Punk Hazard
Now to put this into a story.
Part 2 Here
It was a normal day in Central City. The Flashes were fighting the latest team-up between Killer Frost and Captain Cold. So of course it was snowing in July now and traffic was stalled due to ìce attacks making the roads impassable. But the heroes had the villains on the ropes. Then a fresh wave of ice and cold came out of nowhere, covering everything and everyone in frost. Dropping the temperature further as the crunching of boots on ice drew everyone's attention. Dressed in distressed black leather pants with frosted chains, a black crop top with a deep v-neck lined with blue, and plenty of ice chains to rattle as he walked was a teen near Impulse's age with pale blue skin, elfin features, and long black hair streaked with white and blue. Blue lips pulled into a deadly smirk as the air started to thrum with vibrations and the beat of crackling ice, "Time to drop the beat down."
Unfortunately for the heroes, they were not familiar with this villain's move set or powers. And it seemed they had made a mistake in assuming that his powers were similar to the other two ice villains. Only to be thrown for a loop when they missed a beat and started to freeze. And the music was only getting faster and with it came faster ice attacks.
Later, Barry groaned as his team worked to get him, Wally, and Bart out of their ice prisons. The three of them were shivering and turning blue from how cold their core temps had dropped. Looked like they would be hitting the showers on max heat once thawed out.
"What in the world was that?" Wally groaned once he was finally freed, while Barry rubbed his hands together to get feeling back, "I don't know but we better get investigating to figure out how to fight this new guy."
"Yeah, I don't fancy being a Flash-cicle just because I can't keep the beat," Wally grumbled, "Dick is going to make me play sooo much Just Dance once he hears about our new villain."
"You noticed it too?" Bart shivered, taking his mind away from the fact that the new villain was around his age and rather interesting to look at. Something he hadn't noticed before on others. he shook his head, no he needed to focus, "We had to follow the beat of the music or we started to freeze up. It was pretty easy to do until he started to ramp up the difficulty. Also...He has to follow the beat as well."
Barry groaned softly as he wrapped the blanket handed to him around his shoulders, "Wally is right, we are going to have to start ramping up our Just Dance scores...Hal is going to laugh himself sick."
All three groaned realizing their respective teams were going to be insufferable.
---
"You are pretty badass, kid," Killer Frost smirked once they got away from the heroes, "What even are your powers?" "A cross between music manipulation and Ice control," He shrugged, "I've been calling it Cryo Symphony." "Got a name?" Captain Cold grunted looking over the little punk, though little probably only applied to age given the kid was nearly his height and in that awkward stage between Twink and Tank.
"I was thinking Punk Frost-" "Yeah no, I got Frost already covered and I'm not looking for a side kick," Killer Frost hissed at him, making the kid raise his hands in surrender, "Okay, how about Punk Hazard? After all, I am a punk and my powers are hazardous to other's health if they can't keep the beat." "Sounds good kid, now you got a place to stay?" Snart asked, tone gruff but concerned. He never liked seeing kids turn to the villain life, didn't really like kiddie heroes but at least they had more support then kiddie villains did.
"Ummm not really?" Danny shrugged, "Probably the bridge I've been sleeping under."
Even Frost looked concerned at that, causing Snart to sigh, "Yeah no, I got a safe house you can crash at. Come on, you look like you haven't eaten in days." Danny blinked in confusion, "Huh?" Making Frost snicker, "Sorry, kid looks like you've been adopted."

Noticed a peculiar shot while rewatching Legends of Tomorrow, a blink-and-you-miss-it sort of thing.
In S1 E12, in the scene where Mick is going to talk to his younger self, Snart can be seen cradling a baby in the background.
WHO-
WHO ENTRUSTED THIS MAN WITH A BABY
BE STILL MY BEATING HEART
I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE
lmfao gotta be real w you anon i'd trust len w a baby before i'd trust almost any of the other legends 😂 like they're all a mess, but at least he's got some child-rearing experience!! and its his baby self so that ought to motivate him to do a good job haha
Tumblr media
but yeah youre right this is definitely one of those moments i would never have noticed if it wasn't for other gifmakers pointing it out. look at him tho! he's so happy 😭
(also pictured: mick's giant head getting in the way of the cutest shot in history 😅)

Things LoT Characters Absolutely Have Said
Stein: Stop setting things on fire because you're curious about what will happen. What will happen is fire.
Jax: But what if something else happens just this one time-
~~~~~~~~~~~
Stein: So, did everyone learn their lesson? Snart: No. Sara: I did not. Ray: I may have actually forgotten one. Jax: Also no. Stein: Oh good, neither did I. Rip: *Exhausted sigh*
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sara: I'm cold. Snart: Here, take my jacket. *later* Ray: I'm cold.
Snart: I can't control the weather, Ray.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Ray: Hey, did you know as a kid I accidentally ate paper?
Kendra: I feel like we've all done that at least once.
Mick: I ate it too-
Kendra: See?
Mick: on purpose
Ray & Kendra: ...What?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ray, reading a recipe: Beat three eggs?
Sara: It means like in hand-to-hand combat.
Ray: Ohhhh-
Rip: Both of you get out of this kitchen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jax: If you spell skeletons backwards, it still spells skeletons!
Snart, deadpan: Wow, I can't wait for Halloween to see some snoteleks.
That Rare Arctic Thunderstorm: Ch7 (on AO3)
FULL FIC LINK HERE
For a decade and a half, while he’d been locked up in Iron Heights, Henry had wondered what it would have been like to return to his old neighborhood and his old home with Nora. He’d wondered what it would have been like to watch their son Barry grow up, go to college, start a life of his own. By Barry’s account, those long years had been less than perfect, but Henry was still grateful that his only child hadn’t been raised by a total stranger. Framed posters of musicals and famous scientific quotes covered the walls of his old bedroom at Joe West’s house. Henry brushed his hand over the plaid bedspread, following a ray of sunshine—still bright at seven PM, he'd never tire of seeing it—up to a small crack in the ceiling. The closet was partially open, and when he tilted his head at just the right angle, he could glimpse the small box of old clothes and linens Joe still hadn’t taken to Goodwill. Henry turned his attention to the sturdy oak shelf by the desk, which still housed old physics and chemistry textbooks and a dog-eared first-edition copy of Harrison Wells’s biography. That last book made the small, fond smile fade from his face.
“Barry idolized that man. It’s still hard to believe he wasn’t who we thought he was.”
Henry turned to find a weary Joe West standing in the door, watching him. “No, that man did exist,” he disagreed. “We just never got to meet him. He was the Reverse-Flash’s first victim.” He patted Barry’s bed one last time. “Thanks for letting me come up here again.”
“Any time. I was kidding Barry about turning this room into a home gym. Work keeps me too busy for that.” Among other things, Joe expression all but screamed.
“I’ve got a long way to go before I get my license back, but as a doctor, I shouldn’t have to remind you to take better care of yourself.” Henry joined him by the door.
“Fair point. Now, are you ready to come down?” Joe gestured towards the stairs. “I heard Mike’s car pulling up. Knowing Avigail, she’s sent him over with extra food for us again.”
Some days, Henry still couldn’t believe how many people wanted to support him as he navigated life as a free man. The interview he’d given Iris for CCPN had gone viral. There were the usual conspiracy theorists, but shop clerks who recognized him from his very public acquittal sometimes snuck him discounts or freebies at the stores. “Just a little something to help you get back on your feet, Doc,” they’d say. And then, of course, there were the friends he’d made through his son. A district attorney, several police officers, academics, and scientists—it was a surprising group, and one he was very grateful for. And not just because Mike’s wife tended to send enough brisket and kugel to last him for at least a week at a time.
“I’m never going to learn to cook for myself at this rate,” Henry laughed as he sat down to dinner with Joe, Cecile, and Mike.
“I’ve almost forgotten how to boil pasta,” Joe agreed with a chuckle, popping open a bottle of wine. “Oh, don’t worry, Mike. This one’s kosher.”
“Ah, don’t worry about it.” The older detective held up his glass. “The missus needs people to cook for, with our sons all married. It keeps her happy, especially since I can’t tell her about half the things going on in the city these days.” His smile was only a little regretful.
“Right now, it’s keeping her safe.” Henry declined the wine, pouring himself a glass of water instead. “The food helps when I’m too wrapped up in studies to do groceries, really.” “You could go out more,” Cecile suggested. “I’d never say no to lunch. Martin would love to meet up with you to talk about that Jackson kid. Him, Quentin, even Tina McGee.”
Some cool Easter eggs I caught watching My Adventures with Superman that I want to show to people so they can be in on it with comic book readers: For the first episode's Easter eggs it's here
For the second episode's Easter eggs it's here
For the third episode's Easter eggs it's here
For the fourth episode's Easter eggs it's here
For the sixth episode's Easter eggs it's here
For the seventh episode's Easter eggs it's here and here
For the eighth episode's Easter eggs post it's here
For the ninth episode's Easter eggs post it's here
For the tenth episode's Easter eggs post it's here SPOILERS if you haven't seen this week's episode obviously
Tumblr media
We start off the episode with this shot of Superman with the drawn on glasses. A good homage to what Lois did in the 1980 Superman II movie...
Tumblr media
where she not only drew the glasses but also a full suit and hat on a picture of Superman.
Tumblr media
Next we see Jimmy waking up and seeing someone debunking his conspiracy theories on Sub-Diego.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sub Diego was an actual place in the DC universe before the New 52 reboot. In Aquaman #15 and #16 (2003) , shown here (W: Will Pfeifer, P: Patrick Gleason, I: Christian Alamy, C: Nathan Eyring, L: Jared K. Fletcher for issue 15, Nick Napolitano for issue 16). The underwater city is actually San Diego, but is buried underwater thanks to a tidal wave and makes its first appearance in Aquaman #15 (2003). There was a lot of casualties from this.
Tumblr media
When we get to our title its "You Will Believe A Man Can Lie" a reference to the tagline for the 1978 Superman movie.
Tumblr media
As seen here on the poster, it says "You'll believe a man can fly".
Tumblr media
Next we see our villain, well one of the villains, for the episode, Heatwave.
Tumblr media
In the comics Heatwave makes his first appearance in Flash 140 (1963) (cover art by Carmine Infantino, Murphy Anderson, and Ira Schnapp). Heatwave aka Mick Rory is a Flash rogue usually acting as a rival to Captain Cold aka Leonard Snart. In MAwS, their Heatwave shares the same last name and powers, but MAwS Heatwave is gender flipped. You might have seen Heatwave in the CW DC comics shows where he is played by Dominic Purcell in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
Tumblr media
Lois, later in the episode, name drops Heatwave's name. Gotta be honest when Heatwave showed up I was like is that Rampage? Cuz the MAwS design looks vaguely like Rampage.
Tumblr media
If she does show up in MAwS, I'll talk more about her in another post, but for now, Rampage aka Karen Lou "Kitty" Faulkner, makes her first appearance in Superman #7 (1987) (full page here: W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza).
Tumblr media
Steve drags Jimmy to film his debunking Flamebird videos and references Starro who I talked about here.
Tumblr media
Lois, later runs around with the Daily Planet police scanner trying to catch Superman and the dispatcher reports that a robbery is in progress at McGuinness Luxe Garage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a nice reference to Ed McGuinness who was the artist for Superman, Action Comics, and Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. If you've seen Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, then you'll know the movie takes inspiration from his character designs in the first arc of the Superman/Batman comic series. The Superman/Batman #1 (2003) cover here is done by Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines, and Dave Stewart. I like Ed McGuinness's pencils, very stylized.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heatwave name drops Livewire and the Gazzo mod family. Both of whom I've talked about here and here respectively
Tumblr media
Heatwave has been running away from Deathstroke here who has been taking our her crew. Notice that Slade Wilson doesn't have the half black half orange helmet yet that almost every Deathstroke depiction always has.
Tumblr media
He, Amanda Waller, and the General who I totally think is General Sam Lane, Lois's dad, are fans of DBZ cuz of the scouters they're wearing.
Tumblr media
Later in the scene we see the General again he's totally General Sam Lane. I'll talk more about him when we get a double confirmation through a name drop/reveal in a later post calling Amanda Waller, Mandy. What a fucking bold thing to say to Waller! Like damn! power move right there!
Tumblr media
Superman and Deathstroke are fighting under a highway and we see the traffic is heading to Bludhaven!
Tumblr media
Very good reference to my favorite character in all of pop culture, Dick Grayson aka Nightwing. Nightwing makes Bludhaven his city to protect. The city makes its first appearance in Nightwing #1 (1996) (the panel here - W: Chuck Dixon, P: Scott McDaniel, I: Karl Story, C: Roberta Tewes, L: John Costanza). Fun Bludhaven fact, its crime rate is WORST than Gotham! Also HIGHLY recommend reading the new Nightwing run cuz its fucking amazing! Won a few Eisner Awards (think the Oscars but for comic books) recently and I am not just saying that because I am a Dick Grayson fan.
Tumblr media
Near the end of the episode, we see Lois willing to jump off a building to prove that Clark is Superman. A lot of discourse was happening online over this, but I do want to say this is pretty on brand for her to do.
Tumblr media
In Superman II, Lois does something similar and Clark saves her. its just in MAwS, Clark flies to save her thus ruining the secret identity, while in Superman II, Clark does save her but he is still able to get away with it thanks to him playing it more subtly.
Don't know why people we're in such a fucking fit over something that Lois has done before.
Tumblr media
In the after credits scene, Jimmy, who planned a sasquatch finding adventure with Lois and Clark, but they were dealing with their shit and Jimmy was by himself, decides to do the finding on his own and meets a giant gorilla. In the first episode Jimmy mentions an intelligent gorilla in France and my guess is this is Monsieur Mallah. You can read more about him here. If you made it this far down, I appreciate you taking the time to check this post out and if you want to see my other MAwS Easter Eggs posts - Episode 1 is here
Episode 2 is here
Episode 3 is here
Episode 4 is here
Episode 6 is here
Episode 7 is here and here
Episode 8 is here
Episode 9 is here
Episode 10 is here
Trick or treat :)) Coldflash, please :))
okay. so. it was supposed to be 500 words and it may or may not have ended up as 4.6k... anyway, hope you like it!
here's the ao3 link or you can read it here on tumblr
So Long, Scarlet Speedster - 4.6k
The first time Len met Barry, he was eight years old. He was nursing a bruise on his right side and a black eye. He told his teacher it was from playing baseball with his dad.
His father had come home from work in a sour mood that day and was drinking himself through a six-pack while going over plans for his next score.
Len slipped out the back door and made his way across their small backyard, coming to a stop in front of a large tree. He placed his hands against the rough bark and traced the cracks with his fingers. They were like little paths connecting everything together, but leading far, far away.
There was a sharp noise, and the smell of ozone singed Len’s nostrils. He turned around and found himself looking up at a tall man in a bright red superhero suit. He gasped in surprise as the man frantically looked around, eyes finally landing on the small child. He squatted down in front of Len and offered him a smile.
“Hey there,” the man began in a voice kinder than Len had ever heard, “What’s your name?”
“Leonard,” he said quietly. Something on the man’s face changed at that moment. His eyes focused as if he was seeing the kid for the first time.
“Leonard Snart?” the man asked. Len nodded and watched many emotions he didn’t fully understand yet flash across this man’s eyes. Then, he saw the man’s gaze linger on his black eye. Finally, with a hardened look, he asked, “What happened, Len?”
“My dad and I were- I mean…” Len tried to rattle off the story his father had made him practice, but for some reason, he felt compelled to tell this man the truth. It was those eyes, so green and bright. So kind. So understanding. It reminded Len of his mom.“It’s from my dad.”
The man nodded slowly, then took a deep breath.
“Len, how old are you?”
“I’m eight.”
“I made it back over forty years?” the man breathed out incredulously. “I never thought-” he cut himself off. He shifted his focus back to the young boy in front of him. “How would you feel if I told you that one day it all gets better?”
“Better?”
“One day,” the man continued, “You’ll be a very powerful and smart man, with lots of people around you who care about you very much.” He leaned forward and whispered, “And your dad won’t be around anymore.”
“He won’t?” Len said shakily.
“Nope,” the man said with a pop of his lips, “And you’ll be just fine.”
“Are you a superhero?” Len blurted out. He had been trying to hold it in, but he simply had to know.
“Something like that,” the man said with a lopsided grin. “And one day you will be too. You’ll make it through all of this and you’ll be great. Until then, take care of yourself, Len.”
And just like that, the man vanished, leaving Len alone in the yard. He waited for a few minutes, hopeful that the strange man might return.
He didn’t return for five more years.
Len was thirteen and trying to disarm an alarm system inside of the museum his father was attempting to rob. His small hands worked quickly, rewiring the system before his father accidentally triggered the alarm.
He was nearly finished, when suddenly there was a loud crash outside. He glanced up at the back exit that led to the rear parking lot, and back at the main door that led into the museum. He could hear the soft squeaking of his father’s shoes against the tile floor and he focused his attention on the wires once more.
There was a second, more muffled crash, followed by some groaning. Len finished with the last wire and slowly crept towards the exit. He grabbed a box lying near the back door to use as a prop for the door. He pushed the door open slowly and peered out into the night air.
There was a man lying in a heap of cardboard boxes next to the dumpster. He was struggling to stand up when a small hand appeared above him.
“Need a hand?” Len asked.
The other man gaped up at him. Then, he took the hand.
Len heaved him up with surprising strength, and when the man was brought into the light it was Len’s turn to gape.
“Len?” the man asked cautiously.
“I thought I made you up,” Len said mostly to himself.
“What year is it?” the man asked.
“It’s ‘85,” Len answered. He took a step back and sized up the man dressed head to toe in what looked like red leather. “What’s your name?”
“You remember,” the man said, a small smile curling on his lips.
“You’re hard to forget,” Len shot back. “But I never got your name.”
The man considered this for a moment, looking around at the backside of the museum and the vacant employee parking lot.
“I’ll tell you my name if you tell me why you’re here,” the man said playfully.
“I’m robbing the museum with my dad,” Len said with no hesitation. The man gaped at him.
“Why would you admit that to a stranger-” he was cut off by Len.
“Something tells me you’re in a hurry. Figured you wouldn’t have enough time to rat us out.”
“Your puns are even insufferable when you’re a child,” the man groaned. Then he took a few steps and crossed the distance between the two of them. He pulled down his cowl, revealing a mop of brown hair and piercing green eyes. “Barry Allen,” he said as he reached forward and offered his hand.
Len shook it firmly and smiled.
“Well, I better get back inside before my dad realizes I’m missing,” Len said. “Wouldn’t want to make him mad.”
Barry nodded and pulled his cowl back up.
“I better get back too,” Barry agreed.
“Back to where?” the kid asked suspiciously. A mischievous glint flashed across Barry’s eyes.
“Bye, Len.”
With that he was gone, leaving a trail of red and yellow light in his wake. Len stared at the spot where the man had just been standing and saw a light scorch mark on the pavement. Then, he took a deep breath and headed back into the museum.
When Len was fifteen his sister was born. It didn’t matter that they had different mothers, when Lisa came into his life he finally felt he had a purpose.
Lewis would get nasty when Lisa cried. He’d yell at her mom and Len to shut her up before he had to. She was just an infant, and Len would already do anything to keep Lewis away from her.
On nights when Lewis was out drinking with his cop buddies and Lisa was put to bed early, Len would go out and sit on the back porch. He enjoyed the evening air whipping through his short hair. It was the only time he felt at peace.
He would watch the tree in their backyard sway against the breeze and wondered when the breeze would carry that odd man back into his life.
Len was seventeen, freshly released from juvie, walking home with nothing but the clothes on his back. His house was a few hours' walk from the detention center, and Len knew Lewis wasn’t going to come and pick him up. He was walking through one of the nicer suburbs when he heard a friendly voice call out.
“Need a ride?”
Len whipped around, and there he was, just standing on the side of the road in broad daylight where anyone could see his outlandish getup.
“Barry,” Len said in disbelief.
“Len,” Barry said with a smirk. “What year is-”
“1989,” Len answered before he could finish the question. Barry stared at him for a moment before he finally formed his next question.
“How did you know-”
“You’re from the future, aren’t you?” Len asked casually. Barry’s mouth was agape at this point. Then, he started laughing.
“Only you would figure that out so fast. You’re always so quick on the draw, Len,” Barry said easily. Len stored this information away for later.
“I’m guessing I can’t ask you anything about the future, the law of causality, and all that?”
“I’m impressed, you know your stuff.”
“Got a lot of reading done in juvie,” Len said.
“Wait- if it’s ‘89, then… You’re freshly out of juvie aren’t you?”
“On my way home now,” Len replied, gesturing to the road ahead. Barry considered this for a moment before he stepped closer to Len.
“Well, since you told me something, I guess it’s only fair I tell you something,” Barry explained, a small smile playing across his lips.  He took another step closer, coming into Len’s space.
Normally, Len would bristle and steel himself, ready to rear a fist back and connect it with the jaw of whatever idiot risked getting that close to him. Normally, his instincts would take over and he’d take a step back.
But right now they were the farthest from normally that Len had ever been.
“I’ll show you a secret,” Barry whispered.
“Don’t you mean tell me-” Len was cut off by the feeling of being pulled into Barry’s arms and, for lack of a better term, whisked away. For a brief moment, he was surrounded by streaks of light, tinged in reds and yellows as the world spun around him in a breathtaking kaleidoscope of colors. Then, in the blink of an eye, it was over. His feet were gently set under the ground beneath him. When he looked around he realized they were on the side of his house, tucked under a window, hidden in the shadows where no one would see them. He rounded on Barry.
“I knew it! You’re a fucking superhero,” Len whispered excitedly. Barry took a moment to pull his cowl down, shaking his hair from side to side and running his hands through it a few times.
“You were right from the start,” He confirmed. Len couldn’t help but grin. Barry’s face reflected his own for a moment, but it quickly fell. He took a step back and scratched his neck absentmindedly.  “But I’ve already been here too long.”
“I get it,” Len said, nodding, “Can you tell me something?”
“Depends.”
“Lisa, does she… is she okay? When you’re from?” Len asked in hushed tones. Barry’s eyes softened, and his hand fell onto Len’s shoulder.
“She’s alright.”
Len gave him a tight nod and felt a deep pressure in his chest finally release. Barry squeezed his shoulder lightly, then stepped away letting his hand fall back to his side.
“Well, you should probably get back,” Len said.
“You know, you’re taking this really well, all things considered,” Barry added.
“I like to keep an open mind,” Len offered casually. Barry chuckled and took a step back, fixing his cowl back into place.
“Glad to know you never change. Now, I have to run, no pun intended,” Barry amended quickly. Len chuckled.
“I’ll see you later, Barry.”
Later turned out to be five years. Len was in the middle of a jewelry heist, one of his first missions where he was running point and not taking orders from some meathead calling all the shots. They had just secured the cargo and were loading it into their getaway vehicle when it happened.
One minute Len was slamming the back door of the van shut, and the next he was being slammed up against a wall. He took one look at the man before him, clad in head-to-toe red leather.
“Snart,” Barry practically snarled at him.
“Barry,” Len started in a friendly tone, “Funny seeing you here.”
Barry flung himself backward as if Len had stung him. He sized Len up, eyes raking up his body and lingering on his hair. Len’s brows furrowed.
“Is everything alright, Barry?” Len said cautiously. Barry took a tentative step forward.
“How do you know my name, Snart?”
“What do you mean? You told me,” Len said, thoroughly confused.
“I haven’t even told Iris-” Barry said, abruptly stopping mid-sentence. Len put a hand out in a calming gesture and took a step forward.
“You haven’t met me yet, have you?” he asked.
“I’ve met you, Snart. Just not-”
“Yet,” Len finished for him. “This is your first time isn’t it?” Len said incredulously.
“First time for what?” Barry asked carefully.
“It’s 1994,” Len said with a note of satisfaction in his voice. Barry stared at him for a long moment before ducking his head and peeling off his cowl. He ran a hand through his hair and dragged it down over his face, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“This is so not how I thought it would go when I made it over two decades back,” he said, exasperated. Len considered these words and watched as Barry’s hand fell away from his face. He looked young.
“How old are you, Barry?”
“I’m- I shouldn’t tell you that,” Barry exclaimed, nearly slapping a hand over his mouth as if to stop the words from escaping. Len put up his hands innocently.
“I won’t make you, but I do have to say you have impeccable timing.”
“What do you mean?” Barry asked.
“I’m kind of in the middle of something right now, aside from being slammed into the wall by a man clad in red leather.”
A light flush crept up Barry’s neck and dusted his cheeks.
“You mean the robbery,” Barry stated. Len shrugged and took a step closer.
“You’re not here to lecture me on ethics, are you, Scarlet? I think we both know that would be a waste of time,” Len slipped out smoothly. He took another step forward and sized Barry up, tilting his head appreciatively as he met Barry’s eyes and watched the blush deepen. “Besides, you know you can’t meddle with the past. That’s time travel basics.”
“I’ve already said too much, done too much, I should-”  he shook his head and pulled his cowl back up.
“Leaving so soon?” Len teased. Barry looked up at him, blush still visible under the mask.
“Sorry, I’ve gotta run,” he said with a slight smirk. Len snorted and gave him a wave.
“Until next time, Barry,” Len said with a wave of his hand. Then, Barry was gone.
Six years passed before Len found himself landed behind bars again.
“Henry, meet your new roomie,” the guard said, nudging Len into the cell. He held out his hand.
“Leonard Snart,” he said not unkindly.
“Henry Allen,” the middle-aged man offered, reaching forward to shake Len’s hand. Len took it and shook it firmly. The guard nodded and left.
“So, what landed you here, Allen?” Len asked conversationally.
“They say I murdered my wife,” Henry started softly, “The only one who believes I didn’t do it is my son, Barry.”
Len felt his heart stop. Henry Allen, the name had been plastered on the front page of every newspaper and news channel in Central City over the past few months, His name, along with his wife’s name, Nora, were known by nearly everyone in the city at this point.
It seemed that somehow the articles had left out one key detail: their son. Someone had paid to keep his name out of the papers, that much was certain. And it was just Len’s luck that he would end up cellmates with the time traveler’s father.
“Did you do it?” Len asked. Henry blinked, his eyes searching Len’s face.
“No, not that it matters,” he sighed.
“Now you have two people who believe you,” Len said, stepping forward to give the man a pat on the shoulder. Henry relaxed and gave Snart a small smile.
“What landed you in here, Snart? Or should I even ask?”
“It’s probably better if you don’t.”
“Well now I have to know,” Henry joked. Snart looked around the cell and took stock of his new temporary home. His eyes circled back around to Henry.
“Just a couple charges of armed bank robbery and killing a few of Santini’s goons. Nothing too exciting,” Len assured him.
“The men you killed - they were criminals too?” Henry asked. Len nodded.
“They had gang tattoos that tallied their kill counts at over twenty each, and I may or may not have had a chat with the drug dealers that hang out around the high schools.”
Henry laughed and took a seat on his bed.
“I think we’ll get along just fine, Leonard.”
“Please, call me Len.”
Len didn’t stay in jail for long before Mick broke him out. He offered to take Henry with him, but the man made it clear he didn’t want to end up on the front pages a second time.
“Barry’s been through enough,” he said tiredly. Len understood.
“If you ever change your mind, I’ll come back for you,” Len promised.
“Just… be good, Snart. I know you have it in you. Don’t let the darkness in your life snuff out what little light you have left. If you do… they win. And something tells me you don’t like losing.”
“I can’t change who I am, Allen,” Len reasoned.
“You don’t have to,” Henry stated. Len gave him a curt nod.
“I’ll see you later, Doc,” Len said before disappearing into the night.
Two years later, Len found himself eating lunch at the bar in the Motorcar while surveying the Precinct. The diner was empty for all but him and an elderly woman savoring her cup of hot coffee by the window. He was about to take a bite of his burger when the little bell above the door jingled.  Len looked over his shoulder and couldn’t help the smirk that spread across his face.
“Long time no see, Barry,” he called to the man, turning on his stool to face him. He was dressed casually, no super suit this time, just blue jeans and a red t-shirt tucked under a brown leather jacket. When his eyes met Len’s a warm smile spread across his face.
“Len,” he said in a soft tone. He crossed the distance between them and wrapped him in a warm hug.
“Good to see you too, Scarlet,” Len said stiffly. He forced his arms to cooperate and awkwardly patted Barry on the back. When the younger man pulled away, Len nodded to a corner booth. They both made their way over to it, Len bringing his food with him. They sat down and Len pushed the basket of fries towards Barry, who accepted them happily and began digging in.
“Thanks,” Barry said around a mouthful of fries.
“Anytime,” Len said easily. He watched Barry for a moment before following suit and digging into his burger. The two ate in companionable silence for a few minutes, glancing out the window to watch the people rushing back to work as their lunch hour ended.
“To what do I owe the pleasure?” Len asked after he had finished his burger and wiped his mouth off with a napkin.
“I was in the neighborhood,” Barry offered.
“So you just decided to pop in and pay a visit to your favorite criminal?”
“Something like that,” Barry said with a stupid lop-sided grin. He leaned forward. “Gotta get my energy back before I head home.”
“And when is home?”
“Don’t you mean where-”
“No, no I don’t,” Len corrected him. He raised an eyebrow. Barry shook his head and let out a small laugh.
“Always one step ahead,” he mumbled. Len grinned.
“So, what’s the real reason you’re back in 2002, Barry?”
“I have some… business to take care of,” he admitted.
“Business? Do tell,” Len said, taking a drink of his sweet tea. He set it back on the table and left his hand next to it, running his fingers along the glass.
“You know I can’t.”
“Can’t blame a guy for trying.”
Len watched Barry’s face as the younger man gazed out the window. He seemed a couple of years older than the last visit, smile lines a little deeper, attention more focused.
“Listen,” Barry said, focusing his attention back on Len. He reached across the table and took Len’s hand in his own. “I know I shouldn’t be here. I just- I needed to see you again. It’s been-” he looked away, blinking rapidly to stop the tears welling up in his eyes.
“What do you mean?” Len asked, feeling as though he had missed something. Something big. Barry offered him a watery smile.
“It’s just good to see you, Len,” he said, voice slightly raw. He ran his thumb over the back of Len’s hand and gave it one final squeeze before he stood up. “Be good,” he added. Len couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled up in his chest.
“Your father said the same thing to me,” Len said, tone playful, “Right before I broke out of prison.”
“You’ve met my dad?” Barry squeaked.
“We were cellmates,” Len added casually. Barry dragged a hand through his hair and let out a sigh.
“Of course you were. The universe loves to play twisted ironic games with my life,” Barry ground out. Len stood and offered him a pat on the shoulder.
“I could say the same thing.”
Barry stared at him for a long moment, before bridging the gap and pulling Len into a tight hug once more. This time, Len hugged back.
“Don’t do anything stupid, alright?” Barry whispered softly. Len gave him a light squeeze.
“I’ll try my best,” he agreed. Barry pulled back just a fraction and kissed Len’s cheek softly.
Len didn’t have time to process it before Barry was out the door. He lifted his hand to his cheek and stared out the big glass windows, watching everyone else go about their normal lives.
Over a decade went by in a flash of sporadic crimes and prison breaks. Len was no longer just a petty thief, he had made a name for himself in Central City. He was the head of his own operation, ordering his highly trained teams to help him carry out his missions.
They had their sights set on a transport moving a costly collection of original paintings - more than a few of which Len had been hoping to snatch to use as home decor for his safe houses.
He was on his motorcycle, approaching the transport from the left, when suddenly the wind whipped around him and he found himself standing atop a building. He nearly lost his footing and flung out his arms, grabbing the nearest thing to stabilize himself.
As it turned out, the nearest thing was a man in a red leather superhero suit.
“Barry,” Len said breathlessly. His grip on Barry’s shoulder tightened, and he pulled the taller man into a tight hug.
“Len - uh, good to see you too,” Barry said as his arms slowly found their way to Len’s back. He hugged the man uncertainly. Len could feel the tension in Barry’s shoulders and pulled away.
“What brings you to 2014?” he asked, taking a hard look at Barry. There was a trace of confusion that flitted across his face, that, combined with the awkward hug, gave Len all the information he needed.
“I can’t tell you that,” Barry said slightly scandalized. He took a step back and raked his eyes over Len. “But you know that already.”
“Guilty as charged,” Len said, putting up his hands in defense. “Can’t blame a guy for trying.”
“What are you playing at, Snart?”
“Back to last names, are we, Allen?”
“Just answer my question.”
“Not until you answer mine.”
“There’s a- look, it’s complicated, and I don’t have the time for this,” Barry huffed.
“But you had time to stop me in the middle of a job?” Len pointed out. Barry smirked.
“I always have time to fight crime.”
Len rolled his eyes and stepped forward into Barry’s space once more.
“Let’s cut to the chase, Scarlet. You just can’t leave me alone,” he said, tapping his finger against Barry’s lightning symbol on his chest. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were obsessed with me.”
Barry flushed, ripping off his cowl and grabbing Len’s finger.
“Listen, Snart, as long as you are here committing crimes I will be here to stop you.”
“That’s what I’m counting on,” he said, a little too pleased with himself. Barry sputtered for a moment, the red flush deepening on his cheeks. Len slowly reached his hand up to Barry’s face and cupped it gently, Barry’s hand still cupping his own. “So, when will I see you again?”
“Soon enough.” Barry leaned away from the touch and tried to take a step back. He lost his footing and tumbled backward. Before he could hit the ground, swift hands caught him, looping under his back and head.
Barry looked up into Len’s eyes and felt his heart stop. The piercing blue felt like it cut straight through him and peered into every corner of his soul. He opened his mouth to say something, but it died on his tongue. With one fluid motion, Len pulled him back upright. He dusted off Barry’s shoulder and offered him a small pat.
“Until then,” Len said.
“Behave yourself, Snart.”
“If I behaved I wouldn’t get to see you falling all over yourself for me,” he replied smoothly.
“I- I go after every criminal, not just you!”
“And here, I thought it was always personal for us. You sure know how to make a man feel special.”
“We are not doing this right now,” Barry said with a shake of his head. He pulled his cowl back up and turned to walk to the edge of the roof. “I’ll see you around,” Barry said, hesitating for a moment.
“The least you could do is give me a lift, Barry,” Len called out.
“In your dreams, Snart,” Barry called over his shoulder, then he plunged off the side of the roof and disappeared into the night air.
Central City had never been the same after the particle accelerator explosion. It caused a rippling effect that touched every corner and dark alley within the city. The streets were now the playground for a red streak, racing through to stop crimes and save lives.
A red streak that looked awfully familiar to Len.
He had a plan that had been in the works for months, and he didn’t plan on postponing it just for the friendly neighborhood superhero.
“Alright boys, we’re going over the plan one last time,” Len started, turning to the small team sitting around the warehouse. “There’s a big museum exhibit opening this month. The main exhibit is a nearly priceless jewel known as the Kahndaq Dynasty Diamond. And our plan is to snatch it before it ever gets there.”
Everyone nodded along as Len went through the excruciatingly detailed plan and three backup plans. After everyone knew what their job was, they headed home for the night to get a good night’s rest before an early morning robbery.
Len was left alone in the warehouse, and he walked himself up onto the roof to look out over the city. It was a surprisingly good vantage point that gave Len eyes on every major road around him.
In the dim glow of the city at night, he could see trails of red streaking up and down the streets. He couldn’t help but smile.
“See you soon, Barry.”
5 + 1 Fic Friday Roundup: Is Anyone Going to Adopt that Kid?
Some adoption and/or found family stories.
Judgement and Justice (AO3) - "Hitoshi Shinsou is surrendered to foster care by his single mother at the age of five. At the age of six, he decides to run away with his 'villainous' foster brother. From there, we meet a runaway Todoroki with projection issues to rival a Trans Siberian Orchestra concert, a tired analyst in a questionable government organization trying to figure out just who needs to get fired and where, a panicking Pro Hero trying to locate his son, who wasn't supposed to be in foster care in the first place, and a very, very annoyed underground hero who's going to steal a child from SOME hero, one way or another."
Crash Into Me (AO3) - "Kara is cold and scared and her little baby cousin Kal-el won't stop wiggling, but they have no choice but to keep moving or the DEO, the government entity that captured them shortly after they crashed on this planet, will catch them and punish them for trying to escape. And then Leonard Snart and Mick Rory, driving by, very nearly crash into her life."
The Children of Ullia (AO3) - "In a time where Aloy accepted Ullia's offer to take her as a daughter, Ullia had already taken one child of the East to be her own. A young man she met in Sunstone Rock."
Proud Immortal Parent's Way (AO3) - "A story in which Shang Qinghua gets the chance to raise the protagonist from square one! This causes a lot of things that never made it to the final draft of PIDW! And now there was a bunch of family drama in the Mobei Clan and some drama with Huan Hua that he and Binghe got dropped into, but hey, at least he wasn't going to be a scum villain anymore. And the cute baby is a plus!"
dry as a bone (AO3) - "Din Djarin didn’t set out to build a clan, but the child cooed and whined and telekinetically shoved their way into his heart. A clan of two is more than enough to fill that old bounty hunter’s heart, even if the womp rat doesn’t exactly take up much space. Said womp rat isn’t the only kid with special abilities, though, and every child deserves a chance to grow up safe and loved."
Bonus: Dad Bane AU (AO3) - "When Cad Bane is rescued from an ambush by a small Twi'lek street urchin, he does not foresee how much their meeting will change his life."
Relationship: Coldflash Rating: Teen (some sexual content, no smut) Chapters: 1/? Summary: Shortly after Barry is struck by lightning, Iris discovers that not only does he have a secret boyfriend, but that boyfriend is Leonard Snart, a notorious thief. She learns to trust him, however, as they both begin looking into Dr. Wells for Barry's sake. Over the nine months that Barry's asleep, their team grows and they discover more frightening details about the man who was currently keeping Barry alive. Together, they have to figure out the whole truth and make a plan to keep Barry safe before Dr. Wells catches onto them, or there will be no stopping him...
Excerpt below:
Iris hadn’t slept much but as she made her way to Barry’s hospital room, she was encouraged that the lights were on. That meant that Barry’s condition was currently stable, though it was still a mystery why it would affect the building’s power in the first place whenever he flatlined. The doctors didn’t understand it either, but they were too busy trying to keep Barry alive, as well as all the other people who were affected by the particle accelerator explosion.
She paused outside Barry’s room and looked down the hallway, considering a quick trip to the vending machine for a coffee. Barry was stable at this moment, though, and she didn’t want to miss her chance to check in on him, so she turned and opened the door to Barry’s room. If only there was something she could do to help besides holding his hand and crying. She hated feeling so useless.
When she entered Barry’s room, however, someone was already there, holding his hand. He was dressed in scrubs, but she’d never seen him before on that floor, and she was there so much, she knew pretty much the entire staff. Not only that, but the man didn’t seem to be taking Barry’s pulse. He was just holding Barry’s hand, talking softly.
She walked further in, gripping the strap of her purse. “Hello?”
The man was up in an instant, clearing his throat. “Sorry, Miss. Just checking on the patient,” he said. His voice was distinctive, with a bit of a drawl. She definitely would have remembered him.
Slowly, Iris lowered her purse to her elbow, ready to reach inside. She always carried pepper spray with her, and she wouldn’t hesitate to blast the stranger in the face if he even looked at her wrong.
“Who are you?” she asked as steadily as she could. “You’re not a nurse.”
The corner of his mouth twitched. “No, I’m not. I don’t mean any harm, though. I’ll just be on my way.”
“I don’t think so,” she said, reaching into her purse. “Tell me why you’re here with my brother.”
“Just relax, Miss. Barry and I are… old friends.”
“Yeah? What’s your name?”
He didn’t answer right away, his eyes trailing down to her hand embedded in her purse. She was trying to be subtle, but she was struggling to find the small canister of pepper spray amidst her keys, pens, and packs of gum.
“It’s Lenny.”
“I’ve never heard Barry mention you.”
“Well, there’s a reason for that.”
She shook her head. “No way. I’m not just Barry’s sister, I’m his best friend. He would have told me about you.”
Lenny, as he called himself, tilted his head. “You sure about that? And what about you? You don’t have any secrets from him? He knows every single one of your friends?”
“He… I—" she started, but she had to admit that there were some friends she’d had in college that she never told her dad or Barry about. Still, that was her, not Barry. He wasn’t the type to keep secrets, and Lenny wasn’t even their age. He was at least a decade older than them, maybe even two.
“Alright, this is what we’re going to do,” she said, regaining her composure. “You’re going to sit down, and you’re going to tell me exactly how you know Barry.”
“Or what?”
“Or I call security, and my dad. He’s a detective for the CCPD.”
To her surprise, he chuckled. “Yeah, I know. I’ve met your father before.”
“So, he knows that you’re friends with Barry?”
“Nope, and I’d like to keep it like that. Alright, Miss West, I’ll play along,” he said, sitting back down. “But for Barry’s sake, I hope you consider keeping this a secret from the good detective.”
“Doubtful, but we’ll see,” she said, slowly sitting on the other side of Barry’s bed.
“Listen, I’ll tell you our story, but could you not pull out that pepper spray in your purse? Barry could get caught in the stream of it. Just throw the chair at me or one of those tools on that cart beside you if you feel that it’s necessary.”
Iris stiffened and glanced at Barry. She’d used pepper spray before, and she knew he was right; Barry would definitely get caught in the mist and he couldn’t even run away. She let go of the canister and set her purse on the floor.
Taking his advice, she glanced over the cart next to her and found some delightfully sharp instruments just sitting there, so she chose one and kept it in her hand. As she turned back to Lenny, he didn’t seem worried, not with the way he was smirking. The amusement, however, didn’t reach his eyes.
The more she looked, she could see the dark circles under his eyes that were identical to hers. It was possible that he was worried about Barry, but she needed to hear some facts before she believed him.
“Okay, tell me,” she said, lifting her chin. “Tell me how you know Barry.”
He took a deep breath and sat back in his chair. He propped one of his feet up on his knee and rested his hands on his leg, clasped together. It gave Iris the feeling that this wasn’t going to be a quick story and she had to admit, she was intrigued.
“My name, Miss West, is Leonard Snart, and I’m a professional thief.” As she stiffened, he waved her off. “Relax, you’re not in any danger from me. Sure, if you look up my record, you’ll know that I’ve killed a couple of people in the past, but that was a long time ago and it was never without reason. But I’d never do that now.”
“How can I believe that?”
His eyes shifted to Barry and his expression softened. “Because, once upon a time, a sassy little boy challenged me. He said that if I was such a good thief, I should be able to do it without hurting anyone. So, that’s what I did.”
He’s known Barry that long, she wondered in disbelief.
Leonard didn’t turn back to her, but his smile widened slightly as he began his story.
“I was doing some time in Iron Heights for petty theft when Henry Allen was arrested for the murder of his wife. You hang around a place like that, you get a second sense of who was actually innocent, and it didn’t take a genius to know that Allen was no murderer. He was grieving for his wife and for not being able to be there for Barry, yet he was still kind and helpful to everyone around him. Patched me up from a fight once. He’s a good guy.”
“So, you believe him?” she asked skeptically. “You believe that Nora was killed by a super fast guy that made lightning?”
Leonard glanced back at her. “Look, you live in your own pretty little world curated by a sheltering father. It’s not bad that he protected you, but there’s a lot of stuff out there you’re ignorant of. I’ve seen and heard a lot in my years, and Barry’s story about his mother’s real murderer isn’t the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. But that’s not what this is about, and if we get into that, you’re not going to find out how I met Barry.”
Iris huffed, but she gestured for him to continue. “Go on, then.”
“To understand why meeting Barry was so poignant to me, I have to give you a little background. My dad was a cop, too, but he was a dirty one. He got arrested when I was little for stealing an emerald, and when he got out, he wasn’t the man he used to be. The only good thing he did after that was father my sister, but he was… cruel.
“Luckily, he wasn’t around much when I was arrested, so Lisa, who was a teenager back then, was being looked after by friends of the family. They were begrudging and not especially kind, but they didn’t hurt her, kept her fed, and kept her in school, so that was good enough for us. She came in to visit me every week, and it killed me to see her so dull and quiet.”
Leonard looked at Barry again and smiled. “Then one day, I came into the visitation room and saw Lisa on the other side of the glass…”
My headcanons about the child of the Coldflash
Part 1/? (English version)
- They didn't take a kid from an orphanage or off the street like a stray puppy (because that's too boring aha). What if instead SPEEDFORCE JUST GIFTED THEM A BABY ABOUT EARLY FIVE YEARS OLD AND WAS LIKE, "RAISE HIM, YOU'RE FATHERS NOW, GOOD LUCK!!!"
- Barry and Len received no further instructions, only a boy who had facial features similar to both of them, but had Len's blue eyes and Barry's unruly brown hair
- The boy was named Michael (yes, I love Prison Break)
- Team Flash and the Rogue agreed that the situation was ridiculous, but they liked Michael so much that they quickly forgot about it and started cooing to him
- Michael was the reason Joe was able to finally accept Barry's relationship with Snart. West even shook Len's hand and gave him some parenting advice
- Iris and Lisa argued over who would be the coolest aunt, but they never got the chance to explain to Michael that he should pick one of them. They eventually resigned themselves to a tie because Michael cried
- Mick taught Michael some bad words so he could stand up to bullies on the street. Barry and Len weren't impressed, but Mick was very proud of his "tough guy" attitude
- Cisco made Michael so many toys that Barry had to have a talk with him about it because there was literally no space left in their house to store them in
- Caitlin is always "treating" Michael's teddy bear when he gets "bear fever"
- Michael loves playing chess with Gideon and affectionately calls her "robo-sister"
- Michael didn't have any superpowers, but he was obviously too smart for his age and knew too much to be human (which is not surprising, since he's basically a demigod)
- Barry and Len decide to raise Michael like a normal kid, despite the fact that his parents are a superhero and a criminal mastermind (and also a divine force calling itself Speedforce)
- Leonard reads Michael a bedtime story and Barry sings lullabies
- Michael cried for a long time when they started teasing him at school for saying his dad was the Flash. Barry was ready to reveal his second identity to the world and Leonard literally wanted to go fight with the kids, but both eventually came to a more logical solution.They moved Michael to another school and explained to him why he needed to keep his dads second lives a secret
- Leonard and Michael often fall asleep on the couch together while watching cartoons. Barry thinks it's so cute, he's already taken a million pictures on his phone
- Barry and Michael often dance together to songs from old musicals and it's Len's time to take pictures
- Michael complains to everyone around him that "his dads kiss too much" and is surprised when he gets laughter and smiles instead of sympathy
- One day Michael asks Barry and Len why they aren't married like the other parents. They end up playing the wedding in the kitchen, using dried fruit instead of wedding rings. A week later, Len buys real rings
30, 31, 37 :D
30. Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn't
I have an old WIP about Lita being diagnosed with ADHD and Mick struggling to talk to her about it, because he’s never really accepted his own autism diagnosis. As I was writing it, this turned into a background-coldwave story where Lita and her dad go back in time and Lita meets Snart a few times without knowing it, undercover, and her dad only figures out who she was meeting right at the end, because he and Snart can’t meet face to face (something something time travel and destiny)… and as you can see there was *far* too much going on in that fic so I lost the thread. But I might revisit it and see if I can fix it. Maybe if I ever rewatch the Lita seasons of Legends.
I’ve been working on a Faith/Len thing (Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover) forever, where they’re friends with benefits who whine about the arsonist (and later the speedster) and Slayer they are totally not in love with, respectively, which may or may not see the light of day. That one is fun to mess with, when I’m in the mood for it.
There was also the one about masks - a collection of little episodes about why some of the Arrowverse characters do or don’t wear masks, which my therapist tried to make me finish when I was working on masking (the autistic kind) in therapy, and it was a lovely idea but god that fic did not work. I can’t find it in my WIPs now which is for the best :D
31. What was the most difficult fic for you to write (but in the end you made it)?
Usually it’s anything with Leonard Snart in. He is the worst to write (and yet I keep doing it). Moment of Truth was the most recent one that he made absolutely impossible - he was determined to be his worst self and be terrible to Mick and refuse to have feelings, the whole way through. I think it somehow turned out to be an okay fic despite this though :D
37. Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you?
I do when I need to, and it’s so boring. I now know more than I ever wanted to about cracking safes, picking locks and getting out of handcuffs*. I regret all my life choices in deciding I was going to write about the Rogues a lot.
*That turns out to be basically impossible, certainly not by dislocating your thumb/fingers, although that’s kind of how I ended up having Iris do it anyway (in An Honest Thief) because I wanted to use that hypermobile Iris headcanon and mere facts were not going to deter me from this goal.
Great Qs, thank you!! <3
🧡💚🖤💔🏳️‍🌈 for the Flash or Star Wars?
Under the cut for space
Flash
💛: What is a popular ship you just can't get behind, and why?
Coldflash (Barry Allen/Leonard Snart). Idk, it has all the ingredients of a ship that I really should be into, but I'm just... not. I think it's just that they're that really specific brand of "friendly rivals" that doesn't really excite me that much.
💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
It's apparently really hard to "get" Nora West-Allen's character if you didn't grow up in a single-parent household, never meeting your other parent. A lot of people say that she overreacted or that she was being irrational in her actions to try to save her dad from dying. Yeah, she did make some bad decisions, but she just wanted to know her dad. She just wanted to get to know him, because she had a frankly terrible life and she thought that maybe, if he was around, things could be better. Idk I have a lot of thoughts about her but she deserves her own post.
🖤: Which character is not as morally good as everyone else seems to think?
Caitlin Snow. Because she's the token white woman of the main cast, a lot of people seem to uwu-ify her and make her into someone who can do no wrong. Really, Caitlin has willingly worked with a human trafficker and hid the fact that she had a murderous alternate personality from people who could help her with it, and the people who were put in danger because of it, for a really long time.
💔: If you had to remove one major character from the series, who would you choose?
Cecile Horton. Idk, she just bores me. She's an interesting character in the earlier seasons, but later on, her personality is just filed down to "empath".
🏳️‍🌈: Which character who is commonly headcanoned as queer doesn't seem queer to you?
They all seem like they're some flavor of LGBT+. However, with Caitlin Snow, people often headcanon her as bi or pan, but I see her as a-spec.
Star Wars:
💛: What is a popular ship you just can't get behind, and why?
Obikin. Even though I'm aware that they're both adults when most people ship it, I'm just not a huge fan of the power imbalance in there. It gives me this feeling of visceral disgust, and if I see it untagged that gets an instant block from me. Ship and let ship, I'm not going to give someone hate if they ship it, but that ship kinda grosses me out.
💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
REVA WAS A CHILD!!! SHE WAS A CHILD SUCKED INTO A BRUTAL CULT AND NO ONE WAS THERE FOR HER!!!! YES SHE DID BAD THINGS BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE HER A BAD PERSON! SHE WAS TRYING TO SURVIVE!!!! (also she's honestly one of the best most compelling characters that Star Wars has put out since the Clone Wars ended and anyone who says otherwise clearly doesn't understand her character)
🖤: Which character is not as morally good as everyone else seems to think?
Padme. Again, sad dead white woman can do no wrong. She was ready to stay with Anakin, to try to bring him back to the light, even after finding out that he murdered his friends and massacred children.
💔: If you had to remove one major character from the series, who would you choose?
Kylo Ren. He really could have been interesting! He had so much potential! I was peak Reylo trash back when TLJ came out, but now? He got boring. There was potential there, but they just made him a generic conflicted sad bad boy.
🏳️‍🌈: Which character who is commonly headcanoned as queer doesn't seem queer to you?
General Hux. While I have enjoyed a few Huxlo fics in my time, I don't really see him as liking men, or he's just around the wrong type of men. MAYBE he'd be Bi with a very strong preference for women, a 0.1 on the Kinsey Scale, but I don't see him as being anything more than that.
Joe flr character bingo? 👀
Tumblr media
sorry anon i was outside in the garden planting raspberry bushes. anyway this is SUCH a good one and I am kinda mad there are so few squares I can tick off for Joe bc i genuinely love him but not like That
Joe is such a comfort character for me in a very diff way. he makes my daddy issues go brrrrr cos THIS is a dad. THE dad of all time. if i could pick any dad ever to have instead of mine i think i'd pick him.
I think he's so fucking funny first of all. it's my fave thing to put him in a fic and just. mess with him. im poking him with a stick. im watching his blood pressure go up. i'm making him deal with leonard snart and he's about to explode every time they're in a room together. i just. have so many affectionate feelings for him and his seething hatred of this man. and the earth 2 version where he's exactly like that but to BARRY? iconic. no notes. rip earth 2 joe you were a bitch and i miss you sm
THAT BEING SAID there are things about him that make me go "you should have faced more consequences for that. go sit in a corner and think about what you've done." namely bullying iris out of being a cop (acab etc. etc. but still shitty of him), the whole thing where he was like BARRY, WHY DIDN'T YOU ASK MY PERMISSION TO MARRY IRIS (and iris AGREED 🤮🤮🤮 who the fuck was in charge of the writers' room that day, i just wanna talk), the fact that he can be overbearing and controlling of his kids and very jaded in a lot of ways... idk he's a flawed character and every character needs some negative aspects so none of these things affect my love for him but sometimes i am shaking my head in disapproval...
as for canon. this is true of everything but MAN did they drop the ball with him towards the end... i get why they had joe quit ccpd given the political situation at the time and i support that 100% but first of all, having a Black character go "hey the police force in my city is inherently corrupt and i can no longer be complicit in its enforcement" (true and correct) while their white hero just does not acknowledge that corruption and continues to work for the same establishment completely uncritically was... perhaps not sending the message they intended... i mean it's honestly almost funny cos that is very much a reflection of the actual systems but. maybe they could have thought about that one a bit more...
and they really should have given joe something else to do cos he ended up sorta directionless after that. in fairness i know jesse l martin has back problems so i think them having him sitting down chilling at home as a stay at home dad was perhaps borne of necessity in a lot of ways but they defo could have done more interesting things with the character. im not OPPOSED to sahd joe but it does seem like a bit of a waste cos it would just be like. every episode joe shows up for a pep talk then goes back to being the full-time stay at home parent for a child we literally never see except one time when a window explodes in her face, which brings me to my NEXT point---
writing joe out with LITERALLY like 8 eps to go? stupid. again i respect that jesse l martin had HAD it with this show (tbf who hadnt by this point) and he wanted out, of course he had every right to do that, but purely based on the context of the show, i hate that they had him leave central city like that and move so far away when we were so close to the finish line. HAAATE it. the show was basically on life support from that point on. it was possibly worse than when we lost cisco. joe was the heart of it, man. it just wasn't the same :(
but yes I LOVE JOE, he is the only fictional dad i respect and i love ruining his life
That Rare Arctic Thunderstorm: Ch2 (on AO3)
FULL FIC LINK HERE
“I’d ask if you have room for dessert, slugger, but I already know the answer to that.”
Barry sped through rinsing dishes and putting the in the dishwasher, turning around just in time to find his dad pulling half a chocolate cake and a plastic container of familiar-looking jelly doughnuts out of the fridge. “Oh, wow… Missus B sent you a care package again?”
“Mike said it’s her subtle way of saying I need to come over for dinner again one of these nights,” Henry said, a warm smile on his face. He seemed lighter, younger somehow; he’d carried a quiet tension about his eyes and shoulders that had faded away as soon as he’d left the walls of Iron Heights. “He made a delivery to Joe’s for her the other day too, apparently.”
“Joe’s been doing extra work around the station while Eddie’s still on desk duty. I guess word got back to her about that. And I suppose that means she’s heard you’ve been buried in your books again.”
Barry was only half-teasing. His dad did have a social life, between Joe and the Birnbaums, and the rest of the older adults (it was still sometimes weird to think that) supporting the Flash’s vigilante activities. Still, Barry thought his dad spent more time studying than he himself had ever done for any of his degrees. The pile of medical textbooks and journals on the coffee table spoke volumes.
Those weren’t the only changes to what had once been Barry’s apartment. After six months, with the monetary compensation from the state, Henry had mostly refurnished the slapdash one-bedroom unit. There was a dining table with matching chairs now, and the number of book shelves had doubled. He’d gotten a brand-new couch, a plush teal one. He’d even talked the superintendent into upgrading the heaters into full HVAC units (a blessing since Barry wasn’t dealing too well with the ninety-degree temperatures just then). In the bedroom, the bedframe and the dresser drawers hadn’t been replaced, though Barry had insisted on getting Henry a new mattress.
Barry couldn’t even think of his dad lying on the same bed where he’d—nope, he was not going there. At all.[...]
Christmas wasn't a big celebration across the years for the Snart family. In Leonard's earlier years, when his father and mother used to be around the house, they would have a quiet dinner that would end up with Lewis passed out drunk at the couch and a pouty little boy that didn't once again get a gift from Santa.
When Lewis gets thrown into Iron Heights for five years, he draws him Christmas card but not even once he doesn't get an answer from his father. And when he returns Leonard's life becomes a nightmare. He doesn't even think about Christmas and what gift he was going to get and only prays that his dad would stop hitting him and his mother.
But right after their Christmas dinner in 1982; their first Christmas after Iron Heights, he gets the biggest gift any little boy could have asked for. Even though that his father took his Christmas card and threw it at the trash and when he asked about he got hit; the moment that his mother told him that he was going to have a little sister, Leonard forgot everything. The burning pain on his cheek, the tear stains and the sound of his father yelling for another beer at the distance. All the little ten year old could think of, was his little sister.
And in his first Christmas with baby Lisa, Leonard couldn't be more ecstatic. He adored his baby sister from the moment she was brought to his arms. She slept in the room across his, in her little crib, which his mother had bought after saving money through her whole pregnancy. But the joy of waking up and seeing his little sister in the house was cut short, when Lewis found out about Leonard, spilling milk on his blue prints. This day he had hit his son so hard that Leonard had landed on the floor with blood coming out of his nose and his baby sister's cries echoing.
From that year after Leonard lost the little Christmas spirit that he had in him. He tried to make Christmas an acceptable holiday for him and his sister, but whenever Lewis was home he couldn't. And when he and Lisa were left alone, they could barely manage to buy food and pay the bills.
When he and Mick had been recruited by Rip they couldn't really understand where they were in time, so they didn't celebrate. And after Leonard surviving the Oculus; Savage's defeat and the help to the Justice Society of America the legends were dropped back home.
Mick decided to return in Central City and not much to anyone's surprise; Sara decided to stay with Leonard in Central City too, after learning about her sister's death. January 2017 was full of many surprises for Leonard.
After leaving Rip and dropping Mick at the safehouse, he and Sara decided to go and see Lisa. She and Sara had met only once before, in July 2016 when the team settled for a few days. But no one could have prepared Leonard for what he was about to see and as the door opened to his childhood home, his baby sister with an evident baby bump.
Lisa's eyes widened and Leonard had literally frozen in front of her. Sara needed a little time to realize that she wasn't hallucinating, but after that she enveloped Lisa in a warm hug and dragged Leonard inside. He wasn't able to speak for over half an hour even when Lisa explained that was the handy work of Cisco Ramon and a big bottle of vodka.
Finally after Sara slapping the back of his head with force, he had looked at his baby sister and told her that if Ramon ever thought of hurting her or his future niece, he would ice him. Sara had just looked and smiled at how caring Leonard was. The months that followed though, Leonard became pretty happy and excited with the prospect of a niece.
In May 8th 2017 Lisa gave birth to a little girl named Lori Ramon and Sara swore she had never seen anything more beautiful than Leonard smiling down at a small baby in his arms. Cisco and Lisa couldn't be happier and both her and Leonard had scowled when Barry gave the baby a flash body suit as a gift.
Except of her uncle, baby Lori had a really big fondness on her uncle's girlfriend; which hair she enjoyed toying with. And it wasn't long, in October to be exact, until the girlfriend became a fiancé.
Both of them layed in their bed, wrapped in each other's arms when suddenly Leonard picked a red velvet ring box from the bedside table and gave it to Sara casually.
"Care to explain, Len?" she had asked him and he smiled at her. Leonard opened the box and revealed a diamond engagement ring.
"Will you do this crook the honor of being his forever officially, Sara?" he asked and her eyes widened. She had barely nodded, before Leonard wrapped his arms around her and she started laughing with pure happiness. And once he slipped the ring on her finger Sara never took it off. She ever made Leonard buy a dishwasher because she said that she would stop doing the dishes, not wanting to take the ring off. And he had just smiled and agreed.
The Christmas of 2017 was their first official Christmas since they were back from the Waverider and of course engaged. And it also was their first Christmas with Lori and they decided to gather together, only them and Mick. Unfortunately for Sara and fortunately for Leonard, Lisa had called and told him that Cisco was trying to stop a metahuman that killed young women with Barry and he wouldn't make it to the Christmas Eve dinner.
The doorbell rang for the first time around 9 P.M and it was almost certain that it was Lisa, because Mick was always late.
"Can you get that, Len?" Sounded Sara's voice from far down the hallway, somewhat harsher and different than usual. Once she shut the door, Leonard thought he heard something weird but he just brushed it off and opened the door to reveal his baby sister, with her own baby in her arms. Once Lori saw her uncle she started squealing in her mother's arm, as if to show how excited she was.
"Hello big brother." Lisa said as she walking in the cozy apartment and set the bags with the sweets on the kitchen island, before sitting on a stool with her daughter still in her arms. Lori started to move from Lisa and stretched out her arms to Leonard, who raised his eyebrow.
"How are you doing, little sis? Ramon is still the geek he was when I last saw him?" Leonard asked as Lisa passed him Lori who started squealing excitedly once she was in his arms and she mumbled incoherent words.
"Come on Lenny. Deep inside you know you love Cisco. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have Lori." She said and as if she had understood what they had said, the baby let out a happy screech.
Suddenly from the hallway, marched Sara with her blonde hair loose and in a pair of jeans and a cute burgundy sweater. Her face though, was paler than usual and she looked a little more tired. But the moment she saw Lori her face light up like the lights in their tree and she smiled brightly.
"Wait." Said Lisa and caused Sara to stop at her tracks. "Let me show you what she did. It's so crazy. Look." She scooped her from Leonard's grip and set her down at Lori down at the carpet before grabbing both of her hands. Both Sara and Leonard look confused at first, but as Lori slowly managed to stand up and she walked to Sara with Lisa's support they both smiled.
"Hey little one." Sara told her and brought Lori in her arms, balancing her in her hip. The little girl giggled as Sara kissed her head and moved to sit on the couch. She set Lori in her lap and smiled down at her, as she heard Lisa and Leonard arguing about who was going to cook after all.
They were interrupted by the doorbell ringing and Leonard opened the door, letting Mick inside the apartment, who held a bag of food in his broad arms. Leonard lifted an eyebrow and his usual smirk, soon rose to his face.
"Thank god this time you didn't kick the door open." Leonard said as Mick set the bags in the counter and began putting out the ingredients. Sara suddenly had a feeling that Mick wasn't going to let anyone else cook the Christmas dinner. He huffed at what his best friend said and continued laying the ingredients which Lisa inspected closely, as Sara had started to bounce Lori up and down with her hands causing her to giggle again.
"Happened only a few times, Boss. Stop exaggerating." Said Mick as he started cutting one of the carrots with a kitchen knife and Lisa was texting in her phone next to him. This time Sara decided to speak, being the one who had to clean up after Mick's mess.
"A few times, Mick?" questioned Sara and a smirk appeared on her face. "I am pretty sure that we spend everything you steal to fix over the things you break."
Mick continued cutting the carrots and Lisa could barely contain her laugther.
"Says the assassin who threw the remote inside the TV twice the last three months, only because the channel wouldn't change." He muttered and this time it was Leonard who laughed and Sara threw him a deadly glare.
After a few moments, Lisa came and sat next to Sara and Lori in the couch; leaving the two Rogues to continue their conversation about their next planned heist in Keystone City. Mick ended up cooking stuffed turkey and baked potatoes, which of course he mastered.
Even though the Rogue was really uncontrolled when it came to fire, the food he made sure was up to no comparison to what she and Leonard managed to cook once in a while. But out of the two of them, Leonard could manage to cook better food than Sara, who lost her temper and usually threw the pan against the wall. As she tasted Mick's amazing food again, Sara felt blessed to have invited him over.
"Mick, this chicken is to die for." Sara moaned and Leonard smirked down at her. Meanwhile, Lisa was trying calm down Lori and set her for a nap and the laughs from everyone was not helping the woman. "How do you manage to make it so good every time?"
"That's a secret." Mick told her and then turned to Leonard, who was almost done with his food. "So, what the hell is that meta-human Cisco and Allen are obsessing with?" Dinner went through without a hitch, something that didn't happen very often when the four of them were in the same room.
"Lisa, did Ramon pop the question, or he is too much of a coward to actually ask you?" asked Mick and Sara erupted in laughter as Leonard scowled. Lisa lifted her eyes from Lori and looked at Mick and then at Leonard.
"I think he is scared of Lenny." She said and a smile broke to her big brother's face. "For real. He used to be scared to even talk to him. After you learned that I was pregnant and Lenny didn't kill him, he knows that there is hope for him."
Sara smiled down at Lisa and there was even a hint of a smile on Mick's lips. Leonard might have been really annoyed at Cisco at the beginning; he still was a little, but ever since he saw his niece he had decided to let him a little of the hook until the next time a chance presented itself.
"I think that he will; sooner or later. I mean now that even you proposed to Sara, I can see that happening. Plus, you two have a kid together." Mick said and observed Sara, who toyed with her food awkwardly, not meeting anyone's eyes. There was something really wrong and he just needed to know. But inside him, he had a feeling that he would know pretty soon.
After many hours of talking and laughing, Mick, Lisa and Lori left, agreeing to meet over at Star Labs because Barry insisted that they all gathered together in Christmas. Finally, having tidied the dishes Leonard sat in the couch with Sara sitting in his lap with her legs sprawled and her hands around his neck.
"Sara?" Leonard asked and Sara softly hummed against his neck. She would have answered, but she felt so warm and safe in Leonard's arms. She lifted her eyes to look at him and he smiled down at her. "You know that it's after midnight, so practically it's Christmas. Happy birthday."
He leaned down and pressed his lips to her and felt the blonde smile to the kiss. Leonard didn't believe that he could have this amount of happiness in his life, even in his wildest dreams. He could have never imagined being so in love with a reincarnated assassin and be engaged to her. And as much as he wouldn't admit it, if it wasn't for Rip, he would have probably never met Sara. The two people that he owed this relationship to, were Laurel Lance and Rip Hunter. Weird.
"Thank you, Len." She answered and pressed her lips to him once again. "And since it's now Christmas, it's only right that I give you my gift." Leonard lifted an eyebrow and Sara knew the exact nature of his thought at that moment. She slid off of his lap and walked inside the hallway, only to return a moment later, with a lean box that fitted in Sara's hand.
She gave it to him and he stood up to look at her, confused. Okay, this couldn't be something big. He unwrapped the bow and looked up at Sara once last time, before opening it.
Inside layed a single pregnancy test. Leonard stopped moving as his eyes drifted to the panel which said: "Pregnant".
His eyes widened and when he met Sara's gaze her eyes were full of tears, some of which were already rolling down her cheeks.
"Are you..?" he managed to ask and all Sara could do was nod once. Sara was pregnant. She was pregnant with his child. Inside of her was his child. He was going to be a father. And then a smile broke in his face.
Sara sweared that that moment, she hadn't seen Leonard smile more brightly in his entire life. He set the box with the test at the sofa and took a step closer to Sara. Tears were still rolling down her cheeks and he brought his hands up to wipe them with his thumb. She looked at him, her blue eyes shining from the tears. Without a warning he lifted Sara in his arms and wrapped her in a hug, twirling her around as she laughed with pure happiness.
"We are going to have a baby." He whispered in the crook of her neck as he kissed her collarbone. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer to her body and smiling.
"We are." Sara whispered back and Leonard pulled back only to place his hand to her still-flat stomach.
"Sara." He said as he sat in the couch with his fiancé wrapped in his arms securely. She was looking at the Christmas tree, the bright light illuminating-their light solemnly lighting the both of them. "This is the best Christmas gift that you could have ever given me."
Next year, Leonard spent his Christmas day at home with his fiancé and his daughter in his arms and from that day, Leonard understood the meaning of Christmas.
Christmas meant hope; it had meant rebirth and a new life. And now Leonard had found it in his growing family.
THE END.
