Throwing that in my face was a low blow. ROB | I know. It was fucked up. For what it's worth, I regretted it as soon as I said it. THEO | [sighs] I gotta be honest with you, it's not worth much. THEO | ...and besides, that's not even what the original argument was about. ROB | Yeah...I've been thinking about what you said. alrighty guys I have Thoughts and Feelings about the hamilton production I saw!
the performers were amazing of course
I think I probably liked Eliza best out of all of them!
both the Hamilton and the Burr actors had the same problem for me tho: they were just. too serious?
let me explain: Leslie Odom’s Burr is serious too, but he’s also fun. he plays along with Hamilton’s antics in the beginning! he’s silently amused and you as the audience can see it! you can watch him become frustrated with Hamilton over time, with never getting what he wants, and he has these little moments of intense emotion that add so much to his character. random ones that come to mind: the way he says “my father wasn’t around” in Dear Theodosia, the upbeat “it’s kind of draining!” when he’s campaigning, the way he gets emotional during the duel, his voice breaking on “this man won’t make an orphan of my daughter”. this Burr just kind of played all of that straight. he even tried to walk away when he first met Hamilton and the “I’m getting nervous” didn’t have that quiet amusement! he seemed annoyed and creeped out! which in my opinion starts their relationship off on the wrong foot
Hamilton was. not really likeable with the way he was played, I’ll be honest. the actor was certainly a better singer than LMM, but I have to give it to Mister Miranda: he knows how to balance out Hamilton’s overall bastardy with likeable traits. this Hamilton was SO dismissive of his family that I wanted to fistfight him! LMM’s Hamilton was also certainly more focused on other things, but he didn’t act ANNOYED whenever his wife dared demand his attention. at the beginning of Take A Break for example, he rolled his eyes and sighed and rubbed his face the entire way across the stage when Eliza insisted he needed to pay attention to his son on his birthday. like?? LMM never seemed outright annoyed with his family as Hamilton. he always conveyed a fondness that’s in my opinion crucial to the character. even in That Would Be Enough, he seemed just harsh when he said “you should have told me” and Eliza is the one who puts his hand on her belly (I think it was Hamilton who did it in the original?), and in Guns And Ships when he gets the letter to come back to the military, he’s already leaving and Eliza has to grab his arm to stop him and only THEN does he kiss her goodbye. Sir if you don’t want your wife I’ll take her!
in Story Of Tonight, Mulligan and Lafayette just take Hamilton’s and Laurens’ mugs and walk away, leaving them alone as they fondly roll their eyes at their friends’ antics, and then they fucking. leave arm in arm. when I say they swaggered off that stage like they were definitely about to have the gayest sex ever
King George was delightful. the guy next to me was only there for him I think, he started laughing every time he just WALKED onstage
they changed the “John Adams doesn’t have a real job anyway” line in Take A Break to “vice president isn’t a real job anyway” which threw me off. they ALSO changed “weehawken. dawn. guns; drawn” to “jersey. dawn”. why,,,,,
the Maria Reynolds actress was too hot. sorry but she was too attractive. couldn’t look at anything else when she was onstage. girl help I’m so homosexual
speaking of her, she and Hamilton made OUT???? like full on, they were fucking swapping spit for several long moments, that was not only one (1) kiss, he literally kissed her more often than he kissed his WIFE, they were going AT IT
Washington was There also but his and Hamilton’s dynamic was off. idk I think it was the way Hamilton was played, he didn’t seem really close to anyone at all but especially not Washington. also Washington didn’t take his hand and raise it at the end of Right Hand Man :(
Hamilton kissed Philip’s forehead when he was dying and that made me die also
I cried at several points and I’m not sorry!
great show would recommend. gonna see it again tomorrow :)

No one asked but heres an itemized list of the little things I love about hamilton that you cant get from the soundtrack alone
The spinning stage (it just offers really cool visuals)
The fact that King Greorge III is still exiting the stage at the start of Right Hand Man.
The way Eliza leans over Angelica on the spiny stage while singing about Hamilton's letters
Philip Schuyler's reaction to the little dance thing Hamilton is doing after he gives his blessing in Helpless
The way Eliza's hair is done it's just so cute
The only time the spiny stage moves counter clockwise is the "rewind" part of Satisfied.
The way Laurens, Lafayette, and mulegen are dancing right before Burr enters in Story Of Tonight (Reprise)
The entire ensemble. Every single one of them, especially the girl with the fluffy chunk of hair that hangs over her eyes/forehead.
The way the ensemble is very still during singles like Wait For It and other really serious parts when they're very active in the rest of the musical.
Seriously the girl in ensemble with the fluffy hair, (she was the bullet in Stay Alive and during Burr and Hamiltons Duel) anyway I want to marry her.
The ensemble carried this entire show and that's why ALL of their arms are so defined.
The fact that Eliza is visibly pregnant in That Would Be Enough (I didn't notice this when i saw the musical live in Seattle back in 2018 tbh I'm not sure if they even did that in that particular showing it wasnt the original cast)
The use of the upper stage thing that shit is dope af
THE WAY ARRON BURR JUMPS UP ON THE RAILING IN GUNS AND SHIPS
The way the ensemble takes the letter Washington wrote to Hamilton in Guns and Ships
Can someone please get the fluffy hair girls name I tried looking and I cannot find her
The fact that Daveed Diggs and Athony Ramos just let their hair down after Act One and theyre different characters, while they just keep taking stuff off Okieriete Onaodowan's head.
The way everyon is standing on something at the end of The Battle of Yorktown. Even the ensemble
I FOUND THE FLUFFY HAIR GIRL HER NAME IS ARIANA DEBOSE AND I LOVE HER
The entire stage tech in Hamilton (must have lost their minds trying to deal with this shit and they deserve everything in the world. )
The fact that Burr and Hamilton are the only ones on stage in Dear Theodosia.
The transition to Lauren's Interlude
The way Hamilton's smile disintegrates after he finds out what happened to Lauren's
The visible frustration on Burrs face everytime he talks about Hamilton's accomplishments
Burr's face in all of Non-Stop
Hamiltoms little footsteps in the "I was chosen for the constitutional convention" part
The fact that they just use a board in Non-Stop as a desk when they have actual desks in every other part of the show.
The way Hamilton smiles at Washington in Non-Stop when he says "Let's Go"
The fact that Thomas Jefferson is in a pink velvet suit.
The fact that Lin-Manuel Miranda got Daveed Diggs to agree to wear that suit.
The way Daveed Diggs portrays Jafferson is just, absolutely superb
The fact that Madison catches Jeffersons Mic drop in Cabinet Battle #1 (ik the stage crew would have killed the director over that if it hit the ground)
The fact that Eliza is beat boxing for Philip in Take A Break
Burr dancing in The Room Where It Happens
The table cloth yank in The Room Where is Happens. Leslie give me your secrets how did you not fall??
Seriously the Hamilton cast likes to stand on tables
"YOU MUST BE OUT OF YOUR GODDAMN MIND-" As Hamilton jumps in cabinet battle #2
The way Madison taps his chest when he says "Which I wrote" in Washington on your side
The way Burr, Madison, and Jefferson kick their feet in "SOUTHERNMOTHERFUCKINGDEMOCRATICREPUBLICANS"
The ensemble, again
Why is Washington the only one with a mic on his ear
Hand quotations King George does with "country" in I Know Him
The way King George looks at Ariana DeBose then says "John Adams"
King George just vibing in The Adam's Administration
Hamilton dropping a stack of papers in The Adam's Administration
This list is getting long so expect a part 2

Was there anything good about Hamilton the musical? My mother brought me tickets to go to it in the Summer and I want to know if I'm going to hate all of it.
Is Hamilton bad from a musical standpoint? (Nope.)
Oh, don’t get me wrong, Anon--when I went to see Hamilton live, I had the same thought & I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. The set design, comedic timing, & choreography (particularly the utilization of the spinning platform) are all incredible. And the songs, of course, are mostly certifiable bops. Most of them. I would say 40 out of 45. It’s not like “Guns & Ships” or “Room Where It Happens” weren’t amazing songs on the soundtrack, but the choreography really adds to the experience, & in the case of songs like “The Reynolds Pamphlet” or “Washington on Your Side” turns it into something really funny. Don’t take your eyes off the stage for a section, honestly.
The only weak-point of the music was, to be honest, whenever Hamilton was on stage; I used to think it was just a “Lin Manuel Miranda problem” because his flow is honestly... weird. I can’t really explain it--I’m a hip-hop dancer & there’s just something wrong with it--but even the man I saw performing as Hamilton couldn’t salvage it.
I assume it’s just a product of how Lin Manuel wrote his parts in the musical, since he admits that he can’t sing (& therefore would rather not) so there’s this weird juxtaposition sometimes where his part sounds really out of place, even when all the actors in a scene are “talk-singing.” (I don’t know, chime in, does anyone else feel me on that?)
The actors are all great as well, the performances & how they work off each other & the comedic timing are all fantastic, like I said. I like a good Broadway show. As a hip hop fan as we, the use of sampling is so insane.
The songs are also partially structured using actual quotes and other things that characters were known for saying or doing, so it’s impressive, all things considered.
---
Is Hamilton Bad from a Historical (Absolutely)
The real annoyance with the Hamilton musical (& why I would assume I’d hate it) is that it’s based off a biography; “Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow”, specifically. It’s a compelling read, but an embarrassingly awful biography.
-
It’s less of a biography on Hamilton’s life & more of a intentionally misleading fluff piece where Hamilton is painted as this heroic, selfless visionary who is wrongfully slandered, which is infuriating on its own but it’s at the expense of painting everyone else around him who slightly inconveniences or holds him accountable for his actions, as the villains.
Some of these people ARE villains, don’t get me wrong (for example, [HERE] is a list of legitimately monstrous things Jefferson is guilty of), but none of the actual horrible things these people did ever come up, it’s all about what THEY did to Hamilton... which usually just amounts to stupid shit like... forcing “him to admit he cheated on his wife,” or “being a battered housewife begging him for help & monetary assistance,” or, (I kid you not) “his wife being too pregnant for Hamilton to have sex with, so he decided he had to cheat,” which is a legitimate argument that Chernow tries to make.
Alexander Hamilton in real life had a hairline temper & the decorum of a child; he pushed away nearly every ally in his party he had & after Washington died he essentially had no political power. None of this is brought up the play, though--or if he is, it’s brought up in a way that intentionally makes you feel bad for him. It’s gross.
The “Pro-Immigrant” Message
LMM is the son of 1st generation immigrants, & as such decided that a “pro immigrant” message was appropriate for the play. After all, Hamilton was an immigrant, right? It’s perfect because it’s something character would believe in, right? Uh... wrong.
Hamilton was the type of immigrant to “close the door behind him,” so to speak. He worked exclusively for the bourgeois & his party (The Federalist Party) was historically anti-immigrant.
He himself used a lot of rhetoric that is popular today among xenophobes; he didn’t like immigrants because he wanted to “preserve American culture.”  He also assumed that the French Revolution was just “meaningless rioting” with no real goal (the “Revolution”, we’re not talking about the “Reign of Terror”) and expressed no real interest in helping refugees.
(Don’t get me wrong, having a message like this obviously isn’t a bad thing, it’s just makes it tone-deaf and bizarre watching it from the perspective of someone who knows this.)
-
Aaron Burr was an Afterthought.
The most confusing thing about the play is how Burr is portrayed. On one hand, he is presented as the villain (he does shoot him, after all) whose opening lines of each song by essentially calling Hamilton a bunch of names. From Hamilton’s perspective, he sings about how Burr is an opportunist who doesn’t have any political beliefs (which is a [LIE], by the way.)
On the other hand, he his presented as a tragic character; he is given songs like “Wait For It” & “Dear Theodosia” to humanize him, he even almost got a tear-jerker of a song after his wife died & he’s singing a reprise to his daughter through his tears, which was ultimately cut for time... (I’ll leave it [HERE] because it’s legitimately beautiful.) These are two very conflicting ways to present a character, but after looking into it a bit more I realized...
--it’s out of place because the sympathetic Burr portrayal was written as a an afterthought.
By some crazy chance, LMM lived in the same complex as Antonio Burr, a distant descendant (I believe he’s a descendant of Burr’s cousin?) Antonio was adamant about defending Burr and correcting a lot of LMM’s misconceptions (because, as I said, the Chernow book paints Burr as cartoonishly evil.) So, Antonio convinced LMM to spend more time in the play humanizing Burr.
It was Antonio’s idea, not LMM’s.
This post is already pretty long so [HERE] is a post I made more in-depth about why Burr’s portrayal is super dishonest (for example, he was actually pro-immigration, whereas the play has him mocking Hamilton for it).
Overall
TL;DR, Hamilton isn’t that bad... as long as you turn your brain off. I personally just pretend that the musical is about Burr instead of Hamilton (“his enemies destroyed his rep, America forgot him,” describes him pretty well.)
I’m sure that you will enjoy yourself, don’t let my complaining dissuade you! (God knows that the actors appreciate the ticket sales right now.)

Litle moments in Hamilton I’ve noticed that make me love this musical even more, in no particular order
(I am going to use actors names if they do something not affecting the plot, otherwise I’m using characters’ names)
when Alexander says “If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it” in Satisfied, the dancers are raising their hands and Anthony and Jasmine bow down and go under them together as a couple (which they are irl)
in Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story, when Eliza says “I speak out against slavery”, you can see Washington being confused and shocked because he was a slave owner, and then he bows to her
in Alexander Hamilton and WLWDWTYS everyone from main cast is dressed like ensemble except for Burr (who lives), Alexander (who dies) and Eliza (who tells your story)
king George in Adams Administration & Reynolds Pamphlet
in My Shot until Alexander calls Burr out, Lafayette, Laurens and Mulligan are singing acapella and it’s only Okieriete who is beatboxing for everyone and when it’s his time to sing, Anthony does it for him
in My Shot when Laurens tells Hamilton about his dream, you can see Daveed mimicing Okierete’s moves and later, in The Story of Tonight (reprise) he does the same
Lin winking at the audience while singing “Hey” at the very beginning of Helpless
Peggy’s dance in Helpless and Satisfied when she’s holding the letters
the repeated choreography in Winter’s Ball, Helpless and Satisfied told/showed from first Hamilton & crew, then Eliza and finally Angelica’s pov
and the repeated choreography in The Room Where it Happens told/showed from first Burr, then Jefferson and then Madison’s pov
the way Daveed runs to deliver the letter in Guns and Ships
Burr gave Hamilton the coat in Right-Hand Man, aka the first time Hamilton bested Burr in something
the little smile Jasmine gave Anthony at the beginning of Saitisfied
when Washington tries to catch a dancer jumping away from him in Right-Hand Man when he sings “BOOM we just the lost the southern tip” like he wanted to save it by himself (because the people he keeps leading keep retreating)
the girl who tells king George about John Adams being the next US president, how she mocks him until she realizes that George is not laughing with her (also, everything about her, she is astonishinng)
the light on Eliza looking at Alexander when she prays for him to Stay Alive
the camera panning around Washington during History Has Its Eyes On You
everything about Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)
everything about Jonathan Groff’s portrayal of king George
Burr praying for his daughter in Dear Theodosia
Hamilton seeing Lauren’s ghost in Tomorrow They’ll be More of Us and realizing he will never see him again - which makes him work non-stop like he’s running out of time himself
act 1 ends with Hamilton and Washington (on his side) standing on top of the stairs; act 2 begins with Burr introducing Thomas Jefferson in the very same spot, with Burr and Jefferson later becoming Hamilton’s enemies
David Diggs’ facial expressions in literally everything
Philippa and Anthony by the piano in Take a Break when focus shifts on Alexander and Angelica writing letters; I just love how they interact together and Pippa’s playing with his hair and they talk like they’re real mother and son
The Bullet. She celebrates with Laurens in Yorktown after they kill a redcoat, only to be revealed later that somebody shot Laurens to death. She tells Philip where to find George, the man who’s going to kill him. She gave Burr the quill to write the letterswhich will eventually lead to Hamilton’s death.
Philip watching from the balcony when Hamilton tells Jefferson, Burr and Madison about his affair in We Know
the choroeography in Hurracine, it really looks like Hamilton is in the eye of hurricane
Jefferson’s reaction in Reynolds Pamphlet
Anthony portraining Philip’s death in slow-mo in Stay Alive (reprise)
Philip’s heartbeat in Stay Alive (reprise) as the music beat?????? how????? i love it so much???
Alexander’s face when Eliza takes his hand in It’s Quiet Uptown
how that one girl delivers Burr a letter from Hamilton in Your Obediant Servant

okay time for a theatre hot take about historical musicals. im gonna split this into two posts, one about hamilton and one about six. because while the easiest way to put it is “hamilton bad six good”, there’s a bit more nuance to my opinion on them both than that.
First off, all the cast members are insanely talented, especially Leslie Odom Jr, Daveed Diggs, Christopher Jackson, Phillipa Soo, and Reneé Elise Goldberry. Even though the people they played were varying degrees of assholes, they managed to make them feel compelling. Credit where its due.
anyway, lmm is a good songwriter, the issues with hamilton come from the glorification of the historical figures portrayed. if hamilton was more critical of these individuals, it might not have been such a... yeah.
the hardest hitting songs are the songs that delve into the personal lives of the individuals rather than politics. Satisfied, Wait for It, Helpless, Burn, Dear Theodosia, It’s Quiet Uptown... these are all incredibly emotional and raw. Aaron Burr was a fascinating individual and all of his songs reflect this, honestly. IRL, Burr was actually one of the least scummy of the cast, though because he wasn’t very fond of Hamilton, he is villanized. unsexy. Leslie Odom Jr. has such a powerful voice and does an incredible job as Burr.
some of the songs about the war are also decent works. Stay Alive talks about the actual conditions the American militia put themselves through, and The World Turned Upside Down, while it’s a very patriotic (ew) pov, is still a well written victory anthem. the most interesting one is History Has It’s Eyes on You, and having Washington sing it was a great choice. it’s one of the few songs where a founding father is looked at critically for their failings, and said founding father point blank says that those who come next will judge whatever you do. Christopher Jackson is an amazing vocalist and he actually has talked about his struggle to play Washington despite Washington being a dick.
the songs about politics tend to fall flat because they oversimplify the actual views of the main character and paint everyone around him as either a villain or ally based on whether they liked Hamilton. the cabinet battles especially are pretty cringe. there are a couple exceptions that I’ll discuss in a moment, but first, a character analysis tangent.
Thomas Jefferson is... an interesting case. Irl, the man was a disaster of a person. He came down with migraines from talking to women, was generally considered a weirdo, and was the original “rich person who buys expensive versions of the ugliest clothes and acts like he’s presentable”. Yet aside from one line in It Must Be Nice, he’s portrayed as a extravagant, dramatic, yet mildly charming asshole. His costume is bright purple, he carries a fancy cane. Like, ignoring the fact that its inappropriate to ever make Thomas Jefferson seem charming, this isn’t even accurate to who he was as a person. He was less sociable than Isaac Newton for fucks sake. The only accurate thing is being a france weeb and being a worse debater than Hamilton.
Anyway, speaking of It Must Be Nice, its one of the few good political songs. It’s critical of Hamilton and it explains why the Madison and Jefferson hate his guts (though for stupid reasons). Furthermore, it also explains the political climate of the day better than other political songs in the musical. The other two good ones are, of course, The Room Where it Happens and Your Obedient Servant.
The Room Where It Happens is not only an amazing breaking point for Burr to stop waiting around, it’s the one time in the musical where the real Alexander Hamilton is best represented. (Hamilton in yellow, Burr in blue)
“Or did you know even then it doesn't matter where you put the U.S. capital?
Cause we'll have the banks, we're in the same spot
You got more than you gave
And I wanted what I got
When you got skin in the game, you stay in the game
But you don't get a win unless you play in the game
Oh, you get love for it, you get hate for it
But you get nothing if you wait for it
God help and forgive me
I wanna build something that's gonna outlive me.”
This is the real Hamilton. The facade of caring about ideals is gone, and the truth is bared; Alexander Hamilton was a smooth talker who only did things when he saw it could benefit him in some way. The man was obsessed with his legacy, and anything that got in the way of him building one was just collateral. Yes he was crass and loud, but guess what? That usually meant he was heard over everyone else. Burr only just realized that the whole “scrappy underdog” act was just that; an act
Your Obedient Servant is Burr calling out Hamilton for going back on everything he claimed to believe just to keep Burr from the nomination. Fun fact: the 1800 election was not a landslide victory. It was incredibly close. Hamilton’s endorsement was probably what kept it from being a tie.
Hamilton tries to defend himself by projecting his flaws onto Burr. “I am not the reason no one trusts you, no one knows what you believe” isn’t an accurate depiction of Burr in the slightest. Burr actually quite enjoyed politics and debates, and none of his setbacks ever kept him down for long. He cared very little for what his contemporaries thought of him though: He relied on the merits of his points. A lot of his correspondence was left to his daughter, Theodosia, and was lost on the shipwreck that killed her, so theres a lot we don’t know about him. But the musical depiction of him is not really accurate.
The problem with Hamilton isnt that it’s a musical about the founding fathers. Its that it grossly misrepresents those founding fathers. It never considers the thoughts of the slaves of any of the main characters. It never considers the Native American perspective on the Revolutionary War. It mocks John Adams, despite him being one of the few founding fathers who not only didn’t own slaves, but publicly berated his contemporaries for relying on slavery. It does a great deal of injustice to Burr. It woobifies the Schylers. For fucks sake, it forgot Benedict Arnold. Ya know, one of the most famous spies? Who almost cost America the War?
Its impact on modern political discussion and internet culture is also kind of a net negative, save for the production “The Haunting of LMM”. Its status as a fucking joke these days is earned. Though it has some good songs, and the fact that it got an official recording means good things for the future of Broadway accessibility, it’s a hot mess and is an example of how not to do a historical musical.

Nakawe Palace // Armorican State Visit - Day 2
EMILY | [sniffling] THEO | Oh! Sorry, didn't mean to intrude— EMILY | Go away. EMILY | Wait. I'm being rude. You're with the Royal Foundation, right? Theo Adams? THEO | Yeah...Lady Emily, right? Are you okay? What's wrong? EMILY | [sighs] Men. THEO | Oh honey. THEO | What happened? EMILY | [sighs] I'm an idiot and I wasted two years of my life. Frederick doesn't care about me and he's never going to propose. THEO | Don't put yourself down. He cares about you— EMILY | Then why am I still just his stupid girlfriend? I helped with every part of this state visit, but since I don't have a ring, I have to go stand in the corner when the cameras come out. It's humiliating. THEO | It's not you. Maybe he's just not ready to get married. EMILY | [scoffs] Well, why not? We've been together for a year and a half! EMILY | When we started dating, he said he wanted to get serious right away because he was looking for a wife. And now he's dragging his feet for no reason. EMILY | I feel like such an idiot. When I started seeing him, I told myself I'd never be like this, crying over some stupid boy. And now look at me. THEO | Crying over dumb boys is the cost of dating them, I'm afraid. EMILY | That's the worst part, I never even wanted to date him! EMILY | All I wanted was someone with money and a title to look after me. He was single and I thought, "well, why not a prince?" I didn't mean to fall for him! THEO | Does he know that's why you started dating him? EMILY | Well...he must. He started dating me because I'm the right sort of girl. Isn't it obvious that I started dating him because he's the right sort of boy? THEO | Still. Doesn't he deserve to know? Even if your feelings changed along the way, you should come clean. You can't build a relationship on a lie. EMILY | Won't he be angry? Why start an argument if we can just avoid it? FREDERICK | Um. Hi...am I interrupting? THEO | Hey. EMILY | [gasps] Frederick— FREDERICK | Uh...I didn't know that you two knew each other. THEO | We just met, actually. FREDERICK | Oh. Well. Uh, Emily...can we talk? THEO | ...I should go. Good seeing you. FREDERICK | Yeah. Good to see you. THEO | Bye, Freddy. FREDERICK | ... EMILY | Frederick? FREDERICK | So...this is kinda awkward. EMILY | Kinda. Yeah. FREDERICK | [offscreen] I'm bad at this kind of thing. So I guess I'll just say it...

❌ OKAY, we got distracted during the intermission—wild animal got in, don’t worry about it, hotel’s fine—but we finally got through the whole show. So, here it is, by popular request, after like FOUR MONTHS of trying to track down this show:
🎵 Alastor gives his opinion on Hamilton 🎵
❌ So I didn’t type out EVERY ONE of Alastor’s reactions, since half of them were just humming along whenever a song used a motif from an earlier song or laughing at the jokes. A lot of the songs I didn’t type anything for. Message him if you’re desperate to know how he feels about your fave. Or if you want to listen to him ramble more about one of the songs, I’m SURE he has more to say, this is just as much as he could squeeze out around, y’know, actually watching the show. But I’m not typing more for him, I’ve done my duty.
❌ He says his favorites were “Helpless,” “Wait For It,” “History Has Its Eyes on You,” “What’d I Miss,” “Room Where It Happens,” “Burn,” “Your Obedient Servant,” and “every single time Lafayette opens his mouth.”
“Alexander Hamilton”
🎶 “There’s not a lot of singing in this song, is there? It’s more like poetry.”
❌ And right after that they switched from rapping to singing, lol. He didn’t say much past that, though—he went quiet pretty quick. Trying to keep up with the lyrics probably. (I’m already missing lines. I don’t care, I’m gonna watch it again with Charlie.)
“Aaron Burr, Sir”
🎶 “Oh, that’s French!”
🎶 “Now, I could be mistaken, but I’m fairly certain that all these gentlemen were white. This is an improvement!”
“The Schuyler Sisters”
❌ He raised an imaginary glass to the first couple lines of the song. I mean he’s not wrong.
🎶 “So does the entire show consist of patter songs? Interesting.”
❌ I had to look it up, a patter song is basically a tongue-twister song with really fast lyrics. They happen in comedy operas and stuff. I think he’s talking about the rap. I think he thinks that rap is just a kind of patter song.
🎶 “I bet this played well in New York.
“Farmer Refuted”
🎶 “This is one of the songs that got recommended to me. I don’t know why. The earlier songs were much more intriguing. This one’s clever enough, but not a stand-out.
“You’ll Be Back”
❌ We got an ask about this one so I elbowed him to pay attention. I probably didn’t need to, he spent half of it laughing.
🎶 “Oh, would you... just—look at that complete lack of dancing. He’s a wax statue. Look at him.”
❌ I said “I love his lack of energy. Go king, give us nothing,” and Alastor slid off the couch laughing, so none of you are allowed to tell him I quoted a meme.
“Right Hand Man”
🎶 “I wish they’d sing more rather than just recite. And I’m not a fan of all the... synthetic beatboxing.”
❌ I think he means the hip hop beats. How does he know what beatboxing is but not hip hop?
🎶 “Oh! ‘Modern Major General’ reference!”
“Helpless”
❌ He spent most of this one sorta bopping along. I think this might be the first song he’s genuinely had fun with. The king being energyless aside.
🎶 “Do you think they have a real electric organ hidden somewhere, or is prerecorded? No, wait, I think live musicians are still legally mandatory at Broadway show, aren’t they?”
❌ I didn’t even hear the organ. Does Broadway really have a law about live music??
“Satisfied”
🎶 “All right. I’m sold.”
“Guns and Ships”
🎶 “This is another of the ones I was sent. It flows better now, hearing it after all the other songs in the same style. Good Lord, he really is fast, isn’t he!”
“Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)”
❌ I sorta cheered at the line about immigrants and Alastor laughed at me.
🎶 “More battle scenes need to be danced.”
“Dear Theodosia”
🎶 “The war’s already over? Goodness, this show is moving fast.”
“Non-Stop”
🎶 “This is another one I was sent. I think there’s one more?”
🎶 “Too beatbox-y.”
🎶 “The turning stage is clever! That’s fine staging.”
🎶 “When I first heard this one I thought it was a bit disjointed, I suspected it was reusing themes from earlier in the show. I was right! And I was right that it was the act one finale! Do I know Broadway or do I know Broadway?”
❌ (And during intermission Alastor went to get a snack and that’s when the wild animal got in and distracted us for two hours. ... In retrospect, maybe the animal was supposed to be his snack.)
“What'd I Miss?”
🎶 “This! This is my favorite song so far!”
🎶 “And my favorite coat so far! Look at him!”
❌ Context: Jefferson is wearing a long red coat. Surprise.
🎶 “Listen to this! This is fun! This is jazzy! I even hear a walking bass in there!” (I have no idea what that means.) “Oh, I hope this fellow sticks around! Jefferson buys Louisiana, he’s got to be important to the show, right? They’ll keep him arou—Hold everything, is that Lafayette?!”
❌ I looked it up. Yep, Jefferson is the same performer as Lafayette.
🎶 “When tryouts open in Hell, I’m calling dibs on playing him.”
“Cabinet Battle #1”
🎶 “Never mind, I’m not playing him. That's not my performing style. I can’t do that.”
“Say No to This”
🎶 “Can't relate!”
“Room Where It Happens”
🎶 “This is the last song I was sent.”
🎶 “I don’t even remember this fellow from history. Do you remember him? I’d have forgotten his name by now if Hamilton didn’t keep calling him Burr, Sir.”
🎶 “This one’s fantastic when he gets into it. It still reminds me of ‘Heaven on Their Minds’—one of the good versions, the shouty ones—do you hear what I mean?”
❌ I do not hear what he means. I do not know what he’s talking about.
🎶 “There’s quite a bit going on in this one, isn’t there! Oh, you can hear Jefferson crawling all over this song. I enjoy the Hell out of his sound. All the banjo and ragtime and spirituals and jazz—old school jazz, too, the real stuff—God, this is a good one! I’ll have to listen to the whole show again to pick out the other characters’ musical motifs, Jefferson’s style is easy to pick out because—hah, well, it’s practically the same as my style, isn’t it?”
❌ He kept talking about “Room Where It Happens” halfway into the next song.
“Cabinet Battle #2”
🎶 “Hm... no. No, definitely not my performing style. It's less a patter song and more... spoken word poetry. Isn’t it?”
“Washington On Your Side”
🎶 “... But it COULD be done as a patter song, couldn't it? I could MAKE it my performing style...”
“I Know Him”
🎶 “Bless these lifeless interludes from King George."
"The Adams Administration"
🎶 “Creole WHAT?! Excuse me?! Oh, that better not be a historical quote. Did he go to Hell, is he in Hell?”
❌ If the answer is “yes,” I’m pretty sure Alastor is lowkey planning to hunt him down and spit in his face. Or eat him? IDK, hard to guess with him.
"Burn"
🎶 "This is one of the more Broadway ones, I like this."
“It's Quiet Uptown”
🎶 “Oh, this won't play well in Hell.”
“Your Obedient Servant”
🎶 “Why, when the singing is good, is the background music so annoying?”
❌ It took him like a minute to decide:
🎶 “It's the drum kit.”
❌ He says that, but he’s drumming his fingers in time to the song.
“Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story”
🎶 “They really gave Eliza the best parts, didn’t they?”
❌ Aaand that’s it, we’re done!
❌ But he’s got that “I want to keep talking and Lucifer himself couldn’t shut me up” look he gets sometimes, so uh, feel free to ask him follow-up questions and spare me from having to fend off his chatter.

Note
3, 15, 22, 29 for the identity ask!
3: List your fandoms and one character from each that you identify with.
Oh this might be. long. I’ll try to keep it short? I have many interests lol
Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos: Theodosia Throckmorton
Frankenstein: Henry Clerval or like. Mental Breakdown Victor Frankenstein, at any given moment
The Inquisitor’s Apprentice: Maximilian Wolf
Jekyll & Hyde: Gabriel Utterson
1776: uhhh Lyman Hall or John Adams probably
Brave: Merida (I even picked up the whole archery-on-horseback thing lol)
M*A*S*H: Charles, probably, lol
Hogan’s Heroes: LeBeau
Mary Poppins: Mrs. Banks
The Magnus Archives: is it bad that my answer is Peter Lukas??
Gravity Falls: Fiddleford McGucket. I have been told repeatedly that I am like him for Various Reasons.
Kingsman: Merlin
I’m not into a ton of traditional fandom stuff anymore so that’s my short list, not including (most) historical fiction things and any of the old fandoms I’ve been part of over the years. I’m also a big fan of The King’s Speech but it felt wrong to pick someone from that because it’s so close to current history?
15: Five most influential books over your lifetime?
Ooohh what a good question…Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos, Now You See Them Now You Don’t: My Life in the Magic Bars of Chicago, Hocus Pocus: A Tale of Magnificent Magicians, The King's Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy, and then I have this biography of RFK that I don’t know the name of offhand but that one deserves to be on this list too! Honorable mentions go to of course The Killer Angels, and All The Light We Cannot See.
22: List the top five things you spend the most time doing, in order.
From most to least, relatively, in order: writing, singing/playing/listening to music, doing genealogical research, cooking, studying Torah/taking part in services at shul.
29: Three songs that you connect with right now.
Ooh this one’s good too!
First one would have to be Why Would I Now by The Decemberists, then Fearless by MALINDA, then I Take the Back Roads by Jerry Salley! Honorable mentions go to Dread In My Heart (Mother Mother) and Back Home or Beautiful Times (Owl City).

Things I loved when I saw Hamilton
These are all the things I would never have known about if I hadn’t seen the actual Hamilton show:
King George the third coming over the loudspeakers and welcoming us to “his” show
All the characters stand on different parts of the stage when stating what they were to Hamilton
Mulligan kicking up his leg when Alex says “I think your pants look hot!”
Hamilton Cast Mannequin Challenge during Alex’s monologue about death in “My Shot”
Nobody else is on stage during “The Story of Tonight”, which literally makes all of the atmosphere
Samuel Seabury being extra and trying to cover up Alex during their discussion in “Farmer Refuted”
The ensemble hastily running out when King George angrily states “EVERYBODY!” in “You’ll Be Back”
Alex placing his hand out to shake Burr’s hand when they meet in Washington’s office, but Burr turning his back towards him and Alex then looking down on his own hand slightly disappointed
The characters do most of the same choreography from the two last songs when they rewind in “Satisfied”
The ensemble being almost completely still during “Wait For It”, leaving Burr to stand alone
Eliza on the top part of the stage singing “Stay Aliiiiiive”
A “bullet” literally going right over Alex’s head
Charles Lee’s extra-ness when being mad about Washington
Hamilton and Washington standing real close during “Meet Me Inside”
Eliza holding her hands on her stomach during most of “That Would Be Enough”
Chairs being turned upside down when everyone sings “The world turned upside down”
The cast standing on top of those chairs to state “We won!”
King George stomping his foot after saying “I’m so blue” and the light turning blue
Burr and Hamilton sitting on chairs in the other person’s colour in “Dear Theodosia” (Alex’s colour being green, while sitting on a purple chair, Burr’s colour being purple while sitting on a green chair)
THAT SCENE MADE ME CRY
Laurens’ lone voice singing “Tomorrow there’ll be more of us”
Lafayette and Mulligan reading the letters at the same time as Alex on the top part of the stage
Burr coming in and immediately starting “Non-Stop” so Alex has to hastily dry his tears
Eliza and Angelica holding on to each of Alex’s hands and him having to drag them free while singing “I am not throwing away my shot”
(I panicked during break cause I couldn’t decide what to buy in the shop)
Thomas Jefferson is Extra
They all hold actual microphones during both of the Cabinet Battles
Eliza beatboxing to Philip’s rapping in “Take A Break”
Alex looking up at the audience when going “Fuuuuuu...” in “Say No To This”
All of the choreography in “The Room Where It Happens” honestly
Thomas Jefferson is Extra Part 2
King George doesn’t have his cape anymore in “I know him”
King George sitting on the side and looking really content during “The Adams Administration”
Alex shouting “You fat motherf*cker” and dropping a literal stack of papers on the floor
Ominous walking and glances in “We know”
Things flying and the ensemble dancing fast and then slow around Alex in “Hurricane”
Maria Reynolds is the one to give Alex the pen
Papers are flying during “The Reynolds Pamphlet”
Maria Reynolds’ face reminded me that Alex didn’t only ruin his own reputation when writing about what happened
Thomas Jefferson is Extra Part 3 (He dances on his back on Alex’s table while singing “Never gonna be president now!”)
King George comes on and dances around, mocking Hamilton and looking real happy
The Emotion!!! in “Burn”. You can feel the hurt.
Philip holds his pose, gun in the air, while people drag him onto a bed
Eliza’s anguished scream after Philip dies
The transition music before “It’s Quiet Uptown” starts is literally “The Story of Tonight”, calling back to Laurens
Almost everyone wearing something black
The rest of the cast not present in the song standing over Alex and Eliza on the top part of the stage
Eliza refusing to look at Alex before the last seconds of the song
The tears on both of their faces being lit up by the stage light (I was crying too)
Madison has to dry his tears in the beginning of “The Election of 1800”
Thomas Jefferson is still Extra
Alex and Burr sit in each other’s chairs again in “Your Obedient Servant”
Hamilton, Burr, and their “seconds” are the only ones wearing black while the rest of the cast are wearing white when they meet for their duel
The slow motion bullet
Eliza stands between Alex and Burr when Alex speaks about/to her
The cast leaves the stage, leaving Burr alonewhen Burr sings “Now I’m the villain in your history”
Alex slowly appears on the top part of the stage when Burr sings “The world was wide enough”
Alexander appears behind Eliza near the end of the last song
She doesn’t see him until the last moments, when she takes his arm in hers
Bonus (Other things I loved):
The Set Design!! Is Awesome!!!!!!!!!
The costumes!!!!
The London Cast was amazing!
However much I love Philippa Soo, Sharon Rose was absolutely perfect for the role of Eliza. She brought a lot of emotions and has a really beautiful voice.
I really loved this version of King George and Thomas Jefferson
Hercules Mulligan is such a great character

Hamilton as Maribat
Helloooooo, so I have seen other people do Maribat x Hamilton, so I have made character dot points and whatnot (I have posted this on one of my other blogs ages ago but I have heavily edited it and changed it, so I decided to post it here instead)
- As a musical obsessed idiot, what about jasonette as “Hamilton”?????? Anyone ?? Like I don’t read it really watch Batman or dc, like except when it was on tv and I was bored (no offence to dc fans) so I only really know the characters through wiki and fanfic what a character is like, So if I mess up the characters and it isn’t like what they are at all, I’m sorry dc fans!!!! (I’m only familiar with the Miraculous characters) So onto the characters!!! (Ps in this Jason ain’t going to die from the joker as a teen and be brought back to life unless you want to, I just don’t think it will make a lot of sense since Hamilton is based on a real-life story, and I don’t Lazarus pits exist in this world, unless …)
Alexander Hamilton - Jason Todd. So from what I can tell he likes literature and has a fairly good grasp at it. In the dc universe, he was a street kid, so it’s like after Hamilton’s parents died, they both did what they do to survive. Like both their fathers left (Technically he died, but you can make whatever you want ) and both their mums died ( Jason’s mum has a drug overdose I think, and Hamilton’s mum died from a fever ) so you could change it to that the mum did drugs ( though I would doubt she would be able to afford it at the time Hamilton takes place, or if you are changing the time it could be different) and they both had to do whatever it took to survive, by stealing, bartering and all that good stuff…
Eliza Hamilton - Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Like Eliza and Marinette are just sweethearts who are both hopeless romantics (get the reference?) And they both are just nice, good people who probably trust and fall in love too easily. Like I could totally see Eliza as Marinette and they both setting up orphanages and Marinette making baked goods for them and then the little kids being grateful and just ahhhhh!!!
Angelica - Kagami (since I ship Alya with Nino too much) the look similar and both are fiercely loyal to ones they love and won't be afraid to hurt someone's feelings and both have a legacy to hold up (Like Angelica has to marry a rich guy because she is a firstborn Female, while Kagami has to hold up the family name in fencing by being the best) Whilst their personalities may be different as in Kagami is not very emotional often being cold, they still are similar a lot more ways than one could think
Peggy - This could be a DC character because besides Sabrina (who I kinda feel like it could be a bit weird to be Peggy and having a sister bond with Marinette and Kagami). It could be Chole but I feel like Chole would have more character than Peggy does
Phillip Schuyler (Eliza’s, Angelica's and Peggy’s dad) - It could be Mayor Boursiour (I hope I spelt it correctly) since he is a politician (a good one can be debatable) or Tom Dupain-Cheng, or even Tomoe (Kagami’s canon mother)
Phillip Hamilton (Eliza and Alexander’s son) - I think this has to be an OC character since like it would feel weird for a canon character to be their child, but I don't know.
Aron Burr - It could be quite a few characters, like maybe Adrien, because both are adamant on standing on the sidelines instead of taking initiative. Other characters could be Roy Harper since from what I have heard, in the dc universe they are good mates (I'm not sure though), it could even be Bruce Wayne, maybe, I’m not sure though. I wouldn’t think joker would be him since like in “the world was wide enough” and the scene where Hamilton was about to die, he was saying “Bur, my first friend, my enemy” and I don’t think the joker would be friends with Jason though… or maybe Nino?? And he married Alya, who is Theodosia????? I don’t know I’m just throwing some ideas around people!!
Maria Reynolds - Lila Rossi. Come on people, it seems pretty perfect to me (not saying that Lila is a slut or anyone, just to be clear) both of them are using others to gain themselves and Lila has shown that she can get very touchy. I think in Hamilton, the lady lies about her situation (but I am not sure), and Lila just lies about everything, to be honest. So yeahhhh
Hamilton’s friends - Bat brothers, aka Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne (or his last name before moving to Gotham). Like I’m not sure who Damian would be, but I feel like Laurence would be Dick though since they both have similar personalities (in my opinion)
Thomas Jefferson - ???. I’m not sure who can fit in this category tbh. Maybe It could be Black Mask (i don't know his character a lot I just found out he was an arch-enemy towards Jason)
John Adams - ???. I really don't know who it could be tbh but you could another Gotham villain
King George III - I think this one is Joker since they both seem insane (well joker is obviously insane whilst King George seems insane in the musical, or at least high on something)
Ok so I think that’s all the main characters sorted out, so what do you think??? I probably won’t write it (maybe if I learn peoples actual background and come up with a timeline), but anyone can use this idea as long as you credit me, or mention this was my idea, and please tag me if you do do it!!! I would love to see your works!!
If you change this idea a bit and Jason is adopted by Bruce in the modern era, then the two people can meet at a Wayne Gala??? There can be a lot of things that change in this depending on what year it is based and what it is most similar to.
I hope this idea can be inspirational and I hope to see someone do something with this idea (I don’t think anyone would see this) and I can’t wait to see what people might do to this idea!
