At some point I want to more thoroughly address the fact that there's no way that dealing with the gods is anything but enormously triggering for Percy as an abuse survivor.

Every so often I stumble across fics that address Percy's disrespect in a 'you Cannot talk to the gods that way' sort of manner. Which is super interesting in theory, because it's true, it's incredibly dangerous and it's really the only time he openly leans on his father's favor. But I can't enjoy any of them because none of them address [what I see as] clear ties to his personal history. It's usually just 'do better before you die,' or worse, 'gods are innately deserving of respect and you are wrong.'

Just once I'd love to see both. For Percy's trauma to be respected and acknowledged as an important contributor to his reckless behavior, and for that recklessness and (occasionally unfair) behavior to be addressed in a way that doesn't disregard that.

'Do favors for the gods because they'll smite you' is really, really not that far from 'do favors for the gods because they'll hit you.'

I want to be safe

and I don't mean "safe from physical and mental harm" (although that would be nice), I mean...I want to be safe.

I want anyone who sees me to know that it's okay to stand next to me, or talk to me, or ask for my help with something.

I want anyone who knows me to see that I won't judge them, won't act harshly towards them when they're feeling vulnerable.

I want to radiate all of the kindness and validation that I never had; I want to encourage and comfort and share, and I want people to see in me something that makes them feel...safe.
