Before the module began, my tutors gave homework to help prepare me for the module.

The first was to read Holland. G and Jones, R (2017). ‘Fashion Trend Forecasting’

and the second was to research trends, considering the following criteria:

1) THE MINISKIRT:

Title/Theme: Mini Skirt

Fabric Selection: Varies from Denim, stretchy Cotton, Leather to Knit and tweed

Key Shapes/Garments: Usually tight fitted but can be flared and free flowing, A-line shape, pleats, ruffles.

Colour Palette: Patterns vary from plaid/checkered to floral- Denim blue/black. Colour palette is broad and open ranging from anything to colourful and bright to more muted and monochromatic tones.

Contexual Information:

Since the early 1960s, miniskirts have existed as a symbol of women's liberation. The pioneers of the mini skirt are attributed to designers Mary Quant and André Courrèges. Popularised in "Swinging London," by the likes of model Twiggy whose most famous attire was that of a mod mini skirt.

Paris adopted this look and became part of the Space Age trend and becoming a staple part of a political standpoint with activists like Germaine Greer and Gloria Steinem making the miniskirt a symbol of the women’s movement. It wasn't long before the miniskirt became a symbol for female liberation.

However, not everyone agreed with the design with society deeming the high hemline as controversial even designers like Dior refusing to feature the hottest trend on their runways and Chanel questioning the trend wearers if they: ‘‘Have they all gone mad?’’

However, despite much acquisition from the public The Miniskirt has never quite faded throughout history since it began—with icons like Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and The Spice Girls sporting this look throughout the 90′s. However, it made a more prominent comeback in the early 2000s, with American designers like Tom Ford bringing sexy back into fashion, and It girls like Paris Hilton raising hemlines even further with denim miniskirts, concluding what we now call the ‘micro mini’.

Even today, the miniskirt is still a staple part of fashion and is frequently seen being sported by the likes of Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and super models alike.

2) Punk

Fabric Selection: leather, fishnet, tartan/plaid, vinyl, rubber

Key Shapes/Garments: Tight fitting leather jackets, ripped jeans, shorts, black tights, studs, pleated skirts, loose flannels, chains, chunky boots; motorcycle boots, combat boots and doc Martens, tapered jeans, tight leather pants and ‘bondage’ attire

Colour Palette: Typically a darker selection of colours; black and red are common colour combinations.

Contexual Information:

The Punk subculture first emerged in the mid 1970s in London as an anarchic and aggressive movement. It is generally regarded as a defining moment in British cultural history; encapsulating the socio-economic and political climate of the late 1970s. Punks deconstructed garments into new forms, using clothes from charity and thrift shops, destroying the fabric and refashioning outfits that was often thought of as crude-attracting attention. In this day and age torn fabrics, frayed edges and defaced prints are now considered normal but in the 1970s it shocked many people, because it had never been seen before. Until then fabric had been treated as a material to keep as pristine, and as beautiful as possible.

Black leather, studs, chains, bondage, animal print bum flaps and leg straps epitomise some of the looks that immediately spring to mind when thinking of the early punks.

Vivienne Westwood is often coined as the pioneer of the Punk subculture; from her little boutique ‘Worlds end’ in Chelsea, Vivienne Westwood designed original punk clothing, adding tears and safety pins to clothes long before the punk aesthetic hit mainstream attention. Her controversial ‘God Save The Queen’ T-Shirt quickly rose to notoriety in the public eye after she faced prosecution under the obscenity act. Punk as a style succeeded even more when Vivienne Westwood and her husband Malcolm McLaren launched the infamous ‘SEX’ shop which was renamed Seditionaries in 1976 which was considered a hub for rebels and riot kids. They sold leather and rubber fetish goods, especially bondage trousers and produced designs flexed by the band ‘Sex Pistols’ and Siouxsie ( Siouxsie and the Banshees) now, back in fashion with Cara Delevigne.

3) 90′s StreetWear

Key Shapes/Garments: oversized and loose fitting; baggy jeans and ‘sweatpants’/joggers, loose T-shirts, ‘sneakers’/trainers, bucket hats, bandanas, tracksuits, windbreakers, dungarees, denim jackets.

Colour Palette: Bright colours, primary colour palette, bold designs

Contexual Information:

The '90s valued colours and aesthetics in designs; colour blocking is a common occurrence. The 90′s style is focused on baggy jeans, loose fitting t-shirts and jackets and can have ‘grunge’ elements with ripped jeans and flannel shirts. Sport and Athletic brands such as Adidas, Nike, Fila, Kappa and more alike were heavily sought after and worn; with their bold colourful logos never going a miss.

Colson's slowly collecting his stuff. He has a show in NC on the 10th and then is fully on tour until July. Sighing he shoots Ashley a text asking about Luna. She lets him know that she's with her.

"At least she's safe." Even though he's sure Pete is probably right, he's still worried about what could have upset her. He notices the time. "Damn she runs fast." He thinks impressed as he finishes his joint.

Ashley sits at the kitchen table while Luna paces. "It's the fucking principal. He's basically holding my music hostage, with a fucking Top 40 Hit as the ransom. Its fucking ludicrous!! Like, what the fuck makes anyone think they can fucking own me!?" She shakes her head, knowing exactly what, a Fucking contract, as she looks around for her purse. "Fuck, I didn't even bring my bag. You got any bud?" She asks Ashley.

"Yup." Twisting her pen in her hand. "Sit." She directs Luna.

She does, continuing to vent to her best friend. "And this fucking Alabama shit is insane!! It's like we're taking 10 more steps back, every fucking day." She hits the pen a few times.

"So we do, what we do. Write a fucking Riot Grl song, like we talked about, only now we have a clear message. I know you like being small Loons, but we let it be a top 40 and use it to do something about Alabama. At least draw attention to it and figure out a way to help the girls there." She takes the pen from Luna and hits it herself. "Think about what you do for Flint. Just bigger and more exposed. Fuck, my fans love merch!! We can donate all those proceeds somewhere!!" Ashley can see the wheels turning in Luna's head.

"I can't fucking feature with you, he'll demand another 40, locking me into 2." She sighs.

"So, you feature me. If they wanna play red tape, with a Fucking WORD, we'll wrap them motherfuckers up in it. You said you have Monica going over your contract. Have her look into you featuring other artists."

Luna nods. Texting Monica right then. She also asks her to please look into possibly helping local Alabama organizations. Monica texts that she will, and that she already has her ear to the ground. Luna hits the pen again. She looks at Ashley. "I think we should change some things around. Write it from 2 points of view. An 'I and Us' kinda theme." She peers at Ashley. "Am I making sense?"

"Yup!" Says Ashley excited, pulling out the book they had wrote in the night before. "How about this?" She asks changing some lyrics 🎶We've been polite//But we're done with this trend//Of men thinking//They can tell us//What we can do//In our beds🎶

"Ohhhhh!!! That's fucking nasty, Ashh! I Fucking love it! I wanna change the Exs lyric to record executives..." She takes the pencil from Ashley. 🎶Keep the record executives//In check//In their basements//Their ideas are tired//Or worse//They're complacent//I have played nice//But will now be The Bully//We're tired and angry//Coming for The Hill//So scared//Is what you should be🎶 She shows Ashley.

"AHHHHHHH!!! LOOOOONS!! We're gonna be murking motherfuckers out here!!" Ashley screams, jumping up from the table after she reads it. She's dancing around singing it to a barking Jagger. "I'll be right back." She walks out of the room. Coming back in with her guitar. They finish reworking the lyrics, over their initial melody. Then they write the rest of the music. Using soft and hard drum ideas, guitar, keytar and a solid bass line dropping in and out. Ashley is playing guitar, while Luna bangs rhythms out on the table. They're working the hard/soft formula and wanna see if Colson and his band will back them.

"I'd trust Slim and Baze to produce it." Luna says confidently.

"Oh yeah, deff after the other night." Ashley agrees. After about an hour the girls sit back, satisfied.

"What should we call it?" Luna asks. Still sitting back, Ashley thinks for a minute. 🎶I'm no sweet dream but Imma hell of a night🎶 She looks at Luna intensely as she slides her arms across the table towards her. "Nightmare." She says with nod and wicked smile.

"Fuck yes." Luna agrees biting her lip, thinking hard. "We open to you reciting The Lords Prayer." Matching Ashley's wicked smile.

Ashley laughs. "I FUCKING love THAT!! This is going to be AMAZING!!"

"They're not gonna know what fucking hit 'em." Luna agrees, her wicked smile turning into an evil grin.

Ashley starts dancing around the kitchen again, singing. This time mimicking CCR 🎶There's a Bad Luna rising, I see trouble on the way🎶 Both girls laugh before Luna calls Colson. She needs to shower and change her shoulder's dressing. She's gross from anger-running and her shoulder is throbbing.

Colson is smoking a joint, working in the studio when Luna calls. She apologizes for running out. She was mad at her lable and AL and said she didn't wanna take it out on him.

He gets it, he'd looked it up, AL is a big deal. He asks her why she's mad at the lable.

She explains some douche bag is anticipating their record being a Top 40 Hit and how, because Luna's mainly low-key, he wants his own Top 40 from her before he'll release her rights to Bad Things.

They know that they have the music in their physical possession and can do what they want with it. They also know that without her lable's permission they can both be sued and the song legally blocked from the air. They both agree it's bullshit. Luna's already decided she's deff walking in June.

She then asks if he would mind backing her and Ashley on their record with his band? He laughs agreeing, asking if she wants to record today. She responds with a grateful yes please. They get off the phone agreeing her and Ashley will be over soon.

Luna calls Monica to get an update on the legalities and include her in the possible new ones with Ashley, Colson and his band. She tells Luna she can't find anything to get Luna out of her contract, that she does indeed have a feature for feature clause but that HER lable is responsible for all production, publicity and artist costs on her records. Before they disconnect, she reminds her that her contract is up next month.

"Oh, Imma ride the shit outttta of this." Luna happily schemes more artists into the project.

Before getting to Colson's, Luna places a handful of personal calls. If she wants to lay the track this evening and shoot the video tomorrow, she HAS to move quickly. Her friend Hannah has agreed to shoot the video. Her grandmother, Frannie, Paris, Billie and Lana are all free to show up. Luna asks them to spread the Riot Grl word, that she wants a BIG SHOT at 7P, bring, send, anyone and everyone they can. EXCEPT Joan, she tells her grandmother. She then shoots a mass text out to Cara, Lily, Nikki, Bella, Phem, Steph, Ri, Nix, Zoë and Ruby letting them know what her plan is, asking if they wanna be involved, esp in the BIG SHOT and to bring whomever. JUST NOT JOAN. Her phone is exploding as she drives with Ashley to Colson's. Everyone's in. They're equally pissed about AL and excited to be involved in the project. Most can fly in tonight, others tomorrow. Definitely before 7P. Luna responds with 😍🙏💃🎉

The thread still rolling through out the night with details and updates. Luna appreciating her friends.

Ashley heads into the studio first, to recite The Lord's Prayer over Baze's eerie keytar. Luna's pleased with how sick they sound together.

Once they finish, EVERYONE piles into the studio, Luna and Ashley are side by side. Colson and AJ each have a guitar. Rook is on the drums, Baze still on the keytar. They need certain elements. Slim is outside the booth working the board. They had given it a couple dry runs and feel confident they can get it on one take. Luna kisses Colson, smiling at him. "Let's kill a Fucking nother one, Guys!!!" She shouts as they start.

Slim plays Ashley's voice over their headphones. As her voice ends and Baze's keytar continues, the band kicks in together fiercely as Ashley's vocals pound along with them. The room zaps to life.

The band stops as Luna steps in alone, slowly coming in behind her vocals.

Luna's voice is strong but delicate as she glides over the lyrics with passion. She continues.

The room is buzzing as Ashley steps in harmonizing with Luna.

Ashley falls out as Luna continues into the mic with more anger in her voice. Rook's drums push hard.

The band crashes in after Luna, Ashley belting the first chorus again, nailing it.

The band stops again, only Baze on keytar as Ashley softens her voice.

Luna and Ashley exchange excited looks as Ashley drops out so Luna can step in again with Baze, Rook rumbling behind her. She sings with fire.

It's a fun day of filming. Filled with excitement, empowerment, ideas, laughter, bonding and surprises.

Luna's friends begin to arrive at the location at different times, bringing other strong women with them. Everyone truly coming together like a family. Each woman being involved, blending in with the other cast and helping create different scenes that Ashley and Luna play out. The women change wardrobe multiple times from street fighting, punk clothes to sweet lingerie. And everything in between. Causing Pattie to notice Luna's injury. Luna promising to tell her grandmother about it later.

Casie is on set having a blast. Interacting with everyone while Luna keeps an eye on her. Colson had dropped her off, saying Hello to Pattie and kissing Luna deeply. Leaving before becoming overwhelmed by the overflowing estrogen. It's agreed Casie will only be in the BIG SHOT. Luna's grandmother finds the girl especially sweet with her quick wit. They also touch base on AL, how there are still 3 functioning clinics. They're being funded by an organization named Yellowhammer. Luna tells Monica that she and Ash were thinking about printing out merchandise in promotion of the track. She asks her to start setting that in motion. Linking all proceeds to Yellowhammer. After agreeing, Monica then tells Luna she found a Dr who is looking for help. Luna asks her to set up a meeting. Thanking Monica as always, telling her to look for the link to their hardwork on Monday morning before they hang up.

Juuuuuust before 7P. A black Aston Martin pulls up. It's Beyoncé.

"Ohhhhhhh!!! FUUUCCCKK!!!!" Luna clasps her hands over her mouth laughing. "This is gonna cost them sooooooooooooo much money." She thinks happily.

Colson pops in for a drink and to congratulate and kiss her. Then he takes Cas home for bed, both promising to see each other later. The cast and crew continue to celebrate their victory late into the night.

Followed by different flashing scenes before landing onto a fishnet and leather clad lineup of That Brooklyn Bitch, Rihanna, Halsey, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Nikki Minaj. It holds for a second before the hard, catchy, pop punk song kicks in loudly. Featuring clips of Luna, Halsey and the other famous faces embodying various personas, from punk rockers to dominatrixes to pin-up models to housewives to businesswomen. Including an all women fight club scene, little girls in front of a school bus and women rioting. Showcasing how multifaceted women are. It holds on a frame of her grandmother Pattie Smith, Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox, Debbie Harry, Lita Ford and Siouxsie Sioux together. All in leather. Mean mugging the camera. Then flows into the BIG SHOT. A group of women marching, towards the camera. A little girl is leading the pack, holding a sign that says "We WON'T Smile". Others are holding banners and signs saying "We Support The Women of Alabama" and "Not Your Bitch". As the group gets closer to the camera, Charles is recognizing all of the women. Luna, Halsey, Ruby Rose, Lily Depp, Cara Delevingne, Pattie Smith, Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, Debbie Harry, Siouxsie Sioux, Lita Ford, Frances Bean, Paris Jackson, Billie Lourd, Emma Roberts, Zoë Kravitz, SZA, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Nicole Richie, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Bella Thorn, Lana Del Rey, Phem, Nikki Minaj all mixed together. It ends abruptly after mugshots of each of the 26 famous women flash across the screen. It's goes black before a link to the Yellowhammer Foundation pops up. Charles is speechless. It's cinematic history and pop gold.

"FUCK, SHE'S A FUCKING GENIUS. ONE WHO JUST COST ME A FUCK TON OF FUCKING MONEY!!"

2017 Year in Review

1. Lorde - Melodrama

Ella Yelich-O’Connor’s sophomore heartbreak rebound album is bursting at the seams with raw emotion. Lorde described the album as a concept of one long summer house party. She is motivated to go out to get over her ex. (“Green Light”) She gets too drunk and falls apart. (“Writer in the Dark” & “Liability”) She wakes up the morning after and decides this isn’t helping. (“Perfect Places”) Melodrama is an album of youth and heartache that brings everyone to where they were at Lorde’s 21 years of age. Best Tracks: “Green Light,” “Writer In The Dark,” “Supercut,” “Perfect Places”

2. Father John Misty - Pure Comedy

Josh Tillman has stated that Pure Comedy was written and completed before Election Day 2016. But it sure feels like he wrote the whole thing on November 9th, 2016. Without once mentioning the current flaming dumpster in chief, Father John Misty diagnoses America’s disease. The State of Our Union is self-obsessed, screen-attached, entertainment-driven and headed for ruin. If you thought this summary was grim, listen to the album. Best Tracks: “Pure Comedy,” “A Bigger Paper Bag,” “Leaving LA,” “Birdy”

3. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.

I want to state firmly DAMN. is not K.Dot’s best album, honestly I’m not even sure it’s his second best album. It would be hard to ever match such a complex opus like To Pimp A Butterfly that we’re still trying to unravel nearly three years later. However, DAMN. is a very, very good album. It’s an album about success, struggle, race, hip-hop itself, roots and hard work. In a sense, DAMN. is a summation of Kendrick Lamar as an artist with pieces of all his previous work collapsing into a whole. Best Tracks: “ELEMENT.” “FEAR.” “LOYALTY. (featuring Rihanna)”

4. War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding

War on Drugs is driving music. The long kind of drive where you know your ass will be glued to your seat for a while. It’s a drive through the plains where you can see the whole sky stretch across your field of vision. The songs are long and the riffs and solos paint epic landscapes. A Deeper Understanding sweeps you up in the massiveness of its sound like driving into the sunset. Best Tracks: “Strangest Thing,” “Up All Night,” “In Chains”

5. Waxahatchee - Out in The Storm

Looking through this list, there’s a large portion of break-up albums, but I guess that’s one of songwritings biggest inspirations. Well, here’s the second of four on this list. Katie Crutchfield’s heartbreak is a lot angrier than Lorde’s. She’s furious and hurt. Her pain cuts to the core. Crutchfield feels that she wasted so much time and energy on her ex. On Out In The Storm she bares it all and releases it, well, into the storm. Best Tracks: “Recite Remorse” “No Question,” “Silver”

6. The xx - I See You

After Coexist, the members of the English trio recollected themselves. Jamie honed his craft with 2015’s In Colour, Romy worked on songwriting with Ryan Tedder and Oliver got sober. On I See You, Jamie XX became the frontman of the band behind the decks and drumpads. The groups third album is their most upbeat, lively piece of work. The phrase “I See You” was a saying between the band recognizing each other beyond skin deep. Each members pain and joy can beheard in their voices, basses and samples. Best Tracks: “On Hold,” “Replica,” “I Dare You”

7. St. Vincent - MASSEDUCTION

Here’s breakup album three of four. Annie Clarke’s fifth album as St. Vincent has been described as “Trauma Pop.” After a series of breakups including one with supermodel/actress Cara Delevigne, Clarke created a piece of pop art. While the album and cover evokes hot pinks and reds, the lyrical content is quite glum. On “Los Ageless,” she asks why fall in love at all if you’re bound to lose anyway. It’s a breakup album about witnessing your own pain rather than the path to recovery like Lorde or driving your raw anger at the ex like Waxahatchee. Best Tracks: “Los Ageless,” “Slow Disco,” “Hang On Me”

8. Migos - C U L T U R E

The title says it all. The Migos are the culture. (It’s literally the opening line of the album.) Quavo, Offset and Takeoff are rockstars. After a dud debut album with Yung Rich Nation, Migos created a summation of their contribution to Atlanta rap culture, rap culture and culture, period. C U L T U R E elevates the Migos to icon status where they can pave their own lane and everyone will follow. Every track on this album had the ability to become a rap radio hit. Quavo and Offset have become the go-to guest versus as Lil Wayne was back in the late 2000’s. Fuckboy bowdown, don’t ever doubt that the Migos aren’t the culture. Best Tracks: “Bad and Boujee (featuring Lil Uzi Vert),” “T-Shirt,” “Big on Big,” “Get Right Witcha”

9. Dirty Projectors - Dirty Projectors

Breakup album four of four. After a five-year hiatus, Dave Longstreth returns solo since the album is mainly about his former bandmate and ex Amber Coffman. (Her album City of No Reply was also fantastic.) Still inventive, Longstreth utilizes dancehall and pop sounds to create a breakup album with a long-term scope about taking note of the past and moving on. Longstreth is a master storyteller recalling the relationship in whole on “Up in Hudson” Best Tracks: “Up in Hudson,” “Cool Your Heart (featuring DAWN),” “Little Bubble”

10. Amine - Good for You

Amine’s debut album is on par with Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap. Hear me out. Both rappers sing and rap. Both embrace positivity over the rap majority’s sound of violence and anger. They rap about friendship and family (“Sundays”/ “Cocoa Butter Kisses”). Arguably, Amine’s hometown of Portland doesn’t face the crime rate of Chance’s Chicago. Amine, like Chance, seems to be paving his own lane. Good For You was arguably the most fun record of the year with great joy and self-empowerment. Best Tracks: “Yellow (featuring Nelly),” “Wedding Crashers (featuring Offset)” “Sundays”

I think I know like at most two One Direction songs. It must be quite an advantage to make your album debut already being one of the most famous singers in the world. Sure, you could have made R&B that sounds like Usher and Drake *Zayn*, just decided to ripoff the already terrible Ed Sheeran *Niall* or you could just make the same boring pop music anyone else would make *the other two*. But you could say, fuck it I’m going to attempt to bring back rock and roll instead. I’m not saying Harry Styles is the savior mainstream rock needs or it’s savior period, but this record blew out all expectations with him trying to do so. Styles recreates himself as Mick Jagger, David Bowie and John Lennon over this underappreciated record. Best Tracks: “From The Dining Table,” “Meet Me in The Hallway,” “Woman”

Members of every race, religion, nationality and sexuality. A multi-faceted machine with members doing every kind of creative role. These guys work fast. By the time you read this, their third album of the year will be the days away. Unfortunately, it’s going to be their last, allegedly. (You can still catch them on tour through the beginning of 2018.)

The best part of BROCKHAMPTON is that this 20+ member group is having more fun than most of us probably do in our whole lives. The beats, flows and rhymes are all insanely creative because it feels like their just riffing in the garage. None of the videos don’t fit any strict narrative. People are saran wrapping PB&J to their face, bouncing in sumo suits and just hanging with a llama. The world needs to be more like BROCKHAMPTON.

I went to college in Colorado for four years. When everyone else was getting into the Grateful Dead, I stupidly shied away. I knew the basic, “Uncle John’s Band,” “Friend of the Devil,” “Truckin,” “Shakedown Street,” etc. This past June I joined a friend and his frat brother to a Dead and Company show at the Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater. Needless to say, I left with a tie-dye shirt of cartoon Jerry driving a VW Bus.

Everyone of them has their own problems: Red has a father who’s never around and an alcoholic mother, Leo’s brother is violent,Rose drinks alcohol to numb the pain from her past and Naomi runs away from home to pursue a freedom she cannot find anywhere else. Just together in their band they can truly be themselves.

But one day Naomi disappears again, and is found half dead in the Thames. Was it an accident or suicide? Red, Leo and Rose search for the truth and must face their own dark secrets and fears. Nothing will ever be the same again, because once a mirror is broken,it can‘t be fixed.

My thoughts:

Wow. I really loved this book. I could have happily read more about these wonderful characters.

I love how all these characters were so different and had completely different backgrounds but they bonded over their love of music. My absolutely favorite character was Rose because she reminded me of me and i could understand her.

„But the truth is Rose wants to be in the light, because she is afraid of the dark.

She wants people to look at her, because she is afraid to be alone.

She wants people to like her, because sometimes inside, she really hates herself.“

This novel shows us how hard it is to be a teenager and that sometimes adults and parents have no idea how hard it is to find yourself in this society. Cara is an incredible person and i think she wrote an amazing book which everyone of us can identify with.

„Normal, you see, is whatever you want it to be.“

Recommendation:

This is a book that i was definitely be reading again and all you need to do is go out and get it. Trust me, you won‘t regret it.

Best Times to Visit Austin and What To Do

One of the best things about living in Austin is all the outdoor food and music festivals. Once spring hits there is SXSW and PGA TOUR’s Dell Technologies Match Play tour with non stop crawfish boils and swim time. Here is a list of my favorite events in Austin when you are not coming for a bachelorette or bachelor party (unless you want to tack it on around these)!

SXSW

SXSW , a two-week conference and party, is actually my favorite time of year. My New York City x West Coast world’s collide in my own town, and it’s SO cool! WHERE else do experts from the food, film, tech, music, and politics gather together in such a close nit space over two weeks- not even in NYC or LA. If your company is able to shell out thousands of dollars for a badge, you have access to see speakers like Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger from Instagram, Julia Kramer from Bon Appetit magazine who decides the “Hot Ten” best restaurants each year, producer and musician T Bone Burnett, comedian Kathy Griffin, marketing guru Bozoma Saint John.The Taco Meet up is also really cool as you get to try about 5 of the best tacos from around Austin.

If you don’t (like me!), there is still SO much going on and a lot of free parties and panels that brands through that are considered “unofficial.” A few of my favorites included: Outdoor Voices annual “A Brunch of Jogger’s,” Facebook’s concert showcase with Toro y Moi and later Ghostland Observatory through their other division Oculus, GOOP’s pop-up store and event with Brahmin bags (it does help if you have friends to get you in that work at these places), Malverde’s rooftop shows during music week above La Condesa, South x San Jose Free Concert Series in their parking lot with pop-up shops, panels by local entrepreneur’s and companies like: Bumble, Kendra Scott, Planoly, Packed Party.

The tip is to follow them on instagram, facebook, or subscribe and you’ll get all the invites and details! I was also lucky enough to see the preview of Hulu’s Shrill with Elizabeth Banks and Aidy Bryant, thanks to a friend who works for the theater here in Austin. Sitting on the same row as these actresses and producers and watching their work for the first time with them is an unmatchable experience. Texas Monthly, Yeti, Uber Eats all had music events and parties, and Rainey is another good place to check out activations and free stuff. Lastly, Wanderlust Yoga has free yoga for the whole two-weeks at Republic Square Park and a few great local brands like Juice Society, Fit Joy, GT’s Kombucha, Culina, and Cara Caulkins Communications hosted a Festival Recovery Lounge at a lovely Clarksville home to help those kick back into gear.

PGA TOUR’S DELL TECHNOLOGIES MATCH PLAY TOUR

Usually, the last weekend in March, this golf tournament takes place right by Austin 360’s bridge which has a great view of Lake Austin. Pro’s like Bubba Watson, Tiger Woods, Kevin Kisner play on the lovely course from Wednesday – Sunday with lots of local bbq, tacos, wineries, beers, Grey Goose lounges. It’s very intimate walking around and you’ll see the same folks and friends jaunting. There is also a lot of local fun going on with Save Muny more locally if you don’t make it out there.

CRAWFISH BOILS! Austin has an overflow of breweries, distilleries, BBQ joints, and outdoor music venues. You’ll find that right at the end of March and beginning of April that these places are dishing out the mud bugs with live music! Perla’s, TLC, The ABGB, and Scoot Inn to name a few.

AUSTIN FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL

C3 puts on this Austin Food & Wine Festival that showcases chef demos, wine tastings, and mostly local Austin and San Antonio chefs showing off their goods at the big Grand Tasting event held at Auditorium Shores with live fire pits, too. You’ll see cooking demos from some national big wigs like Jonathan Waxman, Nancy Silverton, Sarah Grueneberg, Aaron Sanchez, Andrew Zimmern. There are also evening events at Auditorium Shores like Grillin and Chillin where Tim Love hosts an outdoor dinner that you get to learn how to use a grill for. Rock Your Taco is always on Saturday night at Fairmarket with all kinds of taco creations from about 16 chefs and live music.

HOT LUCK FESTIVAL- Memorial Day Weekend

To kick off summer partners, Aaron Franklin (Franklin BBQ), James Moody (Mohawk and Guerilla Suit), and Mike Thelin (Feast Portland). This is extremely different than Austin Food & Wine. It’s all about the music and some baller chefs from all around the country doing their thing in a laid back atmosphere (even at Wild Onion Ranch) where it feels like it’s just a bunch of friends coming together to eat and drink. It’s everyone’s favorite chefs and restaurants flying in like Sara Kramer & Sarah Hymanson from Kismet in LA, Alon Shaya from New Orleans, Chris Shepard from Houston, Christina Tosi from Milk Bar all hanging with OUR favorite Austin chefs. The weekend food line up for 2019 is here. What makes it so great if you aren’t into diving into an entire food event is that you can still be a part of the fest and attend to music shows and feel the energy of the weekend. Some of these spots still have some creative chef snacks there, too and tickets are a much lower price point if you just want to dip in or even last minute. AUSTIN CITY LIMITS If music is your beat, ACL Music Festival is just ask exciting for you as SXSW is for me. The city is again flooded with musicians and awesome shows that play not only two weekends back to back at Zilker Park but also at music venues around town for smaller private late night shows at spots like Stubb’s, Scoot Inn, Mohawk,etc as well as surprise pop-ups at Continental Club and I even saw Arizona at a Chipotle! Each weekend, there are 3 days of full line ups for Friday, Saturday, Sunday with headliners such as: Paul McCartney, St. Vincent, Metallica, Blood Orange, The National, Sofi Tukker, Nelly, Odesza, Chvrches, etc. If you want to step up your game, go for the VIP tickets. You get your own double decker viewing area of the main stage, unlimited drinks, sparkling waters, lunch and dinner, braid bars, clean bathrooms, etc. People also love to come for all the local food and beer tents at ACL Eats. Torchy’s Tacos, Salt Lick BBQ, vegan cookie dough from Skull + Cakebones, Amy’s Ice Cream, Blender’s and Bowls, Austin’s Pizza, Juice Land, The Mighty Cone. It’s super hot- do not forget a hat or sun screen!

TEXAS MONTHLY BBQ FEST Each year the Top 50 Barbecue restaurants (according to Daniel Vaughn at Texas Monthly) come to the Long Center to put on a 4 hour BBQ festival with around 30 booths serving smoked meats, mac ‘n cheese, pie’s, beer, big red, whiskey, and Desert Door Sotol. There is live music and great bands to sit and sway too after you start experiencing the meat sweats. This past year was the first time Franklin BBQ did not attend the fest because he did a more exclusive ticketed private dinner at the shop the night before. Some of my favorite ‘cue included: La BBQ, Micklethwait Craft Meats Lamb Chorizo Kolache, Snow’s BBQ, Louie Mueller’s Taco, Truth BBQ, Texas Pie Company that served 4 kinds of pie in one boat!

Noticias de series de la semana: Louis C.K. admite las acusaciones

Nuevos escándalos y sus consecuencias

Netflix, HBO, FX y TBS han cortado todas sus relaciones con Louis C.K., que ha admitido todas las acusaciones de acoso sexual. Ya no producirá Better Things, Baskets, One Mississippi -producida por FX Studios-, un segundo especial de comedia para Netflix o la serie animada The Cops (TBS), que no llegará a estrenarse.

Andrew Kreisberg, showrunner de The Flash, ha sido suspendido de sus deberes en Warner tras las acusaciones de acoso por parte de diecinueve empleados, incluidas una guionista y una directora. Una productora afirma que advirtió de su comportamiento a un ejecutivo senior hace más de un año y que éste simplemente ignoró la información. Berlanti, que al parecer desconocía todo esto, colabora ahora con la investigación.

Amazon canceló Good Girls Revolt tras su primera temporada. Resulta curioso saber ahora que Roy Price, entonces presidente de la compañía, nunca vio la serie porque no le llamaba el argumento. Ahora, tras la ola de escándalos sexuales -entre otros el que propició la dimisión de Price- Sony TV planea vender una segunda temporada a varias cadenas, entre las que se encontraría Amazon. Ya no existen contratos con el reparto, pero muchos de ellos han pedido su regreso en las redes sociales y estarían encantados de volver. Amazon investiga las acusaciones de acoso por parte de Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent) a Van Barnes, mujer transexual y antigua asistente del actor. Él lo niega todo. Jill Solloway, creadora de la serie, ha declarado que colaboran con la investigación Por su parte, BBC ha anunciado que no emitirá Ordeal by Innocence, la adaptación de la novela de Agatha Christie protagonizada por Ed Westwick, como parte de su programación navideña. Y gracias también a BBC, sabemos que la productora independiente encargada de White Gold ha informado de que el actor ha interrumpido su participación en la segunda temporada, que ya había comenzado a grabarse.

Series para el nuevo canal de Disney

Bog Iger, presidente de Disney, ha anunciado que preparan una serie de acción real de Star Wars, adaptaciones de High School Musical y Monsters Inc. y una nueva serie de Marvel para su nuevo canal, que no tendrá anuncios y ofrecerá un precio considerablemente más bajo que el de Netflix.

Big Little Lies 2

La producción de la segunda temporada de Big Little Lies podría comenzar la próxima primavera si consiguen cuadrarse las agendas de todas las personas involucradas. Precisamente debido a sus compromisos, Jean-Marc Vallée no será su director, aunque participará como productor. Están buscando a una directora que le sustituya.

The CW ha encargado nueve episodios más de Dynasty, con temporada completa de veintidós gracias a este back-nine, y ha decidido que no habrá más episodios de Valor en su primera temporada.

FOX ha encargado siete episodios más de The Mick. En total serán veinte en su segunda temporada, tres más que en la primera.

CBS ha encargado dos episodios más de NCIS y NCIS: New Orleans y uno más de Hawaii Five-0, haciendo un total de veinticuatro para todas ellas en su actual temporada.

ABC ha encargado tres episodios más de Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, llegando a quince en su primera temporada, y tres guiones más de The Mayor.

El cantante Josh Groban protagonizará The Good Cop junto a Tony Danza. Serán dos policías, padre e hijo, que viven juntos. Monica Barbaro (Chicago Justice, UnREAL) será Cara Vasquez, nueva detective de Homicidios.

Toni Collette (United States of Tara, Little Miss Sunshine) protagonizará Wanderlust en BBC. Será una terapeuta que intenta mantener viva la llama de su matrimonio. Le acompañan Steven Mackintosh (Lucky Man, The Halcyon), Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat) y Royce Pierreson (Line of Duty).

Amazon ha encargado The Boys (8 episodios), drama de superhéroes basado en el cómic de Garth Ennis (Preacher). Escribe Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Revolution, Timeless). Producen y dirigen Seth Rogen y Evan Goldberg.

Tras adquirir el proyecto, Apple ha dado luz verde directa a la serie protagonizada por Jennifer Aniston (Friends) y Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies) y ha encargado dos temporadas de diez episodios cada una. Basada en un concepto original de Michael Ellenberg y tomando ideas del libro 'Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV' de Brian Stelter, nos mostrará los retos diarios de quienes ayudan a Estados Unidos a levantarse cada mañana realizando un programa matinal de televisión. Jay Carson (House of Cards) será su showrunner. Aún no hay guiones.

Netflix Brasil ha encargado Cosa Mais Linda, drama romántico de época ambientado a finales de los años 50 y principios de los 60 durante el nacimiento de la bossa nova en Río de Janeiro. Se centra en Maria Luiza, una chica conservadora que, tras la desaparición de su marido, se traslada a Río y abre un club de bossa nova.

Netflix encarga Huge in France (8 episodios), comedia creada y protagonizada por Gad Elmaleh (Gad Gone Wild) e inspirada en su vida. Escrita por Jarrad Paul y Andy Mogel (The Grinder), contará su mudanza de Francia a Estados Unidos para intentar reconectar con su hijo de dieciséis años.
