Straight love stories are like: we saw each other and thought they were hot, we kissed and now we’re in love
Queer love stories are like: “He is half of my soul as the poets say”, “I would've loved you if we had more time”, “He was a boy made of fire who'd been turned to frost. He was meant to burn”, “all the people are fake. Theyre made out of metal. But I like you… and that is not fake”, “Ismail Shah, did he forget the color of Isfahan's sky?”

so i just finished reading Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas and holy shit. i'm in tears. this book literally owns my whole heart.
apart from the incredible trans and queer rep, beautifully written characters, and perfectly detailed storyline, this book is just. amazing. i love it so much.
yadriel's character is written with so much depth and it's just so realistically perfect. i want to write an entire essay about how well written all of the characters are and how much i love julian and maritza but im too lazy
Currently Listening: Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
I wanted to read this since I first heard of it, so I was really excited when I saw that my library got the audiobook on Libby. I put it on hold, and got it like 2 days later, and I'm already liking it. My dreary, rainy, football traffic drive to work was made heaps better by the first few chapters.
Belated Happy Trans Day of Visibility! Unfortunately our promo for this episode is a month late, but the episode is still available for streaming on Spotify and other podcast sites. Links in our bio!
Dear @aidenschmaiden (not expecting him to see this lol I just want to get my feelings and opinions about his books out)
It was my birthday a few days ago and I bought the Sunbearer Trials with the money I got. I already had Cemetery Boys and I had high hopes and they were blown out of the water. To say I loved it was an understatement. Im gay, trans, and hispanic and identify with your characters and writing so much. I breezed through the book in 1 day because I just couldnt put it down. I am autistic and have severe social anxiety and find comfort and an escape in books. I have trouble visualizing stuff though but your writing just sucks me right in like Im there as well.
Anyways! If by a one in a million chance you are reading this can you tell me a random fact about Julian or Aurelio possibly?
Edit: I just realized there were so many spelling mistakes in the og post 😭 thats what I get for typing so fast
Got a bunch of book-ish stickers from my friend’s etsy shop! Reliving my high school days with this composition notebook Kindle cover 😁 Check out The Rainbow Bookshelf for cool queer book stickers!
In lieu of Stuff Your Kindle day, can we talk about the issue of how the m/m genre of books, romance or not, is almost entirely dominated by women? Can we talk about how the most recognisable gay couples in media are written by women? Can we talk about how queer men can't even write about ourselves, how we are only allowed to exist when it's from the point of view of a straight woman sexualising us?
Can we talk about that? Or am I going to get called misogynistic for pointing out the disparity between who gets the writing deals, & who gets their books turned into movies, & whose shit gets popular versus whose doesn't? Can we talk about how m/m fiction is only allowed when it appeals to a cishet gaze, or is that too much for tumblr to take?
Can we also talk about how trans queer men are even more hated by publishing? Can we talk about how we get shit from both sides? Can we talk about how books about the experiences of being a queer man, written by queer men, never get the same recognition as books written by women on this subject (barring academia which has its own problems)?
