SM LGBTQ+ Week 2024!
The third annual Sailor Moon LGBTQ+ Week takes place the week of June 16-22, 2024 (during Pride Month).
You may post your works on Tumblr, AO3, Deviantart, or anywhere you choose so as long as you link them in your Tumblr posts if they are off-site. All ratings are allowed, so long as NSFW work is properly tagged. You can add your AO3 works on our designated category for the event here: smlgbtqweek2024. We also have a Twitter for the event you can tag and we will retweet your works there too!
Submissions should have an LGBTQ+ character, ship or topic at their core along with the daily theme. It doesn't have to focus on or even include a ship, given this week also celebrates asexuality and trans identities! M/F pairings are allowed as long as one of the characters is LGBTQ+ and the work references their queerness. Bi/Pan people in m/f relationships are still queer and valid. This also applies to trans people in m/f relationships. Basically, as long as you're writing/ drawing/creating something featuring LGBTQ+ character(s), you're golden.
Don’t forget to tag us at @smlgbtqweek and use the hashtag #smlgbtqweek24 so we can reblog your work! **If you post something and don't see it reblogged, it's probably because we overlooked it or Tumblr didn't show it to us. Contact us and we will fix that right away!**
The prompt list is as follows:
Sunday, June 16, Day 1- Home/Travel
Monday, June 17, Day 2- Wine/Candy
Tuesday, June 18, Day 3- Heart/Edge
Wednesday, June 19, Day 4- Twist/Tangle
Thursday, June 20, Day 5- Fashion/Pattern
Friday, June 21, Day 6- Mountain/Tree
Saturday, June 22, Day 7- Free
Here's a handy graphic version, too!
Tumblr media
We know the prompt list is exciting, but please wait to post your entries until the actual day assigned in the prompt!
Have fun!

Gellygirl is Spreading Misinformation
https://www.deviantart.com/comments/4/80757935/5070403795
https://archive.ph/0VVxD
Welp, since my hand has been forced, I think it’s time I shed a little light on your lies, Gellygirl:
1.) “They started attacking Club because he spreads disability awareness, proving them to be ablelist. “
First of all, Club is a well known spammer when it comes to his ‘role plays’. Before before people like you, Tam, and Resanagi came along and started to defend him, he would spam the same message over and over again in chat, notes, and the comments of people deviations, which is why many users (especially younger ones) felt pressured by him.
His ‘role plays’ are doing more harm than good. It is NOT Club’s job, nor is is he even qualified to teach other people, ESPECIALLY young minors about changing diapers of disabled people. Club does NOT have a degree in nursing or any medical field, and that much is apparent by his spamming of tips from online sources that are either outdated or applies to a small percentage of people with disabilities.
Not to mention that his Eduard character is 9 years old and uses baby talk. If you knew even the bit slightest thing about people with disabilities, many of them HATE baby talk, as it is seen as talking down to them, degrading them, and seeing them less than others. Honestly, would you want a grown adult 20+ asking/saying to you a young teenaged woman things such as “Would like a widdle cookie, sweetie pie?” or “Let’s go upsiy daisy, boo boo!” or “Do you have to go potty, honey bear?” ? No, you wouldn’t, because it’s weird and makes you uncomfortable.
So not only is NOT qualified to teach about sensitive subjects such as these, he seeks out minors, and uses baby-talk to degrade the very people he seeks to help. All of this clearly shows that he is grooming others into thinking that this is acceptable behavior, especially minors. If you knew anything, or even cared to do as much research as you do defending Club, you would know that not all grooming is sexual in nature!
Do you recall Tam drawing his teenaged persona KISSING Eduard who is age 9? It was deleted, but you can Tam and look back at his status posts for yourself, as it happened. THAT IS WHAT CLUB’S 'SPECIAL ROLE PLAYS’ HAS CREATED AND WHY HE WAS BANNED!
Club is NOT innocent and only seeks to get praise for wrong doings because people like you defend him and egg him on, when in reality, he’s USING YOU.
Plus, it he’s so innocent, why do comments, journals, and accounts of being victims from multiple users such these exist:
https://www.deviantart.com/giulianathecat/status-update/Club-Dreamiverseexplain-to-me-WHY-THE-959209422
https://www.deviantart.com/comments/4/89242348/5053781610
https://archive.ph/HM4oq
https://archive.is/AdSJO
Honestly, you need to learn what the word ableist means before you go throwing it around, Gellygirl. You sound ignorant ass hell.
And to put the cherry on top, whenever problems arise for POC, black, and LGBTQ+ users and people, Club pushes them aside and then makes everything about him and his Educard character. Sounds like Club is more ableist than people here, and considering many of the people calling him out are either POC, black, part of LGBTQ+ or more, they have more than a right to call him out!
2.) “They called my friend Tam cringe bc they came out as non-binary, proving them to be transphobic.”
You can’t read, Gellygirl. Tam said it himself in is OWN WORDS that he he would ONLY BE COMING OUT as non-binary for PRIDE MONTH ONLY. Is that not an insult to ACTUAL non-binary people and those Pride Month celebrates, because now that it’s July, Tam is no long non-binary. Because you know, choosing a set pronouns like like choosing your outfit and hair style for the day, right?
Tam is being silly, because that’s what kids do, and as the older one between the two of you, YOU should be educating him, not supporting bad behavior. And people speaking out abut this is speaking out, NOT TRANSPHOBIA, DUMMY.
Since you’re too stupid to read, here’s a direct link to Tam’s status: https://www.deviantart.com/tamthelucario448/journal/I-Use-They-Them-Pronouns-For-Pride-Month-965259518
“They also called them cringe for speaking other languages other than English, proving them to be racist.”
Tam is half Vietmnease, right? Then he SHOULD BE  learning the language from his parents, grandparents, and family members, NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE LIKE AN IGNORANT FOOL. This is an insult to his people, and AGAIN, YOU SHOULD BE EDUCATING TAM INSTEAD OF ENCOURAGING THIS BEHAVIOR!
Proof of him confirming this here on his very own status: https://www.deviantart.com/tamthelucario448/journal/Speaking-The-Mother-Tongue-965310906
“This ones pretty dumb: They purposefully misgender someone named Tri when she isn’t even trans, which makes you think how they treat actual trans people.”
Honestly speaking, you are only saying this because you are scared of Tri doxxing and harassing you like she did before. Tri is well known for doxxing, grooming, harassing others who disagree with her and Club, hacking accounts, defending Club’s grooming, and you know it.
Stop spreading lies, Gellygirl and fuck’s sake, LEARN TO FUCKING READ!

Hey guys ! I’m launching some simple icon commissions for pride month ! :D
These are discounted from my normal rates and would directly help me with things like bills and such for the month of June ! :]
If you think you’d be interested but aren’t quite sure - Message me ! We can talk it out and if you’re still unsure by the end that’s ok, I understand and no harsh feelings.
The turnaround on these would only be 1-2 days ! This is volume dependent but I’m going to try my best to stick towards getting them out quick !
some quick guidelines and rules under the cut and Happy Pride :D
Guidelines
- Must include some sort of reference - this can be as simple as a piccrew or doodle, visuals help so much with the process
- I am completely open to drawing characters from media with lgbtq+ headcanons !
- I’ll need the name of the flag for the commission. Name, not just picture. I’m very strict on this as this allows me to research the flag prior to avoid and block people using M/AP flags and so on. Please feel free to include both though! I know there’s many different versions out there.
- That being said: You don’t have to directly have a flag in the commission ! If you just want a simple bust commission unrelated to pride, go ahead, I don’t blame you for doing so while they’re cheaper and quicker !
- The two flag rule is mostly for visibility reasons, when you split an icon into thirds it gets harder to see all 3 flags. As someone with many flags I understand wanting all of them, so we can definitely chat about a best option for you and your identity.
- You’re entitled to one major edit and two minor edits. A major would be a complete sketch redraw, or a full palette shift. A minor would be the changing the hair sketch, or making a color less warm. Chances are though, if you want it changed, I’ll do it.
- You’re also entitled to two different versions of the icon - such as one in warm colors and one in cool colors or one with your gender identity and the other with your sexuality !
- I operate through PayPal, Cashapp, AND Venmo ! If you don’t have any of those, we can find an option. Payment, due to quick turnaround, is prior to starting commission but after discussion of posing, coloring, and of course flags.
- I’ll submit a sketch and after that’s approved, you won’t get an update till after coloring. After thats approved, I’ll send you the full resolution without watermarked icon :]
- The icon is free to use on any platform, but I still retain ownership / copyright of said icon. It cannot be sold on merchandise or any other format, and isn’t distributable. I’d like credit in bios but isn’t necessary, since you did purchase it.
That’s about it !
Thanks for reading, have an amazing day and Pride Month!
Hope to hear from you soon!

So there's this cool AU called @invertedfate by @megaderping, it's honestly amazing and you should check it out if you haven't already.
Apologies, as the grabbed individuals might be a bit blurred. Unfortunately I misclicked and merged an all black layer down onto the layer they were on, obscuring them, by the time I noticed it was so late I crashed the app hitting undo too rapidly, eventually I was able to screenshot the correct image from a playback of my work but it was lower quality.
Anyway, without further ado, here's Flowey enjoying his victory.

The most recent update was outstanding and now I've finally got this drawn I plan to rewatch it since my reference screenshots just don't do it justice.

This whole season the Devil's been adorable but him having a tap dance with Chalice and just having fun with it and then Henchman applauding.
And just in general Henchman's enthusiasm for everything Devil does for fun is just so sweet.
We all need a Henchman.
(Why is the single most relateable character in any work of fiction The Devil?)

Greetings everyone! It's Let Papyrus Say Fuck day once again, let us celebrate!
Tumblr media
And of course, since it's also Pride month, we can count on Papyrus to support LGBTQ+ folks.
Tumblr media
Papyrus is a cool dude and you can be too, if we get the shirt un-discontinued. See @insanelyadd's post for how.

So there's this cool AU called @shifter-au about Papyrus being a shapeshifter that feeds on love and is trying to keep his identity a secret (Flowey knows though).
I had this idea floating around my head for a while and I was gonna pitch it to @leshyleaf before remembering I can actually draw it myself now.
Go check out Leshy's art, they have this sweet cartoony style that looks great in their comic.

I'm such a 🤡
Pride Month is almost over and I wish I would have came up with this idea sooner so I could pan it out instead of shoving it all into one post.
Sigh
All is well however and I'll still do it before the month is over!
So, I wanted to let it be known that I sometimes write queer characters into my stories and I'm too much of a perfectionists to write them wrong. Days or research goes into each character who fits under the lgbtq+ umbrella.
So here I wanna detail some of these characters just to be sure I'm not getting anything wrong (of course I'm straight, so unfortunately there will still be some issues)
Brown and Pink
These two girls literally do not have a name because it's a unfinished story I have no ideas for lol. However, I have the plot "finished" in my head, it's just a matter of writing the story.
But, Brown is a IT major who has the biggest crush on a girl she sees around her campus. Not wanting to freak the girl out, she simply is her friend. However, Brown also has a crush on the creator of a queer webcomic artist. Not only does she love the comic, she loves the personality if the artist as well, so she lives an average college life until Pink calls her one day with a delimma.
Pink is super cute in my head, shes actually just a black uwu girl and I love it. (Btw, they're both black). Pink is also pretty shy and is often to herself, so when she calls Brown, she knows it has to be for something serious.
Pink explains she needs help because someone hacked into her "Webtoon" account and she can't log in anymore. Being bad with technology, she calls the only person she can think to help, which also happens to be the girl she's drawing the comic about. I think you know where this is going.
Mandy
This whole story is a satire, but Mandy is my attempt at a Pansexual. Mandy is brought into the story because she flirts with everyone. The main characters in the story are actually introduced to her when she approaches them at a park wondering if they'd be willing to go on a double date, she doesn't even care who she goes with out of group 1 female and 2 males. However, she's not just pan for no reason.
Her family isn't supportive of her in the slightest--even before she realized she was pan--so she acted out. Did whatever she wanted with whoever she wanted and at some point realized it wasn't just acting out, but apart of who she is. She truly has love for everyone in any form they come in.
This story also has abilities and powers, Mandy has the ability to see what others can't. I have a ghost character in this story and she's able to see him despite him being turning himself invisible, just to give you an example.
Ren
He is a character I often have as the twin brother of my MC Cassie. He's been gay since I can remember (he's a mad old character). His boyfriend originally was a "trap" since as a kid that's usually what I saw in Yaoi and BL, but when I got older, I didn't wanna fall into that stereotype too much and instead made his boyfriend a soft boi.
Ren is also very aggressive to somewhat combat the stereotype that all gay men are feminine and weak. I also added a personality trait that Ren is easily influenced by men, but that's to normalize him as, come on, anyone who's straight reading this, you mean to tell me you're not more swayed by someone you find attractive/your type? Come on, don't lie.
Ren more so acts as a normal sibling to his sister, but he just so happens to be gay.
Mari
Just because I talked about Ren, I have to talk about his boyfriend. As I said, originally he was a trap character, but I felt that was kind of... Gross for lack of a better word that I couldn't write a male character who appeared as a man in a gay relationship. It felt like I had to still write a "straight" relationship masquerading as a gay one.
But Mari is still super adorable. He's meant to be really cute and soft to contrast Ren's aggressive demeanor. He's passive, but can still stand up for himself and he's usually a voice of reason when Ren is being irrational.
Kit
These next two are the couple in an erotica I'm writing. With the first book drafted and the second in the works I can tell you a but about him without spoiling the story.
Kit is a hard working voice actor who's the absolute worst to be around lol. He's made to be very high strung and unbearable, demanding people do more work than they're already doing.
However, he's good at what he does so people still love him. Even when he comes out as gay, his fans still love him and support anything he wants to do. I actually love writing Kit because I get to be unreasonably annoying when I write him haha.
Also, their story was made after I got an idea about making a story with a "cat dude and a dog dude" they're not actually animals, they just have personalities like some. In this case, Kit is a cat personality and actually owns a black cat.
Phelan
Phelan is built to be the total opposite of Kit. He's kind, caring, charming, nice, and sweet. It's actually so healing to write him because he's so nice it almost bleeds into my life.
He's also written to never really take insults. Not because he's dense and can't understand them, but because he just doesn't really care when people insult him. Case and point is his boyfriend, Kit. From belittling to outright insulting, Kit has done and said every bad thing there is to say to Phelan, yet, the golden retriever can't seem to resent the black cat.
Phelan is actually very pursuant and tries his hardest to get into a relationship with Kit because... Well, if you ever read it, you'll find out why~
Side note, I wanna talk about his ethnicity. Because since Kit is meant to be a "cat" he's obviously a dog, specifically he owns like three golden retrievers. However, this made me imagine him as a white/fair skinned male; but when I was self-editing the story, he started coming off as some kind of poc. I'm not sure what group, but he gave me vibes of a poc. An example is that as a voice actor, he was asked by a friend to voice a character and almost everyone at that place is a poc (Black/African-American, Filipino, and Hispanic) so I thought "why would they invite some random white guy?" It just seemed to on the "checking the ethnic diversity box" and I'm sure some would assume I only included a white character because there just had to be one. Man I really wish I had a concept artist just to see what version of him matches more.
Gabe
I made the story he's in around the time I started to learn about trans people. The story's whole plot revolves around three kids coming of age in a ever changing world. Specifically, Cassie's plot is her coming to terms with who she is. Not a shy, introverted young girl but a passionate and determined young woman.
So, I wanted to represent her change in a physical manner and when I was learning about trans issues, I decided to add it as a physical showcase of her development.
Gabe is a trans man who wants to mentor Cassie after seeing some potential in her. While I'm not finished with the story, I do know there's a conversation I was going to put in there where Gabe reveals to Cassie he's trans because he feels she's going through a similar struggle he did as a child. Not feeling like he could properly express himself or identify in the way he felt most comfortable in.
And those are all my most prominent queer characters! I would love to add more, that would require me to learn more so I don't portray harmful stereotypes and can characterize them properly.
But, thank you for reading and I hope you can write well tonight or tomorrow; and...
Happy Pride Month!

The thing is, conservatives aren't technically incorrect when they claim that politicians and corporate media pander to minorities or put in buzz words to try and appeal to the socially progressive. You can definitely see that in, for example, a politician making a statement for Martin Luther King Day, but not doing anything to enact policies to further racial justice. Or, every time Disney hypes up its "first gay character" just to have it be a throwaway line from an unnamed man or a background kiss that's on the screen for under 2 seconds. Or during Pride month when big businesses change their social media logos to rainbow, but don't even have LGBTQ anti-discrimination policies on the book. Corporations and some politicians definitely see minorities and progressives as a population to be marketed towards and not as people to who deserve to have meaningful stories told about them or have rights that need to be protected.
But what conservatives don't seem to get is 1) that not every attempt at diversity and inclusion is superficial, 2) Plenty of leftists/liberals/ progressives will criticize corporations and politicians when their words are empty, and 3) conservatives are absolutely susceptible to the same pandering.
1) I feel like this point is obvious, but satisfying the "woke mob" isn't the only reason to write diverse characters. It's been said before, but sometimes people just exist! Sometimes those people are in the writer's room or director's chair! If the story being told reflects the real world, shouldn't the characters be like some of the people who exist in the real world? Why would all Starfleet captains be white? Why would there only be male jedi? You're telling me that none of the knights of Camelot, a fictional land, could be into eachother romantically?* Come on. Not everyone is a white, cishet male. Sorry to break it to you.
Also, stories can be made more rich and interesting when you have diverse characters and creators! Not that I really love Marvel, but a major reason why the costuming and set design of Black Panther was beautiful was because they drew on different cultures in Africa, as opposed to only the European styles in a lot of movies. We got to see styles and buildings in whole new ways, and it was gorgeous. Another Marvel example, but in Agents of Shield, they wrote a really twisty and interesting storyline that directly drew on an actor's mixed ethnic background (the actor has said in interviews how she used to be told she was 'too Asian' or 'too white' for parts and she finally didn't have to pretend to be one way or the other). Having different kinds of people creating art allows there to be more cultures to draw stories from, more experiences that can be authentically shown, and often just better art.
*From my knowledge, Camelot is based on Wales and gay Welsh people aren't a new phenomenon
2) Go look up critiques of "Rainbow Capitalism." You certainly can find them all over tumblr during June. Go look at people making fun of the FBI for tweeting out stuff in support of MLK Jr. given their outright hate of him during his lifetime. We know it's bull shit.
3) Conservatives get pandered to. Every time a politician invokes "family values", but doesn't support policies to actually better support families. Every time a politician claims to love the military and respect veterans, but supports making cuts to the VA. Look at the sheer number politicians who pose in their ads with hunting rifles! They don't really all hunt regularly. How many times have politicians misquoted the bible? Attempted to appear more religious than they really are to appease a Christian base? Hell, go look at the whole Starbucks coffee cup "controversy" from a few years ago. Did the politicians really think Starbuck's having a plain red cup during December was somehow newsworthy? It wasn't an attempt to drum up anger in a conservative base? If a big store tells everyone "Merry Christmas" but they don't allow all their Christian employees to take off the 24th and 25th, how is that not pandering?
I know I am writing this on Tumblr and so I'm preaching to the choir. The vast majority of people here aren't conservative and I'm pretty sure no conservatives follow me. It just frustrates me like hell when I see conservatives online or in person talking about "pandering to appease the woke mob" and they aren't technically incorrect, but they are so very wrong. I just needed to yell into the void. Because, come on!

The Pride Month We Know & Love
In 1969, the Stonewall Riots occurred. This is considered the beginning of the modern queer rights movement. At the time, it was called the gay rights movement and the word gay, while meaning homosexual, also was an umbrella term that included all of what we now call the queer community.
————————————————————
On November 2, 1969, a group of people proposed the first gay parade be held in New York City, both to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots and to be an annual reminder that we are in a struggle for fundamental human rights. They called on homophile organizations throughout the country to hold demonstrations the same day to show nationwide support.
On June 28, 1970, the Christopher Street Liberation Day marked the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots with a march. Christopher Street is the road in front of the Stonewall Inn and the road participants marched down. The New York Times reported (on the front page) that the marchers took up the entire street for 15 city blocks. Marches were also held in Chicago & Los Angeles while San Francisco held a “gay-in.”
Tumblr media
In 1971, marches took place in Boston, Dallas, Milwaukee, London, Paris, West Berlin, and Stockholm.
By 1972 the participating cities included Atlanta, Brighton, Buffalo, Detroit, Washington D.C., Miami, and Philadelphia, as well as San Francisco.
————————————————————
The first marches were both serious and fun and served to inspire the widening activist movement. There was a dramatic increase in the number of people organizing for queer rights. In 1969, there were 50 to 60 gay groups in the country. In 1970 that increased to at least 1500. In 1972 it was 2500.
Prior to 1969, the organizations called themselves the homophile movement. They focused on showing that gay people are respectable and politely asked for discriminatory policies to be removed. Their marches had dress requirements, age limits as to who could participate, and even the signs held had to be pre-approved.
The Stonewall riots with images of gays retaliating against police changed things and inspired new activists. They considered the movement an uprising and renamed it the gay liberation movement. We are gonna be who we are and live as we want, respectability be damned. Parades and festivals were to specifically to not have dress requirements or age limits.
————————————————————
In Nazi Germany, gay men were prisoners in the concentration camps and their clothes had inverted pink triangles sewn on them to mark them as homosexual men (this also included bisexual men and trans women). This pink triangle was extra large so they could be easily identified from a distance.
After the concentration camps were shut down at the end of World War II and prisoners freed, the gay survivors were not released but locked up in prison. Homosexuality was illegal in Germany. West Germany continued to imprison them until 1994!
Tumblr media
In 1973, Homosexuelle Aktion Westberlin, a German gay liberation group, called for gay men to wear the pink triangle as a memorial to past victims and to protest continuing discrimination. This pink triangle became a symbol of the gay rights movement and many displayed it proudly, but the symbol couldn’t shake its association with the horrors of the Nazis.
Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the U.S., urged artist Gilbert Baker, an openly gay man and a drag queen, to create a new inspiring symbol for the gay community to replace the Nazi symbol.
It’s thought that Baker was at least partially inspired by the Judy Garland song "Over the Rainbow" (Garland being among the first gay icons). He also liked the idea of a flag, as that is a way of being visible. The rainbow flag was unveiled at the 1978 San Francisco Gay Freedom Day parade. After the parade, hot pink was removed from new flags due to fabric unavailability. The murder of Harvey Milk in November 1978 led to a surge of requests for the Rainbow flag, which led to it being adopted by people around the country.
Tumblr media
For the 1979 San Francisco Gay Freedom Day parade, the organizers reduced the number of colors from 7 to 6 so that they could divide it in half and have 3 colors decorating one side of the street, and the other three colors on the other side. This 6-colored rainbow flag became the standard and quickly replaced pink triangles.
Tumblr media
In 2003, a mile-long version of the rainbow flag was made by Baker for the 35th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, this recognized the rainbow flag as THE international symbol for LGBTQ pride, it can be seen all around the world.
On June 26, 2015, the White House was illuminated in the rainbow flag colors to mark the legalization of same-sex marriages across the country.
Tumblr media
In June 2017, the city of Philadelphia adopted a revised version of the flag that adds black and brown stripes to the top of the standard six-colors to draw attention to issues of people of color within the LGBTQ community.
Tumblr media
In June 2018 designer Daniel Quasar released a redesign incorporating elements from both the Philadelphia flag and trans pride flag to bring focus on inclusion and progress within the community.
Tumblr media
————————————————————
But when did it go from Gay Liberation to Pride?
Meetings to organize the first march in New York City began in early January 1970. Brenda Howard, a bisexual activist, is known as the "Mother of Pride" for her work in coordinating the march. She also originated the idea for a week-long series of events around the march.
She wanted to create a number of events to bring in people from out of town and wanted to unite the events under a label. The first idea was 'Gay Power,’ however gay activist L. Craig Schoonmaker didn’t like that suggestion. He explained, “There's very little chance for [gay] people in the world to have power...But anyone can have pride in themselves, and that would make them happier as people, and produce the movement likely to produce change."
Brenda Howard, L. Craig Schoonmaker and bisexual activist Robert A. Martin (aka Donny the Punk) are credited with popularizing the word "Pride" to describe the festivities in New York.
As the 1980s approached, there was a cultural shift in the gay movement. Just as the elections of Ronald Reagan & Margaret Thatcher indicated a conservative shift in their countries, activists of a less radical, more conservative nature began taking over the march committees in different cities. They dropped "Gay Liberation" and "Gay Freedom" from the names, replacing them with Schoomaker’s idea of "Gay Pride." This also coincided with the replacement of the more radical pink triangles for the more positive rainbow flags.
The word "pride" was embraced as it defies the bigotry and hatred against the LGBTQIA+ community. It also teaches people they should be proud of themselves rather than feel shame. Replacing shame with pride helps people to come out and to be more assertive about who they are and that they deserve the same rights as others.
In 1999, President Bill Clinton issued a proclamation declaring that the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies would "celebrate the anniversary of Stonewall every June in America as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month." President Barack Obama issued a proclamation in 2009 declaring June LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.
This is how we got Pride Month!
————————————————————
Part of the original ideas of parades was to bring queer people and queer culture into what was considered heteronormative spaces. Queer lives were seen as dissident and radical.
Today Pride events have taken on a festive character and it’s fun to join hundreds or thousands of other queer people.
Pride events still have some of the original political or activist character. Most offer some aspect dedicated to remembering victims of AIDS and anti-LGBT violence. Booths are often on hand with people collecting signatures in support of constitutional amendments or petitions for laws & policies to change.
Large parades often involve floats, dancers, drag queens and amplified music, and they usually include political and educational contingents, such as local politicians, and groups from LGBT institutions of various kinds, such as PFLAG. Other typical parade participants include local LGBT-friendly churches and LGBT-employee associations from large corporations.
The Stonewall riots, as well as the immediate and the ongoing political organizing that occurred following them, were fully participated in by lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people, and gays, from all races and backgrounds. Pride festivals and parades continue to be inclusive spaces.
Historically these events were first named Gay, the word at that time being used to cover the entire spectrum of what is now called the queer. Today these festivals & parades are often called Pride.

Queer Movies/Books/TV Shows for Pride Month!
Happy Pride everyone!! For your viewing/reading pleasure I have made a (non-exhaustive) list of queer media that I have enjoyed!
Movies/Documentaries
Pride (2014): An old tried and true favorite, which meets at the intersection of queer and workers’ rights. A group of queer activists support the 1985 miners’ strike in Wales (complete with a sing-through of Bread and Roses + Power in a Union)
Portrait of a Lady on Fire: On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, a female painter is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman (or, two young lesbians fall in love by the sea, and you cry)
God’s Own Country: Young farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path (Seriously this movie is GREAT and doesn’t get enough love, watch it! It’s rough but ends happily)
The Half of It:  When smart but cash-strapped teen Ellie Chu agrees to write a love letter for a jock, she doesn't expect to become his friend - or fall for his crush (as in she falls for his crush who is another girl. This movie was so good, and really friendship focused!)
Saving Face:  A Chinese-American lesbian and her traditionalist mother are reluctant to go public with secret loves that clash against cultural expectations (this is an oldie and a goodie, with a happy ending!)
Moonlight:  A young African-American man grapples with his identity and sexuality while experiencing the everyday struggles of childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood (featuring gay men of color!)
Carol:  An aspiring photographer develops an intimate relationship with an older woman in 1950s New York (everyone’s seen this I think, but I couldn’t not have it here)
Milk: The story of Harvey Milk and his struggles as an American gay activist who fought for gay rights and became California's first openly gay elected official (the speech at the end of this made me cry. Warning, of course, for death, if you don’t know about Harvey Milk)
Pride (Hulu Documentary):  A six-part documentary series chronicling the fight for LGBTQ civil rights in America (they go by decade from the 50s-2000s, and there is a lot of great trans inclusion in this)
Paris is Burning (Documentary): A 1990s documentary about the African American and Latinx ballroom scene. Available on Youtube!
A New York Christmas Wedding:  As her Christmas Eve wedding draws near, Jennifer is visited by an angel and shown what could have been if she hadn't denied her true feelings for her childhood best friend (this movie is SO CUTE. It’s really only nominally a Christmas movie and easily watched anytime. Features an interracial sapphic couple!)
TV Shows
Love, Victor: Victor is a new student at Creekwood High School on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation (this is a spin-off of Love, Simon, and it’s very sweet and well done! Featuring a young gay man of color)
Sex Education:  A teenage boy with a sex therapist mother teams up with a high school classmate to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school (this has multiple queer characters, including a featured young Black gay man and also in season 2 there is a side ace character!)
Black Sails: I mean, do I even need to put a summary here? If you follow me you know that Black Sails is full of queer pirates, just queers everywhere.
Gentleman Jack:  A dramatization of the life of LGBTQ+ trailblazer, voracious learner and cryptic diarist Anne Lister, who returns to Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1832, determined to transform the fate of her faded ancestral home Shibden Hall (Period drama lesbians!!! A title sequence  that will make you gay just by watching!)
Tales of the City (2019):  A middle-aged Mary Ann returns to San Francisco and reunites with the eccentric friends she left behind. "Tales of the City" focuses primarily on the people who live in a boardinghouse turned apartment complex owned by Anna Madrigal at 28 Barbary Lane, all of whom quickly become part of what Maupin coined a "logical family". It's no longer a secret that Mrs. Madrigal is transgender. Instead, she is haunted by something from her past that has long been too painful to share (this is based on a book series and it’s got lots of great inter-generational queer relationships!)
The Haunting of Bly Manor:  After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who reside at Bly Manor with the chef Owen, groundskeeper Jamie and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (sweet, tender, wonderful lesbians. A bittersweet ending but this show is so so wonderful)
Sense8: A group of people around the world are suddenly linked mentally, and must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world's order (queers just EVERYWHERE in this show, of all kinds)
Books
Loveless by Alice Oseman:  Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush – but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she’s sure she’ll find her person one day. This wise, warm and witty story of identity and self-acceptance sees Alice Oseman on towering form as Georgia and her friends discover that true love isn’t limited to romance (don’t be turned off by this title, it’s tongue-in-cheek. This is a book about an aroace college girl discovering herself and centers the importance and power of platonic relationships! I have it on my TBR and have heard great things)
Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters: Reese almost had it all: a loving relationship with Amy, an apartment in New York City, a job she didn't hate. She had scraped together what previous generations of trans women could only dream of: a life of mundane, bourgeois comforts. The only thing missing was a child. But then her girlfriend, Amy, detransitioned and became Ames, and everything fell apart. Now Reese is caught in a self-destructive pattern: avoiding her loneliness by sleeping with married men.Ames isn't happy either. He thought detransitioning to live as a man would make life easier, but that decision cost him his relationship with Reese—and losing her meant losing his only family. Even though their romance is over, he longs to find a way back to her. When Ames's boss and lover, Katrina, reveals that she's pregnant with his baby—and that she's not sure whether she wants to keep it—Ames wonders if this is the chance he's been waiting for. Could the three of them form some kind of unconventional family—and raise the baby together? This provocative debut is about what happens at the emotional, messy, vulnerable corners of womanhood that platitudes and good intentions can't reach. Torrey Peters brilliantly and fearlessly navigates the most dangerous taboos around gender, sex, and relationships, gifting us a thrillingly original, witty, and deeply moving novel (again, don’t be thrown off by the title, it too, is tongue-in-cheek. This book was GREAT, and written by a trans women with a queer-and especially trans--audience in mind)
A Tip for the Hangman by Allison Epstein: A gay Christopher Marlowe, at Cambridge and trying to become England’s best new playwright, finds himself wrapped up in royal espionage schemes while also falling in love (this book is by a Twitter friend of mine, and it is a wonderful historical thriller with a gay man at the center).
Creatures of Will and Temper by Molly Tanzer: a very very queer remix of The Picture of Dorian Gray (which was already quite queer), featuring amazing female characters, a gay Basil, and a much happier ending than the original.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: The gay prince of England and the bisexual, biracial first son of the president fall in love (think an AU of 2016 where a woman becomes president). Featuring a fantastic discovery of bisexuality, ruminations on grief, and just a truly astonishing book. One of my favorites!
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston:  For cynical twenty-three-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures. But then, there’s this gorgeous girl on the train (This is Casey McQuiston’s brand new novel featuring time-travel, queer women, and I absolutely cannot WAIT to read it)
The Heiress by Molly Greely: Set in the Pride and Prejudice universe, this takes on Anne de Bourg (Lady Catherine’s daughter), and makes her queer!
Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters:  Nan King, an oyster girl, is captivated by the music hall phenomenon Kitty Butler, a male impersonator extraordinaire treading the boards in Canterbury. Through a friend at the box office, Nan manages to visit all her shows and finally meet her heroine. Soon after, she becomes Kitty's dresser and the two head for the bright lights of Leicester Square where they begin a glittering career as music-hall stars in an all-singing and dancing double act. At the same time, behind closed doors, they admit their attraction to each other and their affair begins (Sarah Waters is the queen of historical lesbians. All of her books are good, and they’re all gay! The Paying Guests is another great one)
(On a side note re: queer books, there are MANY, these are just ones I’ve read more recently. Also there are a lot of indie/self-published writers doing great work writing queer books, so definitely support your local indie authors!)

Ima just do some headcanons for the (girl) characters finding out they aren’t straight
Violetta: Never really had a chance to feel something for anybody until she moved back to Buenos Aires. She spent most of her childhood either alone or making friends but having to leave a month afterwards. Violetta hadn’t even heard of the word bisexual until she came and thought having crushes on both the female villain and the male hero in her favorite show was normal.
She came to the studio and probably had a crush on Francesca since the first day but pushed it away as a friend crush. The two hung out a little and Violetta’s feelings developed more. Once at a sleepover with Camila and Francesca, Cami mentions something about thinking a few of the students are bisexual which prompts Violetta to think about herself more.
The summer in between season 1 and 2 is when she probably realized. Once she went to pick Francesca up and was overwhelmed with feelings is when she knew. She never really mentioned it and continued to live on but both of the girls tended to do things that you wouldn’t exactly do with just a friend.
Eventually one day Camila probably either locks them in a closet or tells one of the two to just confess already. She shoved them into the instrument room and locked the door.
Violetta knows what she meant but she isn’t sure if Fran does. Suddenly Francesca asked her if there’s something she needs to say and Violetta confesses that she’s bisexual. Francesca seems relieved and admits the same. Both of the girls have a little moment but nothing else, until their at Madrid that is.
Francesca: She never really bothered to label herself while younger. Had her first crush on a girl she met in Italy at a young age but she’d forgotten about it. Once she arrives at the studio, she meets Camila, who she assumed was bisexual from the moment she saw her. Francesca wasn’t really interested in figuring out who she was until Violetta came.
Obviously at the time she was into Tomás, but she couldn’t deny what she was feeling for Violetta either. It didn’t hit her until one night where Camila just tells her she should tell Violetta how she feels. Francesca hesitates and thinks about it but she never does.
Then she’s with Marco, who she really does love and care about but no matter what, she can’t forget Violetta. Once she broke up with Marco, she kind of felt free and got closer to Violetta who didn’t really notice.
Obviously, in Madrid they almost kissed but didn’t discuss it. Both of them knew the other was bi but had a mutual agreement not to mention it. Once they got back, Francesca and Violetta eventually sat down and talked over their feelings.
They agreed to having crushes on each other but decided to not take it further. There were a few times where one or the other wanted to make a move but held back. Although when Roxy and Fausta started, the two saw it as maybe a little chance to break free and possibly could have gone on a “date” as them.
Camila: She’s always had a great “gaydar,” (predicting Franletta, telling Fran to go for it, always noticing the tension between Naty and Ludmila etc...) but never really thought about it for herself. She’s always assumed she was straight but probably has had crushes on girls in the past and thought that’s how everyone felt. Although she’s always been interested in the LGBTQ+ community and knows a lot. One night over the phone (pre season 3) she brings it up to Francesca who’s like, “That’s not very straight.” And Camila’s more confused then ever, claiming “What are you talking about? Everyone does that?”
After Francesca’s explaining, Camila just kind of hangs up and thinks about it. She’s embarrassed at herself (especially for being the last one to realize it) but also kind of relieved. Now it makes sense. She thinks back to when she was testing with the different boys and realizes why. She stayed up most of the night to think about it and decided to label herself as Bisexual, which she’s very open about now and loves talking about it.
She probably went to the studio and realized how Naty acted around her which she just didn’t see before and realized she does the same thing, which lead to some awkwardness and Naty finally asking what’s wrong. Cami just kind of mumbled something and moved on. Her crush grew, which is when she also realized she kind of had feelings on Ludmila which confused her more.
Then she had to practice the kissing scene and she’s like “Ok, this is it.” Camila asked Naty who accepted and that’s where it happened.
She’s also the studios supplier of pride flags which she has a worrying amount of that she gives out in June but won’t reveal where they came from.
Ludmila: Has so much internalized homophobia she tells Naty in season one that she would rather die than date a girl. Naty doesn’t respond and draws back a little, causing her to go with Maxi which makes Ludmila unbelievably jealous.
All her life her mother has always told her to find a rich boy, and that girls shouldn’t marry girls. Ludmila took after that, probably why she didn’t like Camila originally because she always thought she was bisexual. Eventually Ludmila’s jealousy gets the best of her and she tells Naty that Maxi will just hurt her. Naty snaps, almost crying and tells her that she would do the same. Then she storms off, leaving Ludmila confused and hurt.
Once it hits around season 2, Ludmila’s started to recognize her feelings for Natalia but forces them away. She hates herself for it and has a few bad months where she just felt terrible and confused, leading her to come up with the idea to hurt Violetta, who she’s always admired and kind of crushed on but would never admit it. She kind of catches feelings for Camila which just makes her worse and she keeps so many of her emotions kept up she just snaps one night and doesn’t leave her room for a week. Eventually Ludmila realizes she never really felt the same way for a guy that she has for girls and her world is literally crushed. Federico was there to try to help her but she just lied and said she was done hurting people, never revealing the actual reason she was like this. She did like him but never in the same way.
Then it’s season 3. Ludmila becomes Violetta’s stepsister and her feelings for her are gone, but her ones for Naty and Camila grow. One night it’s probably 3:00 am and she’s sleep delirious and mentions to Violetta something about not knowing who she loved. Violetta gives her advice and tells her about how she was feeling. The girls never mention it again.
One day she and Naty are arguing and they both accidentally confess their feelings. Naty is shocked and Ludmila immediately regrets it, saying she could never be with a girl and runs, leaving Naty heartbroken. The day her mom is arrested though, Violetta urges her to go talk to Naty and Ludmila realizes she can finally be herself.
Natalia: Always admired her sister who wasn’t afraid to tell anyone who she was and was open to anything. She caught feelings for Ludmila around the end of season 1 and tries to push them away by being with Maxi. Eventually she confides in her sister who tells her to just be who she is.
Naty liked Maxi a lot, she still does. She’s always thought that was what a crush felt like, but in the end she realizes it was more one sided and platonic.
Knowing Ludmila would never be with her, she stays with Maxi in an attempt to maybe just forget her feelings but she never can. That’s when she catches feelings for Camila at the start of season 3 and now she’s more confused than ever.
She starts to hang out with Cami more. The two of them connect immediately. Naty realizes she’s only ever really crushed on girls and takes a few quizzes one night. She eventually decides she identifies as a lesbian and is terrified to tell anybody. She’s also poly.
Camila probably figured it out before her and Naty wasn’t sure what to do about it. Then they kiss, which is when she admits her feelings and Camila does the same. Naty really loves her but feels bad about it because she feels like she’s betraying Ludmila. Camila tells her that she needs to talk to her.
Once she does, Ludmila gets jealous but understands. She admits she has a crush on Cami too and Naty’s shocked. Eventually the girls figure it out and Camila brings them little matching pride pins .
I’ll do some for the boys later, or at least Diego and Leon but I don’t want this to be too long lol

SM LGBTQ+ Week 2023!
The second annual Sailor Moon LGBTQ+ Week takes place the week of June 18-24, 2023 (during Pride Month).
You may post your works on Tumblr, AO3, Deviantart, or anywhere you choose so as long as you link them in your Tumblr posts if they are off-site. All ratings are allowed, so long as NSFW work is properly tagged. You can add your AO3 works on our designated category for the event here: smlgbtqweek2023.
This also applies to trans people in straight relationships. Basically, as long as you're writing/ drawing/creating something featuring LGBTQ+ character(s), you're golden.
Don’t forget to tag us at @smlgbtqweek and use the hashtag #smlgbtqweek23 so we can reblog your work! **If you post something and don't see it reblogged, it's probably because we overlooked it or Tumblr didn't show it to us. Contact us and we will fix that right away!**
The prompt list is as follows:
Sunday, June 18, Day 1- Morning/Evening
Monday, June 19, Day 2- Argument/Laughter
Tuesday, June 20, Day 3- Vacation/Cooking
Wednesday, June 21, Day 4- Metal/Flowers
Thursday, June 22, Day 5- Destiny/Chance
Friday, June 23, Day 6- Pet Names/Gift
Saturday, June 24, Day 7- Free Day
Here's a handy graphic version, too!
Tumblr media
We know the prompt list is exciting, but please wait to post your entries until the actual day assigned in the prompt!
Have fun!

I love how unique they were so I wanted to draw them because I want to make a gift for their owners. They've done a wonderful and awesome job with their Kaiju OC's. I hope you know who they belong to. If not you can find their names on the pictures or I can put down where to find them!

Pride Month Doodle #2
Hello, my friend who’s apart of the LGBTQ+ group asked me to make another pride month doodle, only this time, it’s from a sitcom they like, Victorious. We won’t make more until next year. Please note that this is not a ship drawing. This was made specially for Pride Month. My friend is not a person that ships characters from any media. They just thought it would be cute. TBH, whenever I watched Victorious, I always thought it was weird how such a mean spirited goth like girl could be best friends with such an upbeat, joyful, bipolar redhead, but I guess we were just all okay with it back then. Sure, we probably questioned it back then, but I don’t think we got answers of to why or how they became friends. I think the only hints we got that they were friends were from some episodes and on theSlap.com. Anyways, I’m done talking. Take it and I hope you had a great Pride Month!
Credits: Jade West & Caterina “Cat” Valentine © Victorious, Dan Schneider, Nickelodeon & ViacomCBS My drawing belongs to me and me only. Please do NOT at all cost repost any of my comics, posters, or drawings on other websites. If someone does, let me know ASAP!! Also, please do not trace any of my drawings or comics, do not outline them, and especially do not color them in. If you do, you’ll face terrible consequences! Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Marvel Pride
So, I plan on doing this myself, and I thought I'd let others see it so they could do it too if they so choose (you should tag me if you do it because it would be fun to see other people's responses). If you really want me to tag you in these for some reason, let me know! So here's what I'm gonna do every day of the month!
1: What is your sexual and romantic orientation, and what is your gender and pronouns? This is a fun way to start because this can be connected to other questions! If you aren't comfortable answering this, please don't! As a back up question, what are your plans for pride this year?
2: Who are your favorite canon queer characters? Not many are confirmed in the MCU, and those that are aren't confirmed in the movies, but the comics have plenty of queer people!
3: Which characters do you headcanon as queer?
4: Who are your favorite queer characters? Confirmed? Headcanoned?
5: What line(s) have special meaning to you because of your queerness?
6: What are your favorite ships with at least one queer or headcanoned queer character? Not necessarily a "homosexual" relationship because bi/pan/omni/ply/ace/aro/abro/trans people can be in a straight passing relationship but they are still queer, and I want to be inclusive of those ships.
7: If you ship any queerplatonic relationships, what are they?
8: Which character that you headcanon is queer do you want Marvel to confirm the most?
9: Do you have romantic/sexual/queerplatonic/etc crushes on any of the characters? If so, who? Bonus question to honor Loki's release: if you headcanon Loki as queer, what sexuality/romanticism/gender do you specifically headcanon him as? Or did, if he is confirmed queer this first episode (I doubt it, but you never know).
10: Were any of the Marvel characters your sexual awakening? Who?
11: What is a queer headcanon you don't actually headcanon but would be funny?
12: Do you have any fun ways of celebrating pride that relate to Marvel? What are they? Show us pictures if you'd like!
13: What storylines/arcs do you relate to because of your queerness?
14: Do you ever feel like you project your sexuality on a character and question if you actually headcanon it or are just desperate for representation? If so, who? And, well, you might be projecting, but there's nothing wrong with that. Go ahead, make your favorite character the same as you. No one's gonna stop you! Have fun!
15: Has there ever been a character(s) that you adored for a long time, and then you realized you were queer, and you realized that was why you liked that character so much? If so, which character(s)?
16: What do you think the characters that are confirmed queer or you interpret as queer would do for pride?
17: If you could come out to any Marvel character, who would you come out to?
18: Lots of characters wear colorful things! Put some Marvel characters together to make some pride flags for yourself! You can either show us fanart, copy and paste pictures/gifs of them in that order, or just tell us the order and the costume.
19: Which Marvel character would be the best cishet ally?
20: If there were a group chat of all the queer Marvel characters (including those you headcanon as queer), who would constantly spam with quality queer memes?
21: Which characters do you think would come out and be overtly queer, and which ones do you think would be more shy about it or stay entirely in the closet?
22: What is the biggest pet peeve you have in relation to the Marvel fandom(s) and the LGBTQ+ community? (Things like being annoyed by fetishization of queers or complete denial of queerness or heteronormativity or allonormativity or a compulsion to make things romantic or discrimination you've face, stuff like that).
23: If Marvel were to confirm a character as queer, what would be your biggest fear? Your biggest hope?
24: Who is your comfort character(s) in regards to queerness?
25: What sort of pride apparel do you think the characters would wear/have, if any?
26: If you were scared because you were in an area hostile to queers, which character would you want to be at your side to wreck anyone that dared touch you?
27: What harmless stereotypes do the queer characters fall into? Things like wearing flannels or sitting oddly, that sort of stuff.
28: Do you have any queer jokes relating to Marvel? If so, please share.
29: Do something artistic in relation to Marvel and the LGBTQ+ community. Drawing, painting, ceramics, jewelry, calligraphy, photo editing, music, whatever you'd like! Share with us what you did!
30: Did you have a good, fun, safe pride month? Did you enjoy this fun little thing? As for Marvel, what sort of representation would you like to see someday? And, if Loki does end up being confirmed as queer by now, what did you think?
I hope anyone that does this has fun! If you are interested in seeing what I do with this, I will be titling all of mine "Michelle, Marvel, and Pride." And I can tag you if you so desire. But tag me if you want to do this if that's alright with you, I'd love to see other people's thoughts. And if any queerphobes take this as an opportunity to spread hate, you will be blocked.

Hi! For the next 2 months (June & July) I'll have this type of commission open for the charities LGBTQ Freedom Fund, BLM Seattle-King County, Northwest Community Bail Fund, and the Seattle Mutual Aid Fund.
You can find the donation links & more info below!
LGBTQ Freedom Fund
BLM Seattle-King County
Northwest Community Bail Fund
Seattle Mutual Aid Fund
I'll still have my regular commissions open too, which you can find more info for in my commissions tag, but I will not be accepting donation receipts for those since I need a source of revenue while my work hours are severely cut during the pandemic.
If you wish to donate more than $15, I'll be happy to draw multiple icons for you! Just be sure to have all the character refs ready at once (or you can get multiple unique icons of the same character if that's your preference).
You can expect my turnaround for these to be around 1-2 days, and I'll be sharing all completed pride icons in batches here as they’re completed (unless you ask me not to!)
Thank you for reading!
