Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes x fem!reader, Steve Rogers x reader, Steve Rogers x OC, OC x reader
Bucky Masterlist
Summary: you and Bucky are apart of your best friends big day but how he acts makes you question your future together.
Warnings: angstyyy, marriage and weddings
Word Count: 2.0k
A/N: I’ve had this one in the drafts for a whileeeee but I’m glad it’s finally published :)
Tumblr media
You woke up to cool air, caressing your bare skin as you felt an empty bed. Turning over to see that your lover wasn’t in bed lying next to you. You grabbed your robe, wrapping it around you as you made your way to your living room.
You spotted him in the kitchen, his back exposed to you. Making breakfast for the both of you since you had a long day ahead. You tiptoed up to him and engulfed him in your arms.
“Good morning, doll.”
“Good morning, why didn’t you wake me?” He turned around and cupped your face, smiling from ear to ear.
“You looked too peaceful.” He says before placing a soft kiss on the bridge of your nose.
“Well, I don’t look peaceful when I’m rushing to get ready.” You complained, pushing him away to go sit down. He fixed a plate of food with a little bit of everything he made for you.
Today was the wedding of you and Bucky’s friends Steve and Marie. You have known Marie for as long as you could remember, you were so excited that she was getting married. Even more exciting, it was your boyfriend's best friend. Bucky and Steve have been friends for a long time as well, much longer than you and Marie. So it was nice to see your friends get married to each other. You’d hope that was you one day, finally marrying Bucky. Having the life you’ve always wanted.
“I guess you better eat quick then.” He smirked, placing the plate of food in front of you.
“I hate you.” You playfully snapped, rolling your eyes.
“And I love you too.”
You and Bucky had been together for about 5 years. A mutual friend suggested you go on a date and that’s when the relationship started to bloom. You went on dates multiple times a week, he’d bring you flowers, and bring lunch to your job. You were inseparable and madly in love. After a year of dating the both of you ultimately decided on moving in together. It’s been the two of you ever since.
“I don’t want to go to this wedding.”
“What- why not? Steve is your best friend, you’re the best man!” You exclaimed as Bucky sat down on the couch.
“It’s just not very exciting to me. I’m definitely happy for him though, spending the rest of his life with Marie.”
Bucky’s attitude towards weddings was all new to you. You had never seen this side of him and it worried you. What if he didn’t want to get married to you? You wanted to get married, you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him. But you didn’t bring it up, you’re just overthinking, of course he wants to marry you, maybe he’s just having a bad day, you thought.
Moving away from that conversation, you glanced at the wall to look at the clock. “Well we better get dressed, we have to be at the place soon.”
With that, you got up and got dressed. Bucky helped you with your dress zipper and you helped him with his tie.
You stood behind him, your head peeking out from the side of his shoulder. “Ready to be the best man at your best friend's wedding?” You beamed hoping to get him excited about the wedding.
“Yeah, I hope I’ll never have to do this again.”
Your heart dropped at the words he uttered. He hopes he will never have to do this again. Does this mean going to a wedding? Being in a wedding? What does it mean? You brushed it off, giving him a small smile before walking away. Hopefully, he just means being the Best Man.
He comes into the living room and his eyes scan you, up and down. “You look stunning in this dress, love.”
Playing off how you feel you responded, “Why thank you, you look pretty okay.” He gasps like he’s hurt and you peck his cheek, “you ready?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”
“You have the rings?” He nods, holding 2 small black cases.
———
You got to the wedding venue and said your hellos to the groomsmen and bridesmaids. Steve showed up with a big smile on his face.
“Hey, Buck, (y/n),” Steve said as you walked in.
“Hey, congrats again!” You hugged him before walking off to find Marie.
Bucky and Steve catch up until it was time to get ready. You found Marie in her dressing room alone. You walked inside, closing the door behind you before pulling her into a big hug.
“How are you doing?” She was nervous you could tell, all this wedding planning and walking down the aisle was getting to her.
“Hey, everything is going to go according to plan, your maid of honor is here.” You reassured her as you smiled. “Your big day is going to be amazing.” She smiled before pulling you into a hug.
“So let’s get you in your dress.” You said gesturing to her dress on the mannequin. You walked over to it, careful not to mess it up. “I know I was there when you picked out your dress, but your dress is gorgeous, Marie.”
“Thank you (y/n), maybe soon you’ll be doing what I’m doing,” Marie says cheerfully.
“I’m not so sure about that.” You said still looking at her dress.
“What do you mean?” She asked, coming closer to you, and turning you around.
“Marie, we can do this later, you have a wedding to get to.”
“No (y/n), what happened?” She was staring into your eyes, something she always did when she needed to get something out of you and it always worked.
“I think Bucky doesn’t want to get married.” Her eyes open wide at your statement.
“But he’s in love with you.”
“Not enough to marry me.” You say with a monotone voice.
“(y/n) I think you need to have a conversation with him about this. Have you actually talked about this with him?”
“No, because I didn’t want to be down on your big day. So we’re done talking about this. Time to get you in your dress.”
“(y/n)-“
“No. In the dress. Now.” You helped Marie into her dress and tied her up nicely. You got her veil and put the finishing touches on her outfit.
“And I said the dress was gorgeous? You make the dress look gorgeous.” She pulls you into a hug, smiling so big.
“I’m so glad you’re here (y/n).”
“I wouldn’t have dreamed of missing it.”
With perfect timing, there was a knock on the door. You opened it just a crack to see Bucky on the other side. “It’s almost time.” You ran to give Marie one last hug before leaving with him. He glanced over and saw your expression drop and it worried him a bit.
“(y/n), you okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. I just want Marie to have the best day.” He nodded, not pushing any further.
Marie and Steve didn’t invite many people, so the attendance was very small. Marie had 3 bridesmaids and you, the maid of honor. Steve had 3 groomsmen and Bucky, the best man. Steve stood at the altar with the 3 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen, along with the officiant. A big smile was painted on his face, he was about to marry the love of his life. He was so excited.
The venue was perfect and was exactly the way Marie would always tell you she wanted.
You wished this was in your future, but with Bucky, you weren’t sure. Someone gave you both the signal that it was your turn to walk down the aisle. You linked arms with Bucky and walked down the aisle, the door closing behind you. Reaching the altar you both went on your respective sides.
The big door then opened and there was Marie, her long floor length bedazzled white gown, shimmering as she walked down the aisle. Her bouquet is filled with her favorite flowers from childhood, sunflowers, and lilies. You glanced over at Steve and he was smiling so hard, his face could break. His eyes glistened with tears.
As she reached the altar, she handed her bouquet to you and the officiant began to talk about marriage. Then it was time for the vows, Steve and Marie wrote their own vows. They recited their vows and you were moved to tears. They were so in love, it was beautiful you thought to yourself.
Finally, they said their “I do’s” and kissed. The officiant pronounced them married and you handed her the bouquet before they walked back down the aisle, the bride and groom's party following.
After the ceremony, it was time for pictures and lots of them. Pictures with the bride, the bride's party, practically everyone. The wedding party went outside and began to take pictures. You were beginning to wonder when will it ever end.
“Is this the last picture?” You asked Marie after taking pictures for almost an hour.
“Yes (y/n), I promise.” She exclaimed, pulling you in for another picture.
After that picture, you went over to stand next to Bucky. “I’m so glad that was the last picture I’m starving.”
“I don’t see how someone could enjoy this.” He says, hands in his pockets, watching Marie and Steve take pictures.
“What? So making memories isn’t enjoyable?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“You were implying it.” Interrupting you both before this conversation could escalate, you saw everyone start to leave. It was time to go to the reception. On the way to the reception you and Bucky sat in silence, you were thinking about what he said. And him? He couldn’t wait to get done with this wedding stuff.
Once you got to where the reception was being held the wedding party got lined up for the bride and groom's big entrance. The groomsmen and bridesmaids went and did their dances before it was you and Bucky’s turn. You both put the things that were bothering you behind you for your best friend's big day and partied at the reception.
You and Bucky found your seats near the bride and groom's seats and cheered as they walked in. As they started to have their first dance you glanced over at Bucky and his face was so readable to you.
“So you’re just not having a good time?” You whispered angrily, close to his ear.
“The party is nice, I’m enjoying it.” He responded, still watching the bride and groom.
“I know you’re lying.”
“Why would I be lying?”
“Because you’ve been saying things about this wedding all day, Bucky. You don’t wanna be here.” You fumed, keeping a low voice so no one hears you.
“I just don’t like weddings (y/n).”
“What’s not to like? It's a beautiful ceremony.” Bucky shrugs and your heart drops more, “So you wouldn’t get married to me?” You said, now staring into his eyes.
“(y/n), where is this coming from?”
“So you were never going to ask me to marry you, that’s why you’ve never brought it up.” He stared at you with his mouth gaped open. That told you everything you needed to know.
He was about to speak but you beat him to it; “just forget it, Bucky, we’ll talk about it later.”
“No let's talk about it now since you’ve had such a problem with everything I’ve done today,” Bucky responded not letting the conversation go.
“Answer me this, do you or do you not, want to marry me.”
“Why are you this worked up over a sheet of paper?” Bucky asks defensively.
And at that very moment, that’s when you knew your relationship was over. His actions throughout the day showed you. He didn’t want to get married. That was never his plan. He didn’t see the significance of “some sheet of paper” like you did. You both want different futures, you wanted marriage, and that's something he couldn’t give you.

The Letter
Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes x reader
Bucky Masterlist
Summary: You find a letter that Bucky has kept from a girl from his past, you leave once you find the letter. Bucky finds you and explains himself.
Word Count: 1.4K
Warnings: angsty and fluff, mention of PTSD.
A/N: these dates might be off and if they are that’s my fault. (Felt the gif was a good fit) I thought of this months ago but never posted it. I’ll be honest this isn’t my best work :/
(y/m/n): your mothers name
Tumblr media
1943
“Mary, I have to go fight in the war.”
James Buchanan Barnes was going to war. Leaving his beloved friend, Mary. Knowing there was a possibility she’d never see him again she wrote him a letter.
Bucky was getting ready to go into the building which would deem him war ready. He stood there hand in hand with Mary.
“Here.” She places a letter in his hand. Bucky looks at the letter and goes to open it. “No not yet. It’s for when you miss home.” Mary hugs him one last time.
“You better not be stuck on Robert still by the time I get back!” Bucky calls out walking away.
“But he’s such a dreamboat, Bucky.”
“Bye Mary.”
“Bye Sarge.”
Tumblr media
1944/1945
Weeks went as Steve continued to play “Captain America” show after show and Colonel still didn’t give him a chance. After talking with Peggy, Steve finds out that Bucky and his regiment went up against Schmidt and only 50 came back alive. Steve and Peggy rush to Colonel Phillips and he gives him his condolences.
He decides that the colonel’s decision isn’t good enough for him. Steve infiltrates Hydra and rescues all the men captured, including Bucky. He finds him strapped to a table repeating his Sergeant number.
“It’s me”
“Steve?”
“I thought you were dead.”
“I thought you were smaller.”
Steve and the men make it back to camp, celebrating their win. He was out drinking with some of the men he saved from being captured, asking them to go back to fight. They all agreed to fight with him.
“How about you? You ready to follow Captain America into the jaws of death?”
“Heck, no. That little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight, I’m following him.” Bucky replies, “But, you’re keeping the outfit right?”
“You know what? It’s kind of growing on me.”
Steve digs in his pocket and takes out a wrinkled piece of paper. Bucky could recognize that paper anywhere. “I picked this up off the table, thought you might like it back.” Steve hands Bucky the paper and Bucky opens it, seeing some of the words are faded.

2024
You have been with Bucky for about 2 years. If you can say that’s 2 years. You became friends with him in 2017, and stayed with him in Wakanda. You started dating in 2018, and then you were both blipped when Thanos won. Now you’re back together, happy.
You were cleaning around your bedroom when you came across a piece of paper on your dresser. It isn’t normally there so it caught your attention. You opened it to see it’s a letter:
Dear Bucky,
We’ve been friends for quite some time. I wish you didn’t have to go but I know you have to serve our country. I’ll always be your friend and I’ll be here waiting for you when you come back. But I need to tell you something, I love you Bucky and I always have. So come back to me.
Love, Mary
‘Who’s Mary?’ ‘How old is this letter?’ ‘Why does he still have it?’ Not knowing any of those answers you started to pack a bag. Bucky had left just an hour ago to go to the store. You decided the best place to go was to your mothers house.
Why would he keep an old letter from a girl? Did he not love you the way you thought he did? Your head swarmed with thoughts as you ran out the house. You bought a bus ticket and rode it all the way your mothers house.
Bucky came home from the store to an empty house. He searched every room and no sign of you. You were always at home on Thursday evenings, waiting for him with the groceries. Worried about where you are, he left you multiple texts and calls.
Doll, where are you?
Are you okay?
(y/n) please call me.
You ignored his texts as you stayed at your mother’s house wondering where you went wrong. As you ignored his texts Bucky got extremely worried. Did something happen to you? Bucky contemplates what to do, that’s when he stumbles upon the open letter of paper from Mary and some thrown clothes on your shared bed.
Oh crap, Bucky thought.
He yanks his phone out of his pocket and calls a couple of your friends and gets nothing. Then he calls your mother, her being his last resort.
“Hey, Miss (y/m/n), have you talked to (y/n) today?”
“Hi Bucky, she’s in my living room right now.” Bucky sighs in relief knowing you’re okay.
“She was gone when I came home and I just got so worried.”
“Did something happen between the two of you?”
“I think she saw an old letter and decided to leave.”
“It was an old letter from the past, right?”
“Yeah it was, I’m on my way.”
After that call, Bucky grabbed his keys and the letter and headed to your mother’s house. Your mom loved Bucky despite his history. She’s always asking you when he’s going to be her son-in-law. It’s almost like she loves him more than you. Once she heard both sides of the story she understood where both of you were coming from. You needed to talk it out.
“(y/n), I think you’re misunderstanding this.” Your mom says setting a cup of tea down in front of you.
“But how? Why would he keep a letter from this girl from his past?” You question, not knowing the answer yourself.
“Honey, Bucky has been through a lot, everything in his life from his past that he once had, is gone, maybe he’s just trying to hold on to that little piece he has left.”
She’s not wrong. Everything from Bucky’s past is gone, except his PTSD and dog tags. He doesn’t have Steve, he doesn’t have a war to fight. That’s all he done for years.
“You think I should’ve heard him out before leaving?” You ask, looking at your mother waiting for more words of wisdom.
She smiles grabbing your hand, holding it tightly in her lap, “You will, I’m sure he’s on his way now. (y/n), Bucky loves you without a doubt. You should listen to what he has to say.”
You sat around talking to your mother catching up with her, you learned that she had done some renovations to the house and that she has been waiting for you and Bucky to visit. But on better terms. You were taking your cups to the kitchen when you heard the doorbell.
“I’ll be in the backyard.” You say, walking to the back door. Once you were out of view, your mother opened the door and there stood Bucky.
“Hi ms. (y/m/n).” Bucky says, smiling at your mother despite the situation.
“Oh, Bucky, come in.” Your mother ushers Bucky inside and he gets a glimpse of your things. “She’s in the backyard.” Bucky thanks her and makes his way to the backyard. He puts his hand in his pocket, fiddling with the letter. As he walked outside, his eyes immediately found you.
He walks over to you, keeping his space so he doesn’t upset you. “(y/n).”
“Do you love me?” You blurt out staring into his eyes. He was shocked you’d ever ask him that. Of course he loved you, he didn’t just love you, he was in love with you, he adored you.
“Wha- Of course, I love you.”
“Then why do you keep that letter from your girlfriend in the forties, Bucky, huh?” Bucky sighs, taking out the letter, handing it to you.
“Mary was my friend, she gave me this letter right before I went to war, told me to read it when I missed home. Yes I know there’s no war now, but Mary, she’s a part of what I can remember before HYDRA.”
“She’s a reminder of who I was, who James Bucky Barnes was. I know I should throw it out, but this little letter is all I have left.” Bucky confesses, watching your hands has you hold the letter.
“I’m sorry.” You utter, gazing into Bucky’s eyes.
“No, doll-”
“I need to apologize to you, I should’ve just talked to you about it instead of just leaving.” Bucky comes closer to you, holding your hands in his.
“I should’ve opened up to you about this.”
“Its okay. And I know I’m not any of your buddies, but I know who James Bucky Barnes is.” Bucky smiles resting his hands on your hips, “Is that right?”
“James Bucky Barnes is my 106 year old super soldier that I love dearly. He’s the kindest, loving, caring, strongest, sassiest, grumpiest, and handsomest man I’ve ever met.” You lean in and give Bucky a long apology kiss.
“Are you two staying for dinner?” Your mother called out from the backdoor, making you and Bucky break away.
“Mom!” You groan, amusing Bucky.
“We’d love to stay ms. (y/m/n)!”

Not So Secret Thoughts
Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes x fem!reader, (minor Steve Rogers x fem!reader)
Bucky Masterlist
Summary: You’re a new recruit with the ability to hear thoughts, but Bucky doesn’t know that
Word Count: 913
Warnings: fluff
A/N: I thought this was a cute idea. Second part?
The bold and italics shows when y/n is hearing other peoples thoughts
Tumblr media
It was day 1 in the Avenger Tower as a new recruit, you had always looked up to the avengers and now you could be one. You could finally be someone. You could finally use your abilities to help. You were standing outside the tower with your whole life packed into 2 bags, soon you were greeted by Steve, “(y/n)! Welcome.” She has really great potential…. (y/n) I know you can hear my thoughts.
“Hi, thanks.” You chuckle nervously, waving at Steve. You were nervous you were going to become an Avenger, and you just met Steve, someone who you idolized for so long. “It’s an honor to meet you Mr.Rogers.”
He chuckles a little, “please, call me Steve, we’re all on a first name basis here.” Steve took you into the tower and showed you around. It was pretty empty since the Avengers were out Avenging. He showed you every floor and how to get around. Steve then took you to your room, which was a few floors from the ground floor, you put your bags in and sat on the bed taking it all in. You were in the Avengers Tower, you were going to be an Avenger.
You ran out your room hoping to catch Steve before you left but you ran into someone and stumbled, “way to make a first impression, I’m sorry.”
You look up and make eye contact with the person you bumped into. It was James Barnes, The Winter Soldier, you gasped seeing him in real life.
“Don’t worry about it.” He says before continuing walking. I wonder who she is
You shake off that encounter and try to find Steve, you continue to walk around the building until you just give up trying to do it that way.
You close your eyes and try to focus on Steve’s voice trying to ignore all of the other voices overlapping.
“Will this work?” “What are you having for lunch today?” “I need to get my car’s oil changed.”
That’s when you finally heard Steve’s voice, “(y/n) (y/l/n).” You went to the floor he was on and saw him talking to Bucky.
“Uh hi, I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
Steve walks closer to you smiling, “no not at all, I found out you met Bucky.”
“Yeah, I accidentally bumped into him, sorry about that, again.”
“It’s alright.” Bucky smiles. She is so gorgeous.
You nod, smiling trying not to blush at Bucky’s thoughts. You snapped out of that and back into reality, “I just wanted to ask you about training.”
“Oh, yes,” Steve turns over to Bucky, “Buck, you should be (y/n)’s training buddy.”
Training Buddy? Oh no I can’t do that. “Oh, sure yeah I could do that.” Bucky responds, agreeing to the arrangement.
“Great. When should I be ready?” You ask, excited to start training.
“Tomorrow Morning.” Hopefully I can focus. Bucky thought.
“Okay, I’ll be ready, bye guys.”
——————
The Next Day
You wake up and start getting ready for training today and you wonder what Bucky will have in store for you today. You freshened up, got dressed, and headed down to the training area, Bucky was inside the gym with a punching bag. You could hear his thoughts from a mile away.
How am I supposed to train her? Does she know any combat? I don’t want to accidentally hurt her. Bucky thought.
You walked in and made your presence known, “good morning!”
“(Y/n), good morning, how was your first night?”
“It was good, the walls are very soundproof so I slept great.” You said as you stretched. Bucky didn’t understand what soundproof walls had to do with you sleeping well, but he shrugged it off anyway.
I guess I should ask her what she knows combat wise, Bucky thought.
“I know the basics like punches, kicks, stuff like that.”
Bucky was surprised to hear you answered exactly what he was thinking.
“Okay we can start with that.” Bucky brought the punching bag over and stood behind it, “kick the bag as hard as you can.”
You kick the bag a couple of times giving it your hardest, but of course you’ve never trained before so it’s all so new to you.
I wish Steve would’ve told me her powers before we started training. Bucky thought.
“I don’t think kicking and boxing is going to help train me.” You say, stepping away from the bag.
“Well that’s normally where we start with the physical training.” Bucky responds. She doesn’t have super strength, so what is it?
“Do you normally train new recruits?” You asked, curious.
Of course not, do I seem like I know what I’m doing? “No, that’s Steve and Sam’s thing.” But I do not mind training you.
“You don’t seem like you know what you’re doing but you’re trying, Steve didn’t tell you why he recruited me didn’t he?”
“No, he didn’t.” He’s gotta be punking me.
You smile before talking, “Yeah he was definitely punking you.”
Bucky’s eyes widened in horror, “you can hear my thoughts?”
“Yeah.” You say dragging out the word.
I’m going to kill him. Bucky thought.
“I just want to say that I think you’re handsome too,” you pause, smiling at Bucky, “and maybe you can still be my trainer. I need to figure out how to not listen to everyone’s thoughts.”
Maybe I won’t kill him. “Let’s get you some different kind of training, doll.”

Steve Rogers x Wife! Reader, Fem!Reader x OCs
Steve Masterlist
Summary: Steve's commitment issues turn his world upside down.
Word Count: 1.8k
Warnings: mention of divorce
A/N: I love nomad Steve <3
Tumblr media
I’m sorry I wasn’t here to drive you to school. You’ll do great on your assignment! Have a great day. I love you. Love dad
Love you bug, have a good day. Daddy will be home to play dolls as soon as he can.
Something came up and I had to leave really early. I love you, Darling, I'll pick up the girls and take them out for ice cream.
Those were the notes Steve left you and the girls today: another early morning and late night. Steve was always working but he never forgot the important things. He always made each note specific. You quickly put together your daughter's lunches, since you forgot to pack them the night before. You made sure to put their notes from their father and a note from you inside.
Once you finished that you went to finish getting ready so you would all be on time. After putting on your outfit and doing your hair, it was getting close to the time you needed to leave. “Sarah and Stephanie Rogers! Let’s go!” You called out, grabbing your things. Your daughters rush downstairs, with their backpacks in hand, ready to go. Both of them looked around searching for their father.
“Mom? Where’s daddy?” Stephanie asked.
“He had to go to work early today, he left a note in both of your lunchboxes.” You replied, ushering your daughters out the door.
Stephanie was a daddy’s girl. She was Steve’s mini-me. She was always trying to be just like her daddy. So his absences hurt her the most.
“So, Daddy said he’s going to pick you both up after school and take you to get ice cream.” You said ushering them out of the house and locking the door behind you. You got them in the car and drove them to school. The girls sat in silence as you drove, you knew exactly why. You hated dropping them off without them seeing their father, but you knew you had to.
After saying your goodbyes you headed to work. You had a typical desk job, as a Marketing Manager. You worked a simple 9 to 5, unlike your husband. Being at the company for over 10 years, you made your way up.
You trudged into work and went straight to your office. You weren’t exactly a boss but you had been working there for years when they promoted you. You placed your bag down and put your lunch in your mini fridge before looking at your unread emails. Click. Click.
It was normal for Steve to go in early for work, he’d wake you up that morning before leaving and tell you he had to go. He’d make the girls lunches and write them little notes to make them smile at lunch. He was a pretty great father for someone with an unexpected work schedule, but to you, it wasn’t enough.
“Rough morning?” You heard a voice, which you turned around to see. It was your work friend, Suzie. Suzie has been working there a lot less than you have, she transferred from another job in Ohio. Suzie was a few years younger than you, with no boyfriend, no kids, just Suzie.
“Steve went into work early today and of course the girls missed him, it was hard dropping them off.”
“Well, they know he’s fighting to protect his family.” Suzie insisted, but you couldn’t help but think how unfair it is to your daughters.
“Yeah. It’s just not fair to the girls, they deserve to be fought for,” you continued,” what’s new with you?”
“I came into work early, boss needed me. Been here since 7.” Suzie responded, glancing at her watch.
“Look at you being the boss's favorite.” You teased, making Suzie roll her eyes. “It's obvious you’re the favorite employee.”
“Please, that’s not true.”
“Suit yourself,” you shrugged, “well I hope you can get out of here at your normal time.”
Suzie got up and made her way to the door, “Me too, I’ll see you at lunch (y/n).”
“Yeah.” You were about to log into your computer when your phone rang, picking it up immediately and you noticed it was Steve. “Hey babe, is everything okay?” You asked, holding the phone to your ear.
“Yes, we’ve got it under control. Sorry I had to leave so early today, I hate to do this (y/n).”
“You could always quit.” You implied, making Steve silent on the other line.
“I know, I will. Darling, I have to go, I love you, and tell the girls I love them.”
“I love you too, I’ll tell them.” You responded before the line clicked. You sat back sighing, you really meant it when you brought up quitting. You brought it up once you got married, then had Sarah, and then had Stephanie. He repeatedly told you he would quit, but every time, some threat would come and make him put the suit back on. But what you didn’t understand, was why was he doing all of this when he gave the shield to Sam. Why does he have a stronger commitment to the shield he gave up, then to the family we’ve created?
You do the work that’s been assigned to you for the day and the next thing you know Suzie is knocking on your door reminding you about lunch. “Are we still on for lunch?”
“Yeah, yeah, come in, I've just been working trying to drown out my thoughts.” Suzie walked in with her lunch and sat in the chair in front of your desk.
“What’s going on?” Suzie asked concern laced in her voice as she placed her lunch down on an empty part of your desk.
“Steve’s not coming home tonight.” You replied nonchalantly. “He always says ‘he hates to do this’ which means he’s not coming home again.”
“You don’t seem too upset about that.”
Practically everyone in the office knew you were married to Steve. It wasn’t something you could hide. Suzie didn’t treat you any differently when she found out you were married to him. She didn’t see a reason to, she could care less about your Avenger husband.
“Well, it’s nothing new, I just hate it. I wish he’d just quit already.” You confessed, grabbing your lunch from your fridge.
“Maybe he just wants to make sure the world is in safe hands.”
“That’s no excuse, he’s been saying he’ll retire for years and then something comes up every single time.” You say aggressively opening your food and stabbing it with a fork.
Suzie didn’t know what to say, she didn’t know how to give advice on the situation. She just knew she wanted to be there for you.
“I can’t keep living like this, I can’t keep letting the girls go through this, their dad saying he’ll do this and that. When he doesn’t show up for days.”
“I understand, you want stability for your kids and Steve isn’t giving you that.”
“He’s not, and I’ve been overlooking it for the past 12 years but I can’t keep doing this anymore.”
“So, (y/n), this begs the question. What are you gonna do?”
“The girls and I cannot continue to be treated as second,’ you pause, taking in what you have to do, ‘I’m gonna file for divorce.”
You and Suzie spent the rest of your lunch looking up divorce lawyers in the area, hoping one would take on your case. You sat with the idea for the rest of your day, then remembered you had to pick up the girls since Steve wasn’t coming home. You quickly gathered your things and left work to pick up the girls. Their faces dropped when they saw it was you and not Steve, you didn’t take it personally, you just saw two girls who missed their daddy.
They got in the car and you began to explain to them that Steve wasn’t coming home tonight and you aren’t sure when he'll be back.
“Have you talked to Daddy today?” Stephanie asked, putting on her seatbelt.
“I did, he said he loves you both,” you reply looking through the rearview mirror. “Do you still want to get ice cream?” Stephanie shook her head and Sarah said nothing.
You hated seeing your babies so disappointed, you were tired of it constantly happening. You felt you couldn’t rely on Steve like you would in a marriage. It was just you on your own.
(edit)
It's been a couple of days since Steve left for work. You talked to the girls about relationships and marriages and their ups and downs. Just so they didn’t seem in the blue. You decided to come home from work because you weren’t feeling the greatest and to your surprise, Steve was home.
“Steve?”
“Hey, Babe, what are you doing home?” he smiles and wraps his arms around you, you too drained to hug him back.
“I was wondering when I was going to see you again.” You reply, getting out of his grip and dropping your bag.
“What do you mean?”
“What do you mean? What do I mean? You were gone for days with minimal contact!” You yelled throwing your hands up exasperatedly.
“ You know I have to do it for work-.” He defends, but you don’t want to hear it.
“Yes I know, work work work, but what about your family? The vows you said to me when we were at the altar. What did you say to me when I had Sarah and when I had Stephanie? What about the family we made?” You exclaim, pointing your finger in Steve’s face. “You told me you weren’t going to be in this life forever, and Steve here I am 12 years later. We’re still here! I’m still playing the role of a happy wife and mother while you’re out not helping me raise these kids you helped create!”
Steve inches closer to you with his arms out, hoping to calm you down, you back away not letting him touch you.
By now, you were so upset, tears were running down your face, you wiped your tears and looked into Steve’s eyes, “I do not deserve this. The girls do not deserve this. I deserve a husband who is fully present and the girls deserve a father who is fully present.”
“I can be that man,” he says.
“No, you can’t. You’ve proven time and time again that you can’t.”
“(y/n)-.”
“I’m filing for divorce.”
His face dropped and he went pale after he heard those words. He scrambled to come up with sentences, with anything, just something to say so you wouldn’t leave him.
“(y/n), please. I’m sorry.”
“It’s too late for sorry. I gave you 12 years and you’ve constantly let me down. I won’t have it anymore. Get your things and find yourself somewhere to stay for the next few weeks.”
“But (y/n), we can work this out, I love you.”
“If you really loved me, you would’ve chosen me and our family over your job.”

A/N: What do we think about Bucky after this part?
Tumblr media
It’s been a few weeks since your sick day. You were feeling a lot better. You knew that after that, you needed to find a better way to handle things.
“Canan, are you ready?” You called from downstairs. Canan came rushing down with his favorite car shirt and 2 small Hot-Wheels cars. “I’m ready!”
Bucky was taking Canan to his shop for the first time, and Canan was beyond excited. Of course, Bucky asked if Iris wanted to go, but she said she was not interested in dirty cars. Since school was out and it was the summer time, it was the perfect time for Bucky to spend the day with Canan.
Iris came downstairs after hearing Canan run down. Just wanting to see what was happening.
Canan was ready to go and now you just had to wait on Bucky. Soon you heard a knock on your door and it was Bucky, you said bye to the both of them as they left. You were happy Canan was close to Bucky, that’s his father, the very man he was named after. You wanted Canan and Iris to have a good relationship with him, but he definitely has to work harder with Iris.
Iris went and got dressed since she was spending the next few hours with Steve, he called after Bucky left. Since the job you have gives you the summer off, you were going to enjoy a child free morning and afternoon.
Meanwhile, Canan was having the time of his life at Bucky’s shop. He got to meet all of Bucky’s employees and ask them what they do.
“Your shop is so cool!” Canan says hugging on Bucky’s leg, “thank you for bringing me here.”
Bucky chuckles, and pats Canan’s back, “of course, son.”
Saying “son” felt foreign on Bucky's lips, son? He had a son, he felt like he was allowed to say that now. He was a father, but of course Canan didn’t know that yet.
“Hey, Canan, I need to make a phone call really quick, you can stay here with Oscar and he will show you how to do an oil change, sound good?” Bucky says crouching down to Canan’s level and looking back at his workmate. He nods understanding.
Bucky went to his office and closed the door behind him, still having a good view of Canan. He picked up his office phone and dialed your number. The phone rang and rang and rang until you finally answered.
“Hello? Who is this?”
“(y/n), It’s Bucky, I’m calling from the shop.”
“Oh, is everything okay? Is Canan alright?”
“Canan is fine, (y/n), he’s getting taught how to do an oil change right now.” Bucky laughs, making you smile.
“Yeah? Maybe he can change mine when he gets home.” You joked.
A brief silence comes between you two, you could hear Bucky breathing into the phone. Before you could say anything he blurts out, “Are you okay?”
You were puzzled by that question, “What do you mean by that?”
“I’m just asking if the mother of my kids is okay and I don’t want just some measly old answer.”
“I’m fine, but i appreciate you calling and checking.” You say making sure to sound as convincing as possible.
“Okay, well, I’ll get back to Canan, I’ll let you know when we're on the way back.”
“Thank you, bye James.”
“Bye.” Bucky hangs up the phone and went out to the garage to meet Canan and Oscar. “Hey Oscar, me and Canan are going to head out, thanks for showing him the ropes.”
Bucky and Canan head to the car, leaving to get ice cream.
Meanwhile, Steve had taken Iris for a couple hours and came back after.
Your relationship with Steve was slightly better. Steve didn’t say or do much because he didn’t want to push another boundary, but he was also pulling away from you. He saw what all the stress did to you and he did not like it. He didn’t want to create more stress for you.
“How about I go run some errands for you?”
“I’m not fragile, Steve, I'll go run my own errands.”
“I would never imply that you’re fragile, I was just wondering if you needed some help.” Steve says calmly.
“I guess, if you want to” You think about it for a minute then agree, giving him a list of things you need done. He happily smiled and accepted the list, “I’ll be back in a couple hours.”
——————————————————————————————————
For a few weeks, you and Steve got to know Mara and Steve was warming up to her. As time went by Steve started to accept the fact that Mara is a part of this new dynamic.
A few weeks later the kids were about to be out of school for the Summer, so you thought this was the perfect time to tell them the truth.
Bucky, Steve, and you were in the living room with Iris and Canan, preparing yourselves, mainly you and Bucky. Steve was just there to support, even though he wanted you to tell the kids that Bucky is their father a long time ago.
“So I have something to tell you both,” you pause, taking a deep breath, “you remember how I told you that your father isn’t around or you know how I don’t really talk about him.”
Iris and Canan nodded but were confused, to say the least.
“James, Mommy’s friend, he’s.. your father.”
Iris and Canan look at each other, realizing what this means. “We have a dad,” Canan says, looking back at Bucky.
Canan smiles as he realizes what this means, Iris wasn’t as excited as Canan. She understood what it meant, but she was just so used to calling him James. You then explained that she could still call him James because that's what she’s comfortable with and weren’t about to force her into calling him any different.
“Why did you leave?” Canan asks, looking at Bucky and then back at you.
“I left because I was scared.”
“Why?” Iris questions him, surprising you.
Bucky sighs, getting down on their level, “I was scared I wouldn’t be a good father to the both of you and I wasn’t ready.” All the memories of what he did flood his brain. ‘But, your mom,” Bucky holds out his hand, hoping you’d come over, which you do, “your mom is amazing, when I left she raised the both of you by herself with help from your uncle Steve.”
Silence overtakes the room, Bucky stays at the feet of Iris and Canan with sorrowful eyes. You stand next to him, watching. You didn’t want them to be hurt by their father’s actions so young, you didn’t think you’d have to tell them that their father left them at such a young age.
“Daddy, James, Me, I, love you both so much,” Bucky says not knowing how he should refer to himself. “And I am so sorry I left.”
The kids didn’t really understand what happened, just that they have a dad now. I mean how do you even explain the situation to a 5 and 6-year-old.
“It’s okay,” Canan says as he hugs Bucky. Iris just sits there, thinking about the situation.
Bucky smiles at them, happy Canan is open to forgiving him, but worried Iris isn’t. Bucky looks back at you for permission to tell them the news, you nod, letting him know he can. “Iris, you’re going to be a big sister, and Canan, you’re going to be a big brother,” Bucky reveals, showing them an ultrasound picture. Iris perked up a little, looking at the picture, curious, but she didn’t say much.
“Mom is having a baby?” Canan asked, confused, causing you to butt into the conversation.
“Oh no, not me, James, dad, his wife,’ you point to Bucky, “ is having a baby.”
“Oh.”
Iris’ eyes seemed to light up at the mention of a baby, she loved seeing babies at the park, at the store, so her excitement grew. She had so many baby dolls, it was ridiculous.
“Is it a boy or girl, dad?” Canan asks, hoping he’d say a boy.
“It's a girl, you’re going to have another little sister.” Bucky smiles, earning a smile from Iris but earning folded arms and a pouty face from Canan.
Both of the kids had a lot of questions, which was to be expected. Kids are curious. Bucky answered all of their questions as best as he could. They asked why Bucky didn’t live with the 3 of you. Why are you and Bucky not together? Like the kids' parents at school. So many questions, and so many answers. You had to answer a few of the questions because Bucky drew a few blanks, and Iris wasn’t really talking to him.
You revealed to Canan that he was named after Bucky, which took some explaining, but he was really happy to know that he was named after his father. Bucky tried to explain his absence in a way that they could understand, but deep down you knew that the truth would need to come out about why he left and what that would do to Iris and Canan.
“Mom, is uncle Steve leaving?” Iris asks, scared that Bucky staying means that Steve is leaving.
“Oh no, of course not honey.” You respond, looking into her eyes, “Uncle Steve and James are both staying.”
Steve overheard his name being used and came into the living room, “I heard my name.”
You got up and whispered to Steve what was going on and he immediately got down on his knees next to Iris. “I heard that you’re scared I’m going to leave, well I’m not going anywhere, okay, I love you, Canan, and your mom so much.” Steve sat with Iris, just to comfort her after all that just happened.
Bucky left the room and went outside for a moment getting some fresh air, Steve was with Iris and Canan was content so you slid outside behind him. “She’s going to come around, she thinks that you coming back means that Steve is leaving, she’s just scared, she’s not fond of change.”
Bucky was facing the street, with his hands in his pocket, shifting his weight onto one leg. “If I didn’t leave, I would know that.”
“You’re not wrong there, you’ve got a lot of making up to do for them.”
”I do, but what if it’s not enough.”
“That's for them to decide, but you have a while before that decision is made, come back inside.”
Bucky doesn’t budge, so you keep talking.
“Our kids have grown, and changed, they’re not 1 and 3 months old anymore. I don’t know how easy you thought this would be, but they’re not babies anymore.” You explained. “You can’t just waltz back into their lives and expect them to both welcome you with open arms, they don’t even remember you.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to keep doing that.” You empathized, “you don’t have to apologize all the time.”
He turns towards you and apologizes once more, more sincerely than the first one.
“Bucky-.” He interrupts you before you could finish your sentence, “(y/n), please, just listen to me.”
“We don’t need to talk about this right now.”
You tried to walk back inside your house but Bucky grabbed your hand before you could, “(y/n), you say I don’t need to apologize, but I will, I won’t stop apologizing for what I did, knowing that you might not forgive me for it.” he continues, “but I’m going to apologize and show I am sorry because I am.”
“I know.”
“You were always right, I could only commit to my shop, and not commit to you or the kids, I am truly sorry (y/n). When I met Mara, I saw that as my chance to start over and be better.”
Taking in all that he said, you nodded, before heading back to the front door, “come back inside, I’m sure Canan is waiting for you.”
You and Bucky went back inside, your eyes meeting Steve’s as he stepped away from Iris. Reassuring you with his eyes that Iris is okay.
Bucky stayed over for a little while after breaking the news to the kids. It was a lot harder on him than you thought it would be. The guilt was plastered on his face, an emotion you hadn’t seen on him before. You stayed with Iris as she adjusted to the news, she kept asking you questions once it was just the two of you.
You knew that this situation would be dreadful, the questions, the mixed responses, and you just wondering if you did the right thing. Wondering if you should’ve let Bucky back in, wondering if this is what’s best for Canan and Iris. You kissed Iris’ cheek and smiled, “I love you, Iris, and I know you’re not too happy with these changes, but it’s all going to be alright.”
Bucky and Steve stepped away to talk while you sat with Iris and you further reassured her. They shuffled into the other room to talk to each other with hushed voices.
Bucky starts, “Look, Steve, I know-.”
“I think I’m in love with (y/n).” Steve blurts out as Bucky’s eyes widen, but not with shock.
Bucky stops and sits down on the couch, ready to listen, a small smile on his face, “oh I hadn’t noticed.”
“Don’t act smart.”
“Since I came back I thought you had a thing for her, the protectiveness gave it away. If I looked harder years ago, I probably would’ve noticed it then.” Bucky admits, not surprised this information is coming from his former best friend.
“So you knew this whole time.” Steve scoffs.
“Yeah, Steve, we were best friends, I’m gonna know when you like someone, but I can understand you not wanting to confide in me, because I’m the guy who left his family and decided to come back, I get it.” Bucky confessed to Steve, “but you’ve been here since the beginning Steve, I know you don’t want to hear anything I have to say but I think you should tell her.”
“I don’t want to ruin our relationship, I mean you’ve done enough, bringing your wife and unborn baby into the mix.” Bucky nods as Steve continues, “what if she doesn’t see me the same way?”
“That’s the risk you have to take if you’re willing. All I know is that you’d treat her better than how I did, you’ve treated the kids better than I did. All I've done is mess up a bunch of lives.”

It’s been about a week, since Steve told you he knew about Mara, and you weren’t ready to talk to him. Though, you couldn’t avoid him because of the kids and he was coming over everyday. Finally you just gave in because you were tired of it.
“What are you doing here?” You asked, looking at Steve through the window on the side of your front door.
“(y/n), please, can we talk?”
“You had ample time to talk and now I’m dealing with 2 men who don’t know how to tell the truth from the get-go.” You spoke, not holding anything back.
“(y/n), I’m sorry, what can I do to say I’m sorry?”
“I know, I know, just where do I start.” He begs, knowing this isn't going away overnight.
“Well, since you’re here, you’re watching the kids today, I’m meeting Mara for lunch.” You said as you let him inside the house.
Steve was kind of shocked. Seeing that you were going to meet Mara for lunch, what he didn’t know yet was that Mara was pregnant and you intended to keep it that way for a while. “Oh, you must’ve enjoyed lunch with both of them.”
“No Steve I didn't enjoy lunch, I got to know Mara and Bucky did some explaining. Nothing about this situation is enjoyable. I just need more to work with and she invited me over to her house.”
“Oh, well, I’m happy to watch the kids.”
“I know, Steve,” you walked away before pausing, “I think it would be a good idea for you and Bucky to talk.”
“I don’t have anything to say to him.”
You didn’t feel like going back and forth with him so you just rolled your eyes.
Iris and Canan ran downstairs when you finished talking to Steve, “mom, are you going on a date?” Canan asked, catching you extremely off guard.
You cleared your throat, “No, sweetie, why do you ask?”
“You’ve been going to lunch a lot on Saturdays,” Canan observed, like the bright child he is.
“Oh, mom’s just hanging out with some friends, no dates.” You smiled, clearing up the situation before turning around and staring wide-eyed at Steve. “I’m going to go get ready for lunch.”
Once you were dressed you said bye to your observant kids and to Steve and headed to Bucky and Mara’s house. Dates? You thought. You never talked to either of them about going on dates. Must be some kids at school. Dating wasn’t really in the picture for you right now, you never really thought of dating someone after Bucky, I mean look where it got you. You’re a single mother with 2 kids and your ex-boyfriend comes back married and has a baby on the way.
You pulled up to Bucky and Mara’s house and you’ll be honest, it was beautiful from the outside. I guess this is the house that a company owner can buy. You got out of your car and knocked on your door, Mara opened the door with a huge smile, “(y/n)! Come in, come in.”
Mara went to the kitchen grabbing a glass, “Would you like something to drink?”
“Water is fine, thank you.” Mara hands you the water and invites you to the living room to sit. “Thank you for coming really.”
You sat down on the opposite couch as Mara sat down. “Thank you for inviting me, you have a lovely home.”
“Thank you (y/n).”
You sipped on your water a little bit before Mara broke the silence, “I know this is a lot, and if I were in your shoes, I’d have so much to think about and consider, so I get it.”
You nodded, happy she understands the situation you’re in, “thank you, yeah, I never thought Bucky would come back, and I definitely didn’t think he’d come back with a wife and baby on the way.”
“I can’t imagine what you’re going through, I just really want you to know that you’re a great mom, but I’m sure you already know that and I don’t want to cause any problems in your family and its dynamic. I’m just Bucky’s wife, but Bucky is your kids' father.”
“Thank you, Mara, but you're married to Bucky and you’re carrying their baby sister. I’m not going to take anything out on you because you didn’t ask to be in this situation, Bucky made this situation and you’ve been very kind towards me during all of this.”
Mara smiled. “Ever since Bucky told me about Iris and Canan, I have wanted to meet them. Bucky has shown me a couple pictures of them that he had,” she explains.
You’re puzzled for a minute because you didn’t know he kept some pictures when he left. “I didn’t know he took pictures when he left. What pictures did he show you?”
“It was a picture of you, him, and the kids. Canan looked about 1 and Iris was still a baby.” Mara responded.
You nod not recalling that picture but you couldn’t shake the fact that he kept a picture of the 3 of you.
“Looking at Canan I could just see how much he looks like Bucky, like his mini me,” she pauses, a grin rises on her face, “I’ve been impulsively buying them clothes.”
You smile at Mara trying to shake off the picture, “Oh god, they don’t need any more clothes, me and Steve buy them enough.”
Mara laughs, “let me show you.” Mara gets up and leads you down a hallway to a room all the way to the end. She opens the door and to your surprise, it's a bedroom for Iris and Canan. 2 beds against both side walls, 2 buckets of toys, and 2 nightlights in the wall. You continue to follow her over to the closet where she hands you a bunch of clothes on hangers. “It’s so bad, I buy them stuff when I shop for the baby but I didn’t know if it was appropriate to give them to you, considering the situation.”
“Mara this is extremely nice of you, you didn’t have to do this.” You explain, then gesturing at the room, “you didn’t have to do this either.”
“I want all 3 of you to feel welcome here, and when I talked to Bucky about changing one of the rooms into a room for them, he agreed. I just hope you don’t think I’m trying to butter you up or something.” Mara laughed.
“That's really nice of you both to do this, I’m sure they’ll love it when they see it for the first time.”
Mara walked out of the room and down the hall to another room, “this is the nursery, I can’t believe she’ll be here in just 13 weeks, we still haven’t thought of a name, it sure is hard naming a baby.”
“I remember that, when I was pregnant with Canan it went by fast, but when I was pregnant with Iris, it seemed like the days were so slow. Mainly because I had Canan and he was still really little. I spent a lot of time talking to Iris and Canan when they were in my belly,” you confessed, smiling. “Me and Bucky didn’t decide Canan’s name until he was already born.”
You noticed a shift in the air when you made eye contact with Mara. Bucky must’ve told Mara how he treated you while you were pregnant because she frantically apologized out of nowhere. “I just feel terrible about how he treated you (y/n).”
You shook your head, “There’s no need for that, he did it, not you. What he did is not a burden on you, Mara.”
She nods and just turns back to look at the nursery, thoughts swelling up in her mind. Silence fills the air for a minute then Mara remembers, she invited you over for lunch. “I don’t know what you like to eat so I didn’t make anything, but I can order you whatever you want.”
“Pizza? Do you like pizza?” You asked, knowing well about the nauseousness of certain foods while pregnant.
“I love pizza and so does the baby.” She giggled, walking into the kitchen to look for the pizza place’s number. You stayed there and gazed into the nursery, memories flooding your mind.
You were laid out on the floor reading the instructions to put together Iris’ walker. You groaned trying to figure out what piece goes where. Iris crawled over to you, babbling and smiling.
You sat up, putting her in your lap, “I’m trying to put your walker together baby, but I am terrible at this. We’re going to have to wait for Uncle Steve.” Iris giggled in response.
Mara ordered the food, 1 large pizza and breadsticks, while you looked over the baby names. Once Mara finished ordering the pizza she came over to you. “Before Bucky left for work he said he wanted to talk to you, I believe it’s about the kids.”
“Oh, okay, thank you for letting me know.”
You and Mara chatted until the pizza arrived and you tried to pay for it but she beat you to it. She set out some plates and the pizza in the middle of the table. The both of you washed your hands then sat there and ate Pizza while telling stories and just getting to know each other.
You found out that Mara is an only child, her parents had her later in life, she wasn’t planned but she was loved. She went to college to become a teacher, but she opted to run her father’s company instead.
“That’s a complete change in profession.” You commented before sipping your water.
“Yeah, I was against the idea at first, but my dad wanted someone in the family to run his company, since the ‘Charles Collins legacy must live on.’” She said, mocking her dad’s tone.
“Would you ever leave the company and teach?”
“I would, if it meant the company would be in good hands.”
You smiled as you understood where she was coming from, “I understand, it's your dad’s lifelong work.”
Mara nodded, “Yes, it's one of the reasons I go by my maiden name instead of my married name.”
You make a note after Mara tells you that. Maybe that's why Steve didn’t know they were married, because Mara goes by her maiden name because she runs her dad's company.
“What about you (y/n)? If I may ask? What do you do for work?” Mara asks after biting into a piece of pizza and swallowing.
“I’m certainly not a CEO of a company. Just your casual desk job that pays decently. Since I wasn’t thinking about college when I had Iris and Canan, I never went.”
“If you wouldve went to college what would you have studied?”
“I honestly don’t know, maybe something on the technical side, but I didn’t go because I already had 2 young kids at 23 and I was working full time. I just thought it was better if my kids had a mom that was there and made them happy.”
“Despite all that you’ve been through, you’ve made a successful life for yourself, I hope that your proud.”
“Thank you Mara.”
The more you spent at Mara and Bucky’s house the more you started to like Mara. She was an open book. Once you finished eating, the both of you started cleaning up the mess and that’s when Bucky walked in. He greeted Mara, and then said hello to you.
“I hope I’m not interrupting.” He says, taking his jacket and boots off.
“No, not at all, we were just finishing up lunch,” Mara says, putting the leftover pizza up. Bucky comes over to Mara, giving her a kiss and rubbing her stomach.
“(y/n), could I talk to you really quickly before you leave?” Bucky asked, directing his attention back to you.
“Yeah, sure.”
“Great, just give me 10 minutes so I can get all of this oil off.”
You agreed to wait 10 minutes and continued talking to Mara until Bucky came back in. Mara went to the nursery so you and Bucky could talk alone. You sat at the dining table and Bucky sat across from you.
“How was work today?” You asked, breaking the growing silence.
Bucky nods, “Pretty good, got a lot of customers today.”
“That’s good, I’m happy for you, I know how much you love that shop.” You pointed out, smiling.
“Thank you.” Bucky smiles. “So I wanted to talk to you about the situation when the baby is born, I have no legal rights to see Iris and Canan, and whatever you choose to do, I will follow because I lost my rights a long time ago.”
“Well, firstly, we will have to tell them who you are and who Mara is, and we’ll go from there. You can come by as much as you want, and then we can talk about them coming here.”
“Thank you (y/n). I don’t deserve any of this.”
“You’re right, Bucky, you don’t. This is for Canan and Iris’ sake, so they know their father.” You stated, letting him know how you feel, you continued, “What you did to me,” you paused, “ to our family, isn’t just going to go away overnight. I suffered because of your actions and I still do. I am a single mother because of you Bucky.”
“I know and you shouldn’t have to suffer because of me. If I would’ve manned up and been a father and boyfriend this would’ve never happened.” Bucky admits, running his finger through his hair.
“You got that right. If you actually cared and loved your family.” You snarkily replied, folding your arms.
“I did love and care about my family (y/n). I have always had love for the 3 of you.”
“So much you went off and got married and got someone else pregnant, that’s an excellent example to show how much you loved your son and daughter and how much you cared about me.” You continued, “Mara told me you kept pictures of the kids. Why?”
“So I’d come back.”
“So you kept the picture out of guilt. You wanted yourself to feel guilty enough so that you’d come back and be a father. Bucky, that's pathetic. Did you come back out of guilt?”
“No. I didn’t come back because I felt guilty. I did, but not like that. I didn’t want me and Mara’s baby to have a father and not Canan and Iris. I felt guilty and wrong for abandoning my children.”
“But not me? Not the woman who carried and birthed your children. You didn’t feel guilty abandoning her?”
“(y/n)..”
“Actually no, I don’t want you to answer that.”
Bucky didn’t know what to say, he didn’t know if anything he could say or do would be enough. You and Bucky sat there, looking at each other as you felt your face burning because of how upset you are.
You waited a few seconds before asking him another question. “So after you left us what did you do? Because I’m sure your parents didn't take you in.” You weren’t holding anything back at this point.
“I was working. That’s all I really ever did. That’s why my shop is more updated. I worked and worked until I had enough money for renovations. I was getting tired of looking at the same old shop.”
“The one that had all the memories of when I would come to your shop and have lunch with you.” You responded in a low voice.
“It’s not like that (y/n)-.”
You stopped him before he could say anything further, “You don’t have to plead your case to me, it’s obvious you wanted to forget me but remember the kids.”
A brief silence washed over the both of you before you spoke again, “Bucky, I’ll be honest, I don’t know if I'll ever forgive you, but I will move on, for the sake of our kids, and your daughter.” In all honesty, you were hurt then and seeing him come back hurts now. You wonder, why, but you’d never ask. You know why, he just left because he was a coward, and that's good enough for you.
After a long dreadful conversation between you and Bucky, you were just ready to go home to your kids. You said bye to Mara, thanking her for lunch, and she made sure you hand you all of the clothes she bought and give you a hug. You said bye to Bucky before leaving.
You quickly drove home and Steve’s car was at your house, lunch must’ve ended early. You grabbed the clothes Mara gave you as you knew you couldn’t avoid the conversation that was coming up. You walked into the house, putting the clothes down, Iris and Canan running to hug you. “Hey you two, did you have fun with Uncle Steve?”
“Yep!” Iris yelps and Canan nods, seconding her response.
“That’s good, I’m happy you two had a good time.” You smiled before kissing their cheeks. Iris points out the clothes as you put them on the dining table, “are they for us momma?”
“Yes, I got them from a friend, a gift to the both of you.” You said to Iris, since Canan was already gone. You could hear a light scoff from the living room as you showed Iris the clothes.
‘We can put them in your dresser later, okay?” Iris nods and runs back into the living room to watch tv. Steve pops up off the couch and meets you in the kitchen, “how was lunch?’
“I heard your little scoff, don’t act like you’re actually interested in how lunch went.”
‘I am actually interested in how lunch went, (y/n), why wouldn’t I be?”
‘I am not about to argue with you when my kids are in the next room.” You spat, lowering your tone. “I am not about to do this. I am not in the mood.”
“So you can hear Mara and Bucky out but not me?” Steve asks, making you roll your eyes.
“I can’t believe you’re playing that card,” You snicker, “stop acting like you’re mister perfect, because you aren’t. Mara, on the other hand, has been great during this whole ordeal. She bought my kids clothes and made them a room at her house. Which she didn’t have to do, but she did.”
“I just wanted to protect you from him, I didn’t think he’d stay.” Steve said, defending his actions. “He’s caused enough pain.”
“Steve, I love you, I do, but that is not your choice to make, you could’ve told me Mara existed months ago and you didn’t.” You snap, facing away from him and holding your hands behind your head, “do you know exactly what you did, Steve? You kept important information from me, and why? Do you even have an answer as to why? Bucky had an answer to why.”
Steve shook his head and looked away. He knew why he did it, he just couldn’t tell you. He didn’t know how. Either way it wouldn’t fix the situation.
“I don’t know how I’ll move past this, I don’t know if we can, Steve.”
‘You did it with Bucky.” He whispers under his breath, just enough so you can hear.
“Steve. Yes, I told Bucky I would move on, but you have no idea what it took for me to say that, to do that. He left me and the kids, and not only did he leave, he came back. He brought back all that rage that I shoved down deep for their sake, and you, Steve. You’re supposed to be supporting me, not making things worse, not leaving me in a position where I don’t know if I can trust you. My best friend.”
“I’m sorry, but (y/n), you can trust me, I just want what’s best for you, Iris and Canan.”
“So do I, Steve, they’re my kids.”

Tumblr media
The kids are finally asleep, you get some time to yourself. You turn on the shower and get inside and cry. You cry your eyes out until you can’t cry anymore. All these memories that you pushed deep down, coming back up now that he’s here.
Why is this happening to me? You think, what did I do for this to happen? You thought you would live happily ever after with Bucky and your kids, that’s what you’ve always wanted for yourself. A stable job, happy marriage, kids. Well you got 2 of the 3.
Your mind was flooding with doubt and anxiety. Was this the right thing to do? Was it good for the kids? Was it good for you? Was Steve a good enough father figure for them? Would they want to know their father in the future if you didn’t tell them Bucky’s their father?
All this anxiety that was welling up in you for weeks finally exploded. You started to think about your life before all of this happened, you weren’t this stressed and worried about doing the wrong thing. You and Steve were on good terms. Everything has changed.
You could remember the day he left like it was yesterday, you came home and all his things were either gone or on the floor. He left and he didn’t leave a note or anything, he blocked your number and Steve’s number and fled.
You got out of the shower and stared at yourself in the mirror, the bags under your eyes more prominent, the weight you’ve lost over the past few weeks from stress. Your peaceful life has been flipped upside down within months and you’re still wondering if you’re doing the right thing. Steve has been lying to you and Bucky has been truthful, what a change of events. Steve, your best friend, a liar?
‘I want you to meet my best friend, Bucky.”
“As a friend or are you trying to set me up Steven?” You questioned.
“However you want to see it.”
Steve took you to a well-known restaurant in the city. You sat down and waited for Bucky to arrive. After getting your drinks a tall lean guy with brown hair walked in, Steve waved him down and he walked over.
“Hi, I’m James, but my friends call me Bucky.” He says smiling at you. He was wearing a uniform which looked a lot like a military or army uniform. He sat down across from Steve and took of his hat and placed it beside him.
“You’re in the army?” you asked.
“Yes, what gave it away?” He joked.
“I’d say the hat and badges.”
“Right, yes, I’m in the army.
19 year old you liked Bucky. You thought he was funny, charming, smart, the whole nine yards. Maybe Steve has good taste you thought.
You, Steve and Bucky chatted the rest of lunch until Bucky had to leave. He wrote his number on a napkin so the both of you could meet later, without Steve around.
You smiled and folded the napkin, putting it into your pocket.
“You sly man, you knew good and well that was literally my type.”
“I never said I was trying to set you up, I just said you should see it however you want to see it.”
You rolled your eyes and smacked his shoulder, “whatever.”
You got dressed and laid in your bed pondering your decisions the past few years. Should you have believed he would change? Should you believe it now?
Now he’s back and he’s so happy, you hate it. You hate seeing him happy. He doesn’t deserve it.
Almost every night for weeks after he left you cried, wondering was it your fault he left. Did he not love you? Did he fall out of love? Was he disgusted by your body? You questioned everything. You didn’t know what to believe, but you got through it. Now that feeling is back. Now you want to crawl into a hole and don’t come out, but you know you can’t do that. You have to be strong for your kids.
You decided to ransack your room to find your photo album, the one you hid from the kids, the ones that have photos of Bucky in them. You searched for hours until you found it, deep in your closet.
You dusted it off and brought it to your bed. It was pretty thick, and had a light blue cover that said “family.” You opened the first page and your eyes saw the first picture, the ultrasound picture of when you found out you were pregnant with Canan, along with 2 pregnancy tests.
You smiled, remembering how happy you were to become a mom, you wanted to give your kids everything you never had.
You flipped through the pictures some more until you got to Iris’ section of the book. Then, there was the photo. The photo of you, Bucky, Canan and Iris. A few weeks after Iris was born, Steve took the picture and got it printed out, making a couple copies.
Why did he take this picture? You thought, why take the one with you in it? Why not the one with just the kids? Before you knew it you fell asleep, exhausted, tired of dealing with everything.
Your sleep didn’t last long once your alarm went off. You woke up and called Steve, hoping he’d pick up. After a few rings he picked up, confused as to why you were calling him so early, “everything alright (y/n)?”
“I need you to take the kids to school today, please.” You requested.
“Yeah, sure, of course, are you okay?”
“I, I, need a day.” You confessed.
“Okay. Alright. Yeah I’ll take them to school, should I pick them up after?”
“If you can.”
“Sure, I can. I’m on my way.”
“Thank you, Steve.” You sighed into the phone before hanging up. You went into your bathroom, pulling yourself together before going to wake up the kids.
You went down stairs and made their lunch as they did their morning routine. You finished up their lunches when there was a knock on the door, Steve.
You let him in and handed him the lunch bags, “thank you so much Steve.”
“No problem ,(y/n). Are you okay?”
You nod not verbally answering him because you know you don’t know how.
The kids finally come downstairs and eat breakfast before saying goodbye. Steve told him that he’d be picking them up today and dropping them off, which they were so excited about.
You waved as Steve drove off with them in the car and once they hit the end of the street you went inside. You called your boss letting her know you can’t come in today.
You grabbed your favorite snack from the kitchen and plopped on the couch to watch your favorite show. Less than 30 minutes later, Steve was walking inside your house with donuts.
“I brought donuts.” He says taking his key out the lock.
“You didn’t have to do that.” You responded by not moving from the couch.
“I know, but I wanted to, you seem like you’re having a rough morning.” You cackle at his comment. You were having more than just a rough morning.
“I didn’t mean to laugh, sorry.” Steve took off his jacket and came over to the living room, seeing you up close. He saw the bags under your eyes, how red your eyes were and just how exhausted you looked.
“(y/n), what’s going on?”
You chuckled, “What isn’t going on? Hmm? My ex boyfriend/baby daddy came back with a wife and a baby on the way. And! You gotta wait for this part. He kept a picture of me and the kids with him once he left.”
Steve didn’t know what to say. You were obviously not okay. Steve got up and got the donuts and sat them next to you. “(y/n). I’m sorry.”
“Everybody’s sorry nowadays,” you pause, taking in a deep breath holding back a sob, “why’d he have to come back? Why’d he have to mess up everything I did for myself?”
“I don’t know (y/n), but you don’t have to go through with any of this.”
“But I do, what if my kids grow up and find out about Bucky, Mara, and the baby and how I kept that from them?”
“They’d know you were just protecting them.”
“You can’t speak for them, Steve. You don’t know what they will be like in the future.”
Iris came down stairs after finishing her homework to talk to you,
“Mom, I met a girl at school today, her name was Clara, I noticed she looks a lot like Canan.”
“Oh maybe, you’re related somewhere down the line.” You reply not looking up from the vegetables you're cutting for dinner.
“No mom it’s not like that, they look so much alike, almost identical. Clara Is about 5 years younger than me.”
“Like I said, maybe some genetics down the line.”
“I think she said her last name was Barnes? Me and Canan’s last names are (l/n)- Barnes.”
“Yeah, maybe she’s a cousin.” You shrug, hoping she’d leave the conversation alone. Just when you were about to start talking again, Canan came downstairs, and stood next to Iris.
“Tell me about dad.” Iris demands, standing at the edge of the counter.
“Why? No good will come out of it, Iris.”
“I deserve to know about him. I don’t know about him and I hate that, mom. I just want to know who I am.” Iris explained, looking into your eyes with so much curiosity.
“He wasn’t anyone important.”
Canan cuts in scoffing at your response, “Anyone important? He’s our father.”
You sighed knowing you weren’t getting out of this, “so me and your father knew each other when we were very young, we moved into this house and we were together for a while, then I became pregnant with Canan and then you Iris.”
“What happened after that?” Iris asked.
“He left.” You said, as you stopped cutting the vegetables and looked up at your daughter.
“So, it’s possible, me and Canan might be related to Clara.” Iris points out, using a tone in her voice you cannot recognize.
You clear your throat, “maybe.”
“So you kept the fact that our father is alive and that we may have another sibling or siblings.” Iris continues, “so you just decided that you’d keep that from us. Were you ever going to tell us?”
“I was trying to protect the both of you.” You shake your head knowing this is a mess.
“You know I’ve always had issues growing up without a father, and you just chose not to let me meet him?” Canan asks, shaking his head.
“Steve was here. I wanted to protect both of you. I love you both and I did not want either of you to get hurt by him.”
“You we’re protecting yourself. He left you mom, and you didn’t want to have to bear to see him again so you just never told us about him. I could have a sister, a sister I’ve always wanted and you kept that from me.”
“Iris..”
“No. No. I can’t believe you’d keep this from us.”
“Iris, honey, please-.”
Iris walks away, leaving the kitchen and running up the stairs, “No.”
“Canan, please, let me-.”
“I don’t want to hear your excuses mom.”
You jolt awake, your eyes wide as can be. You don’t even remember falling asleep. That dream was so real you thought it was actually happening. You thought your children were pissed at you for a decision you made that impacted their entire life. You looked on your side table and saw Steve had left while you went to sleep, he left a note.
You went to sleep so I left, almost time for me to get the kids - Steve.
You pulled yourself together and shook off that dream. You didn’t want that to be their future. You didn’t want them to be upset with you for not giving them all the details.

Slow Mornings
Tumblr media
Dad!Bucky Barnes x Mom!Reader
Bucky Masterlist
Summary: You and your little family have a slow morning.
Warnings: just fluff
Word count: 705
A/N: dad Bucky is my favorite thing :(( hope you guys like it :)
(y/d/n): your daughters name
Tumblr media
You woke up to the smell of cinnamon and a quiet house. Something that wasn’t common with a new baby. You looked over on Bucky’s side of the bed but he wasn’t there, nor was your daughter.
You took your time this morning, showering, washing your hair, your whole morning routine before heading into the open space of the apartment. Bucky was asleep on his back on the couch with your daughter sprawled out on his chest. Your heart swelled just watching them, you tried to be as quiet as possible as you went into the kitchen and poured yourself a cup of coffee, fixing it the way you like.
Once you turned around, Bucky had slowly gotten up and put your daughter in her playpen. He came over to you, kissing your cheek, “good morning, beautiful.” You smile leaning into his touch, “good morning, thank you for letting me have a nice slow morning.”
“Of course, you deserve it, you did all the work, so it’s the least I can do.” he responds before kissing your temple.
You grabbed Bucky’s hand, going back to the couch, sitting down to watch (y/d/n) sleep. “She looks just like you when she’s asleep.” You commented, looking over at her.
“Yeah, but she snores just like you.” Bucky jokes, making you nudge him.
“So this is how we’re starting the morning,” You rolled your eyes, sipping your coffee.
Bucky just chuckles and kisses your cheek, “It’s almost time for her to eat again, I’ll get her bottle ready.” Bucky got up and got (y/d/n)’s bottle and then found his spot next to you. You finished your coffee and picked up your daughter, gently waking her up.
Her eyes slowly opened and the two of you made eye contact, “hi baby, hi.” She smiled seeing you, grabbing at your face. You played with her for a little before giving her a bottle.
Bucky watched you in awe as you fed her, the same look he gave you when she was just born. He always gave you the same look of adoration. Bucky didn’t think he’d be a good father, he didn’t think he’d be a good husband either, but of course you’ve reassured him everytime he had doubts.
“She’s definitely going to be a daddy’s girl.” You comment, burping (y/d/n) after she finished her bottle.
“I’ve always thought she liked you better than me, I mean you are her mom.” Bucky comments.
“You two have been sprawled on the couch more times I can count, and when she's upset, you calm her faster than I do.” You smile as she finally burps. Bucky wraps his arm around you, pulling you closer to him, wanting both of his girls close. “She just loves her daddy, she always kicked whenever you talked to her in my stomach.”
“Okay maybe, but I think she likes us equally.”
“You are the most stubborn person I know.” You groaned.
You and Bucky sat there holding your daughter and just spending time together as a family of 3. You didn’t get slow mornings like this with Bucky and your daughter often so you always enjoyed them. Bucky often had to work overnight and you worked during the day, and you often had to hire a sitter when the both of you were gone. So a morning like this was everything. Bucky’s eyes started to get heavy as the apartment was quiet, just filled with baby coos.
“I made cinnamon rolls.” Bucky says in between yawns. Bucky leans over on his side of the couch, closing his eyes as his head hits the arm rest. You chuckle, looking back at (y/d/n), “You made daddy really tired huh?” You got up with her and went into the kitchen to taste the cinnamon rolls Bucky made. You put your daughter in her chair that she normally sits in during dinner and snacked on your cinnamon roll.
You saw Bucky moving around before he got up from the couch, stretching and heading towards the bedroom, pausing before walking in. “We should have another baby.”
You fought a laugh from coming out of your mouth, “Go lay down, babe, you’re tired.”

Talk to Me
Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes x reader
Bucky Masterlist
Summary: You get self conscious over your relationship with Bucky and he reassures you.
Word Count: 848
Warnings: mention of not feeling good enough, reader avoiding Bucky
A/N: something short and sweet to make up for the lack of posts <3
Tumblr media
1 year. That's how long you and Bucky have been together, but for the last month you’ve been rethinking everything. Were things going too well? Does Bucky not love you like he used to? Are you not good enough for him?
Bucky had noticed you had been distancing yourself for weeks. Saying he was worried was an understatement. He gave you time to figure it out yourself until he couldn’t anymore. Bucky understood that sometimes you just wanted to handle things alone before talking to him about it, which he respected, but he wanted to help.
He followed you into your shared bedroom, sitting on the bed. “Hey, (y/n) please talk to me.” He begged, grasping hold of your hand, which made you shake him off. “(y/n)?”
“There's nothing to talk about.” You responded before heading into the bathroom and closing the door. Bucky rubbed his face and sighed, feeling defeated, but wasn’t about to give up. Seeing his favorite person hurting was the worst thing.
He stayed in the room, waiting for you to come out and once you did he quickly stood in front of you, “(y/n), doll, please.”
You didn’t budge, you went to your dresser and put on some clothes so you could leave. Bucky stood there watching you, once again, not knowing what to do. You barely spoke to him. “(y/n), can we please just talk?”
“I’m going out, don’t stay up and wait for me.” You spoke, not looking him in the eye. “I don’t know when I’ll be home.”
“(y/n), It’s 9pm on a Monday, where could you possibly be going?” He questioned, his tone a little angrier than before.
“It doesn’t matter, I’ll be back.” You said, walking out of the bedroom and out of the apartment.
Bucky sat on the bed, confused if he did something to you to make you act like this. He thought about everything he’s said or done in the past 3 weeks that could’ve hurt you. It was driving him crazy, he just wanted you to talk to him.
That night you didn’t come home until 1am. You trickled in as quietly as you could but Bucky still heard you, waking up at the sound of you walking on the creaky floor. “(y/n)?”
You didn’t respond to him, you just stood in the doorway, the lights still off. Bucky had sat up and was looking at you. You came from the doorway and gave Bucky a bag then went to get ready for bed. Bucky opened the bag and saw a bag of M&M’s, a candy he liked. He smiled, placing the bag on his bed table.
Bucky turned over to the bathroom, once he saw the light turned on, “Thank you for the candy, can we talk?”
You turned off the light and got into bed, “I’m fine, Buck.”
Bucky didn’t believe you at all. You weren’t fine. Bucky tried to wrap his arms around you but you pushed him away, laying on your side away from him.
For weeks he continued to try to talk to you and understand what’s going on but you continued to avoid him. You wouldn’t show him any affection or talk to him, you simply were just two people who shared an apartment. At this point he knew he needed to use some drastic measures.
Bucky woke up 2 hours before you normally did, knowing you’d try to leave. He sat down in the living room, waiting for you. Once you woke up, you didn’t seem to notice he wasn’t there so you just went along with your morning routine. Bucky came back into the bedroom, closing the door, giving you nowhere to turn.
“(y/n), we need to talk.”
“Let me out, Bucky, I have to get to work.”
“Call in sick.”
“Bucky.” You begged, trying to get past him.
“I just want you to talk to me.” Bucky says, looking into your eyes, hoping you’ll open up to him. You stop trying to leave and sit on the bed, looking at the floor, “I’m sorry.”
Bucky quickly sat next to you, wrapping his arms around you, “It’s okay.”
“I’ve ignored you for weeks, that's not okay.”
“Why did you?” He questioned, rubbing your arm gently.
“These past few weeks, I’ve been having some thoughts,” you paused to hold onto his hand, “really bad thoughts and I let them get to me, I’m so sorry.”
“You don’t need to be sorry for that (y/n),” he turns you around so you’re facing him, “I get thoughts like that too, but what do you always tell me?”
“To talk about it.” You sniffle, wiping your nose on your sleeve.
“You’re not doing this alone (y/n), I’m here for you, the same way you’ve been here for me.”
“Thank you.”
Bucky just smiles and kisses your forehead lovingly before wiping your tears off your cheeks. “Call your boss and tell him you’re sick, me and you are spending the day together.” You smile, leaning against his chest, “I love you.”
