This whole "Garth Brooks is a liberal sellout" thing is so funny because it couldn't be more untrue. It shows how dumb conservatives are.
Garth has a song released in 1992. 1992. That says people will ONLY be free once everyone is equal, despite their sexuality or class or race or religion. Only once all that is truly equal-once we see the beauty within and money doesn't talk and we are free to love as we choose and worship in any pew- and no child cries for food and our oceans are clean again and there are no homeless people
Only then will we have freedom.
And anyone calling him a sellout may have heard that song, but never, ever listened to the words and the true feeling behind them.
Garth is staying true to himself. He is saying "I'm selling Bud Light and if you disagree, you are an asshole and we do not want your business." It is perfectly Garth. They're just mad he's not bending over backwards for them like Farve did(Farve was the star qarterback of my childhood)
Garth was the soundtrack of my early years. My parents loved 80s/90s country. I grew up on it and Garth was my favorite from toddlerhood until I found Taylor Swift in 5th grade. I remember VHS tapes of recorded tours and Mom playing CDs from the computer to help me sleep. Love for Garth feels almost coded in my DNA. It's not always present but it's always in the back. I would die to get him on Spotify. But for now, I did a 30 day free trial on Amazon Music to give him some support.
The music feels like home.

Allie Colleen
Who Allie Is
By Dave Parsons
For a new recording artist like Allie Colleen, it can be tough just getting started. You travel all over the map, anywhere they want you to play, paying your dues and finding your audience. You end up playing at far off places like the Marshall County Fair in Moundsville, WV, which is where we caught up with her.
“I got a job, which was an artist as an acoustic act first,” Allie Colleen explained to me before the show. “That was easy because you just played what people wanted to hear. You played what they wanted to sing along to. That's what you did. It was easy and it was very cool. It taught me a lot about singing, but I didn't learn about what I wanted to do on that stage until I got the people behind me to do it, and to really get that guitar out of my hand. I got to start singing like: What does Allie perform like? What Allie likes to sing…”
Tumblr media
This self-knowledge helps the audiences to get an idea of Allie’s music as well, which is outlaw country. She continued explaining – often speaking in the third person – how her knowledge of herself opens her music up to others.
“I feel like just knowing Allie as an artist, the album that we do have out shows you exactly who and what she is as a songwriter, which I'm very proud of,” Allie says. “Going forward, these songs like ‘Halos and Horns’ that we have out of singles for people to check out, [that] is what I wait for all night in that set. it gets to be Allie. Whether she absolutely kills it and it's a success or if she crashes and burns, it's nobody but Allie.”
Allie sounds like 1,000 other singer songwriters in Nashville, who come to town with a dream, and pockets of songs that are like their children. In her case, though, she is a little different. She has a dad that has sold 183 million albums in his career. Allie Colleen is the youngest of Garth Brooks’ three daughters, but you won’t hear covers of his music in her show.
Tumblr media
“It's been really amazing because a lot of the shows I hear ‘I heard from a friend of a friend who you were, that's why I came. But I heard your music and liked it and now I'm just here for Allie,’” she explains. “The conversation ends exactly where I would want it to. I'm not ever mad or upset in any way about how people find out about my music, who I am, or what it is. But you're going to leave being an Allie fan. That is the goal.”
It's a worthy goal. However, she does realize that her father’s reputation can color what the audience assumes of her.
“I sometimes get anxious that it also brings an expectation,” Allie says. “We're nothing similar. I mean, we're the same exact person when it comes to dad and daughter. I'm him 100 %. But when you look at two artists, we don't really do the same thing. I don't care what brings you to my show, but please come with a desire to learn who Allie is.”
Tumblr media
The folks in Moundsville learned who Allie is as she took the stage. Opening with “Smoke Show” and following with a cover of the JoDee Messina hit “I’m Alright,” the crowd was listening and receiving the 17-song set Allie Colleen offered. Explaining most of the songs before she performed them gave a deeper understanding what she was trying to say as an artist. The story behind “Make Me A Man” showed her heart for family. The intro and delivery of a song not yet recorded called “While We’re Still Friends,” had her and the audience in tears.
The delivery of “Halos and Horns” was delivered with a deep passion for the material. Even the cover of “Strawberry Wine” that closed her set sounded new given a slightly different arrangement.
Overall, the 90-minute show at the fair was time well spent for those in attendance, and getting to hear an artist do almost their entire debut CD is a treat, particularly when you are offered the meaning behind those songs as well. I’m very sure that Allie reached her goal in Moundsville. The audience left knowing who Allie Colleen is.
Setlist: Smoke Show / I’m Alright / Don’t Give Your Heart To A Cowboy / Plain’ House / Blame it On The Weather / Fallin’ / Feels Like / Stones / Pink Lemonade / Make Me A Man / Tattoos / Blame It On The Wine / While We’re Still Friends / Halos and Horns / Sex On Fire / Rolling Stone / Strawberry Wine

Cody Johnson & The Rockin' CJB Live
So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would like to talk about the latest album from Cody Johnson. The new album is titled "Cody Johnson & the rockin' CJB Live" and was released on Friday December 2nd, 2022. There are 2 discs with 27 tracks on the new project.
But this album will cover a lot of the songs from the career of Cody Johnson. So we will won't talk about his career before we dive into the new CD. But let's divide this into the 2 new discs. Part one features songs like "Honky tonk hardwood floors", "With you I am", & "Wild as you. Other songs I think you should check out are "Ride with me", "Diamond in my pocket", "Stronger", & "Longer than she did". Here is the track list for part one.
Part One.
COJO Nation (Intro).
Honky Tonk hardwood floors.
With you I am.
Wild as you.
Ride with me.
Dance her home.
Diamond in my pocket (Intro).
Diamond in my pocket.
God bless the boy (Cori's song).
Half a song.
Stronger.
Me and my kind.
Longer than she did.
Here we will talk about Part two . Songs we will talk about are "I don't know a thing about love" which is Conway Twitty's, "Nothin' on you", & "Let's build a fire". His big hits are also included like "Human", "'Til you can't", "On my way to you", & "Dear rodeo" with doesn't feature Reba McEntire. Cody had a hand in co-writting 6 tracks from the project. Eric Pasley, Matt Stell, Vince Gill, Chris Janson, & Charlie Daniels also had a hand in co-writting as well. Here is the rest of the track list for Part two now.
Part Two.
I don't know a thing about love.
Nothin' on you.
Son of a ramblin' man.
Let's build a fire.
Human (Intro).
Human.
'Til you can't.
Long haired Country Boy (Intro).
Long haired Country Boy.
The rockin' CJB Solos.
On my way to you (Intro).
On my way to you.
Dear rodeo (Intro).
Dear rodeo.
And that's a wrap for the track list. There is no stand out track in my opinion from this cd. But I would give this album a 3.75 stars out of 5 stars. It's not a bad thing that doesn't have a stand out song, but it does feel like a live concert. It is a good album overall but feels like a Garth Brooks live kind of album. If you are a fan of Country Music right now or Cody Johnson, you should pick up or listen to this new project. Thanks for taking the time to read this review. See ya all next time.

National Enquirer, December 28
You can buy a copy of this issue for your very own at my eBay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/bradentonbooks
Cover: Ghislaine Maxwell scandal explodes
Tumblr media
Page 2: George Clooney was rushed to the hospital after rapidly dropping 28 pounds to play an ailing astronomer in his latest movie The Midnight Sky and the harrowing incident has infuriated worried wife Amal Clooney -- George’s scare came when he was diagnosed with life-threatening pancreatitis days before he was scheduled to start filming on a glacier in Finland -- Amal was unhappy and angry that he put his health on the line for the role and she was also furious because this wasn’t the first time the father of her twins has been in harm’s way and she’s demanding he take better care of himself so he’ll be around to care for his kids
Page 3: Lori Loughlin’s deluded daughter Olivia Jade Giannulli is clueless over the college admissions scandal that landed her parents in jail and believes her own hype according to a body language expert -- in an interview on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk Olivia claimed she had no idea posing for pictures on a rowing machine to finagle a crew scholarship to the University of Southern California despite never having practiced the sport was deceitful but body language expert Susan Constantine said Olivia doesn’t appear to have any understanding of the consequences of her actions or those of mom Lori and dad Mossimo Giannulli -- after observing Olivia’s confession Constantine said she didn’t notice any deceptive indicators such as pauses in her speech or shrugging of her shoulders however she labeled Olivia completely unequivocally oblivious which she said made it challenging to judge Olivia’s truthfulness
Page 4: Lonely Diane Keaton is longing for love and she’s turned to former flame Jack Nicholson for help in landing a new guy -- Diane is truly desperate to find a man and she knows if there’s one person who can help her navigate the dating scene after all this time it’s Jack -- the Oscar-winning actress shocked the world when she recently admitted she hasn’t been on a date in 35 years and she made a joke of it but the pandemic has made her realize how lonely she really is -- Diane would never date Jack again but knows he has a lot of eligible friends who would fit her dating profile
* Dying Olivia Newton-John worries endlessly about her daughter Chloe and made a touching final request of close pal John Travolta: Please take care of Chloe after I’m gone -- Olivia’s concerns for Chloe spiked after she blasted the COVID-19 vaccine on social media writing that natural medicine is the party she belongs to -- Olivia has been battling stage 4 breast cancer while John lost his wife Kelly Preston to the same disease and John loves and admires Olivia for the way she’s battled this disease and she’s given him the hope and encouragement he needs -- now Chloe’s ongoing issues have pushed Olivia to beg John to pledge he’ll be there for her daughter because Chloe has spent over $450,000 on multiple plastic surgeries including breast enhancements and a nose job and lip enhancements and Botox and she’s also battled anorexia and depression which led to bouts with cocaine and alcohol addiction -- Olivia has always been deeply concerned about who would look out for Chloe if she wasn’t around and now that she can see the end is near she asked John to be that person; he never blinked an eye and said of course
Page 5: Ozzy Osbourne’s frail and feeble appearance has friends fearing for the rocker but he has no plans to abandon a 2022 comeback even if it kills him -- the 72-year-old singer has battled Parkinson’s disease and crippling nerve damage but has vowed he will die onstage -- nobody disputes he has the heart of a lion and it’s great to see him out and about again recording music and talking the good talk but ultimately Ozzy is a very sickly guy who needs to protect himself and not charge around trying to delude himself by living life at a pace that doesn’t make sense anymore
Page 6: Rattled reality star Kylie Jenner is living in fear after being terrorized by two crazed fans and is now spending $350,000 a month on a 25-person security detail -- Kylie filed court documents seeking a restraining order against Justin Bergquist who allegedly broke into her $36.5 million California home last month
Page 7: Lonely Ryan Seacrest may have nearly half a billion bucks in the bank but he’d trade in his riches for another shot at love -- he was so devastated by his breakup with on-again off-again galpal Shayna Taylor last summer he fears he may never find a woman to spend the rest of his life with and he now realizes her put his career before his personal life one too many times and may suffer for it forever -- Ryan’s recent health woes have been a wake-up call and forced him to understand the price he’s paying for taking his partners for granted for so long -- Ryan now realizes life is too short to go it alone and it’s finally dawned on him he’s not invincible and not so self-sufficient after all
* Miley Cyrus’ admission that she’s had a lot of FaceTime sex has left friends and advisers fearing she may be setting herself up for some unwanted exposure -- though Miley explained she’s turned to virtual hookups to avoid physical contact during the pandemic but she’s putting herself at an entirely different kind of risk and she’s setting herself up as a potential victim of revenge porn
Page 10: Hot Shots -- Brooke Burke showed off her toned figure in Malibu, Andrew Garfield looked bored on the NYC set of Tick Tick...Boom!, Busy Philipps cleaning, Audrina Patridge and her daughter Kirra on a Beverly Hills playdate
Page 11: Guy Fieri is eating up heaps of praise for handing out $500 grants to more than 43,000 restaurant workers across the nation -- he scrambled to raise over $21.5 million in seven weeks to help legions of unemployed restaurant laborers who have suffered financially due to the COVID-19 health and economic crisis -- through his new Restaurant Employee Relief Fund Guy personally buttonholed fat cats at cash-rich corporations such as PepsiCo and Uber Eats and Moet Hennessy USA to make donations -- he shows how he did it and shines a light on the industry’s continuing challenges in Restaurant Hustle 2020 a documentary he produced for the Food Network
* Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are spreading yuletide cheer with their TV holiday special but they’re more interested in ringing cash registers than Christmas bells -- Garth and Trisha rake in $60 million a year from concert ticket sales and CD purchases and merchandising but the couple saw their cash flow slow during the pandemic -- they lost a bunch of money but they had the unique opportunity to do TV specials and grab a big chunk of it back -- while the $10 million they are pocketing for their TV specials won’t make up for what they would have netted on tour it was a sweet stocking stuffer and they both want to get back on the road and really rake it in but TV has made the wait a lot easier
Page 12: Straight Shuter -- With Beyonce and Taylor Swift facing off for Song of the Year at the upcoming Grammy Awards producers are scrambling to prevent another Kanye West explosion like what happened in 2009
* Killing off The Talk may be the only hope of saving Drew Barrymore’s tanking talk show
* The Real Housewives of New York are treating the first Black cast member Eboni K. Williams with kid gloves because no one wants to come across as racist
* Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts (picture)
Page 13: January Jones’ desperate bid for online attention has pals concerned she may be cracking up -- her red-hot career appears to have cooled since Mad Men ended in 2015 and January is dying to land another plum part like Betty Draper but she’s going about it the wrong way -- she’s been posting sexy bikini pictures and leggy dance numbers on Instagram but that’s not the way to catch the eye of casting directors especially with so few shows in production during the COVID-19 lockdown
* Caitlyn Jenner has reached out to trans actor Elliot Page offering to be his big sister in an opportunistic PR ploy -- while Caitlyn was one of many trans celebs including Jazz Jennings and Geena Rocero to offer Elliot congratulations and support, Caitlyn viewed the announcement as a new opportunity to leap back into the limelight and she believes that by aligning herself with Elliot she can regain her status as an activist and the symbol of transgender rights in Hollywood -- Elliot is happy to listen to Caitlyn’s advice but he’s been navigating his gender issues for years and doesn’t need guidance and he’s not going to be rude but he doesn’t need the help
Page 14: Crime
Page 15: A never-before-heard audio recording is of iconic soul singer James Brown’s wish to leave his $100 million fortune to educate poor children -- in the garbled 1999 recording the singer who died suddenly in 2006 called the creation of his I Feel Good foundation his lasting legacy but his precious foundation has not seen a dime because his fortune has remained tied up in court since his death which is the subject of an investigation by the Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney’s office after allegations surfaced that Brown might have been poisoned by someone after his money
Page 16: American Life
Page 17: What Shocked and Rocked in 2020 -- the best scoops and stories of the year
Page 25: Fired Hillsong Church pastor Carl Lentz was so starstruck by his celebrity parishioners he believed he was a star himself and his ego fueled his shocking fall from grace and now he’s getting mental health treatment after being accused of cheating on his wife and getting sacked for moral failures -- Carl tended the trendy megachurch’s New York City flock and regularly rubbed shoulders with celebs including NBA star Kevin Durant and singer Selena Gomez and even once invited Justin Bieber to live with him before being booted by bigwigs but now he’s said to be getting help at an outpatient facility specializing in depression and pastoral burnout but cunning Carl may have made the move simply to revamp his wrecked reputation
Page 26: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are heading to couples therapy in a desperate bid to stay together because their marriage is hanging by a thread -- the pair are at each other’s throats as they struggle to adjust to their new life in America -- Harry’s gone from being excited about the move to feeling tortured and it’s like he swapped his royal prison in Britain for a new hell in a $14 million California mansion and he fears he’s made a terrible mistake but Meghan’s ordering him to man up and grab this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make millions away from the monarchy’s suffocating shadow -- the fighting came to a head before the holidays when Harry was feeling especially homesick and guilty about abandoning his family especially his brother Prince William and his grandmother Queen Elizabeth -- adding to their troubles Meghan seems hellbent on staying in the public eye during the pandemic and she masterminded their personal video calls to charities in London and the U.S. and the secret deliveries of meals to the needy but then she made them public and the truth is it’s The Meghan Show now and Harry’s just the side act
Page 27: A charming Chinese spy bedded two Midwestern mayors and courted other clueless politicians to weasel her way into U.S. government circles -- Chinese national Christina Fang also known as Fang Fang, reportedly entered the U.S. as a college student in 2011
Page 31: Candice Bergen moaned that at the age of 74 she’s a wreck and that she has a wattle -- Candice admitted to having her eyes done while filming the Murphy Brown reboot because they were very hooded and as for today she knows she should have injections because she has deep lines along her lip but she can’t take the pain
* Rachael Ray lost her New York home to a blazing inferno but her holidays were salvaged by the warmth of community spirit -- following the devastating fire she and her husband moved into the property’s guesthouse and in a clip on The Rachael Ray Show the emotional host showed off her festively decorated digs and gushed she didn’t know where she’d be without friends and a community and people so dear to her that helped her bring Christmas to life even when you’re not at home
Page 32: Health Watch -- blood test predicts Alzheimer’s
Page 34: Longtime lovebirds Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are hoping to make a movie with their whole family -- the star-studded cast would include Goldie’s kids Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson and the couple’s son Wyatt Russell -- as for filming with the entire gang Goldie gushed that they have thought about it and she’d love to do something with her kids and the grandchildren too
* Hollywood Hookups -- Kristin Cavallari and Jeff Dye heating up, Malik Beasley and Larsa Pippen dating but Malik’s wife Montana Yao filed for divorce, Chrishell Stause and Keo Motsepe dating
Page 36: Infamous Hollywood hotel Chateau Marmont has a storied history of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll ever since it opened its doors in 1929 and nearly a century later it hasn’t been tamed -- even during the pandemic the majestic hotel is wild with drunks, overdoses and luckily averted suicide attempts and according to 911 records the debauched celebrity haunt is filled with people having breakdowns -- the Chateau’s crazy days and nights are legendary: it’s where John Belushi died in one of the bungalows in 1982 from a deadly cocaine-heroin concoction
Page 38: One of the most iconic images from the James Bond films which is a handgun used by Sean Connery in Dr. No has sold for $256,000 at auction in Beverly Hills -- the gun is a deactivated semi-automatic Walther PP pistol -- the winning bidder who asked to remain anonymous is an American who’s seen every James Bond film with his children -- a helmet created for Tom Cruise in Top Gun also sold at the auction for $108,000 while a sword used by Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction sold for $35,200
* Dolly Parton has one major thing left on her bucket list which is she wants to see Beyonce sing Jolene one of the country star’s signature songs -- Jolene has been recorded more than any other song Dolly has ever written but that isn’t enough for her because she also wants to see it updated by one of the top female stars of a new generation -- it has been recorded worldwide over 400 times in lots of different languages but nobody’s ever had a really big hit record on it and Dolly always hoped somebody might do it someday by someone like Beyonce
* Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has wrestled his way into the alcohol market with his own tequila brand and lifted it into first place as the most successful spirit launch in history and he’s even on track to double George Clooney’s first-year launch -- Dwayne is expected to move more than 300,000 cases of small-batch Teremana Tequila in its first year of trading
Page 40: Smitten singer Rihanna has fallen hard for A$AP Rocky but friends fear the playboy rapper will leave her broken-hearted -- Rocky is a charming guy but he also has a love ‘em and leave ‘em reputation and everyone’s concerned she’s more into him than he is into her -- Rihanna’s desperate to meet a man she can see herself with for the rest of her life and she believes Rocky might be the one but everybody thinks she’s rushing into things with Rocky -- Rocky is not interested in a long-term romance and Rihanna shouldn’t be thinking of this as more than a port in the storm
* Lizzo is livin’ large and she’s showing every inch of her jiggles and folds on TikTok -- the body-positivity enthusiast wore a white bikini for an all-angles video in which she amply demonstrated the tricks models and celebs use to look slimmer -- she bared her belly and back and legs and sometimes jiggled her thighs or grabbed a hunk of herself to prove there’s more to luscious ladies than meets the eye and wrote, “Wild to see the body positive movement come so far. Proud of the big girls who gave it wings.”
Page 42: Red Carpet -- The Crown stars -- Claire Foy, Emma Corrin, Gillian Anderson, Vanessa Kirby, Erin Doherty
Page 47: Odd List -- baseball fan Darren Johnson hatched an unusual idea for his new chicken coop making it a model of Houston’s former Eighth Wonder of the World The Astrodome

The playlist for 'royal pain in the ass' slaps man. How do you find such good music??
Incoming: I'm sleepy and sick and just wanna boringly ramble about my relationship with music rn, sorry, you've been warned
Im obsessed with music.
And I know everyone and their cat is enthusiastic about music, I ain't special, but when I say I'm obsessed I mean I'm obsessed. I dont like silence, makes me uncomfortable, so I've always worked really hard to fill up every moment with sound.
When I was a kid, I had a portable cassette player and I listened to the same Garth Brooks cassette on repeat for months. I used to sleep with headphones on before my parents got me a CD player for my room. It was a 5 disk changing player and I got more use out of that thing than I did of my own brain back then.
I didnt have my own CDs at first so I obsessed over listening to my parents' and my sister's instead. Queen's Greatest Hits, The Cherry Poppin Daddies, Alanis Morissette, Carole King, Fleetwood Mac, Eiffel 65, Sum 41, The Eagles, Sheryl Crow.
My CD player was on almost 24/7. I'd come home from school and go straight to my room to read... and music would play in the background. Music would play in the background as I did my homework. It played when I slept. When I played videogames that didnt have too much dialogue.
Constant music.
Then I started getting my own CD's. Nelly Furtado's Whoa, Nelly!, Maroon 5's Songs About Jane, James Blunt's Back to Bedlam.
I got a little mp3 player and I was able to ditch the bulky portable CD player and bag of CD's I used to haul with me on the school bus. I put all my music onto it and I took it everywhere I went, my most prized possession.
My favorite function on my brother's PSP was that you could upload music onto it and I would steal it and listen to Tenacious D and Weezer and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I found out I could play Halo 2 AND Green Day at the same time on the original Xbox and I used to play the Scarab mission over and over and over again until I had it, and Good Riddance (Time of your Life) memorized.
When Guitar Hero came out I holed myself in my room and spent hours everyday perfecting Sweet Child O Mine until it was the one and only song I could destroy my brother at on expert mode.
I used to ditch church and hide out in the parking lot listening to Foreplay- Long Time by Boston and Roundabout by Yes.
Every morning at 4 am during the week of the county fair, my mom and I would sing to Low Rider by War and Cows with Guns by Dana Lyons on the way to the fairgrounds where I'd listen to Aerosmith while I washed my show heifer in the dark.
Back when I used to ride 4 miles on my bike every day, I'd put Black Friday Rule by Flogging Molly on at the start of the worst hill so that I reached the crest right at the end of the guitar solo.
The first time I ever felt like a rebel was singing Big Balls by ACDC in front of my mom on the way home from school one day.
For my 8th grade talent show, my friends and I choreographed a dance set to a mashup of songs including Shakira's Hips Dont Lie, MC Hammer's U Cant Touch This, Aretha Franklin's Respect, and Foreigner's Jukebox Hero. We won the Crowd's Favorite vote.
In the middle of donating blood, the Mennonite lady watching over me as the blood was being drawn noticed I was frowning and asked if everything was alright. I asked the name of the song that was playing overhead at the moment. It was That's All by Genesis. I downloaded it when I got home.
My brother bought me a sound bar for my 17th birthday and I still use it to listen to music while I sleep today, almost 8 years later.
The easiest way to impress my younger cousins back in the day was to recite the "Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail's Black Knight, and Benito Mussolini and the Blue Meanie, and Cowboy Curtis and Jambi the Genie, Robocop, the Terminator, Captain Kirk, Darth Vader, Lo-pan, Superman, every single power ranger, Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan, Spock, The Rock, Doc Oc and Hulk Hogan" part from The Ultimate Showdown by Lemon Demon or the "a combination AK-57, uzi, radar laser, triple barrel, double scoped, heat-seekin' shotgun" part from Da Turdy Point Buck by Bananas at Large.
I absorbed songs from the people around me. Bolero (Ravel) by the London Symphony Orchestra and Indian Lady by the Don Ellis Orchestra from my dad. That was a Crazy Game of Poker by OAR and Warehouse by the Dave Matthews Band from my brother. Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen and Dog Days are Over by Florence + the Machine from my mom. Fat Lip by Sum 41 and One Way or Another by Blondie from my sister. Wish You were Here by Pink Floyd and Islands by The xx from my high school boyfriend.
My best friend from high school and I would go to Hastings and buy random CD's from the sales rack. That's how we ended up listening to Mott the Hoople on repeat one summer when her dad hired us to clean up a house for the next bunch of renters. We used to stop what we were doing every time All the Young Dudes would play so we could clap and sing along, "All the young dudes, carry the news! Boogaloo dudes, carry the news..."
I got my boyfriend hooked on Modest Mouse and we started collecting CD's to crowd the glove box of our busted Nissan Sentra and get stuck in the clicky CD player until I melted down and broke a butter knife ripping the entire stereo from the dash.
We went to Pink Floyd light shows at the planetarium and argued about whether long, meandering instrumental solos are shit or not (They're shit)
We went to Blue October concerts and met the band and danced to The Getting Over it Part and sang all the words of Into the Ocean.
We went to a Modest Mouse concert and realized for the first time that it was hipster music when we noticed a suspicious amount of people hula hooping.
We took long road trips and discussed how we would make an AMV out of One Piece's Dressrosa arc to the Glass Animals song Walla Walla.
Certain songs by the Dixie Chicks pluck me from my life and stick me right back into my 8 year old body lying in bed in the middle of the afternoon reading yet another Tamora Pierce novel and wondering if I'd ever be a writer.
The past 20 years of my life have been a constant journey of collecting music. I'm constantly rediscovering old music and falling in love with it all over again. More and more music keeps getting made and popping up on my YouTube or my Spotify or in commercials or movie trailers and I hunt them down and I browse the artist and I find artists similar to them and I keep listening and searching and finding and it's a neverending cycle that only gets better and better with every new discovery.
So yeah like....... that's how

“When I was in Austin, there was this country radio station right across the freeway from where I lived. I would call in and get through a lot, and I got to know the afternoon DJ. One time he said, ‘You want me to come pick you up in the Hot 93 van, and we’ll go to a club and pass out some CDs? You can be my helper.’ I said, ‘Hell, yeah, dude. That sounds awesome.’ After that, he told me about an open mic Friday at the station, where you bring in your acoustic guitar and sing a song that you’ve written. So I left the tape deck ready to record my performance, and then ran across the freeway with my 12-string. On the air I said to my friend back at our place, ‘Start taping, Kevin.’ The morning crew, Lisa and Ernie, got a chuckle out of that. When they asked if I was ready to sing, I got a little nervous because they said there were thousands of people listening. But I sang my song, and it went pretty well. It was called ‘On the Run.’ It’s an Old West kind of thing. It’s about a guy who says he was framed for shooting somebody, and he’s on the run. It’s based on a true story, an experience I had years ago.
"There was another time where one of my songs won an award on KILT in Houston. It was the Lone Star Band Search Contest. It was a song called ‘Bubba.’ The chorus goes, ‘Bubba was an everyday, red-blooded redneck, beer-drinking, wishful-thinking, All-American man.’ It’s a real fast boogie-woogie song. They called me a couple weeks later and said I won. I got a $1,000 gig playing at Traders Village. I paid myself $500 and split $500 with the other guys in the band. That was around the time Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, and all of them started coming out, and country music changed. It wasn’t crying in your beer with a lot of pedal steel. It was more guitar, and it was rocking. I saw that style was getting popular. So I thought, I don’t care, I’ll sell out. I want to become famous. I’ve got to play ball with the record companies and do whatever the hell they want. I’d watched other guys try to get signed. But they wouldn’t play ball, and guess what? They’re probably as poor as I am right now. I never did realize that big dream. It’s been like 10 or 15 years since the band was active. We were supposed to do a reunion gig recently, but I couldn’t make it because I had to work. I’ve got to do something to pay the bills.”

My TOP 10 Favorite Country Songs
Because why not? Though I hate most modern country music, I used to listen to nearly nothing but country and metal back when I was a kid. I will not be repeating any artists on this list. So these are just some of my all-time favorite country songs of all time.
10. Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver
This is not John Denver’s Version, I just prefer it... Because I listen to it as cities are destroyed by a mad Irishman.
youtube
9. How Do I Live? by LeeAnn Rimes.
I love LeeAnn Rimes, the problem is, I have a list and she cannot be on it but once. This song really songs 90s movie soundtrack listening to it again. Which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just clear in it’s time period. So I looked it up, this song was released in 1997, so this song is as old as I am!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Olo8gzgpC4
8. Love Story by Taylor Swift
I was a big fan of Taylor Swift from 2006 to around 2010 when I became too edgy for her stuff. *Flashbacks* Let’s just say, though this song is stupid in many ways, it brings me back. Also this music video! I want that dress so bad!!!! :)
youtube
7. I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack
This is actually this first time I’m watching the music video for this song... Not bad, but oh my god the early 2000s. Also for some reason, this song reminds me of my grandpa? Don’t remember this song ever playing with him, but I guess he gave me a similar message. Oh well! Love it!
youtube
6. Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks
I actually couldn’t decide if I wanted to put this song on here or Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks. Just consider them tied, one is just more entertaining than the other.
youtube
5. Hurt by Johnny Cash
This is one of the few songs on here that is not in reference to my childhood or teen years, this is completely dependent on the movie Logan (2017). I’d heard the song of course, and heard the original version by NIИ, but this movie really brought out my love for it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt1Pwfnh5pc (Apparently the link button isn’t working anymore.)
4. Fancy by Reba
Do I even need to speak of the majesty that is Fancy by Reba McEntire? I mean really? This is one of the best songs by Reba for me. Just listen!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIwbegWh1S0&t=54s
3. Man! I Feel like a Woman by Shania Twain
So first things first, I’ve actually heard an argument that Shania Twain is what killed country music and that’s why we’re living in the age of “Bro-Country”. No. No. She didn’t kill country music, country music killed itself. Country music decided to go from the fun but rebellious music of the working class, to the music of an overly patriotic, they have always been patriotic just more than before, and unquestioning people.
When did this happen? When Miley Cyrus sang Hoedown Throwdown in the Hannah Montana movie. That’s when Country music started its death spiral. Or maybe it was 9/11? I think the Hoedown Throwdown. There is good modern country music out there, it’s just I don’t feel like finding it and honestly, is it even worth it?
Rant over! So my dad was a big fan of Shania Twain when I was younger and whenever she came on the radio or he had one of the CDs with him for car trips, she was played loudly. And honestly, this is good stuff. So this could have gone to about every other Shania song in her discography, but I choose this one because it makes me smile. And while rewatching this video though, made me have a whole other gay realization. And another song that came out in 1997! :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJL4UGSbeFg
2. Jolene by Dolly Parton
A song that was difficult to choose from considering Dolly’s long list of hits. 9 to 5, I Will Always Love You, Here You Come Again, or Why’d You Come in Looking like that?. This song I’d actually never heard until I was in middle school and watching CMT before school and saw the old footage of Dolly singing it.
I loved it as soon as I had heard it! And so for it being a fun song for all music lovers, no matter their genre preference, Jolene by Dolly Parton is number 2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW25foOMkwI
1. When You Say Nothing At All by Alison Krauss.
I grew up with a live version of Alison Krauss and Union Station CD. I love(d) that thing to bits, I own it on about every medium but vinyl. I’ll be honest and say I loved almost every single song off that album, but of course, this song always stood out as the best. Alison Krauss has many beautiful songs sung with that angelic voice of hers. But, this one will always be my favorite, and thus, this song is my number 1 pick for my favorite country songs.

I got bored. Want to see more lists? No? Okay then, more on their way! :)

Your Permission to Fail
My parents own a 1999 BMW 328i convertible. For reasons, I won’t bore you with, it had been many years since I’d driven it, until recently. When I did, I was thrilled to discover my Garth Brooks Greatest Hits CD still lodged in the CD changer.
I listened to his song, “Standing Outside the Fire.” Here are two lines:
Life is not tried, it is merely survived If you’re standing outside the fire
If you’re looking for an example of a leader who standing right in the fire, trying each day, you need look no further than Kristen Hadeed. On this week’s episode, she told us how she built a business on being real, making mistakes, and perhaps most importantly, just trying stuff.

In which a high school crush between a fox and a cougar grows into something more.
OK LISTEN! I had to get this out of my system! I am from the country (like COUNTRY country with 4-H and FFA lets-go-dance-in-cornfield-country) and this is romantic to me! It’s that cheesy “I wanted THAT but I was so far in the closet a talking lion is telling me about religious allegory,” type of idea from my teenage years that has been eating away at my sanity since I thought about it. So please enjoy with a cheap beer that you stole from your Dad and Garth Brooks playing on the radio…
*****
“This day has been shit… Ah got a C on mah test, ah have three reports due next week, and ah have another text on Monday…” Gideon Grey thought to himself as he slammed his locker shut. Senior year of high school was supposed to be a magical time for lots of mammals but all it did was remind the fox that he was going nowhere fast. At first, it had seem that the pudgy fox wouldn’t even graduate in a few months but with some tutoring from Bobby Catmull, Gideon would at least get his GED. The large cougar male had offered to help the former bully after the Grey family started to fall apart. Rumor had it that Gideon’s father had been abusing his wife and kit for years and the law had finally made a move towards the end of last semester to arrest the fox for multiple charges. Gideon and his mother had finally been saved and were working on rebuilding their lives since the beginning on the spring semester.
“Ah little late…” Gideon muttered to himself. Part of the healing process was to set up the pudgy fox with a counselor to try and help Gideon control his ‘unchecked rage and aggression,’ as the sow in a clean green dress had put it. The fox had met with her for the past three months and had to admit that having someone to talk to was helping. Bobby was helping too, staying after school to help the delinquent fox and being someone Gideon had grown to care for. He was close to the only friend Gideon had besides Travis. The cougar had grown from a small nerdy cub to a large lean young man with an attractive body. Gideon winced to himself. “Yer not allowed to call Bobby attractive ya queer fox…” He thought to himself. Sure, his counselor had helped him come to terms with his sexuality, but that doesn’t mean the fox was ready for the world to have one more thing to make fun of him for. “Besides. There is no way Bobby would like a broken mammal like me…” He thought to himself, as he shoved books from his locker to his tattered and worn backpack.
The long school day finally ended and Gideon started to trudge his way to his bus home with his torn and beaten backpack when the foxes path was blocked by a large frame. Growling, the fox shot the large mammal blocking his path a glare. Lately, every mammal had been anxious to start something with the former bully. Instead of an angry snarl, the fox saw the smiling muzzle of Bobby Catmull. Gideon looked away in embarrassment. “Sorry Bobby… Ah thought yer were someone who wanted to start something…” The cougar stood a full two heads above the fox and had a lean runner's body. If you didn’t know the mammal, you would guess he was the local football star but instead the cougar prefered to make music and art.
Bobby laughed a bit and adjusted his own backpack. “No one wants to hurt you Gid.” With an awkward shuffle, the large cat produced a small gift for the fox. “I heard you got a C on your last math test and I wanted to get you a little gift!” Gideon took the hand-wrapped item with a little hesitation. No one ever gave the fox anything…
“Ya didn’t have to… Ah only got a C because you stayed after school and helped me.  Ah should be getting ya something not the other way around!” The fox protested. Bobby just shook his head and smiled.
“I wanted to… Hurry, open it!” The cougar said, his tail flicking in excitement. With a smirk, the fox open the newspaper that was wrapped around the flat object. Now free from its wrapping, Gideon looked at the clear box that housed a round reflective disk.
“A CD?” Gideon asked looking back to the cougar.
“Yeah!” Bobby said excitedly, his long tan tail flicking behind him. “Remember when we were studying the other night and I was talking about the ‘Beagles’ and other classic rock bands? Tada! Now you can listen to good music while you study on your own!”
“Ohhhh…” Gideon said vaguely remembering the conversation. “...Thank you Bobby…” The fox looked at his feet.
With a frown, the large cat hunkered down to look at the fox's eye-level. “What's wrong? I thought you would be excited…” Bobby said failing to hide his disappointment.
Meeting the cougars eyes, Gideon saw the sad look forming over the large cat’s muzzle. The fox didn’t want to let the cougar down. “Ah am excited...It’s just… Ah don’t have a CD player...So I can’t listen to it…” Gideon admitted. He really didn’t own anything other than some clothes and a few old books left by his Grandmother. Normally, the fox would rather die than show weakness, but Bobby had really grown into a trusted friend over the past few months of tutoring. Gideon’s counselor had encouraged the fox to be honest with those he cared about.
“Oh!” Bobby said with some surprise. “I didn’t even think of that… That was very stupid of me Gideon. I am sorry.” The cougar offered a sincere look.
“Don’t apologize! Ya didn’t know!” Gideon felt his face warm. “Ah will figure out something later but ah gotta get to the bus!” The fox began to make his way past the cougar when a large paw grabbed his own.
“I have an idea!” Bobby said with a smile, squeezing the foxes paw. Gideon could feel his face turn a bright red as he looked from his held paw to the smiling cougar. He wouldn’t admit it, but the fox enjoyed the feeling on his paw wrapped by the large digits of the cougar, his slightly rough paw-pads warming the smaller mammal. Just as the fox was about to ask Bobby to let his paw go, the large cougar began to lead the pudgy teen out the school. “Let me take you home! I know the perfect place we can go and listen to the CD together!”
Gideon was thankful that the odd pair were some of the last students to leave the school and the parking lot was all but empty. Releasing the foxes paw Bobby, he fished for his key ring and pressed a plastic button housed there. A relatively new blue pick-up truck beeped in response from across the way. Throwing his backpack into the bed of the truck, the cougar moved to the passenger side and pulled opened the door. The fox blushed a bit and placed his own backpack in the bed before climbing into the larger cab of the truck still clutching his gift to his chest.
The blue truck was built for larger mammals like cows, horses, or in this case large breed cats. Gideon’s feet dangled from the seat with plenty of extra room above his head. With a huff, Bobby sat in the driver’s side and buckled in with a smile. “It’s a good truck! Dad used it for awhile before getting a company car. So I get access to the truck as long as I keep my grades up.”
“It must be nice to go where ya want…” The fox said buckling his seat belt. He look down at the CD still clutched in his paws. ‘Why am ah feeling so nervous?’ Gideon thought to himself. With a small roar of the engine, Bobby drove the pair out of the school parking lot and out towards the rolling fields of the Burrows. Many of the crops were just a small green plant in the Spring but in a few months large stocks of corn, multi-colored berries, and even large oval tobacco leaves could be seen. The fox watched out the window as a silence fell on the pair. The blue truck took a turn seemingly at random and continued to take the fox to an unknown location. A few more minutes and the truck parked on a small hill overlooking several fields and a lake.
Bobby turned to face the fox. “Here we go! My personal favorite spot! Mind if I see the CD real quick?” The large cat asked. Gideon handed his gift over and watched as the cougar took the round item and inserted it into the dashboard. After a moment, a soft guitar could be heard coming through the speakers. With a smile, the large cat cranked up the volume causing Gideon to cover his ears with a frown. “Oh sorry!  I forgot that your ears are more sensitive.”
Wincing, the fox looked at the large cat. “Ah little, why are ya playing it so loud? Won’t we get in trouble?” Gideon asked. With a large grin, the cougar unbuckled his seatbelt and patted the foxes paw.
“Naw, we won’t bother anyone here.  Wait there while I get everything set up.” And with that the large cat opened his door and started to reach below his seat for something before meeting Gideon’s eyes. With a blush Bobby added. “Could you close your eyes… I want it to be a surprise.” The fox gave the cougar a mocked frustrated look but did as he was told.
With his eyes closed, Gideon could focus on the smells and sounds around him; the CD was playing a soft guitar with a warm voice singing in tune and the truck cab the fox sat in smelled like Bobby and the usual scents of earth coming from the fields. Occasionally, a rustle or metal clank could be heard from where Bobby was working on his surprise. The fox felt his cheeks warm a little thinking about the cougar holding his paw earlier. He wasn’t sure why the cougar was being so friendly and went out of his way to give Gideon a present that he really didn’t deserve. Sure, they had spend hours together trying to get Gideon caught up and on his way to graduating before the end of senior year, but the fox thought Bobby was just being a good mammal. The cougar was easily the smartest mammal in their grade and had been one of the first to show support for Gideon after his father was arrested. ‘Maybe Bobby just feels sorry for me…” The fox thought before he heard the passenger door open and the warm voice of the cougar snapped the teen back to the present.
“Hold out your paw Gid.” Bobby said and again the fox complied. Jumping from the cab, the fox still with his eyes closed was lead around to the back of the truck. “Ok… Open your eyes!”
The red fox opened his eyes to see that the back of the truck had been turned into a makeshift picnic spot with a blanket thrown over the bed. Gideon found himself smiling and gave the cougar a sideways smile. “Did ya have this planned?”
“Not really… I had to improvise a little, here let me help you into the truck bed.” After a few moments, both mammals were laying in the bed of the truck with their backs propped against the cab watching the fields sprawling out all around them while the CD continued to play a collection of music hand-selected by Bobby. Gideon found himself absorbed by the sheer variety of music the cougar had picked out and after a particularly energetic song the fox smiled over to Bobby.
“Thank ya Bobby, ah really appreciate ya making this CD fer me.” Gideon said as his cheeks began to warm. “Ah don’t know why ya waste yer time on me though…” The fox started to twiddle his fingers together and looked out over the fields unable to meet the cougars eyes. Gideon felt tears well around his own eyes but tried his best to keep himself from crying. After a moment Bobby scooted closer to the fox and wrapped an arm around the smaller male.
“I don’t think I am wasting my time on you Gideon.” The cougar said in a warm whisper hugging the fox. “Hey look at me…” Bobby asked placing his large paw on the foxes cheek. Their eyes met and Bobby could see the tears Gideon was trying to hide. “I really like you Gideon Grey.” The larger male leaned forward until their lips met.
Gideon wasn’t sure if he should protest or allow himself to get swept away in the moment. Soon the fox began to kiss the large cat back placing his own paw on Bobby’s cheek. Eventually, the cougar broke the kiss and looked into the deep green eyes of the fox. The boys both wore a goofy satisfied grin.
“Ah can tell ya like me Bobby Catmull…” Gideon said with a little slur. The pair started to giggle at each other as the larger cat pulled the fox close into a hug. Leaning back in the cab of the truck, the pair continued to listen to music wrapped in each other's embrace. Their paws were locked together as they whispered to one another between the music. Slowly, the sun began to sink below the horizon and the bright blue sky gave way to rays of orange, red, and yellow.
Eventually, Bobby drove Gideon home and after a final goodbye kiss the fox waved the cougar off. Making his way into the small run-down building he called home, Gideon put his backpack down and headed to the kitchen.
“Well, well yer home late.” Gideon’s Mom said. The greying vixen walked over to her son and gave him a quick hug. The pair had been growing closer after Mr. Grey had been arrested. While there was still years of pain and hurt to heal, both Mother and Son were working hard to form a better bond and they would even go to counseling together at times. The vixen was also a bit pudgy much like her son and kept her longer autumn-colored head fur in a tight bun. She stood a little under her son’s chin and while Gideon had bright blue eyes hers were a cool misty grey.
Sniffing, the air the female fox stopped in her tracks. “Oh you smell a lot like a cougar right now, were you spending time with that Catmull boy?”
“Yes Mom, Bobby made me a CD so we listened to it in his truck. He’s gonna come get me tomorrow to help with mah essays…” Gideon said while he began searching the kitchen for a few items. His mother leaned in the doorway and took out a cigarette.
“Are you actually going to study tomorrow or make-out more?” The vixin said with a smile.
“MOM!” Gideon protested turning to his mother while his face turned a bright red.
“What? You can’t hide everything from me Gid! Ah can smell it and ah am all for ya making-out with a good kit! Truth be told, ah thought you would end up with Travis...” Mrs. Grey said lighting the cigarette. Gideon covered his eyes and took a deep breath to collect himself.
“Sweet cheese and crackers…” The male fox huffed as he went back to collecting the things he needed. Some flour, sugar, some strawberries from the fridge...
“Whatcha making?” The vixen asked taking a long draw from the tobacco product.
“Ah thought ah could make Grandma’s strawberry pie fer tomorrow… Fer Bobby…” Gideon said with a blush. The vixen giggled and turned to head back to the living room leaving her son to his work.
“As long as I get a slice, you can bake to yer heart’s content!” With a wave, Mrs. Grey disappeared from sight. “Tell Bobby he will need to come for dinner soon so ah can meet him! Yer not gonna date him till I give the O.K.” The vixen called from the other room.
“Mom! All we did was kiss!” Gideon hollered back and with a shake of his head, the teen began to prepare his Grandma’s famous pie. The younger fox began to laugh to himself. He could get used to the idea of dating the cougar.

Maybe you’ve seen the Facebook posts, maybe you’ve been challenged yourself, maybe you have or haven’t followed through when tagged in a post that says, “name 10 albums that have influenced my musical taste and upbringing. One album per day for the coming 10 days. No explanations, no reviews, just the cover art. Every day I am supposed to nominate someone to do the same.”
I was nominated by an old elementary school friend, but to be honest, remember to do a post 10 days in a row, and being committed enough to follow through on it seemed daunting – so I put them all in one post here instead.
Some of these albums are older than me and informed and influenced my taste in music moving forward from when I learned them. Some were released at the perfect time in my life to connect with me when I needed them. And one was released when I was 32, but showed me something I wanted to see, so it makes the list too.
I also decided I needed/wanted to do a little more than just drop in album covers without any notes. Thanks to this tweet from Donovan Woods for cementing that idea for me.
You people posting the covers of 10 records that influenced you on Facebook, what’s with the “no explanation” part? That’s literally the only thing that could make that shit interesting.
— Donovan Woods (@DonovanWoods) April 26, 2020
So, for Cynthia and all of you, here are 10 albums that influenced me and my taste in music and fandom. Leave a comment to let me know if any of my albums are on your list too.
Barenaked Ladies – Gordon
I played the hell out of this album on cassette when I was about 10 years old (and for a few years after that). I knew all the words to all the songs, even The Flag, which I didn’t really like or understand at the time.
Barenaked Ladies hooked me with Gordon, and it’s still one of my favourite complete albums.
Eagles – Hotel California
CDs were already everywhere when I picked up a cassette copy of Hotel California at an antique store in Port Hope, ON. I was in high school and stopped in at the store once every couple of weeks to kill time and look at cool (affordable) little knick-knacks. One day the woman at the cash register told me I could have the tape as I was walking around, it made my day.
By that time I already knew the title track, New Kid In Town, and Life In The Fastlane. But it was that cassette that taught me Wasted Time, Victim Of Live, and Pretty Maids All In A Row.
Fleetwood Mac – Rumours
When we do 5 Quick Questions interviews, we ask artists which album they would reach for to play without skipping songs. My answer is Rumours.
We could fight about there being better albums to choose or our individual musical tastes – but at the end of the day, I’d still put it on and start with Second Hand News and finish with Gold Dust Woman. This album is a classic, these songs are classics, and if you haven’t listened to Rumours lately, now is a great time.
Garth Brooks – Double Live
I’ve talked in the past about Garth Brooks being the reason that I write about music, this album (and the Live in Central Park concert I watched on HBO) were huge for me. It was a time when I was listening to a lot of rock and pop music because I wanted to be different or have my own taste (my parents listened to a lot of country), but Garth Brooks captivated me and these songs and performances allowed me to find a balance and accept that I did like country too, and that was okay.
Matchbox Twenty – Yourself Or Someone Like You
Before the time of iPods (or me having the money for a good discman and CDs) I used to sing to myself as I walked home from work in high school. One of the albums that I sang a lot of songs from was Yourself Or Someone Like You.
Push, 3AM, Real World, and Back To Good were all in my head, I didn’t need the music to sing along too, I could just do it. If I get that feeling from music now, I know I’m in.
Our Lady Peace – Clumsy
This album is special to me. I listened to it like I listened to Gordon and sang the songs like I did with Matchbox Twenty.
4AM connected with me more than most songs of that era. Clumsy remains an all-time favourite. Superman’s Dead, Automatic Flowers, and Hello Oskar all got a lot of play too. It was a winner then and it’s still a winner now.
Shania Twain – The Woman In Me
Shania Twain made country music cool at a time when it wasn’t cool to be a teenager listening to the local country music radio station. Yes, traditionalists thumbed their nose at her, but I didn’t care – it was country enough, it was played on country radio and CMT, and I loved it.
It doesn’t hurt that the album had eight singles that were all pumped into my brain or that it sold a bazillion copies. It also doesn’t hurt that non-country lovers love Shania too.
Taylor Swift – 1989
Yes, the album came out when I was 32 years old, but it still inspired me. 1989 was Swift’s complete departure from country and move into pop. It was a career risk, an opportunity to follow her own path, and it’s full of bangers.
I love Taylor Swift and I love artists making the music they want to make, following the paths they want to take, and giving me results I can listen to and sing along with.
Empire Records Soundtrack
I have loved Empire Records since the first time I saw it on TV in the mid-90s, so when my mom got me the soundtrack on CD for my birthday (16 or 17) I was super happy.
The songs on this thing are perfect for the time and vibe and energy of the movie and characters – and they were perfect for me too!
Big Shiny Tunes
Big Shiny Tunes was the very first CD I ever bought with my own money to play in my crappy discman. I bought it because I couldn’t choose a full album of a single artist, and decided to trust the curated list of jams from MuchMusic instead.
I was never a giant fan of Scooby Snacks or Aeroplan, but the way I listened to and sang along with the rest of the songs on the CD more than made up for that.

One of the headaches that includes changing from one streaming service to one more is playlists. In the razor-thin-margin organisation of streaming where it takes on giants like Apple and Amazon that don't rely on music, Spotify must do anything it could to survive. A surge in songs streaming via digital services including Spotify and Apple Music has actually prompted the fastest development in UK songs intake because the late 1990s. We plan on enhancing our item in the future as well as we could integrate with other songs streaming solutions, yet we're presently ultra-focused on solving this one trouble in a sophisticated and also simplistic means. The Songs Importer, as the deprecated program was understood, would check your songs library in its default area, then relocate songs into Amazon's Cloud Player" solution for streaming. Regardless of where fans discover you, on prominent streaming platforms like Apple Music and also Spotify, in download stores like iTunes as well as Amazon, by yourself website, and even in record stores, CD Infant aids you position your music almost everywhere that issues. Customers pay a regular monthly membership cost in order to access the service's streaming directory of over 4 million tracks, however are limited as to the number of they could save for offline listening as well as use in DJ' ing applications. It would certainly've been a lot more intriguing in some cases to see the images play against just the music - sans words or sound results. A happy-go-lucky tune with a wonderful accompanying image that stimulates emotions from one more era. Apple Music could also turn out to have some exclusives from musicians in its social Attach section, though there are legit needs to wonder about just how well that'll play out. The music could be streamed to any kind of Bluetooth audio speaker attached to your apple iphone, however, for a little bit of additional enjoyable, you could decide to stream the songs to Apple TV with AirPlay. To offer an additional instance, while some art songs pieces, such as harmonies are very long, some pop tracks are just a few minutes long. It proved to be a massive commercial dissatisfaction to Brooks as well as the record tag (Erlwine 4). After the album cannot market, Brooks announced his approaching retired life at the end of 2000, saying that he intended to spend even more time with his wife as well as three children (Garth Brooks Bio 2). Music writers, lovers and also artists will certainly all be right in the house as we open up creative thinking, link and also technology with songs as well as video clip," claimed Tamara Hrivnak, Head of Songs Company Growth and also Partnerships at Facebook, in a declaration. has most current collection of hits movies tracks with lyrics and you could additionally download mp4 video clips at below with just one click so please take a look at currently. If you liked this article and you also would like to obtain more info pertaining to http://Canislatrans.info i implore you to visit our own web-site. Though the capability on iMessage is restricted to simply sharing tracks - not locating warm or trending music or building group playlists, as an example - that could really be a wise layout choice on Spotify's part. Soundiiz successfully moved 72 of the 75 tracks I've got in my Spotify "2015" playlist over to Tidal. Basic music copyrighting techniques normally require that the writer of the song preserves the rights to the right to the music structure which the workshop that did the recording of the music holds the rights of the recording. And also you can't sync private cds or songs, so adding Something To Inform You implies making the cd a playlist. Google wants the music market to see YouTube as a wonderful advertising tool for bands old as well as new - a little bit like radio - as opposed to a revenue centre. Give the present of Apple Songs. At some point he finished to guitar and also began to play in regional nation bands while functioning as a toolmaker. Shyma had actually apologised before her arrest to people who took the video for the tune, I Have Concerns, "in an improper way". Complete Audiobus as well as Inter-App Sound compatibility allows you to utilize Mogees together with various other songs applications such as Garageband or LoopyHD. There has actually been a solid propensity in the aesthetics of music to highlight the vital value of compositional framework; however, other concerns concerning the visual appeals of songs include lyricism, harmony, hypnotherapy, emotiveness, temporal dynamics, playfulness, color, and resonance (see likewise musical growth ). For users brand-new to streaming music, Apple Music is good enough to get a lot of iPhone customers to start paying for streaming music. As the sole songwriter for the band, Anderson plainly has a lot on his very complete plate when it concerns creating a cd and shaping its instructions. They provide Spotify newfound power to pick what artists as well as tracks a large swath of its audiences hear. Apple has actually created a songs service that can be both thin and frustrating at the very same time. After initially being called The New Yardbirds, the band altered their name to Led Zeppelin as well as by the time the BBC got to audition them, they had already released their launching album. Virtually each streaming service in existence simply lets you tap the musician name from currently playing.

DC TALK - FREE AT LAST (1992)
Tumblr media
One year at camp they started showing music videos before chapel started. I really liked TV, so naturally I made it a point to get to chapel as early as possible all week in order to watch as many videos as possible. I’m hoping this was winter camp, so I can tell myself that I was really just trying to come in from the cold, but let’s be honest, it was probably summer camp and beautiful outside.
Anyway, I watched a lot of music videos that week (or weekend! We can always hold out hope it was winter camp.), but only retained two of them… And one I promptly forgot all information about. (Years later I would discover that it was “PDA” by Audio Adrenaline.) The other video though, was “Walls” by DC Talk. That song blew my mind, and the first thing I did when I got home was rush to the Christian bookstore to buy the album if came from, NU THANG. (Ok, full disclosure: it probably wasn’t first thing. I was very bad at saving money. I’m sure there was some delay while I amassed enough money to buy a cassette tape.)
Once we got to the store though, I ran into a problem. DC Talk had already released a new album called FREE AT LAST. So I had to decide whether to get the tape with the song I knew I wanted, or to get the newest one. Throwing another monkey wrench in the situation was that there was also a featured tape on display called NO ROOM 2 BREATHE by a group called Dynamic Twins. I had never heard of them before, but my brother must have heard them somewhere because he was pushing hard for me to forgo DC Talk altogether and go for NO ROOM 2 BREATHE. After an extended period at the listening station switching back and forth between the three of them, I decided on FREE AT LAST.
I don’t think I’ve heard Dynamic Twins mentioned again since that day, but I just googled them and apparently that was their second of three albums. I like to imagine there’s a timeline out there where I bought their album instead and then proceeded to become a huge rap fan. In that timeline I never cared about JESUS FREAK when it was released and so never made the transition from rap to rock along with DC Talk. I never go on to discover the other bands that changed my life, never got a job at Hot Topic, never met my wife at work and my entire life is different. This may be the darkest timeline.
As it was, DC Talk always had that rap/rock/soul combo, even dating back to “Walls.” So even though I thought I was getting into rap, I wasn’t.
It’s funny to me to talk to other people my age about music from the mid-90’s, because I have no idea what anyone else is talking about. I didn’t even know who Nirvana was until after Kurt died and people started wearing those white t-shirts with his picture and dates on the front and that quote on the back. My only knowledge of Madonna was that she was the reason I wasn’t allowed to watch Dick Tracy because “she wore underwear for clothes.” I honestly just didn’t have a clue about any mainstream music; I was living in a different world. FREE AT LAST led me to Audio Adrenaline’s DON’T CENSOR ME (and eventually back to their self-titled first album which contains “PDA”), Carman’s ADDICTED TO JESUS, The Newsboys, Geoff Moore and the Distance’s HOMERUN, SPACE by Bleach, and Skillet’s first album. If that tape had the Forefront Records black and yellow spine, I was there.
It’s hard to put into words how important DC Talk was to me. Garth Brooks was the first thing I connected with, but it was still my dad’s music. DC Talk was mine. They were the first thing I discovered for myself. I’m fairly confident that my first concert was DC Talk at the Billy Graham Crusade at the Metrodome, followed pretty closely by DC Talk’s Welcome To The Freak Show Tour at the Target Center. The first song I ever wrote was a blatant ripoff of “Walls.” (I still remember the hook, but there is no amount of money you can pay me to share that with anyone.) My little brother, cousins and I literally spent hours lip-syncing and dancing together to FREE AT LAST. I at one point in junior high definitely made the statement “DC Talk and Audio Adrenaline are there two greatest bands of all time.”
And I absolutely believed it too. Which is why it’s odd that to this day I have never listened to all of SUPERNATURAL. FREE AT LAST was my gateway album. JESUS FREAK was my first CD, which really redirected my musical direction. NU THANG (along with HOMERUN) was my first CD purchase. But I never even bought the WELCOME TO THE FREAK SHOW live album until I found it used on clearance probably 5 years ago and bought it for nostalgia’s sake. By the time SUPERNATURAL (and especially SOLO) came out the world had moved on. But to this day I have not taken those other three out of semi-regular rotation.
• Note: At some point I misplaced my original cassette tape. This is a photo of the CD I upgraded to.
