One question. What do you think Disney from America controls European Disney and must be their canon, what's the matter? Is there something they don't like?

Hi and sorry for not answering this question earlier. You have asked a good question, but I am not sure how to answer it through a long essay or through short explanations, although I will answer it this way.

After all, Disney was created in America by Walt Disney and originally they created all the important characters we know, European writers and artists used them in their comics only later, after the Second World War. Back then, there wasn't so much censorship and writers were free to do whatever they wanted without ruining the originality. And so for several decades until the last decade. Romano Scarpa and Guido Martina created separate comics in their own ways, different from Carl Barks and Al Taliaferro and you have an Italian vision through Topolino comics. You also have Dutch, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish writers and artists who, relying on Carl Barks and the American Disney, made comics in their own way and thus created a separate kind of Donald Duck comics. Yes, you also have Brazilian comics who have written a lot of comics especially about Jose Carioca ever since the movie Saludos Amigos from 1942 was shown. And they created those comics in their own way, which is quite different from American comics. Unlike Latin American and European comics, American comics after the 1940s era clearly separated Mickey and Donald so that they neither see each other nor know each other except at times, since they live in different cities, such as Mousetown and Duckburg. American comics, not counting Archie comics, Peanuts, Garfield, and superhero comics, declined after the 1980s because television took precedence, so many watched television, either series, movies, or cartoons instead of reading comics. So Disney comics also experienced a market decline during that period and then you have the making of the OG Ducktales in 1987 which was made mostly by Disney's animation studio in Tokyo, Japan. And since then, the American Disney has not relied on comics, although since the time of Walt Disney, the differences between the canon in cartoons and in comics have been clearly made.

From what I've talked to others, Walt Disney was also unhappy with the popularity of Scrooge McDuck that Carl Barks created, because a different Christmas comic should have been created. However, the American Disney has clearly indicated that the canon in cartoons is the only official canon, while the comic book is not, except in some exceptions, but that's why they force their other productions where they have ownership to obey and respect the given canon that Disney requires. I think since the golden age of cartoons, the story started about how the official Disney can't really stand their comics, even though the comics took Mickey, Donald and other characters to a high level. Many of the characters we know came from comic books rather than cartoons. I'm not saying this for nothing, since your question just stated that since everything is under the Disney name, although they deviated from the path set by Walt Disney, they still determine the main editorial policy for many comics published in Europe and Latin America. Yes, before, as I mentioned, the authors made independently in their own way, but so that Disney didn't even know, but with the arrival of the Internet, that changed and a kind of censorship had to be done. Sometimes due to public pressure, sometimes due to wrong decisions, although I don't like to talk about politics here, but I think that lately politics has had a lot of influence on it, although I will tell you that politics had a lot of influence during the Second World War as well. Propaganda cartoons are very much the case. But in order not to deviate from the topic, I will tell you a couple of examples where American Disney had a lot of influence on European comics and how the writers still had to respect Disney's canon.

Donald Duck had several girlfriends in addition to Daisy and that the earlier Donald Duck fandom preferred Donald with other people rather than Daisy because Daisy was a bitch who treated Donald horribly, although that's not Daisy's fault as much as the writers who over Daisy mocked feminism. Yes, I love when Donald and Daisy fight over stupid things, but not that Donald constantly suffers from Daisy's impossible wishes that never come true and then kicks Donald like that for her displeasure. Disappointed, Donald finds other people who will suit him better. One of the most common examples with whom Donald is on excellent terms is Reginella, the queen of the planet Pacificus, and she appeared for the first time in the comic "Paperino e l'avventura sottomarina" or Donald and the underwater adventures from 1972 by the writer Rodolfo Cimino and the artist Giorgio Cavazzano when Donald first meets Reginella. Reginella became Donald's new hope and their couple was really great in my opinion and so in several comics. Yes, I love the Donald and Daisy romance, but Reginella with Donald is very special to me and I understand why others prefer it over Donald and Daisy.

However, since Disney found out what other comics were doing unofficially, Disney imposed an unwritten rule that their canon must be respected, so Donald must be with Daisy and no one else. So the last comic with Reginella from August 2021 called "L'ultima avventura di Reginella" or The Last Adventure with Reginella by authors Alex Bertani and Vito Stabile and artist Stefano Zanchi is about the breakup between Donald and Reginella because supposedly Scrooge can't more to finance Donald's trip to another planet, and Donald also admitted to Reginella that Daisy is his first and only love. Yes, Daisy has improved a lot in the last comics and treats Donald differently, but again it was really pathetic that something like that had to be done instead of making some kind of deal to make a clone of Donald and stay with Reginella or something like that. It just tells you that official Disney made the decision that way. However, Reginella appears in two more comics after that and has one comic with Daisy, but I haven't read that comic so I can't tell you exactly. Those who are and who know it, would tell you. Although I would like to see Daisy and Reginella together.

Of course the love relationship between Donald and Reginella is not the only one, but I put it as the most common example that Donald is not only with Daisy as the only "canon" girlfriend. You also have romantic relationships Donald with Lyla Lay (Paperinik New Adventures), Xadhoom (Paperinik New Adventures), Kay K (Double Duck), and others. However, in the comic Double Duck "Agent Zero" Kay K admits to Daisy that Donald's greatest love is Daisy and that they are still friends and Daisy was ashamed of that because before she was very jealous that Donald was with someone else and not Daisy. And there you can see that even though Donald is with someone else, he still stays with Daisy, but it is by no means a breakup under Disney's directive as it was done with Reginella.

2. Canceled characters due to certain things

Dutch comics mostly until 2019 and 2020 drew characters from Song of the South such as Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear and they even had separate comics and were often represented together with Mickey, Donald and friends because they were anthropomorphic characters that also represented classic Disney. Of course, because of the problems in America related to the African-American population, Disney had to stop it and exclude the given characters because they represented caricatures of the African-American population from the South of the 19th century. The South, I mean the South of the USA, where there used to be a Confederacy that seceded and where the Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865. Of course, they could have just stated that it was a product of its time and that the value system back then was not the same as today's, but no, Disney banned Song of The South and cut those characters out, and those characters never appeared again, in those Dutch comics. Yes, I certainly condemn racism, but one must know that it should be censored in a different way, that is, to send a warning. Warner Bros. did a good job with Looney Tunes where they just said it was a product of its time and we don't make it anymore. In this way, you respect the old materials, and you also respect other people of other races. That is, everyone is satisfied. However, in the Dutch comics, Brer Rabbit is presented differently, after all, Disney takes the lead and they are not interested in excuses.

Not to mention the censoring of two Don Rosa comics because of Bombie the Zombie. Instead of giving a warning that it was the product of a man who created under the influence of Barks and that Disney had nothing to do with it, they simply banned it as if they were ashamed of the past. And you know who is ashamed of the past and simply forgets it, is condemned to repeat it, but worse. But I would not talk about that, because it is too difficult a topic.

3. There are no dark scenes in Disney comics like before

There are no more dark scenes like gun chases, dark and dangerous scenes as well as related to the depiction of women and ladies in a realistic view, because it is certainly not for children according to Disney, even though those comics are also read by adults, nor should there be anything dark related to Mickey and friends, and you have the Mickey Mystery comics where exactly such scenes appear. Mostly done for security reasons. However, due to Disney's recent policy and knowing what the authors of European comics are doing, they had to take a different approach. It is no longer the 1990s where you could have scary scenes like in PKNA and where you would feel sorry for Donald as if you were watching some dark blockbuster movie, yet the American Disney which supposedly has its main rules and its main say to decide what can be done in comics and what not not. And they deny comic book material, which is really ironic. Although I'm more frustrated about these things that Disney is doing lately, I still partially understand the need for censorship, but not to ban certain characters (especially Hiawatha), but you can't show racist caricatures like before, but it certainly doesn't mean that you should ban them to give the content to be displayed and read, because this negates the past, which is a great danger for future generations. Of course, European comic artists and writers approach these problems differently and write differently, but they certainly have the free right to draw and work, but they must adhere to the main canons that Disney sets. One of the reasons why you don't even get to see Donald's parents alive or the father of Donald's nephews appear and if he even exists.

There is a lot to say, but I think this is enough. I also apologize if I offended anyone with some of my comments, as it is not necessarily aimed at anyone except for certain stupid Disney decisions. I may have been vague, so I ask especially those who know Disney comics to correct me if I made any mistakes and feel free to add what you want to say. I hope these answers will help you enough to know why there are no more dangerous scenes in Disney comics like before. O fuck you also had the fucking Disney duck comics as a kid??? I had an MMM (Micky Maus Magazin, much thinner but weekly and with non-comic content) subscription and my brother had an LTB (Lustiges Taschenbuch, our Disney duck comic books) and we were always so excited when a new one of either arrived. I read so fucking many of them... Who were your favourite characters?

I just had the Donald Duck comics growing up, never read anything else from Disney (they're very popular here! Or at least they were when I was a kid. My mum read them too growing up but she had to read them in Danish since they weren't translated into Icelandic yet back then but like point is they were popular)

Since I read them in Icelandic I don't really know the English names of most of the characters like to me that's Andrés Önd lol (or Kalle Anka while I lived in Sweden) but I remember my favourite character was Georg Gírlausi (the scientist guy?) and I really really liked Donald Duck's superhero alterego, which we call Stálöndin

Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck - Triplets Mania - 85th anniversary - Quack Pack Week - Triplets - Plus Phooey Duck

Yes, I should have drawn this 2 weeks ago, but due to numerous problems I had, I didn't get to finish it then, but thank God I made it now.

Yes, on October 17, 1937, Al Taliaferro and Tad Obsorne drew a comic called Donald's Nephews and Donald's nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck appeared for the first time. Yes, Huey is red, Dewey is blue, and Louie is green. They then appeared for the first time on April 15, 1938, in the animation under the same name, and their history begins from then. They are mostly mischievous boys who defy Donald and Scrooge, but love to go on adventures with them. They also go to school and are members of the Junior Woodchucks, an important scout group. Yes, they are very smart and are partly moral compasses with Donald, their important uncle, as well as for Donald's uncle Scrooge. They also love hanging out most with Daisy's nieces April, May and June Duck as well as Gyro's nephew Newton. They have often appeared in cartoons, comics, and video games. Whenever Donald was present, they, Donald's nephews, had to be present as well. Yes, you know them most in Ducktales, but they were present outside of that as well.

Donald's classic shorts, Ducktales (original and reboot), Quack Pack, and various comics have mostly portrayed Donald's nephews in the best possible ways. So I drew two drawings (since it wouldn't all fit) showing various versions of Donald's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie from the beginning to the present day. Drawn all three in his classic style from various series and comics such as Mr Duck Steps Out, Trick or Treat, Junior Woodchucks (Carl Barks, Don Rosa, Topolino comics as well as Dutch comics), Ducktales 1987, Ducktales 2017, Quack Pack, Area 15, Spookyzone and Duckscares. Yes, I also added Phooey Duck in three versions (the classic Ducktales version, the reboot version and the Quack Pack version) as Donald's fourth yellow nephew.

I hope you like this idea and this drawing and I certainly wish them a happy 85th anniversary since their first existence, and from next year their 85th birthday (actually they don't have that many, but then their birthday is in April). Happy Birthday Huey, Dewey and Louie! Yes, they are after Donald and Goofy, my favorite and best Disney characters.

By the way, what is your favorite version of Donald's nephews and your favorite triplet? And of course happy Halloween!

This artwork comes from Jordi David Redo’s private collection and has been specially selected by himself to present to Corner4art. En esta historieta, Francisco Ibez nos comenta los principios de Mortadelo y Filemn, de qu manera se conocieron, llegaron a ser agentes misterios y asimismo el porqu de la calva de Mortadelo (un proyecto fallido de Bacterio). Some of these pieces (like the “Little Hiawatha” adventures) were also published in the German “Micky Maus” magazine. Jordi David collaborated in the Danish “Donald Duck”magazine for thirty years, illustrating numerous stories and well known Disney characters, from Mickey Mouse to Little Hiawatha.

One of the earliest Magica stories, this one is from 1969. One of the most creative out there, especially for being such an early one. Also there’s a scene where Magica goes all scarface (i think, i have never watched that stuff i just heard he goes all shooty shoot) and thats quite amusing.

Really sweet comic. Everyone who only knows Magica from ducktales should read this comic to understand how much more complicated her character is in the original comics. It does such a great job at showing the other facets of her character in such a simple way. Don’t listen to the inducks review of m3gr1ml0ck (he’s almost always super based but not this time). Listen to the inducks review of Appie Aap (who is always based because he’s Appie Aap).

Kind of overrated in my opinion but Sarda’s characterization is PERFECTION. Story is average asf (though maybe i need to reread it) but all the little things are so incredibly well done. Molinari is great too of course.

It’s one of the recent more well known comics yeah okay but its mostly known because people thought Vian thought Etna was the Vesuvius (which they solved with a simple dialogue change in the German translation because it really was not that complicated guys) and it should be known for being a great comic instead. One day I will write a really long review about why it’s a masterpiece. Maybe. It perfectly manages to bring back the spirit of the Sarda written comics without some of the annoying quirks of his writing and with the fact that Bruno Enna is writing now and I love Bruno Enna guys robophobia is a masterpiece last hunt is a masterpiece i love bruno enna-

Magica really cares a lot about Ratface. You should read it.

Magica really cates about Ratface part 2. These two comics aren’t must reads but they’re good to help understand Magica and Ratface their relationship. (In italian comics at least. They seem to hate each other sometimes in Denmark)

Talking about Danish stories. Here. (Written by an American and drawn by a Dutchie. Egmont knows no borders) It IS quite well known, but tumblr here seems mostly familiar with Italian comics and this story has never been published in Italy, so I still think it deserves a mention. I was never a big fan of it, but all the inducksers seem to like it and i cant ignore its significance. So here it is i would still recommend.

Magica turns herself into a floppy disk and everything you expect to happen happens. You want a typical fun but average Dutch comic? Then i’d recommend this one.

I really wanted to suggest more Danish stories but i have either not read them, theyre a gal for gladstone (aka not not well known) or theyre bad.

SO, I was inspired by posts from @ankkalinna and @land-of-birds-and-comics to spend some of my extra money on a month’s digital subscription to DUCK COMICS~!

(Well, actually, it’s a sub to about 40 Danish magazines including 3 duck ones but it cost about the same as physical US comics, i’m not interested in collecting, and I’m learning Danish, so... )

I’ve only just begun reading (it’s slow-going bc I’m only to A2 in Danish if that) but I’ve flipped through the pages and here are some Things I’ve Learned So Far:

There is a Beagle Boy with a beard called Dirk. He smokes a corncob pipe.

Gyro has a sweetheart :)

They actually put a full coat of feathers on their cartoon t-rex god bless

They still print Song of the South comics in Europe???

With few exceptions, every character besides the mains are dog-people. why. why are there only dog people in Duckburg?

I need to double down on my Danish bc apparently the sub gives me huge backlogs for all three magazines and there is so much to read aaaaaah

In short, if you like Ducktales, try the comics. You won’t regret.

Duckvember - Humble Duck (Ducks)

Although I'm already late with the posts, I'm definitely posting my drawing from the previous topics. This time I drew two drawings related to the theme of Humble Duck. This time it's the Humble Ducks.

The first drawing is partly a redraw of a famous scene from the movie Fantasia 2000, one of the best animated movies that Disney made. One part called Pomp Circumstance featuring Donald and Daisy Duck. It's about the time of Noah and Noah's Ark where Donald and Daisy help Noah save the animals from the coming flood. Before the flood, Daisy loses the locket and Donald returns it to her. Yes, it's a little strange that some things like umbrellas exist in Noah's day. Yes, their romance was outstanding as was the animation in that part. For those who don't know Pomp Cricumstance is a composition by Sir Edward Elgar.

Another drawing shows Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck in the present time giving a bicycle to one of their best friends, Sonny Seagull (his other name is Garvey Gull), a poor boy who lives a Huckleberry Finn-like life. However, Donald's nephews help him and he partly lives with them. Sonny is a character invented by Daniel Branca and mainly appears in the Danish Egmont comics. So they give HDL a bike for Sonny and the way Sonny likes it. He just has to be careful because the bike has no brakes.

So Donald and his nephews are certainly humble ducks. I hope you like these drawings.

Mordred's Paladin Problems: Ogier the Dane (1)

You can't really blame Merlin for switching sides. It's nice to be appreciated, wouldn't you agree. Especially by a lady who ticks all your boxes.

Charlemagne's cohorts are somewhat horrific in the sense that they became his allies due to circumstances that would have made them his mortal enemies in any other story. Fierabras, the giant, was originally a Muslim who sacked Roman basilicas under the orders of his father, King Balan of Spain. Among the relics he stole were two barrels of balm...which had been used on the corpse of Jesus Christ. This heist has been immortalised in the pages of Don Quixote where the titular knight recreates the stolen holy ointment and promptly drinks it, converting the skin soothing mixture into an impromptu laxative.

Very much a fan of Jesus, Charlemagne invaded Spain as revenge and assigned Oliver/Olivier (Roland's main sidekick, which should tell you all you need to know about what Charlemagne thought of the Spanish Prince), one of his Paladins, to personally punish Fierabras. Upon his defeat, Fierabras' life was spared and the giant converted to Christianity. Charlemagne was nowhere near as merciful towards Balan, who he soon after murdered before dividing Spain between Fierabras and fellow Paladin Gui de Bourgogne (better known as Pope Callixtus II) who had married Fierabras' sister while this was all going on.

Case in point, Ogier's son was slain by Charlemagne's son Charlot. In revenge, Ogier slew Charlot (although the unfortunate Charlot meets his death in other ways, such as being accidentally killed by Huon of Bordeaux). This sparked a war between Ogier and Charlemagne that lasted seven years which ended with Ogier being defeated and subsequently imprisoned for seven more years. During his bondage, Ogier made peace with Charlemagne and joined his ranks before being fully knighted for his bravery in repelling Saracens from Italy.

Killing a man's son and then getting hired by said man might seem outrageous, but as many of you know, Charlemagne had oodles of kids lying around Europe. Like a whole lot of them. The late Christopher Lee was one of his descendants.

Ogier stumbling into Avalon and then getting down and dirty with Morgan Le Fay is from Brun de la Montaigne the 14th century epic concerning him.

However, there exists an alternate legend in Roman d'Ogier. Remember that scene from Disney's Sleeping Beauty where a bunch of fairies swoop in to bless the baby princess with various "gifts"? Well, picture that with a newborn Ogier except one of the (six) fairies is Morgan Le Fay. And instead of pulling a Maleficent, Morgan gifts the infant Ogier with long life...and a romance with her (although Disney's Maleficent movies seem to be inching ever closer to this direction). PALADIN H!!!!

In that version of Ogier's myth, he lives to be the 100 year-old King of England before Morgan arranges a shipwreck to strand him in Avalon. Because, after all, this is still Morgan we're talking about. After about 200 years of humping her on-and-off, Ogier returns to save France from a great peril.

Ogier and Morgan had a son (yes, singular) during their relationship named Meurvin/Marlyn who, unlike Mordred or Ogier's murdered boy, became subject to a lengthy Renaissance era romance.

Hans Christian Andersen wrote a short story that codified the folk tale of Ogier as an Arthurian-esque King Asleep in the Mountain who will awaken during Denmark's time of greatest need. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to fit him into these relentlessly stupid Las Vegas comics.

Ogier is a longstanding Danish national icon and has been used as a symbol for Denmark's longstanding enmity against German influence in their culture, particularly during German occupation during World War 2 wherein the most prominent Danish resistance cell was named after him.

Conversely, Ogier's famous statues are barely a century old (the original was made in 1907) but popular culture has meshed them with his "sleeping" legend (as in, they will spring to life during the aforementioned ultimate Danish crisis) in spite of the obvious incompatibilities. In spite of their relative newness, there are many conflicting accounts as to which one (the bronze or the plaster) came first. Although, from what I've gleaned, it's less about what's historically true and what the teller prefers, however minor this detail is.

Ogier's character portrait was made by simply cutting out the image of his plaster statue from a photo of it, putting it through an online "illustrative" filter, and then altering its color for a bronze version. It's my hope that it could feasibly fit in with the various styles present in FGO.

Ogier being a statue to start with was primarily motivated by my amusement that in spite of the antics of the Alien God and Goetia in wiping out human civilization/existence, none of the legendary messianic "Kings in the Mountain" actually bothered to wake up unless you count them being summonable from the Throne. The double team gag came later.

Mordred: If you talking about Artoria, then I thank you but that’s my father. If you are talking about Morgan le Faye...Then I demand that we have a duel on the casino roof top.

Ogier: That doesn’t sound so bad.

Mordred: We are playing Paradox Billards Vostroy and Roulette Fourth Dimensional Hypercube Chess Strip Poker.

Ogier: Huh?
