❝ [sloppy] ❞
↳ “how bts like to get fucked”
↳ boypussy!bts x reader
↳ dom!reader, sub!ot7, (kinda) implied poly!ot7, reader isn’t gendered but has a dick, unprotected sex, vaginal penetration, squirting, dacryphilia, praise kink, degradation/slut shaming (consensual dw), breeding kink, daddy kink (r. receiving), pet play, mentions of bondage, lmk if i’m missing anything <3
↳ don’t know if anyone else fucks with bp bangtan… but i know i do!! also catboy yoongi is sooo hot to me - rory
❝ [kim seokjin] ¡! ❞
↳ seokjin will take you in any way you could think of. this man loves getting fucked more than anything in the world, so feel free to bend him over whenever you want. but he especially loves when you have him ride your cock, making him do all the work without you even lifting a finger. although jin is the #1 pillow princess, he can’t help but enjoy it when you punish him by making him seek his own pleasure without your help.
“what do you need, jinnie?” you can see how your words make him shiver from where he is sat in your lap. “please want your cock. i’ve been waiting for days!” his eyes are getting more teary the longer you make him wait. “i know you have been, sweetheart, i can feel you dripping through your panties.” he gasps, hips slightly shifting to gratify the pent up need radiating through his body. seokjin lets out small whines at the feeling of your cock rubbing against his clothed pussy. your hands come to rest on his hips to stop his movements, making him cry out, tears finally leaving his eyes as he pathetically pushes against your hands to let him move again. “if you want my cock, you can get it yourself.” once he hears your statement, jin is immediately scrambling to pull down both of your underwear and sliding down onto your dick. his slick walls easily suck you deeper as he rests his hands on your shoulders to help keep himself up right. he sits still for a moment, beautifully empaled of your cock, only to be startled back to reality when you place a sharp smack on his ass. “thought you wanted it bad, jinnie, what’s taking you so long?”
❝ [min yoongi] ¡! ❞
↳ yoongi likes it best when you take him from behind. holding himself up on his hands and knees, back arched as you pound in and out of his messy cunt. he loves it when you play into his fantasy, turning your little kitty into a bitch in heat. yoongi wants you to put a collar on him and place cute cat ears on his head, maybe even push a tail buttplug up his back hole. if he gets deep enough into his headspace he’ll start meowing, which makes you start fucking into him at a feral pace while you pump him full of your seed.
all that was heard throughout the dorm was the sound of skin on skin and the wet noise of slick being pushed out of yoongi’s hole. every time you hit his special spot, he would let out a string of meows which only encouraged you to fuck him harder. “does it feel good, kitty?” “meeoow~” was all he responded with, not being able to communicate with words once he got this far into his own head. “want me to fill you up with my pups? gonna knock you up just like you’ve been begging for, kitten.” your vulgar language causes the man’s arms to give out, making him fall face first into the mattress, the cat ears sliding further down into his disheveled hair. you reach your arm under his torso and force him to arch his back more, causing him to fuck your cock deeper into his soaking pussy. the wet sounds made by your ongoing thrusts cause yoongi to cry out, clenching around your dick as he gets closer to his climax. you groan at the feeling and finally fill him up, making him whine and cry as his greedy pussy sucks up every last drop.
❝ [jung hoseok] ¡! ❞
↳ hobi is a slut for seeing your face. any position where he can look at you while you fuck him will make him come very quickly. he loves when you put his legs over your shoulders while you fuck into him, the angle shooting pleasure straight to his core. he’s so loud in bed, unable to stop himself from screaming out when you hit the right spot inside him. he doesn’t even care if his members hear the noises he lets out, wanting them to know that he’s getting fucked by you so well.
“oh myyyy godd!!” hoseok’s screams reverberate around the room as you continue to piston into him at and incredible speed. each time you thrust into him his body goes flying against the headboard, legs flailing from where they are stationed around your shoulders. “that’s it, seok-ah. let everyone know how good i’m fucking you. bet they’re rubbing themselves to the sound of your moans.” your words have his legs trembling and his hands grasping at your arms, which are placed on his hips to keep him in place. “please! please i need it so bad!” hoseok cries out, the amount of cream caking at the base of your dick increasing after each thrust. “i’ll give you whatever you need, baby.” as you finish your sentence, he meets your eyes and you can feel the way he tightens at the intimate connection. your increasing speed causes immense pressure in his pussy, causing him to squirt around you. the liquid soaks both of your stomachs and makes the slide of your cock into his overstimulated pussy much smoother.
❝ [kim namjoon] ¡! ❞
↳ joon likes to get fucked laying on his bed with his legs wrapped around your waist. it’s so relaxing for him to have the ability to sit back and be taken care of. he enjoys you fucking him at a fast but gentle pace, relishing in the feeling of your cock sliding in and out of his walls. joon absolutely loves when you come inside of him but he doesn’t mind if you pull out and nut all over his thighs and tummy.
“taking me so well, joonie” “thank you, thank you- i love it so much. fucking me so good~” he replies, eyes struggling to focus on yours as you continue to thrust inside of him. “are you close, baby? i can feel you getting tighter around me.” your words makes his eyes roll back into his head and his mouth fall open in a silent moan. “gonna come! please can i come?” you lean down to suck on his neck as he keeps begging for release. you reach you hand between your two bodies, quickly rubbing his clit to bring him closer to the edge. “of course you can, baby. want you to come all over my cock.” at your words, he flings his head back against the pillows and allows the pleasure to overtake him. he releases his juices around you, soaking your hand and the bed sheets beneath you. “such a good boy, gonna come inside you now. i know you want it, baby.”
❝ [park jimin] ¡! ❞
↳ jimin really loves riding you, goes crazy at the thought of being able to take your dick however he wants. he especially likes reverse cowgirl, he loves twerking on your cock to hear you groan and give him a good slap on his cheeks. the sting only helps to keep him going, riding you harder once he knows that you are enjoying the view. another fan of creampies, he doesn’t like to let any of your come go to waste. if it slides out once you’re done with him, he’ll scoop it up with his fingers and shove it back inside.
jimin turns away from you, straddling your hips and lining himself up with your large cock. he is always excited when he’s able to take you inside him, no matter how long it’s been since it last happened. once he slides down to the hilt he looks back at you, only to find you staring straight at his butt. “i can never get enough of your fat ass, min. you always look so fucking good taking me.” you end your statement by gripping both of his asscheeks in your palms. jimin whines at once the possessive feeling of your hands on him disappears, leaning forward slightly and shaking his ass on your cock, listening to the sound of it clapping against your skin echo around the sweaty room. you groan at the sight and plant your feet against the bed, bucking your cock deep into jimin’s waiting pussy. he knows that by the end of the night he’ll be full of your seed and that satisfies him enough to let you set the pace, grasping the skin of your thighs in his small hands. “that’s it daddy, jiminie loves your dick so much.”
❝ [kim taehyung] ¡! ❞
↳ taehyung likes to be held while you’re having sex. whether that be you holding him tight to your chest while you gently thrust into him on the bed, or pining him against the wall as you claim his pussy for your own pleasure. as you go between the different scenarios, tae has his preferences of how he likes to be treated and addressed. if you’re slowly making love to him on your shared bed, he likes when you praise him and tell him how well he’s taking you. on the other hand, he loves when you call him a dirty whore when you are fucking him so fast he can barely comprehend what’s going on. as long as you give him proper aftercare, he’s happy.
“how do you want it tonight, taetae?” you gaze down at your sub from where he’s seated on the couch. “want to feel it. please.” he looks at you with puppy eyes and a pout that you would never be able to resist in a million years. “of course, jagiya. you know i’ll always give it to you however you want.” you lean down to scoop him into your arms, his legs automatically wrapping around your waist and his arms circling your neck. you carry him through the hallway, unable to focus on your steps as he sucks on your neck. you come to a stop outside his bedroom door, pushing him against the wall, unable to resist the urge to take him any longer. you shove your pants down and push his panties to the side, inserting your cock into his waiting hole and setting an overwhelming pace. taehyung throws his head back against the wall as you push into him and whisper dirty things into his ear. he comes alarmingly quick due to the amount of stimulation you were providing him with, you following shortly behind him, pulling out to come across his stomach. as you come down from your highs, you hear the door open down the hall and a voice ring out, “can we join next time?” you laugh at the request, knowing tonight is gonna be long for both you and taehyung.
❝ [jeon jungkook] ¡! ❞
↳ one of jungkook’s biggest kinks is bondage. he loves the feeling of being restricted and not having the ability to touch you. it makes him incredibly wet that you are able to do whatever you want to him and he can’t do anything to stop you. he likes when you tie his hands behind his back and fuck him doggy style, having to shove his face into the pillows to quite his screams. he also loves having you eat him out before fucking him because it gets him nice and ready to take your fat cock, but also it turns him on so much seeing you not be able to resist yourself when your face is shoved in his cunt.
“yes!! fuck me with your tongue! feels so good… i don’t know if i can wait any longer.” as soon as jungkook says that, you remove your face from his pussy, grabbing his hair to pull his back flush to your chest. “you’re not going to come until i’m fucking you with my cock. do you understand?” he immediately nods at your words, grinding his ass against your bulge as he tries to get you to put your dick in him. “words, guk.” “yes! yes! i understand! i promise i won’t come until you tell me to!” you let out a satisfied groan at his words, shoving his legs apart to line your cock up with his entrance. as you push in, jungkook can’t help but scream into the sheets beneath him, the pleasure in his core building up as you bottom out.

Simon Riley x Dog Sitter! Reader pt. 3
<- Previous Next ->
Warnings: mild cursing, boredom, thas really it
A/N: Holy shit I cannot believe how much love this is getting, and it's so much fun to write!! I've decided to makes this a fully fledged fic instead of just a drabble, and I'll be posting it on ao3 too! Let me know if you'd like to be added to the taglist! Also sorry if formatting changes, I'm trying to have some sort of order among my writing.
Tumblr media
Simon had never told you how long he'd be gone - which was fine, your flat was only a twenty-minute drive from his home, should you need to do laundry or get more soap. You had some freelancing logo-design work you could focus on in your downtime, and Simon had been gracious enough to leave a note on the coffee table with the wifi password. Truth be told, you imagined this would feel like a holiday: no more shitty bosses. You were your own boss, here. You could make your own schedule, as long as you made time for Riley.
You soon discovered, after moving into Ghost's house, that it was very much not a vacation. The interior of his home was so barren that it made you feel like you had been sent to an asylum. On your first day there, you managed to get a bit of freelance work done; after that, you tried watching the telly, but you couldn't drown the heavy restlessness in the back of your mind.
You decided to phone a friend.
"What's Riley like?" Leslie said through the phone, which was tucked under your ear.
"Military dog." You replied. You were lying on the floor next to Riley, stroking her fur as her head rested on your stomach. "So proper, I've never seen anything like it. You know- when I made breakfast today, I dropped some food on the linoleum- she didn't bat an eye. Girl just watched."
"That's amazing... you know Donald would have run to it like it was the first meal he'd been fed in years."
You laughed, making Riley's head bounce on your abdomen. "Mum has got to stop feeding them real food..."
"What about the client?" Leslie said, changing the subject. "Simon, was it? What's he like?"
"Honestly?" You began, scratching between Riley's ears. "A decent guy, don't get me wrong - but bland. Gruff. His apartment is, too."
"Just like ya mum always said." She snickered. "Can I see?"
You sighed. "Nah, I never checked if it was ok to bring people over. Not sure if he'd appreciate me giving you a tour. But I'll ask next time if you can visit."
"That's fair..." You heard her shuffling around on the other end of the line. "Well listen babes, I should get back to work. Got five left on my lunch break."
You groaned at the prospect of having to be alone in Simon's barren home again. "Alright... still on for this Thursday?"
"You know it! Nina's coming too."
You grimaced. "Whoop-tee-doo..."
"Oh, c'mon, I'll make sure she's civil. Love ya."
"She'd better be. Love you!"
The call ended with a click, and you let the phone slide from your shoulder with a sigh. You stared at the ceiling, running through what you could possibly do. You'd already had a shower at your flat before coming here, you'd done plenty of work...
Riley tilted her head up to look at you, sensing your frustration. You looked back down at her.
"What d'you and Simon do all day?" You asked.
She sighed and looked away.
Maybe it was time for a walk.
"Alright, Riley!" You said, pocketing your phone and sitting up. She scrambled up at the sudden movement; her eyes followed your every move as you stood, her stare expectant and excited.
"Fancy a walk?" You asked.
She whined and yapped, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
You chuckled. "C'mon, then - before you and I both start going insane."
On your way to the closet to fetch her leash, she had nearly knocked you down to beat you there. You huffed, leaning down to grab your shoes and tug them on. She sat (im)patiently and watched, her tail slapping against the wooden floor.
"Alright, alright..." You laughed, grabbing her leash and latching it onto her harness. She obediently trotted to the front door and sat, waiting for you. You opened the door and stepped outside, confused when the leash tugged in your hand. You looked back inside and saw that Riley hadn't moved from her seat on the floor. She looked at you, ears forward and eyes eager as she waited for... something.
You looked at her, puzzled. "What's wrong, girl?"
She whined, pointing one foot up and thumping her tail against the floor.
Oh, right. Military dog.
"Okay, Riley." You said clearly, and she happily trotted out the door. You chuckled, locking the deadbolt behind you and beginning the much needed walk. She stuck right by your side, never passing you nor falling behind.
For the kind of gruff, admittedly shady man that Simon was, you noticed that he lived in a pretty nice area. If you told your mum where he lived, she'd blow a cap out of jealousy - the houses were neatly lined down the street, each one with a driveway and a small garden bed underneath the living room windows. Simon's was noticeably bare - Christ, even his grass was thinner than the other neighbors', how does one manage that?
You eyed his empty garden bed as you passed it. You wondered if he would let you plant a few things... just to liven up the drabness. A couple of Hostas, maybe some African Violets... you knew he wouldn't want too much colour, but he definitely needed something to brighten his home. Currently, it stuck out like a sore thumb against the other houses. Not to mention, it would give you something to slice through the boredom of staying here.
Eventually, the sidewalk led to the edge of a small patch of woods. A bridge stretched over the creek, which then led to a longer, winding path through the trees. You came to a halt, reading the sign next to the trail.
"Po-wee-hee-co park..." You mumbled and Riley stared at you with her tongue hanging from the side of her mouth. "Poeheko Park? You ever been here?"
She looked between you and the trail, sniffing the air. She licked her lips and whined.
"Suppose not, Simon's only ever dragged you around the block a few times, huh?"
She eyed the trail warily, but you could see her eyes brimming with eagerness and interest. You chuckled, reigning in her leash and starting over the bridge. "Time for an adventure!"
------------
Simon sat stoicly on the heli, eyes fixed on the wall across from him. His palms rested on his thighs, fingers splayed. He appeared calm and collected, focused on the mission that Priced had debriefed not too long ago.
Except, the mission couldn't have been further from his mind. He was thinking about you and Riley. We're you giving her enough attention? That was a dumb question; clearly you knew how much attention a dog needed. You'd done this before... but had you ever worked with a dog that had certain needs and medications? You never mentioned it during the interview, and he didn't remember to ask. What if you couldn't see the signs when Riley's pain was flaring up? What if you had forgotten that she needed pain medication?
He thought about texting you - but he quickly shut the thought down. He'd reserved texting for emergencies only, and he knew you were good at your job. There wasn't a moment of your life you hadn't spent around dogs, of course you would take perfect care of Riley.
"Honin' in, LT?" Soap's voice echoed through the coms as he took the seat opposite from Simon. He was relaxed, as if this was just another Friday for him - well, Simon supposed, it was.
"Always." Simon replied gruffly, focusing back on the mission at hand. He cleared his throat and flexed his fingers, trying to keep a cool composure.
"How's Riley doin'?" Soap asked. "Know I jus' seen 'er a few days ago, but- ye finally cave n' get someone to pet sit?"
Simon grunted. "'Course. Not gonna leave 'er alone that long, it'd be torture."
"Who'd ye get?"
"What's it to you?"
"Secret service? Ye snag one of the Royal Guards fer the job?"
"Jog on, Soap." Simon warned with a serious look, and Soap raised his hands in defense.
He couldn't tell Johnny about you. A fierce, possessive feeling in his chest told him not to. He knew Johnny had a thing for young, pretty things like you, and he refused to let you fall victim to his desires. In fact, he hated the thought of it.
But- who was he? Why was he being so protective over someone he barely knew? You were an adult, perfectly capable of making your own decisions. Why should Simon cockblock you and Johnny? So what if he wanted to shag you?
Mentally, he shook his head. No. Never. He'd lock you in his house if it meant keeping Jonny away from you. Even if Simon wasn't anything more than your client, he wasn't going to allow Johnny to get close to you. It would be too weird. You're his, after all.
...
Fuck.
He sighed and adjusted his position in his seat. You and Johnny didn't even know each other, for Christ's sake. He was overthinking all of this. You'd probably never even meet his team, why would you need to? You only ever have reason to spend time in his house, not on base. You just watch Riley, make breakfast in his kitchen, sleep on his couch, maybe his bed, if you're with the dog... using his bathroom, his shower...
He scowled at himself. Maybe hiring you was a huge mistake. You were too distracting.

Can I request Miles 42 bullies you at school and is always bothering you but he gets mad and tries to fight someone else who is bullying you because he’s the only one who can be mean to you😩😩‼️
Deflecting.
Earth42!Miles x Fem!Reader
“I would get your hands off her if I were you, homeboy.”
This one is kiiiinda violent, not by Miles mostly be warned C:
PART TWO !!
Tumblr media
such a cute wife (throw me on an island to live in my delusions)
You were quiet, silent most days. Not stepping out of the very thick circle you’d made for yourself consisting of just you.
And yet, still.
Still, the mere thought of keeping to yourself as a permanent transfer student would make even the most daft of people scoff.
You weren’t anything special, you were void of attention, and happy that way. Acted appropriately and left anger at the door. Had nothing and no one to complain to, so why make problems for yourself?
You’re entire life was just floating along your schooling and waiting patiently for the day you left. Even if you were the rare case of “Got transferred half way through the year because the school saw potential!” girl, you’d just wanted to be left to yourself.
But even the premise of that seemed almost impossible now.
Because ever since you were pushed by some rushing kid straight into Miles Morales, tripping him over with you. Him and his asshole friends had made it their life mission to bother you.
“The cute new girl?”
“Yeah, the one that—,” The first boy glanced at Miles. “,—tripped on.”
“Oooh, shit—, She’s fucked.” The other man whispered back, laughing under his breath. You could feel his taunting stare at the back of your head, and when you checked your peripherals, Miles was sending a sickening glare your way.
You sighed.
The ache in your head was probably the only thing keeping you awake.
The day dragging longer than usual had you right about ready to get home and knock yourself out within a minute of being in your bed. Your hand slowly dragged down your face, taking a deep breath and stuffing your jacket somewhere in your locker. The heat of the school mingling with the temperatures the Summer was providing and then adding on the rain from the prior day? You cursed Brooklyn and its humidity. Reaching to close your locker, you finally fit the jacket in the already cramped space. A little piece of the fabric poked out, and you pushed it in while simultaneously trying to keep everything else in too. Pulling a face before you finally managed to get it shut, and slip your finger out before it can get trapped. You turned the key into the dumb metal and scowled at it before pocketing the key and turning to leave.
Being so engrossed in your feud with the locker, you had failed to realise the very man who’d given you this headache, leering over your frame. Turning straight into his chest and reacting in a pained groan, gripping your forehead in displeasure and glaring up at whomever was standing so close to you.
Which happened to be Miles Morales. Staring down at you with cold, dulled eyes.
“What the fuck are you doing, man?” The simmering anger in your voice was made known, and also promptly ignored. He tilted his head down at you, braids shifting with the movement, his expression barely changing. If only he had a conscience. Then maybe you could read his expression, the emotions on his face —, but in this universe? The thought seemed laughable.
He stepped forward, sending you staggering closer against your locker.
“Back off—,” You’re voice shook a little as you swore. Dropping his eyelids into a glare, he spoke, “You keep talkin’ to me like that, and we gon’ have a problem.”
“You keep creeping up on me like a fuckin’—,”
“Like a what?” Miles’s bored, taunting voice grated against your eardrums.
You let out a shaky breath, chest heaving, and clenched your jaw. Shaking out the annoyance in your bones, you kept your calm.
“Don’t get shy on me now.”
A surge of anger rose through you, before you willed it away.
He was antagonising you.
You tried not to instigate him. If you didn’t encourage it, maybe he’d go away.
“Never mind. Whatever, Why—,”
“Miles, my man.” A different man clapped him on the shoulder, giving you the chance to step back and away from him. The other man was tall and lanky, spindly in the way where he looked out of place for a high school. His blue eyes caught sight of you, smirk contorting the bridge of his nose and baring his teeth. “Fuck you doin’ with this thing?”
“What d’you want.” Miles diverted attention from you quick, his companion not getting the hint.
“Fuck, nevermind man,” The man sent a sleezy smile at you, looking you up and down slowly, a short whistle under his breath.
“Shut the fuck up, James.”
You glared are the taller man, something like bile clawing at your throat. The way he was talking about you was sickening, nothing more than a bothersome rodent.
Miles glanced at you, raising a brow, he wanted to see how long it would take before you’d finally fight back. Through the months you’d been at this school, not once had you actually lost your nerve.
On worse days, like this one, you gave him attitude. Snapping at him the moment he showed up, knowing if you didn’t, he’d take the chance too first. He looked forward to those days, where you would engage him. It sent some sick thrill through him. Watching the way your eyes unfocused, urging yourself not to roll them. How your composure surely chipped but never cracked, fingernails digging prints of a fine line when dug into your palms.
He watched your breathing stutter and counted your breaths with you, he’d basically memorised the pattern.
10 beats in, hold for 8, and 12 beats out.
Though, this was only on a good (bad?) day. Other days you just stood and took it. Letting him say whatever he wanted to you, talk shit right to your face. Spread rumours without repercussions and mess with you just because he had the urge.
And just like always. Through the heat of Summer and the full ache in your head, you managed to do nothing.
Just stand and stare as James acted like you were less to a piece of meat.
Miles scowled, dropping his shoulder and causing the man to fall from leaning on him. “Omf— Hey! What the fuck, dude.”
“Let’s go.”
James scoffed, rolling his eyes but following behind nonetheless.
“Miles, what was that shit about?”
“None of your fucking business, homeboy.”
Their voices faded as they walked away, the white noise of chattering people swallowing the scraping of James’s voice.
You wondered what Miles had really wanted this time, as he hadn’t gotten the chance to say anything with James showing up. You hate to thank him, but god. You might’ve lost your mind.
Four months in and you were losing your mind. Miles hadn’t stopped, neither had his determination. He seemed so eager to piss you off and do nothing but stare coldly as you composed yourself every time.
Just as that thought brimmed in your head, something kicked out in front of you, sending you flat on your stomach. Hands pressed into the hardwood of the gym below. You groaned, knees being knocked straight to the ground, landing with your arms outstretched in front of you. At least it wasn’t your face.
A voice was heard behind you and you froze, unsure what to do at that moment.
“Get up, [Name].”
James.
“Yeah, I’m—“ You shuffled back onto your feet. Standing up cautiously and checking your uniform was in place.
“Shut the fuck up.” He interrupted you, and you turned around slowly to face him. “Ever since I made it clear how little you were fucking worth, that dipshit Miles has been a fuckin’ dog to me.” He spat at you, the anger rising in his voice, he gripped the polo shirt you wore, dragging your limp upper half closer to his.
You shivered at his breath on your face, wanting to gag.
“Sorry.”
“You’re a fucking freak—.” His group of even more childish people were standing behind him like some sort of team work movement.
“Please let go.”
“I’ll fucking gut you. I needed that motherfucker—,” “Woah.” “,—He’s lucky I don’t beat his ass for ditching me.” Seems like attachment issues. “And you too, cunt. I’ll end your fucking life.”
He pulled you ever closer, using his height to intimidate you, six foot four of an angry man standing over you, no thanks.
A whistle was heard from the main room of the Gym, prompting James to let go of you.
“You’re lucky you’re a looker, call it pretty privilege.”
“..”
“Next time I’ll fucking kill you.”
You dropped from where you had been dragged onto your toes, stumbling a little as James’s group snickered when they walked past, bumping your shoulder and wolf whistling.
The lesson ended, and you rushed to get out of there. Making your way to the locker room, and being the first in there, also the first to leave. Changing from your sports uniform and rushing out of the Gym.
You kept looking over your shoulder, Knowing that James wasn’t lying. He probably would kill you, or, objectively worse.
You tripped over your feet before righting yourself again. People around sent curious looks to you which you ignored easily.
Getting to the front of the school, glass double doors shut with a “locked” sign on it, you continued to shoulder forward. Ignoring the shout of the office lady, you pushed against the metal bar and opened the door. You’d already known about the doors being unlocked constantly, having seen many times teachers trying to check no one was watching before slyly slipping out. So when the door opened for you with no trouble, you breathed out quick, and booked it.
You praised yourself for the amount of cardio you could do, the school was three stories for goodness sake, the amount of stairs you needed to climb was insane.
You slid to the side, dodging the occasional pedestrian and making it to the main gate, another shout was heard from the front of the school and you slipped out the gate just as it opened for another teacher, thanking them as you passed.
“Thank you!” You shouted as you ran.
“You’re welcome?— Oh..”
“Kid, Get back here!”
The office lady watched you hit the end of the street and turn, no longer in her sight. She threw her hands in the air and sighed.
“I’m going to get fired.”
“No, Marlene. I’ll cover you.”
“Thanks, John.”
“Why were they running, anyway?”
“Dunno, maybe AP exam.”
Miles watched as James was escorted back inside the building. His scowl etched onto his hideous face. Two of their shared buddies trailed behind him, rolling their eyes at the teachers questioning them.
One of the girls in his group was pressing against him, Miles getting more agitated by the minute. His disinterest in her only seemed to fuel her infatuation more, and it was getting annoying.
The guys at his table were all laughing at some—, probably sexist joke one of them made, the ladies giggling along with them, feeding their toxic lovers the attention they so desperately want. It’s not like Miles thought he was above these people. He just was. They were scum, but the only friends he could keep. Hurt people hurt people, and all that sappy shit. So when you hurt so much, only a small portion of people can stand you, and you them.
But when your name was mentioned, he perked up significantly — his ears fine tuning to the conversation. Completely forgetting about the raven-haired girl pressing against him, and focusing on the words spat by James and his two huevos.
“She’s hot though—,”
“Fuckin’ cares ‘f she is? Woulda beat her ass.”
“[Name]?”
“Yeah, [Name]. Miles got all fuckin’ sissy I thought she was hot, and now we don’t talk.”
“So?”
“So—!? Now I lost my chance with Imogen, she’s all fuckin’ over him cause I’m gone.”
Right, Imogen was her name.
“You want to beat her up over you losing a bitch? Just bag her instead?”
James rolled his eyes, debating it. Miles tensed, his relaxed posture straightened quickly, causing him to almost knock Imogen in the face. Too which she squealed at. An awful noise, really.
He quickly stood, chair falling behind him with a loud clang, and strode out of the hall, Glaring at James the entire time. His two friends laughed James’s sudden hesitance to respond, knowing how piss scared he was of Miles.
James stayed silent until the doors to the cafeteria closed, and the whispers started up. Then told his buddies off in a harsh tone.
No one had ever seen Miles do anything too bad. But with the amount of times he’s shown up to school with a busted nose and smug aura, you could tell—, whatever fight he’d had.
He’d won.
To say that Miles wanted to have the day away from school, probably wasn’t true. With the stuff he’d heard James and his dogs speil, he’d rather you not be alone.
He was—, worried.
But when his Uncle Aaron called him in for something urgent right at 4 AM, telling his Ma it was a work emergency, he couldn’t refuse his Uncle. He fit his mask onto him, faceplates slotting closed. Claws being turned and clicked into place, he flexed his hands, dragging the window of his room open in the early morning, and left with his Momma sound asleep.
The peace and quiet of the day had been rather disturbing. Not having Miles or any of his groupies bother you—. Was off, not unwelcome, but odd.
So when the bell rang for your fourth class, everyone heading from their lunch break back to their assigned classes, it was only by nature you’d be pulled into deserted corner of the school by some unknown figure. A hand placed over your mouth and the other gripping your wrist, pulling you back.
You struggled against the mystery person, a sickeningly familiar voice croaking in your ear.
“Be—,” You kicked your head back, knocking his jaw. “,—Fuckin’ bitch, be quiet.”
Your foot slipped under you, bringing him more leverage to haul you further from the light of the main hall.
You screamed through his hand, tears building behind your eyes when you heard a door unlock.
“Get in.”
“Fuckin—, Open it wider, dipshit.”
“Fuck off.”
James ripped his hand off your mouth before you could realise, pushing the middle of your back so you were forced into a dark, cold classroom.
You fell to your knees, a sense of déjà vu kicking in as you braced yourself with your hands.
Your chest heaved, James slamming the door shut.
“Keith, close those blinds.”
“Fuck are you gon’ do?”
“Beat the fuck outta her.”
Miles stuffed his claws somewhere in his locker, uncaring for secrecy. No one was there now, everyone having gone to class. He’d arrived fairly late, not an unusual occurrence considering his occupation, though. So the office ladies didn’t mind.
He slammed his locker shut, an image of you doing the same with a pout on your lips coming to mind. He had class with you now, sat right next to you, actually.
So he made his way towards the back block of the school, where you’d be.
A hit straight to your cheek sent you flying to the floor again, Mathew letting go of where he was holding you up.
“Dude your grip is shit.”
“Nod off.”
Keith muttered something about “Fucking brit..” from his seat on the prior teachers desk.
You groaned internally, eyes lolling to the closed curtains, the broken glass of the window letting in a sweet breeze. The only reprise from this entire ordeal was a broken window.
There’s some poetry in that, or something.
Blood dripped from your nose and lip. A cut on your cheek now present too. James, the creep, had rings on his thin fingers that, when used, hurt to no end.
You were picked back up by under your arms, closing your eyes in pain and hissing. You opened your eyes in time to see the small glint of metal in James’ pocket, and the wince on Keith’s face before another fist connected to your temple.
You weren’t there.
You had shown up to school, evident by your paper on the lecturers desk, but hadn’t shown up for the period.
And by the empty seats of James, Keith and Mathew. He could only guess what was happening right now.
Miles slammed the door to the class shut, ignoring the panicked yells of his teacher and started towards the darker parts of the school. Where no one used, a chemistry accident setting the safety board director deep in debt and a block of the school unusable.
He flung open his locker when close enough, snatching the prototype version of his claws from the locker. Small, sharp finger coverings that were something close to the claws he had for his Prowler suit. The knuckles were brassed and the wrist latch clasped easily to his skin. He slammed it shut again, not bothering with the lock, and honed in his hearing.
The walls were thin enough.
“Don’t you think this is a little too far?”
“Shut the fuck up, Keith.”
“Fuck you gonna do if she snitches—?”
He gripped James’s wrist, holding the knife away from both you and himself.
“—You gon’ ruin your life for this shit, man?”
“She’s been playing my fuckin’ nerves—, yeah.”
Keith gave him a bewildered look while Mathew stared on in disinterest, still holding you at a position you couldn’t right yourself.
The blood had stained your shirt now, bruising littering your face and body.
James had taken to ditching the knife.
“Fuckin—, Whatever man.”
It clattered to the ground with a large clang, the tiled floors of the science room made the echo ring in your head like the growing migraine.
“Drop ‘er.”
Keith glanced down at you, then backed off. An odd look on his face while he kicked the knife away from James, unintentionally pushing it closer to you.
He walked back to his seat.
Mathew let go, watching as you dropped to the ground and started coughing.
Choking on your own blood before you spat it out.
“You know how long i’ve been wantin’ to fucking do this?”
He raised his leg, tilting your chin up with his boot, how demeaning.
He swung back and kicked your ribs, sending you into another coughing fit while you fought the urge to throw up, tears streaming the blood dripping down your chin.
“Your family ruined my fucking life.” Another kick to your stomach, you gagged.
“Taking my dad, then my fucking girl too?”
What is this guy on about.
“Your fucking daddy couldn’t just mind his own business. Had to get involved, then you.”
A harder kick to your stomach, you clenched your abs and covered your head.
A sudden shock ran over you, a familiarity that always sat with James clicking in your mind.
James Ohnn, son of Jonathon Ohnn, a man who had a hand in the collapse of a still-in-construction Kaleidoscope that was said to bring revolutionary science to the new world. It’s framing shattered while the workers on it all went with it.
His father was the lead scientist of that Kaleidoscope, and by turn in of your dad, was promptly arrested.
“I didn’t do shit—,”
“Shut your fucking mouth.”
He kicked your ribs again, and you swore you could feel them crack.
“I’ll kill you, you fucking ruined me.”
He swiped the knife again, Keith shouting something you couldn’t hear amongst the ringing in your ears.
You shut your eyes, crowding your head with your arms.
A slam broke through the muffles of your mind. Panicked voices and accusations being thrown around before a thick accent curled around your head.
Miles Morales.
“I’d get your hands off her if I were you, Homeboy.”
Miles approached slowly, checking your face while keeping his eyes on the three men.
“Fuck off, Miles.”
“No.” His head cocked to the side, eyes slanting while he assessed the situation.
“What, you gonna fight us?”
James’s voice was shaking. He’d never seen Miles looks o absolutely pissed before.
“Don’t think I can, asshole?”
“It’s three against one.”
“Realmente piensas—, sabes que, no importa.”
Miles lunged at him, Keith and Mathew shouting in tandem while you struggled to keep your eyes open. The pain working its way past your adrenaline and into your bones.
He grabbed James by the wrist, twisting it back and listening to the sickening crunch of his Lunate bone in curious satisfaction. James screamed, trying to tear his hand away from Miles. Even with his right hand pulling too, he wouldn’t budge. The metal clicked together every time James shifted, and Miles gave an extra squeeze before letting go. The force James was pulling sending him flying back, he stumbled and tripped over your feet, falling back and smashing his head on the tiles.
The other two boys scrambled for the door, running out the hallway and whining like dogs.
James groaned, rolling onto his stomach, Miles deadpanned down at him. You watched through blurry vision as Miles picked his up, sat him against the teachers desk, almost slumped against it. Grabbed his hair by his crown, slowly bringing his head forward, bending him at the waist. Before slamming his head back against the wood with a dull thud. He repeated this sick, prolonged process until James had fallen unconscious. Standing over him, then going to grab the knife laid a bit from you. You looked at him from your position, not unthankful, but still—, he was evidently a contributor.
“Don’t move.”
“Wha— Why? I have to get home.”
Miles scoffed, crouching down next to you, knife in hand. His limp wrists resting on his bent knees.
“You gonna’ go home with a cracked rib and busted face? Nah, Chiquita. Vente conmigo, yo te arreglo.”
He stuffed the pocket knife down the side of his Nikes and took off his claws, putting them in the pocket of his jacket.
He hooked his arm under your knees and upper back, cradling you bridal style before standing to his full height.
You panicked a little— “Wha—, No. Miles, put me down.”
“No.”
“Hh— Whatdyu’ mean ‘No’!?”
You hooked your hands over his shoulders and gripped him as he made his way through the back exit of the school.
“I said, I’m taking you home.”
You groaned in pain, shirt lifted to just under your bra line as Miles assessed the damage.
He had been joking when he said cracked rib, but there was an underlying sense of real possibility. According to him though, nothing had been enough to seriously injure you. Except the disgusting looking bruises littering yourself.
You tried to focus away from the pain. Or Miles in general, he was very distracting, the lingering attraction you had when you met thought to be squished, was bubbling up again.
He had an ice pack pressed to your skin, and if you were a tad less conscious, maybe you would’ve made a joke of how cold his hands already were. The sweltering heat doing nothing to soothe the bruising.
“Keep this here.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Watch the attitude.”
You huffed a breath, laugh being painful.
“Yeah, whatever.”
You shifted yourself to alleviate some pain, and took his place holding the pack on your stomach.
He grabbed an anti-septic from the small kit he had for first aid. When he’d pulled it out earlier, you’d questioned it.
“You get injured women on your room often, Miles?”
“Nah, Just you. Usually they can take care of ‘emselves.”
You’d giggled at that, not entirely offended but more so amused he’d decided not to take offence at your jab.
His hands reaching for your face brought you back to the present. Flinching back in surprise, you watched him watch for a moment. “Chill, ma. Just gon’ put this on your cuts. Needa’ touch your face for that.”
You cringed, the twisting of your lip having you suck in a harsh breath. “Yeah—, yeah, okay. Thanks.”
“Mhmm.”
The callouses in his hands were made known the moment he touched you, spreading the cream along the cut on your brow, cheekbone and lip.
His hands were a nice contrast compared to the heat of your cheeks, and the gentleness at which he was using.
When Miles touched your face, leaning his body closer to yours, he wanted to savour the feeling. The softness of your flesh against his own, how he could trace the contour of your cheek without it being awkward. His thumb rubbed a small amount of cream onto your lip and he couldn’t look away. The sight of your blood stained skin under his blemished hands had him stuck in the moment. Unable to answer her last question.
“Miles?”
The way her lips formed around his name sent a burning heat throughout his body.
“Yeah—.”
“Is my lip okay? ‘M I gonna need stitches?”
You poured up at him and he shook his head. “No.”
“Mmh— Okay.”
You looked to the side, addressing his room and Miles watched the way your eyelashes brushed along your cheeks when you blinked.
“Okay, just this left. Gonna be a little cold.”
“Thank you.”
“No stress, Chiquita.”
He grabbed some petroleum jelly, spreading it along the cuts on your face and moisturising the wound.
He then placed adhesive bandages along the places necessary, and placed everything back into his first aid.
“Miles.”
“Yeah, Mami?”
You paused at the name, he’d been using those a lot lately.
“How’d you know to find me?”
He looked down, shuffling up next to you against the headboard. You gazed out the window, ignoring the tension that was eating at the both of you. He did too.
“Gut feeling.”

౨₊ৎ chan
"why are you so angry about all this?"
“you’re seriously asking me that?” his brows raised in disbelief as he spoke.
this what you two had been dealing with lately. unnecessary fights and constant bickering over anything. even today, a weekend, which chan called his ‘golden day’ , you two were yelling across the room.
“yes i am. and i’ll keep asking till you stop acting petty,” you looked him dead in the eye now. your faces were edging closer and closer to his, a defiant glare sparkling in your eyes. chan glared back, but he looked away as quickly, not being able to look at you when you two were fighting. he was used to the warm and admiring gazes, but not these sharp and angry stares. it made his stomach churn with the thought, what if you both got tired of fighting one day?
“if you’re not going to open your mouth no one will be sleeping tonight,” your voice snaps him back to reality, he silently stares at the floor with his head hung low.
“you know i hate him, don't you? i’ve told this story to you like a thousand times already and yet you still talked to him! do you think that’s fair?” he raised his voice and immediately regretted it. but there was no taking it back now. words can only be taken back in laptops or phones, not in real life.
“i just talked to him for barely even two minutes, chan! you’re being ridiculous at this point. do you think this is fair?” you cock your eyebrow at him, not hesitating to raise your voice as well since he walked down that path first.
“it doesn’t matter how long you talked, the point is you talked even after knowing our rough past. it’s almost like you don’t care about me or my feelings anymore! you’ve changed. you’ve become. . . selfish,” ouch. that had to hurt. and chan noticed the way your eyes instantly dulled. he licked his lower lip anxiously and watched as your frown deepened.
there were no further words uttered from your side which made him realise just how far he went, “babe. . . i- sorry,” the words were stuck in his throat and he could practically feel the tears building in his eyes as you took a shaky breath. he took a step closer and raised his hand to touch your face, but you avoided that and walked away.
maybe it was selfish indeed. or maybe not, he wished to not answer that as he sat on the couch and dragged a hand across his face filled with guilt. and as he stared at the hallway where you walked out, he could only hope to turn back the time and undo his mistake. but for now, he needed to wait. or fight for you.
౨₊ৎ minho
minho let out a frustrated groan when he felt the couch dip beside him. he threw a mere glance, before opening his laptop and typing something. it was unusual of him to act this frustrated and even when you tried to talk to him he glared in your way.
“i understand you’re having a bad day but it doesn’t mean that you can act however you want,” you muttered and scooted away from him before crossing your arms over your chest.
“then simply don’t understand,” he muttered nonchalantly and leaned closer to the laptop screen as he typed. this infuriated you even more.
“can you at least pretend to care? i’m not a statue sitting beside you!” his gaze shifted to you and he pressed his lips into a straight line.
“of course i will! should i even leave my job and tell my boss that my partner wanted to argue with me while i work?” sarcasm dropped all over his tone and it made you nauseous. you couldn’t believe your ears thay minho, lee minho was acting this way. he rolled his eyes and muttered a ‘thought so’ , upon seeing you go quiet and diverted his gaze back to the laptop in front of him.
“why do you have to make everything so difficult? why can’t you just talk like normal people do?” your gaze hardened and he could feel it. rolling his eyes, he switched his gaze back to you and saw you, a new you. your jaw was clenched harshly it was almost as if you were a ticking time bomb, just finding the right time and you could explode.
but minho was no less. the last thing he wanted was to submit his work after his deadline. and time was ticking as always. it doesn’t wait for him.
“the world doesn’t revolve around you! you need to know that. i have submissions to make and i can’t afford to lose my job when i’m this close to getting promoted,” with a final look he picked up his laptop and marched into your shared room. you poked your inner cheek with a tongue and wiped a lone tear that dripped on your cheek. this was going to be one hell of a night. and what hurt you even more is that he didn't even try.
౨₊ৎ changbin
changbin just unlocked the door to your shared apartment and quietly took off his shoes before slipping in the flip-flops. his heart dropped out it’s chest when he saw the date and time. it was two minutes past three. and he wasn’t surprised when the lights flicked on and there you stood, with an exhausted expression and wearing formals.
“shit. . . babe i’m so sorry-“
“you’re sorry?” your scoff definitely took him back. he stared at you nervously and felt his palms get clammy.
“if you’re sorry then you wouldn’t have forgotten our second anniversary! if you’re sorry then you wouldn’t have forgotten our booking! and if you’re really sorry then you would’ve at least called!” you yelled loudly and he could feel himself grow annoyed even though he was at fault.
“babe, i’ve had a tiring day and a bad headache. could you please not shout?” his soft tone took you by surprise but there was disappointment all over your face as he simply began to walk away.
“that’s it then? you’re just walking away like that? like a coward running away from his problems?” your throat felt dry when his head turned and his eyes met yours. his brows were furrowed in anger and he took a step towards you.
“me? a coward? if working my ass off means i’m a coward then maybe i am one. but i’m not running away from my problems. i’m simply solving them at the right times,” he muttered and gave you a tight smile.
“right time, huh? then why can’t you appear at the right times during our dates?” you replied, weakly. you were tired too. tired of his excuses, his empty promises, his apologies. they felt like nothing anymore. he had let you down too many times.
he opened his mouth to say something but closed it back again realising it could worsen the situation. with a soft sigh, he pressed his lips to your head and muttered a sorry before walking away.
maybe, the right time required you both to sit down and talk calmly.
hyunjin
“baby,” you hummed in response, making him continue, “i have a tour coming up so i’ll be gone for two months.”
the words slipped his mouth so easily as if he almost didn’t care. he came back home a week ago. out of which, he spent more than half of his time occupied at the company.
“you just came back!” the exasperation was visible in your tone and hyunjin bit his lip, feeling guilty. he cupped your face and said, “i’ll call you everyday, i promise.”
with a glare you shrugged his hands off and sat straighter to get your point clear, “if i wanted a boyfriend who can only call me why didn’t i just go for long distance?”
hyunjin’s expression changed. he ran a hand through his hair harshly, “i thought you knew what you were getting to when you started dating me.”
“yes i did! i still do. but that doesn’t change the fact that you have the upper hand in your life. which means you should be able to make some time for me?” it felt pathetic, to beg for his time. to sit there at home waiting for him. always. like the desperate being you were. and you began to even pity yourself.
“how long do i have to wait for you hyun? just how long?” and as the tears finally slipped through, hyunjin pulled you in a tight hug. he let you hit him. he let you curse him. and in the end he didn’t let you walk and slip away. but maybe, trying harder would be better. the thing that stung the most was time. time that he didn't have for you. time that he promised he would give, but never did. maybe it was time to take some right decisions for both of you.
౨₊ৎ han
you had been trying to get your boyfriend to talk to you for about 15 minutes now. it was a chore. it was exhausting. but you knew something was wrong and you weren't going to let him suffer alone.
“what’s your problem?” he snapped. annoyance written bold on his forehead as he stared at you, waiting for an answer.
“you’re too unusually quiet today,” you muttered under your breath but he managed to hear it.
it was one of those days where the two of you didn’t hold back.
“oh so now you decide whether i talk or not?” you sighed noticing him still look annoyed.
“don’t put words in my mouth jisung,” your eyes warned him, and he snapped himself out of it before covering his face with his hands.
“can you just go away for now?” he whispered and looked at you. he looked so . . . tired.
“is that a request or a warning?” your joke had no smiles, neither out of you nor him. he expectantly looked at you making you bitterly nod to yourself.
“always has to be me,” and even though it reached his ears he gave no expression, seemingly feel his head throb with thinking too much. he slammed his hands on the desk it made him feel better, maybe not much. but it did not fill the gap in his chest. and it hurt him to reach this point.
౨₊ৎ felix
“lix, i don’t think i can do this anymore,” you muttered and looked away knowing that one look at his face would have you running back in his arms. you had become that weak for him. that weak that you couldn’t resist him or his lies.
“what do you mean baby?” he looked so confused that you almost felt guilty, but then you remembered that he was just being innocent. as if he didn’t lie to you a hundred times. as if he didn’t cause you pain and misery almost everyday.
“i’m tired of you, lix. i’m also tired of us. how long are you going to make me suffer?” your tone caught him by surprise. he stared at you baffled, trying to find words to make you stop speaking like that anymore but he chose to remain quiet when he saw that look of sadness take up on your expression.
“i know we fight a lot babe but i swear i love you,” he held your hands in his hands and pressed a tender kiss while looking at you.
there it was. those words he uttered again, just like always. he would hurt you and then later on he would sweet talk you. and you had grown extremely tired of it.
shrugging his hands off you took a step back, “that’s it felix! if you try to manipulate me once more i’m breaking up with you!”
his brows furrowed in confusion. he didn’t know what you were playing at, but he wasn’t going to back off after being told those words.
“manipulate? i’m simply trying to remain calm! but looks like all my efforts are going in vain,” hurt spread all across his face as he said it. maybe you overthinking it, or maybe not. but one thing was clear, you both hurt each other in ways you didn’t know.
“you always do this! make promises you can’t keep and then talk me out of it,” and even though you stood firm with your decision, you weren’t a fool to not notice the way his shoulders slumped down, and his mouth turn downwards forming a frown.
“what more do i have to do to make you believe that i a sincere about this, about us?” he let out an exasperated sigh after pointing between the two of you.
“just be honest and love me,” and as you uttered those words, your eyes met his and you could see the way it reflected deep sorrow and perhaps guilt? you couldn’t name it.
with a dejected nod, he grabbed his wallet, bag and phone before rushing out of the house.
“i’ll be staying over at chan’s,” he muttered giving you one final look, as if telling you to stop him. but you didn’t, you just nodded and looked away.
he felt all his hopes shatter down upon that one thing, all the things he dreamt of for future could be seen crumbling down and all he could do was let out a shaky breath with his hand trembling all the while as he drove away.
౨₊ৎ seungmin
“where were you?” he practically shouted, startling you.
“i told you i was out with some friends,” you replied, trying to be the calm one.
“some friends? or a special friend?” his tone felt poisonous. it felt unfamiliar on his tongue to speak in this way but he tried not to look too fazed.
“what is that supposed to mean?” you replied pointedly, totally forgetting about remaining calm and stared at him.
“you know exactly what i mean,” his voice lowered down for a second and so did the anger in his gaze, but he held contact wanting you to know it was serious.
“i’ve called you like a million times and i was worried sick because you didn’t tell me where you went!”
“i can take care of myself, seungmin.”
“sure you can, but i don’t trust the other men,” he sighed and his eyes finally softened.
“good night,” he mumbled and walked away, leaving you standing all alone. things were getting better for worse? or for better?
౨₊ৎ jeongin
“stop shouting,’’ he said. It almost made you scoff when he was the one who started it.
“babe it wasn’t funny you know that?’’ you muttered, dejected but he just looked away not having any words to speak.
“i understand they are your friends but you can’t just go and tell them about my problems like that!’’ jeongin let out a deep sigh and looked at you.
“i thought maybe they could help in a way. they’re like my family.’’
“still. you could’ve at least asked me before telling them, you’re basically feeding off every bit of my secrets and i’m even scared to tell you anything now,’’ now that sounded ridiculous to him. you could trust him, and he wanted you to know that.
“you’re clearly overreacting. i just told them why you were feeling off,’’ he ran a hand through his hair growing frustrated that you both didn’t understand each other.
“you gave them the entire speech jeongin. don’t you dare lie to my face!’’ that was the high point. the two of you looked at each other with an abnormally furious gaze. and it made you realise just how long would it take for this to end?
“i’m not lying! Why don’t you understand me? i was just trying to make you feel better!’’
“if you wanted to make me feel better then you could’ve talked to me! and not them!’’
a minute of silence was all that was heard before you took your cue to speak, “am i dating you or am i dating them?’’ the tears came as quickly as they fell. you had grabbed your coat and bag, heading for the door. you didn't think anything else could hurt you. but you were wrong.
what hurt the most was that he didn't stop you.

"I shouldn't have said anything, okay?" you whined, hoping he'd drop the subject-- and Zemo walked in right then, which seemed like the perfect opportunity to change the topic.
"What shouldn't you have said?" Zemo pressed, and you sighed.
"It's-- it's nothing," you shook your head, "I just had a really weird dream last night."
"About?"
You wanted to end it there, but Bucky had to chime in, of course. "Let's just say, this dusty old apartment was getting to see some action for the first time in a few decades," he informed Zemo proudly, who smiled knowingly and continued his walk to the kitchen.
"Ah," Zemo nodded, "I see."
"I swear, I've never had a dream about you like that before," you explained to Bucky.
"I wouldn't take it too personally, James," Zemo suggested as he poured himself some tea. "The subconscious is a completely unpredictable place. We can dream about almost anything, whether or not we desire it in waking life."
"Well, see, that's the weird part," you admitted, shifting nervously in the chair as Bucky stared at you. "You were there, too."
That took his attention away from the tea, certainly; he set down the kettle and came back into the sitting area, leaving his cup behind. "Still, many people believe dreams have meaning... I happen to be one of those people," he added.
"You didn't mention that before," Bucky frowned at you.
"Well, I was going to..."
"I was there, doing what?" Zemo pressed.
"Sitting in the corner reading Machiavelli," you joked. "No, you were, you know... part of it..."
"How was it?" Zemo asked instantly, getting yours and Bucky's eyes on him then.
"Huh?"
"In the dream, having both of us," he clarified, "did you enjoy the experience?"
"U-um, I mean, I don't really remember..." you coughed.
"I don't think that's true," Zemo grinned. "You're wearing it on your face now— is that why you couldn't look at me this morning in the hallway?"
Your face got warmer. "Do I normally look at you?" you deflected.
"More than you realize," he answered cryptically.
"So, it was good," Bucky assumed. "It's obvious, you can just admit it."
You did hesitate, biting on one of your nails, but you nodded, and they both smiled. "Yeah, it was... it was really good..."
"Which one of us was better?" Bucky wondered. "It was me, right?"
"You were... I don't know, you were just different," you shrugged.
"Ugh, that's such a cop-out," Bucky rolled his eyes. "Don't be afraid to hurt his feelings."
"No, really— it's hard to compare," you insisted. "You were sort of, you know, sensitive and... patient, and you—" you looked at Zemo— "were kind of... intense."
Zemo smirked. "I've been told that before, actually. I mean, by people who got the real experience."
Bucky looked with a concerned expression over his shoulder at Zemo. You found yourself biting your lip for a moment.
"I know you won't answer this question, but I have to ask," Zemo began, "did you climax?"
"Oh god," you whined, hiding your face behind your hands.
"See? She did," Zemo smiled, maybe wider than you'd ever seen. "Perhaps even more than once."
"Please shut up," you groaned.
"Holy shit," Bucky smirked, "you really liked it, huh?
"What do you say, James?" Zemo prompted, looking at Bucky, and making you get a little wide-eyed. "Shouldn't we give the girl what she wants?
"Isn't that, uh— I mean, wouldn't that be... weird?" Bucky stammered, cheeks flushing.
"You're so sheltered," Zemo mocked with a small laugh. "Sharing a partner is very thrilling when the correct amount of trust is involved."
"Wait, wait— it was just a dream, I wasn't, you know, suggesting it," you explained nervously.
"I know," Zemo replied, "I am."
There was a tense pause, where all you could hear was your own beating heart.
“You don’t have to say anything,” Zemo offered, “I know it’s a strange thing to say.  Just come here, darling.”
Though your legs were shaking, you got up off the chair and approached him slowly.  He met you in the middle, reaching up to quickly caress your jaw when you were close enough.  Bucky seemed to watch the whole thing in disbelief.  “I-I’ve never—” you began.
“It’s alright,” Zemo assured you softly, “I won’t judge you, or mock you— there’s nothing wrong with what you want.”
You nodded slightly, another form of silent permission, and he leaned in to kiss you— gentle at first, but strong enough to make your knees feel a little weak.  He deepened it quickly, putting a hand at your waist as his tongue began to tease your lips… but just when you pressed into him, ready for more, he pulled away.  He smirked at the way you leaned forward for a moment, but then he looked over at Bucky— you couldn’t quite read his expression, perhaps a bit of disbelief and… more than a decent share of arousal.
He stood up, and stepped up to you two, and you could tell he was in over his head— but you pulled him closer by his shirt, sighing as your hand felt his chest through the black fabric.  “I— I’m not sure how to—” he mumbled.
“Me either,” you smiled, “just kiss me, Bucky…”
He did, though he seemed slightly less confident about it.  What started as a shy and soft kiss turned into something more almost instantly— something hungry.  He pulled you closer by your waist, he slipped his tongue into your mouth; it was clear, somehow, that he had been waiting for this chance for longer than you realized.
You gasped into Bucky’s kiss when you felt Zemo’s lips on your neck.  There were four hands on you, running over your body, and you were struggling to keep track of which belonged to who…
Zemo pulled you off of Bucky and spun you around, kissing you roughly again.  He was less careful this time, and he was reaching up under your shirt as well; you whimpered a bit, arching your back instinctively and pushing your ass into Bucky’s— oh fuck, he was hard.  You couldn’t believe how worked up you were already.
Zemo groped at your chest, purring as he tweaked a nipple between his fingers.  You whined and pressed your legs together, feeling him smile before he broke away to look at you with a sparkle in his eye.
“So sensitive,” he praised as he pushed your shirt up to get a good look at you; he sighed at the sight, both hands cupping your breasts and massaging them carefully.  “You’re so beautiful…”
When his hands moved down, Bucky’s took their place; you shivered a little at the metal hand’s cool touch, but it was actually more of a relief than anything considering how hot you’d become.  He was a little more aggressive with the way he touched your tits— if not quite rough.  He was panting in your ear as he held and rubbed them; and Zemo was already pulling your pajama shorts down, exposing you even further… god, why did it turn you on so much.
“Look at you,” Zemo praised with a sigh, running his hands up and down your body.  “I know you must be so wet already, darling, look how desperate you are… you’ve been wet since you woke up from that naughty dream, haven’t you?”
You didn’t have to answer— he was already putting his hand between your legs, exploring your folds, both of you groaning at how slick and sticky you were.  “Fuck, I can hear it,” Bucky noticed, and you clenched inside as he said it.
Zemo gently pushed a finger into you— but you were so wet it didn’t even feel like a push, it felt like your hole just sucked him in.  He was looking right into your eyes as he did it, but that was a little too much to handle for you, mentally, so you let your eyes fall shut just before he slipped the finger back out again.
"Feel inside her, James," Zemo encouraged, "she's so warm."
Bucky sighed, rubbing his fingers around your entrance. "I-I'm going to," he mumbled in your ear, "but... not 'cause he told me to or anything."
You whined when two vibranium fingers pushed inside you, making you lean back against Bucky while Zemo’s hands pushed your shirt up even higher, giving him better access to put his mouth on your tits.  “F-fuck,” you sighed, putting a hand on the back of Zemo’s head as he swirled his tongue around your nipple— he was incredibly, annoyingly good at that, but then again, so was Bucky with the way he gently opened you up with his fingers.  “Oh my god, just like that,” you panted.
“Who are you talking to?” Bucky wondered.
“Both of you,” you whined, “fuck, don’t stop.”
Zemo moved his mouth to your other nipple, suckling harder at it, making your hips rock on Bucky’s fingers; and Bucky growled approvingly, starting to thrust them a little more confidently inside you.  “I can’t believe you didn’t soak through those shorts, doll,” Bucky whispered in your ear, “you’re drenched.  You wanted this that bad?”
You could only nod dreamily, too lost in the feeling.
Though you weren’t sure how they coordinated it, they both stopped touching you at the same time; you whined quietly, clenching inside as you longed for either of their fingers to fill you again.
“Take the rest of it off,” Zemo instructed you— but it wasn’t too firm, more just a… friendly suggestion.  “Let us see all of you.”
Stepping out of your shorts that had fallen to the floor and pulling your shirt up over your head, you tried to fight the urge to cover yourself— after all, here you were naked in Zemo’s living room, with two fully clothed men eyeing you up and down.  It was hard not to feel… scrutinized.
"What happens next in your fantasy?" Zemo purred.
"I-it's not my fantasy, it was just a dream," you insisted.
"Then let me ask you another way: what happens now?"
Instead of answering with words, you simply sank down to your knees in front of them, keeping eye contact with Zemo as you started to open his belt.
The smug look on his face should’ve driven you crazy, but it only pushed you further; Bucky, thankfully, seemed to get the idea of what was going on and began to open his belt and jeans for you.  You loved his eagerness, even if the way Zemo seemed content to just let you do all the work was a turn-on, too.
Soon enough, there were two hard cocks in front of you.  Just the idea of that was already intimidating— but both of them, at eye-level, was actually nearly overwhelming.  You took hold of them both, stroking slowly to try to wrap your head around this as easily as you could wrap your hands around them.
Not sure where to start, you did a mental coin toss and found yourself leaning towards Zemo first, wrapping your mouth around his tip and letting your eyes fall shut.  Zemo hummed, pushing your hair back as you bobbed your head. You only sucked him for a few seconds before switching over to Bucky, though you tried to keep a hand stroking each one while you moved back and forth.
It felt filthy and strange and surreal, but your biggest concern was that you were going to get so wet you’d start dripping onto the floor or something.
Yes, you’d watched porn like this before, but you never really thought you’d end up doing it— especially with these two.  You felt pretty comfortable assuming they never thought this would happen, either… but they got into it shockingly quickly: soon, you weren’t even the one deciding where you went, they simply got more and more impatient and began to guide you back and forth.  You blinked your eyes open a few times to look up at them, but in the end you found yourself totally lost in it, just leaving your mouth open them and letting them take turns fucking it until you weren’t sure who was who anymore.
Not much was said (least of all by you, with your mouth full) aside from a few mumbled curses here and there— except for one moment, where Zemo seemed to mutter to Bucky: “I don’t think she expected to like this so much.”
Well, he wasn’t wrong.  You were drooling, with tears striping your face— a side effect from repeatedly choking on both of them— and you were nearly desperate enough to rub yourself
Though you weren’t sure how or when Zemo had gotten in your head like this, you had to admit it was convenient right now; “You want more, don’t you?” he noticed, and all you had to do was nod before they pulled you up to your feet.  Zemo bent you over quickly, before you’d even really found your balance, and stood behind you.
You gasped as Zemo’s cock slid inside you suddenly, holding on tight to Bucky’s arms for balance— immediately you were rocked forward with hard, needy thrusts.
“God, she’s so fucking wet,” Zemo hissed.  You hadn’t really heard him talk quite like that before…
You groaned at the feeling, amazed at how easily he fit inside, but clearly all the anticipation had prepared you well.  Bucky only let you have a second to adjust before he shoved your head back down and pushed his cock into your waiting mouth.  You were happy to oblige, though, and sucked him even more eagerly than before with fast bobs of your head and more pressure from your tongue.
Bucky’s fingers tangled into your hair, and his hips pushed forward to fuck deeper into your throat; you heard him groan, but it was muffled as he bit his lip.  You gagged, and they both moaned lowly.  “I can feel when you choke on him,” Zemo informed you with a grunt, “your little cunt squeezes me tighter.”
It must have been Zemo’s hand that slid up your spine and held onto your shoulder— it must have been Bucky that reached down to feel your tits— but if was your hand that ended up between your legs, rubbing your clit quickly simply because you couldn’t hold yourself back anymore.
“So desperate,” Zemo mocked— or praised, maybe?  The difference was hard to define.  “You want to come?”
You hummed in agreement around Bucky’s cock, before he forced you to choke on it again.  You never expected him to be so aggressive, nor how much it would make you crave even more.
“If you want a turn with her, James, you’d better take it now,” Zemo offered, voice thin as he tried to catch his breath.  “Any more of that and I won’t be able to stop myself again.”
Bucky roughly pulled you off of Zemo and sat back on the couch, turning you around to face away from him and pulling you into his own lap; that doll nickname felt a bit more literal when he tossed you around so easily.
You gasped as Bucky slid inside, and moaned as you realized you could so easily feel the difference between them.  “Fuck!” you cried out loudly, louder than you really meant to, as Bucky instantly began bouncing you on top of him; you were trying to move with him, but he was so much stronger and basically just using you however he wanted… it made you moan even more and roll your eyes back in your head as you realized that.  “Fuck, Bucky, oh my god—”
“See how much louder she screams for me?” Bucky grinned.
“That’s because her mouth isn’t full this time,” Zemo countered with a laugh.  “That can be corrected.”
Bucky was certainly much more… impatient in the way he fucked you; Zemo, meanwhile, was as controlled as ever as he guided you to lean forward, gently opened your mouth, and slid just his leaking head inside.  He purred as you suckled at the tip, looking up at him with watering eyes.
“Can you taste yourself?” Zemo asked you with a smile, humming when you nodded around him.  “You really soaked me, darling— I expect you to be a good girl and clean all that off.”
You moaned at the praise and took him deeper into your mouth, using your tongue to lick up every drop of your own wetness off of him.  You surprised even yourself with how shameless you were, pulling your mouth off to run your tongue over him instead, moaning as you licked him clean.
Bucky fucked up faster into you until you could barely focus on the task before you, but you still found a way: you kept Zemo’s cock in your mouth and let him hold your head, keeping you steady while Bucky moaned louder and thrusted harder.
You moaned more and more around Zemo until he pulled you away and you gasped instantly.  “Tell me how it feels,” he demanded harshly, holding your head up by your hair.
“So good,” you yelped, “it’s so fucking good!”
He surprised you with a slap across the face, but you moaned right away.  “Fucking whore,” he spat.  “Look how badly you need to be treated.  You want to come, don’t you?”
“Yes,” you sobbed, “yes, fuck, please—”
“Well, James,” Zemo hissed, “aren’t you going to help her?”
Bucky sighed and moved one of the hands on your hips down between your legs, rubbing you quickly and harshly.  Your thighs were shaking instantly; actually, pretty much all of you was shaking.
“She’s coming, James, don’t stop,” Zemo barked out another order, holding you tight by the jaw and looking right into your eyes.  “I want you to come until you can’t possibly take it anymore,” he explained with a growl, “don’t tell me to make him stop until then, is that clear?  Show us how much you can take, nothing less.”
You nodded as best you could with him holding onto your face, and tried to lean in to put your mouth on his cock again, but he held you there.
“No,” he corrected, “I’d rather get a good look at this.”
Bucky’s hand on your clit was relentless, the pressure almost too intense for you to take— but you had to take it, you had no other choice.  It started off almost slowly, a gradual descent into the numbing pleasure of your orgasm, but it didn’t stop; Zemo already made it clear he wasn’t going to let it stop until you were at your limit.  Your moans were shaky and broken from how hard Bucky was fucking you, and your eyes were rolling back already but you could’ve sworn you heard Zemo chuckle at the sight of you.  Did you really look that fucked up?
“Good girl,” he purred, “keep going.  You can take more.”
You whined louder, higher, sharper; you weren’t sure how much more you really could take of this, but you wanted to do as you’d been told and not tap out until the absolute last second.
You knew you were crying, only because you felt the hot tears running down your cheeks.  You heard Zemo encouraging you distantly, but you couldn’t quite make out any words, just the dark and sweet tone of his voice.  You heard Bucky, too, groaning deeply while you felt his fingers digging tighter into your hips.  Could he feel everything he was putting your body through?
“Fuck, stop!” you heard yourself blurt out, and instantly Bucky’s hand moved away— but his thrusts didn’t slow down.  It was just the right amount of relief, and you blinked the blurriness out of your vision.  It was almost like part of it didn’t even really hit you until then, until the aftershocks reverberated through your body.
“That’s it,” Zemo praised, “you’re alright, we’ve got you.”
“Oh god, o-oh god,” you sobbed, shaking uncontrollably— they were both holding you up, you would’ve toppled to the floor if it weren’t for them
“Fuck, m’gonna come,” Bucky groaned.
“Inside,” you gasped, even with how little mental clarity you had in that moment.  “I want it inside.”
“Fuck,” he said again.  “That’s so— god, baby, look what you fuckin’ do to me… I’m gonna come inside you.”
“Yes,” you begged with a sob, Zemo grinning as he watched you.
Still numb and clenching uncontrollably inside, you felt the way he pumped harder and harder and harder— until it slowed down and he let out the most delicious, long groan.  You whined, but smiled, as he loosened his grip on your hips and relaxed under you, his moans and heavy breaths seeming to drip with satisfaction.  “Fuck,” he said, one more time, deeper than ever, before falling back on the couch limply.
Zemo lifted you off of Bucky— apparently a little sooner than he was ready for, because you heard him hiss as he slipped out of you— and guided you with him onto the couch, pulling your back into his chest.  He knelt behind you, kissing the back of your shoulder as watched you try to come back to reality.
“I should let you rest for a moment,” he noticed, “but you don’t want me to, do you?”
Weakly, you shook your head.
He moved in closer to you and you felt his cock, still wet with your spit, rub against the inside of your thigh— and even after all that, you arched your back deeper in invitation.
It made you blush when Zemo slid into you again, thinking about him filling you alongside Bucky’s load, especially with the way he groaned lowly into your ear.  “You want me to fuck his come even deeper into you?” he taunted, and you whined but nodded.  “I thought so.”
Everything felt so… sticky, in a disgusting but sexy sort of way; you were overly-sensitive inside, each thrust feeling so good with the fading sensitivity of your orgasm still present.  You leaned back against Zemo with a sigh, letting him hold you close and fuck you however he wanted, more than happy to just be his toy now.
“Look how cute you are when you give in to me.  You want me to use you, don’t you?” he noticed with a groan, and you whimpered but nodded ‘yes.’  “Of course,” he growled, kissing along your neck with more and more of his teeth each time.  “You want me to fuck you however I want?”
“Yes,” you sobbed.
“But this isn’t about what I want,” he explained.  “This is what you wanted.”
“Oh god…”
“You wanted us both to fuck you, at the same time.  One cock isn’t enough to satisfy you?”
“Not anymore,” you admitted with a sigh, and he started to thrust faster and harder into you.
It turned very quickly from slow and sensual to rough and ruthless; he wrapped a hand around your neck to keep you close as you moaned and cried, anxious already to come again.  “Touch yourself,” he ordered with a hiss in your ear, “make yourself come around my cock.”
“F-fuck,” you choked out, but slid a hand over your body and between your legs to obey him quickly.  You were already so fucking close, and you knew you shouldn’t go so hard on yourself when you were so sensitive, but your desperation made you really rub hard and fast in search of that growing tension.  “Yes, fuck, m’gonna— oh god—”
“I know, darling,” he cooed, “just let go.  It’s alright, I’ll hold you— come for me.”
You didn’t literally black out, but you did sort of… lose time, in that moment.  It was like you were just floating in pleasure for a while and then all of a sudden you were laying back on the couch and you weren’t even sure where Bucky had gone and Zemo was proudly holding your legs open.
“You look so beautiful like this,” he informed you, and you blinked back at him shyly.
You expected the warm, sticky feeling as their come leaked out of you… what you didn’t expect to feel was Zemo’s mouth on your pussy, eagerly lapping it up and sucking on your clit as your eyes shot open and you gasped and moaned with surprise.
“Dude,” Bucky grimaced, “that’s fucked up…”
Zemo just hummed and took his mouth off of you, giving Bucky a confused look.  “She tastes amazing,” Zemo defended, “maybe even better after our… contribution.”
You laughed a little at the description, until he leaned down and latched onto you again, making you gasp and run your fingers through his hair.  “Fuck,” you whined, bucking your hips against his face.  Your clit was already overstimulated, and the way that he flicked it with his tongue made you shiver all over.
Your hold on his hair made it a little easier to push him away when he sucked too hard on your sore clit; he was more than strong enough to keep going, but he stopped anyways and let you push him back with a smug, slickened smile.  “You really should try it, James,” he encouraged, “you’ll only want more once you do.”
Sighing in relent, Bucky knelt down in front of the couch— yes, at some point he’d gotten off of it, and you were too high on orgasm dopamine to notice it— and Zemo helped you adjust your hips towards him so he could just dive right in.
He gave one long lick over you first, making you shudder, and seemed to get more excited and aggressive quickly as he held onto your thighs and started to push his tongue inside you.  “Oh god,” you whimpered, and Zemo watched proudly for a moment before turning his head to kiss up your leg.
“Poor thing,” he cooed between gentle presses of his lips to your skin, “you probably thought we were done with you, didn’t you?”
~
You were on the couch nursing a cup of tea, your feet resting in Bucky’s lap on top of the pants he’d changed into after his shower; Zemo was on the balcony having a cigarette.  That was the scene Sam came back to, and he seemed to notice something was off just by the way he raised an eyebrow as he entered the living room.  “Hey guys,” he greeted.  “What did I miss?”
“Not much,” Bucky shrugged, “just a pretty quiet morning…”

Barista Jay??? That one en o clock ep where they make coffee and snacks, Jay looks so good like, (he makes me combust I tell you)
Imagine where:
you're co-workers and everytime he makes coffee or expresso your eyes just goes wherever he is and stare at him while you stand there, supposed to clean the mugs, and quickly look away when he spots you looking at him, and you think that he thinks you're a creep for looking at him while thinking about how his hands just look good on you're neck and how his fingers look so thick that it fills you up with just 2 fingers. Mean while Jay has a composed face but on the inside is freaking out cuz he saw you staring at him with a face that gets him to think abt how your face is when you're abt to cum with his cock inside you, bulging against your stomach, and whoops! He got hard in the middle of his shift, so he excuses himself to take an early break but in reality he goes to the storage room and starts jerking off, and you catch him while he's moaning your name
I hope you're doing okay take your time to finish this or don't if you don't want to (also can I be anon 🎀 or if its taken 🩰 anon)
Tumblr media
a/n: this specific episode was my undoing
2 mutually pervert co-workers what's crazier than that? you beg your manager to have the same shift as him with very unreasonable excuses yo don't care if you sound unprofessional you need to be close to him. you can't deny that you actually thirst over him. his slicked back hair with one strand hanging in front of his forehead, sleeves folded up to elbow exposing his strong and pretty forearms and the way he's so eloquent and pleasant to customers which actually increases the profit of your coffee shop, there's no way you're not catching feelings or that dick.
he's always helping you around by doing the dishes, cleaning the tables and communicate with some karens that cools down when he talks to them. each morning he got there first and already made you some warm macchiato that never fails to make you moan from how good it is. you know that sound gets his poor cock to chub up in no time.
it's very clear to him that you want him. he saw the lewd face you make while you watch him clean the mugs, holding the heavy trays of utensils. the lines of his muscles the buffing of his bicep cloud your eyes with lust. your pussy tingles thinking about him getting off using the same hand while calling out your name.
jay had to leave the shift for a bit leaving you with other workers. 20 minutes passed he still hasn't returned. you're getting antsy because it's getting more crowded over time. you need a helping hand. you sought out to him in the toilet but he's not there. maybe he got sick and left. but your guess was wrong when you passed by the storage room and heard some grunts and muffled whimpers. it was jay's voice. is he in pain? you thought to yourself.
you immediately twist the knob to see him biting into his shirt to avoid getting them dirty and muffled his pretty voice from calling out your name. you dropped your view below and there's nothing prettier than his wet dick getting jerked by his ring-clad fingers hands. it's so wet and making fapping sounds louder than his voice. the precum keeps dripping and messing up the floor. the embarrassment of getting caught by you makes it worse. y/nie i-it's your fault.
your fault? well there's only one way to ask for forgiveness. you got on your knees, removed his hands letting his cock hit his stomach and put his hand in your ponytail. forgive me jay, please. you kissed the base of his cock making him hissed a curse. you've been fucking naughty y/n. i saw your needy face when im doing my work. always disturbing me. maybe i should fuck your mouth? so you know you should behave at work? you looked up and nod at him. yes jay need you to put me in my place. please fuck my mouth.
you dropped your jaw open and let your tongue out making space for his wide tip. it's so red and swollen and it made you feel so bad for putting him in pain. the first salty taste got on your tongue and you immediately moaned sending vibrations down his spine. he pushed a bit deeper and you felt him throb already he's definitely close already from the jerking. the second thrust gagged you when he went past your throat. fuckkk 2 more times im gonna pull out baby. your heart dropped you wanted to help him, you wanted to swallow his cum so you swallow his dick 3 more times and you held on his waist until your nose touched his abs so he couldn't pull out.
warm cum spurted out from his cute angry tip and immediately swallowed. he came so much you had to hold your breath for almost a minute. you pulled off from him to see a thick mix of saliva and cum string from your tongue and his tip. you did so good-mmph. he got down on his knees and kissed you deeply tasting you and him in your tongue. thank you so much baby, after our shift ends i'll take you home and you can scream my name as loud as you want.

Tumblr media
If no one had told you someone was moving into the apartment across the hall from you, you probably would have gone months without noticing anyone in there. You weren’t sure if your schedules were just not in sync or maybe he never really left his place. Regardless, it took at least two months before you met your new neighbour.
When you did, it was a coincidence. You were leaving and he was coming back home.
You both paused and stared at each other for a moment before rushing to introduce yourselves, only to accidentally talk over each other.
After you both stopped, he motioned for you to go first. You gave him your name and made a stupid comment about how you hadn’t met until now. Maybe it wasn’t stupid because he laughed, or maybe he was just being nice.
“I’m James,” he said. “And about not seeing me, well it probably doesn’t help that I leave at the crack of dawn and usually come back late.”
“Oh, let me guess, doctor?” you asked and he nodded. “It was either that or day-shift stripper so I figured my odds were pretty good.”
That made him laugh again and you smiled.
“I hope you rest well before your next shift. Unfortunately, I have to head out. Duty calls.”
“I’ll see you around,” he gave you a small three-fingered wave which you returned before jogging down the stairs.
You didn’t think you’d have much reason to see him again, but accidents do happen.
You knew sometimes you’d have the tendency to be a bit clumsy, but this was beyond that. Dropping your knife down next to the half cut vegetables, you looked around for something to wrap your hand in to stop the bleeding.
You thought about your options, you could call an ambulance and pay the ridiculous fee, you could drive yourself to the ER and risk getting into an accident, or you could knock on your neighbour’s door and hope he was home.
You sprung for option three, seeing as it was most immediate.
Opening your door, barely even bothering to close it behind you, you knocked on James’ door, praying that he was home and would be able to help.
It seemed as though your prayers were answered because you heard the lock click and the door open to a very confused looking James.
“I am so sorry to bother you,” you started, “but I was making dinner and the knife slipped-,”
“You cut yourself,” he filled in the blanks himself and you nodded, biting down on your tongue from the pain. “Come in, let me see if I can get you sorted.”
He opened his door wider and you stepped into his apartment, an identical layout to yours, but differing in decor and furniture.
He pulled back a chair at his small dining table for you to sit at and went to another room to grab something.
He came back with a first aid kit and sat down in the chair next to you, opening the kit and grabbing a few things he knew he would need before pulling back the towel you had wrapped your hand in and examining the cut.
“Wow, this is really deep,” he remarked. “You must be in a lot of pain.”
“Yeah, trying really hard not to pay attention to it right now,” you nodded through gritted teeth.
“Look, I don’t have a lot of stuff with me, but I think this lidocaine numbing spray should help a bit, but it will sting first,” he warned you and you nodded.
He used the spray and you winced, but just as he said the pain slowly dissipated and soon all you could feel was a dull ache. He started by cleaning the wound and flushing it with some water and alcohol.
“So what were you cooking?” he asked.
“Trying to make just some chicken and potatoes, but of course my hand and the knife decide to slip at the same time,” you sighed.
He pulled out a needle and some surgical thread next, determining what the best way to stitch you up was.
“Do this often?” you asked.
“Unfortunately for you, no I don’t,” he shook his head. “I work in oncology so I have to think a little harder about my stitching.”
“As long as it’s free, take all the time you need,” you joked.
“Oh, no one told you, my rate is 500$ a minute, I take cash or cheque,” he teased right back and you chuckled a bit.
“How about I do you a favour when you need it and we call it even?” you asked and he nodded his head.
“Seems equivalent. Alright, you’re gonna feel a light pinch,” he said and saw your face contort in discomfort and he quickly apologized.
He tried to do the stitching as quickly as possible, and then covered it up with gauze and tape to make sure the stitches were protected.
“You should probably come by again tomorrow so I can take a look and make sure everything’s okay and it isn’t infected,” he said. “I should be back around six.”
“Sure, thanks again for this. It’s handy having a doctor next door,” you smiled. “Now I should probably go and clean all the blood off my counters and order something to eat.”
“Hey, why don’t you just have a plate of food here before you go back?” James suggested. “I made extra.”
“You sure? You already stitched me up and now you want me to eat your food?”
“It’ll be nice company,” he assured you. “Unless you have someone you need to get back to.”
“No, it’s just me right now,” you nodded. “I’ll stay, the blood can wait.”
James served you a plate of the food he had made before grabbing his half-eaten dinner and joining you again at the dining room table.
“So, um, you know what I do for work first hand now,” James started. “What about yourself?”
“I like to say I’m a constant student of the world’s universal language,” you smiled to yourself, “but people don’t really know what I mean by that so usually stick to saying I’m a professor of mathematics.”
“Wow,” James looked impressed. “You don’t really look like a math professor. All of mine were a little…crazy. I never would have guessed.”
“Unfortunately not everyone can have Einstein’s hair,” you joked and James laughed.
“Do you teach at Princeton then?” he asked and you nodded. “What a coincidence. I work at the teaching hospital.”
“Oh, you must know Lisa then,” you grinned. “She’s a good friend of mine.”
James nodded, “Such a small world.”
“You’re telling me.”
You continued to eat dinner and chat about various things, most pertaining to the school or your mutual connection through Lisa. By the end of the evening, when you wished him a good night and went back over to your apartment, a part of you was happy your hand would give you an excuse to see your neighbour once more.
James stared blankly at his fridge wondering how he’d managed to go this long without buying any groceries. He could just eat out and put off shopping for another day, but he had time off and he probably should take advantage of it.
Without much more thought, he grabbed his house key and his coat, deciding to go to the grocery store just down the street, it would be a nice walk in the afternoon sun. When he opened his door, he saw you standing outside with a few empty grocery bags in hand.
“You heading down to the store?” he asked and you nodded with a smile.
“You too?”
“I don’t have the hardware,” he pointed to your bags. “But the fridge is empty, so yeah, I figured it was about time to do a grocery run. How’s your hand doing?”
“A lot better than last week. Thanks for asking,” you looked down at your bandaged palm. “Excited to be able to take this off.”
Just as James was about to say goodbye and wish you a good rest of your afternoon, your door opened and a young girl stepped out.
“Mom, I can’t do up my zipper, it keeps getting stuck,” she grumbled.
“Here, let me give you a hand with that,” you bent down and put the grocery bags to the side, helping her out with the finicky zipper. “Maybe we need to get you a new jacket, this one’s starting to get a bit tight, huh?”
The girl nodded and thanked you for your help by giving you a kiss on the cheek.
“Mom, who’s that?” she pointed to James and you chuckled a little.
“I was just about to introduce you two,” you said. “Nadia, this is James, James this is Nadia. My daughter.”
“Nice to meet you, Nadia,” James waved and she waved back.
“Are you friends with my mom?” she asked.
“I-I think so,” James nodded.
“Yeah, we’re friends,” you agreed.
“If he’s your friend can he come over for dinner tonight?” Nadia asked.
You looked in between your daughter and James once a few times before saying,
“You know, I think it’s his day off, I’m not too sure if he had plans already.”
James shoved his hand in his pockets and asked,
“And what if I don’t have plans?”
You bit back a small smile, “Then I would say, do you want to come get groceries and have dinner with us tonight?”
“I’d love to.”
“Nice,” Nadia grinned. “That means we get dessert.”
You scoffed and looked down at your daughter, “Is that what this was all about?”
“I don’t know,” she shrugged her shoulders innocently and you shook your head, locking the door behind you and beginning to walk down the stairs, Nadia leading the way and James at your side.
“You never mentioned you had a daughter,” James said quietly while you walked down the sidewalk, Nadia running ahead to press the button for the crosswalk.
“Never came up,” you shrugged. “She was with her dad both times you saw me before.”
“She’s cute,” James said simply. “Looks a lot like her mom.”
“Thanks,” you smiled, trying to ignore the warm feeling rising up in your cheeks.
You watched as Nadia came running back up to you both and tapped James on the arm.
“Do you like apple crumble and ice cream?” she asked.
“I do,” James nodded. “I used to make it with my mom when I was around your age.”
“My mom makes it with me too,” Nadia grinned. “Can we have that for dessert tonight?”
“Sure, if they have the granny smith apples, if not maybe we can make a peach cobbler instead,” you suggested and Nadia agreed, taking your hand and dragging you towards the store so you could get the ingredients faster.
You and James did your shopping in parallel and would both send Nadia on small quests to retrieve some things you needed to keep her busy.
“You’re pretty good with kids,” you commented after he had told Nadia about her next ‘top secret mission’.
“Comes a bit with the job,” he said, sifting through the peppers on the produce stand to find a few good ones. “It’s nice to be reminded every once in a while that not all kids are going through treatment.”
“I don’t know how you’d be able to see that every day,” you shook your head and sighed. “I would be a wreck if Nadia was in the hospital.”
“Well, let’s hope that never happens.”
“James! I got the berries!” Nadia came speeding back and handed him the basket of strawberries before taking a moment to catch her breath.
“Wow, that was fast,” he grinned. “Come on, I think it’s about time we go pay for all this stuff.”
You weren’t sure whether it was slight of hand or if James had an in with the cashier, but he managed to pay for the groceries, insisting it was just paying for dinner, so to even it out you slipped 50$ to the cashier to pay for his things.
“It’s not really letting me pay for dinner if you just pay for my stuff too,” he teased you as you walked home.
“If you’re really that set on paying me back you can come help me and Nadia cook. Maybe make sure I don’t cut my hand again,” you waved your bandaged hand in the air.
“Alright,” he conceded. “I’ll be over as soon as I drop these off.”
When you got home, you and Nadia quickly cleared up a few of her toys from the living room and a few minutes later, as expected, James’ knock echoed through the apartment. Nadia beat you to the door and grabbed James’ hand, bringing him to the kitchen and shutting the door behind them.
“Since you know how to make the crumble you can wash and peel the apples,” Nadia instructed.
“Is this okay with mom?” James asked.
“I’ve tried your cooking before, it’s okay with me,” you nodded. “Nadia, hon, do you want to help with the salad? Like I taught you?”
She nodded her head and went to wash her hands quickly before standing up on a stool so she could reach the counter and cut the vegetables.
“Be very careful with the knife, okay? Don’t make the same mistake mom did otherwise James is gonna start asking for our medical insurance,” you teased and Nadia gave you the classic,
“I know, I know. I’ve done this like a million times.”
“Well, let’s make it a million and one without accidents,” James added and you mouthed a thank you to him.
Nadia was chopping away and bossing all of you around like she was head chef at a restaurant, all the while interrogating James about his work at the hospital and how he ended up in the apartment across the hall.
“Where did you live before?” she asked.
“Uh, kind of close to where your mom works,” he said. “In a house with a nice apple tree in the front yard.”
“So why did you move to an apartment then?”
James chuckled. “Good question. I um, I used to be married, but I’m not anymore so I decided to move somewhere different.”
“Like mom and dad,” Nadia nodded her head in understanding.
“Yeah, a bit like your mom and dad, I guess,” he agreed. “Do you like it in this building?”
“Yeah,” Nadia nodded. “And mom cooks better than dad, but don’t tell him that.”
“It’ll be our little secret,” James winked and finished mixing the apples with cinnamon, sugar, and a few other spices and ingredients.
Dinner was ready within the next hour and dessert followed soon after, much to Nadia’s excitement.
“Okay, moment of truth,” James sucked some air through his teeth as he served Nadia a plate with some ice cream on the side.
She dug into it and put on her best thinking face before giving a big thumbs up and a smile.
“Phew,” James sat back down in his seat and Nadia giggled at his exaggeration. He finished serving you and himself before putting the ice cream back in your freezer so it wouldn’t melt.
“So, did you enjoy your day off?” you asked.
“More than I was expecting to,” he nodded. “Thank you guys for having me over.”
“Maybe you can come again next time I’m back with mom?” Nadia suggested. “Can we have dinner with James?”
“I mean, if he wants to I have no objection,” you agreed with her.
“I’ll mark it in my calendar.”
Nadia quietly celebrated and said something about having dessert every time and you gave her a warning look that only encouraged her to continue to be cheeky.
Dessert was followed by a sugar rush, and crash and while Nadia snored on the couch you were saying goodbye to James and thanking him for spending the day.
“She really likes you,” you looked over at your sleeping daughter on the couch.
“Feeling’s mutual,” he smiled softly.
“You know, if you ever want company or a friend, my door’s always open,” you told him. “Even if it’s just someone to sit in silence with you at the end of a long day.”
“Thanks, I appreciate it.”
“And I’m sorry about your divorce,” you said. “If I can say one thing it’s just that it gets better. Eventually.”
He nodded his head and gave you a sad smile.
“Helps when you have a friend who understands,” he patted your arm and wished you goodnight walking across the hall and disappearing behind the door.
The couch was your favourite place to grade assignments and midterms. Final exams needed something a little more substantial considering how long they’d take when you didn’t have a teaching assistant helping you.
You didn’t know how many cups of coffee you’d gone through when you heard the knock on your door.
“It’s James,” you heard through the other side. “A little birdy told me you were stuck grading all day.”
“Come in,” you called back and he opened the unlocked door and slipped inside, coming to join you on the couch.
“I brought you a pick me up but I see that may send you into cardiac arrest,” he looked over at your many mugs littering the table.
“I have a weird thing about making coffee in the same cup,” you shook your head. “And I will take that,” you grabbed the to-go mug out of his hands, taking a sip of the piping hot drink. “God, sometimes when I’m writing these tests I forget I have to grade them too.”
James chuckled and looked over at the papers laid out on the coffee table.
“Why don’t you take a short break. No one expects you to get all the exams back the day after midterms,” he said.
“Yeah, but my TA expects me to grade all the long proofs so that they can do their part and grade the short answer stuff,” you sighed. “But you’re right I should take a break before I start taking marks off for using a weird letter as a variable, or something more complicated than that, I don’t know I can barely think straight anymore.”
James took the coffee and midterm out of your hands, putting them on the table, letting you lean back further into the couch and close your eyes for two seconds.
“Is Nadia with her dad?” he asked.
“Yeah, visiting her grandparents,” you nodded. “I hope they don’t fill her head with too much nonsense.”
James looked at you a little confused so you explained further, “They hated me, don’t know why. Maybe because they expected Mike to have a stay at home wife, but after we graduated I wanted more.”
“So you went to get your master’s and doctorate,” James filled in and you nodded.
“They thought I was trying to make their son look stupid, but they grossly overestimated my motives,” you chuckled humourlessly. “I’m just really nerdy and like math. I wanted to learn more so I did.”
“And what did your ex think?” he asked.
“Mike…he’s an interesting guy,” you shrugged. “I don’t think he’s a bad person, he was just a bad husband for me. He’s a decent dad, he’s there for Nadia, but he wasn’t there for me when I needed him to be.” you shared. “What about you? What went wrong there?”
“The first time or the second?” he asked with a sigh, crossing his arms over his chest.
“No kids I’m guessing,” you said and he shook his head.
“First time, I was working two jobs to keep us afloat while she was at an unpaid internship. We both had terrible communication skills, and shouldn't have been married in the first place. The second time, I think I screwed that one up.”
He ran a hand through his hair before letting both his hands rest in his lap.
“Marriage is hard as hell,” you sighed. “I mean I wasn’t much of a picnic for Mike either.”
“You don’t have to try and make me feel better,” he assured you. “Although I appreciate the sentiment.”
“I’m serious. A marriage goes two ways and yeah sure, one person can screw up bigger than the other, but it’s not that one person is perfect and the other isn’t,” you said.
James pursed his lips and leaned forward, his arms resting against his legs. He wished it was that simple.
“Okay, my goal was not to bring down the mood,” James finally said. “This was supposed to be a fun work break.”
“I hate to tell you you’re failing miserably at the fun part,” you teased.
“Alright, then tell me why you decided to study math, of all the things you could have learnt about, why did math speak to you the most?”
“Katherine Johnson,” you said and yawned, rubbing your eyes. “I read about her in some random book in the library and I realized that numbers are what make everything in the world work. If she could send a rocket ship to space using math, then she had a superpower and I wanted a taste of it.”
“Did you get a taste of it?”
“Did my master’s degree research while jointly working with NASA, so yeah, I did,” you nodded with a smile. “And unfortunately, I have to use that superpower to finish grading these. You can stay if you want, I don’t mind.”
James looked at his watch and sighed,
“I have a meeting scheduled with the hospital board tomorrow morning. I should probably go get some sleep. Don’t stay up too late, okay?”
You patted his leg and assured him you’d be in bed within the next few hours whether you liked it or not. Your body probably wouldn’t let you stay up any longer.
James gave your hand a gentle squeeze and said goodnight, showing himself out.
The sound of the phone ringing echoed through the house and you called for Nadia to pick it up, busy washing dishes. When she didn’t respond, you sighed to yourself and quickly turned off the water, wiping your hands and going to pick the phone up yourself.
“Hello?”
“Hey, it’s James.”
“James, what’s up? Aren’t you still at work?” you asked, looking over at the clock.
“That’s actually what I’m calling about, I don’t think I’m going to be able to make dinner this week,” he said. “Something’s come up and I’m going to be here late.”
“Oh that’s too bad. We’ll just have to reschedule,” you assured him.
“Can you put Nadia on the line? I wanted to apologize to her myself.”
“Sure,” you chuckled and called Nadia again. She came out of her room, rubbing her eyes and you told her James was on the phone asking for her. She took the phone from you and said hello, talking to James for a short while. You could see she was disappointed that he wouldn’t be able to make it, but you heard him promise to make it up to her with a movie night one weekend instead.
“Bye James,” she said and nodded her head in response to something he said before hanging up. “He says bye to you too.”
“Thanks honey,” you patted her back. “Are you feeling okay?” you asked. “You’re looking a little tired.”
“I feel tired,” she confirmed. “Can I go take a nap?”
“Sure,” you rubbed her back. “Do you want me to come and stay with you?”
“I’m okay right now,” she yawned.
You nodded your head and watched her make her way back to her bedroom. That evening you had a quiet dinner, deciding maybe to make soup in case Nadia was coming down with something. She didn’t have much of an appetite, only eating half of her bowl before beginning to cough, one of those deep chest coughs that made you feel a little worried.
You quickly got her changed in her pyjamas and had her sleep in your bed for the night so you could keep a close eye on her.
Your instincts that something was wrong ended up being right, as Nadia woke up with a continuing cough in the middle of the night and she felt hot to the touch.
“Nadia, honey are you going to be okay here for two minutes? I’m gonna go see if I can get some help,” you said and she nodded her head while continuing to cough.
Quickly, you ran over to James’ place and knocked on the door, an arm wrapped around your stomach while you chewed on your fingernails.
James opened the door wearing a college t-shirt and sweatpants, immediately taking in your concerned features and asking what was wrong.
“Nadia got sick and I think she’s getting worse,” you bit your tongue. “I’m so sorry to wake you up, but could you come check on her for me?”
“Of course,” James nodded, placing a hand on your back as he stepped out of his apartment, closing the door behind him and walking back to yours.
You led him over to your room where Nadia was laying down and he took a seat next to her on the bed and placed his hand on her arm, letting her know he was there.
“James?” she coughed.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he gave her a soft smile. “I heard you weren’t feeling too good.”
She nodded her head.
“Is it okay if I do a quick check up to see what’s wrong?” he asked and she nodded again, letting him help her sit up.
He first touched her forehead with the back of his hand to feel her temperature and then placed his ear to her chest to listen to her breathing.
“Thanks, Nadia, you can lay back down now while I talk to your mom, okay? Try and stay on your side, it'll help with the cough.”
James motioned for you to follow him just outside of the room so he could tell you what he thought was going on.
“I think she’s caught some kind of bug that’s causing pneumonia,” he said. “Her breathing didn’t sound too great so I think it’s a safe bet to take her to the hospital, but I’d say you still have time to pack a bag with a few things and I can get Nadia ready and drive you guys.”
“James, you don’t have to do that,” you shook your head. “I already woke you up and-,”
“I insist,” he said. “You walk with me into that ER and I’m allowed to boss around the nurses and call the best doctor in pediatrics.”
“Okay,” you nodded your head and took a shaky deep breath. “She’s gonna be okay, r-right?”
“They’ll give her an antiviral or antibiotic and keep her for a few nights to make sure it doesn’t get worse and before you know it she’ll be good as new.”
You chewed on your lip and went to go pack a bag with a few of your things and Nadia’s while James helped Nadia get out of bed and into some shoes and a warm jacket with a hat so the cold air didn’t bite at her.
“Are you coming with us?” Nadia asked James after a string of coughs.
“Sure am,” he nodded. “I’m gonna drive and your mom’s gonna sit in the back with you.”
“Why do we have to go to the hospital?” she asked.
“Well, sometimes when we get sick at night that’s the fastest way to see a doctor and get the right medicine to get better,” James explained, opening his arms up for Nadia to climb into them to he could carry her to the car just as you had come out with a packed duffle bag.
“We can take your car,” you said. “I’ll find my way back tomorrow to get mine.”
James nodded his head and quickly went into his place to grab his keys and lock the door behind him.
He drove as fast as he could while still being within the speed limit, keeping an eye on his rearview mirror, seeing Nadia huddled up into your side.
“Mom, my chest hurts,” Nadia blinked back a few tears.
“Hold on, hon, we’re almost there,” you squeezed onto her a little tighter.
James pulled into the ER parking lot and grabbed Nadia while you got your things, walking into the hospital together.
“Dr. Wilson, what are you doing here?” one of the nurses asked, confused.
“I’ve got a young girl, seven-years-old with pneumonia symptoms, we should get her on oxygen, do a test for bacterial and viral infections, and get a chest x-ray as soon as possible. And call Dr. Herberts, tell her I’m calling in my favour,” he instructed while placing Nadia down on one of the beds. “Nadia, this is my friend Alice,” he motioned to one of the nurses, “She’s gonna be with you while we figure out what’s going on.”
“What about you?” she asked while James grabbed the oxygen mask from one of the nurses.
“Your mom and I need to deal with a few other things before we can come be with you, but I promise Alice is going to take really good care of you. She’s really nice.”
“Promise you’ll come?” she asked and James stuck out his pinky for her to link with her own.
“Swear it,” he nodded. “Now can you put this on for me?” he asked, showing her the oxygen mask. “It’s going to help you breathe.”
She nodded her head and let James slip the mask over her head before the nurses wheeled her off to get the tests done.
James turned around and saw you finishing giving your information to one of the attendants and she was about to inform you where to go wait, but James motioned that he had it covered and she nodded.
Your exhaustion and worry had become all muddled together and you couldn’t hold back your tears anymore, covering your mouth with your hand while James came and wrapped you in his arms.
“She’s gonna be okay,” he assured you. “You did the right thing.”
You nodded your head and reciprocated the hug, burying your face in his shoulder to hide your tears from the onlookers.
After a few more moments, you pulled away and James quickly helped you wipe away your tears with the heel of his palm before wrapping his arm around you and leading you to radiology where Nadia would be getting her chest x-ray done.
He sat with you in the waiting room chairs until they brought Nadia out and told you that you could follow them to her room in the pediatrics ward.
By the time you got there and were settled with Nadia, James looked at the clock and noticed his shift would be starting in around an hour.
“You didn’t have to stay,” you said, quietly, gently brushing your fingers against Nadia’s cheek.
“Of course I did,” James smiled. “I pinky promised.”
Nadia looked up at you and nodded, making you chuckle.
“Nadi, can James go home so he can get ready for work?” you asked.
“I’ll come back and see you later after you’ve rested,” he assured her, “But nobody's gonna believe I’m a doctor dressed in these PJs.”
Nadia giggled, “You can go. Mom says you work here so you have to come back.”
“Bingo,” James snapped and gave her a thumbs up. “I’ll see you later sweetheart.”
He bent down and pressed a small kiss to her forehead, wishing her to get better before reaching for your hand and giving it a squeeze. His signal to you that everything would be okay.
You pressed your lips together, knowing you were on the verge of tears again, but begged them not to leave your eyes. Instead, you watched misty eyed as this man who you didn’t even know only months ago cared for you and your daughter without question. It was something you hadn’t felt in a long time and so you let yourself soak in it for as long as it lasted.
After James had left, you called your ex and explained to him what had happened and he came to join you and Nadia at the hospital. The morning passed without much eventfulness and the doctor and nurses came to periodically check on Nadia, adjusting her medication and seeing if her symptoms were changing.
You left her with her father so that you could grab a cup of coffee from the cafeteria, barely having gotten a wink of sleep last night. When you returned, you couldn’t see Mike in the room with her, assuming he’d just made a run to the washroom, but instead you saw James sitting on the side of her bed talking to her.
He was dressed in his white coat, his hair a little scruffy and messy like it normally was. It looked like he was playing some sort of game with her because you could hear laughter and teasing through the glass walls and you decided to give them a minute alone together.
“Who’s that?” you could hear Mike’s voice ask as he walked up next to you.
“Dr. Wilson,” you said absentmindedly, smiling to yourself while Nadia laughed at James’ defeat in a thumb war.
“Acting more like a candy-striper than a doctor,” Mike muttered.
You continued to watch as Nadia pointed to the IV in her hand and James examined it for a moment, explaining something to her before pressing a gentle kiss to the affected area and telling her that he unfortunately had to leave, but he’d come again later and see her. Nadia pulled him in for a hug and they exchanged cute kisses on the cheek. At least it was cute to you, but to Mike who had no idea what was going on they looked a little suspicious.
“What the hell is he doing with my daughter?” he asked you, pushing past to try and give him a piece of his mind.
“Mike, wait!” you ran up to him, but he wouldn’t stop. “Mike, would you stop and listen to me for a minute!”
He stopped and turned to look at you, “You have an explanation for this?”
“Yes, I do,” you scoffed. “He’s my neighbour. He drove Nadia and I here last night. Just lay off. He’s a friend.”
Mike didn’t seem entirely convinced, but he listened and as James came out of Nadia’s room he pushed past him to go be with his daughter.
You rolled your eyes at his actions while James came to stand with you.
“I take it that’s Mike,” he said and you nodded your head with a chuckle. “Nadia looks a lot better.”
“Yeah, doctor’s said they want to keep her under observation one or two more days just to make sure everything is all okay and then they’ll send us home with some antivirals since they don’t think it was caused by a bacterial infection,” you explained.
“And how are you?” he asked and you took a deep breath, prompting him to reach for your hand that was by your side.
“I’m tired, I’m worried, I have to deal with Mike, I just…” you shook your head. “I’m happy you’re here.”
He gave you a half smile and brushed his thumb across your knuckles.
“You need anything and you call my pager. I’ll be right over,” he insisted. “And if you need a moment alone you can sit on the couch in my office.”
“Thank you,” you said. “I’ll see you later.”
“Yeah, see you.”
His hand slipped out of yours as he walked away. You were just about to go back into the room with Nadia before you felt someone tap on your shoulder.
When you turned around you saw Lisa there with a small teddy bear in her hand from the gift shop.
“Hey,” you smiled and wrapped her in a hug.
“How’s Nadia? Wilson told me you had to bring her here last night.” she asked.
“She’s doing okay, a lot better than yesterday,” you shared with your friend.
“Will she be fine in there with Mike for a bit if I steal you?” she asked and you nodded your head. “Let me go in and say hi and give her this then we can walk.”
You went in with her and gave a kiss to Nadia whispering to her that you were going to go for a walk, but would be back soon.
“Mike,” Lisa gave him a curt nod which he returned before she turned her attention to Nadia, the expression on her face changing from one of neutrality to a smile while she handed her the gift and assured her she was gonna get better so fast and be out of the hospital in no time.
“I’m just gonna take your mom to make sure she gets something to eat so she can keep taking care of you. Does that sound good?” Lisa asked and Nadia agreed.
“James said you’d do that.”
“Oh, did he now,” Lisa placed her hands on her hips. “I’ll have to have a little chat with him later. You know I am his boss,” she winked and Nadia giggled.
You stepped out of the hospital room and once you were a bit of a distance away Lisa looked over to you.
“What was all that about right before I came?” she asked. “With Wilson?”
“James? Oh he was just checking in on me and Nadi,” you shook your head. “It was nothing.”
“Didn’t look like nothing,” Lisa raised her brows and you rolled your eyes.
“We’re not in high school. It was a rough night and he was there for it. That’s all.”
“And what did Mike think about that?” Lisa asked.
“He wasn’t impressed,” you sighed. “But he doesn’t really know how much time we’re spending together and he doesn’t need to because he’s not in charge of me.”
“He is half in charge of Nadia though,” Lisa said, making a fair point. “Just be open enough with him that it won’t be a headache when it comes to her.”
You nodded your head, and didn’t argue with Lisa when she offered to buy you something for breakfast.
“When was the last time you ate?” she asked.
“Last night, dinner,” you sighed, Lisa took the coffee out of your hands saying you shouldn’t be drinking the caffeine on an empty stomach and you chuckled a little at her motherly attitude.
You sat down at one of the tables and began to eat with her lightly chatting about a few things that had happened since you had last seen each other.
“You know, if anyone gives you trouble you can just call me,” she said.
“Is that an abuse of your power as Dean?” you asked, with a slight air of teasing in your voice.
“Not really,” she shrugged. “I’m just trying to make sure the patients here get the best care possible.”
“Especially when that patient is your unofficial niece,” you winked and she kicked you lightly under the table.
When you finished eating, Lisa walked you back to Nadia’s room before going to the clinic. Nadia was sleeping now and Mike was reading a magazine in the chair next to her bed.
“Thanks for staying with her,” you said. “I hadn’t eaten since last night.”
“No problem,” he said without looking up from the book.
You took a deep breath and sat down on the chair on the opposite side of Nadia’s bed, twiddling your thumbs.
“She talked a lot about Dr. Wilson,” he said, finally breaking the silence, putting the magazine off to the side.
“Yeah, she likes him a lot,” you nodded.
“Do you like him a lot?” he asked.
You shook your head at his question, “Mike does it matter what I feel? We’re not married anymore. I can understand your concern for Nadia, but I can tell you with certainty that he’s shown us nothing but kindness.”
Mike looked at you for a moment with a piercing stare before backing off and leaning back in his chair, opening the magazine once again.
You rarely liked the idea of being away from Nadia, but tonight you were feeling grateful she was at her dad’s place. The furnace had broken in your apartment and the only thing warming it was a small space heater you had in your room that was doing a job it was not built to do.
You were huddled under blankets wearing a hoodie and two pairs of pants, still feeling the cold air cut through somehow. You were just about to give up any hope of sleep when you heard a quiet knock at your door and curiously you made your way there, grabbing your housecoat as an extra layer.
When you looked through the peephole you saw James on the other side, just as bundled as you so you quickly opened the door, wondering if he was in a similar circumstance to you.
“Hey, I-I’m sorry were you asleep?” he asked and you shook your head. “My furnace broke and it’s absolutely freezing in my place, can I sleep on your couch tonight?”
“Talk about coincidence, mine’s broken too,” you chuckled. “I do have a space heater in my room, it’s not much but it’s better.”
“I-I wouldn’t want to-,”
“James, we're both freezing our asses off. Come inside.”
He didn’t argue with you and followed you over to your room. When you got there, you both stared at the bed like maybe something would change to make the situation less awkward and when it didn’t you took the lead, climbing into one side and getting under the covers.
James looked a little nervous, but he followed your lead, getting in on the other side.
It felt weird to talk so you both stayed silent, turning your backs to the centre of the bed and trying to focus on curling up to stay warm.
Unfortunately for you, you could feel your body start to move the blood away from your extremities in order to keep your core warm. It came with light shivering and some chattering of your teeth that you desperately tried to stop until you felt a hand on your arm.
“Turn around,” James said and you listened, maneuvering yourself so you were facing him, your bodies just a few inches apart. He wrapped an arm around you, pulling you fully into him, letting his legs tangle with yours.
You could feel your heart beating in your ears while he brought your hands up to his chest, holding them in his slightly warmer ones, using a bit of friction to help them regain their heat.
“Better?” he asked and you silently nodded your head. “Good.”
Eventually you had regained enough heat that your body felt well enough to let you fall asleep and you could feel your eyes slowly begin to close as your head rested against James’ chest. He made sure you had enough room to breathe, but kept a tight hold on you until sleep came for him too.
“You slept with him?”
“I did not sleep with him,” you emphasized, pacing your office. “I slept with him. In the same bed. Together.”
“And you are freaking out about this, why?” Lisa asked.
“Because you don’t sleep in the same bed as your neighbours, Lisa!” you insisted. “But we did, a-and I was cold and he held me and…I liked it,” you finished in a whisper.
“What’s stopping you then?” she asked. “He’s cute, he’s a doctor-,”
“He’s divorced.”
“You’re divorced,” Lisa countered.
“Exactly,” you nodded. “He’s divorced twice. I’m divorced with a kid. That makes things… complicated.”
“Are you trying to stop Nadia from getting hurt, or are you trying to find an excuse to stop yourself because you’re too scared to see where this goes?” she asked you and you sighed.
“I don’t know,” you shook your head. “How can I tell that everything won’t just fall apart if I do something?”
“You can’t,” Lisa stood up and put a hand on your arm. “Just try to trust your gut, that’s all you can do in situations like this.”
“My gut is telling me to kiss him and run away,” you shook your head and Lisa nodded,
“Yeah, you probably shouldn’t do that.”
“I’ll figure it out though, right. Eventually.”
Lisa didn’t say anything, simply giving you a hug, knowing deep down you knew what the right thing to do was and like you said, eventually, you’d come to the same conclusion.
Hearing the knock at your door, Nadia bounced off the couch and raced to open it, knowing what was awaiting her on the other side.
James leaned into the doorway when Nadia swung the door open and said,
“What night is it again?”
“Movie night!” Nadia cheered and jumped into his arms, her eyes growing wide when she saw the assortment of treats he was holding.
“It’s not a movie night without snacks,” he said and Nadia agreed with him. You came up towards them and snatched away two of the bags of candy.
“She just got a hundred percent clean bill of health from her pediatrician, you really wanna go and mess that up with all this candy?” you asked.
“Come on, I’m a doctor, I know what I’m doing,” James assured. “We’ll be reasonable, right Nadia?”
The young girl nodded her head and swore on her allowance that she wouldn’t eat all the candy. Hesitantly, you handed the bags back and gave them a skeptical look while they walked over to the couch to get things started.
You finished what you were doing in the kitchen and brought over a bowl of popcorn with you smiling to yourself when you saw Nadia sitting in James’ lap and telling him how to use the remote for your TV. You placed the bowl on the table and went to change into something a little more comfortable for the evening, hoping that by the time you came out they had picked something to watch.
When you stepped out of your room, now wearing a sweater and some flannel pyjama pants, Nadia informed you they were just about to start the movie.
“Come sit, quick mom,” she patted the spot next to her and James and you slipped in next to them, noticing how James wrapped his arm around you, bringing you in a little closer. You didn’t fight the close proximity and instead leaned into it more, resting your head against his shoulder.
Nadia had already leaned back against his chest, her eyes fixed on the screen and her hand shoved inside one of the bags of candy James had brought. The top of her head was just resting against the side of James’ chin and when you looked up at him he was glancing down at Nadia, a small smile on his lips. He looked content.
You could have stayed like that all night, just watching them, but you knew sooner or later you’d have to pay attention to the movie before they started asking questions.
Around halfway through the movie, James tapped your arm and you looked up at him, seeing him point to Nadia with his eyes, who was now fast asleep on him.
You chuckled quietly, sitting up a little straighter and saying,
“I can move her to her bedroom. You don’t have to stay for the rest of the movie.”
“Actually, I’m kind of invested,” James admitted. “But I will take you up on the moving her option, I’ve had to go pee since like the second musical number and she’s really squeezing my bladder.”
You bit back a laugh and shook your head, pausing the movie and standing up so you could genty lift Nadia off of James’ lap and carry her over to her bedroom, tucking her under the covers and placing a kiss to her forehead before going back out to the living room.
James was in the washroom still so you went and made yourself and him a mug of tea. When he came out, he joined you in the kitchen watching as you poured the hot water into the two colourful mugs with math puns on them.
“You take anything in your tea?” you asked.
“No, do you?”
“A little sugar,” you nodded and he offered to grab it for you, opening the cupboard in front of you and placing a hand on your back moving you slightly out of the way so he could take out the box of sugar cubes. Your breath hitched at the sudden contact and you hoped he didn’t hear it, instead masking your desire with small talk.
“I thought you had a sweet tooth,” you said. “It would explain all the candy.”
“I have a bit of a sweet tooth sometimes,” he admitted.
“I think Nadia enables you,” you grabbed your mug and passed James his.
“Oh she definitely does,” he nodded his head, taking a sip of the steaming hot drink before walking back to the couch with you.
You fell back into the same positions you were before, pressing play and continuing to watch the movie. After a few things progressed in the plot you spoke up asking,
“You think this movie’s going to have a happily ever after?”
“Sure, it’s a kid’s movie,” James nodded and looked down at you. “Why?”
“I don’t know,” you shook your head. “It’s stupid.”
James rubbed your arm, coaxing you to look back up at him again.
“You were thinking about something, what was it?”
“It’s just the happy endings don’t always happen,” you said. “I don’t know if I should let Nadi live in a world of fairytales or destroy all her hope of the future.”
“Maybe life isn’t all bells and whistles when it comes to love,” James started. “But we win with other things. I mean look at you, you’ve got an amazing daughter and you’re doing something you love with your life, isn’t that its own kind of happily ever after?”
“I guess it is,” you nodded.
“And you know, your life isn’t over. Who’s to say love is out of the picture?”
You were looking up at him and wondered how he could hit the nail on the head so accurately, like he could read your mind.
Right now, love was pretty clearly in the picture and it was sitting right in front of you.
You could feel yourself reach out your hand, gently brushing your fingertips against his cheek.
“And what if I’m not brave enough to go after it?” you whispered, feeling your heartbeat mixed with his and his shaky exhale that came with your touch.
“Then maybe,” his thumb and forefinger came to hold your chin up, his face inching closer to yours. “Maybe it can meet you halfway.”
You could feel your eyes flutter shut and his lips just barely ghost against yours when you heard a sound coming from Nadia’s bedroom and the spell was broken.
You both opened your eyes and after a moment you pulled away, just before Nadia opened the door to her room.
“Why was I in my room?” she asked.
You were still too stunned to speak, your mind racing at the idea that you were just about to kiss James, and he was going to kiss you back. You felt like a teenager, not knowing what to say or how to act.
Luckily, James was a little more composed than you and explained to Nadia that she had fallen asleep and that you both didn’t want to wake her.
“Is the movie over?” she asked and you all looked at the screen, seeing the end credits rolling.
“Yeah, it is, sorry sweetheart,” James apologized. “Can I make it up to you and read you a story before you go back to bed?”
“Sure,” Nadia agreed.
“Go brush your teeth first,” you instructed. “I’ll tuck you in once James is done reading.”
Nadia went off to the washroom and before James could say anything you stood up and grabbed a few of the dirty dishes, taking them to the kitchen to clean up. You couldn’t talk about what had just happened, not now at least, not when it was still so fresh.
You focused only on the dishes and cleaning the kitchen while James read Nadia her story before wishing her goodnight with a kiss on her forehead and waving goodbye to you and thanking you for the tea.
When the door closed behind him you let out a small breath that you had been holding and went to tuck Nadia into bed.
“Mom, are you okay?” Nadia asked, sensing your far off look.
“I’m fine,” you assured her with a forced smile. “Rest up, I have to take you to your dad’s place tomorrow.”
“Okay,” she yawned. “Night, mom.”
“Goodnight, honey.”
You kissed her on the cheek and stood up, going over to your room and sitting on the edge of the bed. You brushed your fingers against your own lips, closing your eyes you could still feel James pressed up against you, but you pushed it away.
Clearly, you still weren’t brave enough. Not yet.
The following weeks were awkward to say the least. You began spending more time in your office when Nadia was with her dad, just for another excuse to avoid James in the hallway.
He hadn’t made too much effort to reach out, you assumed to give you your space. You knew if you told Lisa she would just say you were overthinking things, but you couldn’t get out of your head, even if you wanted to.
You felt like you were going to stay in this crippling state of indecision forever, but you couldn’t keep it up, not when Nadia would ask questions, you needed to come up with something or someone needed to come up with something for you.
You arrived home late from campus today, this time with the legitimate excuse of grading finals. After the long hours of marking that had pushed you to extreme tedium and boredom you just wanted to curl up on the couch with a good book or something that would stimulate your brain.
Before you went to your room to get changed, you heard a knock at your door. Checking the time you wondered who it could be. It wasn’t often you had visitors past 9PM, that was unless it was James.
When you checked through the peephole, you could see James standing outside your door, waiting for a moment before knocking again.
“Come on, I know you’re in there,” he said. “Please, just let me in.”
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, unlocking the door and opening it, allowing him to step inside.
“Is Nadia at her dad’s place?” he asked while you were shutting the door.
“Yeah,” you nodded, still facing the wood door. “She’s at her-,”
You didn’t have a chance to finish your sentence before James turned you around, taking your face in his hands and pressing a searing kiss to your lips.
You stumbled back until you were pressed against the door, your eyes now closed while you pulled him closer to you. You let yourself run your fingers through your hair like you’d dreamt of doing the night you almost kissed, his hands moving from your face down to your waist, pulling you flush against him.
You could feel your heart beating throughout every cell in your body, so loud it almost blocked out your thoughts. Almost.
You paused for a moment, holding James’ face in your hands and pulling away. Your lips felt swollen from the force with which he had kissed you and you wanted nothing more than to do it again, but you had to ask.
“Is our history going to make this complicated?”
“It’ll be complicated if we make it complicated,” he snuck past your defenses and stole another kiss, shorter, softer. “I want this. You. I want quiet nights just the two of us; loud nights with Nadia; breakfast in the early morning; lunches in your office; dinner together like this makeshift family we’ve created. I just…I want you and everything that comes with it.”
You smiled at his words, bringing him in close to you again for another kiss, this time long and slow like you were dragging out every moment of the future you had together.
When James pulled away from you, your hands fell from his face, travelling down his arms until they were in his. You looked over at him, blinking a few times until began to pull you towards your bedroom, a small smile coming across your face.
James sat down on the edge of your mattress and you stood in front of him. His hands were still in yours, looking up into your eyes. You let your hands come back up to his hair, scratching against his scalp. You smiled when his eyes closed and he hummed at the feeling of your touch.
His hands came back to hold your waist and he brought you closer, his thumb rubbing circles around your skin.
You bent down and pressed another soft kiss to his lips, causing his eyes to flutter open when you pulled away.
“What do you want to do?” you asked, fixing his hair you had messed up just earlier.
“I want to lay down here, and hold you,” he leaned back and pulled you on top of himself, sharing another kiss with you. “And I want to fall asleep knowing you’re in my arms.”
You smiled and nodded your head, whispering a quiet ‘okay’ while you adjusted yourselves to be more in the centre of the mattress.
And just like before, James pulled you close into him, but this time you didn’t let yourself feel taken aback or nervous, you leaned into his touch, savoured when you felt his lips pressed against your hairline, sighed when you felt his hands slip under your shirt to trace mindless shapes on your back.
No equation or formula would be able to describe what you were feeling and it made you realize that maybe math wasn’t the world’s universal language after all.

never in your life did you think you would find yourself in this position.
to be fair, this kind of situation itself wasn’t uncommon; you were laying in your best friend’s bed with blankets strewn about and your heads propped up by millions of pillows. but something was slightly different this time in that it would be the last you’d see of hanbin for months.
zb1 had announced a world tour shortly after their debut, which would require them to travel to many different countries, and could take a bit of time if there were setbacks or possible reschedules of shows. to say you didn’t take the news of the tour well was an understatement, even if you were happy the group was proving to be successful enough to be able to travel to a plethora of different countries just after debut.
you didn’t think you’d have to be away from him for so long, especially so soon, but now the two of you were stuck spending the last night together watching a drama in silence, the only light in the room coming from the tv and a small lamp that was on hanbin’s desk. you’d spent your entire lives in the company of one another and now to break that record for what felt like an eternity filled you to the brim with dread.
sighing, you mumbled, “hanbin?”
he hummed questioningly in response, his body shifting onto his side so he could face you while you talked.
“this fucking sucks.”
hanbin scoffed, placing his hand onto his chest in mock offense, “i think the show is quite funny, myself.”
you offered him the faintest of smiles you could muster, closing your eyes and sucking in a long, deep breath to prevent your voice from trembling as you spoke, “you know what i’m talking about.”
his facade dropped quickly, his eyes filling up with a deep sadness as he threw his arm over your shoulder comfortingly, “i know it does. but just think; i’ll be back in no time and you’ll have to deal with me everyday again for the rest of your life. besides, you know i’ll facetime you whenever i can.”
“i know but,” you paused, not knowing what to say next. you’d had a constant battle within yourself over whether or not you should just admit your feelings for him, but you always chickened out at the last minute. you shook your head, “nevermind. you’re right, i think i’m just being too selfish with you.”
“too selfish? i don’t really think there’s such a thing when it comes to you and i. you saw me, i was equally a mess when i had to break the news to you. hysterics, really,” he imitated himself sobbing and you silently cursed him for always being able to make you laugh.
“well, yes,” you agreed, finally turning to face him, though instantly regretting your actions the moment you opened your mouth again, “but it’s something more than that and i’m not sure how to feel.”
he cocked his head to the side in confusion, “i don’t think i’m understanding what you’re trying to get at.”
“me either,” you replied, your voice quiet, “and that’s the scary part.”
what’s worse is that most times you felt as though you could read hanbin like an open book, but tonight you really couldn't tell what was going on behind his eyes. maybe it was the reflection of the tv off of them that put your mind into overdrive. without any thought, your hand found its way to his face, gently cupping his cheek as your thumb traces various different little shapes on his skin.
"can you please just say it already? before i have to?" hanbin spoke freely, viciously tearing you from your thoughts.
“what?”
his eyes fluttered shut in response to your gentle touch, “you’re never like this. just tell me what’s on your mind. you know i will never, ever judge you.”
“hanbin, i-“ you didn’t realize how close he’d gotten to you, which only made you panic even more, “i don't know why i didn't tell you sooner. i mean god, it's been years of deciding when the right time would be to do it, if the time were to ever come at all, and now i feel like a dumbass because tomorrow i won't even have you anymore. i’ve just realized that among all the chaos and fans throwing themselves in your direction, i realized that everything i have ever wanted  could have been you this whole time, and i hate that you leaving is what has led to this.”
you paused for a moment before starting back in with your monologue, “it’s to the point i can’t imagine my life without you, even if it’s just for the few months you’ll be away for tour. i mean, not even 5 hours go by and you’re getting a facetime call from me an-”
your erratic breathing was causing your words to run together into a giant mess of mumbling and not knowing where you were going next, but it was all cut off in an instant when hanbin leaned forward and pressed his lips against yours gently. it was beyond quick, and if you blinked you’re sure you would have missed it, but it’s all you ever needed.
“i get it,” he said after a moment of silence.
“you didn’t even let me get to my point,” you sheepishly laughed, pink taking over the expanse of your cheeks.
he smiled softly, taking this time to speak, “don’t worry, you got your point across. i’ve known for a while now, actually, but i’ve had my own doubts, just like you. i didn’t want to hurt our friendship either so i just tried my best to ignore it. figured i would rather have you as my dearest friend than not in my life at all in the event that i was reading our whole situation completely wrong.”
he paused for a moment, gauging your reaction before he began to talk again, “when you said it could have been me this whole time, that’s when i understood. you have no idea how many times i’ve thought the exact same thing.”
another silence fell between you after that, but you were both thinking the same thing. it was comfortable, as it always was beside him, but you couldn't help but feel like you were under a microscope with how hanbin’s eyes were scanning your face. a sad smile spread on your face as you closed your eyes for the nth time that night, not bearing to look at him.
"what’s the matter?" he asked, reaching his hand out to brush a strand of hair behind your ear, his gaze softening the moment you leaned into his touch.
“saying goodbye is gonna be a lot harder now.”
“it could always be a ‘see you later until i get back’ kind of thing, if that’s what you want” hanbin offered, a smile now blooming beautifully across his face.
"of course that's what i want," you joked, "but i’m going to have to come to terms with this. you gotta get out there and show everyone what sung hanbin is made of."
"i love you," he answered. your brain wasn't given enough time to process those words before he continued nonchalantly, "i’ll be able to call you whenever the time zones allow. it’ll be like we were never apart."
“i-i really hope so,” you could feel your brain malfunctioning, “and i love you, too.”
"really?" he asked, being suddenly energized by your words. he sat up a little, supporting himself on his forearms, now leaning over you a bit with a cheeky grin, "say it again."
you couldn't help but laugh looking up at him, his eyes shining brighter than the stars with that eager expression on his face, "yes, really. i love you, hanbin. i always have."
when he kissed you this time, it wasn't like the first, or the second or the third. this time, it felt like everything you had waited for all those years was finally to its end and you had both done enough waiting. your arms reached up and found their way behind his neck, bringing him closer to you. his moved from their relaxed position beside you to your hips and the delicate touch of his fingers on your skin felt like fire, sending a wave of sparks all through your body.
he began to pepper kisses all along your jaw and neck, his fingers toying with the hem of your t-shirt, “can i…?”
“yeah,” you stuttered, shifting upwards momentarily to help him remove the fabric from your body. once your top was discarded somewhere in the mess of covers surrounding you, there was a short silence.
"you’re stunning," hanbin said, voice barely above a whisper as his eyes took in all of you.
you swatted at his chest, “oh, stop!”
you could feel your face grow warm at the next thing you managed to squeak out, “hey, i’ve never… done anything like this before.”
“i know.”
“should i be insulted?”
hanbin laughed before leaning down and hushing your babbling with his lips once again. "you know that's not what i meant. besides, would i not have been the first person you told?"
“you got me there,” you giggled, though you got a little more serious as you asked, “what about you?”
“never, you’re my first as well.”
you didn’t know why you had thought differently about him, even if his previous point was accurate to your friendship. while you were always each other’s number one, he was definitely the more social of the two of you since he was an idol and interacted with fans and his labelmates a lot, so you had just assumed he had gotten around a couple of times. but now, realizing you both were in the same boat, it made you feel a lot more comfortable.
you took your turn grabbing the bottom of his shirt and lifting it over his head, a soft, giddy smile adorning your lips as you discarded it onto the floor beside his bed. he pecked your lips gently, slowly moving down your jaw and neck to just behind your ear, gently sucking to leave a mark only he was able to see. your back arched a bit, a quiet gasp falling from your mouth.
his hands worked to unbutton your jeans, mouth now settling on one of your nipples and sucking lightly, eliciting a moan from your lungs as he did so. you shimmied out of your pants, allowing hanbin to toss those into the pile of your clothes already on the floor with a soft thud. hanbin peppered kisses along the expanse of your chest and slowly down to the waistband of your underwear, eyes peering up at you through his lashes, “are you sure this okay?”
you nodded, brushing some of his hair out of his eyes, “positive.”
upon hearing your words of approval, he hooked his finger beneath them, gently pulling them off of your legs and exposing everything to him, a faint smile on his lips as he began to press kisses along the insides of your thighs, completely avoiding where you desperately wanted him. he hummed softly, littering a few bruises across your delicate skin before he inched closer and closer to your core, finally licking an experimental stripe up your slit.
a gasp slipped past your lips as he did, a shudder racing down your spine at the feeling. his tongue slowly began to work on your clit, causing your eyes to flutter shut and back to arch ever so slightly off of the bed, fingers threading through his hair and tugging gently on the roots each time he sent a wave of pleasure coursing through your body.
he hummed softly against you, the vibration beginning to make your legs shake, and you were so close to reaching your high you could almost taste it, but hanbin ripped himself away from you, chin glistening with your arousal as he did. you almost felt embarrassed at the whine you let out at the absence of his touch, but he quickly reassured you that you’d have all of him in just  few minutes.
you blushed, stuttering as you asked, “do you…”
“no, no, we can save that for another time, yeah? i want to make tonight about making you feel good,” his gentle smile was enough to reassure you that he was okay with you not returning the favor, but it certainly gave you something to look forward to once he returned back from tour.
hanbin made quick work of discarding his sweatpants and boxers, his cock springing free and very obviously hard from the previous events. you couldn’t help but stare, worried about what was to come, and whether or not you would be in a severe amount of pain. he noticed as he rolled a condom down his shaft, pressing a kiss to your forehead, “we can stop here, if you want. i don’t want to do anything you’re uncomfortable with.”
“it’s okay, i want to, really,” you replied, hoping the honesty lacing your words was enough. he nodded, positioning himself over you, one arm bearing all of his weigh and the other one lining himself up with you, tip teasing your core.
he pressed his forehead to yours, glittering brown eyes staring deep into your own, “if it’s too much, please don’t be afraid to tell me stop.”
they say your first time should be saved for someone very special. you had never really thought about it before, the concept of it all just not ever being at the front of your mind, but being there with hanbin, you understood why it was that people believed such things.
you weren't sure if it was the way hanbin touched you as if you were made of glass, or the way he kissed your pain away as he slipped inside of you for the first time, or if it was the way he couldn't go more than a minute without reminding you that he loved you; but it made you feel that in all the time you had spent with him, nothing had ever felt as right as this. every experience, every beautiful moment you had shared together, everything felt like it was building up to this. the reciprocated love that you were sharing couldn't be compared to anything you had ever felt before.
when all was said and done, hanbin grabbed a blanket to cover your bodies instead of searching in the dim light of the tv for your clothes. his chest was warm and you loved the idea of laying against it, listening to the steady beat of his heart.
part of you expected things to feel different, and in a way they did, but this was the path that the two of you had chosen together. you believed that as long as he was beside you, you were on the right one. you believed in hanbin, and he believed in you, too.

Jamie tartt friends with benefits would be very fun! I love how you write Jamie it’s so so incredibly lovely
I wrote this bc I’m mad about old men trying to tell me how to do my job.
Tumblr media
soft hands hit the jagged ground
It starts off as a joke, really.
You’re both at the same party and arguing about who’s the better kisser, when suddenly your lips are on Jamie’s and neither of you are quite sure who made the first move.
You don’t talk much, just enough to say that this competition extends to other physical activities and to order a car, so a few hours later you collapse exhausted on the bed in your flat.
“Fuck,” Jamie gasps.
“Fuck,” you agree.
“We’ve got to do this again sometime,” he says, hand on his stomach as he stares up at the ceiling.
“Give me ten minutes,” you reply. “Can’t let my twenties go to waste now, can I?”
So yeah, it’s like a thing.
It’s not a romantic thing, that’s for sure.
It’s a “we just won a match” thing, or a “I had a shit day at work” thing, or “I need to blow off steam and can’t be bothered to pick up a stranger at the club” thing.
No, romance does not factor in. This is strictly a friendship-type deal.
It’s great, because neither of you actually has time for a relationship, and hookups are so hit or miss. And besides, you’ve never been extremely thrilled at the idea of some random person knowing where you live. And Jamie’s a little worried that someone will try to steal his jerseys.
(Not worried enough, apparently, because you manage to make off with one from his Man City days.)
You both swore that neither of you would catch feelings and maybe that would have been true except for the evening Jamie called you and said, “Can I come over?” in a voice you’ve never heard before.
You’ve barely hung up the phone when he’s knocking at your door, dressed in a suit and actual dress shoes, not trainers, hands leaving your body only for a moment to shut the door and turn the lock.
He kisses you like he’s got all the time in the world, all slow and hungry.
He touches you almost like you’re someone else, and you’d think it’s strange except you can’t think of anything other than the fact that his body is pressed against yours and he’s holding you like it means something.
You don’t say anything until you’re walking back to your room wrapped in a towel, water bottles in hand.
“What was that about?” you ask, handing him his water.
Jamie barely lifts his head. He decides not to play dumb, to be a little bit truthful. He’s not sure why, maybe because he’s still coming down and his brain doesn’t work proper.
“Me and the lads were at a funeral today. For Ms. Welton’s dad. Made me feel all fuckin’… strange and shit. Dunno.” He takes a sip of his water and you settle in the bed next to him.
You nod and say, “Makes sense.” It does. Funerals are fucking strange. The last one you went to had you feeling weird for a month so yeah, you get it.
You’re both silent for a while longer when Jamie blurts out, “I told Keeley I still loved her,” and then you’re silent again, but it’s a different kind of quiet. The kind where you can practically hear the words oh shit hanging in the air.
A couple things click into place where they probably shouldn’t, and so you take your cues from Jamie and say what’s on your mind as you blurt out, “Is that who you were thinking of?”
Jamie goes completely still, which is also strange because he’s never still. Always tapping or shifting around or something.
“Right,” you say, far too brightly. It’s fine, after all. “I understand. Yeah, no, makes sense.”
You’re not sure what else to say after that so you kind of just sit there and wait for Jamie to move again. He does, sits up enough to grab his knickers from where he dropped them off the side of your bed, slide them on, and say, “Better get going. It’s getting late.”
“Yeah,” you say halfheartedly, suddenly very, very tired. It’s doesn’t escape your notice that Jamie doesn’t meet your eyes the entire time he collects his clothes and heads out the door.
You manage to get up and fish a new pair of underwear from one drawer and a sleep shirt from another, and it’s not until you’re back in your bed that you realize it’s Jamie’s 51 kit.
But you’re too tired to get up and change so you just leave it and pass out.
You wake up the next morning with way too many emotions to consider, so you let yourself buy a coffee from the shop instead of making one at home. You get an extra shot of espresso to block out the great big warning bells firing in your head.
You’re not-so-blissfully unaware of the fact that Jamie’s on the other side of town having a similar morning. One that involves going to Nelson Road early to sneak in some extra cardio so he can work off whatever feelings still linger from last night.
For a brief moment, he considers going to Dr. Sharon. But no, there’s no need for that because it’s all straightforward, innit? He’s a little fucked from the funeral and telling Keeley he loves her, and all he needs is one more good fuck and then it’s all out of his system.
Except whenever he thinks about your face of all body parts, his chest gets all squeezy. And worse.
So maybe it’s not so straightforward.
He does fucking love Keeley, right? He’d take a bullet for her, and he misses talking to her every day. He scrunches up his face and imagines kissing her, nothing too wild, and it doesn’t make his chest tighten.
That’s a good thing.
Right?
By the time you get home from work, you’ve decided that it’s fine. It’s weird that he was thinking about someone else, but it doesn’t mean anything. Honestly, you two are just messing around until one of you decides to get into a relationship. So yeah, it’s all good. It’s not like you’d date him anyway.
You’ve been pushing away thoughts like that for years, you’re not about to let them surface now.
Jamie does not particularly want to talk to Dr. Sharon about this. He wants to talk to Keeley, except last time he tried that she walked him all the way to the therapist’s office and left him there.
He thinks maybe Ted would be good, except he’s not sure Ted would know how to deal with Jamie’s whole “friends with benefits” situation.
Beard probably would, except his relationship with Jane is one step away from psychotic, so Jamie thinks that he’ll talk to Sam because Sam is smart and probably won’t judge him.
It works out, actually, because he’s going over to Sam’s for a sleepover since they have an out-of-town match the next day, and need to be up early. Jamie hates waking up early so Sam promised to make sure he wouldn’t press the snooze button on his alarm.
So yeah, now he’s in Sam’s car (a fucking Tesla, all eco-friendly and shit) and they’re talking about training and brand deals and Jamie asks if Sam’s got a girl, but Sam just blushes and says I don’t know, not anymore before turning the question on Jamie.
Jamie sighs and puts his face in his hands. “Let’s wait till we ain’t in your fucking car, yeah? It’s too fucking long to say here.”
Sam obliges and just turns up the radio for next eight minutes it takes to get to his house.
Jamie hauls his bag into Sam’s flat and down on the guest room floor before taking a deep fucking breath.
Right. He can do this.
He makes his way to the kitchen where Sam’s pulling something out of a crock pot and Jamie is a little envious of his ability to cook so well for himself.
Sam is oblivious to Jamie’s internal monologue as he says, “Alright, this girl. Tell me about her.”’
Jamie takes another breath and then the words just come spilling out.
“I’ve known her since we were fucking…fifteen or some shit and like, we’ve always been friends. But lately it’s been like, what’s the word, friends with benefits? Where we have sex but aren’t dating. It’s been alright, mostly, except yesterday I told Keeley I loved her and things got all fucked up in me head.”
“How so?” Sam prods encouragingly.
“It’s like…” Jamie pauses. What is it like? “Thinking about kissing Keeley didn’t make me all tingly or nothing. Dunno, felt- wrong. But I think of her face-” he groans. “Shit, man, me heart started pounding like mad. I’ve seen her naked, and it’s her face that gets me. I mean, what the fuck is that?”
Sam’s face is doing some weird contortionist movement, trying to hide his expression, so Jamie says, “Fucking hell man, spit it out before you break something,” and Sam says,
“I don’t think you love Keeley.”
That makes Jamie mad. Of course he loves Keeley. He’d do anything for Keeley.
Sam must see it written in his face because he hurries on. “I don’t mean that you don’t have love for her. I mean that you do not seem to love her romantically. It would seem to me you like this other girl.”
Well shit. That’s exactly what Jamie was afraid of. Leave it to Sam to get to the heart of the problem in five minutes, only this leaves him with another problem:
He’s spent the last nine years pretending like he had only friendly feelings toward you. Innocent, like.
He can’t let all that pretending go to waste now.
You don’t see each other for a week which is fine, because you had decided way beforehand not to meet up until the next weekend. You were finishing a major project at work and he was wrapping up a killer week at training. Hence, Friday night was the night to blow off all that steam.
You’ve successfully squashed any feelings for Jamie. They’re gone, buried deep down once again and you will not let them come back up.
And yet, you’ve put on a pink set under your shirt and sweat shorts, with a little more makeup than you’d gone to work with. Maybe the whole Keeley thing is lingering in your head a little more than you thought.
Whatever. Doesn’t matter.
You grab your keys and head out the door to Jamie’s house.
Jamie’s already texted you to let you know the door’s open, so you slip in and turn the lock behind you. The foyer is lit with a dim glow from upstairs.
“Jamie?” you call softly, “You here?”
There’s no response, so you pad up the stairs, stopping only to drop your keys on top of the table in the hall.
“Jamie?”  you say again, peering into his bedroom. Ah. So that’s where the light’s coming from.
Jamie jumps from where he’s been bending over a candle. “Shit, you scared me. Didn’t hear you fucking come in.”
You smile tentatively, unsure what to say. Jamie shakes out the match and crosses over to the ensuite to drop it into the sink. He comes back out again and dips you into a kiss.
He says, “Nice shirt,” with his lips still against yours, and it’s only then that you remember you’ve put on his old kit, the one you stole the second time you went home with him.
You grin and kiss him again, waiting to be on your own two feet again so you can slide a hand under his sweatshirt. Neither of you have worn anything particularly amazing because it’s what’s underneath that counts, isn’t it?
Jamie’s thinking something similar because he starts backing you up to the bed as you fumble to slip shirts over heads and pants down on the floor. He traces an appreciative palm over a pink flower appliqué, and then you push the last traces of doubt as he hooks a finger under your waistband.
“What’s with all the candles?” you ask, when it’s dark enough to be considered nighttime but the clock says it’s technically morning.
“Setting the mood,” Jamie replies, voice gravely and just a little bit raw.
“Hmm,” you say. “Glad you didn’t burn the house down.”
Jamie’s been pressing kisses up your bare arm and you can feel him grin at that. “Psh. I’m an adult now. I’m fuckin’ responsible.”
“Sure,” you chuckle, then shiver as Jamie’s mouth has found its way to a spot behind your ear. “You ready to go again?”
“No,” Jamie replies between kisses, “What makes you think that?”
“Just a hunch,” you say as you roll on top of him. You trace his lower lip with your thumb, and he takes that opportunity to his it. And to run his knuckles up your sides.
“Fucker,” you hiss. “That tickles.”
He smirks, a real one, with his eyes all heavy-lidded and the barest hint of his teeth gleaming in the candlelight.
“Yeah?” he whispers. “What about this? Does this tickle?”
He actually fucking dances his fingertips up your sides as you gasp and try to get off of him. He’s not having it, because he rolls you over and continues tickling you as if you hadn’t just been fucking fifteen minutes ago.
You’re laughing and half-heartedly pushing at him and it’s so ridiculous that you stop trying to get him away and instead press as much of your skin against his as you can.
He’s whispering in your ear, a combination of crude jokes and compliments, the kind that makes a blush bloom from your chest all the way to the tips of your ears.
God fucking damn it, he’s going to be the death of you, but you can’t make yourself stop smiling.
He’s still murmuring in your ear and he’s saying something about how fucking gorgeous you look, how fucking beautiful you’d look on the side of the pitch with his number on or as his date to some event and how everyone would be jealous because you’re so fucking hot, but you belong with him and he’s the one who gets to see you last thing at night and first thing in the morning.
It’s so utterly ridiculous.
He’s only saying it because he’s so far gone.
It’s so. Utterly. Ridiculous.
“Jamie, we can’t date,” you say between giggles.
He pauses to ask “Why not?” and the remnants of your laughter die in your throat. Oh shit. One good look at his face tells you he’s not joking.
“Jamie,” you say again, this time more seriously, “Jamie, we really can’t date. That’s not how this works. You’re supposed to date a model or an actress or something, and I’m supposed to date, like, an accountant. Or a lawyer.”
“Why?” Jamie asks, accent thick as it’s ever been.
“Because,” you reply. “I’m not really the trophy-girlfriend type. And… we’ve been friends pretty much forever. It’d mess everything up when we break up.” He’s still on top of you, propping himself up on his elbows so he can see your face. You want to point out that this is a conversation that probably requires clothing, but you don’t actually want that so you stay silent.
“What if we didn’t break up?” he suggests.
You bark out a short laugh. “It doesn’t work like that. You can’t just choose not to break up.”
“Can,” he responds.
“Can’t,” you counter.
“Don’t be Roy Kent,” he says.
“Don’t tell me what to do,” you reply. “And anyway, I’m way sexier than him. And less scratchy.”
“You fucking like when I tell you what to do,” he says.
You make a face. “I like it when it’s sexy. This is not sexy. This is sad and stupid, and we promised we wouldn’t have this conversation.”
“You promised,” Jamie reminds you. “I just didn’t disagree.”
He’s not wrong.
“Fine,” you say, pushing him a little so he’ll get off you.
You sit up and wrap the sheets around your chest, pulling your knees close. “You told me less than a week ago that you were still in love with Keeley, and now you want me to date you? I love you, but you’re just getting your wires crossed because we’re having sex.”
Jamie shoots up, mouth open and you realize what you just said.
“Shit, not like that, I mean as a friend, not- not as- I don’t know, I didn’t mean to say that,” you stutter out.
“I love Keeley as a friend,” Jamie says. “Talked to Sam about it, and he says I don’t know how to tell the difference between a friend and fucking romance. He said I’m fucking in love with you, not her, and he’s fucking right.”
You’d say that sounds like the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard, except you’ve known Jamie for nine years and yeah, that sounds like something he’d do.
“Right,” you say slowly, “and you just now started feeling this way?”
He hesitates before deciding fuck it. “Nah. I think- I’ve been pretending like I didn’t since we were like, fuckin’ sixteen, probably. Didn’t want to screw it up though, did I?”
You shake your head before saying, “No, I guess not.”
“And anyway, us being together is that different from what we do now,” he continues. “Dating just means we can like, hold hands.”
You laugh and ask, “Is that the only thing that’s going to change?” but you can feel your resolve softening. Jamie can feel it too.
“Nah,” he says, feeling confident to tuck a stray strand of hair behind your ear. “I can tell you that I love you. And kiss you just because. And get me mum off my back about never making a move on you.”
You say, “Hmm,” as if you’re considering it, but he knows you’ve already made your decision by the way you reach for him with both hands with a smile beginning to bloom across your face.

Mike Schmidt x Male reader
1/2
Mike is such a little meow meow boy and as such I've declared him a bottom (my opinion means nothing) my first actual fic
Mild NSFW
It's late around 6 pm, your lazeing on your couch in nothing but your boxers and sweater, when you hear a knock on your door, reluctantly you get out of your comfortable spot in front of your TV to get it. Peaking through your peep hole you see your perpetually tired and pretty neighbor, Mike and suddenly you feel like maybe you should have made the extra stop to put on pants. But you're here now so you open the door, "Hello," you say nervously hiding half way behind your door hoping he doesn't notice the Minecraft boxers wrapped around your waist " what brings you over?" He looks anxious now that you've opened the door a little drop of sweat forming on his brow , "um I'm sorry to intrude and all but um..." He shifted nervously from foot to foot then said "Can you watch my little sister I have to go to work and my usual sitter is M.I.A." You think for a second then ask "What do I get out of it?" You knew he was struggling so you didn't expect money you just wanted to make the brown eyed boy squirm. "Anything." He half sighed "Anything?" You repeat questioningly "Anything" he said looking at you with his big brown eyes, how could anyone say no to him with eyes like that you thought before stating "ok I'm holding you to that."
You quickly go back inside and put on a pair of sweatpants and shut down your house before following him across the street to his place it was a carbon copy of your house just a few things were different. He leads you inside where he tells you what your responsibilities and such are like his sister's name is Abby and she spends most her time drawing and that she already ate dinner so u just gotta make sure the house doesn't burn down while he's gone, well that's what you got between checking him out and his anxious chatter. Then after that little speech he says bye to his sister to her protest as she doesn't want to be separated from her big brother, then once he separates from her he says a polite "bye" and heads out the door. Which leaves you alone with a kid you only met once before when you first moved in. Honestly you had no idea why he trusted you to watch his sister but you got to know the pretty neighbor boy better so that's a plus.
You slowly make your way to Abby's room knocking lightly, "hey can I come in?" You ask and the door is opened by the small girl. "So you're who's watching me now?" She asked unimpressed. You just nod, man kids are rude then what she said next gave you a bit of a shock, " I don't get why he talks about you so much, anyway do you like drawing," you chuckle lightly "of course, I love drawing." So you drew with the kid until she fell asleep at her desk. She is a cute kid you thought to yourself as you tucked her into bed. You then went and sat on his couch and fell asleep watching his TV.
You feel the couch dip as someone sits on it waking you, you look over to see mike then look at the clock its 10 am and you groggily say "sorry for falling asleep for so long." He looked over and apparently he didn't notice you woke up. "Sorry for waking you." He said in a whispered voice, God his voice is really nice. " So I've been thinking about what you can do to pay me." You say slyly. "Yeah," he said curiously "what?" You smirk " I'd except payment with a kiss." He instantly flushed and looked away a little bit of sweat beginning to form. You quickly say "it was just an idea you don't have to." You beginning to believe you read him wrong only for him to say "no it's ok," he turned to look at you "I was just caught off guard." He then grabbed your face giving you a small peck. Your hands going to rest on his hips as you kiss him, this one lasting longer. The kisses got more heated with each one before he pulled back, a little gasp coming from between his chapped lips. "Oh god." He groaned quietly, you gently pulled him onto your lap giving he plenty of time to pull away if he wished. His hands now rest on your shoulders, as you slowly kiss his neck his stubble scratching your face. He let out little whimpers and whines his hands going to pull on your hair. Then he jolted a little and began peeling himself away from your grasp. "hmmm..?" U look up at his questioningly "um I think um maybe we should stop, I'm really tired, and I gotta take care of Abby when she gets back." He looked nervous. it was cute his face was flushed, a tent in his worn blue jeans, and his brown eyes almost totally eclipsed by his pupils. Thought he did look like he was about to fall asleep on his feet "yeah you should get some rest." You stood up a tent in your pants as well. "Can u watch Abby again tonight?" he asked nervously "she seems to really like you." You smirk at him "you don't have to pretend you don't just want to see me again, and of course I'll come back if that's my payment." You give him one more kiss he whines into and then you go back to your place the house seems so empty compared to his. The warm lights seeming cold and the rooms look bare, but that's how it always is.

Your wedding day had been so stressful that soon after going to bed -in your own room- you fell asleep much faster than you usually would. And contrary to other times, for once you didn’t wake up in the middle of the night, plagued by your nightmares.
You were incredibly comfortable under the soft warm covers, so when the rather loud knock on the door pulled you out of the pleasant haze of sleep you couldn’t help the groan leaving your lips, burying your face deeper into the pillow.
Maybe if you didn’t make any noise, whoever it was would go away.
“Y/N?” Benedict’s voice reached inside, making your eyes snap open.
Or maybe not.
“Yes?” you called out, your voice still drowsy and Benedict let out a breath.
“Can you open the door please?”
You blinked a couple of times and sat up in bed, then pushed the covers off of you and walked to the door to unlock it before opening it.
…Alright, this was just not fair to the rest of you mortals on this green earth.
Benedict looked so handsome even at this very early hour of the morning that you could only gawk at him for a moment. Perhaps it was because this was the first time you were seeing him in his home attire, perhaps it was his slightly messy hair that made you want to run your fingers through just to see if it was as soft as it looked or perhaps it was his blue eyes that gleamed even with the sunlight coming from the window.
Unlike his formal attire, he wasn’t wearing a waistcoat or a jacket, just a white shirt that showed off his muscular chest and black pants. There was a tiny spot of blue over the collar of the sinful shirt -you had decided to refer to it as such from this moment on- which made you think he had been painting, that would explain the lack of formal clothes.
Your eyes raked over his broad chest, trailing up to his neck and you forced yourself to meet his gaze, ignoring the skip on your heart, half fearing he would be aware of your hungry gaze but apparently you had nothing to worry. Benedict looked almost in a daze, his eyes focused on you but you knew for a fact that you did not look nearly as good as him especially first thing in the morning. Your hair was a mess, you had fallen asleep in your under shift last night and sleep was still clinging to your eyes.
“Good morning,” you remembered to say and that was enough to make him snap out of it.
“Hello,” he said. “Sorry if I disturbed you, I just…wanted to make sure you were alright.”
You frowned slightly as you rubbed at your eye with the back of your hand, barely aware of the petulant pout on your lips, making him smile softly.
“I usually don’t wake up before 8 o’clock,” you rasped out and cleared your throat. “I wasn’t aware you woke up earlier, no one told me. It wasn’t my intention to be rude.”
Benedict shook his head.
“No no,” he said. “Please don’t worry about it, I don’t wake up before that either. It’s just that um—it’s twelve o’clock?”
You dropped your hand, staring up at him. “No it’s not.”
Benedict repressed a smile and nodded at the huge clock on your wall, and you followed his line of sight, looking over your shoulder to see that it was, in fact, twelve o’clock.
“What on earth?” you mumbled and Benedict let out a small chuckle.
“Long night?”
“How did I sleep until noon?”
“Well you did pass out yesterday,” he pointed out. “So I’d say it was a tiring day.”
You shook your head.
“This is still unacceptable,” you said. “I’ll be downstairs shortly—”
“Oh no no,” Benedict cut you off. “Get your rest, please. I only wanted to check on you because the maids said they knocked on your door but there was no answer so…you know, I wanted to make sure you were alright.”
“I didn’t even hear anyone knocking,” you murmured and he smiled softly.
“It’s alright,” he said. “Like I said, I only wanted to check before I changed and left.”
Your head shot up. “You’re leaving?”
“Yeah because I…” his eyes searched your face. “Did you not want me to?”
“Oh no, that’s not what I meant,” you said, shaking your head and Benedict motioned between you.
“Because I can stay—”
“No I’m sure you’re busy—”
“Or I can change plans and we could just go—”
“It’s absolutely fine,” you cut him off. “I was just curious. And I should probably talk with the housekeeper, you know? Even if I’ve made quite the first impression I’m guessing.”
Benedict shot you that crooked grin of his. “There are worse first impressions to be made, I’m sure.”
You clicked your tongue. “We’ll see about that,” you said. “I mean I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’m not exactly…a warm person.”
Benedict pulled his brows together, an exaggerated look of disbelief etched in his features.
“You? Not a warm person?” he asked. “Here I thought you were the nicest lady in the ton.”
You scoffed a laugh and scrunched up your nose, shaking your head. A silence fell upon you and Benedict cleared his throat, pointing at his own room with his thumb.
“I’d better…”
“Right,” you said quickly. “Sure.”
He shot you a tight lipped smile and approached his room but before he could open it, you had already stepped out of yours.
“But um—” the words left your mouth before you could stop them or had any idea what would follow them for that matter. You looked up at the high ceiling, trying to recall what your aunt would tell your uncle whenever he would leave for the day, then took a deep breath as you remembered it, your eyes finding his again;
“Are you going to be home for dinner?”
A soft light appeared in his eyes and he smiled before nodding fervently.
“Yeah, absolutely.”
“Alright,” you said and he blinked a couple of times as if he was trying to find what to ask back.
“And do you want anything from…” he started in a haste and paused to think for a second. “From the gentlemen’s club?”
You pulled your brows together and tilted your head to the left in confusion while Benedict grimaced, closing his eyes as if he was annoyed at himself before opening them again.
“Because that’s where I’m going,” he explained. “To meet Anthony and Colin.”
You huhed. “I don’t really know what people do there.”
“Not much to be honest,” he said and shrugged his shoulders. “I can bring you a cigar?”
You stopped the laughter threatening to leave your lips and pursed them.
“No thank you,” you said. “I don’t like the smell of cigars. I appreciate the offer though.”
“Anytime,” he said with a grin and you went back into your room to close the door behind you. You were painfully aware of the smile curling your lips but you shook your head and put your hands on your hips, looking around the room.
“Alright then,” you muttered to yourself. “Let’s see.”
                                               *
Mrs. Alton, your new housekeeper was a woman of few words with a solemn look on her face but a couple of minutes into a conversation with her you could already tell she was going to be very helpful to you. As she gave you a tour of the house with Paula following you, she answered any and every question you asked and you made multiple mental notes so that you could ask your aunt later on. You weren’t raised in the ton which meant you weren’t exactly educated in all parts of running a household but now you were going to have to learn.
You were just about to be finished as you passed through the last room on the other side of the hall but one glance inside was enough to make you stop in your tracks.
“That’s the room Mr. Bridgerton chose as his art studio ma’am,” Mrs. Alton said and you nibbled on your lip. The room itself was so Benedict that you could’ve said it was his art studio without even so much as a hesitation. It was well lit with direct sunshine and a wonderful view of the garden and the greenhouse, and his sketches and paints were scattered around the room along with a couple of canvases on wooden easels. The sofa across from the fireplace looked so comfortable and on the coffee table there were some books, no doubt on art.
“Oh,” you said, trying to decide whether to walk in or not but since Benedict wasn’t here and you had already sneaked around in his own house to take a look at his art, you decided a second time would be simply disrespectful.
At least where the staff could see.
You cleared your throat. “So garden next?”
“Yes, Mrs. Bridgerton.”
“Oh I think I can find my way to the garden,” you told her and Paula and smiled, “Please, don’t let me keep you from your day.”
“Of course ma’am,” they both curtsied and you walked past them to make your way downstairs, then left the house to step into the huge backyard.
The green garden full of colorful flowers was so beautiful and the water fountain made it look as if the garden itself was enchanted. You could imagine yourself sitting in the gazebo or spending hours in the greenhouse, and you still couldn’t believe this whole place was yours—
Benedict’s.
It was Benedict’s, not yours.
And you were going to stay away from that greenhouse and not spend much time in the most beautiful garden you had ever seen. Even though it was like someone had pulled it out of your dreams, you still couldn’t risk spending hours in it just to see it getting torn apart again.
You swallowed thickly and approached the gardener who was busy with one of the flower beds, but he jumped on his feet as soon as he saw you there.
“Good afternoon,” you said warmly. “Mr. Binsted if I remember correct?”
“You do Mrs. Bridgerton,” he bowed. “Good afternoon.”
“How are you, Mr. Binsted?”
“I’m well,” he said. “It’s a beautiful sunny day. How about you?”
“I’m alright,” you said. “I simply wanted to admire the garden up close, it is a masterpiece. And it is all your doing, without any help at all?”
“You flatter me ma’am,” he said with a proud smile. “It is. Thank you for letting me continue working here.”
“I should be thanking you for accepting to continue working here after your former employers moved,” you said. “I was actually wondering if I could ask something of you if that is quite alright?”
“Of course, Mrs. Bridgerton.”
“It caught my attention that although you have so many beautiful flowers here, there are no peonies,” you said. “And it’s my best friend’s favorite flower, so would it be possible to plant them as well?”
“Peonies?” he asked and nodded. “Absolutely.”
“And we can plant them over there, right next to irises,” you said. “If we do it in two weeks, by the time peonies start to open, irises will be fading so it’ll overlap with each other. And around them we could use sweet woodruff as the base, it’ll be the natural mulch and keep the soil moist so that peonies can bloom better.”
He tilted his head. “You know about flowers.”
Your head shot up and you shifted your weight.
“Just…just a little,” you muttered and cleared your throat. “And in a month perhaps we can also plant some lavenders over there, when the weather allows.”
“Of course Mrs. Bridgerton. I’ll plant the peonies tomorrow.”
“I appreciate it,” you said with a smile and he motioned at the greenhouse.
“Would you like me to change anything there as well?”
You looked over your shoulder to see the greenhouse better, your heart skipping a beat. Even in your dreams you would find it hard to believe that you could ever have a greenhouse, and the mere thought of the possibility of having it would make you smile in excitement but now…
You bit inside your cheek, that burning in your throat coming back as you felt the longing fill you, but you took a deep breath and shook your head.
“I’m not really good with greenhouses I’m afraid, I will leave that to your expertise,” you said. “Have a lovely day.”
“You too, Mrs. Bridgerton.”
You walked away from him back into the house, biting at your tongue and as soon as you stepped inside, Paula walked to you.
“A footman just brought a letter for you, ma’am.”
“Oh thank you,” you said and took the envelope from her, then opened it. Apparently Lady Bridgerton was inviting you for a stroll in the park with the rest of the family and you thought for a moment, then turned to Paula.
“Is the footman still here?”
“Yes, he’s waiting to deliver your reply.”
You nodded slowly and folded the paper to put it back into the envelope.
“Would you please tell him to tell Lady Bridgerton I will be there?” you asked. “I just need to visit my sister first.”
                                                    *
When the carriage stopped in front of Josie and Andrew’s house, you stepped out and approached the marble stairs to climb them. After reaching the door, you knocked on it and waited until the butler opened it. He let you in but before he could send a maid to the drawing room or announce your name, a very familiar giggle reached your ears and you turned your head to see Andrew running into the hallway, his arms outstretched so that he could carry Teddy up in the air who swung his legs back and forth, his laughter echoing over the walls.
“Teddy?”
They both turned to you and Teddy gasped. “Y/N! You’re here!”
“I didn’t know you were coming!” Andrew said as he put Teddy down so that he could rush to hug your legs. You crouched down and hugged him tight, pressing a kiss on top of his head.
“What are you doing here?”
“We’re playing a game, Andrew is the ship and I’m steering him to find Bess and Josie, they’re hiding!”
“Did I hear—?” Bess stepped into the hallway and her jaw dropped. “Aw Y/N is here! Welcome!”
“Hello little Clover,” Andrew said and pressed a kiss on your cheek, making you smile. “Jo didn’t tell us you were coming.”
“She didn’t know either,” you said and hoisted Teddy up so that he could hug you like a koala. Andrew tilted his head.
“Aren’t you supposed to uh…”
“What?”
Bess stole a look at Teddy before clearing her throat. “Enjoying the day after your wedding?”
“Does this mean I won—Clover?” Josie said as she entered the hallway as well. “What are you doing here?”
You pulled your brows together. “What, I can’t come to visit now that I’m married?”
“No one is saying that!” Bess said quickly and linked her arm with Josie’s to squeeze at her hand. “We’re always happy to see you.”
You winked at her. “You’re the only person who treats me well in this house.”
“Hey!” Josie and Andrew both protested at the same time and you tickled Teddy’s sides, making him giggle.
“Did you miss me?”
“Yes!” he said. “But Auntie said you’d probably be busy today.”
You hummed. “Change of plans,” you said. “I figured we could all go to the park, how does that sound?”
“Yes please!” Teddy said and you kissed his cheek, then put him down. He approached Josie while Andrew rested his arm on Bess’s shoulder, watching you with raised brows.
“Oh I have a lot of questions,” he said. “When are we going to the park?”
“In an hour or so?”
“That works,” Bess said. “It’s such a beautiful day to spend indoors.”
“Teddy my sweet,” Josie said. “Why don’t you go to your room with Mary to change your clothes? You have been running around for the last hour, I don’t want you to catch cold when we go out.”
“Alright!” he said and a maid curtsied, then led him upstairs. You followed Bess, Andrew and Josie to the drawing room and Andrew flung himself to the armchair and Bess sat down next to Josie on the sofa, entwining her fingers with hers, making you smile.
“So why aren’t you enjoying the marital bliss, exactly?”
“Andrew!”
“What?” he asked. “You’re always welcome but I thought you two would spend the day in bed.”
Oh God damn it.
Of course. It made sense that they would think that. Considering how in love you were supposed to be, everyone was going to think you and Benedict had consummated your marriage last night and that you would both be in…
What was it called again?
Marital bliss.
There was no way you could tell them nothing had happened. It would not fit the lovesick image of you and Benedict.
“Well,” you swallowed thickly. “He had business with his brothers and—and his mother invited me outside.”
Bess and Josie exchanged glances and Josie cleared his throat.
“And…” she trailed off. “Are you alright?”
Andrew scoffed a laugh and turned to look at her.
“She’s married to the man she’s in love with Jo, we didn’t send her off to battle,” he said as a maid brought all of you tea, and you thanked her before getting your cup from the tray.
“Can we not talk about this please?” you asked as the maid left the room and Josie shrugged her shoulders.
“I just want to know whether you’re content.”
“If that bashful look on her face is any clue, I’d say she’s quite content with her husband,” Andrew pointed out and you kicked at his ankle, making him yelp.
“Ouch!”
“Y/N, we just want to make sure you-” Bess thought for a moment. “Enjoyed your wedding night, that is all.”
You buried your burning face into your palms before lowering your hands. “I’m not going to talk about that with you, any of you.”
“I’m your sister!”
“And I’m your brother-in-law and Bess is technically your sister-in-law,” Andrew said. “Who are you going to talk to if not us?”
You shot him a glare. “No one. No one seems like a great option here.”
Andrew took a dramatic breath and sat up straighter.
“We don’t have to know the details,” he said. “Just overall, was it good or not?”
“Josie, make him stop.”
“Answer the question first.”
You would be lying if you said you hadn’t thought or dreamt about that.
Lying with Benedict.
The dream flashed before your eyes, sending a fire over your face. He was incredibly handsome, no one could deny that, and if that kiss when you two were caught was anything to go by, it meant—
It just meant that you were a goddamn fool that was letting some lust cloud your thoughts.
“The second time is going to better by the way,” Andrew added in a haste. “The first time is always quite terrible.”
“Speak for yourself,” Josie pointed out and Bess giggled, holding her hand again as Andrew rolled his eyes.
“It gets so annoying to be around in love people sometimes, you have no idea.”
You scoffed. “Oh I have an idea, don’t you worry.”
“Clover, was it—”
“Yes!” you cut Josie off and let out a breath. “Yes it was good, yes I’m very happy, can we just stop talking about this please?”
Andrew smirked.
“Handsome, romantic and talented in both art and marriage bed, a great combination,” he said, holding up his tea cup, mocking a toast. “To Benedict Bridgerton’s many skills then.”
“Andrew I swear...”
“To happy marriages as rare as they are, and to my sister’s luck in finding one,” Josie held up her own cup and Bess grinned.
“And to many blissful nights and mornings for our Clover.”
“Dear God I hate all of you,” you grumbled, making them laugh and you sipped your tea, then leaned back, trying to ignore the burning in your cheeks.
                                                          *
You had no idea talking with people the day after your wedding night would be this uncomfortable.
For what it was worth, they were quite nice about questioning you. Especially Lady Bridgerton who had only asked you whether you were feeling well on this lovely afternoon with pinkness on her cheeks, and Daphne looked like she had a million questions to ask you but was now promenading with the Duke. Charlotte wasn’t in the park, Eloise had informed you that she had told her she would spend the day with her siblings reading to them, so she wouldn’t be coming.
You were beginning to like having conversations with Eloise more and more. You had spent nearly an hour talking with her and Andrew while Bess and Josie walked around the park, but soon enough Andrew had left to join some friends and Penelope and Eloise had decided to go to the other side of the park, inviting you to go with them. You had said no, promising them you’d join them the next time and walked away from the rest of the crowd, desperate to get your thoughts in order, alone.
You had given the excuse of keeping an eye on Teddy and now you were watching him run around with Gregory and Hyacinth while you sat under a tree, enjoying the sunlight while your thoughts stormed through your mind.
Your wedding night hadn’t been as terrifying as you had thought, and Benedict hadn’t even tried to so much as imply anything or touch you. Though it was supposed to put your heart at ease -and it had a little- you still couldn’t help but wonder…
This was all because everyone kept asking you since the morning, but you wondered for a moment how it would actually feel if you had kissed him again, or perhaps—
Perhaps more.
You shook your head at yourself, trying to snap out of your thoughts before a four-leaf clover caught your eye right where you were sitting. You pulled your brows together and reached out to rip it, then twirled it between your thumb and pointer finger but your eyes snapped up when you heard someone clear their throat.
Benedict.
You tried to ignore the way your heartbeat got faster at the sight of him and he shot you a small smile, then motioned beside you.
“May I?”
“Sure,” you said. “I didn’t know you were coming.”
“Neither did I,” he said as he sat down next to you and stole a look at the clover in your hand. “Is that a four leafed one?”
“Mm hm.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those.”
“I keep finding them, Josie says I have a gift.”
“Is that why she calls you Clover?”
You nodded and extended your hand, still holding it.
“There,” you said. “You can keep it, for luck.”
Benedict shot you a smile as if you were giving him a precious artifact rather than some simple flower, and took it from you to carefully place it in the pocket of his waistcoat.
“Thank you.”
You shrugged your shoulders, seeing Colin approach Miss Marina while Anthony made his way through the crowd, no doubt to join his friends. Teddy caught Hyacinth and bolted away from her as she and Gregory started chasing him, letting out a gleeful laugh.
“Everyone keeps asking me if I’m alright.”
Benedict raised his brows. “And are you?”
You stole a look at him and bit down a smile. “Oh I meant they’re asking because—”
“No I know,” Benedict said, a small smile curling his lips. “I’ve been getting some questions myself.”
“People are asking you if you’re alright?”
“They’re asking me if you’re alright,” he said and you felt your cheeks burn as you averted your gaze from him.
That meant no one knew you two hadn’t really consummated your marriage, but considering how close he was with his family, you still felt the need to ask;
“So you didn’t tell your brothers?”
“No,” he shook his head fervently. “Of course not. Did you tell your sister?”
You shook your head as well. “I figured since we’re pretending to be in love, it’d make sense if we-you know.”
He paused for a moment and cleared his throat. “Right,” he said. “Yeah. I’m beginning to think no one in our lives is subtle.”
“You’re not subtle,” you pointed out and he scoffed.
“And you are?”
“I’m the paragon of subtlety, what are you even talking about?” you asked back, making him chuckle and he held up his hands, gesturing surrender. You bit on your lip to stop your smile, then took a deep breath.
“Well then I suppose I should be the first to ask you,” you said. “Are you alright?”
“Yeah.”
You tilted your head. “Benedict.”
He shot you one of those smiles that made your stomach do a happy flip. “Hm?”
You found yourself grinning despite yourself. “How’s marriage treating you?”
“Hasn’t stabbed me yet,” he pointed out, coaxing out a small laugh from you. “It’s going pretty good so far if you ask me.”
You hummed, trying to adapt a serious look but failing terribly. “Your baseline is rather strange.”
“Maybe,” he admitted. “What about you? How’s marriage treating you?”
You thought for a moment, pulling your brows together.
“It’s um…” you trailed off. “It’s not what I expected.”
“What did you expect?”
You rubbed at your wrist in an absentminded manner, your frown deepening as you tried to find the right words while he waited patiently.
“Just not this,” you ended up saying, and that gentle look appeared in his eyes again.
“I know you don’t trust me yet,” he said after a beat. “But I want you to know that I trust you. Wholeheartedly.”
You blinked a couple of times, that familiar pang tingling in the bridge of your nose and you swallowed the lump in your throat.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” the question came out as a rasp and he shrugged his shoulders.
“I am.”
“Why?”
A soft smile curled his lips and he heaved a sigh.
“I think you know why,” he said. “You’ve known why since the rooftop.”
You stared at him in complete silence, your eyes locked in his and it was only when you heard someone call out your name that you snapped out of it and turned your head.
“Hey lovebirds!” Andrew said. “We’re going to grab something to eat, are you coming?”
Benedict cleared his throat and got up to offer you his hand. You could feel the sparks running through your veins as soon as you placed your hand in his so that he could help you up and both of you paused for a moment before you inhaled shakily, then pulled your hand out of his, missing the warmth of his skin the moment you did so.
“Shall we?” he held out his arm and you forced yourself to focus, then placed your hand on his arm.
“Yeah,” you said, your heart still pacing in your chest. “Sure, let’s go.”

Howl
Werewolf Shanks x gn! Reader
WC: 2k
Warnings: spooky themes, themes of violence. Nothing too crazy though.
You run a bookshop in a town plagued by stories of monsters and demons, not that you believed any of those stories yourself. And then one day, you meet Shanks.
Tumblr media
As a bookseller, you’d read countless stories about creatures of the Night. Seen stories unfold first hand, too. Your grandmother going on a walk through the woods and never returning, your father coming back from a hunt, face pale as death as he informs everyone that something had taken the others.
You had never seen any of this for yourself, of course, never allowed to leave town or walk alone at night. You even doubted that any of these creatures really existed, or if they were just tall tales spread by those who had heard the echoes of animals in the dark and thought they were monsters. People going missing, or were they just tired of living in a town plagued by the deceivable?
You were, you were tired of living the same day to day routine. But you couldn’t bring yourself to leave, your loved ones had died here, you had grown up here. You were chained to a town that held nothing for you, except for countless days of old ladies arguing over a book, like now.
As they argue, you stand behind the counter, fighting the urge to kick them both out or ban them from your shop entirely. Everyday was a monotonous routine in which you were trapped.
Until the bell above the door rings and a man walks in, someone new. Instantly, you feel wary, like something is wrong, but you don’t know what. The feeling only gets stronger as he gets closer.
He grins, all teeth and sparkling eyes. “I’m your new neighbor, Shanks.”
You introduce yourself warily, no one ever comes here. Not even tourists, even though the town’s infamy was known throughout countless places.
“Are you uh, here to buy something?” You ask, after a moment of silence.
The way he’s eyeing you makes you want to shift in your seat, but you don’t. Shanks just smiles.
“Just introducing myself, you’re the only one that’s talked to me so far.”
And although that wary feeling is still there, you smile back, and his grin only gets wider.
***
The man, Shanks, is strange. He drops by almost every day, only being gone a few days out of each month, for business, he tells you. You grow accustomed to his presence, and it becomes stranger for you to not see him at all than it does the opposite. You begin to fall in love with him.
He loves to help around the shop, especially when he can reach the shelves you can’t, almost preening when you thank him for it.
Right now, he’s sitting on the other side of the counter, head resting on his arms as he watches you price the new shipment of books.
“I’ll be going to the city for a week or two,” he tells you, “you should come with me.”
You pause for only a moment, but shake your head and continue. “I’ve never left town, you know that.”
“Why not? If you don’t believe in the stories, then nothing should stop you from leaving.”
You sigh heavily. “Shanks, it’s complicated. Who would look after the shop when I’m gone? It’s too much stress.”
He kisses your forehead. “You’re right, I’m sorry. Maybe some other time, yeah?”
You can tell he’s upset, even if he's apologetic about frustrating you, and that alone makes you want to go with him, but you don’t.
You do go see him off the next morning, a thermos full of coffee in your hand for him.
He grins. “Well, I’m glad you decided to see me off.”
“I can’t let you be deprived of my visage for too long, I know you love it.”
Shanks snorts. “Ha! More like you couldn’t bear to go without seeing me one last time.”
You pull him into a hug and he buries his face into your neck, like he usually does. He kisses your forehead and then sets off.
***
The next few days go by without incident. Customer, shelve books, customer, shelve books. You have to get the step ladder for the ones that you can’t reach. You hate it.
You do find yourself missing Shanks more than you thought you would. You figure that it might be because he’s farther away, or that maybe your feelings for him just make that distance feel wider.
And then, you walk upstairs from your shop to your house, and see it. All those years doubting everyone in town, only for those crazy stories to be true.
You don’t know how the creature got into your house, all you know is that its hulking mass is hovering above you, lips curled back to reveal rows of sharp teeth, sharper than any knife you’ve ever seen.
Werewolf, your mind supplies, even through the cloud of fear gripping it. A werewolf, just like the people in town have said. This is it, you’re going to be eaten by a werewolf.
You turn your head away from its gaze, revealing your neck, hoping that easier access to your throat will make death come quicker.
Instead of the jaws wrapping around your throat ready to devour you, you hear a high pitched wine, followed by a furry cheek rubbing against your neck and face.
Gasping in shock you quickly stand up and walk backwards, until you hit a wall, your eyes never leaving the creature in front of you. It whines again, coming closer, head bowed to you in some sort of surrender. You have no idea what the fuck is happening. When the werewolf reaches you again, it pushes you with its nose, trying to move you away from the wall and onto the floor with it.
Deciding that you might as well, lest you piss it off and cause it to kill you, you gingerly sit on the ground next to it. It licks your face happily, and then nudges its head into your neck. You laugh a little.
You wonder why it didn’t eat you, why it's being so friendly with you. You place your hand on its head and stroke its head, watching as its dark brown eyes close in delight.
Those eyes are so familiar to you, yet you can’t place them.
“I guess you aren’t so bad,” you say, “but who are you?”
It just whines again, licking you. It makes you feel kind of…..safe.
“Well, I’m glad you’re not going to eat me.”
It sighs contentedly and lays it head on your lap, falling asleep. You fall asleep like that too.
***
When you wake up, there's an arm around you, pulling you into their warm side.
Immediately your eyes shoot open and you wrestle free, staring into the eyes of Shanks, your neighbor, who happens to be naked. And in the place where the werewolf was.
You turn your head away in embarrassment, but the confusion filling you refuses to fade, even in the face of the man you had come to befriend over the months he had been here.
You open your mouth to say something, to ask a question, to fill the silence, but he cuts you off.
“I’m not having this conversation while I’m naked.”
He stands up, grabbing a nearby blanket to throw over himself. “Just….30 minutes, wait 30 minutes.”
And then he’s gone, leaving your head spinning.
Deciding to keep busy, you make coffee and prepare breakfast, head swimming with everything that happened. Shanks was a werewolf and on any other day, that would’ve made you laugh, but not now. Not after you had come face to face with a creature of the Night and lived.
The familiar three knocks sounded at the door and he entered again, clothed this time.
You watched as he made a plate and sat down across from you at the table.
“Alright,” he starts, “how much do you know about werewolves?”
“Only what I’ve heard from the townsfolk and what I’ve read in books about them, which if you hadn’t seen, isn’t a lot.”
The red haired man sighs. “Well, as you can imagine, I didn’t actually get these scars in a bar fight.”
You listen intently, nodding along.
“I turned a few days later, and I’ve been like that ever since. It's been…years, I think.”
“You were quite cute as a wolf. Very affectionate, too.”
He flushes. “Funny, that.”
“The way you said that makes me think it's actually not very funny at all.”
Shanks tears into a piece of bacon as a response and you glare at him. “Shanks.”
“There is one detail that no werewolf book seems to mention.”
“Spill it.”
He growls in exasperation. “Sometimes, we can become fixated on someone. Scent-marking them, protecting them. Even as wolves, something inside of us recognizes that person.”
“So you’re saying…?”
The red haired man rolls his eyes. “Christ, you’re impossible.”
Shanks pulls you forward and kisses you, he tastes of coffee. You gasp a little into the kiss and he grins, nipping your lip softly as he pulls away.
“I have probably loved you ever since I walked into your bookshop, it was like I had known you my whole life, had known you in my soul.”
“Oh.” And you sit with that for a moment. You think about all the times he’d come into the bookshop for no reason. How many times he had insisted on feeding you or taking his jacket. And then it clicks.
“You motherfucker, you’ve been courting me this whole time.”
Shanks is sheepish, which doesn’t happen often. “Guilty?”
You kiss him a little desperately. “I love you too.”
He lets out a high pitched whine, like it was a reflex. You laugh into the kiss.
“Your doglike qualities do make a lot more sense now.”
“Very funny.”
“I do have one other question, though.”
“Go on.”
You’re playing with his fingers. “You said you were going to the city, but you’re here instead.”
He buries his face into your hair, sighing. “I missed you and when I’m like that, I don’t think. I came here, looking for you. I was desperate to see you, to make sure you were okay. The smell, your smell, is strongest here. And then you actually came inside, and it was like all of my thoughts had transformed into needing to scent you. I do it even as a human.”
“Scent me?”
“Making you smell like me, so the other monsters know not to touch you.”
You feel hot; embarrassed. “Oh.”
“Every time I’m gone for a few days, its to transform, but I hate leaving you. It's why I wanted you to come with me, the farther away you are, the stronger the urge gets and then I commit a felony by breaking into your house.”
“I couldn’t tell you any of that, though,” he continues, “if I’d scared you, or worse, made you angry, I’d never forgive myself.”
You kiss him softly. “I understand. Thank you for telling me.”
Shanks smiles into the kiss. “Thank you.” For accepting me goes unsaid, but you know what he means.
“Next time you leave, I’ll go with you. Anywhere, just say the words.”
“Careful, a promise like that and I’ll keep you by my side forever.” He teases.
“That doesn’t sound too bad.”
“Don’t joke around like that, someone might think you were proposing.”
You roll your eyes. “Maybe in a year or two, unless we’re already married in some wolfy way I don’t know about?”
He grins. “Not unless you want to be.”
“We’ll come back to that later, much later. For now, I’ve got a pile of books that need to be put on high shelves with your name written on them.” You tell him, standing up and stretching, tired of sitting down for so long.
“God, I love you.”
“I love you too.”
You expected his werewolf reveal to be more of a shock, but it made so many things about him make sense, things that you had already loved about him. Maybe one day, you and Shanks would leave this town together, to be happy somewhere else. But that's in the future, and today you are content with Shanks picking you up in his arms and peppering your face with kisses.

for the better | lando norris, pierre gasly
pairing: lando norris x reader, pierre gasly x reader part 6 to better left unsaid (the better series)
you never planned on finding yourself caught between two drivers and you certainly never thought that you'd have to make a choice, but your options aren't lando or pierre...it's them or you
word count: 5.6k tags: bro its just pure raw angst, max is the only real one and i apologize in advance
Tumblr media
It was unnerving how quiet Pierre was the rest of the time you were in the paddock. And he was only quiet towards you. He interacted and spoke with everyone who stopped him and acted as though nothing happened. If you were standing near him, he would still be holding your hand or touching your back, putting on the charade that he hadn’t just caught you leaving the McLaren motorhome in tears.
You couldn’t tell what he was feeling towards you. Was he upset? Disappointed? Frustrated? It was impossible to get a read on him.
Even at the end of the day when you were finally leaving the paddock, Pierre held the passenger door of his car open for you to climb in. You flinched when he shut it harder than required, but maybe you were reading into it too much because you wanted to. You needed something from him.
You would have preferred if he had said something, then you could get an idea as to what was going through his mind based on his tone. But for the first ten minutes of the car ride, Pierre kept his mouth shut.
But he also didn’t reach over the centre console to hold your leg like he had every other time you got into his car. Maybe that was an indication as to what he felt.
It didn’t help that you were still wearing Lando’s sweater. You didn’t have a choice though, it was the only thing that could cover up the mark on your neck. And you knew Pierre wasn’t an idiot, he probably figured out where the jumper came from seeing as you didn’t get it directly from him.
You rested your arm against the inside frame of the car and dropped your chin to your hand, trying to think of what you could possibly say or do that would make things easier right now because this unspoken, heavy tension was eating you alive.
“Can you just say something?” You turned your head to face him. Pierre kept his eyes on the road. He didn’t even glance your way or make any sort of hint that he heard you, which you knew he did.
You continued to stare at him, anticipating what would come out of his mouth, but you didn’t expect to see his grip tighten on the steering wheel. At least that helped you understand him a bit better. He certainly wasn’t happy.
After what felt like an eternity of holding your breath, Pierre shifted against the seat and licked his lips, “What did you want me to say?”
You hadn’t actually thought about that.
You were the one who made the mistake and while you hadn’t been given the chance to explain yourself yet, Pierre hadn’t asked what happened. Either he didn’t want to know or he already had a fairly good idea and didn't want to talk about it.
“I don’t know,” you shrugged, looking out the window again. There was still another thirty minutes until we were back at his place, maybe you should have just waited but you had already opened your mouth so there was no going back now. “I shouldn’t have left Alpine.”
“I agree,” Pierre nodded once but didn’t add anything to that point, leaving you to keep this conversation going.
“He was upset after qualifying I just thought-” were you really trying to defend yourself right now? You switched directions, “My intentions were good, Pierre. I only wanted to check in on him and make sure he was okay.”
Pierre nodded again. Did he get where you were coming from or was this just another attempt to remind you that he didn’t want to talk?
It wasn’t working, clearly.
You were desperate now, “Pierre, I need you to say something.”
“And I needed you to not lie to me,” Pierre spoke so casually, you almost missed the underlying betrayal in his tone. You almost missed the pain in his voice as he called you out.
But you didn't follow, “When did I lie?”
He finally turned his head towards you. Only for a few seconds, but you saw it out of the corner of your eye before he turned back to the road, “When you told me that you wanted me.”
“That wasn’t a lie.”
“Well you can’t have both of us, chérie,” he said, as if that was going to solve all of your problems. “I want to make this work, but I shouldn’t have to fight for your attention.”
And you wanted to give Pierre all of you. You didn’t want to be holding onto Lando anymore, but there was history with him. Years of friendship that was nearly impossible to move on from, even if you thought you could.
“I made a mistake,” you admitted. Again, Pierre nodded. He wouldn’t fight you on that one.
He actually wouldn’t fight with you at all for the rest of the car ride. You gave up on your attempts to have a conversation and decided that it would be best to try again when you got back to the house.
Which meant the rest of the drive was filled with deafening silence. There wasn’t even any music. Just the two of you sitting quietly, waiting with dread for what was to come next.
Tumblr media
It was easier to turn your phone off than try to navigate through any notifications. Fans were throwing out their assumptions left and right, especially since photos immediately surfaced of you leaving McLaren.
But they had no idea what happened. You were still trying to figure it out.
Pierre pulled into his driveway and grabbed his bag from the backseat. You followed him towards the door, but even when you stepped inside, he still didn’t initiate any type of conversation. He just tossed his bag down and headed towards the kitchen to pour himself a glass of water.
You leaned against the island counter and watched his actions, waiting to see if he would in fact say something.
He took a few sips and leaned against the fridge, watching you as well.
More specifically, he was eyeing up the black jumper you still had on.
Pierre finally opened his mouth, “Do I want to know why you’re wearing that?”
With your arms resting on the counter, you glanced down at your hands as if your nail beds were the most interesting things in the world, “Probably not.”
Pierre took another long sip of water. His glass echoed when he placed down on the surface next to him. You held your breath as he crossed his arms over his chest.
“Take it off.”
Your head snapped up, “What?”
“Take the sweater off.”
“Pierre, I-”
“Knowing Lando, he’s probably childish enough to leave some sort of hickey in plain sight,” his eyes dropped to your neck and you involuntarily reached for the collar of the sweater, tugging it up higher. “Just take the jumper off, chérie, let’s see what sort of mark he left on you.”
You froze, unsure if Pierre was just messing with you or not. He seemed so…unbothered? Like whatever move Lando made didn’t mean anything in the long run.
You grabbed the hem of the jumper and slowly peeled it off your body, letting it fall to the ground next to you. Not that it mattered, but you ran your fingers through your hair to smooth it out as you tried not to pay attention to the way Pierre’s gaze focused in on the dark purple bruise.
You couldn’t bring yourself to move as Pierre pushed himself away from the counter. He walked around the island and came to a stop in front of you, grabbing your waist with one hand and pulling you to face him. With his other hand, he gently pushed your hair out of the way, letting it fall down your back.
His touch was so careful as he tilted your chin upwards, his fingers barely grazing your skin as they trailed down your jaw and stopping just below your ear, right where the mark was.
You swallowed as he brushed his thumb over it.
You sucked in a sharp breath as his fingers found a home on the other side of your throat. He didn’t apply any pressure. He could have, but he just left his hand there, reminding you that you didn’t have any control in this conversation right now. You gave up any bit of control the second you left to talk to Lando.
Pierre raised his eyebrows, “Just the one?”
You nodded and he titled your head the slightest bit. His gaze narrowed in on it. You had no idea what was going through his mind. Was he thinking about how you ended up in a position where Lando was able to attach his lips to your neck? Was he wondering how much time you spent with the British driver?
“He’s immature,” Pierre said. “And I don’t like sharing either, chérie, but if you needed a reminder as to who you belonged to, there are other ways.”
“I don’t belong to anyone,” this was the most confident you’ve sounded all day. But if there was one thing you would stand behind, it was the fact that neither of these men had the audacity to claim you.
“No?”
“No,” you were firm. “And weren’t you the one who said I wasn’t a trophy?”
Pierre hummed, but he disregarded your words, his words. “So you don’t belong to Lando?”
“No.”
“And you’re not mine either?”
“I-” your voice caught in your throat. He seemed to like that you were speechless because the corner of lips turned upwards into a smirk.
You wanted to be with Pierre, you knew that much. You wanted to be done with Lando.
“Oh I get it,” Pierre’s hand on your waist slipped, his fingers pressed against your skin and pulled you closer against his body. He dropped his face and hovered his lips right above yours. “You want to be mine, don’t you? But you’re worried that this-” he applied the smallest bit of pressure to the hickey, “-has messed things up for us?”
You nodded because there was no damn way you could say anything anymore. Not as he held your body so tight against his that you could feel his cock being restricted by his trousers. He slid a knee between your legs, spreading them slightly and you relied on the counter behind you for support, knowing your knees could give out at any second.
It was almost impressive how quick this conversation had taken a turn. You were expecting Pierre to lose his temper on you or tell you to get out of his house. You hadn’t expected him to flip a sudden switch and be eyeing you up as if he was about to destroy you.
When Pierre’s phone started to ring from his back pocket, you could see it in his eyes that he just debated letting it go to voicemail.
But he released his hand from your neck and stepped away from you. He barely gave you a second look before answering the phone call and stepping away into a different room.
You felt frozen against the island counter, feeling your heartbeat creep up your throat until it felt like you were going to vomit. You still weren’t sure how Pierre felt about the situation you two found yourselves in but it was safe to say he didn’t want you spending any more time with Lando.
Eventually you shuffled away from the kitchen and curled up into the corner of the couch. You could hear Pierre’s muffled voice from down the hall, but when the sound of a door shutting echoed through the house after a few minutes, you let yourself relax.
You had a bit of time to think things over for yourself, not in the presence of Pierre.
Part of you was worried that it would always be like this. You’d put the effort in with Pierre, or anyone, and then Lando would show up out of nowhere and remind you that you still love him. Unless you made the decision to permanently rid your life of one of your oldest friends, you risked him always ruining your chance at happiness with someone else.
But how were you supposed to do that? How were you supposed to throw away years and years of friendship? You’d lose Max. You’d lose his family. You’d lose so much of your life that he was connected to.
Glancing over your shoulder, you spotted his jumper balled up on the floor.
You had so much of his stuff at your house. So many of his t-shirts, jumpers, miscellaneous items that he just left over time. Lando infiltrated so many parts of your life and even just thinking about starting over without him was difficult.
And what about if you were to continue this relationship with Pierre? He’d want you to come to the races and other events where you’d have to see Lando. He would be impossible to avoid.
If he was going to keep popping up, you’d never move on.
You looked down the hall. The door to the room Pierre was in was still closed. You had no idea how long he’d be on the phone, but maybe that was for the best. What were you supposed to say to him anyway? ‘I do want to be with you but I’m worried that I’ll always love Lando’ ? That wasn’t a conversation he’d want to have, especially during a race weekend.
So you opted for no conversation.
You slid off the couch and quietly made your way down the hall towards the master bedroom. All of your items were in there, your clothes, makeup, skincare. It wouldn’t take you long to pack it all up seeing as this was only supposed to be a weekend trip anyway.
You found your duffle bag and started to throw all of your belongings in, making sure your wallet and passport stayed out. You already had a flight voucher to go home, it would be easy enough to book a seat when you arrived at the airport.
You paused.
Was this really what you were doing? Going home?
It was the easiest choice, there was no arguing that. No matter what, this was going to be complicated and messy and as much as you didn’t want to leave Pierre, staying with him for the rest of the race weekend was undoubtedly going to lead to more chaos.
So yes, you were going home.
You stepped into the ensuite and scooped up the travel sized containers of skin care you had brought. While you were looking at them to make sure you weren’t missing anything, you had completely missed Pierre walking down the hall towards you.
He leaned against the doorframe, eyes landing on your half packed bag before watching you trying to carefully tetris everything in your hand to fit. Pierre crossed his arms over his chest, not saying anything as to not interrupt you.
You made up your mind, you were leaving. Pierre wasn’t going to stand in your way.
When you looked up from your bag, you flinched and clasped your hand to your chest, startled to see Pierre just standing there.
He didn’t ask for an explanation. He didn’t need one, but you felt the need to give him one anyway.
“It’s not-” It’s not you, it’s me? Try again. You swallowed, “I really do like you, Pierre, please don’t think that I don't.”
“You packing your bag tells me otherwise,” he nodded his head towards the edge of the bed where all of your stuff was.
“No it’s not-” you shook your head. Why was this so hard to explain? “It’s not fair to you. None of this is fair. This isn’t how it should be.”
Pierre knew what you meant. Being with someone should be easy, it should be you and them against the world. You weren’t even dating Pierre and already you could feel the weight of all of the external factors crashing in on you.
It was suffocating.
You turned away from him to finish packing, ignoring the way his heavy sigh filled the room.
“Pierre, you should be with someone who can give you everything. There shouldn’t be any doubts, you should be able to trust them with your heart.” You kept your back towards him and spoke just loud enough for him to hear you. Your chest tightened when you heard his footsteps start to approach you slowly. “And that's- that’s not me. I can’t give you that, not when-”
You felt his chest press against your back. Pierre slid his arms around your waist and gently pulled you against him, dropping his chin to press a kiss to your shoulder. He swayed the two of your back and forth slowly and you wished that was enough for you to no longer have any concerns.
You inhaled a quiet breath, resting your hands overtop of his, “I don’t want you to feel like this is a competition but until I’m completely over him, it always will be.”
His stubble against your skin sent a shiver through your body as he nodded, understanding what you were trying to say. But he still didn’t let go.
“Pierre-”
“Shh,” he squeezed you a bit tighter, kissing your exposed skin once more. “Let me have this, Y/N. I don’t know when I’ll get it again.”
God that broke you.
You felt so comfortable in his arms. Your body melted against his perfectly, like they were made to fit with each other.
So you let yourself have this last moment with him, both knowing that it wasn’t going to last. The second he let go, you’d finish packing and be out the door. Away from him, away from Lando and away from this mess you didn’t mean to find yourself in.
You leaned your head back against his shoulder, raising one of your hands to rest against the side of his cheek. Pierre turned his face and kissed the inside of your palm which only resulted in your heart sinking further into your chest.
“You know what the worst part of this is?” You whispered. Pierre softly chuckled in response, probably because he could think of about ten things that could be at the top of that list, but he didn’t try to ponder a guess as to what was running through your head.
“Tell me,” he said quietly, saying it in a way as though he was wanting to take whatever burden you were feeling and put it on his shoulders instead. You didn’t deserve this man.
He had spent weeks after countless weeks becoming your friend, earning your trust and respect. He learned all the ways to make you laugh, how to bring a smile to your face. He wanted to familiarise himself with you and every aspect of your life before stepping into a bigger role.
And the second he had, you ruined it by running right back to Lando.
Pierre kissed the side of your head, encouraging you to finish your thought.
You turned in his arms, placing both of your hands at the back of his neck. Playing with the loose strands of his hair didn’t help, neither did having his bright blue eyes staring right through you, but you had to say this face to face. You needed him to know that whatever you had, however brief, however sudden, was real.
And it wasn’t his fault it wouldn’t last.
You stared at his face, trying to memorise every last detail before your lips parted, a soft exhale escaping. Pierre watched as your tongue poked out to wet your lips and waited, his arms not moving from around your waist, until you painfully admitted what the worst part of all of this was.
“I really think I could have fallen in love with you.”
Tumblr media
There were a few hours until the race started. Lando was walking down the paddock with Max at his side after just having changed into a McLaren polo tee. He had a good morning, or at least that’s what it seemed like to everyone he passed. He wore a bright smile on his face, he was chatty, he was ready for the race.
And he wished the race was the only thing on his mind, it should have been, but every time he caught a glimpse of a girl who looked remotely like you, Lando lost his train of thought. He was using every excuse in the book to leave the McLaren motorhome, just on the off chance he’d see you somewhere in the paddock.
Max caught on pretty quickly, and he tried to remind Lando that you asked for space, but Lando didn’t want to listen. He wanted to find you, talk to you, remind you why you belonged in his life.
“She hasn’t posted anything,” Lando pointed out after looking at your social media pages for the tenth time since waking up this morning. “Usually she posts when she's at a race, why hasn’t she posted anything?”
“Why do you care?” Max rolled his eyes, pulling out his own phone because curiosity got the better of him too. Lando was right, you hadn’t posted anything.
Lando didn’t answer, mostly because he didn’t have a good enough answer. Nothing that would explain why he wanted you here, now, when he knew that if you were here, it would be for Pierre.
“Does she-” Lando felt like an idiot as the thought crossed his mind, but he stopped walking. So did Max and his friend looked at him with his eyebrows raised, wondering what ridiculous question would leave his mouth next. “Does she still share her location with you?”
Max groaned, “Mate, come on.” This was crossing a line. The shared location feature on iPhones wasn’t something to be taken advantage of. It was in case anything happened during a night out, or when one of you got into the back of an uber. It wasn’t so Lando could keep tabs on you.
“She stopped sharing it with me!” Lando explained, as if that made up for wanting Max to check for himself.
“I’m not getting involved.”
“It takes two seconds to check.”
Max slid his phone into his back pocket and held his hands up in defence of his choices, “Why’s it matter? If she’s here, it’s for Pierre.”
“But if she’s not.”
“I think the important takeaway from this is that wherever she is, she’s not with you.”
“Well no shit.”
“No,” Max needed to get the point across more directly. “She’s not in the paddock with you. She’s not watching the race for you. She didn’t tell you where she is and she stopped sharing her location because you don’t need to know, Lando. Y/N said she needed space and you bending over backwards right now, trying to figure out where she is, is not giving her space.”
A young fan wearing a papaya shirt ran up to Lando right as Max ended his speech. He watched as Lando plastered a smile on his face and bent down to the fans level to sign the back of his shirt and answer a few questions, but Max knew that he was only putting on an act.
Lando did love his fans, but he lost you as his biggest supporter. He could sign a thousand autographs and thank hundreds of people for showing up, but at the end of the day, you weren’t there for him.
When Lando stood up again, Max patted him on the back as a type of consolidation.
They walked further down the paddock and if Lando was being honest, he was looking for a way to bring you up in conversation again, but luckily for him, Max was also thinking about you. More specifically, this fucked up situation his two friends were in.
“Why didn’t you do anything earlier?” Max asked, noticing how Lando’s features tensed as soon as he was called out. “I just don’t understand, is all. You waited until Pierre showed interest before doing anything. It was kind of a dick move.”
Lando shrugged his shoulders, earning a smack upside the head from his friend. If he was so adamant on figuring out where you were, the least he could do was explain where the sudden interest came from.
“I don’t know!” Lando exclaimed, shoulders raised nearly to his ears. “I just- I don’t know, Max. I don’t like seeing her with Pierre.”
“Pierre makes her happy.”
“She was happy enough before him.”
Max rolled his eyes. That was such a shitty response. And Lando realised it as soon as the words left his mouth. He sighed, dragging his fingers through his hair.
“She waited for you, Lando,” Max said. He wasn’t trying to hurt his friend, he just needed Lando to know how much he had hurt you. “She waited, got tired of waiting, you missed your shot and now you need to live with that.”
That didn’t sit well with Lando, “But what if she’s supposed to be it for me? What if she’s the right person and I just didn’t see it until now?”
“I think that you asking these questions proves that she isn’t the right person.”
That stung, but Max had a point. There shouldn’t have been any doubt. If Lando loved you the way you once wanted him to, truly loved you, he wouldn’t have taken so long to show it. It shouldn’t have taken him seeing you with Pierre for him to realise his own feelings.
Because that wasn’t love. That was the fear of losing you masked as desire.
Max cleared his throat, “Twelve ‘o’ clock.”
Lando, stupidly, looked at his watch, “It’s half past one.”
“No you idiot,” Max huffed under his breath. “Pierre, headed our way.”
Sure enough, Pierre was walking right in their direction. A pair of black sunglasses sat on the bridge of his nose, but it did little to hide his expression. His lips were pressed into a tight line, his jaw was locked, even his hand seemed to have an unusually hard grip around his phone.
Lando hadn’t even noticed he stopped walking until Pierre was right in front of him.
What was Pierre going to do? Hit him? He wouldn’t cause a scene in the paddock. If he had an issue with Lando, they’d deal with it privately.
But that didn’t mean Pierre was just going to walk by without saying anything.
Max looked between the two drivers and as soon as Lando opened his mouth, Max was already shaking his head, wondering why he had to be the one to speak first.
“You alright?” Lando’s greeting was polite, both men smiled at each other. It was forced, but it was a smile nonetheless and anyone who walked by wouldn’t think twice of it.
“She’s not here, mate.” Pierre told him, knowing that’s what was on Lando’s mind. Pierre had seen Lando’s wandering eyes when he spotted him, curious to know if you were nearby.
“Who?” Lando played dumb. Max, who had already had enough of his childish behaviour, muttered something under his breath about him needing to grow up before stalking off down the paddock, leaving Lando without any back up. Not like he’d provide it anyway.
Pierre chuckled, running his tongue along his teeth, “I was going to tell why she’s not here but if you can’t be bothered to even remember her name then I don’t need to waste my time.”
Pierre wasn’t going to let Lando get to him. Not on the track, not in the paddock, not in his head. Since day one, Pierre had seen the treatment Lando had given you and he wasn’t going to put up with it on your behalf.
He started to walk past him, accidentally, or maybe not so accidentally, bumping his shoulder into Lando’s as he passed. Lando glanced at the contact and then craned his neck to watch Pierre walk away.
He should have let Pierre keep walking.
But Lando just didn’t know when to quit.
“So where is she?” Lando asked. Pierre came to a halt. Lando wouldn’t have been shocked if Pierre ignored him completely, but when he turned around and walked back, Lando stood up a bit straighter, squaring his shoulders and lifting his chin.
Pierre eyed him up, even with the sunglasses on, Lando could see the disapproval.
“She went home, Lando.”
But the weekend wasn’t even over. You left without saying anything to him?
Lando tried not to let that thought bother him. You were allowed to leave without a goodbye, you didn’t owe him anything. “Home?”
“Last night,” Pierre nodded. “Didn’t even let me drive her to the airport. She took an uber.”
Not saying goodbye to him was one thing, but Lando couldn’t understand why you didn’t want to say anything to Pierre either.
“So you-” he didn’t even know what to ask. “You two…it’s- you guys are done?”
Pierre’s jaw tightened, “It appears so.”
“Because of yesterday?”
Pierre laughed. He actually laughed at Lando’s idea that a childish hickey was what ended things.
“Because she’s still in love with you,” Pierre said, because Lando didn’t have the ability to come to this conclusion on his own. “She doesn’t want to be, but she is. And until she gets over your self-absorbed ass, she figures it’s better to be alone.”
Lando should have been overjoyed at this news. You loved him. That’s what he wanted. He didn’t want you with anyone else.
But you were gone. Pierre was right, you didn’t want to love him. You didn’t leave Pierre and go straight to Lando, you went home. You wanted to put distance between yourself and him, you were ready to put him behind you.
Pierre could see the gears grinding in Lando’s head. He could tell he was already thinking about ways to reach out to you after the race, how long a flight to London would take. Pierre pulled his sunglasses off and tucked them into his shirt, shaking his head at the younger driver.
“You don’t love her,” Pierre stated. It wasn’t a question, it was a fact. One that Lando wanted to ignore. One that you had hurt you time and time again.
“I could.”
“It doesn’t work like that,” the Frenchman stepped closer. “You should have realised how important she was earlier. You had every opportunity to love her, to cherish her, to be the man she wanted you to be and you did nothing. In fact, you waited until she was starting to move on to finally do something and even then, Lando, you still didn’t love her.”
It was easier to pretend that everything Pierre was saying was for his own benefit, but Lando couldn’t disregard the painful truth behind his words.
“You don’t know the type of relationship we have,” Lando tried to argue. “She’s my best friend. I know what’s good for her, what she needs-”
Pierre instantly cut him off, “What she needs is for you to let her go.”
“Why?” Lando scoffed. “So you can swoop in? Save the day?”
“I already tried that,” Pierre chuckled, but his laugh was bitter and cold. Nothing about this was funny. “Or did you already forget about the night at the club?”
Lando stayed quiet. If he could do anything, it would be to go back in time and redo that entire night.
“But here’s the thing,” Pierre started off, his gaze not dropping from Lando. “Y/n doesn’t need saving so the fact that you think she does says a lot.”
He shook his head. This conversation was coming to a close and Lando had contributed nothing beneficial to it.
“Just do her a favour and let her move on,” Pierre’s tone wasn’t demanding, but Lando could tell there wasn’t room to counter his words. “Stop giving her false hope, stop getting in the way, stop making her think the only role in her life that matters is yours. The only person she should be worrying about is herself and for years you’ve been too selfish to let that happen. Let. Her. Go.”
Pierre slid his sunglasses back on his face and turned around, not giving Lando the chance to get the last word in.
Lando couldn’t understand how Pierre was so unphased by your decision to leave before the race. He couldn’t comprehend how Pierre could let you leave so easily without so much as a fight.
But that was the difference between the two drivers. Pierre was right, Lando had always been selfish whereas Pierre knew the only option was to let you go. If one day you wanted to return to one of them, that would be your choice to make.
The only question now was would that day ever come? Or would Lando be left wondering about the what-if’s for a change? Would Pierre be left debating if he made the right choice by not trying to change your mind?
Whether you meant to or not, you had an impact on both of their lives. Pierre’s was sudden and fast and you were gone just as quick as you arrived. But you were there long enough for it to now feel wrong that you weren’t.
And Lando didn’t appreciate what he had until it was too late. You were a constant in his life and in the blink of an eye, he lost you. He knew how important you were, how amazing you were and he let you slip right through his fingers.
They both had to come to terms with the fact that you weren’t theirs. You might never be.

Meet Cute
Tumblr media
Author's Note: This is my first attempt at playing around with AI co-authoring, with maybe 75% either being my own work or a heavy rewrite of the suggestions. It's a very crude and ugly little bit smut, but felt good enough to share it. Any stories I do share in the future that use AI for more than editing and brainstorming will be noted as such!
Sarah was so deeply focused on her homework, she didn't notice the man sitting across from her until he started talking.
"You know, girls as cute as you shouldn't need to study so hard," his voice cracked as he wheezed out the words.
Sarah could feel her whole body tense up. This guy had been bugging her all week, pestering her with inane chatter about anime and hentai. She just wanted to be left alone. She looked up at him, glaring at the overweight and unbathed lump sitting at seat on the other side of the table. Her almond eyes narrowing into slits, barely able to keep herself from screaming at him.
"I suggest you focus on your own life, buddy," she snapped back, her tone sharper than a knife.
The weeb recoiled slightly, but only for a pause. After a moment of stuttering, he seemed to regain his undeserved confidence. With a slightly unhinged smile, he launched into another speech about some obscure anime series.
"Like in Duko-Duko Magica?" he continued, completely ignoring Sarah's protest. "The One-Chan; doesn't have to worry about school, her master just puts a replica of her in class so no one suspects she's off having adventures!"
His tone was that of a father trying to explain a storybook to a toddler. This man wasn't talking to Sarah, but down to her. Even without his hunched posture, Sarah suspected she'd still be taller than this dork.
Was he wearing the same, sweat-stained anime t-shirt from yesterday, when he first tried to corner her in the library? Sarah was nearly sure of it, but wouldn't put it past this loser to have multiple outfits that were plastered with girls making faces with their tongues out...
"It's an 'Ahegao' pattern," the man said leaning forward. Sarah had unexpectedly zoned out, staring at him. " Though you know that already, being Japanese! It's actually the 'Mind-Break Ahegao' edition," he continued pointing at his chest. "Limited drop!"
Sarah felt lightheaded and frustrated. She couldn't believe how persistent and presumptive this guy was. While her family was from Japan, she'd never been herself and had never watched anime.
"Listen, I don't want to talk about this anymore," Sarah finally said, her voice trembling with impatience. "Can you just leave me alone?"
The man's face contorted into a mask of disbelief. "But we're having such a fun conversation!" he whined.
Sarah was done with this loser and his racist shit. She started to collect her things, packing them up to escape this annoying prick.
Out of the corner of her eyes, she noticed the man shifting in his chair, looking around nervously. His nerves coming back.
"It's not supposed to take this long..." he muttered to himself. "'Instant changes' is what the site said..."
Sarah paused, confused and oddly concerned by his change in demeanor. She hated this guy from the moment she set eyes on him, yet now she felt some irrational empathy.
He seemed like a pathetic loner, desperate for human connection that he would cling onto anything within reach. That desperation reminded her of her own loneliness, amplified by being a minority in an overwhelmingly white campus.
As he mumbled under his breath, she found herself glancing at his shirt again. The lewd drawings were unsettling, especially since they appeared to be moving - pulsing faintly with each heartbeat. Suddenly, a wave of vertigo washed over her. She struggled to sit upright, feeling dizzy and disoriented. Was it the late hour? Or perhaps something in the air?
Maybe it was too close to the radiator and there was something wrong with the heating system, because she suddenly felt incredibly warm and light-headed. Her hands, which moments ago held tightly onto her books, loosened their grip. She stared blankly at the book covers sprawled before her on the table. In that hazy state, she realized that they depicted scenes from Japanese folklore, images that once alien to her were now strangely familiar. It was like she remembered childhood memories of hearing these stories told by her grandmother during bedtime.
Sarah closed her eyes with surprise at the vivid imagery she saw in her mind.
"Hey, are you ok?" The man leaned toward her, concern etched into his previously obnoxious expression. "Maybe you should get some rest."
"No, I'm fine," Sarah assured him, opening her eyes wide. "Just tired, I guess."
The man nodded sympathetically. "You've been working too hard. Exchange students have it the toughest."
"I'm not..." Sarah began to protest and stopped herself. She wasn't an exchange student, was she?
Sarah thought to herself, her grip tightening around her textbooks. But then why do I feel this strange sense of familiarity? She wondered if she had simply forgotten her heritage due to spending her entire life in America. Maybe her mother spoke tales of Japanese myths during her childhood, stories that somehow lodged themselves deep enough inside her brain to surface now.
"Are you sure you're doing alright?" He asked, peering at her intently. Sarah was taken aback by her sudden attraction to his soft brown eyes. They were full of genuine concern, a stark contrast to his previous arrogant attitude.
For a brief moment, Sarah considered sharing her confusion with him. Yet, she hesitated, fearing that he might exploit her vulnerability. Instead, she simply replied, "Yeah, I'm good. Just need to take a break." She stood up abruptly, hoping to end the conversation. However, as she did, a sharp pain coursed through her legs, causing her to stumble. Mark caught her quickly, his firm grip steadying her. Sarah blinked, surprised by his unexpected gentleness.
"Maybe you should sit down. You look exhausted," he suggested softly.
Sarah looked up at him. Just a few moments ago she'd assumed he was about her height but now he towered over her, looking almost manly in spite of his flabby shape.
Something was happening to her. Sarah didn't fully understand it, but if felt like gravity itself had shifted. The whole world seemed a bit taller, and this man's touch felt like a life preserver she needed to cling to.
"This is... This is all wrong." Sarah breathed out, trying to keep from fainting.
A hungry smirk crawled over the man's face, once that filled Sarah with strong revulsion. She yanked herself back.
"What... what are you doing to me?" she stumbled, catching herself on the table. Sarah felt a strange sensation in her head, this was beyond exhaustion. Sarah managed to ask, her voice trembling.
Mark maintained a deceptively calm composure, though beneath his outwardly collected exterior, he felt ecstatic. He had finally found someone who understood his passion for anime and accepted him.
"Nothing much," Mark responded nonchalantly. "Just trying to help you relax, that's all." "Relax?" Sarah scoffed incredulously.
" Relax? What kind of sick game are you playing with me?"
His face fell, his eyes widening innocently. "Sick game? No way, Sarah. You know me, I'm Mark. We bonded over our love for anime..."
"Oh yeah?" Sarah retorted sarcastically. "And what makes you think I'd enjoy something so... so ridiculous?"
Mark faltered for a moment, looking hurt. "Well, you seem pretty stressed out..." Mark trailed off quietly, swallowing the last of his words.
Anger boiled up inside Sarah, threatening to overwhelm her resolve. "Stressed?" she spat, unable to contain her fury. "How dare you insinuate that you can read my mind? That you can even begin to comprehend my feelings?"
Her voice shook with anger, and she took a step backward, away from him. Mark's gaze followed her every movement, his eyes flickering between sadness and determination.
"I-I'm serious..." she couldn't focus on his face. As much as she wanted to scream, looking at him seemed to diffuse the anger. She didn't want to hurt him, she wanted him to be happy. It was her place to make him happy... "You're just becoming more _you_" he comforted her, and Sarah couldn't help but nod in agreement. This tall, sweet man was just trying to help a confused exchange student. How could she ever have been so rude to him?
Sarah felt ashamed and guilty, wishing she could turn back time and apologize. Instead, she stood frozen on the spot, her heart pounding against her chest. "Mark, please forgive me," she whispered, her voice cracking in despair. "I didn't mean to lash out at you. I'm just scared and confused right now..."
Mark gazed at her with tender compassion, silently acknowledging her apology. "Don't worry about it, Sarah," he reassured her gently. "I understand that you're going through a lot right now..." Mark spoke in a soothing voice, reaching out to lightly touch
Sarah's arm. Sarah felt a shockwave of pleasure ripple through her body. "But I promise you, everything will be okay. We'll find a way to make things better."
Sarah swallowed hard, her throat parched and dry. "I just don't... I don't feel like myself anymore," she confessed, her voice breaking. "I feel like I'm losing control. My thoughts are jumbled, and I can't remember..." Sarah said weakly, feeling increasingly vulnerable.
"You're just remembering who you truly are, deep down," Mark murmured, his fingers tracing gentle patterns on her arm. "You're not just a diligent student, Sari-chan."
Sarah tried to resist, but his gentle touch felt too inviting. "What are you talking about?" she whispered hoarsely. "I'm Sarah. I-I don't know you at all. You're doing something to me. You drugged me or something..."
Sarah winced thinking of what he said. "Sari-chan", the nickname feeling alien and foreign on her tongue. Still, she couldn't deny the strange sense of comfort it brought her. It made her want to lean closer to Mark, basking in his warmth and safety.
"Let's just sit here for a moment, shall we?" Mark coaxed, leading Sarah to sit with him on the cold stone floor. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, offering her a comforting embrace.
"Mark-san." Sarah said, her voice seeming oddly light and girly. "What did you do to me?"
Mark's arm wrapped around her, slyly cupping her breast as he comforted her.
"You're just remembering who you truly are, deep down," he murmured, his fingers tracing gentle patterns on her arm.
Sarah gasped, her body jolting involuntarily. "What are you doing?" she cried out, instinctively attempting to push his hand away.
"Shh, Sari-chan," Mark hushed her, tightening his grasp around her waist. "There's nothing to be afraid of." Mark whispered into Sarah's ear, his hot breath sending goosebumps down her spine. "I'm only trying to help you. To bring back your true self."
"My true self?" Sarah repeated, feeling a strange mixture of apprehension and excitement welling up inside her. "Who am I really, Mark?"
With a soft chuckle, Mark pulled Sarah closer, pressing her body against his. "You're Sari-Chan. You're the beautiful Japanese girl who's too in love with me to ever say anything." Mark said, his voice sounding confident and dominant.
Sarah felt a surge of arousal course through her veins. The idea of being a submissive Asian woman enthralled her. She'd spent years suppressing her true desires—the longing for a powerful, protective man to guide her every move. Now, it was like the floodgates had opened, uncovering buried fantasies she'd never allowed herself to explore.
"Why...? Why you want girl like Sari-chan?" Sarah asked, her voice quivering uncontrollably. "Mark-san is big and handsome American..."
Sarah's own brain betrayed her, her memories of home being replaced with fuzzy memories of cherry blossoms and Japanese villages. Images that weren't hers but now seemed to be part of her deepest self swam in her mind.
"Sari-chan, you're ready to show yourself to everyone, aren't you?" Mark whispered seductively, his hot breath tickling Sarah's neck.
"Oh yes, Mark-san," Sarah whimpered, feeling an odd sense of liberation. "I'm ready to be yours forever."
Mark smiled triumphantly, stroking Sarah's silky hair. "That's my girl," he murmured approvingly.
"I knew you could do it. I could see it in your eyes."

Admittedly, it was very rare for you and the Winchesters to ever really cross paths accidentally; whenever you worked a job together it was done so on purpose, and often arranged in advance so that you knew where to stay and what was going on.
But this time was different, as a small rural village in pretty much nowhere had been plagued with stories of a werewolf, and you didn’t have time to contact the Winchesters about it before they were bursting into your motel room together dressed as priests.
It made you want to laugh, really, but when they started asking about work, you could only shake your head as you held up your palms.
“Boys, boys!” You shouted, trying not to grin. “Settle down already, I’ve only just got here, alright?”
Carefully, Dean sat on your bed as he folded his arms across his chest; Sam leaned against the wall mimicking his brother’s posture, which made you sigh as you gently tapped your thighs. Unable to keep your eyes off of Dean as you swallowed thickly.
“So, what’d you know?” Dean asked, almost impatient as he raised his brows and stared directly at you.
You shook your head, chewing at the inside of your lip. “Honestly? Pretty much fuck all at this point. You?”
“About the same,” Dean agreed with a curt nod, his gaze dropping to your mouth for a moment before he awkwardly cleared his throat. “Sammy? Could you, erm, could you go grab somethin’ to eat while we talk?”
“Yeah, sure,” Sam said slowly, looking between you and Dean for a moment before leaving.
“Quit lookin’ at my mouth,” Dean told him, resting his forearm on his knee and glaring at you. “Now ain’t the time.”
You sighed as you chewed at the inside of your mouth. “Oh, so it’s my fault that you decided to dress up as the only attractive priest on the planet?”
He shrugged. “What about that guy, erm… Andrew whatever?”
“He’s not attractive,” you scoffed. “But seriously, it’s just nothing, just… you look really good right now and, yeah! It’s a little bit distracting!”
Dean laughed softly as he shook his head fondly; he could have said the same about you with your old band t-shirt and matching hoodie, camouflage cargo trousers and beaten up brown boots.
He really could have said the same about you, given how you kept biting your fucking lip and how you were sat with your legs spread; he hardly growled as he swiped his hand down his face, swallowing thickly.
He couldn’t take his eyes off of you, his breath hitching in his throat as he tried - in vain - to take his eyes away from your mouth for even just a quick moment. He narrowed his eyes slightly, thinking about the last time you were in a motel together alone.
He almost gave up, until you shifted in your seat and grunted under your breath - it almost immediately drew his attention directly to you.
“Dean!” You almost shouted, making him blink quickly before shaking his head in shock. “Let me guess - suddenly you’re distracted, too, right?”
He nodded slowly, clearing his throat awkwardly as he rubbed his mouth. “Yeah, erm… yeah. Sorry.”
You shook your head, taking in a deep breath as you tried to steady and steel your nerves. “So what the fuck do we do? We can’t… how the fuck are we meant to go hunting if we can’t even sit in a room together?”
“I can get changed,” he murmured. “Dump the whole Father Brodén schtick and find something else. Maybe, erm… I think I got an Agent Taylor or somethin’ stashed away somewhere, I don’t-”
“No,” you said softly, quietly. “No, you don’t need to do that - I’ll, I’ll sit this one out, do base research from here.”
Dean shook his head, running a hand through his hair. “No, I can’t let you do that. You were here first, this is your hunt.”
“Dean,” you sighed. “We can’t do shit if we’re like this. You know that, and I know that.”
“So what do we do?” He asked, furrowing his brows.
“Well, Sam’s out,” you mused, pursing your lips for a moment. “I’m sure we could, erm, y’know… lock the door, keep the window shut and erm… let loose, don’t you think?”
Dean seemed to consider it, swallowing thickly as he shifted where he sat for a moment. “Conflict of interest.”
“Hmm?” You furrowed your brows as you frowned.
“There’s you and me,” he started, “we don’t see each other often, you know the life - think we can even work together if we’re… lettin’ loose all the time?”
You shrugged, clasping your hands together between your legs as you swallowed thickly. “I’m willing to give it a shot, are you?”
“Yeah,” he murmured, rubbing the back of his neck. “I would be… c’mere a sec, though.”
You got up, your legs a little shaky as you walked over to him, surprised when he pulled you down onto his lap, licking his lips and grinning; you put your hands on his shoulders, eyeing up the white collar around his neck for a moment.
“You should dress as a priest more,” you breathed out, taking a moment to stare at his lips.
Dean nodded, shifting his hips so that you were right on him. “Noted. You should wear that tight shirt more.”
You squeezed his shoulders a little, breath hitching in your throat. “Noted.”
You couldn’t help it, one hand going to his hair and the other at the nape of his neck as you caught him in a quick kiss; immediately, Dean kissed back, grunting softly when you tugged at his hair gently to pull him closer.
The kiss became open mouthed and heavy, making you squirm a little when you pulled away, looking at how shiny and plump his lips were for a moment.
“Dean…”
“I’m gonna take my shoes off,” he whispered. “And then I’m gonna lie down - you gonna join me?”
“Well, fuck it” you breathed out, laughing for a second. “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.”
