My first post here was TEN YEARS AGO today, so here's a little story about how this Tumblr came to be.

I've been sharing my artwork online since about 2007. Before Tumblr I posted frequently on the now-defunct ConceptArt.org forums, sometimes on DeviantArt, and a little bit on Blogspot. On a couple of occasions my brother Nik told me that I should start a Tumblr, but I wasn't so sure about the idea. Social media made me uncomfortable and I wasn't exactly great at communicating with strangers on the internet. That's still true today. (Apologies to everyone who sends me asks and DMs, I really appreciate them all even if I'm not always good at responding.)

On January 9th, 2012, I was eating lunch at work when Nik sent me a text with a link to chriskotiesen.tumblr.com. He made it for me. It looked like this:

He gave me the password and suggested that I delete that stuff and start uploading my own work before Google cached the page and this became the top search result for my name.

I still wasn't sure about this site, so after taking the screenshot above I erased the content and left the page blank for more than 2 years. I became a CGHub user, but soon after the sudden collapse of that site in April 2014, I deciding to finally try using this account.

thinking about how on twitter a lot of us held our breath for it to implode and just die as a site like cghub did but

the current development honestly..yeah it makes sense =__=

basically everyone who doesn't pay for the bluecheckmark's posts are suppressed as hell

so the only way to get the same amount of reach we used to have is by paying the billionaire baby for it. (i personally shant but i cant judge other artists for doing so cause, it's scary having your livelihood threatened like that. im scared but..hoping i can make do by being diligent with multiple social medias)

im just musing over how it feels like we got the end result we all expected (twitter turning into the an inhospitable place for communities and indie/small artists especially commission artists), but not in the way a lot of us expected

a weird limbo feeling of both i guess im glad the main place i get business from is still hanging on by a thread, but also feels like it's not really too different from if it died ? //idk maybe im viewing it too smallmindedly

#tbt to early 2011 when I did these mascots. The hamster is for an artist community system @tarobly, and the girl is for the website that runs on it - come to think of it, it outlived CGhub (also even crazier: I still like the art so here we go). Now that I look at these I can't remember why did I abandon anime style, I used to enjoy it so much? huh

I’m taking on 3d commissions folks!

Money’s really tight lately, and I’m having serious issues finding a job, so I’m gonna start taking 3d commissions! This is something I’ve wanted to do for years, but never had the time to start up.

“What kinds of models?” Glad ya asked!

Pretty much anything! Props, characters, scenery, weapons, etc! As long as you have a reference image, I’ll model it! I’ll do several renders, and for characters I’ll even do several poses!

“Why should I buy a model?”

Well for 2d artists, 3d models can be beneficial, especially with high detail scenes for a particular shot. Art programs like Clip Studio Paint can import 3d models to use as part of the composition, or as reference to draw over, and I can export in CSP friendly formats!

If you’re not an artist and just looking for new artwork of your OC, you get the benefit of seeing your character in full 3d! All my models will end up on Sketchfab, allowing you to move around it and see every detail! Plus you get several high definition renders in various poses, and in the size of your choice! Want a print ready poster? Or a new desktop wallpaper? Heck, even something you can use on a custom Daki!

I’m also working on a VRChat workflow, so I’ll be able to make custom avatars and items for that very soon!

“Sounds neat so far, what are your prices?”

A little pricey, but well worth it! Unfortunately it’s impossible to give a specific breakdown of price for ALL 3d models in general, since the amount of work involved could vary greatly, but I’ll give ya the bottom line of pricing below. Basically the lowest price I can offer. However, depending on the subject and the estimated time, it’s likely the final estimate will be higher.

Low Poly Character Model: $150 usd

High Poly Character Model: $275 usd

Props (Including weapons and everyday objects): $25 usd

Indoor Environments: $60 usd

Outdoor Environments: $80 usd

Again, these are just the base prices! Contact me here through IM or Asks, and be sure to bring a reference image or two. We’ll discuss what all ya want, features to include such as materials and modeling styles, and I’ll get ya an estimate to see if it’s something ya wanna move forward with!

“Do you have a portfolio of works?”

I do indeed! I’ve been doing 3d modelling for a little over 10 years now, but I’ve been mostly quiet about my work, and it doesn’t help I lost alot of old work from a hdd failure about 6 years back and CGHub shutting down, so I don’t have much on my portfolio these days, but here’s some links:
