i asked my followers what traits they associate with my art and then had to try drawing without any of them (readmore for list)

thin smooth lineart -> no lineart

shiny highlights -> no shiny ­:(­

3/4ths angle for faces -> straight on view

expressive eyes -> character is wearing goggles (i wasn’t really sure how to Not do this? it would be an interesting challenge to try to do this without hiding the eyes but i’d need more detail abt what ‘expressive’ means)

good hands -> only one hand is visible + it is a blob

clothing folds -> ok look i was trying not to put any folds on that cloak but looking at it now i think i did it anyway on accident. i was just trying to color it in i swear

minimalist background -> detailed background

it’s mostly a joke but also i keep becoming friends with them. it’s happened too much to be a coincidence. at this point if i really hit it off with someone i just assume they watch nautilus live streams in their free time.

marine biology is so scary because it’s such a small field. i was giving a talk on cetaceans and afterward a woman approached me with her husband and she said, “you did very well. [husband’s name] actually pioneered the research and published the first paper on that. We were very impressed by you.”

Which is such a scientific interpretation/public education win I will cherish forever but also for the rest of my life any time I give a talk I will be haunted by the knowledge that the world’s leading expert who literally discovered/invented the topic might be in the room,

which is like, the opposite of what you’re supposed to do for stage fright. In fact I never used to experience stage fright but now I will.

there's something kinda funny to me about certain ways scar tends to be drawn because it's like. okay imagine hypothetically you took a distillation of fanon scar designs and showed it to someone who's never even heard of a minecraft, and asked them what they think this guy might be like. we're ignoring context here, pretend we're showing them a ref sheet. and it's like, alright, here's a rugged looking buff guy. nice abs. lots of scars. he's got a smug grin on his face. very shirtless. he looks like the love interest in a bodice ripper. i bet he's got some dark angsty secret he keeps buried underneath that suave facade. but not buried too deeply, just enough to intrigue.

and then you go watch third life and he is like a cat whose owner keeps desperately trying to make him stop eating plastic.

people don’t talk about it enough but desertduo/scarian is inherently abusive and shouldn’t be shipped or platformed. Specifically Thirdlife is the biggest culprit but their dynamic in general is just. Toxic and bad.

But like in Thirdlife their relationship is incredibly abusive. The power imbalance between Grian and Scar makes it where the two of them CANNOT be shipped together without it being morally wrong. Grian’s life was in Scar’s hands that entire series, Scar could (and did) hold that over his head. Heck multiple people talked about “rescuing” Grian and it was framed almost as a hostage situation. None of Grian’s choices were his own and I do not think a ship based off of that could be moral and sound in any way. Scar even did kill Grian at the end over a piece of paper, showing how much he valued Grian’s life.

The cactus ring shouldn’t be framed as an end to a tragic love story, but as a victim taking power back and killing their abuser. Scarian fans genuinely should go touch grass and realize they shouldn’t be romanticizing this kind of thing.

if you mean the german one where they're trying to perfectly split foods in half by weight you might be onto something ngl i looked up a clip of it and so far i've known which piece was heavier before they weighed it every single time
