Shoutout to my mom who let me dump a bunch of spoilers on her so I could cry about Neteyam. Finally had the chance to get all that sobbing that dehydration robbed me of yesterday out of my system, and I’m feeling a little better now. I mean, the situation still makes me sad, but I don’t think I’ll continue to have my eyes suddenly start leaking every other hour like they did for most of today. :’)

so uuuhhh now that I’ve more or less gotten over that hurdle, I can finally sit down and make a post about all the other stuff from the movie! So here’s a list of some of the other thoughts and observations I had, not exactly comprehensive cuz this is all coming after 24 hours of grieving so I may not remember every single little thought I had, but here we go anyways (also tagging @tenebrius-excellium cuz you said you wanted to hear my thoughts):

-I just want to watch the first five or so minutes on loop for a while (although maybe without the cuts to Neytiri singing the songcord because 🥲, good golly the moment I saw that shot I, already being familiar with the lore behind songcords, was like oh NOOOOO), just the scenes of those ~14 peaceful years where the kids are growing up and the RDA is gone and everyone is happy together and it’s all just so sweet, this is the content I want, I want more of it, please pretty please, I know it’ll be a while before all the gif-makers are able to get a hold of those scenes but man as soon as they do goodness gracious I’m just gonna stare at it all for hours 😭

-While I was already assuming that the Metkayina didn’t actually know English and that we the audience were only hearing English for convenience, I was expecting that issue not to be directly addressed. So I was pleasantly surprised when it was subtly addressed with Jake’s voiceover about now being familiar enough with the Na’vi language to understand it as easily English as the audio of the kids bickering swapped from Na’vi to English. Theory confirmed!

-Speaking of the Na’vi language, I did feel very excited because I was able to understand some of the unsubtitled lines, which was a goal! so yay!! I mean, I didn’t understand every Na’vi line spoken (some of the longer ones I’ll definitely have to listen to more than once to piece together), but to even understand any of it at all, especially the ones without subtitles, felt very awesome!! dopamine rush babey!!!

-And on that note, the fact that Quaritch of all characters was making an effort to learn the language really surprised me! He struck me as the type of character to not give two craps about that sort of thing but hey. I definitely got a kick of out of Spider absolutely roasting him for his lack of skills hrh (note, I very most certainly do not condone actually mocking new learners making mistakes, obviously, but seeing as this is Quaritch we’re talking about...^^”) Spider’s line here was also a place I even managed to catch a subtitle discrepancy -- iirc, the subtitles read “You sound like a three-year-old!” but the actual line was nga plltxe na ‘eveng ahì’i! you speak like a small child! Which, I mean, y’know, same gist, but it was cool to be able to understand the actual words!! I also greatly enjoyed Spider trying to teach Quaritch the distinction between na and nga, just because man that’s one of those things every learner has been through, idk it was delightful to watch it go down between canon characters hrh

-Speaking of Quaritch and Spider....wow, I was surprised just how early they dropped the “Quartich’s son” bomb. That had been a pretty popular and plausible theory for a while, but I was expecting it to either be left up to interpretation or used as a bombshell later in the film. But nope, from the get-go it’s pretty heavily implied that not only is Quaritch Spider’s biological father, but that they’re both aware of this. So. Yeah, that was certainly a surprise.

-Kiri “I would rather drink acid than have Norm be my biological father” good gracious girl! like I mean yes the idea that Norm and Grace were secretly hookin’ up is obviously preposterous, but what did Norm ever do to you to deserve that reaction ^^; haha

-I mentioned in my High Ground post the three primary theories on Kiri’s origins. Having now seen the movie, I now think the mystical-Eywa-conception theory is by far the most likely. However, canonically it still remains a mystery/up to interpretation. Perhaps we’ll get more answers in movie 3...

-Y’know what, vulgarity is not typically my type of humor, but Lo’ak flippin’ Quaritch the double bird when asked to let him see his fingers did get a chuckle out of me hrh

-hey um yo the Metkayina kids were absolute JERKS, what the heck?? like good golly heckin’ rude. Except for Tsireya she’s chill I like her :)

-Personally I don’t think the story of this movie is a total rehash of the first one overall, but I can very mostly definitely see how people would consider it so. There were several lines in two scenes in particular, the one where the Sullies arrive at the Metkayina clan and the one with the tulkun hunters, that were just soooooo similar to lines from the first movie, not quite verbatim but certainly awkwardly close. I can absolutely see this becoming a common complaint from internet critics.

-Tuk pretty much solely exists to make the audience go d’awwwww!!, and y’know what, that’s ok because boy did she succeed :’)

-unfortunately, Quaritch’s ikran has by far the coolest design of all the ikrans, like bruh that color palette is heckin’ dope. what a shame ur now stuck with this jerk lol. Though I did snicker at Quaritch feeling the need to bond with the ikran “the hard way” solely because he couldn’t stand to be outdone by Jake lol

-I liked Lo’ak and Payakan’s friendship, it was very sweet. Also very interesting design-wise that a tulkun’s queue is in his mouth, and that the mouth has more of those bioluminescent patterns on the inside.

-The fact that the tulkun hunters are 100% aware that the species they’re hunting is fully sapient feels very ick to me. Sir that’s...that’s murder. Good gracious. and um “tulkun brain juice stops human aging” wh...what?? can uh...can we get some more explanation on that??? like is that gonna be somehow relevant to later movies or is it just some arbitrary thing to make the brain juice valuable, valuable enough to attempt to justify murder idk but uh....yyyyyyeah 😬

-minor thing, but I was surprised that the swimming baby from the trailer was, in fact, not Ronal’s. In fact, we never actually meet Ronal’s baby, which, again, surprised me. Why make her pregnant if we don’t get to see the baby, it feels kinda random ^^; to link her to her spirit tulkun who just had a calf I guess?? idk. once again, maybe it’ll become more relevant in movie 3.

-until proven otherwise, I am heretofore declaring that final “a son for a son” line to be Spider’s official adoption into the Sully family 😭😭😭

anyways, I guess that’ll do for now. I’m sure there was other stuff but I’ve been sitting here typing for over an hour already. Perhaps later I’ll come back with more comments, idk. I’ll be seeing the movie again next week with the rest of my family, so maybe I’ll notice different things/remember stuff that got swallowed up in the feels. Will I cry more than I did on my first viewing because I’m gonna try not to go in dehydrated again, or less because by then I’ll have had a week to process and accept everything? I have literally no idea. Guess we’ll have to just wait and see...

So in antiquity it was debated whether astrology worked by influence or by signature, whether the stars affected reality or if they just reflected reality. And like. The latter position was afaik pretty popular even among philosopher types which is crazy to me. Like it makes sense for unpredictable events like comets or whatver but aiui astrology was mostly just the positions of the planets and stuff which were already predictable back then. So like. If they reflected reality that would imply that reality (I mean. Specifically peoples actions and stuff cuz astrology was generally personal or on the level of like a single state) has some sort of intrinsic cyclical aspect that is distilled in the sky. Which is way crazier than the stars just like. Affecting people's actions somehow. It's ancient Greek times maybe the stars are psychic. There was a popular idea (I think Plato said this? It might have been after Plato. It was one of the big guys. Plotinus...?) that the soul descended to earth past all the planets and acquired influence from them as it passed. And then some later guys said that's how astrology works. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Anyway iirc the stoics were into the signature explanation for like deist reasons basically which is a rare stoic L

I've been thinking lately and noticed how similar Mc is to a Nephilim. In case you didn't know; Nephilim are the spawn from a union between a Human and an Angel. If lilith somehow kept her Angel DNA after being reincarnated as a human and MC being their distant descendant, chances are Mc is more Nephilim than human.

Another thing i would like to point out is; How powerful Mc is! The game even mentions that Mc is probably more powerful than Solomon (Twice mind you). In Lesson 62-19, Lucifer states that there are probably only a few demons who could pose a threat to MC due to how powerful they have become. And if i remember correctly in Lesson 76-19, Simeon stole the ring of light from the Celestial Realm without permission for Mc cuz they couldn't control their power. Now where am i getting with this? You see, a Nephilim is considered one of the most powerful entities in the universe due to being able to become stronger than its angelic parents. Nephilim are greater in power because not only do they possess the power of the Angelic parentage but a Human soul to enhance it, creating a supremely powerful being. Nephilim were also stated to have been quite destructive with their powers especially if they couldn't control said powers.

MC could be so powerful it could pose a threat everyone. Basically, Mc is capable to be more powerful than any demon or angel. Maybe this could be why the Celestial Realm (or Michael for that matter) kepts a close eye on Mc on all times.

Ah yes, nephilim, I am indeed familiar with this concept! I can't remember where I first heard about it. I'm pretty sure I knew about them before Supernatural had one in the later seasons... but I can't remember where I first heard it.

Anyway, I think a lot of this depends on how the ancestry works in the OM world. They don't tell us this information, of course, so it's hard to say. But Lilith is one of MC's distant ancestors, so her angel DNA by normal human standards would be extremely diluted at this point. Not gone entirely, but certainly not the same amount that MC would have if they had had one full angelic parent.

Which isn't to say that they aren't still a powerful nephilim. Since this is all made up, it just depends on whatever worldbuilding the game decides to go with. (If they bring this up at all, which they might not.) I mean in that they could say in order to be considered a nephilim, one has to have a fully angelic parent. But they could also say, it doesn't matter. The angelic DNA could be so strong and powerful enough that it manifests in MC just as strongly as it would if MC had a fully angelic parent. If they did go with that, though, I think there'd need to be some kind of special exception for MC specifically. Because otherwise every human in MC's lineage would also have had that same amount of power, possibly more.

I think it'd be interesting if MC's reason was honestly just... they came to the Devildom! That power was always latent in them (and iirc this is kinda how they describe it in the game too), but it isn't brought out until they start making pacts and befriending angels and so forth.

They definitely already have destructive levels of power. MC needed the Ring of Light in order to contain that power because it was fucking with the worlds without MC even doing anything. That's why it was like a matter of desperation that they sever their pacts and blah blah.

I think MC is currently a threat to the stability of the worlds, but because they have the Ring of Light, that keeps their power stable instead of going haywire all the time.

Anyway, MC is OP and whether that's due to just their life circumstances or because of their angel DNA, the game hasn't specified. Which means you get to make up whatever you want, which is always fun!

I was also under the impression that nephilim are often so dangerous that regular angels won't even suffer them to live. Like if they find out about it, they're gonna hunt that nephilim down because nobody that powerful should exist. Most stories seem to go this route with it. But here we got Michael bein like... I gotta watch this one, but I'm not gonna kill 'em. LOL. And I think that's an interesting aspect. They don't really interfere much at all, even when MC was an active threat.

In fact, they straight up punished Simeon for doing the one thing that would save the worlds from MC's power without anyone having to die.

I'm still mad about it.

Anyway, I will tag this as spoilers just in case, I know not everybody is caught up on all the seasons in OG.

But I like this concept! It's certainly interesting to think about and to consider all the different things that could go into it!

i feel like i'm only this interested in byler because of shipping culture ykwim? like of course shipping is good and fine, but people tend to pay less attention to characters out of ships and ive made like. 10 posts about that already because it really gets to me, and i'm adhd, so when someone else is hyped abt something, i'll be hyped abt smth too, and thats why i GOT into shipping byler, because i made posts and curated my following around it, so i don't post about other ships i enjoy that much.

and also because there just isn't enough content about lumax/elmax/max (ships i really enjoy) in general, because a. lumax is canon, nothing needs to be "proved" or "analysed", it is also a straight ship. b. elmax isn't straight, but many people view it as only platonic, and there comes a time where there isn't enough material to work off of in elmax, since max was introduced in s2 and they became friends in s3. c. max as a character isn't interesting enough to people because people ARE more interested in shipping culture, and that's fine! but it means that there isn't enough content about her. that's why i sorta got out of my max phase because, i feel like i can only like something when other people like it cuz my mindset doesn't let me be unique iykwim. thats why im really grateful for my elmax/lumax/max mutuals and followers, because here people recognise that people might need validation in stuff, and yall are feral about max which makes ME feral about max and honestly? i need that in my life.

i feel like bylers (as the st ship with the most active tag) should make a conscious effort to seek out or create more content about other ships and/or support other ships' content with likes and reblogs. and maybe bylers should also get out of their comfort zone and consume content of other ships, and maybe i'm being a bit hypocritical, but i have this thing where my brain wont allow me to like something if many other people don't like it, so yeah. many lumaxes and elmaxes and ronances also feel like this i presume, since byler is getting so much traction and content daily and their ships aren't getting much because people wont step out of byler. so yeah.

This has kidnapping, death threats, assault with a weird gadget, and force-feeding. And I shit you not, out of every other canon character in the comic, this is the Least Toxic* Pairing You Can Make Involving Johnny. It's also the funniest. Like reading through the comic you get so used to seeing Johnny savagely murder someone at the end of every other scene, it's like whiplash to see him just let this random unnamed guy out the door with a cheery wave. It's like seeing Darth Vader give someone a cupcake. Please you have to let them hold hands it would be so fucking funny. Also I swear I actually saw one single piece of ship art for them once where they're eating hotdogs or ice pops or something cylindrical like that but I can't find it now cuz this dipshit doesn't have a name.

•maybe it’s just additional promotion for missing link since other ml tidbits have been coming out around this time but it seems strange that nomura would choose him to represent the kh series in that new little drawing. out of every other main character? the point of the drawing seems to be celebrating anniversaries. and guess who was there in kh’s 20th anniversary showcase video earlier this year. my boy brain. and guess what else was in that video. kh4. i mean kh4 was like the highlight of it all y’know? idk it’s just an interesting character choice in the art to me

•with the narrator for both the missing link and kh4 reveal trailers being the same mysterious guy, sigurd, it seems there’s a significant connection between the two games. if sigurd can travel from scala in that era to quadratum so can brain. (side note: iirc nomura said something about how even though those voices are the same guy he was given different voice direction for those two scenarios) and they know each other obviously. neat stuff

•eraqus in dark road said he doesnt exactly know what happened to his grandfather. so think brain never actually died i think he got sent to quadratum. (side note: if this is the case brain must be a grown adult when this happens, cuz otherwise how could he have had kids there in scala already. so if brain was in a later game like kh4 unless more time/aging shenanigans happen then we might get to see a genuine and good adult original character in kh)

Agree with all of this. Of all the things I wanted out of the show and fic THAT was one of the biggest one.I mean the superfriends will always put Kara’s first, they are her friends who were also all lying to lena so after their “breakup” lol lena had no one and that sucked.

I guess that’s why I loved Sam so much for the very beginning omg Lena has a friend?!? Even if after she knew Kara and Alex for like a week they were already “sisters” lol but I did have high hopes for Andrea because they really had an intense backstory and at least I couldn’t see her ever caring about kara or any of the super friends so she could definitely be all Lena’s but of course what they did with her was just a big disappointment like always.

I was also hoping for at least something good out of the whole ridiculous magic storyline and it would be Lena finding a friend, family, something but nope, she just found more people to hate her for things that are entirely not her fault.

It especially burns that they cut the scene where Alex and Kelly asked Lena to be godmother. (At least, I think it was cut, iirc.)

Cuz that would have been a step in the right direction, you know? A show of trust in Lena herself, rather than in terms of her relationship with Kara.

And I love her relationship with Kara, don't get me wrong, clearly. But yeah-- Lena deserved some love all her own.

ok im gonna be honest i've only finished botw and totk so this is gonna be moreso why the alternate timeline from botw is plausible in comparison to the actual placement of the timeline bc thats too much thinking and its been like a million bajillion years since i read the historia.

ok so firstly zelda doing different things in the past is def why the line would have changed from botw to totk but why was zelda the one who went back in time?? In botw the divine beasts are literally analogous to the current sages which is basically

vah rudania/daruk = yunobo

vah naboris/urbosa = riju

vah ruta/mipha = sidon

vah medoh/revali = tulin

that covers all four but what about link?? link gets his own divine beast (master cycle) too so why is zelda the sage and not link?? besides i heard this mentioned somewhere else (i forgot where) but link has the ability to literally slow down time when hes drawing his bow or looking through the scope and he can pause time with the menu but idk if thats actually canon LOL. either way link can also control time like zelda. But speaking of divine beasts the 4 helms can be found in totk as well but the item descriptions call them zonai while the general look of the pieces is clearly sheikha which is weird cuz whaaaat?? also idk maybe nintendo just wanted a way to explain amiibo gear but this just suggests that the divine beasts themsleves are also zonai of some sort. I'm like 99% sure this is just because they needed a body of water that you can drop into safely but its also the only pond on ground thats actually got the lily pads from the sky in it which is interesting. I don't think they added any other new bodies of water aside from this though. Lorewise though it makes no sense at all that they removed that whole giant skeleton from here in a few years and even if they did iirc the ground around it was crackly and dry. Lanaryu/Zorana used to all be a desert and they said it took hundreds of years for it to become fertile so its kind of nonsensical that this area would only take a little while...

overall i think this is probably just nintendo trying to make it so that totk can be standalone but man it cant be that hard to write coherent lore

2. VERY FIRST EPISODE OF LMK PIGSY KNOWS SANDY HAS A BOAT AT THE VERY LEAST AND OFFERS TO GO ASK HIM SO THEY CAN GET TO FFM. even if he's never been on the boat prior to then he definitely knows where to get one

4. we know from the episode Benched that pigsy has the voice of an angel (thank you sandy) meaning he's more than capable of singing it

they could already be married OR. this could be how he proposes to tang as well as how the gang first hears tang sing. and when the song's over and tang opens his eyes while giggling he sees the ring as pigsy finally pops the question... 🥺🥺

- also it took like 6 minutes for shintaro to leave the house... theres other things being done ofc, establishing shinene's dynamics, quick exposition of how ene ended up with shintaro to begin with, and spilling soda onto the computer and leaving the house. but i feel like it wouldve been better if the anime stuck to what the novels + mr1 does, where ene blares a loud fucking alarm. that quickly establishes shinene's dynamic and easily leads to a So You Must Be Wondering How I Got Here type of thing, and then knock over the soda leave the house bam easy. instead the anime really took its time with like..... idk making shinaro look ikemen. yeahhh not the best choice, especially considered how rushed the last few episodes are gonna be. ok back to watching the anime

Ghost is still them but Something is Definitely Different. The air around them seems colder and more dense in a way you wouldn't expect from someone so tiny. Just makes them all the more unsettling.

update on bunduki: i've been researching and i've been poking at an ewokese pronunciation scheme bc i need to have one in order to know how the words woulda acclimatized upon being loaned. tho honestly first i should figure out what words i even need to loan. cuz the core vocab is gonna be finnish words derived from proto-uralic/proto-finno-ugric. maybe some archaic/dialectal ones. pii for tooth my beloved. peni for dog my beloved. emo/emä for mom my beloved. and then some 1500s swedish loans cuz, see, förräderi is literally swedish. gonna be fun to just make the whole thing weird.

hi! it's not a stupid question! and i am no expert - so, what do you mean by ending?

[also - i'm going to "spoil" the book, but not the show. from what we've seen they're very different]

please be aware i read only the first two books, and i did so almost a decade ago and not even in their original language - but, from what i know, after more than 40 yrs of their turbulent canon relationship, they do get a happy ending together, iirc they even got married officialy, which is i'm sure as happy of an ending as we can hope for, so - if thats any consolation, there is a version of them that is happy

if you mean the ending of this season - i honestly think not. there's two episodes left, and from what we've seen i'm sure it'll end with a cliffhanger that will definitely not stick them together

BUT there's already a 2nd season on the way, with who knows how many to come, so i guess the answer is we just have to wait n see! and i have no idea what will happen in s2, since it's still not clear how the shows changes timeline fits with the books' timeline

and since you haven't started watching i'll just add that, happy ending or not, this is honestly one of the best tv shows i've seen in a long time. the writing is fantastic, the soundtrack is gorgeous, and the relationships (not just Louis and Lestat, but Louis and his brother, his mother, his sister, Claudia and her birth family, as well as Claudia and Lestat and Claudia and Louis) are so wonderfully complex and real that i could write thousands of words just analyzing each one. it's also not just an lgbt show, it has a lot to say about race, class, gender, and intersection of each of those. just take care of urself while watching & pls be mindful that there's some topics that might be disturbing, such as racism [throught the show tbh, but esp eps 1&2] suicide/suicidal ideation [ep1], self harm [ep4], sexual & domestic violence [ep5], but overall, it's a show that i wholeheartetly recommend.
