me ripping out obviously hotchniss moments from jemily stans’s cold dead hands: MINE
I saw a post where someone said Emily was staring at JJ at Haley’s funeral??😭 Hello she was looking at her mans 🤨
This was inspired by the season 7 jet scene bc I just saw someone saw it’s a jemily moment😀 hello she and hotch were literally about to kiss
Ha oh god.
I honestly hate that jet scene as a Hotchniss moment AND as a Jemily moment. I can see it for both, because if you take what she's saying at face value, he's asking 'how did you get by?' and her answer is having contact with JJ. And of course there's those super warm smiles Hotch and Emily share.
But it doesn't make any sense for them to keep in touch that way - it's reckless and stupid, and I have a hard time believing either of them would've compromised something so high stakes. It makes me like them less as people and as a ship to think they did that, so I just. . . don't. And I also think there needs to be an actual answer to how she got by in Paris, or (preferably) some kind of admission that she kind of didn't - it was hard, and lonely, and she missed her friends, and everything wasn't okay then and isn't okay now. I think it was a bit of lazy writing, to make us feel like being smuggled away to Paris while still physically recovering from near-fatal injuries to hide all alone for months from the terrorist who nearly killed her was not a trauma, so it's fine that the show doesn't deal with it. So I kind of ignore the actual content of the scene - it doesn't make sense to me, and I think it's tonally weird considering the subject matter.
I think everyone is looking at Hotch during Haley's funeral, because how could you not be? It's devastating, and he's devastated, and they all care about him so much. I struggle with the 'truther' vibes of some of the Jemily section of the fandom a little bit, but I did used to write some Jemily back in the day, and I can kind of see it early on. But to me it's kind of the same vibe* as when people try to prove that Hotch and Emily were literally secretly in a relationship during S4-5 and here are the breadcrumbs the show dropped to prove it. . . Like, it's fine to write around what's in the show, to see the little moments and build on them, but the show is not trying to drop breadcrumbs for us to pick up on to plant the idea that they're in a relationship off screen - if they wanted the relationship to be canon, they would write it.
I think shipping is at its best when everyone just admits what we're doing is making our dolls kiss the way we want - it doesn't need to be more canon or more right than anyone else's ship, it just needs to be the one we personally enjoy. You can ship the same character in more than one ship, you can ship two characters who never even met. . . literally whatever you find enjoyable. And what's even better about it than smushing dolls together is there are infinite dolls - my Emily can be kissing Hotch and someone else's can be kissing JJ and someone else's can be starting a new life under the sea and it's literally fine.
I think what I kind of struggle with is when people watch the show looking for only their ship. Like, it's valid to watch the show however you watch it, but those are the posts I personally find grating. So like, Emily and JJ giving each other the eyes at Haley's funeral - I think that undermines the love and respect and friendship they all feel for Hotch. I've been at a bunch of funerals, and I wasn't like. . . checking out my love interest. I was thinking about the dead person and the people who loved them the most. And the moment when Emily saves Will at the bank - making that about Jemily takes so much away from both Emily and Will as characters, for me. Idk. I just like the complexity of the characters, and for me personally that's what makes shipping fun, so any time I have to ignore the complexity of the characters to do the shipping, I'm out.
(* except with an unfortunate side of 'this is morally superior because Emily was going to be a lesbian before they decided she wasn't')

We need to fricking stop with this CinemaSins TVTropes style crap in fandom. Actually, we need to stop that attitude in all creative fields, but I'm talking about fic right now.
I have seen many posts ragging on over-used phrases in fanfic, and yes, I find 'cerulean orbs' deeply strange, but if I ever said anything hateful on the topic I wish I hadn't.
You know why we say 'smirk' a lot in fic? cause its faster than 'gave a tiny smile to one side with their lips closed, a little cocky and provocative' Smirk is an easy way of saying it. It's the correct word. We say it in fic a lot because people smirk a lot in real life. Go people watch, its all over. Also. Bring me a true synonym for smirk, and I'll use that instead, but these ain't it.
If you have a better way of saying 'took off his shoes without untying them, just levered the heel with the toe of the other' that isn't saying 'he toed off his shoes' I'd love to hear it. Cause that phrase is perfect for it.
'Huffed a laugh'? Yeah, they did. Cause I'm not going to spend extra words describing how they 'exhaled through their nose once, amused, but not enough to fully laugh aloud' Its a specific action. You think people don't do that all day? five bucks says its exactly what you do when you see a meme most of the time. You didn't lol. You huffed a laugh.
The idea that something that's been used before is inherently less valuable is ridiculous. Same with the inverse.
If the phrase you want to use is common or widely used, but is the best way to communicate it? Use it. Don't fall for this trap that is currently consuming hollywood. You don't have to have a clever twist just because 'they survived and were happy' is a trope. You don't have to use some insane alternate phrase just because someone thinks fandom uses 'smirk' too much.
And, as always, if someone gives you hell and you don't want to fight them? let me know, cause I volunteer.

so a thing this fandom does that remains FASCINATING to me, as a function of the fact a lot of this fandom is people's first fandom or only current fandom, is just... assume a lot of things it does is a scourge that this fandom has invented or doesn't exist outside of it? or like, is uniquely bad here? and i won't deny that sometimes mcyt fandom is a bit more intense by virtue of numbers, but like...
duo names: confusing fandom-injokes to describe duos and groups tend to be an anime fandom thing specifically for many historical reasons, but they're not uncommon. hey quick--if you haven't been in KHR fandom, can you guess what 1827 is? no? i'll give you a hint: that's actually a ship name. or, ygo fans, tell me the difference between puppyshipping, prideshipping, violetshipping, and rivalshipping. my hint is that they're all kaiba ships and two of them are actually the same ship. good luck!
reducing characters to a specific trait: have you read fic in another fandom before? i would recommend you go do so and come back to me. my example here is "sasuke likes tomatoes", for the record.
common au fanon that's confusing to outsiders: my deep cut here is "when i got into certain tv fandoms i was baffled by the existence of sentinel/guide fics", which is a slightly older tv fandom thing so many of you probably don't know what i'm on about. but trust me: in certain fandoms it's ubiquitous and unless you've watched a completely different tv show you're gonna have to entirely pick it up from reading fic. oh hey, hybrid aus and watcher!grian, nice to see your relative here,
fanon being treated as canon: did you know there's this whole bnha character, naomasa, who is treated as canonically having a lie detector quirk? did you know that, best i can tell, that's not in canon anywhere, it just got echoed through fanon enough that everyone treated it as canon? 'fanon trait becomes so ubiquitous everyone assumes it has to be there' is not a new thing. also, batfamily fans, i have been lead to understand the tim and coffee thing is also this.
characters being treated badly to make a different dynamic look better: the fact we have the term 'character bashing' tells you all you need to know, here. if anything my one complaint on this front isn't even that it's happening--it's that i wish bashing and/or "not [character] friendly" was tagged a little more frequently, haha.
characters being reduced to their family dynamics: tale as old as time. "even the family dynamic thing" yes even that. just because this fandom tended to be particularly ship-adverse in the past didn't mean it didn't do basically the same behaviors as any fandom with shipping did with those dynamics, just gen. and other gen fandoms also do that. yes, down to the "and shipping reduces them to a ship, unlike my gen dynamic, which is very in-character; why can't people just be friends?" thing. some of you have to have been marvel fans right.
characters being reduced to their ships: some of you have to have been marvel fans right.
The Discourse: yeah this is an "actively running show" fandom thing, but also a hiatus fandom thing. ask a homestuck about vriskourse sometime. as much as i hate to say it, it probably made doomsday discourse look cute.
and those are just like... some things i've seen people complain about on my dash recently. idk it just hit me there are probably fans in mcyt fandoms who are assuming that some things (like hybrid aus or duo names) are the kind of things that only happen here, so i thought i'd offer some examples of other places they happen! i also have even more examples if you'd like.
to be clear: this isn't shaming anyone for complaining about any of these things. lord knows i go complain to my friends about it all the time, just the other day i was complaining in the category of 'they keep bashing my guy'. it's more of just... a gentle reminder that maybe we're big, maybe we're loud, maybe we have problems... but these problems aren't always unique.
so uh. we're all suffering together i guess...?

So i have a small nicpic i wanted to share with you about your interpretation of spike in the au and i want to make two things clear before i talk
1) i havent watch the series for a little while as of now so i might be misnterpreting a aspect of this chatacter that might have never been there and only apeared in fan content and personal interpretation (since that whats been keeping me on the fandom)
2) this is not a big problem about the au i matured enough to not get angry at a interpretation of a fictional charater
Now here i go
I feel spike being the same race as the rest of his familie makes him lose a part of his character that might have not been central but was still something interesting about him and is the idea of not mayhering how diferent he looked from his adoptive family (and his cominty as a whole) he was he was still seen as part of it
Again this isnt a big problem with the au as a whole its just a small nicpic that i have about the au and its not going to make me hate the au
This was just my opinion that i wanted to share and im interested to know your opinion about what i said
I understand this criticism and agree that having Simon/Spike be a different race than Thea could speak to their relationship in the original show.
My reasoning for designing them both to be African American is this. I believe Simon's adoption is enough to explore the feelings of separation and exclusion he may have with Thea and her family. The original show doesn't bring up Twilight and Spike's racial differences much because they originally didn't consider Spike to be a part of Twilight's family. As far as I know, there's no moment where someone says, "Wow! You're telling me you're related to Twilight Sparkle? But you look nothing alike!" because Spike was more so Twilights... familiar than anything.
Later episodes that explore their familial dynamic poses the conflict through Spike's adoption. There's one episode where Spike's "biological father" returns, and Spike accuses Twilight of not being his real family, which breaks her heart. There's another that delves deep into Spike's feelings of exclusion from Twilight and Shining Armor's siblinghood. Basically, in discussions of family dynamics, the show places more emphasis on Spike's identity as an adopted sibling rather than a dragon.
I really do believe a multiracial family would be good representation, but the racial dynamics would not be something I'd be interested in getting into. That's not to say I find real multiracial families problematic or uninteresting or unappealing or unimportant. I just wouldn't be interested in having to explain in-text that Simon (non-black) and Thea (black) are related over and over; it would grow tedious. It adds an extra level of writing complication and opens up racial discourse (discourse that I feel is unrelated to their relationship in the original show) that I don't want to concern myself with, especially because I have no experience in navigating such discourse.

tbh i think that even unwinnable fights should be winnable. some of the BEST fights i've ever run as a dm were ones i built kill the players (in a fun way. I had some cutscenes prepped so even the loss would be a different flavour of win)- but then they were clever bastards and managed to either win the fights or pull themselves out of trouble. I think it's perfectly fine to plan for a fight that players aren't supposed to win, but you need to let them. if they can't win, they can't lose, and the meaning of that encounter is diminished. do that too many times, and they stop trusting you to give them roleplay prompts and start expecting to sit there waiting while you drive the story for them.
but if they can win... if there is always the chance to win, no matter how impossible the odds, then they ALWAYS have hope. they always get invested. they feel the big emotions of success or the big emotions of failure, and you fucking Win as a dm/roleplay prompter/lead bastard.

so in honor of pride and gay month:
not to sound cheesy as hell but! idk for the first time in my life i feel secure and proud of my identity and im glad you lot (all 85k) are here w me for it. i hope everyone of you is having a fucking fantastic day, month, year, and so on. even if youre not, it will get better. if you cant come out due to family, or location, or youre just not ready, you deserve to be proud too, even if no one knows. knowing yourself is more important than anyones opinion of you. and if you dont know yourself quite yet? youre still wonderful and valid as well. youll get there somepoint, you have all the time in the world. even if you dont get there, youre still valid and cool as hell. if you are out, whether you show it off, or whether you dont, youre still valid. theres no right way to have pride in being queer, and theres certainly no wrong way either, unless you tear down others.
so, its pride month, 2023, and i know things look like shit, but its bound to get better someday.
stand with your friends and your community, and even if you arent part of it, stand by with us anyway.
id like to thank saph, brad, fennec, and all of you who are cool as hell and are supportive as hell.
be proud of yourself for getting this far.
sincerely,
katya
(a very proud bisexual transman)

There's something weirdly...disingenuous in all the posts questioning why Orym might want to talk to Dorian specifically and not the others. Like, this post is really good and covers the non-romantic reasons why this makes sense, and I agree with it entirely! Also though, it's not like Liam hasn't pretty consistently made it clear that Orym has feelings for Dorian. You do not need to like this (I think it's abundantly clear that I think you can openly dislike a ship) but you do look kinda dumb if you're like "why would he want to specifically speak to someone he's known longer than anyone but Fearne, who's slightly removed from the current tragedy, and whom he has repeatedly messaged whenever he's feeling upset?"

Honestly I think the most unforgivable crime comitted by the new ATLA adaptation is bringing back the fucking kataang/zutara discourse🥰
Like, I can forgive a lot, but I can't forgive the fact that my own eyes, in the year of our lord 2024, have to be subjected to takes I first saw on 2011 DeviantArt

before i watched the whole official season of hazbin my friend was telling me about the alastor working for lilith theory and when they were talking about how they've both been gone for 7 years and that alastor got all close to and protective of charlie n shit instead of jumping to the much more logical conclusion my mind immediately went "oh lilith transitioned. good for him"

some kind of. miscellaneous conversation sometime during ac3?? this was actually part of a much longer scene that went in a more serious direction than I originally planned once I started drawing it. I ended up starting over, but I couldnt bring myself to delete the pages I had already started (which is why the dialogue's a little janky bc I decided to redo it before I got to the lettering stage RIP) so I cleaned them up a bit to post :') get some sleep, desmond.

curious since ive seen opinions and evidence on both. this isn’t necesarily about which one you ship or think is better, just which one is (in your opinion) more intended by the creators!

i literally dont think i will ever be able to recreate the highs that the dsmp streams back during its golden era caused inmy life. the energy of the streams and the vibe in the fandom were unmatched. i will literally miss it forever and it really is such a shame that it all ended the way it did because it genuinely influenced me so much and i feel like ill never truly leave it behind
happy november 16th 👍

I’ve seen a lot of commentary / comparisons to Lestappen and Larry over the past few months and as someone who never shipped them but saw first-hand how detrimental it was to Harry and Louis’ relationship it makes me feel genuinely sick. To the point I have had very serious thoughts about leaving the fandom to avoid the association.
Tumblr has always been such a safe space to obsess over your ship and find friends who share your same delusions. The beauty is, and always has been, the freedom to go feral over them — to exaggerate and fantasise in the shadows — all in the name of fun because we know deep down we don’t actually believe any of it.
The recent mainstream attention is becoming increasingly more concerning because things can get out of hand extremely quickly. When some fans move out of safe spaces, or start their shipping journey on sites like X or Instagram, their views on boundaries can easily warp. They are able to freely tag the people they are talking about, or worse, try to find more drastic ways to get their attention.
I’m not saying the entire fandom on those sites is toxic but it’s a lot easier for lines to be crossed in spaces the real people occupy as well.
It’s getting to the point where I’m not sure if we can go back, or if it’s too late and I’m going to have to watch a fandom I love be torn apart all over again…

[Image description: A page of uncolored digital sketches of Kaveh and Alhaitham.
The topmost sketch is a redraw of a scene from the Archon Quest in which Kaveh frowns while looking up to meet Alhaitham's gaze.
The bottom left drawing depicts Kaveh and Alhaitham in an embrace. Alhaitham is nestled into Kaveh's chest and looking forwards with a neutral expression. One of his arms reaches around Kaveh's waist. Kaveh smiles as he looks forwards. One hand loosely caresses the back of Alhaitham's neck while the other lightly touches his jawline.
The bottom right drawings depict a chibi Alhaitham and smiling chibi Kaveh. An arrow with the phrase "do not separate them!!" points at them.]
