Christianity in today's world
Tumblr media
With social media being at the forefront of today's world, and everyone being on social media and sharing all of their opinions, whether those opinions are popular or not, sharing their religious views, whether thats Christianity or any other religion as there lots of other religions, I'm here to speak on Christianity in today's world and my view on how it's portrayed in social media. I've been around on social media since the days of myspace, yup I'm a millennial, figures right? Anyway the internet being in everyones hand is both a good and bad thing, I can grab my phone, post a bible verse of the day on any platform, and go back to either scrolling aimlessly and filling my friends or family's inboxes with videos of cute babies doing silly things, or puppies,or kittens, or videos from other christians. We forget that we have the ability to have the bible right in our hand 24/7 whether its a physical bible or an app, or a book you bought on apple book store or google play book store, we have the ability to fully live in God's word, and some of scroll online, or we're out there commenting and not acting Christ like at all, not acting how Christians should behave according to God's word, now this isnt a Christianity call out post, I'm merely speaking on what I've seen. Christianity is one of, if not the most hated group of people on this planet, we're persecuted, mocked, ridiculed, daily, not that we didn't get told this was going to happen, I definitely see lots of people taking it personally, I've even fallen in and taken it personally a couple times.
Being a christian has its challenges in the world, it's definitely something to note, that we as Christians have prayed for so many people, whether that's out of love or not, I can't speak for everyone, but for myself it's definitely out of love. One of the ways Christians have been divided in today's world is when it comes to politics, I've seen Christians call other Christians fake, solely because they didn't want speak politically, but as children of God we're not meant to be divided in any way, we're meant to help each other, lift each other up, pray for others, be one body.
With Christians being on the most popular platforms a lot of us try to post wholesome content, bible verse of the day videos, offer prayer and just be loving, people sometimes seem to forget we're people too and we stumble, we mess up, we make mistakes, BUT we're forgiven we're covered, redeemed, made new, made free. And that's amazing, we have experienced a love so big, so deep, so much more than our human brains can even fathom, that's why we talk the way we do, and preach the gospel, I've seen so many times people talking about how we're forcing our religion down their throats, when that's far from it for most people, I want deny there are definitely people who can be more abrasive than others, and we know church hurt is a very real thing, and again I can only speak for myself when I say this, I'm sorry those people did or said things that were wrong, I don't agree or support their opinion, I do however hope you don't hold onto the way they made you feel that you rise above and show everyone just how amazing you are, and never forget you're fearfully and wonderfully made, you're loved, and those people shouldn't be holding you back from experincing the greatest love you can ever have. You're wonderful, and as Christians in todays world we just keep trying to preach the gospel and walk in love, and show you just how loved you are, and I hope you feel that love every day.

It doesn't matter if American Christians in power are "doing it wrong" or if actually, Jesus said things that contradict their proclaimed values. What matters is that religious groups should not be in a position to legislate their religious beliefs such that it applies to people not beholden to that religion.
In other words, the argument that "Jesus would hate White Christian Nationalism because the Bible shows he was a radical etc etc" doesn't matter because you are meeting them on their terms. If the Bible did say that Jesus hated abortion/poor people/socialism, it still would not be acceptable for Christians to legislate on that basis.
And yet cultural Christianity has brought us to a point where we'd rather pin the problem on a new subset of Christianity whose issue is that they're misinterpreting original doctrine. Y'all have been saying, “Well, they're not Real Christians” for centuries. This is not a problem of a new sect's formation. This is an issue of separation of church & state. In political/legal contexts, it should not matter what the Bible says or doesn't say, or how anyone interprets it, because the Bible has no place in a courtroom. It's literally that simple.
Edited to add: This "The Bible actually says" tactic can have its use in deprogramming individuals who may genuinely benefit from some recognition of their own cognitive dissonance. However, using this strategy as a "gotcha" against the phenomenon as a whole has negligible practical value.

If a transgender person asks you to deadname and misgender them in front of certain people. Misgender them and deadname them in front of those people. It doesn't matter how icky or gross it may feel, it doesn't matter you'd rather be honest. It doesn't matter if there's more of you there. Certain people aren't safe, and honesty IS NOT the best policy when honesty could put them at serious risk. It doesn't matter if there's a crowd, because when there isn't shit goes down.
Be an ally, do what they ask. Understand that the trans person knows more about their situation than you do, and this includes who's safe and who's not. Some one can be "trans friendly" to other people, but not to people they know or specific people. Do as the trans person asks, yes it's uncomfortable, but it's 10 times worse if the person we don't trust finds out. 100 times worse if they have access to us when you're not around.
Respect trans peoples safety. Misgender and deadname when asked.

[Original Washington Post Article]
It's really, really important to remember that the US doesn't support Israel because it just does whatever The Jews™ tell it to. Christian Zionism is extremely powerful and worth reading up on and understanding if you want to end US support for Israel.
(PS. in these prophecies, at the end, the Jews either convert or die)

Honestly, people mocking and hating Christians, even though in our flesh that hurts, and its hard to deal with and we want to react in a way that our flesh wants really is a good way to practice turning the other cheek and praying for those who sin against us, because honestly it's hard fighting your flesh, when you're being treated in a hateful way because of your faith, but the scripture says in Ephians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
which means that we aren't here to being arguing with jessica or paul or whoever because they mocked our faith, we are to turn the other cheek, love our neighbor as ourself, pray for them and show them the love of Christ Jesus who is our Lord in heaven, who laid His life down that we ALL may be saved, you're called to argue or "clap back" at whoever for mocking or persecuting us, because in John 15:18 Jesus says "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you" because He came not abolish the law, but fulfill the law, and call His children to HIm, to take us from where we stand in our lives whether we just two seconds ago gave our lives to Him, or we've been living for Him, or rededicated ourselves to Him, to being like Him and speaking what is right, even if our voices tremble

If it’s so easy for us to believe in the “universe” why is it so hard to believe in God? If we can easily personify the universe by believing that it speaks to us, guides us, and determines our fate, why do you we have such a hard time believing that there is an intimate God who created all things, a God who speaks to us, a God who desires to know us, a God who loves us, and a God who holds our very lives in the palm of His hand? How is it that we can be so quick to give glory to the creation and not to the Creator Himself? Why is it so hard for us to simply believe?
