I'm sorry, but what kind of accent does Ivan have? He's the only sim who speaks that way and now that he's more in focus, I can't help but wonder where he comes from! Also, while I'm at it, I've also noticed that you stay loyal to the Sim world ("speaking in Tartosan" "a Tartosan goddess", etc), and while it's obvious that Tartosa was based on Italy and Spain, do you imagine your characters being from real countries and with distinct cultural backgrounds?

hmmm idk that he really has an accent as such, it's more that he speaks more loosely/common than every one else. i don't really have voice claims or any real countries to pin these pixels to cos they're sims u kno, it'd probs get messy if i started tying things to irl and not others.. so nah, other than rough stuff like vaguely japanese for mt. komo or italy for tartosa i don't pin em to real places ig you could use my northern english accent as an example tho, like my mom is pretty well spoken but still northern right? so she pronounces her t's n shit but my accent is way more common and i drop all mine to a ridiculous extent (if i was to write butter or water the way i'd say it it's practically unreadable lol.. like bu'uer? bUHer?? idk lmao) so Ivan probs speaks like me tbh.. Hiiiiii I'm doing okay! I hope you're having a lovely day, anon! I've been thinking about your ask all day.

If I had to rate them on which made me feel more, I would say:

tlou1, hbo tlou, tlou2. LET ME EXPLAIN.

I have a very particular experience of these medias. I watched hbo tlou first and then several months later played tlou1 for the first time. tlou1 was my first console game ever, and I thought it couldn't affect me as much as the show. I mean, I watched the show already, I watched a play through of tlou1. How different could playing it myself be? I already knew what was coming. But I didn't expect what the media of video games actually does to you. You spend sooooo much time with those characters. And, in a lot of ways, you are those characters.

So, when I was watching the show it was like I was removed from the action. It was something happening to someone else. In the game, its happening to me, kinda. Ellie is my kid, in a lot of ways. So, even though the show has real (read: non-pixel) people, I connected with the game so much more. It hurt so much more.

As for tlou2, I haven't gotten to play it myself yet (I plan to), and I haven't been able to actually sit through the whole of a play through video because it makes me feel ill.

I don't have my own playstation, I've been playing on a friend's and we both agree my mental health kind of needs to be in a better place before I attempt it. He's seen me be crazy about a lot of media over the years, but even he's admitted it's never been like this. So, just because I haven't actually played tlou2 myself, it's last. Because it's not fair of me to say how it's made me really feel yet.

A fairly new gifmaker here. So, how do you add a single transparent pixel to a gif anyway? Is there some tutorial or guidelines about this? Honestly, i'm not against the concept of change but, whenever i slightly think i got it -the gifmaking, tumblr makes it all chaos and there's a new ordeal to consider ffs

i've been here for so long and have seen so many changes that i hated in the beginning, but they didn't really affect the gifs as negatively as this change seems to be doing. unless they can tweak the video format enough to where gifs looks like actual gifs again, i don't see how much longer this place is going to be around. gifmakers and content creators are truly the backbone of this website and they constantly do everything in their power to push us out. anyway, sorry for the mini rant.

i haven't found a tutorial but there might be one around somewhere, i'll update with a link if/when i find one! for now, i'll try my best to explain it the way i've been doing it.

EDIT: becca / @yenvengerberg created a great tutorial on how she’s able to do this! and it seems a lot simpler than my method, so give this a try. 

first, get your cropping, sharpening, colouring, etc. out of the way. make sure you're in frame animation if you're not already! i'm not sure what method you use to make your gifs, so lmk if i need to explain how to get to this point.

ok, so to make a single pixel, just click on your rectangular marquee tool

then make sure your first frame in your animation bar is selected as well as your first layer in the layers bar

after that, zoom in on your gif, i do about 500%, and find the whitest area if possible, then make your tiny square with your marquee tool. try to keep it small. like really small, your width and height shouldn't exceed 2px by 2px but if you can get it down to 1px by 1px, that's even better. there's a guide with the dimensions as you make the square, so you'll know where you're at. once you have your square selected (and it's very important you have your first frame and layer selected like i mentioned above or it won't work properly), you're going to hit the delete/backspace bar on your keyboard. it'll create a transparent pixel and voila! if you can't really see it, that's a good thing because it won't be noticeable on your gif once you've uploaded it. test upload it to your drafts first just to make sure it looks normal but you should be okay. hopefully st*ff doesn't catch on and change this but it does work for now.

i know i'm the worst at explaining so message me again if i need to clear something up for you.

In my hc him and Anya got together that night after the billiards scene (after almost fucking on the pool table) he followed her back to her train car and they got freaky. Even though he didn’t want to deep down, he was an ass hat and left in the middle of the night while she was asleep so she woke up alone to Maxwell knocking on the door and girl thought it was drake she was so sad mad heartbroken and she kind of didn’t talk to him for an entire day which felt like 1800 months. somewhere in the whole hoopla of everything (bc I don’t remember most of the events of trr) Drake manages to talk to hanna of all people about what to do about his vague situation and eventually he does not take her sound advice and instead leaves the tour. Bby girl goes after him and that’s all folks.

can I ask you for advice? how do you make colorful hotd gifs without them being so pixelated? I tried but it just looked way too grainy. I'm wondering whether it's the place I downloaded the episodes from (it's 1080p still)? can I ask you where you download the episodes from and how you sharpen/color your gifs please 🥺

Eyo! I try to work with as high quality as I can possibly get my hands on. For the hot d gifs, I use 2160p footage. I get most of my stuff off tor, if you want direct links IM me or send an ask off anon so I can get back to you with those.

These are my Smart Sharpen settings:

Pretty standard, most gifmakers use this. Back in the day I would just roll with only this because I kinda enjoyed the crispy vibe (I've been swimming in the gifmaking waters for over a decade oofe). But these days, I think since the dimensions and the quality are much higher, just slapping a sharpen on makes everything look noisy and grainy, so I usually duplicate the gif frames and apply an additional Gaussian Blur layer (that I then change the opacity of to 60-80% depending on the scene):

I work with smart objects + timeline animation nowadays so these apply to those. Back in the day I'd write scripts to apply actions to all my frame layers, but we don't do that anymore.

As for coloring, I tend to just color the scenes from scratch, starting off with Curves and Channel Mixer and then building on that. I might make a video on my process sometime or do a lil stream or something (if anyone would be interested anyway).

I tend to be not that great with written tutorials anyway (e.g. this very ask lmao), but there are some fantastic guides out there that can give you a general idea on where to begin. Like this one from Becca, or this one from Jagoda, or this one from Ava. I usually don't follow tutorials step-by-step, but rather see how other people work to pick up new things to try or optimize my own processes.

And as a final note, keep in mind that a lot of the top-notch beautiful gifsets that people on here make are the result of a ton of trial-and-error. So, just play around, have fun and let yourself fuck up a couple of times. You'll get there!

Thank you for sending this in, anon! I’m glad you liked it and wondered how it was made :) Fun fact: the day before you sent this, I had just started working on my next set in that “Select Filmography” series. I hope you like that one too when it’s ready!

I think I should start by saying I’m pretty new to giffing myself and there might be more efficient ways of getting to the same result. However, the point here is to show you the process I went through to make this gifset and hopefully help you understand how to make a similar one.

To follow this tutorial, you will need some version of Photoshop and some giffing knowledge. I know there are multiple ways of making gifs so I’m just letting you know I’m using the timeline and the “Convert for Smart Filters” option (I don’t really know how else to call it).

Now let’s get started!

STEP 1 - CHOOSE THE SCENES

It might sound obvious but, in my opinion, this is the most crucial step. It’s also the one that takes the longest (along with step 7, aka the coloring).

At this stage, you need to have a general idea on how you want your set to look like so you can choose the scenes accordingly. In my case, I knew I needed two types of shots for each movie: one close-up for the main gif and one mid shot for the shape. I also needed to take two other criteria into consideration: the movement (because of the shape) and the lighting (because darker scenes are such a pain to color). Last but not least, I didn’t want the characters to be talking (but that’s just a personal preference).

With all of that in mind, you can start saving a few screenshots of scenes that meet your criteria (or at least some of them). In the end, there won’t be that many to choose from so be prepared to make compromises.

STEP 2 - MAKE A DRAFT

Now that you’ve preselected a few scenes, you can make a first draft. This will help you turn your general idea into something more concrete.

Basically, this is your opportunity to organize your thoughts. What size do you want your gifs to be? What shape are you going to use? On which side do you want the close-ups to be? Do you want all of them to be on the same side or do you want to alternate from one gif to the other? Do the scenes you chose work together (gif-wise but also set-wise)? Are you happy with the way it looks, overall?

By answering all of the questions you might have now, you’ll save yourself a lot of time, trust me. Of course, you can totally skip this step if you already know exactly which scenes you’re going to use and how you’re going to present them together.

To give you an idea, this is what my draft looked like for Atomic Blonde.

STEP 3 - PREPARE YOUR GIFS

Once you have a clearer view on how you want your set to look like, you can finally start giffing like you usually would (i.e. importing, cropping, resizing, etc.).

It should then look something like this.

The important thing to mention here is that you want both of your gifs to be the same number of frames (32, in my case).

Ideally, you should also aim for the ~same~ coloring (especially for the skin tone, since both gifs will be so close to each other). This bit is particularly difficult when you chose scenes which have opposite lighting (see my two uncolored gifs below). Remember how I insisted on steps 1 and 2? It was to help you avoid this. So my advice would be not to choose these types of contrasted scenes, unless you can’t do otherwise and you’re ready to suffer!

STEP 4 - MAKE YOUR SHAPE

To make your shape, you can click right on the Shape Tool (U) and select the last one, Custom Shape Tool. From the Shape menu appearing on top, you will be able to choose the shape you want from the drop down list and start drawing on your gif.

To be more precise with the dimensions, you can manually adapt the length and height from the Shape menu itself. I decided to go with the same ones as my gif.

Once your shape is positioned like you want it to be, you can drag and drop the shape layer under your gif. Next, you will have to click right on the gif layer/smart filter and select Create Clipping Mask. The result is as below. Note that if the size of your shape was smaller than your gif, you would still be able to reposition your gif with the Move Tool (V).

You can now export your shape gif, reopen it in Photoshop and convert it again to the video timeline and to a smart filter. This is where I’m not sure it’s the most efficient way of doing things but it’s the only way I found to keep the coloring of each gif separate. I also find it easier to work with a smart filter.

STEP 5 - COMBINE YOUR GIFS

To add your shape gif to your main gif, you can simply click right on the shape gif you just reopened and select Duplicate Layer. You can then choose the project which contains your main gif to duplicate it in there. Now go to your main gif and reposition your shape gif where you want it to be (how many times did I say gif here?). Finally, you can draw a new shape, using the same dimensions as in step 4, reposition it and choose any color you want from the Shape menu.

Since you will be repeating this process with your following gifs, I suggest you add a few guides so you know exactly where you should place everything to make all of your final gifs look the same.

(In case you’re wondering, the “Base” folder contains my adjustment layers/basic coloring for the main gif.)

STEP 6 - ADD THE TITLE

This step is pretty simple: go on the web and type “[name of the movie] title”. Download the png you like most, open it in Photoshop and resize it to a length of about 150-200 pixels. Next, duplicate the layer to your main gif and reposition it. In case you need to resize it again, select the title layer and go to Edit > Free Transform (Ctrl+T).

This is optional but in case you want to change the way it looks, know you can always duplicate the title layer and play with the blending options (see below). The good thing with a png is that you can also add some effects by clicking on the “fx” button.

STEP 7 - ADD COLORING (OPTIONAL)

To be honest, I had not planned on coloring my gifs. But I had already spent so much time on them and I was still unhappy with the way they looked. I mean, see how grey-ish they are? Not great...

So the only thing left for me to do was to add some colors. Now, since coloring is worth a tutorial on its own and it already exists, I suggest you read through becca’s mega coloring tutorial (and especially steps 3 & 5). Seriously, shoutout to her for making this incredibly useful tutorial. She is so talented and I love everything she makes!

My Atomic Blonde gif barely even needed coloring so I’ll show you what I did for my Tully and The Old Guard gifs.

For the first one, once I had found which colors to use with which blending option and opacity level, I only had to remove the colors from the left side of the gif because there was barely any movement in that scene (phew!). For the second one, on the other hand, I decided to color frame by frame because there was way more movement, in comparison. This is quite a tedious process, which is why you want to limit yourself to a certain amount of frames.

I’ll conclude by saying there are so many things you can do with coloring and what works with one scene might not work with another. So experiment with it: try different colors, play with the blending options and opacity levels, add some gradients and/or gradient maps, etc. Just know it will take some time to get to a somewhat satisfying result!

perfect match is very hit or miss but alana kusama is everything to me and i think it has one of the best twists in any book (after the ilitw reveal and bloodbound 3 twist imho). also i like that polycule is an achievement in it.

i got into choices because of high school story (i remembered surviving high school suddenly one night and went to find it on the app store, found hss instead, and here we are) so it will always have a special place in my heart for that. it's kind of cheesy but it's sweet and cute and skye crandall is everything to me. berry high 4eva.

i still need to finish bolas, the heist: monaco and the elementalists because they're all so diamond heavy and i keep wasting everything on trr replays but they've been fun so far.

it's not that i think the freshman series is good, it's just that becca davenport is one of the best LIs on the app. is she worth it? well. that's for you to decide.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

Smut. Is smut a trope?

All the scenes I want to write play out so well in my head but then I put it into text and it’s a CRINGE FEST 😫

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

I mean.... probably not any body/gender swap ff tropes. Nor supernatural stuff. And absolutely nothing with horror/gore. I generally just write about things that happen in my life or those closest to me so there’s always a existential realism to my works (hopefully it comes across).

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?

Just because of how long it’s taking me to finish the series I’m going to say Hurricane. I didn’t mean for it to get longer than 4 chapters but the ideas kept flowing and then somewhere along the lines I ran out of an actual satisfactory ending. 

I do have the rest-ish of the series mapped out though! I’m aiming for two more chapters. Chapter 7 is the BIG ANGST and Chapter 8 is the resolution to that. Then... idk. Haven’t really figured out if I’m going to see them out of the hurricane or just leave them in the cabin and up to interpretation 🤷‍♀️

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

Ohhh this ones hard! All of my fics play out like movies in my head so trying to pic one that would leave me as a viewer completely satisfied is difficult 🙈

Do We Have A Future? probably, just because it’s topics that need to be more mainstream and would be one of my favorite angsty things to watch.

If I could choose to make a tv series out of my fics, it would definitely be the Living Trauma Universe leading into the FATL Universe (extra angst, lots of feels, & cute boys).

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

@alwaysmychoices hands down. Life With and Without is my favorite series in the fandom, I have read both parts at least 5 times during the hiatus’. Her writing is so clever and she makes Ethan and Charlie into real, flawed people. Honestly, I still have the mental image of Ethan Ramsey in sweatpants from A Weekend With happily burned into my brain. (it was such a small detail but written so well and completely made E a fully formed person instead of a pixel we write about) 

@starrystarrytrouble Ruby’s writing is like poetry. She’s simply able to elicit such strong emotions in such few words. I can see every single fic she writes clearly in my head, that’s how strong her imagery is. My favorite fics are definitely the ones where she uses symbols and metaphors (the paris one, the daises one [on ao3] and ofc the symbolism of amber in amber and the damn christmas lights in the holiday fic). Such food for my soul 💖 

@writinghereandthere Ana’s PROSE. that’s it. that’s the explanation. This woman can write the most affecting of words and it is a crime to be that good. I’ve said it before and I’ll scream it again (in words that can’t fully encompass how much i love her work), my favorite fics of hers are the ones that are so mundane. The ones that are just little domestic fluff or random ficlets of nothingness that still seem to carry so much weight. Unchained Melody. The Normal and Mundane. More Than a Drawer. Passing Ships in the Night. And there’s another bryce one I’m forgetting that has something to do with this sunshine pixel. But you get the point, I could list every single one of her fics and it still wouldn’t do them or her justice.  

okay i’m cheating but I can’t not add @the-pale-goddess. Hilde’s fics were some of the first I read during my great migration back on tumblr. Miami Heat was *chefs kiss*. And Tiffany and Ethan? All their troubles? I adore her complicated characters. Tiffany is such a strong, badass woman I really admire. Um and uh also have you read this woman’s smut??? 🥵😈

35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?

Right now, no. That’s only because the story doesn’t call for it yet. I do think that Becca would die before Ethan so do with that bit of information what you will 🤷‍♀️

38. Talk about a review that made your day.

Every single review makes my day. 

I definitely have a few saved that’re burrowed in my likes but can’t seem to pinpoint one right now. Really just anyone who comments on the content and seems to have been engaged or connected to the pieces I write really tickles my heart. 

WAIT OKAY the review @terrm9 left on Make Believe. That one holds a special place in my heart. I cannot read that fic without wondering about her and if she’s doing okay, and hoping she does well on all her exams/coursework lol 

While I am on the topic of my fics that remind me of people; I can’t read FATL without thinking of @kalogh it is my magnum opus all because she requested the quote, Leakage reminds me of Ruby because she encouraged me to write it, and Above Board always reminds me of you wanting to know more about my soft beans.

I’m aboard the 1st 🚞 🎢out of 2 parked in front of structures seemingly a cross between MS, HS, & malls. Surprisingly i chose a 💺 next to Emily instead of Ashley Anzalone, seated directly behind us. When the engine revz ^ for departure, it simulates rides from DisneyWorld, & 6flags. We chuggachü thrü scenery overlooking the 🌞peeking between a spacious mountain range. Not that my breathing had my undivided attention. Suddenly, we tip over. Gathering among the accident, we heave it upright. I can see the water drain from open windows of the tram car due to submergence. We quickly pry open 🚪s to save lives. Barging, the only thing I see is a plastic water bottle. Picking it up, i notice it’s only more than half way venti. Ashley’s the size of Thumbalina nearly drowning inside of it so I dump it at once. Conductor gets the engine to rev back up again. Reversing our course, we return to our starting destination. During this pit stop, the group of people outside become a chaotic riot. Zombie outbreak? Bites left & right. The uninfected struggle to seal off every entry point...staying put once clear of threats. This time the engine fails to start. Avoiding attention from zombies, sneaking into the school, i link^ with Lady Phonix & Keller in a squallroom. How or why i shapeshift into a shortbus still perplexes me but in doing that, i'm shimmying under desks & such. Glass bordering the 🚪’s flimzy so i embody my human form blocking breakthru. Tubyasin busts the barrier, forcing himself inside with us. His righti death gripping a rifle. Taking the chance to loosen it, I retrieve the glock, to check the magclip. Unloaded, hollow, empty…we decide to sacrifice him the the hallway. As i guard the door, Paconi waltzes in. Zombie children wander closer, stalling by the knob. Phonix & Keller remain inside the squallroom while him and i make a run for it. Making a mental note that they seem to not only react to motion, but smell as well. Alerting their instincts, a chase persues. Diving into the nearest elevator, a single head jams between closing doors, urging a double whammi curbstomp. We descent to a 🍯comb lair like the one from Cabin in the Woods. Paconi confesses to studying the virus in this lab he claims as his own. Pixelated walls make like pellucid barricades in the middle of the hallways.  He explains that as we penetrate through them, proceeding deeper into the refuge, it must be identical to the way he does. Leaving behind comb shapes as an impression. Immitating Cartoon Networks' Hole in the Wall. If i were to make the wrong move,  i blip further away from his. The finish line’s lit^ with blurple lights of ambience. A tablet's bolted to the wall next to me. Touch screens provide me with my score on this test. I look, but i don’t see. Now my mind’s set on finding Paconi. I walk upon an operating room where he sits dissecting a deadweight organism in a stretcher. With no desire of being disturbed, he instructs me to elevate to the 1st floor. This new area the elevator resembles a foodcourt in a mall without tables or chairs. Artificial gardens & shrubbery grow surrounding the glass border built upon the clearing. The floor i tread lightly on's made of green microchip tiling. If you make a single step out of line on the terms of Kim Jong Un who stands atop his pedestal, you’ll suffer from a powerful jolt of electricity. I join the rest of the proud survivors of this apocalyptic event so far. Kim congratulates us all with warm welcome to the safezone. Another group of us pool into the same elevator i rose from... Returning to the laboratory. The only familiar faces i see are my moms', &eccas'. We vow to an unbreakable bond. The doors open to another welcoming Paconi rather eager to let us in on his new scientific advancement. After several blood transfusions, our immunitys' been proven! Failing to mention before that we were all mere test subjects in the grander scheme of things...yet still all so very grateful of his discovery. In concluding this, Paconi joins us in the elevator, pressing the button to the lowermost level where additional experiments take place. These caverns contain mazes harboring tested on zombies with inclined conciousness staggering about. 4 different types of zamb have spawned into cloned subspecies'. 1; Nude 👽esque avatar ladies. Instead of blue…baby powder grey. With darker, smokey grey tribal scarification covering every inch of their bodies.  2; Tïñtîn Beccas with 😈 horns 3; Suttin Cade'n Karter kids 4; Bald males with scarred^ faces, the same offput neutral nude color as the naked avatar women..`cept beige. They wore t~shirts & Chinese bamboo harvest hats shaped like saucers.  Turning the 1st corner of the maze, i whimsically conduct my own experiment.  💥ing up a conversation with 1 of the saucer heads about astrology. Somehow already aware that I’m a ♊, I guess he's a ♉ ; No response. Followed by indecipherable jibbrjabbr. Someone sounds an alarm. 2 uninfected african men rush in frantically wedging the entrance closed with ply wood. @snortcocaineoffmyboner& the 🐸y everlivin’ Pharaoh the spacey trans beamin’ being dudes whodo voodoo. They figure out how to navigate the elevator. Door dings open…unfired gunza blazin’. Paconi can’t wrap his mind around how they found their way into the top secret rooms we dawdl in. In a clusterfuck of a scared shitless banter, they go on about every detail of survived journeys beyond shelter 🚪s. Forgetting to inform us of the already cracking wedging holding the doors shut could fracture at any given moment. With that knowledge, all hell breaks loose. Sure enough, zombies shatter through, pouring in tumblewaves. Ravenous beasts...hungrier, the faster. Will our newfound immunity be a success with zombies of this temperment? Disregarding the judgement of the accompanied parties, I yank my loved ones into the elevator,  allowing anyone else in who follows. New goal; stay in for as long as our fate decides. Dream scene flips & shifts. 2 females lay in a bedroom in the vicinity of the court lobby where more zambz broke in. 1’s a Spanish human, de other esta 👽esque avatar zombie lady. While she ciaos trople 🍫 trifecta 🎂 on a bare mattress, she naps. A sweet n' smexy doomsday snooze sesh of dos.
