“The cockroach and bedbug infestations in Tammy Brown's Hamilton apartment have all but destroyed her life, she says.

Roaches have taken over her fridge and stove, contaminating her food and making it impossible to cook for her two adult daughters, one of whom lives with a disability, and her four-year-old grandson……Brown has called the city four times in under a year, begging for it to order the landlord at 221 Melvin Ave. to fix the pest problems.

She said neither public health nor bylaw has ever responded……There's a reason she hasn't heard back. The City of Hamilton isn't enforcing its own pest control rules — and hasn't for over four years, staff told CBC Hamilton……. according to public health manager, there's little evidence to suggest rats, cockroaches and bedbugs carry pathological diseases, and the idea that residents could experience negative mental health impacts is a "novel, developing notion"…”

Entomologist Luffy x Doctor Law on first date.

Thanks to Paris’ bedbug crisis and this tweet thread, and countless more tweets about bedbugs scaring people, I can’t help but think about weirdo X weirdo LawLu on first date. Time to write another entomologist Luffy fic. Sadly I can’t my laptop is broken and I am still sick. 🤒

A fic where both idiots are set up on a blind date. And the moment Law sees Luffy, he is attracted but then Luffy tells him he studies insects and can entertain Law with never ending trivia about bugs, insects and other such creatures. Law being little smug bitch asks Luffy about bedbugs on whims.

Once Luffy begins sharing fascinating and equally creepy bedbug lore on first date with Law, it is game for the doctor.

Since Law is a little weirdo nerd, he will immediately become interested and intrigued. In learning new things lies his true joy.

So they chatter away about bedbugs like it’s the most beautiful creature on the planet while everyone else in the restaurant is horrified and grossed out by their unhinged conversation.

Good Night, Sleep Tight, Don't let the Bed Bugs bite,

Out of closets and over bedroom walls,

The slink in silence to not cause a fright,

Growing thirsty for blood as darkness falls,

If they get too close you won't feel a prick,

but will drain you till you can barely wake,

If you see them they will pin you down quick,

Pray they don't suck you dry for your own sake,

How to sleep with such blood suckers at night,

Just eat a few, they're good for you, good night.

This is the my first Halloween themed piece for this year (I have at least two others planned). This is inspired by a little rhyme one of my aunts would tell me as a kid before I went to sleep. Obviously it was much more endearing than the poem I just wrote here.
