And another thing that gets me about the human condition is how we weren't even meant to survive this world alone - humans with humans. We chose to trust certain animals, to nourish them, to be symbiotic with them, to love them like we love ourselves. I think a lot of people talk about how selfish it is for humans to take advantage of animals, but I think that's too simplistic. It's closer to friendship - if you do not foster the relationship, then it simply won't go anywhere, and I think the implication that animals can't ever know anything for themselves, for their survival, is also human-centric and selfish (selfishness not inherently being a bad thing).

It's just nice to know that we want to be around people - we want to be around comfort and security and safety so much that we now have animals by our side. Every time I cuddle with my cat, I think that we weren't meant to survive this world alone; she is shaped to fit in my chest, and my arms were made to wrap around her.

People with tanks of fish for "decoration" can never know how beautiful actual fish tanks when fully done could ever look like. "It hides the expensive fish I got. >:((((" NO, it brings out the beauty of your fish. Your super expensive fish that you took time to research to ensure the most beneficial life for them look GORGEOUS when not in danger of a terrible tank nor other fish they wouldn't get along with. They vanish behind plants and you see glimpses of their colourful scales, and when they come out? It's better than seeing them 24/7 in A Void.

Anyway, taking this moment to say I went into a thrift store some weeks ago and there was just a big ass tank in the middle of it. Of course I'm not super well versed in fish, but I think I could spot fish that aren't healthy nor getting along, so I naturally went to it because if your store is going to want to be vibe checked so openly, then kudos. The tank was completely decorated and had mostly cichlids (if any other fish, I think just bottom feeders). It was clean, and I took time to inspect as many as I could and from what I saw, no injuries or illness. I was pretty surprised, but delighted, and I can only hope it was as good as I think it is. I'm so used to only seeing fish in stores for buying, so seeing an actual, complete tank like this was really fun. It was pretty big, as well, but I don't know my tank sizes, so I couldn't tell ya just how big. ^^"

Right! Not to mention, fishes are most comfortable in conditions suitable for them, with the company or lackthereof that they enjoy. Adding hides can even increase the time you see your fish, funnily enough, because it means the fish have more places to seek refuge in and therefore they can afford to explore a bit more knowing there is a safe place right next to them! If someone has the money to buy several expensive fishes, they should also have the money to invest in a large tank with lots of gorgeous and fitting decor. A beautiful aquarium truly does bring out the beauty of fishes even more; a daydream of mine is that if I had the space and the money, I would like a massive, massive blackwater tank with lots of driftwood, vegetation, and healthy, earthy brown water from tannins. I would then stock it with dozens of cardinal or neon tetras, or another iridescent fish. Tetras are usually recommended to be kept in schools of at least six, but in the wild their schools can be massive! A large aquarium would allow for the fish to have schools more like they do in the wild, and I bet that seeing dozens of shiny tetras swimming side by side would be amazing.

As for your friends adrift at the thrift store! I do not think of myself as a pessimistic person, but I must admit that more often than not, I expect aquariums in stores and the like to be rather badly maintained. I'm happy to hear that out there, there is a thrift store with a big tank and healthy fishes! Perhaps the owner(s) like fishes but were worried that being away all day would mean they can't monitor the health and/or enjoy their fishes as much as they like? In any case, happy to hear these news! :)

#my most recent awful aquarium experience was when i walked past this one barbershop and they had a turtle in a tank #it was a red eared slider. i do not know their typical sizes but it looked pretty medium for turtles? bigger than my russian tortoise! #it was in this horrid. HORRID tank. no enrichment at all besides for one rock on the substrateless bottom (turtles can do fine without but- #and a single tiny statue of budai. a flimsy ledge for land area that was stacked with rocks in a way that it looked pretty hard to traverse #THERE WAS A SINGLE LAMP. #its so weird. i feel like march 5th went on for more than a day somehow. i guess that's just bc we were awake for just abt all of it #my dad wanted to start doing things immediately so he was calling and scheduling all day. we went to the funeral home we went to the store #and it was weird bc as we were moving around it was like wow we r a 4 person family now. this is it. and theres so much to do after a person #dies. or at least there is when they were loved so much and jesus christ my mom was one of the best ppl a LOT of ppl knew. she did so much #for so so many ppl. and with her childhood she had every reason to b a fuck up but no she was kind and selfless and amazing. her mother is #trying to bask in the attention of her death when its like: truely go fuck urself. her being such a good person has nothing to do with u. u #treated her appallingly. fuck off. and fucking everyone knows it. god. she is a product of her grandparents kindness. and it sounds like her #dad was amazing like her. but he tragically died in a car wreck when she was 3. she was in the car. no one in my mums family believes in a #god now. too many bad things happened to the shining gems in a collection of wild alcoholics. but its not all bad. my family's staying close #my dad is taking it hard bc this means hes alone now and my mum took care of so many things bc she was so smart and he feels so dumb. he #feels he didnt deserve her. hes working on giving more hugs now. and hes using us to anxiously talk things out the way he did with mom #which is good. i cant imagine if this happened when we werent 3 adults and he was windowed with 3 kids to raise himself. and its funny. were #saying things we never would have told her. we looked thru pictures of her and she was so so beautiful. a total smoke show. my parents were #a cute couple who produced cute kids. and my mom had trouble communicating and being affectionate tho we knew she loved us there was #distance. theres a pic of my dad pulling her close and shes being tippef towarf her while standing away and thats indicitive of their #relationship. they were 2 partners who lived together independently and that worked but its sad bc my mum couldnt b vulnerable in her #expression. ppl r being so kind tho. ill be in ohio now for like 2.5 more weeks as the funeral stuff shakes out. we have to have 2 bc she #grew up away from her and so many ppl loved her in both locations. she was a popular lady. its so weird to b here on pause. but i feel clear #in my head. i think this will change a lot of my outlook on life. its nice to focus on the person she was and not the horrible 12hrs where i #saw her half dead. i cant imagine how awful it was for my sisters and dad to see her downslide into death. she didnt expect this to b The #Fever that killed her but it did and now she'll never finish a million things. and the house is full of pill bottles and all her junk and #unopened amazon packages and a truck with the fuel left on empty. bc she was an absent minded goofball. ay. well miss her so much #unrelated

Do I think Izzy Hands is an interesting character with complexity, who could eventually have some form of redemption arc or reveal hidden depth? Sure.

But do I think Izzy is already good, underneath it all, or that exhaustive exploration of his character’s actions as they’ve been presented to this point reveal him to already have hidden depth and to be more than a selfish, cruel, and small-minded antagonist to the story as it currently exists? No.

Honestly, I’m rather bored of most Izzy discourse, especially the takes that try to make the case that he’s already more than he appears. I think he could grow. I think we could learn more about him in the text. But as it is, to me he is only interesting as an antagonist and plot device. I don’t see him as a protagonist and I don’t see him being elevated to more than a side character, even if he does undergo the aforementioned redemption arc in some way. I don’t think there’s more to him and honestly I’m not all that curious in seeing him be more than an antagonist and interesting plot device. I simply don’t like his character enough as a person to do so.

I’m not going to tell people how to enjoy fandom. This is merely a comment on my personal taste.

Stede/Izzy is a NOTP for me, I enjoy their rivalry too much and what it reveals of Stede’s character and his capacity to exhibit anger and unexpected backbone. I think Ed and Izzy MIGHT have had some carnal knowledge of each other at some point, maybe, but if they did it was of even less importance to Ed than his relationship with Jack which was described as a “dalliance” because “anything goes at sea.” Sure, if there was a past physical aspect to their relationship, I think it meant a hell of a lot to Izzy but I don’t see any future for him with Ed that isn’t Ed at his absolute lowest and most depressed making some unwise choices. To me future Ed/Izzy is “darkest timeline” shit. Stede/Ed/Izzy is right out for me too in NOTP land. I ship Izzy with well written Dom OCs that I’ve seen in a couple fics and with anyone the show gives him along those lines in the future, but not with Stede or Ed. Ever.

All of this is really just to say, this is not an Izzy apologist blog. I don’t think about him much and I don���t intend to ever write him in fic as more than a side character or plot device, just as I see him in the show.

I don’t really care about the character’s happiness. I find his current form loathsome, selfish and cruel, myopic in his world view, uncreative and without empathy for others. I personally don’t think there’s much hidden depth there. I think at best he’ll grow or get some sort of redemption or emotional arc down the line, which I’m curious about but they could also end his arc with him dying as part of his comeuppance for what he did to Ed and the rest of the crew and I’d be satisfied with that too. I don’t think that will happen because Con is so lovely and they’ll want to keep him around, but it is a possibility I’d be fine with.

I don’t mind Izzy fans. I think a lot of the emerging Izzy meta from that corner of the fandom is interesting and sheds light on potential facets of the character or the wider story. I just personally don’t have much interest in that corner of the fandom (much like I had little interest in the Thranduil corner of the Hobbit fandom, or the Dis one for that matter). I’m into the show for Stede/Ed and for the humor of the wider crew antics. That’s what you’ll get on my blog and in any future fics I write. / end unsolicited mini rant

It's been a long, long time since Himeko has sat on a floor for any reason other than repairing something too big to fit up on a desk or table. And yet, as her bare feet had come to a stop and the hem of her dress settled in its asymmetrical drape, she'd found herself settling onto the carpeted floor of the parlor car, slightly breathless from dancing. Her cheeks flushed and lips parted, she smiles at Caelus. What a strange man, somehow so easily able to work his way beneath her defenses and get her to *dance*. And in such a loose way.

She huffs a quiet laugh and leans back on her palm, using her hand to support herself. "I've never really done that before," she confesses, using her other hand to carefully wipe the bit of sweat that had accumulated on her forehead. "It was nice. Different." Her eyes squint slightly as her smile widens just a touch. "Thank you."

To think getting lost would be the best form of direction. For someone who found themselves having the Destruction's incarnate woven into his being, maybe such an idea came as second nature. To allow themselves to shatter the shackles of the preconceived, to blur lines that many considered as respect in the name of likeness.

All in the name of just having a good damn time.

It led to a sight that could be represented in the fashioned form of a Curio in it's own right, the way her smile beams with radiance, to how her body tossed off the means of professionalism as they were truly a pair of humans living with their circumstance. Caelus's emboldened grin was the fuel for this very flame, leading to a once somber atmosphere to be kicked up with new life. The once emptied hall of this Astral Express car found itself reinvigorated with their actions.

Maybe in his own way, he was exemplifying Akivili's ideal off and on the rails of this star guided vessel. Once the particular track edged down to it' closing beats, there they'd remain, barefoot and with a fresh sheen of sweat tucked around his features. Even with his silver hair matted to his face, the heat running in his veins, it was the revitalizing factor that truly breathed into him.

"What a good damn time is suppose to be." Caelus adds in, adamant, a reflected sense of approval set within those eyes as he turned towards her. Himeko was someone who was just naturally beautiful, and despite how noticeable that was upon the surface, it captures just how much joy finds itself adding a special shine to her figure.

Stepping over as he situates himself onto a single knee, that's when a harmless prod was drawn towards that brow, a moment of silence granted as he used those fighting rough knuckles to carefully brush some of those scarlet flared bangs away from her face a good second after. "Think nothing of it. After all, I couldn't let this part of ya here take the brunt of a different direction. Look at what'cha was hidin' away this whole time."
