Dear @aidenschmaiden (not expecting him to see this lol I just want to get my feelings and opinions about his books out)
It was my birthday a few days ago and I bought the Sunbearer Trials with the money I got. I already had Cemetery Boys and I had high hopes and they were blown out of the water. To say I loved it was an understatement. Im gay, trans, and hispanic and identify with your characters and writing so much. I breezed through the book in 1 day because I just couldnt put it down. I am autistic and have severe social anxiety and find comfort and an escape in books. I have trouble visualizing stuff though but your writing just sucks me right in like Im there as well.
Anyways! If by a one in a million chance you are reading this can you tell me a random fact about Julian or Aurelio possibly?
Edit: I just realized there were so many spelling mistakes in the og post 😭 thats what I get for typing so fast

Whumptober Day21
(“Don’t Move”)
Testing out writing for a new fandom :3
Tumblr media
The tree’s canopy plunged them in darkness, only Aurelio’s flames giving them light. Even his flames hurt him. They probably didn’t have much time before Aurelio couldn’t take anymore.
Teo and Niya walked behind the son of Diosa Lumbre. Teo didn’t want to come back here. He had only been here once, but he hated Los Restos to mighty Sol and back. It was crazy that Sol’s light itself couldn’t reach Los Restos. The only gods here were the Obsidians. The Obsidians wanted Teo and his friends as slaves. They had already enslaved Xio.
No. They had Xio betray him. Xio betrayed Teo because of them. Xio was being controlled. He wouldn’t-
Teo shook his head, hoping the thoughts would go away.
“You good?” Niya’s voice broke the silence.
“Define good and maybe I’ll tell you,” Teo's voice dripped with sarcasm.
“I’m sure none of us are good, Niya,” Aurelio spoke, his voice low and grim. His flame flickered a little brighter for only a second. Almost like it was a joke.
“Forgive me for trying to comfort you.”
“I’m not good. I’m sorry about all of this. Maybe Auristela didn’t have to be the sacrifice. What if I-“
“Don’t say that,” Aurelio cut him off. “If anything, it should be a god who sacrifices themself. They don’t die as easily as we do.”
“Sounds like you’ve been thinking about this,” Niya huffed.
“I have.”
Teo hummed. “I don’t think that this is the best time for shit talking, but honestly, fuck these guys.”
Niya and Aurelio hummed in agreement.
“Especially your mom,” Niya nudged Aurelio, “She can suck on my hard sixteen inch-“
“Niya, enough!” Aurelio’s flame flickered again, a small laugh escaping his lips. The other two joined that giggling.
“Sixteen inches is crazy!” Teo laughed.
A crack of a branch rang through the laughter in Los Restos. The three stopped laughing immediately.
“Don’t move,” Aurelio snuffed his fire out, plunging them all into darkness. Teo knew that it was to cover them. He also knew that it was Aurelio’s hope that the monster was tracking by sound.
Los Restos never saw the light of day. The only way you could find food here was by sound or having night vision. Maybe Niya and Aurelio could track by sound, but Teo couldn’t.
Teo stood still with bated breaths. It was silent for only a moment.
“Aurelio?!” The voice was almost squeaky, like a child’s. That was because it did belong to a child.
Aurelio lit another flame. In front of them, stood Atzi, the daughter of Tempestoso. She was covered in cuts and bruises and gashes and wounds. Aurelio nearly tripped over his feet while trying to take a step toward her.
Teo grabbed Aurelio’s non-dominant arm to keep him back. “It could be a trick,” Teo whispered.
Atzi started limping toward the three, tears threatening to spill. “I-I wanna go home…” the girl reached for Aurelio.
Aurelio looked over to Teo and then Niya. Niya shooker her head. They all took steps back.
“Please don’t leave me!” Atzi cried. “I want to go home!”
Teo could feel tears start to form in his eyes. He couldn’t help himself. All of this was his fault. If he had decided to use himself as a sacrifice, or just didn’t put that blade in Xio’s hands, none of these people would be in pain. “I’m sorry…”
Atzi’s head snapped in his direction, her eyes lit a blinding white. Thunder cracked up above. He’d known the feeling of being struck by lightning. All of your muscles seized and you blacked out.
A rod of lightning appeared in Atzi’s hand. “You did this to her!”
Her…
“It’s an imposter! Run!” Aurelio shot a volley of fireballs at the imposter and they began to run. Aurelio kept his arm alight as a torch.
Teo dodged lightning bolts, then he was dodging spurts of water, then the three were being chased by a jaguar.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck!”
“You’re making everyone else panic with your panicking, Teo!” Niya shouted.
“We’re being chased by a fucking jaguar!”
Niya turned around, facing the imposter of Ocelo, and stomped on the ground. The imposter ran straight into the wall of rock that Niya created.
Niya turned around. Teo and Aurelio were far ahead. “Guys!” She shouted. The two slowed down to let her catch up. “You guys really left me?!”
Teo shrugged. “Sorry, this shit is like a horror movie. I don’t have to fight, I just have to run faster.”
Niya punched Teo’s shoulder lightly. “Fair point, but I’ll remember that.”
“Please don’t-”
“If it got Niya, you would’ve been next, just so you know,” Aurelio joked, his flames going down to only his finger tips.
It was crazy that Teo was the only one out of breath. If Niya hadn’t done that, he probably would’ve died first.
“Minorities always die first…” Teo mumbled.
“What minority do you belong to that we don’t?” Aurelio smiled.
Teo thought for a second. “I’m transgender and also pretty gay.”
“Let’s be honest, if you’re a semidios and you’re not a flavor of gay, you’re confused,” Niya stated.
Teo huffed at himself for not thinking about this the first time around. “I’m a Jade.”
Niya opened her mouth, then shut it, then looked over at Aurelio, who shrugged. Teo smiled. He won.
“Where are we?” Niya quickly changed the subject.
“Fuck if I know.”
“I wasn’t asking you, Teo!” She whisper-shouted.
“Ocelo never stopped a chase because of a simple inconvenience. Where did that imposter go?” Aurelio’s thoughts came out of his mouth. It rang in between Teo and Niya’s ears.
“You’re right, Ocelo is a relentless fucker,” Niya hummed.
One thing Teo knew about Ocelo was their stubbornness. A hit to the head wouldn’t stop them. Not even a giant squid stopped them.
“I think that we should be glad that these things are giving us a break,” Teo said.
“I think we should be glad that no diose has found us yet.”
Teo and Niya shushed Aurelio. “Do not jinx us that badly,” Teo whispered.
“If only it were that easy to revoke bad luck, huh?” A deep voice spoke from their left. The three froze.
Teo recognized that voice. “Mala Suerte…” he whispered. He didn’t know if it was relief or anger or sadness he was overcome with. Maybe it was all of the above.
“Mala Suerte,” Aurelio’s voice was low, like a darkness crept into his body. Aurelio’s fire grew brighter.
Niya readied herself, ready to transform her sword or shield if needed.
Teo’s wings puffed up.
“Bad luck isn’t something that you inflict on yourself. It’s given to you,” The Dios said. There was an accent in his voice. One of longing and sorrow.
“What are you doing here?” Niya nearly growled.
“I came to find my son.”
Teo’s heart dropped. “Xio isn’t your son. He’s Venganza’s.” Even Teo noticed the edge in his voice.
“I raised him. He’s my son.”
“He betrayed the world because of his father!” Aurelio’s temper was running very thin.
“Venganza is not his father and I will not allow anyone to hurt him!” Mala Suerte’s booming voice made the trees sway. “I care not for his mistakes! I care not for his blood! I raised him, even if his mother lied to me, I raised him! He. Is. My. Son.” Mala Suerte took a breath. “Now, would you like my help to save your friends? Or would you rather die a horrible death against the Obsidians?”
“We’d be safer without you,” Niya spoke in a whisper, her voice trembling. “The Obsidians can sense dioses…”
Silence rang loud in Los Restos. Dread set in Teo and Aurelio’s spines.
Niya was right. The Obsidians can sense other dioses. Mala Suerte is a dios.
“Oh shit…” Mala Suerte muttered.
“What bad luck you have, Little Suerte!” Another voice laughed.
“What misfortune you’ve brought upon these semidioses, right?” The semidios’s bodies went rigged, fear flying to their heads.
“How unlucky for these semidioses, huh?”
Shadowy figures appeared behind Mala Suerte.
In seconds, Mala Suerte had appeared in front of Teo, Niya, and Aurelio, his arms out as if he were trying to protect them. “Run!” The dios shouted over his shoulder.
They ran without question, Mala Suerte’s screams echoed behind them.

I finished Aiden Thomas’s The Sunbearer Trials last night. Wow. I loved this book! This incredible high stakes underdog story follows Teo, son of bird goddess Quetzal, after he is chosen by Sol (sun god and creator of all) to compete in the Sunbearer Trials. Teo is such a fascinating and likable character. Thomas shows the reader a glimmer of Teo’s heroic potential early on. The whole cast of characters is complex and interesting in their own way. Over the course of the trials, Teo and the reader learn that everyone is not as it seems. My favorite elements are the friendship between Teo, Niya (daughter of earth god Tierra), and Xio (son of bad luck god Mala Suerte) and the romantic tension between Teo and Aurelio (son of fire goddess Lumbre). Everything comes to a head at the end with a major reveal and cliffhanger that left me reeling. I can’t wait for the next book come out! 🌞🦜🛕#thesunbearertrials #aidenthomas #teo #birdbrainandgoldenboy #dioses #semidioses #bookstagram #bookstagrammer https://www.instagram.com/p/ClgrP0JLR0N/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
