✨ The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas - OUT SEP 6TH!!

✱ I honestly can't recommend this book enough. If you are a fan of the Percy Jackson 'demigod' / quests / trials type fantasy you are going to be in for a MASSIVE treat with this one. Aiden has created an incredible world that blends modern touches with fantasy so seamlessly the world easily feels real. Often times when reading fantasy books I find myself struggling to remember whos-who, what's-what, where's-where but that isn't the case with this one. Not only does the physical book come with a beautifully drawn map (if you need it) but everything is written in a way that it just feels natural to be along for the ride. I was able to easily picture every incredible city and character introduced as the plot progressed.

✱ This book follows our protagonist Teo, a Jade demigod (semidiose) and son of the beautiful Quetzal. Teo is a character you will easily adore; he is strong willed, anti-authority, values his friends and will get back up every time he falls to do the right thing.

I finished Aiden Thomas’s The Sunbearer Trials last night. Wow. I loved this book! This incredible high stakes underdog story follows Teo, son of bird goddess Quetzal, after he is chosen by Sol (sun god and creator of all) to compete in the Sunbearer Trials. Teo is such a fascinating and likable character. Thomas shows the reader a glimmer of Teo’s heroic potential early on. The whole cast of characters is complex and interesting in their own way. Over the course of the trials, Teo and the reader learn that everyone is not as it seems. My favorite elements are the friendship between Teo, Niya (daughter of earth god Tierra), and Xio (son of bad luck god Mala Suerte) and the romantic tension between Teo and Aurelio (son of fire goddess Lumbre). Everything comes to a head at the end with a major reveal and cliffhanger that left me reeling. To probably no one's surprise, I haven't read The Sunbearer Trials yet. I have this bad habit of buying books knowing they're going to be in a series and either reading them quickly, getting mad there's a cliffhanger, or buying it and waiting for the rest of the series to come out before reading. Rarely is there an in-between.

Book two hasn't even been announced yet, and I don't want to run the risk of the former happening, so it's been sitting on my shelf with my other two Aiden Thomas books. I'll get to it eventually. 🤷🏻‍♀️
