Alright, I'm gonna ask it. O Great Skulk Lord, what wisdom hath been released unto this world by way of the latest update of Mined Craft?

hehehe WELL first of all, since a not-insignificant part of my thesis here is "ha called it" i'm gonna go ahead and link to the two sculkposts i can find from back in december, here and here, bc even though they don't go into detail about echo shards i HAD already formed this theory at the time and you can sorta tell

so in the new update, which i just found out about today via an upload by mr. mumbo killsalot jumbo himself, players now have the ability to combine amethyst and sculk sensors to create *calibrated* sculk sensors capable of singling out and relaying redstone signals only in response to *specific* vibrations, as well as wirelessly relay those specific vibrations over long distances using amethyst blocks, which has probably a lot of cool implications for redstone that i cannot begin to understand.

in the context of the in-game lore, this strongly supports my already stated theory that sculk uses the impressions of souls it's consumed to calibrate itself, likely because sentient creatures (players) are the only things either dangerous enough or nutritious enough to actually be worth the energy to hunt.

but an extension of this theory which i didn't go into on here is that since naturally generated sculk as an organism is capable of tracking the sound a specific soul makes, and more importantly storing impressions of dead ones for comparison, it makes complete sense that it would be a key componenent in crafting the recovery compass, hence the echo shards.

the only problem is, you can't pick up sculk to use as a crafting ingredient without 'killing' it. even silk-touch harvested sculk is damaged; harvested shriekers or even shriekers generated by feeding a harvested catalyst can't summon the warden (they look different too, the souls inside are dimmer and spin the other way). my theory is and was that echo shards are a fusion of sculk and something to amplify/preserve its ability to 'remember' what souls sound like. amethyst shards seemed like the obvious choice, both because of the name and because minecraft amethyst is sorta the designated Sound Mineral, plus all the amethyst shards in ancient city loot chests.

on a morbid but relevant note, i think the shriekers sound like that for an in-universe reason, and it's the reason the recovery compass points not just to other players but specifically to your most recent death: sculk probably 'records' only the information it finds important about the things it eats and it doesn't eat the living, so the impressions it has stored of previous souls were recorded at the moment they died. the shriekers are just playing back audio. or possibly forcing the souls trapped inside to relive their deaths over and over. depends on how much of a soul it keeps around after it's done eating it

basically what i think, and i think the update strongly supports this, is that disconnecting sculk from its Sculk Colony messes with its ability to record and relay specific signals. amethyst, due to way it interacts with sound, can partially compensate for this, and this is likely a key mechanism behind how echo shards work. sculk sensors, which are simpler and more durable than the other sculk blocks, are also the easiest to work with, which is why calibrated sensors are possible to craft but echo shards (which have properties of both shriekers and catalysts) are not

I'm not sure if this is a spoiler question or if I am just dumb, but could you please tell me why is Manny so accepting of this whole soulmate bond thing? xd like shouldn't he be the one resisting the bond with all his might and looking for all the ways to break it? Also in the novel, if i remember correctly, the moment he finds out that MC is his soulmate, he says something along the lines of, "I never imagined this, but now that it's happening, hell yeah". Shouldn't he be, idk, resentful? Not cooperative? Unwilling, at least for a while? It's not like MC is some kind of hot catch for him, so why just not get rid of them before the bond even forms?

Essentially, what it boils down to is that, at least in the beginning, that super intense urge to be with someone is something totally novel and unexpected for him.

He has never been in love or gotten emotionally attached to another person.

The newness and intensity of the feeling thrills him because he has been feeling numb for a long time.

He never thought he'd love anyone or even want to, but in that moment where he experienced true desire for the first time, he found he liked it. So trying to kill the MC would be like cutting off his own nose to spite his face.

Then, as time progressed, what he felt for the MC became deeper and was not just because of the bond.

So now he's head over heels and not trying to deny it or hide from it.

Say what you want about him, but self-delusion is not one of his flaws.

John Doe absolutely goes by he/they pronouns. No ya'll can't take this from me.

Even in their female form which is often referred to as "Jane Doe", I feel like that would just piss them off. I think just bc he changes his presentation doesn't mean you get to misgender them. I think despite presentation changes he'd still be himself and still go by John Doe.

So Regular Guys are pretty much pests in the Uncanny Valley. John Doe's eyes are kinda of explained in House Hunted 2 that he has to physically split his eye in half so he blends in. Personally, I think that's got to be uncomfortable all the time, so at home he does go from two eyes to one eye since he feels comfortable about it.

Many would think he's controlling which I think he can be occasionally, but not on purpose. Due to some of the things he has been through all alone, I think he views himself being controlling as protecting you, and while yeah he's a whole yandere I think he's more than willing to hear you out on making him comfortable while also accommodating your- freewill lol.

He hisses at people.

He stares at you when you sleep. There is no way ya'll convince me otherwise.

He doesn't require sleep but understands that you prefer to snuggle in bed with him at night.

He hates any of your plushies. He thinks if you hug them, you like them more than him- but he won't throw them away. He likes how soft they are.

He stutters a lot when trying to explain his feelings to you. He isn't used to people viewing him as a person over a pest.

Despite being a yandere, he is oddly good at communication if you teach him what it is and how to understand boundaries. He's going to slip up and you gotta understand that when going into the relationship.

He just orders takeout a lot. I have a weird headcanon that Regular Guys can make things from thin air so when he orders food he hands them money he just conjures. ((This man accidentally inflates the economy one eldritch magic dollar at a time.))

When he gets all hyper-realistic, he doesn't acknowledge it as "scary" to him he's sort of blind to it happening. While yes he is physically doing it, he doesn't see it so he just- kinda thinks you're being mean to him if you freak out. I think he's a visual learner so cues such as covering your eyes help him understand you're just uncomfortable, but don't love him any less.

He lets you pet his hair and despite the curls it never knots or tangles. Like it never knots up.

He isn't good with animals. Except crows love him. He likes crows.

He does try to clutter your home- and uh that's gonna require you explaining to him that humans need clean spaces to live.

Did I mention he's jealous? However, he can be really subtle about it. He just glares or waits till you turn to go hyper-realistic on someone.

He has an existential crisis in one breath, but in the next will ask you to pass the popcorn. (he is unwell)

For my FNAF bitches, he would listen to your info dump about the FNAF lore any day of the week. Any kind of hyperfixation or special interest of yours he will listen to you talk about it. He can keep up with however you talk and will never ask you to speed up slow down or stop talking. He just likes you.

He can help with chores, water CANNOT be involved.

In his Lil' Doe form (I HAVE DIBS ON THE NICKNAME >XP), he takes dust baths, but because he isn't human he doesn't have to take traditional showers. He can't too or his form does break down so please take care of him.

Despite him hating you taking showers, he learns to accept it due to the fact you explain it is a health thing. He realizes a human being is much more complex than a Regular Guy physically and requires more care than a dust bath.

He makes sure you eat. If you don't eat he becomes paranoid you will die.

Has he killed people for you? Yep.

AITA for remaining pokemon go friends with a horrible person?

So I (20F) was friends with “Emma” (not her real name) (20F) for about 2 years, when we met in our freshman year of college. In this time she was… not always the best person (for reasons irrelevant to the story) but all of our mutual friend group liked her, and I did consider her a good friend. And a thing that we bonded over greatly was our shared love of pokemon go. We were pokemon go friends, sent each other gifts every day on it, the whole thing.

Now about two years into our friendship, Emma did something absolutely horrible and unforgivable to one of our other mutual friends, “Gabby” (also a fake name) (20F). I won’t detail it here for both my privacy and respect for Gabby’s privacy, but it was pretty much the most horrible thing you can think of. The whole friend group cut her off for this, as did I obviously. But I didn’t unfriend her on pokemon go (pogo from now on), because we were so close to the highest friendship tier and I wanted the XP reward for reaching it. So even though I’ve blocked her on everything else, I’ve continued sending her a pogo gift every day, and she sends one back too. I haven’t stopped because now since we’re the highest friendship level the gifts I get from her have really good items. (For people who haven’t played pogo, to clarify, the gifts are free to send, so I’m not sending them to her at any personal expense or at the expense of a different pogo friend). It has been a year since I cut her off and I still send them daily when I send them to everyone else. I only recently re-realized it was her who was still on my friend list at all, and that’s what made me start to worry if it makes me an AH if I continue to do it.

I think I might be the asshole bc even though it’s a free tiny thing, it helps her progress slightly in the game, and it may be seen as condoning her actions to give her even fake “gifts”. But I also think I may not be the asshole because it’s such a small stupid thing to fret about, and it’s not like I’ve told Gabby (or any of my other friends for that matter) this, so what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her? It’s likely Emma forgets it’s even my account she’s friends with. So, AITA for being pogo friends with, and sending gifts to, someone who I cut off for being a shitty friend to me and doing something horrible to our mutual friend?

But farmer likes to take care of you a but more personally because your just oh so sweet. Happily relaxing at his side when he comes into the pasture to relax. Or watching when hes off working, lifting heavy hay bales into their places for his lovely hybrids to munch on.

He may have snuck you a few treats when the others are off being skittish or distracted with their own food. But that's your little secret for being such a good little lamb.

Today's Doodles of Darkwarrior because I rewatched 'Time and Punishment' I adore this episode so much, honestly in my top five favourites.

(legends I'm gonna nerd out here bc I like sharing my thoughts [THESE MIGHT BE VERY SURFACE LVL SORRY]) - In general, his plot of losing his daughter is a good idea, and I think moving to extremes for him works so well. It's pretty obvious as he eliminated all actual crime, he went off and sort of began, Parenting his city--Eg; the curfews and healthy diets.

But him becoming another Alter ego is so fitting. Gosalyn is the whole reason he went back to his civilian life--to take care of her. And with her gone, there's not really any reason for him to be Drake Mallard. Looking back on "Clash Reunion" and "Paraducks" he obviously didn't have the best adolescent years, and once he felt the praise of being someone else (Dw) as a high schooler, he abandoned being Drake Mallard altogether. (assuming cuz of convos in DDTD pt1+2)

Darkworrior in a way works as a good distraction from reality for him, hence the insane obsessing over small humanely errors--to keep him occupied. Granted as time went on he lost a couple screws to the point of him not even changing when Gosalyn returns but ah well.

Also from this ep it's safe to assume Drake isnt the most mentally put together as his whole 'Sanity' was held together by one person. Add this to his very low self-esteem issues, and his claim, 'getting manically depressed on the weekends' it really does make sense for him to go crazy. In conclusion, i ove him and I need ppl to appreciate him as much as i do xp

there's a reason why magnolia's being protected. based on their song in the au playlist, i've loosely decided that they ran into trouble with an ex-boyfriend, one that has connections, & needed to go into hiding. i'm thinking they ended up hospitalizing the ex in self-defense, which pissed off said connections

the specifics of how rose found them are undecided for now, but i imagine she helped fake their death. unfortunately, their ex wasn't convinced for long

lacking physical strength or other particularly notable skills, magnolia is mainly responsible for keeping the mob's base clean & cooking for the other members. they also help clean up the aftermath of any mafia-related deaths that take place within the premises

unable to overpower a potential threat, they make use of long-range; carrying a gun on their person, concealed under their skirt. perhaps a gift from rose so magnolia has a means of self-defense in case they run into danger?

they requested the mask themself. it's likely only rose has seen their face since the day magnolia was taken in

i headcanon magnolia had to be belled due to a habit of being eerily quiet. they aren't particularly stealthy, but they tend to sort of fade into the background when the more rambunctious members are around

my second headcanon is that the scientist mixes up specialized chemicals for magnolia to use to remove bloodstains on various surfaces 👍
