"Virginia, Autumn" - Molly McCully Brown
October, I’m dragging the dog away from perfect birds lifeless on the pavement. By the water, boys in dress blues with bayonets, the blistered hulls of boxships. Everything  is sunshine. Everything is dead, or dying, and this isn’t  a new thought. I grew up here, but farther from the ocean. Each April, they took us to the battlefield, marched us in schoolhouse lines up courthouse steps: here  is where the war ended. Never mind that it was fall  before the final battleship lowered its flag; never mind  that we still haven’t fired the last gun. What business  do I have wanting a baby here: in this body  where I can’t keep my balance, this country where we can’t keep anything alive that needs us,  or dares not to, not even the switchgrass  pale and starved for groundwater? And still,  I do want. I search the news for mention of the birds,  whatever poison or disease I’m sure is claiming them  in such great numbers: meadowlarks, house wrens,  chickadees, starlings. Once even a gray gull, pulled  open at the chest before we found him, hollowed of his organs. It takes a long time—too long—  for me to understand the sun in this season  is blinding, and the birds are flying into windows all around me, fourteen stories up. Flying into glass and falling. What we love is rarely blameless. Is it a failure that I wouldn’t trade this brightness? I imagine pointing upward for my daughter: Look, there, how it catches in the changing trees.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴   Electro-Technical Officer, Vipin Kumar Soni on the ultra-large boxship “CAP SAN ARTEMISSIO” was one of the runners-up in the digitalisation section of our 2022 essay competition, immediately predicting supply and demand combining to accelerate the impact of new technology. Customers’ expectations will increase commensurately with the need for, and progressively wider availability of, more advanced means of transportation that will radically alter how cargoes are handled, vessels move and ports and terminals operate.    After a summary of the rationale of digitalisation that is firmly rooted in logistics, data, security and communication, the article discusses three core but still developing applications - smart ships, autonomous vessels and smart ports - before outlining what stubbornly remains as slow and uneven progress in a maritime sector whose supply chain stakeholders must collaborate in arresting and reversing current underinvestment.    You can read the full text of this thought-provoking essay at https://lnkd.in/dFvpsPfD #WeAreSynergy #shipmanagement #digitalisation #logistics #supplychain #digitaltransformation #transportation

Authors Note: I had a quarter life crisis last night and wrote this instead of dealing with my feelings 💖💖💖
Collectkin Fluff in which Asa has a staring problem! Just two gay men watching their dogs frolic in their backyard and just chilling really. (Alot of this was based on DMs between me and the oomfies tbh;;)
--
"You're starin' again," Arkin teased, smirking playfully at Asa.
"Oh," Asa blinked, turning away.
Arkin simply chuckled, taking the silent apology as he puffed on his cigarette. He looked out into the yard where the dogs were playing, letting them wear each other out. Asa seemed to have moved his attention to the tumbling pups as well, a half amused smile on his face.
Arkin exhaled blue smoke through his nose, leaning his head onto Asa's shoulder.
Emory turned his head back, smiling softly, planting a sweet kiss to the top of Arkin's hair. He wrapped a thick arm around the leaner man's shoulders, urging him to further relax against him.
"Rough day," Asa asked, resting his head atop Arkin's.
"Nah," O'Brien sighed, taking another drag, "Just the usual, rich people not knowing how to take care of their own house."
Asa hummed, eyes naturally falling on Arkin's form.
Arkin went on talking about his day, and Asa happily listened to every detail. He didn't mind that Arkin was dominating the conversation, Asa prefered to listen than to talk.
Slowly, Asa pushed the porch swing with his legs, letting it gently rock the both of them.
Arkin just finished talking about his client's weird teenaged son, his hand resting on Asa's. They fell into a comfortable silence, content to watch their dogs slowly lose energy. They also took time to admire their manicured lawn, the patches of once dead grass now a vivid emerald green.
They worked hard on landscaping the property together, it was their first project as an official couple. They didn't stop at the grass and shrubbery either, Arkin had the wonderful idea to plant an apple tree in the backyard, and Asa happily obliged. The tree was juvenile, for now, but it would soon grow to it's full size, and when it did, they wanted to build a bench around it- maybe tie a swing to it for Cindy.
But Asa was most excited for the apples themselves, specifically, he couldn't wait for Arkin to peel them for him. It was Arkin's way of saying "I love you", and it melted Asa's heart.
Emory's gaze fell back onto Arkin, drinking in his form, breathing in his smell, admiring his natural beauty.
Arkin could feel the gentle gaze on himself again. He smirked and was about to make a comment, when Asa spoke before him.
"You're so beautiful," He said softly.
Arkin smiled, visibly brightening- he reminded Asa of a firefly.
"You mean handsome," Arkin jokingly corrected, giving Asa's hand a squeeze as he took the last drag of his cigarette.
"Men can be beautiful too," Asa responded confidently.
O'Brien hummed, silently agreeing as he leaned forward to snuff the cherry of his spent cigarette onto the ashtray. The backyard table had a couple glasses on it from when Asa made iced tea. The summer was rolling in, and it was already drying up the spring air. Even so, despite the heat, Arkin returned to Asa's side.
He let the larger man wrap his large arm around his shoulders, and pull his securely to his side. He planted a soft kiss to the top of Arkin's auburn hair, the two looking up to see the dogs finally laying down in the grass.
Cupcake was getting a drink of water while Odin panted and rolled lazily into the grass. Just as the sun was nearly down.
The comfortable chill of night was filling the air, serene and dipped in golden shadows.
They had no reason to stay outside any longer. They should call the dogs into the house, take their dishes in, finish their chores for the night.
But, there was no reason to rush the afternoon, either.
The two were fine just where they were.

India Lacks Port Infrastructure Making World’s Biggest Vessel Ever Alot Skip Its Docks, Hurting Trade Opportunities
Tumblr media
The Ever Alot recalled as the largest boxship in the world, docked not in India, but in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, in a blow to the nation’s trade goals. It is the poor shipping infrastructure and links that have hurt India’s rank in the port and shipping value chain index. Ever Alot is 400 meters long and can compete with Empire State Building as far as its length is considered, with a capacity of more than 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent units. Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a journey to make India a world factory, the country lacks the port infrastructure to attract large container ships to its docks.
Malaysia and Sri Lanka have both earned the honor to have been visited by Ever Alot. But the Indian coast harbors are not deep enough to accommodate bigger vessels as Ever Alot. Even the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, the nation’s biggest container handling facility run by the state, does not have the 17-meter draft to navigate such vessels. Mundra Port though having such a facility, and being run by Gautam Adani, a billionaire, has been skipped. In January 2022, Mundra Port docked 17,292-TEU APL Raffles with 13,159 TEUs on board.
According to a director at Drewry Maritime Advisors, Shailesh Garg, ultra-large ships help with economies of scale but improvement in the vessel size is not the only factor to speed the movement of goods. Along with that, the country needs to improve building rail and road links from ports to factories, shops, and warehouses. The RBI in its report on the global value chain had reported that India scored 34% in contrast to 45.9% in the GVC participation Index for the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, while Vietnam’s score was over 50% in the gauge.
Because of the weak infrastructure, Modi’s target to increase the manufacturing share from 14% to 25% of gross domestic product and enhance the country’s position in the global goods exports by 2027 to 3% and by 2047 to 10%, seems bleak with current statistics of 2.1%. Mundra Port is one of the highest-ranking for performance and has the 48th rank in an index compiled by two major groups. But India is still falling back in port-related trade due to insufficient facilities and connectivity.

@thetravelershub asked:
// 🌟 — and another, for ten about Qudy!
Did You Know? Gaming: HAL Laboratory Edition (Accepting!)
Tumblr media
The saddest box you’ll ever meet.
1) Qudy wasn’t always the tallest of the boxes. He once was actually the smallest of Qbabies before suddenly growing up to be unusually tall for boxkind.
2) His parents didn’t really care for him much due to his formely-tiny Qbaby status, but that’s why his brother (Qbby Sr.) ended up looking out for him throughout their childhood, and why he looked up to him for so long.
3) His blush mark as a Qbaby was grass green. As green as the Boxplanet was before.
4) He is the first, and so far the only, box who is tall and long like a rectangular prism instead of a cube. This caused him trouble with doors on his planet for a while until he learned he could tilt his body in order to fit through. At least the doors on the Boxship were sized to fit his tallness without needing to tilt.
5) Used to have a girlfriend, despite his one-of-a-kind tallness. Like many others who got infected, she did not survive :(  Currently doesn’t have high hopes of being able to find another partner of his own, as much as he hates feeling lonely.
6) Qudy was one of the many boxes who got infected from the Black Smoke. However, he and Qbaby Qbby were the only ones to be recovered before they had any other serious consequences from such.
7) Absolutely regrets letting his brother and sister-in-law go to that Black Smoke-infested meteorite and wishes he could have stopped them from going. He still lives with this guilt to this day. Internally. He doesn’t intend on reminding Qbby nor Qucy about it. Ever.
8) Had to learn how to cook after being left with Qbaby Qbby and Qbaby Qucy by buying a cookbook... and shoplifting ingredients for a while. He also feels regret for thst but that was due to Boxplanet Medals not being accepted as currency in most of the other planets. His specialty meal is ramen noodles.
9) Is constantly trying very hard to be a better person than before. Has a fear of being labeled as a terrible, evil being because of the previously mentioned guilt. Any artistic depictions of him being painted as a monster (ex. wanted posters) really brings his already-low mood down further.
10) Grew to have a fondness of kids due to learning how to caring for Qbby and Qucy when they were Qbabies, and now currently caring for the four Planet Qbabies.
