Because if so, I will just say that I am very excited to have selected Charlie as my fancast for Théodred of Rohan! (Excited because I hope to start writing chapters of my Eomer x OC fic soon, which actually co-stars dear Théodred.)

CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE WAY WE TALK ABOUT THE MEMBERS OF MCR???

A-FUCKING-TTENTION. I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS SOMETHING.

as my followers may know i am a giant mcr stan. i love their music. i think most of the band are good people. however, something came to my attention.

i haven't made it a secret that i am NOT a fan of Lindsey Way, Gerard's wife, who is a racist, pedophile apologist. learning about her being a giant piece of shit made me very sad to acknowledge that if Gerard is willing to not only marry her, but use the reunion tour as also an opportunity to uncancel his dear precious wife or some bullshit, then he's not obviously the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to race and racism in general. the fact that they even endorsed and was a fan of MSI, a "shock humour" band, which used slurs to get attention (which is fucking pathetic by the way), says a lot already. perhaps it speaks to the rock scene's general tolerance for racism at the time in the 2000s, but it wasn't the 1800s. Jimmy Urine was still a white man using the n-word at full volume, and profiting off of it during his concerts and releasing his music.

and maybe shut the fuck up if you're going to call me a "snowflake" about it, because chances are you're white, and you have no fucking clue how dangerous this rhetoric can be towards POC, who have to put up with the normalisation of slur use that the band encourages. i am a POC, and i find the fact that he used that language for money and fame absolutely disgusting. the whole band is disgusting. they can rot in hell.

anyway.

i came across a blog, not going to say which one, but one where it called out Lindsey Way. i was like "ok cool someone else who can use critical thinking in this fandom and doesn't just blindly support Gerard even though he's still definitely not the goddamn messiah". so i go on a scroll through their blog. they were a big fan of Frank, and i respect that, Frank deserves all of his flowers and more.

and then it got weird.

i came across posts where they speculated on the dynamic of the band. and a lot of things were spoken about, where they talked about Gerard being manipulative towards Frank, and how Frank didn't like going on the American leg of the tour during the reunion, and how, basically, they weren't friends, and how Gerard wasn't a good person.

the point is - there was A LOT of speculation. it made me upset to be reading it because i felt as though i'd been punched in the face, reading all this stuff about a guy i look up to partially. i sort of fell into a rabbit hole scrolling through their tumblr, getting more depressed, feeding into the logic that i could never truly feel happy about liking mcr again, reading about all of these theories, and---

THEORIES.

it occurred to me that these were THEORIES. and the way they were demonising certain people, such as putting down Ray in certain posts to make way for Frank, made me realise that there's a problem with this fandom and how people like to assume what happens with the band members' personal life, and how they interact with each other. people like to speculate in this fandom. like, a lot.

i'll assume it's partially due to how most of the band don't shed a lot of light on their personal lives, only really Frank and Mikey are active on social media, usually showing appreciation for their families/or Frank's countless side-projects (which are all great btw, go listen to Parachutes again). so a lot of the fandom turn to speculation, to come up with these theories that "oh there's in-fighting", or "Gerard is secretly an evil genius who manipulates the whole band".

these are real people. Gerard isn't a saint, despite what some people may believe (cough, girlgerard, cough), but what we don't have to do is start making up bullshit about them being a certain way with no evidence. it's all speculation. and it's demeaning, not only to Frank and Gerard, who've probably had enough with the rumours about them over the years, but for Mikey and Ray as well.

these people aren't your friends. they're not some mystical beings shrouded in darkness that you have to find everything out about either. they are people in a band.

going too deep into speculation robs them of their autonomy. it makes everyone in the fandom look like creeps as well. it's horrible to see, and it takes away the real importance of critical thinking.

you can think critically about Gerard for marrying and excusing a racist woman, because there is EVIDENCE of her being racist. there is EVIDENCE of her being a pedophile apologist. that brings up questions about his own views on race, and how much he's willing to excuse, if he could love someone who willingly takes part in racism.

you can't do the same for Frank and Gerard's relationship. we know JACKSHIT about that. they have never said anything negative pertaining to each other in interviews, whatever "beef" people have made up between them is entirely manufactured by the fandom's overactive imagination. it's like a dead-dove fanfic on AO3 for fuck's sake, where Gerard is tagged as an asshole.

i'm aware it is only a small proportion of people who do this. but the extent to which they do it is honestly shocking. so i got pissed off.

we don't need to know everything about what happens with the band members. Frank has LS Dunes. Mikey has his family. who the fuck knows what Ray and Gerard are doing.

(now, no one's complaining about the lack of Ray on social media, but when people see a picture of Gerard's hand they flip out and beg for a face reveal - but no one's ready for that convo...)

point is: let them be. work with what you get. there's no need to make up things to make it all interesting, to create conflict - you've got that with the heavily problematic connection to MSI. evidence is key. you do not need to analyse these people like they're fictional characters.

because they are PEOPLE. and people are neither completely good or bad, they are usually in the grey area.

Scott conspired with Gerard Argent behind everyone’s back, told Gerard that Matt was the Kanima’s master (thus selling Matt and Jackson out to Gerard), and then tried – but failed – to murder Gerard using Derek’s body against his will. And Derek was never allowed to hold Scott accountable by Jeff Davis; just like Isaac was never allowed to react when Scott acted like a jealous asshole and repeatedly hit him because Isaac liked Allison, his ex girlfriend. Not to mention that Scott had zero problem working with Deucalion (who murdered Boyd, Erica and a shit tons of other people for power) to kill Josh and Tracy, just because it benefitted him. So Scott acting all morally superior and victim blaming Stiles for killing Donovan – a murderous wendigo who assaulted and actively tried to eat Stiles alive – in self defense is hypocrisy 101 and only proves Scott’s double standards. Not to mention that Stiles was the victim of Donovan’s brutal assault and of Theo’s blackmail: he’s not obligated to share his own traumas with Scott like Scott wanted and demanded. So Stiles choosing not to tell Scott about Donovan is both understandable and worthy of empathy. 

Just because Scott is a “true alpha”  it doesn’t mean that his friends have to obey him or let him condemn them for something they didn’t even do and that was not their fault. Scott chose to think Stiles was a cold blooded monster and serial killer based on his own prejudice and on Theo’s words alone; Scott fell for Theo’s cheap lies since the very beginning and let Theo fool him; Theo played Scott like a kazoo; Scott flat out lied to Kira’s face about her fox spirit. That’s Scott’s fault, not Stiles’ nor anyone else’s. Scott’s own actions and words proved Stiles and Theo right in the end, that’s why he had to beg his friends to give him another chance (even though Jeff Davis didn’t make Scott work all that hard to get them back to be honest. He just made them accept Scott back because Scott needs them.) 

Teen Wolf is an ensemble show. Stiles, Lydia, Allison, Derek and Kira are all lead and main characters in the series – Season 3B is entirely focused on Stiles and Void Stiles with Dylan O'Brien at its front and center, and it’s the highest rated and most critically acclaimed season of Teen Wolf. Their feelings and traumas are just as important as Scott’s. But some people (aka rabid Scott stans & apologists) keep acting like they aren’t and as if Scott’s butthurt is the only thing that matters for some reason – stooping as low as to blame other characters (mostly Stiles and Derek, the characters Scott/Posey stans have an obsessive hate boner for) for Scott’s own canon failures and shitty behaviour

In response to the above submission sent to me: You could’ve just messaged me. This submission feels as if you’re (… for lack of a better word) attacking me for already being on your side with the fact that due to the writing Scott is painted as if he’s got the highest moral point. I have at no point ever said that Scott was completely infallible because of his “True Alpha” status. I have however said that a lot of his trauma gets dismissed often and I think it’s something that should be spoken about. Scott can be both True Alpha and have Trauma that needs to be discussed.

If you’d like to speak about Scott and the bad writing of the show and how that way trauma, justice/injustice and morality is handled in the show, I am open to the discussion. 1/2 I noticed that the Scott McCall in most Scott stans' fanfics doesn't have any resemblance to the Scott McCall of the show, and he is characterized more closely to canon Stiles than he is to canon Scott. Fanon Scott is basically given all of Stiles', Kira's, Lydia's, Liam's and Derek's character traits, qualities, their traumas, their personality their innate talents, their arc, their empathy, their heroism, their relationship with the other characters, and their role in the story.

2/2 Now, I dislike Scott McCall and think he's the worst character in television history (he and Tyler Posey's shitty acting are the reason I dropped Teen Wolf after Season 3B.) But IF I were his fan, I'd be annoyed as hell by how rare it is to find fics where Scott is actually in character as he was written in canon. And this only proves that no one hates Scott McCall more than his stans

Lol, you basically just said it all. And I think this has been pointed numerous times before in other posts—now, I don't read SM centric fics, but even in the fics he's portrayed as "good" and everything else we were told SM was supposed to be, but wasn't in the show. In short, the canon personality of SM is erased and in its place comes the "puppy" personality, OR he's not in the fics at all. (I'm talking about the fics I read, which are sterek centric, mostly).

Canon!Scott is... complex? Idk how to explain but. I think I really could have tried to like him as a character if he were to ever apologize for his actions, or if anything post S1 hadn't happened. Because, see, in S1 he's just a dumb teenager making dumb choices because he's in love and/or is actually stupid (because we all know scott's the bumbling idiot who becomes important later character, or at least that's how i saw his character). In S2, he's trying to save his "friends" aka Jackson and Lydia, because he doesn't know who the Kanima is but Derek is sure it's one of them. That was fine too. Derek is seeing the bigger picture (wanting to save the lives of those who the Kanima could kill) while Scott is not (he's hell bent on saving his friends. only his friends). But then comes the S2 finale—and even before that, the unnecessary double-cross that we all were supposed to hold in the "OH WOW WHAT A CLEVER TWIST" category. That was not clever, that was fucking stupid. Like, Kate literally burned down eleven people alive, and Gerard is here for revenge. You don't give benefit of the doubt to such people. And he didn't. But the thing is, if he could have conspired against Gerard with Deaton, he could have told Derek, too. And if his hatred was getting in the way, then the least he could have done was feel guilty while he manipulated Derek into trusting him. But he didn't. No, he was getting off on it, the power of making someone trust him while knowing full well he isn't trustworthy for that person (aka Derek).

Ugh. That was the turning point for me. Especially, especially when afterwards, Scott acted all high and fucking mighty and didn't apologize. And the writers made Derek forgive him.

Just. Ugh.

I don't even like thinking about him now. Like, anon, I love that you feel comfortable enough to send me your opinions, but I've recently decided to purge the things that make me feel... so angry and sad all at once. Because there genuinely was potential in SM's character, but the squashed it. And now I hate Scott irrevocably. So, dear anon, please refrain from sending Scott related things to me from now? What’s your review of the new season?

WARNING!!! this post contains spoilers, swear words and a painful amount of My Opinions and love for klaus

gonna start with - i didn’t expect much from this season, i don’t know why, but the promo and the leaked scenes and the OPENING SCENE were just too good, so i thought that they were the only good scenes in the entire season. and :) well :) 

don’t get me wrong, i don’t say that the season is a complete trash - or well - it’s just. nothing makes sense from ep 1 to ep 10, and the episodes seemed oddly short, scenes missing and out of order. and yes, im gonna blame it on a fucking pandemic, just because i dont want to be an asshole who simply doesn’t like anything. 

dear anon, i don’t know who’s your favorite sibling - also feel free to tell me and we’ll talk about them too - but i started watching the show because of gerard way last year and stayed in the fandom for klaus. pretty cliche, but i like him, i like robert sheehan, ((fun fact: my AC keeps turning “sheehan” to “banshee”)) so this post might be actually a “some random klaus’ stan COMPLAINING about lack of klaus content in s2″ kind of shit, and im sorry in advance. you don’t even have to read this.

so, when i finished watching, i was like “what the hell?” :) because i felt like klaus was some fort of a furniture in this season BUT there were also some good things? iconic lines? i like some of them like “are we burning or burying” is just THE BEST line in the entire season for me. for. me. also describes quite accurately my first impression. they didn’t let him use his powers; they turned the possession thing to just another trauma and tried to play it off as a joke; he really felt like the one with the brain cells, but they intentionally tried to dumb him down. unpopular opinion probably, but i liked the SASS in the diner scene “pink can be masculine” and that was one of the few scenes that felt in-character for me. i dont know how i feel about young dave, but at the moment i dont feel anything, again, im sorry, but the writers tried to ruin his arc OR they made him a martyr so he wouldn’t get fandom hate for starting a cult. i don’t know. that’s just one of My Thoughts because Head Full. 

things that i liked: his bonding with allison (and he took her away from the riot! he helped raymond out of jail! with the poltergeist thing) although  I CANNOT SEE THE FAKE LEVITATION MOMENT and... wigs... fucking bury them. burn them. they will be chasing me in the nightmares! i liked klaus calling ben out and comparing him to dad, because that was fair. rude, but a “super. morbid.” guy was meant to be rude, yeah? 

i just wanna say, they could do more with him, but if the writers plan to leave him just as some comic relief even after ben died *for real*, the show’s gonna go the misfits scenario (you probably know what i mean). rob is a great actor even in the cringiest scenes, and i respect him for that. i respect him for saying that klaus is “fucked in the head” although the show was kind enough not to show all of his “crazy” (?) moments. i wouldn’t call him fucked, just unhappy, and with people blaming him all the time for the things he physically can’t handle/control. 

ALSO i wonder how they’re gonna treat his character in s3 because COME ON HE DOESN’T HAVE ANY MORE POWERS TO GIVE THEM TO OTHER CHARACTERS WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO NOW BITCHES, since he lost the *last* person he was pretty close with. also, ben :) saved :) the world :) again, don’t get me WRONG, i love ben, but he could’ve been acting nicer with the ONLY guy who can make him corporeal?? they saved the world together, i can say. just because it was klaus’ power in the first place. a funny little detail. 

i need to rewatch it to see a whole picture.

okay, so even before the show came out, I understand Ben was a favorite amongst some people in the fandom? I was wondering why/how he was people's fave since he was like. barely in the comic (unfortunately :( ). was it just cause he was dead??

Mod Moe: I will explain why I personally liked Ben and why he’s been my favorite character (in general, ever, not just in TUA) for the past decade! I might get sappy so watch out because he genuinely means a lot to me. (Also, if you want a fairly comprehensive write up of Ben’s incredibly minimal involvement in the comics so far, I have a post HERE on my main blog!)

so here from a comic fan and Ben stan, here are some reasons why Ben was a fan favorite even when all we had was two (2) flashbacks where he spoke two (2) times!

From what we’ve seen of comic Ben, have have no reason to believe he was anything other than a HUGE ADORABLE SWEETHEART. As a child he was cheerful and loved ice cream, and we see him and Klaus team up a lot. When he’s an adult, we see him show genuine concern for his sibling’s safety and play with stuffed animals. See above image. It’s adorable. We also know that as an adult, he was the only sibling who still called Hargreeves “dad” which is also adorable in a very sad way.

Building more onto the sweetheart front, we have supplementary material from the comics, like excerpts from Hargreeve’s notes, Pogo’s journal, and Vanya’s book! Here’s what they wrote about Ben. Hargreeves: “Easily manipulated due to enthusiastic if naive nature. Must learn to suppress my nausea in order to study further.” Pogo: “None of the children wanted to be heroes, least of all 00.06.” Vanya: “[Ben was] the kindest of my siblings, but he was so eager to please Father. He was easily manipulated, drawn into Father and Luther’s little games. And those two simply let him die.”

All of that sweetness and innocence and naivety wrapped up in a body so grotesque even the villains find him disgusting? That he goes by the moniker “Horror”? A total angel whose superhero ability is that his body is a portal through which unimaginable monsters untwine??? THAT BILLOWING, GOTHIC CAPE??? TENTACLES??? Not to mention Ben is BEEFY in the comics, he’s the tallest and most built besides Luther. The juxtaposition of such an outwardly intimidating person being so naive and kind was EXTREMELY endearing. (And this is something I see reflected in TV Ben that I like- this gloomy little emo seeing the best in everyone, even if he has no reason to.)

It’s sappy time! Like a lot of comic fans, I started reading TUA when I was a young teen. Like many teens who like Gerard Way, I was going through some shit! Suffice to say there was something that really resonated with me about seeing a character who was so monstrous and scary, but still a genuinely sweet person inside despite being treated like a monster and having such a shitty childhood. And then compounding that with how the entire main cast, his family, seemed to have completely forgotten him? That hurt in a really compelling way. So Ben ended up meaning a lot to me. Also, I always liked side characters best anyway!
