As a survivor of abuse I relate to Machete so much. I've always felt unclean for no reason except being told I was unclean, and it made me feel worthless or revolting by default. Like, no matter what I did I would be filthy and unpleasant to be around.
Seeing that he can be loved, makes me feel like maybe I could be loved too.

Halloween tag game! Thanks for the tag!!! @serendipminie
Do this quiz find out what horror movie stereotype you are
And make this picrew/dolldivine to design your look
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m also somehow a tragic hero. Idk. Maybe it’s bcs I’m always trying to fight. In all actuality I’d probably be one of the first people to die in a horror movie bcs I can’t keep my mouth shut (which is filed under reasons I’d do terrible in prison). This was super fun tho. I love doing pic crew things (even tho I hate my face).
And as per usual I’m not tagging anyone bcs I am lazy (and socially awkward) plus I have the big sad. But if anyone wants to participate they can blame me as the reason.

i'm literally constantly thinking about sam reid's "when does he change? how does he change? how does his character develop? progressively, as the episodes were coming in, i was realizing that lestat wasn't changing at all. he keeps going back to his same patterns" comment btw. because it's true. a cornerstone to lestat's character this season is that he is utterly, painfully static. which is fascinating, because that ironically makes him one of the most stable, reliable characters in the show, in spite of outwardly acting as one of the most impulsive, volatile ones. it's also the cornerstone to what makes him such a tragic character.
because lestat is aware, to a certain extent, that there's something about himself that leads to him being abandoned. he's alluring enough to captivate, sure, but fundamentally deficit in some undefinable area that will grant him genuine, committed love. he has a way about him, but he's a lot. he's not perfect. and his own imperfections terrify him, because whatever it is, he's sure that it's at the core of himself, that it's something he can't change. and so he chases after love by throwing the worst of himself at it - because if he can find someone who sees his ugliness and loves him anyway, he'll finally have a love that he can keep. and once he finds that love, he devotes himself to it. it can not disappear again, it can't slip through his fingers. it's his, and he won't allow it to be taken from him.
and it works - for a time. preternaturally charming, occasionally thoughtful, he is so incredibly easy to fall in love with. and then something changes. and it has to be an outside force, because he hasn't done anything. he's stayed exactly the same, he's been that same person who louis fell in love with, he's committed to this love with all of himself. he is seen and he is loved and he is wanted, and he won't let anyone or anything take this acceptance away from him. so he clings, and he lashes out.
and it all, ultimately, leads back to abandonment. he's so busy keeping louis in his life, he's so busy making sure nothing changes, that he can never allow himself to grow. because change is rejection. change is the acknowledgement that he'll never be enough, that there really is some part of himself so unacceptable, he'll never be able to be loved in his entirety. and it's not until those last moments of the show, when he finally acknowledges claudia as a person unto herself, with a will and autonomy of her own - when he sees louis agonizing over what has to be done, that he begins to understand his own role in their lives. there's a sort of acceptance that he's pushed them too far, that maybe it's not outside forces, or their own inability to accept him, that's at fault for where they've ended up. that maybe he has some responsibility in how all of this played out. it's the first time in the entire show where we really see that lestat could potentially accept that he's not the victim of things beyond his control forever barring him from love, but that he has some responsibility in how others see him. which could, eventually, lead to change.

Just gonna go out there and say it, some of y'all are trying so damn hard when it comes to cultural appropriation that it goes from being helpful to outright speaking over people from other cultures. The amount of times I have seen people not from a culture scream cultural appropriation over someone participating in that culture when the people actually from the culture said that was okay is infuriating
If the majority of people from a culture are saying a part of their culture is open to outsiders, whether it be an event, or a type of clothing, or names, etc, listen to them. Trying to forcibly close a part of someone else's culture that the people themselves DO NOT WANT TO BE CLOSED is not fighting against cultural appropriation. It is not helping them. It is speaking over them, and can do just as much harm as people who speak over the same cultures to insist parts of it are open when they are not. If people in a culture want a part of it to be open, there is a reason for that, just as there is a reason for it when they want a part of it to be closed. Respect that and leave them, and people participating in open parts of other cultures the fuck alone.

fatphobia is always tiring like always always but when it comes from your own family it's like. extra exhausting. it hurts soo bad. you can't ever escape it
#like that one coworker who pokes fun at your relationship with food and it's obviously rooted in fatphobia? you'll just go home and he won't#be there it'll hurt for a bit but you'll live#but like beside super dangerous fatphobia (talking life or death shit like medical fatphobia) the one that does the most damage to me#is that coming from my own family.. it's just. you already put 43 conditions before the 'i love you' (that you don't ever say but anyway)#and then when i gained lots of weight that was... another one to add to the list#but maybe i'm not used to it yet idk it's been quite a few years atp but idk?#it just hasn't gotten easier to hear them call me ugly and fat (in a derogatory way) and make mean comments and shame me every other day#like! it hurts so bad! why do you think it's funny!!!!!!!#this doesn't include my mum bc (sadly) she understands what it's like to be shamed for being fat she wouldn't do it to me#not like in a purposefully mean way at least#tho she does do some insidious shit like always going 'there's this new EASY diet that TOTALLY works' or saying x health problem is probably#due to my weight etc#which like isn't good? doesn't help? still hurts me? but it's different bc i know it's not rooted in hating fat people/me being fat#it's more like her own shit she went thru that she doesn't want me to go thru too and like yeah it's fucked up but i get it more than#just outright saying i am disgusting for being fat lol#like mh both suck but at least you're not joking about the fact even if i didn't eat i would be fine cause i'm so fat haha#yeah. just. a lot.#there's no escaping it i think the only way would be to move the fuck out and that would also help with uh. the misgendering thinly veiled#homotransphobia abuse constantly having to put up w their fighting and sometimes fighting w them myself#and the ableism and and and and#basically this is lowkey hell like i've learned to live with it more or less but jesus it is extremely exhausting#i just want out i've wanted out for years but every day i get closer to losing it#there might be something potentially coming up but i have to wait til the end of the month to see if anything comes of it#we'll see.. i rly hope i can rent this place idc if it's small idc if it'll suck most of my paycheck and i'll have to ask for my mum's help#i just need to at least try and get away cause like. i get to august every year and my father is absolutely impossible to deal with#and i know my mum feels the same and i hate leaving her ajnd my brother too but like#at some point i have to think about myself cause god what use am i even to them when i'm a ghost of myself in this house#it's just shit for everyone plus if i really get to rent that place it's literally IN FRONT of my family's apartment i could still help out#but at least i wouldn't LIVE with them i wouldn't feel so fucking trapped#whatever. bad bad bad day physical pain wise too

imagine seeing a cute girl and wanting to get to know her only to find out she's got no job, no degree, no finished apprenticeship, just overall no qualifications or experience - at 25 years old
and also has a body count (not the murderous one) in the double digits
and probably loads of men she barely knows have nudes of her
because she wanted attention and validation
and she also never really goes outside or does anything productive
who wouldn't fall for that
who wouldn't go "yep, that's the one, the special person I'll treat differently from everyone else, the one I won't just kill or whatever"
good thing that none of my f/os have parents (I think?) because that meeting would probably not go well lmao

Reading about your garage reminds me of when my apt flooded; my brother went to take a shower that night and the faucet just blew off and started violently spraying water and it began to spill into the living room. Maintenance never answered the phone because they had strict rules about only answering messages and not just PICKING UP A PHONECALL. We had to call the fire department who ended up breaking into the room that controlled all the water in the building. The water dripped into our downstairs neighbour's apt through our floor too. The Maintenance never showed up until the fire department had already started mopping up. The apt comped us a cleaner but it was so early in the morning we couldn't go back to sleep or we'd miss the cleaner. Didn't end up getting any sleep until noon that following day.
godddd, that sounds horrific, plumbing disasters really are catastrophic, especially when the people who are supposed to help won't answer the phone!!!!! all things considered we were really lucky, we called three supposedly 24/hour emergency services - the first two of which went "best we can do is 8 am, boss," which kind of defeats the point of a 24 hour line - but the third sent out just the Nicest Dude Possible within like an hour and he was able to crawl around in the snow in the dark to find our sewer cleanout and snake the drain. still was like 5 am by the time it was all done, though.
luckily the only backup inside the house proper was in one shower, and we were able to sweep the worst of the water from the garage out the driveway. we've decided to call a sanitizing service for the garage after all tho because even though there wasn't any visible sewage it definitely didn't smell like potable water and we have a lot of boxes 'n stuff in there that we're like "......is this okay" about :/ which is gonna be really fucken expensive but again!! what can ya do!!

listen. There's a whole mentality shift that needs to happen culture wide here, from the schools to the public infrastructure to pet ownership to the justice system
The proper response to your dog doing a natural behavior you dislike (digging/barking/protecting etc) it to give them an appropriate time and place to engage in that behavior
The proper response to skateboarders damaging infrastructure is to build more and better skate parks, or build skate elements into the public infrastructure on purpose.
The proper response to homeless people sleeping on park benches is to build them houses.
you see how there's like, a commonality at play here?
The proper response to a disruption is to address the root of the disruption directly, not somehow attack the disruption itself -
you don't invent a muffler by swinging a bat at the engine noise, you don't relieve your hunger by punching yourself in the stomach, you don't resolve public unrest by sending armed men to control them and you don't prevent homeless people using bus shelters as a roof by removing the bus shelters.
a whole ass shift in a basic mindset, i'm tellin' you. We need it.
