i wore foundation makeup nearly every day from the age of thirteen because people made fun of my acne and it became a cycle of smothering it on and making my skin even worse as the bullies continued to laugh at everything i did…… feeling like not doing that all the time took me about eight or nine years to internalize because being tormented at a formative age into doing something you convince yourself is for the best does weird stuff to your cognitive processes

#I finally know how to take care of it properly and part of that is the surge of gentle products for sensitive skin #I still have the occasional bump but they’re not big and cystic and painful anymore #like they were when i was a teen #to be fair i went on hormonal birth control for a couple years #and that’s when it started getting better #but I stopped #and i’m doing fine #i’m not glowing like a celebrity with pro dermatologists or anything but i don’t feel ashamed of myself

i went to a tiny counterserve diner once and accidentally poured sugar instead of salt all over my hashbrowns and was eating them sadly anyways. the waitress took them away and started making me another one and I tried to protest, but she just snorted and said "we're not catholic here". now every time i'm doing something painful out of obligation i think about how that is not repenting, this body is not a catholic establishment, there is no nobility in suffering.
