Mumbo is a human but if you draw his blood for testing it comes back as redstone. Change my mind.
i feel like any and all attempts to medically examine him are doomed to cartoonish yet plausibly deniable failure. i think if anyone tried to draw his blood they’d slip on a banana peel and drop the syringe

i always imagine scar as having scar tissue on the side of his face that pulls the edge of his mouth up slightly. not enough to look strained or uncanny, not enough to even realize that's what's happening unless you've spent a lot of time around him, but just enough so that it looks like he's constantly, always smirking a little bit
oh man so see this is Interesting, bc you honestly don’t need the scar tissue to even pull much to get this effect, just giving him a lip scar in the right place would make it look like he’s always slightly smiling
Tumblr media
^tried to show what i mean here, literally nothing else about his expression is different between the two images, just that one tiny mouth scar
(imo a bigger scar there would actually affect his expression LESS than this, because eventually your brain goes ‘oh that’s not part of his mouth that’s something else’ and doesn’t register it as much)

Saw your post on redstone symptoms. Really cool! Quick question though, what do you mean Mumbo 'forgot' to develop symptoms, WHAT THE HECK IS MUMBO THAT HE CAN JUST FORGET TO DO THAT?!
guys he’s been very clear on this how many times is he going to have to say it
mumbo

you understand mumbo like no one else on this website. i have been rewatching s6 and in episode 129 (non-chronological; he shows the results of his redstone before the process) there's bit where he says "i can't test this, but you already know how it turned out, so let me know in the comments whether i've succeeded" and then he continues, somewhat abashed as is the mumbo jumbo way, "i know that's not how time works, but still, some reassurance would be nice"
you see he is very embarrassed to be sidestepping the linear progression of time, he knows it's not the done thing, he's just anxious and could you be so kind this once? "i know that's not how time works but still" translation = he knows he's meant to follow the laws of physics - everyone does it! - but oh dear that one is very inconvenient at this particular moment, so please don't mind him.
-tgh
YES exactly exactly this man will apologize for breaking the flow of linear time as if he used the wrong fork to eat dessert (he is terribly sorry for making a scene)

Hey. Sorry if this is too forward but I saw your post about bones and. Would you like to do unethical experiments for the purpose of research into inventing the ability to shapeshift?
being too forward in asks: unacceptable
unethical science experiments on human subjects: okay and fine as long as you asked politely

Every picture of mumbo inexplicably has his face covered or glitches out with him just cropped. No one knows why. Isakall has been trying to get a good photo for years with no success
i think he should be like mike wazowski
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this has nothing to do with how human he is (extremely) it's just a coincidence
OTHER redstoners though? they do tend not to photograph well, for one very specific reason

hi your sculk post has me frothing at the mouth
What if it WAS warm and comfortable and soft and cosy
What if it also smelled nice, released attaching pheromones like those pitcher plants do, or the goo tasted sweet to lure creatures in
What if it wasn't a smell so much as an absence of the dank musty cave air, and it was a welcome breath of something cosy and comforting that just made you want to curl up and sleep
And then the sculk is soft underfoot, and it feels like it might be wet and slimy but it's actually kind of velvety, in that slightly coarse alive way that a living animal is soft and warm
And you're so tired from mining and exploring and damn wouldn't it be nice to just have a lie down and rest for a bit
And it's so soft and comforting, a bit weird but getting more agreeable by the second
Wouldn't it be nice to just.... Rest your eyes, and your legs.... And everything..... And just sleep.....
OH THE THING ABOUT THE SMELL IS SO GOOD
i really love the idea of it just smelling distinctly like Nothing, or just fresh air, you know that smell when you’re outside on a clear night in the summer and it’s almost-warm but not quite, that’s a smell you’d probably really miss after a long enough time underground
also the sculk does this hypnotic little animation where the little bright parts flicker in waves that could be part of the calming effect as well
but like YEAH the more i think about the more i'm into the idea that dormant sculk would be comforting. sculk not only eats the essence of formerly-living things, it grows in the shape of the places it spreads to. if you think of a more typical concept of an overgrown post-apocalyptic city you probably imagine lots of disruption, trees and vines widening cracks in streets and buildings crumbling, but sculk doesn't do that. your home could be completely eaten and it would still be standing there, you could still walk inside. and chances are that's on purpose

ok i love your redstone exposure art to bits i am chewing on it violently HOWEVER. mumbojumbo is NOT human look at that guy he is a Creature
he's a human! he's gone to great lengths! he specifically tricked grian into signing away ownership of his soul and then crushed him to death in a Device to become one! it's not his fault he didn't know every teeny tiny detail about how they're supposed to work

What do you think about how Redstone exposure effects people other than red eyes, and if the redstone effects their eyes, does it affect how their brain functions?
Do people without redstone exposure notice a difference in the behaviours of people with redstone exposure?
Do hybrids have different reactions? Are hybrids of mobs that are more commonly underground more resistant? Are neither and end hybrids less resistant/more susceptible?
Is there a difference in redstone quality and if there is, does that effect exposure?
Sorry for so many questions, I love world building! Also, may I steal the redstone stuff?
no need to apologize i love getting questions like this!!
i’d say redstone exposure effects vary based on individual biology, and the exact mental side effects are ambiguous on purpose, but different hybrids absolutely have different reactions to it!
(side note i did deliberately write those redstone exposure notes through a framework that doesn’t account for this, they’re comparing the hermits’ protocols to an implied universal safety standard)
but like tango for instance has ‘metabolic acceleration’ listed as one of his symptoms, the idea being that to a blaze hybrid redstone acts as a stimulant—he sleeps less, eats more, and burns hotter the more time he spends around it (to the point where he can even comfortably forego his usual heat-retaining overworld gear while working in an ice dungeon)
and then doc’s symptoms are a huge mystery, both due to his creeper hybrid status and the fact that he basically has redstone for blood at this point. the question is more what symptoms the redstone is experiencing from all this doc exposure
as for redstone quality, love the question bc i didn’t actually consider that yet! my gut instinct is to say no, there’s not a huge difference in redstone *quality* per se, but it does come in a lot of different forms, and i think it would make sense for some to be more ‘toxic’ than others
redstone dust would probably be the highest risk (easy to accidentally inhale/ingest and has nothing containing it), ore/redstone torches/redstone blocks are less messy but still high exposure, things like dispensers that are crafted with redstone are a little safer, etc. i think the most stable form it can be in is probably potions, where it’s encapsulated by xp
and yeah ofc you can use the idea! i feel like there’s a lot of directions you could potentially go with it, like are there acute symptoms? is it addictive? can you build a tolerance? what IS redstone exactly? (i know the education edition has its opinions but i have other ideas) <- all questions i deliberately leave unanswered for fun and profit

You like these questions? I have more!!!
Is Redstone closer in nature to a base or an acid? Does it have corrosive properties if left unchecked and unregulated?
Does Redstone have a catalyst and if so what happens?
Can Redstone be used as seasoning? Is there a hybrid you would attribute a strong enough palette to safely consume it?
What is the general consensus on whether Redstone is dangerous? Are there people who believe that it should not be used?
How does Redstone react with Skulk? Additionally, how does it react with mobs spawning from the Deep Dark such as Wardens?
Would Redstone ever be considered a fashion statement, and if so, as what kind of clothing piece? Could you, if you made it thick enough, potentially knit with Redstone?
Can Redstone be used as a spell component for witches and evokers?
Is Redstone a unlimited resource, and if it isn't, what are the precautions on how much you can use?
Will Redstone alter properties of inherently magical things, like end crystals or totems of undying?
I have so many nessecary and unessecary questions
oh nice questions! (just for the sake of efficiency i'm gna put asterisks by any questions i had answers for already, everything else you can assume i'm making up on the spot lmao)
*Is Redstone closer in nature to a base or an acid?
neither! it's more like a scab :)
*Does Redstone have a catalyst and if so what happens?
no it does not, at least by my understanding of what a catalyst is in this context
Does it have corrosive properties?
hmm i'm gonna go with no
*Can Redstone be used as seasoning? Is there a hybrid you would attribute a strong enough palette to safely consume it?
can? yes. should? no. safely? well, tango's still alive, so...
*What is the general consensus on whether Redstone is dangerous?
the general consensus is that yes, it is dangerous, though the extent of the danger is unknown. safety measures are taken out of an abundance of caution
Are there people who believe that it should not be used?
probably. none of the hermits, obviously, but it would be very easy to disapprove of from a number of angles. at least a few people being Anti Redstone seems pretty much inevitable
*How does Redstone react with Skulk?
...see me after class
Would Redstone ever be considered a fashion statement, and if so, as what kind of clothing piece?
not clothing but i bet there's some level of prestige associated with the color of redstoners' eyes. whether they're considered good or bad would be pretty context-dependent though
Could you, if you made it thick enough, potentially knit with Redstone?
no, but you could probably dye clothes with it
Can Redstone be used as a spell component for witches and evokers?
i don't think evokers have much use for it, and i don't think witches use extended potions (could be wrong there, but also i don't consider the witches to be canon to the game lore)
*Is Redstone a unlimited resource, and if it isn't, what are the precautions on how much you can use?
the stone itself exists in unknown but presumably finite quantities, the signal it emits is infinite
Will Redstone alter properties of inherently magical things, like end crystals or totems of undying?
i don't think so? it does extend the duration of potion effects, though

How are we feeling about our finale 4-6 hours of minecraft bloodsports because I am screaming!!
RIGHT?????? i'm still reeling a little bit, and the art i've seen so far from this session is already SO COOL
also like the sheer amount of role reversals/parallels between pearl and scar's past life seasons is kinda making me go insane. in some ways it came down to scar fighting himself from third life and pearl fighting herself from double life, seeing themselves from the other side, and there is a whole Thing there about their last-minute doomed allyship being forged by deep understanding of each other's situation that a better writer than me could probably make something incredible with.
they're not kidding they literally couldn't script this if they tried
