Decided to spend waaaay too much time on @tricoufamily's Duo Challenge instead of writing. This was an awesome challenge and now I want to make a couple of scenes with these sims! 😆

The Plot:

Half-siblings Dillon and Addy have spent their entire lives in competition with each other. The children of infamous crime leader, Leigh Caldwell, they've devoted themselves to earning her favor, and becoming criminals worthy of the Caldwell name (although they constantly fight over how to go about any mission they share).

i feel like this opinion would get me killed in some places of the internet but castiel or misha or whoever has so much more genuine, compelling chemistry with his female love interests (or pseudo-love interests, i can't figure out what hannah is supposed to be) than with dean/jensen. like i'm 3 episodes into season 10 and i'm earnestly hoping for a romantic (or something) subplot with cas and hannah because i like how they're developing together. idk, i think it's nice. i like how cas interacts with the female characters; there's a lot there

like. okay. i have no real horse in the race of “which brother is the secret bad abuser” because the show does not actually care about that or think that either of them is actually treating each other that badly (except for when sam get manipulated, which is always his own fault and he should suffer for it /s)

but what i will say is that the way dean is written sometimes manages to make me more uncomfortable than any of the villains on this show. dean scares me. completely unintentionally, they did write a guy who only gets Worse over time, and it’s compelling, and it’s upsetting for me to watch.

#I don’t really mean this as a criticism because To Me it is just like. a part of the show. #it’s a feature. perhaps a Bethesda’s bug of a feature but. it’s a feature. #dean’s change in character feels natural. watching him get worse feels like the logical conclusion of where he’s going. #(the logical conclusion could also have been ‘dean makes an effort to not be so controlling’ but they didn’t do that. they leaned into it.) #so it isn’t much like. say. Lucifer. Lucifer is a character who just flips. motivations and character completely changed. #so disregarding his later appearances just? makes sense? to me anyway. that’s Not My Wife #but Dean’s character degradation is completely different in that it builds on what’s already there. #and whenever I write him I feel the need to. idk. grapple with that. with that potential to become Worse. #he is controlling! he doesn’t ever really trust sam that much post-s5! he does treat Cas his best friend like he doesn’t matter unless #he’s acting more human! these are just facts about him that show up long before the later seasons and idk! It’s beyond agonising that like. Later spn seasons would have Cas absent for a string of episodes, so the show could do some salmondean case episodes (apparently the core of the show, though my eyes glazed over through most of them). And that in and of itself is whatever, except then the writers would BLAME Cas’ absence from these intentionally Casless episodes on CAS. And so you sit through all these salmondean episodes of middling to poor quality and then the next time you see your beloved side character Castiel, well guess what. Dean is fucking pissed at him for “disappearing” and is given free rein to yell, guilt trip, and act like Cas has to ask his permission to do anything or go anywhere. Never in my life have I seen a show NARRATIVELY PUNISH a regular recurring character for the crime of being recurring. I can’t emphasise enough that Cas was for external reasons deliberately kept out of the episodes that internal characters would then blame him for not being in. It is insanity inducing.

And it’s one more thing that makes it so clear that spn SHOULD have been allowed to naturally evolve into an ensemble show, because frankly it DOESN’T make sense for Cas to just leave sometimes and there is really absolutely nothing conducive about essentially writing him off and into the show multiple times a season just so it can have its precious brothers-only episodes. And I mean Cas is only the most obvious and most heavily punished example of this, but they also did it to Crowley (literally billed as a regular same as Cas through s9-12), Mary (punished horribly for it tbh, by both the narrative and the fans), and Kevin (and he was usually off on the RUN or being held captive or something horrid like that). And the thing is!! Other characters and brothers episodes don’t even have to be mutually exclusive! How devastating would it be, really, if a salmondean centric episode happened to start with “we’re heading out to xyz, bye Cas” and end with “hey everyone, we’re back”???

I just think this show could have been vastly improved if recurring characters could have been treated as like, assets to the storytelling, and not as objects to get out of the way as quickly as possible so the focus can temporarily go back to the brothers. Lol.

don't know what's wrong with me that i want to give dean and Cas' kids to each other. like. emma is dean's yes yes but have you considered how she would feel is she met cas and he was weird and fiercely loyal and protective and she's never had those things and her dad is also there but you know. he was also there when she got shot. he is just always also there, in her head. but then CAS. YOU KNOW. CAS!

i also feel more crazy about dean and jack because cas and jack is just ideal no problems relationship to me. which is sooo inconvenient because i don't know how to solve that problem. like obviously jack being all-powerful and somewhat grown quickly is like. okay. casually shooting your son with your useless gun is like on par with supernatural levels of stupidity. but then dean has committed many atrocities and EYE would like them to not have happened but they did and now I'm sitting here writing half-baked apologies and conversations trying to. clean up the mess!!! which is not fun!!! fundamentally i do think jack forgives dean on instinct but i think that means nothing because you can love and forgive your mother and still want to kill her actually (jobu tupaki core. i have said this many times before but one of the things the movie is about is the universal urge to want to kill your mother a little bit actually. but i digress.) or be sad about the whole thing. or even angry, still. but like. it's very complex. i will still hold onto it because God made me stupid but you know.
