- Suprise .... - Heavypelt wasn't aware they were carrying when they joined river clan. They actually entirely forgot that they could even conceive. So it came as a suprise when after several moons they had featherstep. but they quickly stepped up to accepting now being a father as it was never something they were against to begin with it just kind of happened.

what happened to Alan?? in general?? is he undead? a puppet? a clown that fell from glory? is his mouth permanently in that frown? what are all those floaty chain thingys around him? does he have some kinda backstory or is he just a cool design you thought of?

WEEELLL I'M GLAD YOU ASKED!

Okay first of all, Alan is actually a some sort of ghost haunting in the ghost station because, lore drop a long time ago Alan was supposed to be waiting for someone at the station but they've been there so long they died waiting and came back as a spirit.

Second of all the permanent frown on their face and clown makeup is because it's a mask

As you can see some of the mask feathures in the contept art and pins but in their player icon you can see their right ear

Third of all the thingys around him are supposed to symbolize neglect and abondoment, since Alan is stuck waiting for the person they promised to wait they kind of can't leave the ghost station anymore

Also because i thought it would be cool for the design

Luke Waller

During University Luke would copy styles that were popular during the time, and use them in his work.

Tried to fit into the editorial world.

Starting out:

Art director analogy: You (the illustrator) are the Aztecs, your computer is your alter and the art director is God. Your work is a sacrifice you give to appease the Gods, who give you money and stability but also wrath and the ability to take all.

First work:

First commission was from the Finanical times, find places that work with new illustrators.

Art directors wanted more colour and stuff to fill the backgrounds, and make the image stand out and more engaging for viewers.

5 Years in:

He started filling the space in his work with colour, uses mono print for lineart and rarely uses black - as it’s too harsh for the image and doesn’t make anything standout.

Everything in his image is there for a reason, it’s purposeful.

When you only work for 1 person your work is going to look very similar, so look for different opoortunities to vary your portfolio.

Colourful work standouts.

New artwork was always at the top of the portfolio.

He had a better focial point for his illustrations, he guided his audience to were he wanted them to look at in his drawings.

The present:

Uses more colour and barely any black - limited palette of 3 colours and uses them for mixing.

The message of the artwork is more important than, how pretty the image looks.

Get connections with graphic students, the more people you know the better.

It’s who you know in the industry, don’t worry you will know them in the future.

Makes witty, clever conteptional pieces of artwork.

Worked consistently with the Financial times, did what they wanted and helped them -lead to him getting noticed and jobs with different people.

Exposure, it’s who it’s being seen by.

My opinion:

Appreciate the honest, continuous journey after uni and learnt a new art technique. I’m tired of typing up notes now, sorry - Luke you did a great useful presentation.
