thoughts on community characters getting tattoos? Before anyone says anything I know Annie is Jewish AND many jewish ppl have tattoos

-britta would be very scared about getting one, maybe gets one she regrets or like a butterfly without knowing it’s popular

-if Annie got one it would be in an area you can’t see with clothes on, simplistic yet meaningful

-troy might get like doodles randomly positioned on his arms

-Jeff plans out a few secretly but never gets them, or has a secret one for the study group

-abed would get an important screen cap from maybe inspector space time or the first show he fell in love with

Community Headcanons!

Britta had a skateboarding phase at some point (likely pre-Greendale). She bought a board and put a couple stickers on it only for her to get utterly wrecked after she wiped out 30 times her first couple times practicing.

Now she's still nowhere near good, but she got to a point where she could do a couple tricks and not fall over too much (I also like to think she got a brief skater gf out of it)

Abed, Troy, and Annie start a podcast (it was an idea they came up at 3am) where it's just them rambling. It's mostly inside jokes and generally incomprehensible for the general public. This doesn't stop the Dean from promoting it throughout Greendale, even putting an episode through the loudspeakers.

Jeff will get in fights in instagram/youtube comments. Like it's not even a fight he has a stake in nor is prompted to be in. He'll just reply to a thread and start going insane.

He's gotten temporary bans from all sorts of sites. So good for him(?)

Actually once he got in a fight with a user who turned out to be Britta. Neither of them know.

Frankie and Annie both do bar trivia nights. Eventually they drag Abed and Elroy into their scheme. They all do really well (they're all super intelligent so not really a surprise) and end up winning so many useless gift cards and made for tv products. The only person who accepts their offers to pass along these gifts is Chang. No one knows why he takes these items nor what his intention is with them. They all assume it's fine.

Shirley and Annie listen to true-crime podcasts and send each other recommendations. Shirley is of the belief that if she was thrown into a murder mystery, she could solve it (and honestly I think she has a good shot at it)

The study group all did an escape room once (Annie's idea) and it's actually a mess

Troy freaks out, Shirley reads too much into the clues (thinking a mark on the wall is a clue. it is not), Britta starts breaking things in an effort to find a key, Abed tries to pick the locks, Annie will look at every single item taking excruciatingly long, and Jeff spends his time yelling at the escape room people via the security camera.

They end up arguing and it descends into chaos

they all get ice cream after to calm down. They are all banned from that escape room for life though.

Troy ends up taking more dance classes after the event of season 1 and he gradually becomes more open about it. The whole group goes to one of his shows and Troy feels so happy to be able to perform and be able to finally share it with other people on his own terms.

Abed Troy and Annie have a wheel to pick what movies to watch and afterwords Abed will type up a paragraph long letterboxd review which he makes troy and annie check over before posting

on that note Abed's letterboxd has like thousands of followers. he's essentially a god on that platform

Sometime Jeff, Britta, and Abed will do things like going on roadtrips to stupid landmarks, go to interactive sort of museums, go roller skating, and have movie nights in order to give them all a piece of the childhood back that they never had

Britta asks Shirley to teach her how to cook and despite some initial hesitance from Shirley, she agrees and while neither would outwardly admit it, it's a highlight for both of them

Annie watches But I'm a Cheerleader one day and it completely changes the trajectory of her life

Jeff keeps a diary but not like a diary diary, whenever something good happens with him and the study group he writes it down to remember when things get bad. He keeps it in the same place he got the notes from his classmates when he broke(?) his arm (idk if he broke his arm but it was the thing he talked about in critical film studies)

After abed nags them all, the group + the dean do a d&d campaign one summer with Abed dming

Elroy gives the group his hand me down sweaters

Frankie and Jeff are drinking buddies

Annie never throws away anything from her childhood (she believes all her toys have feelings) so she still has a bunch of stuffed animals in her room. Upon asking she can immediately give you each one's name and full backstory

Abed and Troy collect funko pops religiously

Abed has little pages in a notebook dedicated to each of the study group members with their likes and dislikes and other things. When Annie finds out about this, she gives him little stickers for the notebook. Abed initially rebuffs her attempts to make his notebooks decorative, but eventually he puts a couple on the front and puts a bunch on Annie's page

He finds it endearing. Naki tries to do this, to a rather annoying degree, so for you to be subtle about it is a good change.

He noticed the handwriting bit on one of the days he was going through paperwork. There was a slip that he didn’t remember writing. He was about to write himself off as crazy until he noticed a small deviation in the handwriting. It was your handwriting.

He notices that your sleeping and resting positions start to mirror his own. He finds it sweet.

When you start cracking your knuckles like him, he does get a little concerned. His reasons for doing so aren’t pleasant and are just out of trauma induced compulsions. In the end he decides that he doesn’t mind since you’re coming from a place of love. It makes him realize that he doesn’t have to associate it with pain anymore now that you’re here.

He also notices that you’re starting to do the same quick grin that he does. This gets him grinning more.

Naki

The king of mimicry getting mimicked? He’s so happy!

He mimics Yamori because he loves and admires him so when you start mimicking him, he’s just elated and thankfully, you now match that enthusiasm!

He notices that you start doing the same giddy mannerisms that he does when you’re excited.

You’re even developing a bit of his emotional streak, you don’t cry like he does though, you just get a bit more choked up than you usually would.

He’s a quiet man but he’s got plenty of mannerisms that are so unequivocally him that it’s hard not to notice when you’re mimicking him.

He’s another one who finds it extremely endearing and personal. It’s another thing that cements your love for him in his mind.

He doesn’t bring it up but when he sees you start to doodle on papers more than you usually would, he gets really happy.

Considering that he also struggles with affections, he considers this to be the peak of PDA. It’s like something out of a documentary…A documentary that he could make…Quick! Get the camera!

like for the longest time idk why but i never considered she got hooked on adderall thinking it would help her but she was neurotypical

now i think thats what the writers meant, but also, my personal headcanon is that she has adhd and adderall just wasnt the right medication for her but now she’s found a different one that works better

midnight icecream together!!! they're all in their pjs (troy and abed got annie a set of pjs for their first christmas/notchristmas/notpresent/hanukkah/holidayday/gift not gift that matched theirs but in purple :)) they eat icecream with sprinkles, with chocolate syrup, with marshmallows, with chopped nuts on top, with multiple flakes, with m&ms - the whole shebang. they might have some inspector spacetime in the background whilst they talk and giggle and make funny faces at each other. they leave the dishes in the sink for later that morning and probably end up sleeping and cuddling together on cushions or on the sofa for the rest of the night.

annie has lots of pillows and bears and plushies etc, a whole collection. so, troy and abed decide to get her a new plush every birthday/not Christmas Christmas holiday day or just when they see one that looks cool and so her whole bed is just filled with different animals or weirdly shaped cushions they found in charity shops or drugstores or furniture stores or ebay or something lol (they make sure they clean them beforehand obviously so they smell of nice lavender fabric conditioner) and annie allows them to name some of them too ;)

Annie listens to Mitski, she a mitski gal like me, and she tends to listen to 'bury me at make out creek' or 'lush' albums when she's sad or feels overwhelmed with emotions or feeling insecure :// so when Troy hears the familiar sound of Francis Forever through her door when he goes to ask if she wants takeout tonight, he knocks on the door before entering and seeing her on her bed with a tear stricken face :( he gives her a big big hug, turns the music off and just holds her and tells her the things that happened in his day, like how he saw a cat with one eye outside the apartment building and tried to feed it the leftover chips he had at lunch but it might have scratched him and the cut on his hand don't look so good and then annie bursts into laughter and slaps troy's chest calling him an idiot and fixes up his hand so it doesn't get infected

abed and annie watch the xfiles together, they go through s1-s9 and even dress up as fox mulder and dana scully respectively for one Halloween!!! they watch the movies together and think up of their own conspiracies about the show or real life government. and it's partially what pushed Annie to pursue forensics and the fbi further and Abed 100% backed her and encouraged her (also got her to promise to give him a special fbi hq tour and may or may not write his own spin off special episode take on Annie working at the fbi hehe and also makes sure she reports back all the tales she has for script inspo) when the latter seasons of 10&11 come out whilst they're apart, they Skype each other and do watch parties and britta might pitch in too.

Abed loves his buttered noodles and Troy loves eating pizza all the time and as much as Annie loves takeout and easy eating, she knows its not healthy to have it all the time (and its expensive!!!) so they have a day of the week (I'm feeling Thursday) when they cook a proper homecooked meal together like lasagna or chili con carne and save leftovers for lunch the next day too. Annie also makes sure they eat some fruit so sometimes when they study she makes them all fruit cups and adds a little bit of sprinkled sugar ontop of strawberries ;)

Troy loves to bake. he loves it. he loves making a mess of flour and sugar and having his friends and family tasting his creations. he learnt a lot from Shirley and makes a realllll good pumpkin pie for thanksgiving every year. he loves making apple crumble bc of the texture and he loves decorating cakes and cupcakes (though he does like drawing dicks with icing and makes jokes whenever someone eats one lol) and although he doesn't celebrate birthdays, he still makes abed and annie a cake and he gets them to decorate it with him so it has a some of the flair of the not birthday person. I feel like baking is one of his love languages and he just loves to feed his family the delicious treats and gets super happy when they like them or bake with him :)))

obviously movie nights!! binging tv show nights!! movie marathons!! popcorn galore!! they all know each others comfort movie/show and just watch and cuddle on the sofa when they need it

pillow and blanket forts <33 they might have little studies sessions in them or troy and abed just go to Annie's room and sit in her bed on the many pillows she has hehe

they just love each other and are always there for each other <3 I love them and they're my fave trio <3

Britta and Abed share recommendations: Abed texts her movies he think she'll like and Britta will give him CDs with a notecard where she notes the tracks she think he will like

Abed makes Britta get a letterboxd but unlike him she will only log on once every six months and then log like 30 movies at once. Her reviews basically consist of either indepeth 800 word essays or just "good".

The two of them gossip together. Sometimes after classes, they'll just sit in Britta's car and talk for hours. You wouldn't think it, but Britta knows Jeff is so horrible at gossip and Abed knows Troy isn't the best at it, so they turn to each other!

Abed cat-sits for Britta's like six cats. He ends up making a movie with them while Britta's away. She is a little horrified by it but also loves it dearly.

Both of them are huge halloween fans and go to haunted houses together

They will actually travel like 3 hours to go to haunted houses. They've taken about 10 of these road trips.

Whenever Britta sees a music act at a bar she'll invite Jeff, Troy, Abed, and Annie, but the only one who will always show up is Abed.

Being close-ish to each other in age, the two of them have formed a really strong platonic relationship. They're like a sometimes argumentative brother and sister.

thinking about how abeds canonically had experience working at his fathers falafel place and worked in the greendale cafeteria so he can cook…and how if we take troy’s combined childhood and teen toxic masculinity and his lack of knowledge about housework it seems likely he wouldn’t be able to cook, we we left with the only possible conclusion of abed teaching troy to cook. 

thinking about how for troy this signifies letting go of his toxic masculinity, about how it represents him seizing independence as he truly does not need his parents anymore, he’s found his own family in abed and annie. 

thinking about abed teaching troy to cook and troy waking up extra early one day to make pancakes for abed. it’s not their anniversary or anything he just loves making abed smile. 

thinking about troy standing in front of the stove cooking and resting the spatula in the pan as he asks abed if he’s doing it right and abed responds by circling his arms around troy’s waist and resting his chin on troy’s shoulder and annie returns to find the two in an. ahem. compromising. situation on the kitchen counter and the food in the pan ready to burst into flames.

thinking about troy and abed baking a cake together. thinking about them throwing sugar at each other, smearing flour on each other’s faces. thinking about abed making and mixing the batter and explaining the process while troy tries to sneak some of the batter to lick off his fingers. about how, dusty with sugar and cocoa powder and flour, they throw chocolate chips into each other’s mouths, making a game from it, laughing as the cake bakes in the oven. thinking about them sitting on the counter passing the almost empty bowl of batter between them, scraping up the left overs until it’s completely clean and troy hands it to abed with his best british accent, saying “your photonic bowler hat, inspector.” thinking about how when the cake’s finally done, they emerge from the kitchen after hours, covered in flour and sugar and bits of egg yolk and smears of butter and icing, they set the cake down proudly on the table, and smile at annie’s squeals when she comes home.

thinking about abed finishing teaching troy the basics and the two stand watching an apple pie slowly turn golden in the oven  and abed saying “now you don’t have to depend on anyone else for food ever again” and troy grinning and saying “yea, but i still love your cooking best,” and kissing abed, and he tastes like apples and cinnamon and sugar and coming home.

reasons i think troy barnes is autistic!!

note: this is just my headcanon and you’re not obligated to feel the same way. abed is canonically autistic and i talk about him as representation a lot so i wanted to talk about troy for once and why i relate to him so much :]

-emotional disregulation: troy is often shown to have difficulty controlling and processing his emotions. he gets upset frequently and is insecure about the amount he cries, feeling that his over-emotionality is a weakness

-hyper empathy: while autism is often associated with low empathy, the opposite can also occur. troy is extremely compassionate and it’s very easy for him to relate with people and animals

-difficulty recognizing sarcasm/social cues: an example of this is when he doesn’t realize he’s being dissed by britta. he is frequently a little behind on jokes.

-stimming: troy rocks, flaps his hands, bounces up and down, and does other behaviors that could be self-soothing.

-masking: he initially behaves more “normally” but when he’s comfortable with his friends troy begins to open up more and show his real self. troy seems more impacted than abed by other people’s perceptions of him and is more hesitant to engage in behaviors that are considered weird.

-engages in playing/other interests considered juvenile: troy feels insulted when he’s not perceived as an adult, but is sometimes seen as childish because of his personality.

-lack of personal space: troy is a very physical person which can be a symptom of autism.

-nonverbal episodes/difficulties communicating: i think this could be hinted at when he freezes up at meeting levar burton and is unable to talk or move.

there’s a lot more but im gonna stop talking now. i know the adhd troy headcanon is pretty popular and i definitely believe that one as well, but i see him as co-morbid so i wanted to ramble!!
