European colonial rule in Africa (Chapter 20) - A History of Sub-Saharan Africa
"European colonial rule in Africa (Chapter 20) - A History of Sub-Saharan Africa" https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/abs/history-of-subsaharan-africa/european-colonial-rule-in-africa/3D2566A43A48D3B9C2649CCDEFF5A45E
It's good to read books but it's better to read international law and your country laws in regards to colonial history. This is the source or at least one of the sources of what shaped our world to make it what it is today.
The first international law that all Black Indigenous People globally need to know is the very laws that took everything from us and this is how Christianity gave the colonizers to take control over most of the world.
The next is scientific racism and how this became laws to justify slavery and the birth of Black discrimination everywhere. This is when races were invented.
These two events is the source of everything white and the dehumanization of everyone else. The people who calls themselves white is nothing but a venomous snake that injects his poison into the minds of the people so they can become self contained slaves and to see the white man as a god.
The only way to break from this spell is to listen to these shit people who calls themselves white speak about you and how they believe in their white superior complex over all humans.
A person who glorifies themselves never accomplished anything on their own they just want you to forget about prehistory and for you to give them credit for something that they never did.

There seems little doubt that in the 1660s and 1670s the legal system of Virginia, consisting of a colony-wide General Court and local county courts, suffered from instability and weakness despite the broad civil, criminal, equitable, and regulatory jurisdiction that both the General Court and the county courts possessed. At root, the problem lay in the large number of landless, recalcitrant former indentured servants whom the colony’s small governing class lacked sufficient power to coerce. The system had to govern by consent since it was too weak to do otherwise.

Gathering notes and informations for writing my fic and oh lordt does the Library of Congress have maps.
Map circa 1754, from Philly to Northern NC. It even has Fort Duquesne!
Distances to spots from major towns in VA
Tumblr media
Importantly, this map traces The Great Waggon Road, which goes through the Appalachians and heads to Philly. At first glance this looks similar to present-day route 81 through the Blue Ridge. Which is a long but pretty drive.
Dumb shit below the cut
Silly names in Virginia you didn't ask about but I am going to tell you anyway:

Dragonville, VA. Apparently situated near the BEST land bridge.
Bonus facts: King And Queen County, VA has the distinction of being one of the few counties in the continental US that had a smaller population recorded in the 2010 census than the 1790 census. It also has one of the most metal seals.

This is pronounced Stawnton, you say, surely? Surely?
No. Its Stanton.

Just, a grist mill. Not the grist mill. Who's grist mill? I dunno, just some grist mill.

There appear to be two Balls (lol) in Lancaster county, VA. Not to be confused with Lancaster county, PA.
Anyway this has been some rambling.

Tea Service in the Shape of Quails
Gujarat (formerly Baroda), India, 1920-30
Silver, gilded silver, ivory
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts display
“The British were not India's only patrons of elegant silver.
Native princes - always engaged in dynamic cultural interchanges with their British overlords - also commissioned silver of the highest quality. Such patronage was nowhere more prominent than in western India, where the rulers of the state of Kutch were champions of their silversmiths. These leaders ensured their region's silver became the best known of India's styles through sponsorship at international exhibitions, beginning with London's Great Exhibition of 1851. This stylishly whimsical tea service in the shape of richly feathered quails was produced by Oomersee Mawjee Jr., son of Kutch's most renowned master silversmith, after he shifted to the employ of another western Indian ruler, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda.”

When white supremacy came to Virginia | Brookings
This is something that most of you don't know how things became the way they are today. This is true American history that is supported by laws written in the late 1600s.

Established in 1585, the entire colony of Roanoke vanished by 1590. The only clue was a strange inscription, 'Croatoan', carved on a tree.
