mini headcanon: one year to raise money for the parks department, the parks and rec crew holds a haunted house event in a shed in one of the parks. Leslie plans it out, Donna does social media promotion, Ben goes out and tracks down tons of fake blood (and chaos ensues making many innocent passers by believe that he's a murderer), Ann and Chris act in it (their hearts are in the right place but neither of them are good at this type of acting), April and Andy also act (they are so good in this. Horror runs in their blood. Andy is scary in a goofy way, April gives these kids nightmares for life), Ron stands outside of the shed silent with an axe and a ski mask (he scares the most kids), and Jerry went to the wrong location.

Community Headcanons!

Britta had a skateboarding phase at some point (likely pre-Greendale). She bought a board and put a couple stickers on it only for her to get utterly wrecked after she wiped out 30 times her first couple times practicing.

Now she's still nowhere near good, but she got to a point where she could do a couple tricks and not fall over too much (I also like to think she got a brief skater gf out of it)

Abed, Troy, and Annie start a podcast (it was an idea they came up at 3am) where it's just them rambling. It's mostly inside jokes and generally incomprehensible for the general public. This doesn't stop the Dean from promoting it throughout Greendale, even putting an episode through the loudspeakers.

Jeff will get in fights in instagram/youtube comments. Like it's not even a fight he has a stake in nor is prompted to be in. He'll just reply to a thread and start going insane.

He's gotten temporary bans from all sorts of sites. So good for him(?)

Actually once he got in a fight with a user who turned out to be Britta. Neither of them know.

Frankie and Annie both do bar trivia nights. Eventually they drag Abed and Elroy into their scheme. They all do really well (they're all super intelligent so not really a surprise) and end up winning so many useless gift cards and made for tv products. The only person who accepts their offers to pass along these gifts is Chang. No one knows why he takes these items nor what his intention is with them. They all assume it's fine.

Shirley and Annie listen to true-crime podcasts and send each other recommendations. Shirley is of the belief that if she was thrown into a murder mystery, she could solve it (and honestly I think she has a good shot at it)

The study group all did an escape room once (Annie's idea) and it's actually a mess

Troy freaks out, Shirley reads too much into the clues (thinking a mark on the wall is a clue. it is not), Britta starts breaking things in an effort to find a key, Abed tries to pick the locks, Annie will look at every single item taking excruciatingly long, and Jeff spends his time yelling at the escape room people via the security camera.

They end up arguing and it descends into chaos

they all get ice cream after to calm down. They are all banned from that escape room for life though.

Troy ends up taking more dance classes after the event of season 1 and he gradually becomes more open about it. The whole group goes to one of his shows and Troy feels so happy to be able to perform and be able to finally share it with other people on his own terms.

of course!! this was a lot of fun to do!

Whenever it’s a study session Annie will spend like one hour before hand drawing up a plan

She makes sure to include a mix of individual study, group study, and mock test/quizzes

She also makes a time table for it (SHE IS NOTHING IF NOT PREPARED)

Abed helps her make flashcards/quizlets beforehand (they’ll listen to a shared playlist and crank them out)

Troy is mainly in charge of bringing snacks

Which sounds easy

But in reality the three of them are all kind of picky people with different tastes so Troy essentially has to go all around town to find their respective preferred snacks

As for the actual study sessions, things rarely go according to plan

Mainly Troy and Abed will sometimes do some (good natured) goofing off so Annie has to steer them back on track, but she mostly lets it slide

The group likes to do kahoots/live question quizzes and Troy’s display name is ALWAYS Butts Carleton

They all get hyper competitive over these games to the extent where anyone in their immediate vicinity (other study group members or their apartment neighbors) get very concerned

They’ve gotten noise complaints

Annie is also a big believer in not stopping studying until you fully understand a topic

So there are nights where the three of them are there for hours

And even though Troy and Abed (and Annie at some points) can complain about how long things are taking, it ultimately is for the best

And of course there are study breaks where sometimes they’ll play the Wii, go on a walk, or do fun kahoots as a reward (Abed always demolishes them in movie trivia)

Sometimes after the full group is done, Annie will still remain studying even for hours

So Troy and Abed take it upon themselves to take care of her (they make sure she’s eating, taking breaks, and they’ll will make her coffee/tea)

There have also been times where Annie’s literally fallen asleep at the table, so the two of them bring her a blanket and try to be quiet to let her rest

And for smaller everyday assignments they always have snacks, a shared group playlist, and a giant white board to-do list

If it’s a shared class they’ll check answers and make sure to go over concepts that are unclear

Overall Trobedison homework time is a delight

Headcanons about Ben Wyatt (loml)

gets addicted to mobile puzzle games. Sometimes he'll just zone out for like 45 straight minutes when he's playing until someone (usually Leslie) has to actually tap him on the shoulder to get his attention.

Also I believe he's a legend of zelda player (like if we're thinking in terms of nintendo switch games, Leslie is the ACNH gf and Ben is the BOTW bf)

Ran cross country in high school and occasionally will run 5ks with Chris, but doesn't do it for the competition aspect, more as a way to run off steam.

i know it's canon that he wrote fanfic (gay star trek fanfic to be specific) but I also KNOW that he also probably runs like five tumblr blogs.

On that note if he ever does a q and a on one blog, he will submit asks from his other blogs to give himself questions to answer so the effort for a q and a won't be nothing

While he and his sister are friendly, it's hard with her being in Patridge, so he sort of sees April as an alternate little sister

They both have darker/drier senses of humor and also spent all that time together in DC. Ben has suggested multiple times to April that they go on another road trip, but everytime April says she only wants to go to actual haunted houses or ghost towns...so nothing has ever come out of that. maybe someday.

Ben is bi, we all knew that, he figured it out in high school (had a crush on a sweet nerdy guy from the AV club), but didn't publicly come out to friends or family until many years later for a multitude of reasons (didn't want it to interfere with his campaign for mayor and subsequently become another thing he was targeted for post ICE TOWN)

Leslie is super supportive of him (I personally think of her as vaguely queer too but to each their own) and gets him a little bi flag to keep on his desk.

Also I'm like 99.9999% sure that he's autistic, although that took him longer to figure out. For him it was a big moment as he went about reevaluating things throughout his life, and now had an answer to why things ended up that way or why he felt this way.

he's a little less open about that though

He sees Ron as a sort of father figure and takes up any opportunity to know him better (as no one can ever truly know Ron Swanson)

always has a secret aspiration to be one of those movie/game review channels which make tier lists or do game play throughs (like he's a big unraveled/overboard/dimension 20 fan)

Britta and Abed share recommendations: Abed texts her movies he think she'll like and Britta will give him CDs with a notecard where she notes the tracks she think he will like

Abed makes Britta get a letterboxd but unlike him she will only log on once every six months and then log like 30 movies at once. Her reviews basically consist of either indepeth 800 word essays or just "good".

The two of them gossip together. Sometimes after classes, they'll just sit in Britta's car and talk for hours. You wouldn't think it, but Britta knows Jeff is so horrible at gossip and Abed knows Troy isn't the best at it, so they turn to each other!

Abed cat-sits for Britta's like six cats. He ends up making a movie with them while Britta's away. She is a little horrified by it but also loves it dearly.

they are bi|bi solidarity and also adhd|autism solidarity

Both of them are huge halloween fans and go to haunted houses together

They will actually travel like 3 hours to go to haunted houses. They've taken about 10 of these road trips.

Whenever Britta sees a music act at a bar she'll invite Jeff, Troy, Abed, and Annie, but the only one who will always show up is Abed.

Being close-ish to each other in age, the two of them have formed a really strong platonic relationship. They're like a sometimes argumentative brother and sister.

Oliver always invites Charles and Mabel to watch awards shows with him but he MAKES them come over to watch the tonys

Oliver will make Mabel find an online bracket to print out and he definitely makes themed dishes

As the night goes on, Charles and Mabel will try to push his buttons asking him "what show is this again?". It comes to the point where they do it during the acceptance speeches, the commercials, etc. Oliver goes batshit in response but it's really funny.

Whenever they hang out (mainly late nights of watching crime documentaries or discussing podcasts/cases) Charles makes them all omelettes (although it took weeks of Oliver and Mabel begging him to do so). It's now at the point where they each have custom combinations (Charles has peppers, Mabel has spinach and mushroom, Oliver has extra cheese and ham) that Charles has completely memorized.

Sometimes whenever the group sees a show or is watching TV, Charles will say that whoever is on screen guest starred on Brazzos. They believed him the first few times, but now it's become a sort of affectionate inside joke between them all

Oliver and Mabel try to take pottery classes together. Mabel's great at it. Oliver is not. Mabel gives Oliver one of her vases to pass off as his own to give to Will.

On the one year anniversary of their podcast, Mabel orders the three of them some OMITB merch (mugs, stickers, you name it). However there's way too much ordered so there's a closet in Charles' apartment just full of merch.

whenever they have guests over they don't bring out the fine china, they bring out the only murders in the building mugs

Oliver and Charles pool together some of their money to buy Mabel a really nice paint set. Mabel doesn't have the heart to tell them that she already owns the set, but still goes ahead to use it on a bunch of her work.

They all go out to friday night dinner together. They each take turn picking places and establish a five star review system. They joke about starting a food review podcast if there ever stops being murders around them. There never is though.

When Ben was planning on proposing to Leslie, he went up to Ron’s office one night and nervously fumbled with his words before asking for Ron’s blessing

Ron looked at him with a blank stare before asking Ben why he asked him

Ben once again stumbled with his words (although it’s clear, he thought of Ron as a sort of father/brother figure for Leslie)

Ron found this utterly hilarious and laughed at Ben for a good 10 minutes before Ben left 

Although he did hand Ben and letter from his typewriter the following day detailing how he did think Ben was right for Leslie, although it didn’t take his word to prove it, it was clear

Although he still proceeded to hold this interaction over Ben’s head for a good couple years

As for Leslie, Leslie and Ron created a habit of calling each other in the middle of the night to meet up in the park with breakfast food

It’s mainly Leslie who initiates these calls as she needs to vent, but occasionally Ron will call up Leslie proposing they have another midnight feast in the park (idk if that name is corny I’m a little tired rn)

They never bring it up to anyone else in the office, Ben is vaguely aware but never asks Leslie for any more details. Chris only knows about it since he came across them when he went on a late night/early morning 10k because he is stronger than god I guess

But yeah it’s just an example of how close Leslie and Ron are and despite how sometimes they might put on a front that their relationship is more argumentative, deep down they really do care about each other a lot.

Finally for a little Leslie and Ben head canon, I always like to think that they are time capsule people

By that I mean they have a shoebox filled with mementos of their relationship

The Knope campaign button, a flower from their wedding, some merch from the harvest festival, a news paper clipping of the time Ben punched that jerk in the face etc.

They’re both pretty sentimental people so they save everything: movie tickets, dinner receipts, photos, all of it. Nothing is too big or too small

So consequently they grow to amass five shoeboxes of items. Ben one day makes a list of the location and details of each item.

Leslie likes to think of it as a museum of their relationship (Ron thinks it’s a fire hazard)

But they’re happy, they love each other and honestly that’s all that matters!

They all go on roller skating outings

Abed mainly sticks to the arcade until troy persuades (read: begs) him to do the couples skate

Annie was a figure skater as a kid (parents forced her to) but uses her skills to absolutely destroy the rink

Eventually they all buy skates and stage routines in their apartment

It gets so extreme that they borrow costumes from the dean before going to the rink

They are all absolutely insane about this

Changing subjects now away from rollerskating…

On a typical night you can find them all on the couch but all doing completely different things (a sort of parallel play)

Abed will be watching tv and muttering his thoughts under his breath, Annie will be playing one of those mobile puzzle apps (I like to think she’s a bejeweled blitz devotee), and Troy will be watching YouTube videos

There will be a communal snack bowl or remnants of the dinners one of them cooked on the table

Most nights they’ll try to go to bed on time, but there are many times they all just collectively fall asleep on the couch waking up bleary eyed with the TV still blaring.

Planning for each other’s birthdays is also super intense lmao

The other two (not the birthday person) will have secret meetings up to two months out from the actual date

Annie always gets super intense about planning, Abed tries to rein her in, Troy does not. 

Abed and Troy will always go so insane and meta with planning Annie’s party but eventually it becomes too much and they go to party city the night before

Annie doesn’t mind though as they try to make up for it by having a special Troy and Abed in the morning episode complete with musical numbers

Annie and Troy also share recipes and will occasionally bake together 

And to finish this off, here’s some general head canons rapid fire:

They all build legos together usually on Friday nights, occasionally Jeff and Britta are invited. Britta takes them up on the offer, Jeff does not.

Annie plans a whole event for Troy and Abed’s anniversary complete with a candlelit dinner, a walk in the park, and a carriage ride (no one knows how she got these things, they just happened)

They spend a lot of time going to animal shelters looking at dogs and cats. Eventually they all get a cat. The cat imprints on Abed, much to Troy’s despair. Annie will pick up the cat and dance with it (it sounds corny but it’s super cute trust me) while Troy and Abed just blankly stare at her.

Once it becomes clear that they’ll be living together for a while, they begin hanging up a shit ton of group photos and making custom frames. It becomes such a big thing that the other group members buy them frames. And even after Troy leaves, Annie and Abed still buy frames to keep on framing every photo of the three of them until the stock runs out. They have to go through a bunch of frames until they arrive at that point. It’s a little sad once they do eventually finish.

Abed and Annie have always been close, but they went through a period of trial and error to find a shared fun activity

For example: Abed really enjoys themed escape rooms, but Annie found herself getting way too competitive so they put a pin in that

But then one time in the middle of the night Abed was watching a movie in their apartment, and Annie wasn’t able to sleep. So she wandered to the kitchen and sort of hovered behind him before Abed just told her straight up that “he knew she was behind him and might as well just sit down instead of creepily being over his shoulder”

So she sat beside him on the couch as they finished out a b-list movie from cable

And then they watched another

And another

And finally, they had found something they both liked to do!

Now if it boils down to taste, Abed favors more sci-fi, horror, and what is known as “classic films”

Annie enjoys more historical dramas and the specific subgenre of class lit romcom adaptations

However they have some crossover in 80s movies (specifically John Hughes), Pixar+Stopmotion films, good mystery movies, and Star Wars.

Eventually they decide to officially work it into their schedule (having an event make it into Annie’s planner once but especially on a WEEKLY basis is a big deal) for Saturday nights at 10

Usually it’s just one movie, but there have been many occasions where it’s stretched into two or three

It’s also a bring your own snack affair (Abed sticks with popcorn and twizzlers, and Annie has gummy peach rings and salt&vinegar potato chips)

Troy is always invited and he’ll go a lot of the time, but he sometimes won’t just since he sees it mainly as an Abed and Annie thing. 

Once a movie finishes, both of them will pull out their phones/computers: Annie to do immediate research on all the cast members and their lives while Abed types out an online review

makes secret playlists the moment she falls in love with someone (but would NEVER post them on her main)

Often is a very fidgety person. Eventually after trial and error she takes up crocheting. She makes a ton of those cat beanies and occasionally gives scarves or hats to the other study group members for birthdays/holidays

She’s a Fleetwood Mac fan

Spends way too much than she'd like to admit on concert tickets

but not like stadium shows, mainly the venues are either dive bars or underground clubs

she'll often try (and fail) to drag Jeff to them. But she usually tries to make friends with people she meets in the concert (that's actually how she met a few of her partners)

a coffee person who collects a bunch of tacky mugs. Abed buys her one every year for her birthday.

she didn't have a good childhood growing up and never had a sister but she and Annie grow to have a close relationship. Sometimes if one is going through something or just needs to talk to someone, they'll be the first one the other calls. Britta spends many nights talking to Annie even when Annie moves away

hiii can you do some community headcanons? maybe stuff about the study room & like what's in it or like how they study? i have finals coming up so maybe it'll be motivational :) i wish i was a part of their group!!

At first when the study group used the space they were always very hesitant to leave anything behind (mainly Annie’s insistence that someone else was going to end up using the space)

But eventually as time wore on, they grew more comfortable (or maybe cared less about what others thought, you choose) and began bringing in little knick knacks

To make it feels more “homey”: Annie brought a bunch of pens (many purple) and a homemade grade school ceramic jar to keep them in. Abed brought in a DVD Bluray copy of The Breakfast Club with intentions of the group watching it (don’t worry he has a 2 disc special edition at home). Troy panic bought a vague “Home is where the heart is” sort of thing in a TJ Maxx, it holds a place of honor. Jeff brought a paper weight from his place. 

For studying the group always tries to bring food (mainly to keep everyone happy). Annie tries to institute a schedule organizer, and this works for about three days before it falls a part for one reason or another. Eventually Shirley is the sole snack bringer. And while she does try to get others to participate, she secretly loves getting to make food for the people she loves.

When it comes to actually studying, Troy and Annie make flashcards, Abed and Britta make a review sheet, and Jeff and Shirley reread the assigned articles. Pierce is just kind of there. 

Of course what’s listed above is a dream scenario, many times though the group will get on track before Annie makes them course correct  

Sometimes if study sessions go later, Jeff and Britta will leave midway through to pick up some dinner, they will inevitably fight in the car on what to get before settling on pizza

Also if study sessions go later, sometimes someone will crash on the couch for a couple hours. Britta eventually brings in a blanket (mind you it’s one of those photo blankets with a giant photo of her cats. Its a little unnerving but very comfy)

Also usually before any exam or test, Jeff will try to give the group a little half hearted pep talk. It helps settle some nerves and even though Jeff pretends he doesn’t put much effort into it, he secretly jots down ideas on a note card the night before

Of course! Sorry for taking so long to respond.

Now many people upon meeting Oliver assume he was raised in NYC

But he actually wasn’t. Turns out Oliver is from a smaller town somewhere in the midwest 

However, his grandmother DID live in the New York City

So when Oliver was younger (say 7 or 8) his grandma took him to his first broadway show: a production of a Midsummer Nights Dream

And once the lights went out and the action on stage unfolded, he fell in love

As a kid who had never grown up with much theater, this was world changing for him

Immediately when he got home, he looked for any opportunity to do theater in his town

Which eventually led him to school theater  

He always had a passion for acting and a ton of energy so this was a good fit

And every Christmas, his grandmother would mail him a vinyl record of a new musical

When doing school theater, many times his mom would be late to pick him up (she worked shifts at a diner)

So his director would wait with him

And eventually, Oliver being the outgoing kid he was, would ask the director about his own thoughts on theater and his favorite musicals

And this gave way to Oliver asking what it was like to direct

Soon Oliver found himself falling in love with a new aspect of theater

Sure it was fun to act, but directing meant he would get to create this magic himself and see his own vision come to life

Whenever he wasn’t on stage, Oliver would watch his director and begin scribbling out his own messy notes on his script basically on what it meant to be a director and the processes involved

So one day after rehearsal, Oliver asked (read: TOLD) his director if he could help direct

And eventually this wish was granted as Oliver was offered the position of an assistant director for the shows

It was beyond wonderful, he was helping create the vision for the shows and even got to be the solo director for a couple scenes

His directing style, I guess I would describe as very excitable

Oliver is not really one to go for subtlety 

He wants to make the audience feel special and invested so he will always go a bit over the top to ensure this, but it’s part of his charm

And sure whenever shows would open, Oliver would always get a small pang in his heart, a slight yearn to be on the stage instead of in the audience

But by the end of the show, he would always have his heart full and tears in his eyes because he created this show. It was his vision, his ideas, and no one could take that away from him

Hence once he went to college and subsequently joined the New York theatre scene, he knew he would always want to direct
