So... does anyone else get the impression season 3 was a giant middle finger to Disney? Like a whole "Oh, you want to cancel TOH? Fuck you. We are going to give you an ending so bad people are gonna shit on it forever."

While TOH always had an issues in the writing department there's just something about Season 3 that's particularly awful and kind of malicious tbh. Season 3 doesn't feel like there was any care put into it.

So... while I do like Thanks to Them because Hunter/Luz bonding and Caleb/Evelyn=Luz/Hunter tidbits... it's actually really, really bad. There is no logical explanation for why the characters are fucking around for literal months. Philip should know where titan blood can be found as he had SOMEWAY to get to TBI's. He also knew of Calebs and Evelyns relationship - thats why he even went to TBI's to begin with. He wanted to look for Caleb and convince him to come back to the human world. Philip met Evelyn when he and Caleb were teenagers and he was PROBABLY friends with her before he decided to double down on the witch hate.

Another thing: Flapjack did not need to keep quiet about there possibly being a rebus in the house and the existence of rebuses in general FOR MONTHS. He could have said the moment they came to the human realm something like:

"Hey so, Caleb and Philip were friends with a witch named Evelyn for years. There's titan blood hidden around Gravesfield. I know the landscape has changed over the centuries but you can probably find a vial somewhere by using glyphs near the location shown on the rebus. Caleb and Evelyn made maps to titan blood in the form of rebuses because they needed to keep their relationship a secret. This dilapidated house you guys arrived in when you came to the human realm is Calebs house because the doorways fixed location in the human realm is Caleb's house. There's probably a rebus somewhere in the house. If there are no rebuses in the house, I can show you the last known locations of other rebuses."

Because nobody does anything proactive to find a way home UNTIL Amity accidentally steps in the hole in the floor FLAPJACK made while looking for the rebus. Not only did Flapjack not bother to tell Hunter about there being a rebus that leads to titan blood in the house they fixed up and have been using as a base of operations for literal months - none of the characters ever thought to look around the town for some clues that could lead them back to the demon realm. All the characters try to do is build doorways. VEE could have mentioned there was a witch who came to Gravesfield centuries ago, which would have kickstarted their journey around town. Vee knows about the story because of Yesterdays Lie - and they fucking mention Vee's confrontation with Jacob and show us Jacob in Thanks to Them. THERES LITERALLY a whole museum full of rebuses that were dug up around Gravesfield the characters could have gone to. You cant tell me Gus, Amity, Willow and Hunter were too afraid to explore the demon realm as if they weren't literally living in the human realm for months and went on trips during their stay. As if they weren't gungho about exploring the human realm right after finding the rebus. AS IT they didnt have Vee as a reliable guide around town.

There's also no reason for Luz to go back to school when she has to find a way to get everyone back home. Luz going to school is another time waster with no reason to exist.

On top of that Flapjack doesn't tell Hunter a damn thing about Caleb. We dont even get a "Flapjack finds it difficult to talk about Caleb" moment to explain Flapjacks silence. We dont know WHY Flapjack doesnt say anything about Caleb even though Flapjack clearly belonged to Caleb and not Evelyn. He just lets Hunter read these history books about Caleb which might not even be completely accurate because history can be omitted and changed to fit certain narratives. And the stories about The Wittebane brothers and Evelyn are proven to be incorrect because they paint Evelyn as a stereotype AND as the person who killed Caleb.

But yeah, Thanks to Them is alot less enjoyable when you realize ALL of the characters are wasting time for no reason.

Someone needs to talk about this and I’m bored again so I’m ready to be cancelled for this.

To begin, as always, I’ll give you some background information.

During the season 1 hiatus of the owl house, Dana Terrace introduced the beta designs of Amity, Luz, and Willow

They were supposedly 16 and you can already tell by this piece of art alone, the characters were intended to be MUCH different.

The fandom being derived of any canon owl House content, made an entire separate show (idk how else to describe it) with the betas, making the three character 20x tougher then their canon counterpart. Now when it was happening, no one said a word and now all of a sudden that’s changed. Here are the three arguments of why the betas are bad and why I disagree

-Gus isnt in it… that’s kinda racist

-Luz is a stereotypical Latina… kinda racist pt 2

-Sexualizing minors

The first argument is the easiest because the betas were made before Dana knew she was working with Disney, and Gus wasn’t added until she signed with them. I mean, Gus was literally made for his VA. Just because there isn’t a black character in a single piece of art, doesn’t make Dana Terrace racist. Especially since there is also an Asian and Latina character on their (not saying she couldn’t be racist to black People, but she’s really not and you get my point)

Second argument is gonna be one of the harder ones but let’s be honest here, just because Luz is Latina, doesn’t mean making her a bad ass is a racist stereotype. Sure it’s a stereotype, but it’s not like they made her specifically that way. Amity and Willow were changed as well. It was just a coincidence! The world has to face the fact that not everything is racist (I made sure to discuss this with multiple friends of mine of different backgrounds to make sure this was okay!!!)

And third argument is probably whats gonna get me cancelled but whatever. The line for sexualizing minors is bogus. Not only do I know 16 year olds having sex, PLENTY of kids younger than them do it to. So why is it so bad if someone draws a picture of 16 year olds kissing? I understand when it goes too far, but talking about them doing it shouldn’t be frowned upon when it’s a common thing. NOT TO MENTION when I was in the miraculous fandom, almost every single piece of fan fiction included smut between adrienette… 14 year olds. I never found one comment about people sexualizing them, but I find a tiktok of Luz hyping up Amity by saying she has a big butt and all of a sudden everyone’s like “aren’t they 14 🤨”. Kids in middle school say shit like that ALL the time. Why is this any different? I’m not saying sexualizing minors is okay, but the betas shouldn’t be so easily shot down because they’re 16 and making out with each other. Tbh this kinda stuff is different with different ages so you can never really be sure, but people need to have a little more of an open mind.

That’s my opinion and I know I’m probably gonna get some disagreements but whatever. It’s the internet lmao

I just wish the betas weren’t so hated for stupid reasons because they really are amazing

Edit: so it turns out that the betas are actually supposed to be in late high school, early college so they’re about 18. Thanks for telling me @wisconsin2002

SEASON 2 OF THE OWL HOUSE!!!

Onto business first and foremost! We get twenty-one episodes, an extra one to make up for the rather odd, nineteen-count from the first season! That’s forty episodes in total! Then Season 3…

OH, Season 3… I love it but it hurts! The Lord giveth and taketh away, it’s confirmed, but it’s only THREE 44-minute specials! By my calculations, that’s about the length of SIX normal episodes… THE OWL HOUSE IS SO DANG POPULAR AND THIS IS WHAT YOU DO DISNEY?!?!! First Amphibia’s finale gets screwed over, THEN this?! But at least Amphibia gets its full third season… At least I assumeit does, oh for the love of Titan if it doesn’t…

It is extremely imperative that we petition Disney to let TOH’s third season be full-length! Because Dana herself admitted that the main reason she left Twitter was to cope with THAT news, and… OH MY GOD POOR DANA you fought SO hard against all odds to give us this show, this previous love-child of your mind and heart and spite, for this!? But it might not be too late- If we assault Disney with our demand, they MIGHT just change their mind! SO GET ON WITH IT! Let the cartoon community rally AGAIN!

But, right-

The first half of episodes for Season 2 is going to be TEN episodes, the second half will be eleven! Already better than the first season, but as a reminder, that’s what we’re getting so far before our mid-season hiatus! And on THAT note…

We have confirmation for the first FIVE episodes, which will begin airing just a mere FOUR WEEKS from now! We have Separate Tides, Escaping Expulsion, Echoes of the Past, Keeping Up A-fear-ances, and Through the Looking Glass Ruins!

These episode titles spell out “SEEK T”, presumably “Seek t(he)”, so we can already guess the next two episodes after TtLGR! That leaves fourteen more letters for the Season 2 message; The last one was “A witch loses a true way,” so perhaps this season is advising Luz to seek something that will help her get back home? Something that will help her confront and defeat Belos? A little bit of both?

Separate Tides is the season premiere! Luz is feeling guilty about the loss of Eda’s powers, poor girl, so she’s going to set sail for a lucrative bounty? Interesting… Perhaps a real Bloom of Eternal Youth? Something magical and bile-related? More lore on the nature of magic and its origins???

Escaping Expulsion… hoo boy, THAT’s what we’ve all been looking forward to! Odalia and Alador get Luz, Willow, and Gus expelled?! No rights for them, even if that was already obvious but WOW. But more importantly, Luz strikes a deal with the two?!? What do Odalia and Alador want from Luz, to get her back into Hexside?!?!

Dana mentioned how Season 1 had more focus on Hexside at Disney’s request. Given how Season 2 is more her style and freedom, we might see Luz and the others remain expelled from Hexside, if only to detach them from the coven system for the time being as their rebellion grows… And give focus to OTHER things as well! Which is going to suck a LOT and I’m going to hate Odie and Al even more for this, taking away not just Luz’s opportunity but also Willow and Gus’… Especially Willow since they DID follow through on that threat, holy shit, Amity and Willow must be hurt and traumatized from this!

But what do Odalia and Alador want from Luz? Do they want to use her as leverage against Belos? To use her FOR Belos? I’m suddenly reminded of that idea I had about Odalia and Alador being interested in Luz as like, an actual suitor for Amity… GOD my Lumity heart would actually love it if that were the case! Obviously in the long run it’s bad and for THEIR purposes, but the idea of Luz learning to be more proper for them, for AMITY really… Oh man, this is reminding me of my speculation of Luz and Alador parallels! We might just see what makes Alador so interesting to Dana in this episode, and just the SECOND one of Season 2, no less- Right into the story meat!

ECHOES OF THE PAST! King lore! KING LORE!!! Even better Luz, Lilith, and… HOOTY… go to a new island?! An island related to King’s past? Is Eda sticking with King to make sure he doesn’t do anything, or god, did King’s antics get her into trouble again? And Hooty… HOOTY is coming with Luz and Lilith???! I’m grateful for Luz and Lilith interaction, we might get to see them talk things over, but how is Hooty…? Is the house coming along?

Dana mentioned two spoilers and a lie, one of them was Hooty leaving the house! I guess this is one of them… The others were Camila beating someone up and Gus getting a growth spurt, which we’ll get onto later; So I think Camila beating someone up is the lie! Dang it… But a dangerous new island, could this be related to the various pieces of Titan bones mentioned in The Unauthorized History of the Boiling Isles, scattered throughout the boiling seas, all alluding to another incomplete Titan?!

Are they KING’S REMAINS??! And his bones are incomplete because he still has his SKULL!!!!

Keeping Up A-fear-ances is pretty obviously Gwendolyn. Screw you, Gwen, and the confirmation that her presence is causing strain for everyone… YIKES. Hopefully we’ll get Young Eda and Lilith backstory, and see how they transitioned from the YBOS flashback to present-day! Perhaps Gwendolyn DID help Eda when she first transformed… Either way, I do not like her. But she’ll be fascinating to see!

Through the Looking Glass Ruins! As I said before, Gus gets a growth spurt, and he’s trying to impress kids from Glandus… Which YES GLANDUS, more schools lore! But uhh… If they’re at Glandus, is it because they didn’t get back into Hexside after all, and they’re moving to a different school? Luz and Amity are exploring a dangerous library there, which, Lost in Language flashbacks! But why is AMITY there… Oh Titan, does SHE choose to leave Hexside at the end of Escaping Expulsion, as a means of defying her parents’ will, to go with the friends she loves! If so… YEAH AMITY! That, or she’s out on a visit. Will Amity run from home and live with the others, or maybe Willow and her dads? Gus and Perry? Or will she still be at the Blight Manor… Dana wasn’t kidding about Emira and Edric being distracted from Grom!

Maybe Amity works something out that gets her expelled from Hexside, and Glandus is the new school for her, who knows? Perhaps it’s because of Belos, and so Odalia and Alador are furious, but they want their kid at a school regardless, so Glandus it is! The Hexside Banshees lost their best captain… Not that she was even playing so it doesn’t matter, but still! THIS would be quite a shock and change for Amity! And Luz, Willow, and Gus… Dang, they’re just losing a lot huh?

If they ARE going to Glandus and enrolling there, then maybe the episode will end in a failure, or maybe they’re pretending to in order to access the library, maybe a library incident will get their enrollment cancelled! I’m interested in seeing Glandus’ location, we know it’s on an island elsewhere… I kind of want to see the principal of Glandus, will they be cool like Bump? Have a rivalry with him??? Hexside lore??? FORBIDDEN SHIP BETWEEN BUMP AND GLANDUS PRINCIPAL??!?!

But yeah, those are the episode synopses, and they promise a LOT! It seems each episode so far is just pure character or plot stuff… Not to dunk on ‘filler’, which I think is misused for a lot of episodes honestly, but I like it! I guess Dana and crew have to make the most of their time thanks to Disney’s weird thing with Season 3, screw you Mickey… But yeah! I’m definitely gonna say more stuff and talk about the intro, but for now, I AM HYPED!!!

Let's go with Z because i feel like i know what you think of many of the others and because who doesn't want to ramble about fandom!

As for the fandom, well choose whatever you want but if you have trouble deciding, i would love to hear your thoughts on TOH

Z - Oh, where do I start? First off I just need this show to start again already because this mid-season hiatus feels like forever.

Second, I don't buy the crap that this reason this show was cancelled was because of "branding". Disney and Disney Plus has no problem hosting warped, weird and macabre children/family shows and movies on their platform. My theory is they didn't know just how hard Dana was going to swing with her LGBT rep, not just by having Lumity become canon so quick but also Raine and Willow's dads etc. They were probably expecting their usual "groundbreaking" queer rep that can be easily edited out for other countries. You can't really do that with TOH.

And I am sad because, as much as I'm loving S2, I am already feeling how the pacing of this show will suffer with being rushed to finish when Dana had a much bigger plan. I doubt there's gonna be space now for example Willow, who I love but gets sidelined too much, to have her own focused episode while characters like Hunter - who I also like - feel like his arc is going quick in just the few episodes he's appeared in. Much like Michael, I'd have loved to see more of this cocky little shit side that was in the first episode who just appears briefly as a minor antagonist before he gets woobified and sympathetic (and I love that shit but I like it done well paced).

I just hate that Disney have their claws in this because I feel like it's less likely they would ever let another, more liberal network take it to let Dana play it out as intended. Maybe with enough fan demand we'll get a revival or something but I guess it's still early days and how this season ends will be a big indicator on how things will go.

But I just love it so much! I never got massively invested in shows like Gravity Falls or Steven Universe or even Avatar - as much as I did watch and enjoy them. TOH is the first which has made me feel like a kid reading Harry Potter again and wanting to live in this world but with the bonus of such an amazing cast of characters (sorry I was never in love with the HP cast, just the world itself). Luz is so underrated and yet she's the most fun and inspiring fantasy protagonist ever. Eda is such a milf, King is adorable and Hooty is a riot. I love Lumity to bits but it is that core found family that are the heart of the show for me.

You’re lucky “Pair of Kings” exists, “So Random!”, because it’s the only reason you’re not the worst one yet!

“So Random!” is what happens when All That, The Amanda Show and SNL have a baby who is babysat by TV Executives who were asked to write down stuff teenagers do/like and add the first random thing that comes to their mind, and then a sketch was written around this one “funny” joke and we were all force fed it.

...It sucks.

This review is also gonna be hard, since this is very different than the usual Disney Sitcom. In fact, it barely counts, but I let it slide. This is a spinoff of sorts of Sonny With A Chance, without Sonny (Demi Lovato), in which we see the “hilarious” sketches from the show she was in. Hard to see how it became popular. This is a sketch show, if you can call it that, and it blows. Let’s just get this over with.

In a sketch show, it’s hard to rate characters and story (though somehow I will try). After all, the whole point of a sketch show is to make us laugh, point out the absurdities in our life, maybe have a musical guest star, that sort of thing. In other words, in order to properly review this show, I must abandon my usual focus on meaning and character arcs and let the jokes dictate my opinion.

...The jokes suck balls tho.

All in all, we have 6 sketches (5 regular ones and an intro “bit” if you can even call it that), and each one is so average bottom of the barrel teen humor, that it makes the episodes ICarly made in universe look witty and sharp. There is nothing wrong with just being funny for funny’s sake, but this can’t even do that. There are youtubers with the budget of a potato chip post 2020 stock market crash who can make funnier things! But instead of just talking about how bad the comedy is, perhaps it’s best I literally just tell you what happens in each “bit”, just so you understand how banal this all is:

1. Wheel of Fortune, but it’s with Fred (the youtube star from back in the day), Taylor Swift and Willow Smith (Will Smith’s daughter). Fred is Fred, Taylor Swift sings about everything that happens to her literally, and Willow Smith repeats everything and whips her hair around.

2. The actors come out to say that there are changes (a pretty gross way to joke about Demi Lovato leaving due to the problems in her life) and a sketch is cut and then joked about once in what can be described as a joke? maybe?

3. Ninja’s don’t stop robber because they are too busy putting safety gear.

4. A literal cannibal Zombie keeps eating people, and a student uses that to his advantage to get a girl free to ask her out.

5. A kid has a lot of excuses and says “You won’t believe this but” 1 million times.

6. A girl gets all tantrumy about something stupid.

That’s it. That’s the only joke in each one. Here and there, there is a whiff of a different kind of joke, but basically each sketch has one joke, and it is repeated ad nauseum over and over and over again, in the illusion of randomness. Only here’s the thing: There is nothing random about easy celebrity jokes any moron on the internet can make, intros, safety gear, zombies, excuses that anyone with a bad joke book could have come up with and a girl getting a tantrum. For a show called So Random, you know what’s gonna happen every single time.

And that’s not funny.

CHARACTERS: 0 Out of 5

This is a sketch show, so unless I count the actors (whom have zero personality), I can’t really rate these characters, can I?

Oh wait, I can, the sketch characters, you know, the backbone of the show?

Yeah, well, they all suck. As stated before, they are all ONE joke. A zombie eats people. That’s... That’s not funny, in fact, it’s kind of disturbing. A ninja team keeps stopping for more safety gear. That’s the joke. A kid has the worst excuses. That’s so fodder you don’t see it in their own sitcoms anymore.

But that’s the joke. That’s the only joke. Even worse is that these characters aren’t just one note, they are so boring. Again, when all they are are jokes, and when we all know what the joke is the second they enter the scene, and there is only one joke, then all interest is lost. This is so by the numbers I probably could have written it in my sleep. But I’m not getting paid heaps of money to come up with ranbdom stuff, right?

No wonder this got cancelled after a season.

STORY AND HEART: 1 Out of 5

Instead of repeating myself yet again like this show does all the time, I think it’s best if I just address the one positive point I gave this show to save it from total 0. Cody Simpson’s song was kinda catchy. That’s it.

...This show sucks. I honestly have not much to say. What can you say about bad comedy? If something isn’t funny, it isn’t funny. Avoid this.

You wanna know how much I hated this? If it weren’t for Pair of Kings, this would be dead last.

...God I have 24 more of these.

Next time we have Liv and Maddie, a show I actually am interested in watching (mostly because I was sure they were played by 2 actresses not one, and that Maddie actually looks like a well written 3 dimensional character, so yeah, I’m excited!)
