Here’s a the thing. I don’t WANT to criticize live action remakes so they’ll take the hint and do better. I don’t think it’s possible to do better. Animation isn’t meant to be adapted to live action movies or shows!

I want people to stop asking for live action remakes. I want them to watch animation and love it and enjoy it AS IS! Or I want updated versions with new and interesting animation styles and different storytelling elements.

Live action has its place, but it is not the end-all-be-all of media!

Gotham: Holy shit there's a random animal running around Gotham city and no one's ever caught it before. They say it only appears in thunderstorms and anyone unfortunate enough to cross paths with it look as if they've been hit by thunder.

Dan phantom, the 'random animal' who is in fact a Raiju in question: If I destroy this place I'll be fucked over by Clockwork. But if I don't destroy this place I'll keep being followed by this brat.

Damian Wayne, the brat in question: There is an animal roaming Gotham in thunderstorms, father. We must save it!

The entire 3-minute city ambiance scene from Ghost in the Shell (1995) is already one of the best moments in all of cinema imo, but I NEED to talk about my absolute favorite part from it:

That brief moment when Major Kusanagi and a stranger with her exact same body model catch a glance at one another. How quickly the initial curiosity of seeing the doppelgänger turns into a feeling of unease as the boat carries her away.

She will never meet this stranger. She'll never know anything about her other than the simple reminder that every piece of her cybernetic body is not unique to her. There is no part of her other than her brain and all its memories that she has any true ownership of, and even that isn't immune to being hacked and potentially erased by outside forces. Despite being a part of a bustling city, all she can do is reflect on how utterly isolated she feels as a living being.

How can she possibly define her humanity when she herself is confined in the form of what is essentially a highly modified weapon? How can she relate to others when she has more in common with the mannequins on display in a shopping mall than with the any of the people walking the streets?

All of this inner turmoil at one’s own existence conveyed without a SINGLE word of dialogue spoken. Now that's the power of cinema if I've ever seen it!

Who Is Allison Moore?: A Disney's Wish Mystery

OK, this is a little off the rails and random but this has been driving me crazy since I looked into it last night.

So, Disney's 100th Anniversary movie Wish is coming out soon and people have had a lot of hot takes about it so I wanted to do some digging. As part of that, I looked at the writers and two people have a "Screenplay by" credit: Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore.

Jennifer Lee, of course, wrote Frozen--their biggest princess hit in the modern era so that makes total sense to me. If you're coming out with a new princess movie for the big centennial of course you'd tap her. But I'd never heard of Allison, and when you look at her name on Wikipedia:

No blue link. So I headed to IMDB to check out her credits, figuring maybe she was some hot new talent recently promoted from within who did storyboards on some recent projects like Moana or something. But when I went to her IMDB page, this is what I found (after a brief mix-up with a Dexter's Lab actress):

Her Producer credits come up first and...huh. That's a lot of adult live action TV projects. Well, maybe her Writing credits are where this starts to make sense:

What? That can't be right, can it? The only vaguely Disney-esque thing on that credit list is Beauty and the Beast and, to be clear, that is a CW reboot of a 1987 procedural with the logline, "A beautiful detective falls in love with an ex-soldier who goes into hiding from the secret government organization that turned him into a mechanically charged beast." And she wrote two episodes on it.

And look at Disney's official page about Wish!

Everyone else on this page has credits that make sense--Frozen, Frozen 2, Raya, Encanto. And the two credits they list for Allison?

Night Sky and Manhunt.

Night Sky, an Amazon Prime show that she wrote one episode for and was cancelled after one season. And Manhunt--and show about hunting the UNABOMBER--that ran for two seasons and that she wrote two episodes for. Those are her two credits that they put up there next to Frozen and Encanto.

I have been scouring the internet trying to figure out who this woman is and how she got this job and I have come up *empty*. This is the big 100th anniversary movie! Why would they have one of the two screenplay writers be someone who seemingly has never done something like this before??? Like, I understand that not having done something before doesn't mean you can't do a good job, but it usually means you don't get the keys to the biggest most anticipated projects in the company's history!

They presumably could have gotten anyone they wanted for this and they picked this person and I have zero clue why and it's driving me crazy. If anyone has ANY information that could illuminate this at ALL--an interview, a social media post, gossip from your cousin who's a gofer at Disney--please let me know because I feel like I'm going full Pepe Silvia over this.

One of Damian’s pets passes. Instead of moving on it’s a Cujo situation.

Damian’s animal does not move on. Instead attacks the ghost king to get back to Damian by becoming king. The animal thinks its the only way to get back to Damian. So Danny now had a feral animal constantly attacking him.

Danny just has gotten used to the attacks. One day sam is complaining about a gala she’s being forced to. She shows tucker and Danny pictures of the Wayne’s.

Just in time for the attacker to see the picture and start hitting the picture. It clicks for sam what’s going on.

Sam has the brain cells.

Danny now brings the ghost animal to Damian. Telling him that his pet is feral, then proceeds to explain how to care for an ecto-pet. Also a supply of ecto supplements to add to the pets food.

earlier was gazing in awe at the trunk of an old apple tree at the splendid pasture of lichen and moss in which there were tiny pinkish eight-legged bugs walking around, like little cows in a beautiful dappled field, so small that my phone camera can't even catch them except as little blurry spots.

My eyes had to focus in closely in a maneuver that was physically strange, the strangeness communicating to me that I wasn't used to looking at something so small. There are levels of smallness that we humans are able to perceive, but leave mostly unused in our world.

It made me feel very strange to realize that humans are among the largest organisms ever to exist, and that the majority of species by number and diversity are of a size where the scale of their world has no conception of continent bounded by ocean and biomes ranging from forest to desert, where entire lifetimes are lived upon the branches of a great organism so incomprehensibly large it might as well be an island or continent or world in itself. Organisms for whom the changing of the seasons is like the rise and fall of empires and ages, whose senses likely cannot fully perceive us due to our prodigious size, who could be destroyed by a touch and thrown from their world into a totally alien place by a breath.

If God was imagined by ancient peoples, then he is evidence of a species learning to understand itself, identifying intentionally with the status of Smallness so our Vastness does not make us cruel gods to those to whom we are powerful.

We still have so much to learn...

random note about king on that animation, i got really lucky with how simple his animation was and how clean my sketches were to begin with that i was able to do very minimal cleanup on what i had sketched (and add back. his horn. it's supposed to take place just after echoes of the past, Oops) and call it done that way instead of having to redraw the entire thing like i had to on his dad

first sketch > line cleanup > nearly final animation (i'd added slight eye movements last-second but otherwise that's the final)

I AM NOT AN ANIMATOR I AM JUST A HOBBYIST...#i animate like once a year... shits hard man.... but apparently when i do animate. its extremely good :) proud of that #even if i have an extremely unhinged way of animating #i don't have an animation program i draw everything individually frame by frame in photoshop #each character had their own psd file with the same background and every frame was its own group. twice. one for sketch one for colors #i do test takes with gifcam (there are literally 55 WIP gifs in my documents folder rn) by switching between layers and taking a 'frame'#and i compile in blender's video editor and to move things separately i save each character's frame in its own .png 'cel'#so luz was her own 'cel'. king was his own 'cel.' etc. and then i have to manually slide the lengths of the frames around #to match the right framerate. traditionally animation is animated at 24 FPS on 2's - so 12 frames a second. i go on 3s. 4 to slow down #anime-ass framerate. i'm insane apparently but its what i like to do #i dont understand real animation programs they have too many pieces but i DO understand photoshop and my funny brushes #imagine having Digital Programs and Still basically doing ye olde traditional animation method just in the computer #if im Just making a gif then i only use gifcam and switch between layers. like digital stop motion. somethings wrong with me

i would need an entire doc to list all the things i've written on him thus far but i'd love asks/questions (and perhaps suggestions!)

im gonna be real here... most of the changes have to be the fact he has a cape and, messy hair, with flowers/leaves caught in it (ever heard of a brush???)

thinking a lot about nanami's motif being animals. you know what i mean. her fear of being an inhuman freak or lesser or disposable... it's equally fucked up in her mind to be a girl who lays eggs as it is to be the only girl in the world who doesnt lay eggs. she thinks the best way to make anthy seem fucked up and weird is to make everyone associate her with "vermin" like snails and snakes. she talks about other girls "swarming around touga like insects" and then at her lowest point calls herself an insect

the pivotal event that made her the way she is was killing an animal. touga, who is her only family, seems to care so little for her that she felt like she had to be in competition with a cat for scraps of attention from him.. she has nightmares about being a calf whos taken to be slaughtered and eaten by the person shes most desperate to please. boxing kangaroo and surfing elephants are there cause anthy was having a little fun with it or something
