July 2023. TMM might be my childhood love, but Princess Tutu might be my favorite magical girl series. I will always tell anyone to give it a watch. (subbed, I have no idea what the dubbed English sounds like. But you do you!) I've always wanted to write a big long gushing review about it but I'd probably want to to watch it again first, hehe....

It's been a long time since I did such a big illustration. I looked at this drawing for far too long and started to overthink everything. I’m really feeling how little foundation my color theory has since I never really properly learned it, so I had to get a lot of help from @dyemelikeasunset for this- bless their whole heart!!! 🥺❤️

I have made prints of this, but I still need to set up an online store. I'll let everyone know when it's available!

Hi, thanks for asking me a few :D!

1) What do you listen to while you draw?

- It depends, sometimes I listen to music that tends to be uptempo no matter the genre (though other times if it's an album or a playlist I made, I'll let the emo songs play lol). But if not music, I listen to podcasts :D. Right now I'm going through the MBMBAM episodes in order and I found it's really nice listening to them and laughing as I draw~ (I also listen to their Adventure Zone episodes too!) So yeah, when I draw I always have to have something I'm listening to, it keeps me inspired and motivated ^^.

3) Famous artists you are inspired by?

- Ooh I love this question. So, I'mma go against the possible grain and not just list like Renaissance artists and instead go by some very popular artists on Deviantart that I follow hehe (gonna be a bit of a list):

12) What styles did you imitate to teach yourself to draw?

- Hehe, so some styles I use to draw in all the time when I was younger were:

The classic Archie Comics style, some Manga/Anime like Fruits Basket & Sailor Moon, western cartoons like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Titans, Totally Spies, Winx Club...Oh! the classic 2D Disney style too, even like Spongebob (I had a book when I was younger on how to draw the characters lol), Fairly Odd Parents/Danny Phantom, My Life as a Teenage Robot etc. They (and others I can't remember rn) all had an influence on my art and how my current style is now~

*rambling doll thoughts*

So this is my OC, Mana. (Left is from 2017, right is from 2020)

She is (or was?) a standalone character I invented for an inktober comic I did. Olive ended up sneaking her way into Mana’s universe, so I knew I’d eventually wanna make her into a doll too, being the main character and all. Also they’re probably also girlfriends so that didn’t help

Below the cut is me babbling about shelling her, being indesicive, and all that back and forth 💦

First, a picture!

(I’ll put the link here for the upper left niuniu, i believe it’s lost in bookmark hell;;; bottom right pumpkin photo belongs to smoochyscoop on amino apps and is only here for reference purposes!!!) 

So, when I first did this I leaned for DZ Pumpkin-  her button nose and cute lips were very charming! Niuniu was a very close second, but I went with Pumpkin and put her on my wishlist for a few years- I was waiting for DZ to open tan resin orders again. She wasn’t supposed to be a high priority until that time, but... Welll.... 😅 *stares at the DZ discontinuation event, which has come and gone* That happened, so Tan option was out.

So this forced me to think about her all over again. I could dye her, yes! but (naturally....) I started reconsidering if she was the Right One or not after all. I wasn’t entirely happy with my digital facepass for her anymore since it was a few years old and I couldn’t seem to recreate it to my liking. I kept coming back to this facepass, even though I made my choice ages ago- which, ofc, isn’t a good sign, SO... 

I decided to do some updated passes and realized what was holding me back. I subconsciously wanted to update her design. She’s a few years old now (2015), and a lot of her design I put together on a whim since she was meant to be a one-shot character. I even held a contest to decide her colors! While I still love that version of her, I felt like if I really wanted to make her a doll I should be more like... invested about it. So, updated digital passes and doodles (as seen above) happened.

I realized that while I love Pumpkin a lot, she’d become too young-looking for how I imagined Mana now. DV’s Rach was a very cute option that could come in tan (God and I do want a DV tan yosd *agonizes over DV’s discontinuation event too*) Her face is darling, but both me and my boo agreed that it wasn’t quite as animated and bright-eyed as Niuniu. Really, my heart is (and perhaps has always been) with Niuniu. Her smiling open mouthed face is just SO charming and different and suits her character really well. I would also LOVE to see her sculpt in tan, so.. as scary as dyeing sounds, that’s what I’m gonna try my best to do.

ALSOOO ON THAT NOTE I had found a 2nd hand Niuniu and put her on 3 month layaway - and i’ve paid it off early for my BIRTHDAYYYY (eeeee;;; ) AND SHE SHIPPED!!!! 😭😭😭 AUGHHH!!! Let’s see how long it takes me to get up the nerve to dye her after she’s here, hahaha. Time to drown myself in research (for the fifth time, because I can never be too sure lol) 

ANYWAYS

I didn’t expect her to happen soon, nevermind before Olive v2 (who I am still waiting on) but I can also gleefully use her body to model clothes for the both of them since it’s the same. All the discontinuations got me in a tizzy because I have 85% feelings for a lot of them but I also really want to see what they release next. Ugghhh! I guess the DZ discontinuing had a silver lining and ultimately showed me the light. I’m super excited how everything fell into place!!!!!! 💦💦💦

My piece for DA's 2017 Pride flag event.  I don't usually participate in events, I'm really shy! But since my partner Dyemelikeasunset got the opportunity to be involved, I couldn't help but want to contribute too! It's been over 12 years since I came out, but it's a massive driving force to my work; "Be the person that makes what you don't see represented in media." So that's what I do! It was a good reason to draw some of our characters being more mundane and sweet too, which is always nice and I really don't do it enough... I picked Yellow- for sunlight and energy. I wanted to do something about lgbtqia families and the energy and strength that comes from that commitment. Shown here are me and my partner's OCs- Constance (left) and Linette (right), and their adopted daughter Temperance! They're usually found in a high fantasy setting, but I went with a modern human AU for this just like Dye did!

One month from today it will be my 23rd birthday, and this beautiful tattoo was designed for me on my 19th four years ago by @beedalee , my biggest inspiration and favorite artist to this day. (It’s me, Ichii kouhai btw!!!! 💕) It took a long time, but I am so very happy to have this be my first tattoo and it means the world to me to have something so special permanently with me for life.

The only thing that changed was the colour of the stars, I decided I wanted them to be yellow and green, despite how easily they may fade because now the colours are the colours of sunrise, which I know is kind of a theme for you, Bee! I cannot thank you enough, ever, for this. I’m sorry it took so long to get it done, and it’s on my forearm instead of the back of my neck like I originally planned now, but I’m glad it’s in a place I can look at every day. Really, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. You’re still my biggest inspiration and I’m thankful to have met you and even have the chance to consider you a friend. 💕
