I've seen this claim going around on twitter a few times that the only reason why Godzilla Minus One was successful was because the Japanese vfx animators are underpaid. While that is certainly possible, since the Japanese animation industry has a history of overworking and underpaying their animators, there is one thing these people forget to mention. That American vfx animators are also notoriously, overworked and underpaid (cough, cough Marvel and Disney). And yet these American films have ridiculously bloated budgets compared to Godzilla minus one. Also, the director of Godzilla Minus One is a vfx guy himself so he would probably know how to use the budget efficiently. I think it's an excuse for bad leadership at these Hollywood studios who can't seem to manage a budget.

Hey bitches! Do you have tips on how to set a budget? The necessities are the necessities, but figuring out how much money should go to savings and how much to use for fun is difficult. I know if "fun money" is in the budget, I'll feel a lot less guilty about going out and having fun or getting something just because I want it. But I feel like there's so much pressure for all your money to go to savings/investments/etc. Obviously, everyone's budget/priorities are different, but still!
We got you baby! Budgets aren't right for everyone, but the process always starts with tracking your spending. From there, you can crunch your own personal data. Here's how:
Budgets Don’t Work for Everyone—Try the Spending Tracker System Instead

Friendly reminder no game requires over 100million in budget and Lethal Company is 10$ made by one dude.
Friendly reminder you, yes, you, right now, can make And Sell, a game. Right now. Unreal Engine? Unity? Gamedot? Gamemaker? RPG maker? Source Engine?
Don't get me started on all the free shit, or pre-made shit that cut costs significantly. Or reusing assets you've had for decades.
Friendly reminder that Graphics never mattered and putting it ahead of even the simplest artistry and clarity has only increased budgets Absolutely Unneccessarily, and thus prices, arbitrarily, went up as well, but nothing gameplay wise has improved since Dark Souls at best. A game from 2011.
Friendly reminder that buying a game on sale is not "getting one over" on anyone but yourself. Companies, in fact, set these sales up themselves. All you're doing is delaying being a Pay Piggy Useful Idiot. But still choosing to be. Please. Please understand that companies set these sales up themselves. Please understand you're embarrassing as all hell thinking Sales are a gotcha for anyone but towards yourself from companies. Please understand that even if you pull the trigger, the industry held the gun to your head, and you didn't win anything. Please. Please grow the fuck up.
Friendly Reminder that these companies hire Addiction Experts to give you and children mental and financial issues so they can claim "disappointing" streak setting record profits again after a decade of doing this, it's never been subtle and not recognizing that gives me depression.
Friendly Reminder that just about every game company SA's their staff, overworks, underpays if at all pays, and in general blacklist and have pizza party layoffs for people Just Like You And Me, employees, workers, developers, whatever you want to say, they're on your level, not the CEOs.
Friendly Reminder that N64 cartridge prices are not, and have never, been legitimate arguments to increase prices without increasing literally anything else, from quality to content, to still having DLC and micros, the price increase was the consumer's demand of less for more. Utterly. Pathetic.
Friendly Reminder that you Do Not Have To Buy From Companies and this is the Last Industry With Ethical Consumption possible.
Friendly Reminder that there is No Other Regulator than the Consumer. You and Me. When you and I demand better for less, companies have no choice but to listen.
However.
Friendly Reminder: Guaranteed Sales have made this industry completely unfixable. You're either choosing to support an industry of sexual assault, regular assault, and horrific work conditions, or you know...just...just buy indie.
Really imagine a world where all ya had to do to lower sexual assault rates was...buy from Indie instead of actively supporting, defending, and enabling this horrific industry?
Friendly Reminder: You aren't going to fucking die if you don't buy that product, you're a human being respect yourself for fucks sake, companies abuse your lack of self-respect to get you to lower your standards.
Friendly Reminder: I haven't changed my stance since the early 360 years. Ya'll just helped companies move the goalpost. I didn't. Do better. Be better. You only benefit yourself, consumers, workers, and the art, by not supporting this dreadful industry.
Friendly Reminder: for the price of One (1) Triple A game, you can get 10 indie titles that are far, far superior, and will make an actual lasting mark on your life. Unlike anything triple a has put out in decades.
Friendly Reminder: In 10 years everything you did in Fortnite and Apex Legends, Overwatch etc, will be deleted. Gone. Nothing to come back to. All the money put in? Poof. Gone. Nothing to show but a receipt. Won't even be able to play the game anymore. It will live on in YT videos. A mere memory.
Stop buying from Triple A and FOR GOD'S SAKE, STOP DEFENDING THEM???!??!!!? I'd ask of the sex was worth it, but we both know these people will never get laid. They can't even respect themselves enough to not let a company fuck them in the ass one way or the other.
Incredible there's a hustle culture for gaming, with digital libraries. Imagine showing off how shanghai'd you were into giving away money to people already rich whilst you're poor and permanently sexless. Like congrats on throwing all resources into a bloated, dead industry kiddo, your mommy's credit card is gonna chargeback and your account closed. Losers.

101 Things You Should Know About the UK Tory Government
Thing 17
During Covid, Rishi Sunak lost billions of pounds of taxpayer’s money. It is estimated that £17 billion was lost in loans that will never be paid back, while almost £5 billion was lost to fraud. Further public funds were lost through the self-employed support scheme, 8.7% of furlough payments were given to fraudsters or made by mistake, in addition to 8.5% of payments to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.
“But rather than respond with robust measures when the scale of the fraud was revealed, the Treasury said it expected its anti-fraud taskforce to write off the payments lost to fraud. Treasury minister Lord Agnew accused the Treasury of having “little interest in the consequences of fraud to our society” and of making “schoolboy errors” over the awarding of loans". (BylineTimes: 03.11.22)
More recently, Conservative Prime Minister Liz Truss cost the country an additional £50 billion.
“Rishi Sunak is preparing years of tax rises for Britain in an effort to make up for a £50bn fiscal hole left by Liz Truss’s disastrous tenure in Downing Street, according to a Treasury insider.” (Guardian 31/10/22)
Who will pay for this repeated Tory economic incompetence? Bankers? The wealthy? Corporations making record breaking profits? The super-rich?
None of the above. Yesterday, Jeremy Hunt, Sunak's Chancellor of the Exchequer, made it perfectly clear who is to pay for these Tory mistakes:
“Families up and down the country have to balance their accounts at home.”
No one should be surprised by this announcement. It is ALWAYS ordinary working families that have to pay for Tory mismanagement of the economy. Bankers can have unlimited bonuses under Sunak’s government, and energy producers are allowed to continue to make obscene profits, but public sector workers must accept compulsory pay restraint and ordinary working families must “balance their accounts". Quite how people are to balance their household accounts while taking a cut in real wages while the already rich are allowed to make even more money hasn’t yet been explained.

Archivists are not librarians: Understanding the differences [Part 1]
Tumblr media
Ura's supervisor, in Pale Cocoon, asks him if archives are just lies. A very depressing anime, but also connects to a lot of archives issues.
Often in popular culture, archivists are portrayed as the same as librarians, with the worst example being Jocasta Nu in the Star Wars franchise, with other examples including Wan Shi Tong in Avatar The Last Airbender and Emily Quackfaster in DuckTales. Samantha Cross, an archivist who runs POP Archives, a website for which this blog was inspired by, has noted this confusion is present in Amphibia, The Smurfs, and Castlevania with archives being confused with libraries, and vice versa. Even the self-defined library of George and Lance in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power would tend to, as Cross points out, lean more toward something that is a museum or library than a library.
Reprinted from my Wading Through the Cultural Stacks WordPress blog. Originally published on Dec. 9, 2021.
Cross explained the confusion well in a April 2020 interview, saying she spends "a lot of time explaining what exactly it is I do because a lot of movies and television shows don’t understand my profession and treat it as synonymous with librarians." That is what I am going to try and do with this post, to the best of my ability. I know this post isn't truly about pop culture. I could care less about that because this is my blog and I'll write what I want on it, especially since this blog will be extremely scaled back next year as archives or archivists are not really popping up in anything I am watching. As such, I have been seriously questioning whether I should even keep this blog up or just discontinue it altogether, as I really want to keep this blog.
The SAA has broached this question in the past, saying that librarians and archivists both "collect, preserve, and make accessible materials for research, but they differ significantly in the way they arrange, describe, and use the materials in their collections. Materials in archival collections are unique and often irreplaceable, whereas libraries can usually obtain new copies of worn-out or lost books." But, there is more to the differences than this. It is possible, in today's job environment, that someone can have a hybrid position including qualities/responsibilities of being an archivist and a librarian at the same time. As such, in this post, I'm going to go through the generalities of each profession and note their job duties, while acknowledging that responsibilities of archivist can be different from each other, depending on employers, job circumstances, etc.
An archivist can work with paper documents, photographs, maps, films, computer records, manuscripts, and letters. They can also work with financial / legal documents, recordings of public speeches, electronic records, digital records, and reports. Finally, archivists can work with minutes, registers, sound recordings, websites, research data, and data sets. [1] These are just some of the types of records archivists can work with on a day-to-day basis.
A librarian, on the other hand, mainly works with materials like CDs, DVDs, e-books, books, and other materials, usually written. The BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook also describes librarians as creating and using databases with library materials, organizing library materials, helping library patrons conduct research, researching new materials and books, maintaining existing collections, and planning programs for different audiences. It is also noted that librarians teach classes about information resources, research equipment for purchase, train and supervise other library staff, and prepare library budgets.

Hey do y’all have any tips for new adults to plan budgets for actual grown up vacations? Everything I see is about how to stick to your budget or create room in a budget for Trip Money but nothing on how to decide I’m going to X for Y days and I’m not spending more than Z. My current idea is to just look at airfare and then make that roughly 50%? Idk i don’t know whats reasonable (I never know if tumblr eats my asks or if y’all are busy so feel free to ignore a duplicate message)

I stuck to my budget last month!!
I am on a fixed income because of my health problems, so I don’t make a ton, but I saved enough last month by being careful with money, that I can pay for a dental procedure, meet my deductible (which is not big, but still a chunk) and have a little spending money after my rent to buy stuff I need without overdrawing my account and getting a fee. I am proud of myself for making what I get work :D

“I think one think you’re forgetting is profitability. A show doesn’t have to necessarily have the best ratings, as long as it costs less than it makes. Thus, a less expensive but lower rated show could perform as well as a higher rated show, but that’s more expensive. Walker has a very tight budget. Rich talked about this in a KOC podcast. So it really just depends on how well it does. Walker and Windy also have the benefit of not being under the WB. But all have to perform well.”
I can’t tell when this comment was made and if it was made before or after my post on the expected budgets. I would love to get more thoughts and opinions about these issues from y’all, especially since we don’t have the actual numbers in front of us.
I also think that, once we actually get to watch the shows, then we’ll have a better idea of budgets.
One of the reasons that Supernatural survived as long as it did was because Bob Singer kept the budget down low. They had in house post production and developed techniques like the Poor Man’s Process for driving scenes that cut costs way down.
People complain about Supernatural’s monsters looking worse as time went on and a lot of that was budget related. Since Supernatural already had the audience, people didn’t mind that the monsters looked fake/cheesy the way they would if it was a new show.
Yes, Walker has a tight budget and a family drama is typically way less expensive than fantasy/scifi/horror, but they also have Jared. They likely spend less on Jared compared to what Supernatural spent - Jared has a house in town and they don’t need to pay for his plane tickets to and from Austin. There’s also rumors that Jared takes a smaller salary in order to retain rights that increase his overall income. I doubt Jared’s Walker costars earn nearly as much as Jensen, but the supporting cast of characters is much bigger on Walker than on Supernatural/TW.
When you look at the cast of Walker next to the cast of TW or Gotham Knights, I feel that there’s no way TW or Gotham Knights spends more on their cast than Walker. Windy also has some big names like Mark S and the cast seems to be doing more on social media. Not sure what that means.
Perhaps the TW Pilot doesn’t show the quality of the work for the rest of the series, but it looks cheesy/inexpensive. So yes, everything else being equal, Walker would be less expensive than TW or Gotham Knights to shoot based on genre, however the actors salary is a huge part of the expense of the show. Based on the look of the TW and Windy Pilots, I’d be very surprised if TW spent as much money.
With WB going the way it’s going, I wouldn’t be surprised if CBS and WB also have different calculations that they use to measure the value of a show.
Anon 2(?)
I previously thought GK had a really great chance as DC meets Riverdale. Throw Misha in to stabilize the SPN audience who might not get fed by TW or WI. But DC is now in such disarray, I'm no longer sure. People are just plain mad and might take it out on that series without cause. They did go to ATL to save costsBut they met Misha's salary ask, so there's that much at least.
Previously, I would’ve thought all shows had a good chance, but especially Gotham Knights, with experienced producers and CW’s reputation of renewing unless the show is falling off a cliff.
Misha’s salary is likely high, but he’s also not a lead, and they don’t have J2, so they’ll probably save money over Supernatural’s salary. GK can go different ways depending on the tone of the show. That’s why I feel like I have to see it before guesstimating budget. It could lean into the fantasy or it could lean into the relationships between the cast members.
Mergers are famous for killing shows; Supernatural almost died an early death due to a merger. Being killed in a merger doesn’t mean that the show didn’t have potential or worth. Had Supernatural been killed due to early their merger, we wouldn’t be here.

What Affects the Price of Burial Insurance Rates?
What Affects the Price of Burial Insurance Rates? What Affects the Price of Burial Insurance Rates? Life expectancy has soared in the United States, and there are more than 16 million people between the ages of 75 and 84.
