All of the hate for frankie in the new movie like people saying that mh only made them nonbinary to not look homophobic and that ceci shouldnt have auditioned for the role of a girl if they’re trans dont sound like fans protecting their favorite character, instead they sound like transphobes…
Idk where this attitude came from but like monster high has always been progressive? Why can’t we cheer for a character loudly saying they are nonbinary in a KIDS movie rather than being upset that “the dialogue doesn’t sound natural enough”
Its a kids movie. The dialogue won’t sound natural. And everyone saying that the character should just be referred to as “they” and let the viewer infer don’t realize that kids won’t have a label to infer that as. Some kids will be in transphobic households and will be able to watch this and learn a label. Kids will be able to identify something instead of have it in the background. Its a learning experience for many, including adults who may be watching with their children.
Whining about it isn’t helpful for anyone, instead we should be applauding the movie for blatantly highlighting a trans actor AND a gender label both of which are wildly under-appreciated in both adult media and kids media.
Ive watched the Monster High live action and i have sooo many positive things to talk about it, but, in this specific post, i wanted to talk about Frankie's neurodivergent behaviour.
I wasn't expecting for it, not gonna lie. But i just watched this movie and i wanted to talk about it with my open heart. As a neurodivergent person myself, who was judged during all their life for it, i have no words enough to say how much i felt comfortable watching Frankie's neurodivergence, it was deeply relatable to me. It was heartwarming.
Ive always loved Frankie. I used to like Monster High a lot when i was a child, i was too young to understand the message behind tho. This universe was always about embracing yourself, just in the way you are, no matter how different you might be from the others. I was still into Monster High content as i grow older and then i finally understood it, but, now, it was different. I felt it. Deep into my soul. I felt embraced. I mean it. Frankie is, by far, my favorite character in this new version, theyve become my kinnie and comfort character, and, ik it might not be important for so many people, but im feeling so so happy about that to the point of really wanting to share this somewhere.
