ROUND THREE
MAITO GAI vs UMINO IRUKA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reasons for submission under the cut
Gai
was instrumental in the success of the story - he may not have won against Madara, but he put fear in him and had it not been for hacks, he would have decimated him where no one else could
believes whole-heartedly in his student to the point of dedicating his life to making him a splendid ninja
came from nothing, worked his way up from nothing, and is now considered to be one of the greatest shinobi to have come out of the Hidden Leaf. People know and fear him
made Itachi bail. That man was ready to fight everyone else, but packed it up when Gai came on the scene
kicked Jiraiya in the face and never properly apologized
great salesperson - always has a spare jumpsuit to give to passers-by and hook them on his favorite brand. True influencer and fashion icon
had a bowl cut before it was cool
was a great friend to Kakashi, and was there for him during the highs and lows of his horrifically stressful life. Arguably saved Kakashi's life with his constant support, and the story could not have happened without him. Is considered by Kakashi - one of the most powerful and infamous shinobi in the world - to be his equal and his best friend
loves kids. Supports his own students like he was their father, and equally takes pride in Naruto and protected Sasuke after Sasuke's first run in with Itachi
in the anime, he is shown to be hard on the outside but clearly permissive in that he would sneak Chouji food in the middle of a mission and try to push Naruto into figuring out who Minato was
confident in himself and confident in others - he is everyone's biggest cheerleader and he isn't just talk; he'll work hard with you. When he says he'll do something, nothing will stop him and he will follow his promises even when no one is watching.
hot. Man has pretty privilege
amazing, supportive teacher and friend
he is always trying to be positive in such a dark world and cheer up those around him
he's so good to Lee, Tenten, and Neji, you can just tell how much he cares about those kids
his speech to Lee was super moving. He knew Lee was scared and made sure to be there for him
he was ready and willing to die to defeat Madara in order to save the others
an actual decent upstanding father figure
unbridled whimsy
excellent tits
Iruka
he is kind-hearted and soft and has a big heart
he always has a watchful eyes over his students. But he can also be stern if needed. He knows how cruel the world can be and wants to make sure his students are properly prepared for the dangers they'll face
he doesn't have prejudices against his students. No hostility towards Naruto who was often the victim of misplaced anger due to the Nine-Tails who was sealed within him. Thus, Iruka came to be one of the only adults Naruto respected in his youth as well as the only person who could control Naruto's behaviour to some degree
due to Iruka's more nurturing, protective and compassionate nature, Naruto views him as a mentor and Iruka in turn, views Naruto as a younger brother
he treats Naruto to ramen whenever Naruto returns from a mission, where Iruka gets to see how he is developing as a ninja
his refusal to allow Naruto to graduate at first was not out of spite, but merely out of caring strictness and a desire for Naruto to work harder and reach his own potential
has a great sense of duty, honour and selflessness as seen when he protected Naruto from an attack, suffering a shuriken wound in his back in order to protect him
he regards the children of the village as the backbone of their village, even being willing to sacrifice his own life to ensure their safety
Iruka to Naruto: "Stop acting like a baby! You want to know what I really think of you?! I think you're one of my most precious students… and… you're like a little brother to me."
he is Naruto's first mentor figure. He deserves more credit and screen time!
he's the only adult with a working brain
one of the few adults who sees Naruto as a human being not a God savior
is the only one who actually apologies to Naruto for treating him badly
one of the reasons Naruto turned out the way he did
he deserves a Reise
a nice father figure

Ask game thing
Q. 49
🐦🐦
Thanks for the ask, my dear bird anon! ^^
49.  Which character would you most want to be friends with, if they were real?
As I am a multi fandom writer, I’ll give a character from my main fandoms, I hope you don’t mind?
Naruto - people might think I’d say Shikamaru, given my obsession with the man, but I don’t wanna be friends with him, that’s for sure!! I’d have to say Iruka, I think we would be great friends. I can see him being very sassy, sarcastic and a lil bit bitchy on the sly, and I am here to supportive and cultivate all of that!! We’d sip tea and gossip about current events with dramatic eye rolls and fits of cackling laughter. Something also tells me he’d know exactly who is fucking who at any given moment…👀
Fairy Tail - Levy!! Gods, do I love this girl. She is like my sister soulmate and I like to dream that we would be the best of friends. Again, we are both fairly strong minded and not afraid to stand up for ourselves when someone might dare to trample us. We both love books, writing and enjoy being a shoulder for friends to cry on. As a duo, we’d be formidable. Poor Gajeel wouldn’t know what hit him…📚
JJK - Yuji, baby! The boy is so adorably sweet that I would spend my time cooing at him about how pretty his hair is and making him blush endlessly. I could well imagine I’d spend a good amount of time throwing sarcastic shade at his well intentioned idiocy, likely with the help of Megumi but we both adore him too much to ever wish to cause him any true hurt. He would be the extrovert to my introvert, pulling me into adventures and always holding my hand if I need the support. He is such a good boy! 😭
Black Clover - Finral, but I’d want it to be more. He is just so precious and caring of his friends and younger brother, despite the troubles… we’d have long chats about his childhood and I’d like to think that I could provide him with a safe space to vent his feelings instead of masking them. Maybe with time, trust and understanding, the friendship could develop… if not, l’d always treasure him as my best friend. 💘
I could keep going, but I think that’s enough for right now!! 😅

I read the Naruto Omega request with the alpha commenting about how their kid is just like their Omega (and I loved it so much) but what if the kid is just like their Alpha parent? Like the Alpha hit copy/paste of their kid and it's obvious to everyone, especially their Omega parent.
(Hehe, the reverse, interesting! I got a bit carried away in some places, but this was really fun to write! Enjoy~)
Naruto - Naruto knows his pup looks a lot like his alpha, but they're also like him!! He can see it just fine! You see the way they don't like reading kanji? He didn't like reading kanji when he was their age! You see the way they scratch their head sometimes? He does that too! As far as he's concerned there is lots of him in his child and he doesn't know why no one else seems to see it. He will definitely dress them in the worst orange clothes and style their hair like his to try and get everyone else to notice the similarities.
"No, Kakashi sensei, you don't get it! I had to walk past Ichiraku's the other day and my pup started to cry because we were in too much of a rush to go in. They have great taste, just like me, believe it!"
Sasuke - Sasuke didn't think he was the sort to care that much, but he's honestly a little shocked. Uchiha genes are crazy strong, and he's surprised that his alpha's genes are apparently stronger. He also gets kinda embarrassed because he spent his whole pregnancy telling you that the pup was probably going to look a lot like him and he was very obviously wrong about that. But in the end, he honestly kind of likes it. He doesn't have the best self-esteem and he definitely holds a somewhat subconscious belief that the Uchiha bloodline is cursed, so he finds it relaxing for his pup to look so much like his alpha. It makes him feel like they have a chance at a good life, something he didn't even realise he was worried about beforehand. He prefers his pup to look as much like his alpha as possible.
"Huh," said Naruto, giving Sasuke's pup a glance. "If you were an alpha, I'd say your mate cheated on you, but I guess the pup came out of you, so I suppose you're all good."
"Tch, idiot," Sasuke scoffed, gently brushing his child's hair (his alpha's hair that he loved so much) from her eyes. "Don't be so crude."
Shino - He doesn't really notice, not at first, too enamoured by the fact that his pup is beautiful and amazing and someone him and his mate created together. But after a few comments from others, he starts to realise how little of him seemed to be part of that creation, and he gets a bit melancholic about it. Don't get him wrong, he thinks his alpha has amazing genetics and he loves them both but... he's been excluded from a lot in his life and the fact that he appears to have been excluded from this as well. It hurts. Thankfully, as soon as the pup is old enough to start dressing in the Aburame clan clothes, everyone immediately starts calling them a mini-Shino, telling him how much like their father they are etc. He always puffs up in pride and it doesn’t take long for his friends to notice and they make sure to say that as much as possible to him. I imagine his alpha also picks up on it and goes out of their way to point out the similarities.
"I had to pull him away from exploring in the woods today," you inform Shino, having just walked in from a walk with your pup to allow Shino some peace to clean the kitchen. "He didn't like being told he wasn't old enough yet. Much like someone else I used to know~"
"Is that so?" Shino felt like his heart might burst from happiness that his child loved looking for bugs in the woods as much as he did. "I'll have to take him there tomorrow. Why? Because I want him to be happy."
Shikamaru - If his child doesn't learn to appreciate the beauty of a nap soon, Shikamaru may just have to disown him. He's joking, of course, but he's another one who firmly believed in the dominant genes in his clan, so he is shocked to find that there is now a tiny clone of his alpha running around their house. His pup and his mate gang up on him all the time… poor long suffering Shikamaru. Apart from missing valuable napping/cloud gazing time, Shikamaru doesn't care that much, although he finds it distantly amusing that the future clan head looks nothing like a Nara. Maybe they’ll gain more of his traits as they get older, maybe they won’t, they’re his precious little pup either way.
“If I promise to give you some chocolate later, will you come and take a nap with daddy?”
“No, no, no! Don’t want to! Want to play!”
Shikamaru just let out a long-suffering sigh and resigned himself to being awake for the whole day. Troublesome.
Neji – Neji is so fucking over the moon, he can’t even put it into words. The second he sees his child’s eyes for the first time, Neji starts to cry. They have your eyes. In other words, they have no chance of developing the Byakugan and therefore no need to be given the caged bird seal. The weight that lifts off his shoulders is massive. He has no room in his emotions for any sadness that his pup doesn’t look like him, because he knows how unbelievably lucky he got with this.
You sat by Neji’s bedside, pup cradled in their arms, as you waited for him to come to after the c-section surgery.
When Neji’s eyes finally fluttered open, he immediately focused on the bundle in your arms.
“It’s a little girl,” you answered, understanding his silent question. “Either a beta or an omega.”
Neji didn’t speak, simply holding out his arms to take his daughter from his mate. But just as they transferred him his pup, they whispered something in his ear.
“She has my eyes.”
An unremarkable statement to most, but Neji startled and checked immediately. You were right. She had your eyes.
Exhausted, Neji burst into tears, leaning on his alpha for support and mentally thanking every power that may be for this miracle.
Iruka – Iruka doesn’t have any strong feelings either way. He just wanted someone to love and nurture, what they look like doesn’t mean anything to him. In fact, he’s pretty happy that his pup and his alpha are so similar because it makes him feel like he knows how to parent successfully. He knows his alpha better than anyone after all, so a pup who has the same personality and motivations should be easier for him to parent. He acknowledges every comment about how much his pup looks like you with a laugh. It’s true and it is a little amusing how similar the two of you are. (Also, does Iruka take all your baby photos and then stage matching ones with your pup because he thinks it’s cute how similar you are? Absolutely.)
“Here, if you eat all your vegetables, you can have some of this afterwards,” Iruka promised to his pup, brandishing a plate of both his mate’s and his pup’s favourite food. Without even a moment of consideration, his pup started to eat his vegetables.
Iruka smiled to himself. Works every time. (On both the most important people in his life.)
Itachi – Much like Neji, he’s very relieved that his child is unlikely to be able to unlock the Sharigan. The sharigan has brought Itachi very little good and so much suffering, so knowing his child can avoid that makes him extremely happy. Not to mention, the elders pretty much discard his pup as unimportant immediately, just how Itachi likes it, and while they do start harassing him about having more children, he would much rather that they were bothering him than his baby. He doesn’t let himself be disappointed that his child doesn’t look much like him. He has a healthy and happy pup that he loves with all his heart, and who is free from the perpetual harassment from the Uchiha elders. That’s the best situation he could have asked for.
“They don’t look like an Uchiha,” a blunt twelve-year-old Sasuke said, tilting his head at the bundle in his brother’s arms like he’d never seen a baby before.
Itachi didn’t take any offence and laughed softly, still very weak from the birth.
“Well, technically they are only half-Uchiha,” Itachi answered, absently stroking his pup’s head. “And I think they’re perfect.”

baemochi replied to your post “could you do a nsfw jealous/protective!gaara headcanon”
Wow ! Can you do the same with Kakashi, Iruka and Itachi ?
Oh, I can, and I will! Hell yeah. Let’s do this. Okay…
*NSFW under the cut*
Kakashi
Mmmmmh. Okay, here we go.
Kakashi isn’t that jealous.
The man is protective as shit, though. Everyone he’s ever loved has been ripped away from him, and he can’t take the heartbreak of losing you. He’d die protecting you before he saw you got hurt.
The man knows you can handle yourself, and he knows you’re tough enough to take a few blows. After all, you’ve got each other’s back in battle. It’s your thing.
However, outside of battle, he couldn’t care less. The only time he gets protective is if you’re hurting yourself. That’s another story, though.
Sometimes, though, you like to have a little fun with him.
You stand a little too close to Yamato or get a little too handsy with Genma.
It doesn’t actually bother him because he knows what you’re doing.
And…
And…
And…
The rest will be revealed in time. 👀
I’m working really hard on my celebration guys! It’s A LOT of work, but I’m hoping to release it soon!
Iruka
Please don’t make Iruka jealous. He doesn’t deserve it.
Precious baby bean is too sweet, and he deserves all the love.
He is a lover, not a fighter. We see this firsthand all throughout canon.
His flaw in missions is that he is overly compassionate. The only time he goes into battle is to protect what he loves. He chooses to become a teacher because he doesn’t want to be the reason his teammates are hurt. He’s just pure sunshine.
If someone is making you uncomfortable, though…
This man will swoop in like your prince charming and politely tell whoever is making you uncomfortable to remove themselves from the situation immediately.
He won’t be afraid to break out a kunai if the asshole is gonna come at him, but he’s a “violence is the lowest form of communication” kind of guy. (If you know where that quote is from, we should be best friends.)
If you don’t swoon, I’m gonna steal him away from you because the man deserves someone who swoons for him, and I SWOON FOR HIM!
You’re all heart eyes for the man, and as soon as you get home, you’re the one who jumps his bones.
He’s a little shocked at first, but he gets into it pretty fast.
As soon as he understands why you’re so eager, he starts reassuring you that he loves you, and he’ll never let anything happen to you.
He’s getting off on you getting off on his protectiveness.
You want him to take control, and he makes slow passionate love to you because the man is soft, okay?
And it’s so good because Iruka really feels like you are his and he is yours. Meanwhile you feel the exact same way.
Like, he’s making sure you feel everything and worshiping you like the deity you are.
You come with each other’s names on your tongues and spend the afterglow in a haze of loving caresses and sweet nothings.
The man is a romantic, and he’s made of sunshine. I adore him.
Itachi
Motherfuckin Uchiha
These little shits have a jealous streak a mile wide. It’s in their blood.
They all react to it differently, though.
Itachi’s the quiet brooding poet. He sees it coming.
Someone’s about to approach you, so he watches and waits.
He lets the jealousy simmer while he watches, and when he can’t take it anymore, he slowly approaches like a predator elegantly stalking it’s prey.
He won’t come out guns blazing. He’s a man of stealth. He isn’t one for throwing a fist. He’s studied his enemy’s armor and plunges a knife where they’re most vulnerable.
It’s a quick lash of his tongue with a stone face and a flash of the mangyeko sharingan. He whisks you away before you can even tell the perpetrator is being tortured in a practically inescapable genjutsu.
Basically rushes you home, and throws you on the bed.
Rips his own clothes off along with yours
It’s rough and needy, and he’s taking what he wants, so you better be ready to give it to him.
“I’m gonna put an Uchiha in you, so the entire world will know who you belong to.”
Itachi can be soft, but he can also be rough. This is a whole new level, though. You’re combining his Uchiha Jealousy™ and his Uchiha Breeding Kink™.
He’s fucking you into the mattress until you’re both satisfied.
You probably can’t move after.
Probably watches his cum drip out of you and pushes it back inside you.
Also, I definitely didn’t get distracted for like 15 minutes just thinking about Itachi’s eyelashes while writing this. Why does he have prettier lashes than I do? Also, Shisui.

How i would have liked Naruto ended:
Disclaimer: I didn't finish Naruto, this is all for fun and because i like to complain. Sorry for my English.
Team 7:
Naruto: Not gonna lie, i actually like the fact that he made his dream of becoming Hokage true, but the boy doesn't even know how to count to ten, and if being Hokage makes him a neglectful father and husband, i don't want it. Make him a special Jōnin (Something like Jōnin Commander, as i have read), Hokage guard maybe, give him the recognition he deserves, is all I'm asking for.
Sakura: Sorry not sorry, i don't like SS, i would have loved if she was single, i think that would have been an awesome character development, i love the fact that she funded her own hospital, though. I would have liked it if she was the Hokage instead.
Sasuke: I understand why he left the village a second time, but hear me out: ANBU Sasuke. I would have loved him being Hokage Naruto bodyguard. Let the boys be together, pls. And, as with Sakura, i would have preferred him single, but because i think it's more in character for him.
Sai: I'm okay with him, he seems like he has a happy life with Ino and his child. I just want him to be happy, tbh.
Team 8:
Hinata: If someone fits into the housewife role, that someone is Hinata. But let's be honest, they didn't make her a stay at home mom because they think she wanted that, it was because they're lazy and didn't want to think of something else. I personally think she doesn't want to be a ninja, but being part of the main branch of a super powerful clan in a Shinobi world, they didn't give her a lot of options. But I would have loved if she was a teacher like Iruka-Sensei. Give her a job she can be happy and proud of.
Shino: It's been stated that he was one of the most powerful ones in his class. Make him a Tokubetsu Jonin, or a special ANBU. Let my boy shine.
Kiba: I don't have many thoughts about him, but i would have loved if he was a Jonin teacher like Kakashi or Kurenai.
Team 10:
Shikamaru: He's okay, i guess. I just want him to drink his daily respect women juice, ok?
Ino: OHHHH They did something right. My queen leads her dad's division, he has a loving relationship with Sai, a beautiful family, amazing medic nin, and second founder of a hospital. I'm okay with her 💕
Choji: Again, as Shino, let my boy shine. Make him a special Jonin. Also, i love Chocho soooo much.
Team Gai:
Neji: He lives and is also the clan head of the Hyuga clan because Hiashi died in the war and Hinata thought Neji deserved the role more than anyone. That's it, if someone thinks they have a better idea, they can fight me.
Tenten: Oh, another fallen queen. Make her an ANBU with some specialization in weapons. What's with making her open a weapon store? They were lazy with Tenten.
Rock Lee: My precious boy, what is he doing anyway? I don't know, but i would love is he was a teacher like Gai sensei, i can see him wanting to share all his youthful knowledge. Also, please tell me he adopted Metal Lee, that would be cute. Also, put some sleeves on him, pls.
Teachers:
Kakashi, Yamato and Gai: I'm putting this three together because i have the same request: GIVE THEM A REST. I'M BEGGING YOU, LET THEM RETIRE AND HAVE A PEACEFUL LIVES. They have been in this Shinobi kind of life since they were so little. They're in his 40's, they should have retired at like 25 or something. Let my babies be happy and have a quiet life. Also, make Yamato hot again.
Iruka: I'm so happy that he is the Headmaster of the Academy, but do me a favor and make him hot as hell as he should be. I've said it before, but they made him ugly because they're cowards.
My general complaint is that Naruto's generations is full of the most powerful ninjas, and it makes me mad that characters like Tenten and Shino doesn't live to their full potential. I have read that it's for more "realism", that not everyone is super successful in life, and while that's a valid point, if I'm watching an anime about ninjas and a boy with a demon fox inside him, it's not because i want realism.
If you read everything: Here, have a chocolate 🍫 and feel free to add what you would have liked~

can i request naruto being adopted by uzumaki reader hc or imagines? he's adopted when he still infant. thank u~
Naruto Getting The Life He Deserved Headcanons
I loved writing this ty for asking!
I’m super allergic to cats and my boss brought her cat in today and I’m having an allergy attack so she’s letting me take a break so I’m working on requests😌😙
You’re most likely Kushina’s younger sister or very close cousin; she wouldn’t trust just anyone with her precious baby, so this was probably planned ahead of time
You’re a bit young and slightly confused about how to raise a child, but Hokage Sarutobi and Iruka will definitely be there when you need help
As an infant, Naruto does not sleep. It might be Kurama or just his own restlessness, but you’re up a lot with him at night
You’ll tell him stories of his parents without actually revealing their identities (even though you want to)
Since you’re a bit younger than the typical parent age, he’ll probably refer you as his big sister, since he can’t know that he’s really your nephew/cousin
He looks up to you as if you’re an idol. Most of the village doesn’t care about him in the slightest, but you care so much like what?
When he gets in trouble for pulling pranks around Konoha, you like to think of it poetic justice (not that you would tell anyone) you played the I’m Not Angry Just Disappointed Parent™ in public, but once you got home…
“You should’ve seen their faces, Naru! You got them good!”
At first, you’re a little wary of Iruka because you and Naruto have been alone his whole upbringing, but this man, whose family was killed by Kurama no less, wants to help?
You quickly warm up to him though and he’s a big help in rearing Naruto
Once he gets to the academy, just let anyone TRY and upset this boy
You are not afraid to storm into his class and embarrass someone
“Alright, where is the pink-haired wench who thinks it’s okay to hit my brother?!”
People quickly learn to stop bullying him cause no one wants to face your wrath
When you have to go away on missions, Iruka will check in on Naruto and make sure he eats more than ramen
Speaking of ramen, whenever Naruto has been especially good in the academy or in general, or he’s been extra down or someone hurt his feelings, you’ll treat him Ichiraku ramen and as many bowls as he wants
your wallet cries
When he becomes a Genin, the two of you celebrate all night! You’re probably a little emotional like he’s come so far and you’re so proud
You definitely hate Sakura a bit (sorry to her fans but she abuses Naru)
You and Kakashi get along really well actually
You help him train especially if there’s something he’s struggling with
As he grows older and the Akatuski comes around you can’t help but worry out of your mind
Just one managed to kill Gaara on his home turf, and the whole group is after him?!
You protect this bot with your life and vice versa
He loves you so much and you’re the most important person in his life

Shipping Theory
I have a THEORY about why certain ships/certain people to ship are more common than others. And I will inflict that theory on others so it gets out of my head.
Firstly, let us define some terms to use in this theory. 1:Sunshine child (SC). A character that is primarily happy, upbeat, optimistic, or some combination of those. 2:Dark child (DC). A character that is very down to earth, a bit of a pessimist/realist, cynical, etc. 3: Moon child (MC). A character that has traits of both a sunshine child and a dark child in fairly equal ratios.
Now for my examples. *Pulls up AO3*
Let us look at the top fandoms (that I'm in and know how the characters are in canon) in different media types such as TV, Book, Anime & Manga, and Cartoons.
First order of business: Anime/Manga.
The most popular fandom to write for is currently Boku no Hero Academia/My Hero Academia (BNHA/MHA). From 1st place, the most popular ships are BakuDeku, KiriBaku, TodoDeku, EraserMic, BakuTodo, IzuOcha, Kacchako, MomoJirou. Deku is classified as a SC, very happy and smiley all the time. Bakugō and Todoroki are both DC because they lock all their feelings up and are generally not the kindest or most optimistic person. Uraraka Ochako is a MC with fairly obvious lean towards the sunshine side of the spectrum. Eraserhead and Present Mic are already pre color-coded for your convenience, the first being a DC and the second being a SC. For Yaoyorozu Momo and Jirō Kyōka, they are harder to classify as they are not as prevalent in canon. However, they are solid MC based on what I see. In this one example, a Sunshine child was primarily shipped with a Dark child with only one ship with a Moon child. The Moon child was either shipped with another Moon Child or a Sunshine child. The Dark child was shipped exclusively with a Sunshine Child.
The third most popular fandom to write for is Naruto. From 1st place, the most popular ships are SasuNaru/NaruSasu, KakaIru, SasuSaku, HinaNaru, KakaObi, KakaSaku, MadaTobi, ShikaTema, HinaSasu, and HashiMada/MadaHashi. Sasuke, Kakashi, and Madara are all clear examples of a Dark child. Iruka, Naruto, and Hashirama are all precious Sunshine children. Sakura, Hinata, Tobirama, Temari, and Shikamaru are all Moon children, because they are realists but they are also optimistic. Obito is a tricky case though. As a child, he was definitely a Sunshine baby, but after Madara got his claws into him, he became a dark child. In this case, Obito is still at his core, a sunshine child, it’s just buried under Shinobi life, and just needs to be drawn out. So again the Sunshine child is primarily shipped with a dark child with a few moon child ships. The moon child is shipped with all types: SC, DC, and MC.
I was always told to have multiple examples to back up my theories, so time to move on to the books & literature. I will only cover one example here, since most of my book tastes are more niche and don’t have a huge fandom and I don’t want to have to research too much for this.
And the fandom chosen is the Harry Potter Fandom sitting comfortably at number 1 in the fan works under the tag. The ships, starting with the most popular are: Drarry, WolfStar, Snarry, Romione, Dramione, Jily, Hinny, Snape/Hermione, Tomarry, and Harmony. Only a few characters are really Dark children. On this list, only Snape and Tom Riddle/Voldemort are truly Dark child because they are cynical, they are pessimistic, and for Riddle, downright megalomanic. The rest of them are moon children because they all have their ups and downs, moments of optimism and pessimism, being happy and beaten down. So DC are only with the MC, and the MC are shipped with other MC and DC.
One final example. It’s a monster, one that impacted our culture tremendously, so what kind of human would I be if I didn’t mention it.
The Marvel Universe [For this purpose, I’m only looking at the Marvel Movies/TV shows, not the comics. Otherwise, I’d be even closer to a mental breakdown]. One last time, ranking the ships in order of popularity from first to last: Stucky, Stony, Pepperony, Thorki, Clintasha, BlackHawk/ ShieldHusbands/(Clint/Phil), FrostIron, and a Bucky/reader. I will be disregarding the reader ship as I can’t quantify a reader as a SC, MC, or a DC. Steve Rogers, Clint Barton and Thor are all SC, because they remain happy and joking for most of the universe. Pepper and Phil are Moon children with a more Sunshine bend, they show humor and tease a lot (Even if Phil’s teasing is a little harsher than most). Tony, Bucky, and Loki are all MC with a darker lean. Natasha is really the only Dark child in my eyes given these ships because she is a spy from the Red Room with a ledger soaked in red that is very much a cynical realist and a manipulator (See scene with Loki from Avengers for evidence). SC is paired with MC (typically one that leans a little darker). MC is paired with DC or with another MC that leans towards the opposite side (IE MC with sun lean pairs with MC with moon lean).
In conclusion, we have learned that people prefer to ship the SC with the DC or the MC based on the media and its characterizations. A SC/SC or a DC/DC is not as popular a ship but still exists (See Kirishima Eijirō and Midoriya Izuku ship and the ship of Voldemort(Tom Riddle) with Severus Snape).
My theory is thus: We ship characters that have fascinating interactions with each other, and those interactions are driven by their core personalities being different. A SC and a DC have fundamentally different cores which is why they have an intriguing relationship which is fodder for the shippers, and why those are the prevailing ships in fandoms.

Himawari Chapter 6
Tumblr media
This man will be the death of you.
The first time Iruka had laid eyes on Kakashi’s figure in that field of sunflowers, a voice had whispered in his ear, as if carried by the wind.
Chapter 6 of a Demon Slayer AU.
Iruka, I’m sorry.
His mother had smiled at him sadly the first time he’d mentioned hearing voices. She’d taken him into her warm arms and sang a sweet but melancholic song, her hands running through his hair, the sound of the waves breaching the shore outside eventually lulling him to sleep.
It wasn’t until he was older that he was made to understand the nature of being born a Senju.
Descendants would always be born with bodies that would fail them.
Their karma from having produced a great demon would haunt their line till the day Orochimaru was wiped from existence.
But the gods, in some twisted form of consolation, decided to bestow their kin with exceptional foresight, allowing them to amass their fortunes, and continue their fight till this day, leading the demon slayers.
Of all the voices Iruka had heard throughout his life, the one that would have saved his parents never reached him.
Iruka had been a sickly child, too weak to lift a sword. He could manage a kunai at least, much to his father’s relief, and soon, he began his training in the shinobi arts. Poisons, traps, diversions and an almost inhumane focus on accuracy made up a large part of his childhood memories with his father. Bittersweet, but precious nonetheless.
Ikaku hailed from a small shinobi village on the Izu coast, its destruction eventually leading him to the demon slayers. He’d been reporting to Sarutobi at his estate when he came across a visiting Kohari.
“He was as red as a tomato.” Sarutobi would chuckle, grinning widely as he recounted that first meeting. His father’s dour demeanour had been well-known amongst his comrades, but so was his sense of duty. It made his desertion with Kohari all the more shocking.
“The burden of being a Senju is not an easy one to bear, Iruka. She wanted to protect you, however she could.”
It was the night of his thirteenth year. He was managing a squirming Naruto in his arms when Sarutobi had said that. Had Iruka followed the path he was meant to walk, he would have already been married to a wife chosen by the temple, and the baby in his arms would have been his own, one who would eventually endure the same cycle of karma as their ancestors before them.
If being thankful for avoiding that fate made him a coward, so be it.
His parents had brought him to Sarutobi several times as he grew older, despite the lingering fear of retribution for deserting. With his instruction, Iruka had eventually worked up the strength to even wield a sword, something Sarutobi considered an achievement in itself, even if his stamina would always be left wanting.
“If something happens to us, go to him.”
Those were the last instructions they gave him before they had set out from their home. A week prior, a talking crow had appeared, bearing news of the coming birth of an Uzumaki, and the hoard of demons and familiars who were beginning to gather. His mother, already in a weakened state, simply looked at her husband resolvedly.
Perhaps she too, had received her own revelation. Ikaku had deserted the corp, but never his will to protect the weak from demons. His blade had never seen a dull day, and this time, he would not let his old comrades face the coming threat alone.
They’d died fulfilling their duties.
Iruka was proud of them. He’d told them as much, praying before the empty grave markers he’d made outside their home.
He’d just wished they hadn’t left him behind.
---------------------------------
If he closed his eyes and focused, he could hear the beat of Kakashi’s heart.
Like the rumbling of a storm forming in the distance.
As a child, he’d run out of the house to stand on the edge of the cliff where his parents’ graves now stood, watching with fascination as the darkening clouds gathered where the sea met the sky.
If he closed his eyes, he’d find himself there yet again.
“Naruto, keep yourself together. Not much longer now.”
Surprisingly, the boy nodded obediently without complaint. He’d been strangely quiet. They were passing through another wisteria grove, and Iruka found himself being carried on the Hashira’s back as they made the last of their way back to the school. Kakashi had insisted; he wasn’t in good shape, despite the rest he had gotten.
An hour ago when they’d left the cave, he’d slipped an arm under his knees and back, lifting him up as easily as one would a child. Resistance at this point was futile, and Kakashi’s amusement seemed to grow the redder he got.
This man will be the death of you.
Tumblr media
The first time Iruka had laid eyes on Kakashi’s figure in that field of sunflowers, a voice had whispered in his ear, as if carried by the wind.
It wasn’t said with any kind of discernible malice, nor was it tainted with foreboding, like so many of the voices he’d heard before.
It was gentle and lined with warmth, almost as if it was meant to comfort him.
Mother?
Iruka had been so shaken by this, he’d forgotten to offer his name to the Hashira when they finally met.
Nearly two months later, here he was, flush against a warm and broad back that reminded him painfully of his father, Naruto trailing sleepily behind them.
If this was what that voice was referring to, perhaps it wasn’t the worst way  to go.
---------------------------------
They moved at a steady pace amidst the rain of falling petals overhead, and he was just about ready to doze off before Kakashi’s musings reached his ears.
“I was thinking...we’re not too different after all, Iruka-sensei.”
“What do you mean?”
“The Final Selection. I didn’t pass either.” He admitted softly.
“I’ve heard Naruto tell better lies, Kakashi-san.” Iruka couldn’t imagine a world where it could be true.
“You wound me, sensei. I’d never lie to you.” Iruka thought he almost sounded serious for a moment, but Kakashi sighed wistfully before continuing, a little more subdued than Iruka was used to hearing.
“After my father died, I ended up at a school. I met a boy, Obito, and a girl, Rin there. Minato-sensei eventually came and took us as his apprentices.”
“Obito was an idiot, but we became rivals. We entered the selection together. I’d always made fun of him for being a crybaby and a goody-two shoes, but he ended up saving many of the entrants that year.”
“We ended up against a demon who’d survived on the mountain for over three decades, eating humans and absorbing other demons. We were outmatched, and I’d lost an eye, but...Obito managed to activate his Sharingan.”
The Sharingan; so Obito was a descendant of the Uchiha, Iruka realised. Like the Uzumaki, they’d come from a long, ancient line of demon hunters. Their eyes were said to have granted demon-like perception, but at a steep price. Much like the Senju, none with an activated Sharingan would live to see old age. By now, they had been all but wiped out, after one of their members had become a demon, slaughtering and sparing not even a single child,
“We thought we’d defeated it, and I’d let my guard down. The cave we were in collapsed on us.” Kakashi continued. “Obito protected me and took the blow, but his right side was crushed.”
Iruka’s hold on Kakashi’s shoulders tightened on reflex. He knew what was coming. The eyepatch over Kakashi’s left eye, along with his fame as a Hashira, was more than enough.
“Rin was skilled enough to fulfill his last request, but I lost consciousness right after, and when I came to, the selection was over. Obito was the only one who failed to make it that year.”
Kakashi looked up at the wisteria flowers overhead.
“So you see, sensei, I don’t deserve to be standing here right now. I didn’t pass the selection like I was supposed to.”
Iruka pressed closer.
“Please don’t say that. It hasn’t just been Naruto and my life you’ve saved.” Iruka whispered. How many lives had Kakashi rescued since becoming a slayer, too many to count, in all likelihood.
Passing the selection meant you had to survive a week on that battlefield, and Kakashi had, by all means, passed. Most of the entrants would have been children.
The demon Kakashi had faced might have been an outlier, but the thought of Naruto having to go through the same ordeal was almost too much to bear.
“You don’t resent the Senju for all this?”
It was a question only a Hashira could answer. They were the only ones in the corp who knew the identity of their leader; it was a secret as closely guarded as the location of the family estate. The rest of the corp knew him only as “Oyakata-sama”.
“I can’t say they’ve done everything right, but they are doing their best.” Kakashi stated. There must have been more he wanted to say, he’d refrained from doing so.
They continued walking in silence for a while more, but a question had been circling in Iruka’s mind since Kakashi had mentioned it the night before.
“Kakashi-san...your father, did he...look like you?”
He felt Kakashi’s pace hitch for just a beat.
“Why do you ask?” It was barely a whisper.
“If he did...I might have seen him before.” Iruka admitted.
It was one of Iruka’s earliest recollections. The man had hair much longer than Kakashi’s, and though Iruka had yet to see most of the Hashira’s face, the aura they projected was remarkably similar.
The man fought Ikaku outside their home. It had been a fierce battle, and the first time he’d seen his father fight another human. Kohari had been holding him, and she’d been more scared than Iruka remembered being.
“I think he’d been sent to find us. Father called him -”
“Sakumo.” Kakashi finished. Iruka nodded.
“He didn’t say very much. They fought, and after a while, he just left.”
Kakashi snorted. “That sounds just like him”
Iruka smiled wryly. He’d left out the fact that Sakumo had beat his father half an inch from his life. With a wave, he’d left with a satisfied look on his face, together with the hound he’d arrived with.
“He’d found us, but nothing ever happened after that.”
Kakashi chuckled softly. “So he was testing your father’s resolve then.”
Iruka smiled.
“He must have been a good man.”
“What makes you think that?” It almost sounded like a test.
Iruka had only ever seen his father cry twice. The first, when he had to accept there was nothing he could do for his wife’s declining condition. The second…
“My father cried when the news came.”
That Sakumo had killed himself, having been turned a demon. Even if it had been against his will, his village would have shunned him, even in death. His family too, would have been made outcasts.
Kakashi remained quiet, and Iruka was slowly beginning to regret bringing up the subject.
“Thank you. It’s good to know I wasn’t the only one.”
Gods.
Tumblr media
He closed his eyes, feeling like the child he used to be, watching the storm brewing on the horizon. Sakumo and Kakashi, watching them in battle, had felt exactly the same way.
He thought of his parents, who were watching him from wherever they’d gone.
Father...Mother…
If there is any happiness out there meant for this man…
Please, guide him to it.
---------------------------------
Iruka had requested for the last of his dignity to be spared, and so just before they’d arrived at gates, Kakashi set the teacher back down on his two feet. Strapping his sword back into his belt, Iruka checked on his young charge, who had been almost unnervingly quiet since they’d set out this morning.
“Naruto, something wrong?”
“I’m fine, sensei.” He could have been a lot more convincing if he’d looked Iruka in the eyes. Iruka’s expression grew more concerned, and he placed a warm hand on the boy’s head.
“You must be starving. I’ll have them fix you something as soon as we get back.” The boy nodded in response, and the three of them walked towards the gates.
“What the heck happened to you?” Izumo and Kotetsu had run up to them as soon as they were in sight. Iruka scratched the back of his head and sighed.
“We ran into some trouble on the way back. One of the entry points’ been destroyed, and we encountered a demon at the cave by the ravine.”
“You’re serious. It’s the second one this month. We’ll have to let the others know. You look like crap by the way.”
Iruka rolled his eyes in Kotetsu’s direction.
“Who took over my class today?”
“Oh, Mizuki did, he wasn’t too happy about it either. He says you owe him a main dish at dinner.”
“Right.” Iruka sighed.
Behind them, Izumo went up to Kakashi, holding up a slip of paper to the Hashira.
“A message arrived this morning for you, Hatake-dono.” Kakashi thanked the man, and looked at the letter’s contents.
The Snake Pillar has arrived. Your presence at headquarters is requested. Your debriefing will be held in two days.
So Anko had returned. A debriefing…
Kakashi’s gaze found Iruka’s back. He’d gone up ahead with Naruto, but turned around to send a tired smile his way.
Was this feeling...Disappointment?
Perhaps.
Despite the realisation, he found himself smiling too.
It had been a long time since he’d had something to feel that way about.
---------------------------------
“I see.”
Iruka was staring into his tea cup again.
“Naruto’s in good hands, Iruka-sensei.” Kakashi said, sipping at his own tea. He’d spent the afternoon packing his belongings.
It had been years since Kakashi had spent this much time in one place, but it wasn’t as difficult as he’d expected. Two months had gone by in the blink of an eye, and he’d been given precious time to think about things he’d brushed off before.
Like why he was still alive. Why he was still a demon slayer.
Despite everything he’d lost, living the life he did, it was easy to forget.
“I’ll send Bisuke and Guruko when I can.”
Iruka laughed softly. “Not that anything exciting happens around here, but I’d like to hear about your adventures, Kakashi-san.”
The teacher’s face seemed to brighten at his words. His face was faintly flushed, and his smile was warm. It was different from the one he’d seen the day they’d first met, the one that was meant to greet a superior. Kakashi liked to think they could be friends.
That night at dinner, when Iruka gave up his dish as compensation to Mizuki for covering for him, he’d laughed when half a grilled fish appeared on his empty plate.
It was a worthwhile sacrifice to hear it.
---------------------------------
“Naruto’s resting in bed. He’s still pretty out of it I’m afraid.”
Iruka scratched at his scar sheepishly.
They’d walked together till the gates were out of sight. Guruko was trailing behind Kakashi, but when they’d stopped, Iruka kneeled down to give her a satisfying rub.
“Don’t let Kakashi-san work you too hard, Guruko.” He whispered. Guruko barked happily in agreement. Iruka laughed, and rose again to face Kakashi.
“So this is where we part.”
“For now.”
“For now.” Iruka repeated, nodding.
He reached a hand out towards the Hashira, who took it firmly in his own.
“It’s going to be a bit lonelier now. Keep safe, Kakashi-san.”
It was a hard ask for someone who’d lived to throw themselves into battle.
“Well, I’ll do my best, Iruka-sensei.”
He would. Kakashi had to stay alive, now that he’d found a new reason to fight.
“Maybe I’ll find a way to defeat Orochimaru, and you’ll finally be able to leave this fancy cage you’ve built for yourself.”
If the gods are willing, you’ll get to see Naruto grow up, or even have a family of your own.
Iruka’s eyes widened, before softening again. He let go of Kakashi’s hand.
“I’ve never thought of it that way, but thank you, Kakashi-san.”
“I’m really glad I got to meet you.”
Kakashi smiled at him one more time before he started walking. Lifting an arm, he gave a lazy wave before eventually disappearing from sight.
---------------------------------
It should have only been the two of them, so why did he feel a third presence?
Iruka felt a burning sensation in his chest.
It hurt to breathe.
He pried his eyes open.
Naruto lay in his futon an arm away. But he was wide awake, and he was staring at Iruka wordlessly; not with his sky-blue eyes, no.
The eyes that bore into him now were slit, and glowed orange like a molten fire.
“Naruto...?” Words struggled to leave his throat, but the boy didn’t respond. Iruka felt despair grip him. If this wasn’t a nightmare, what was he to do?
He did the only thing he could think of.
Reaching an arm out to Naruto, he pulled the boy to his chest. It was as if he’d held his hand to a naked flame. His entire body burned.
He heard a faint growl and felt the child struggle under his arm, and despite his burning lungs, Iruka held him closer.
“Naruto, it’s alright. I’m here.” Iruka cried.
No matter what happens. I’m here.
The boy stiffened in his arms, but soon relaxed into his hold. The heat emanating from his body dissipated, and Iruka found the strength to take in air once again. The third presence he had felt faded from his senses, and the boy was soon breathing in the relaxed rhythm Iruka had come to know.
Closing his eyes, he recalled Kakashi’s words the day before.
Naruto’s in good hands...
I can only pray you’re right, Kakashi-san.

Author’s Notes:
Ohh, I wasn’t kidding when I said this was going to be a slow burn. ;_;
It’s not a chapter with too much going on in it, but I hope it was an enjoyable one nonetheless! I’m curious as to what you think (if you’ve read Demon Slayer) and how it’s been used as a backdrop for this fic. Of course, things have been changed a bit. : )
I’m really happy with how the art turned out for this chapter though! I’ve had to teach myself how to draw again after a long hiatus, and this was the first time I’ve been satisfied with the end result, so I hope you enjoy it too!

Group Project Sharingan-Stealer Iruka - Part 1
There was a new kid in class, Iruka noted absently as he eased his hand under his desk, pressing a small wad of what looked like chewing gum there, fighting to keep a straight face. At the front of the classroom, Aki-sensei was scribbling on the blackboard and babbling about this… Iruka paused, doing a double take. They were getting a baby in their class!
Okay, not a literal baby, but he might as well be! He was barely half the size of everyone else in the room, with big dark eyes, soft black hair, and chubby baby cheeks. Iruka fought not to laugh - what was this kid doing in their class? They were going to graduate in a few months, why on earth would they be moving this kid into their class now?
“I hope you will all be welcoming to Itachi. We have high hopes for him - for all of you -” here Aki-sensei paused to glare at Iruka, “to pass your upcoming assessment and graduate to Genin-rank.”
Iruka didn’t bother to hide his scowl at that. He’d been held back during the last assessment because of his poor written marks. And his poor practical scores. Also probably because he’d skipped the first half of the test to try and drop water balloons on the ANBU standing outside Hokage Tower. The real trap had actually been trying to corral them into tripping a wire that would send a ink-filled balloon at them from a completely different direction, but, like all the other times he’d tried to pull one over on the ANBU, it hadn’t succeeded.
He had been scolded pretty soundly by two of them, and then frog-marched back to the Academy, only to realize that Aki-sensei hadn’t reminded them about the test the day before, so he hadn’t known to show up on time. Or maybe she had reminded them, and Iruka had slept through it? Anyway, he’d missed most of the graduation exam, and Aki-sensei wasn’t about to let him forget it. Other than harassing him about tests, though, she had precious little to say to him that wasn’t critical and honestly just obnoxious, and Iruka got enough of that at the orphanage, so was it any wonder that he tended to tune her out?
“Hey Iruka,” Mizuki whispered, “check out the new kid. He’s an Uchiha.”
Iruka rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I noticed.” It was hard to miss the fan shape on the kid’s shirt, after all. Did Mizuki really think he was that dumb? He may not be great in school, but he knew the clan crests! At least, the important ones. Mostly. Anyway, Uchiha was an easy crest to recognize because it looked like a fan.
“No, idiot, I mean,” Mizuki shot back with an irritated grimace, “He’s an Uchiha. I heard they’re the ones responsible for… you know.”
“I don’t know,” Iruka replied, frowning. “Responsible for what? They’re the military police, I’m sure they have a lot of responsibilities.”
Mizuki glanced back and forth like he was going to tell Iruka a secret, and then whispered very loudly, “They’re the ones who caused the Kyuubi attack.”
Whispers rippled across the room as eyes turned to land on the new baby in their class. They didn’t have any Uchiha kids in their year, or hadn’t, but Iruka had seen a couple of Uchihas around the academy in some of the lower classes. They didn’t seem like the sort of people to be letting nine-tailed demon foxes loose in the village, but what did Iruka know? The Uchihas mostly stuck to their own compound, except when they were in school, and Iruka couldn’t recall ever meeting one outside of school. He scowled down at the kid. If his family was responsible for that night… Iruka swallowed hard. It had been two years since that night, but sometimes his throat still burned like he’d never stopped screaming.
Slowly, he forced his eyes away from the tiny kid in the front row. What his family had done wasn’t his business, anyway. As long as he didn’t bother Iruka, he didn’t have a problem with the little kid.
Itachi Uchiha was starting to get on Iruka’s nerves. It wasn’t like the kid was
trying
to annoy him necessarily. At least, that didn’t seem to be his intent. But his very existence felt like a splinter stuck under Iruka’s skin that he couldn’t seem to dislodge, setting him on edge. And then,
then
he’d started to actively get a rise out of Iruka. It wasn’t just the way that this
tiny baby child
had waltzed into their classroom and
immediately
risen to the top of the class in test scores, or even the way he managed to
always
master everything in their practical skills work. It wasn’t even the way he was
always
raising his hand in class to answer questions, or
worse,
ask
questions, which would lead Aki-sensei on a tangent when Iruka just wanted to
go outside
and not sit at a desk and listen to a boring teacher blather on about boring rules. No, the thing that made Iruka genuinely irritated was the fact that Itachi kept
ratting him out.
It had started on the very first day. After Mizuki had made his not-so-subtle announcement about the Uchiha clan and their supposed connection to the disaster from two years ago, Itachi had taken a moment to turn and glance back at the rest of the room, his gaze sweeping over the class before frowning at Iruka. Or, more specifically, the ‘gum’ under Iruka’s desk. Then, he raised his hand.
“Yes, Itachi?” Aki-sensei said, pausing mid-lecture. “You have a question?”
“Not exactly,” Itachi answered, his dark eyes drifting back over his shoulder to peer at Iruka. “Are exploding tags allowed in this classroom?”
Iruka was going to strangle him. He’d planned this out to the letter, and now this tiny kid was going to ruin it? He gripped his pencil so hard it almost broke, widening his eyes at the little Uchiha as if to say “don’t you dare,” but the little kid seemed totally unmoved.
“No,” Aki-sensei said, her eyes drifting from Itachi up to where he was staring: Iruka’s desk. “They are not. Iruka?”
Desperately, Iruka tried to salvage the situation, lifting his hands in the air. “Look, I don’t have an exploding tag, my hands are empty-”
“He was sticking it under his desk while you were writing on the chalkboard,” Itachi interrupted. “I saw him hide it under the gum.”
“It’s not an exploding tag!” Iruka barked back, irritated.
“Oh?” Suddenly, Aki-sensei was across the room, standing beside his desk. One of her eyes twitched as she stared down at Iruka, a dangerous gleam in her stare. “And if it’s not an exploding tag, then what is it?”
… he should have seen that one coming. Iruka glared furiously at Itachi, who had already turned around in his seat and didn’t seem to notice the enraged look Iruka was tossing in his direction. If Iruka knew how to radiate a killing intent, he would have, because what was this kid’s deal? It wasn’t like he was going to be personally affected by a little stink-bomb, especially not one as weak as the one Iruka had thrown together this morning by modifying a stolen exploding tag from the training grounds. It was set to go off at a specific trigger, specifically exposure to chakra, which would probably be when Aki-sensei peeled the gum off the desk at the end of class, because he’d used some chakra to stick it right at the edges, and Aki-sensei wasn’t one for finesse, so knowing her, she’d just blast the whole thing with chakra to peel it off, and then… boom! The room would be filled with the smell of rotten eggs. It wouldn’t have bothered anyone else, just smelled up the room and probably also Aki-sensei. To match her stinking personality, because she hated Iruka and never bothered to hide her disdain, so why should anyone care if she smelled as stinky as her attitude?
“...it’s just a stink-tag,” Iruka groused.
Aki-sensei scowled down at him, folding her arms over her chest. “If it’s just a…” she made a small confused face, “…stink-tag…” she shook her head at the unfamiliar phrase before continuing, “then, I suppose you know how to remove it without setting it off?”
Iruka nodded slowly, his mind already spinning as he re-evaluated his options. He fought to keep his expression neutral as an idea occurred to him. Really, Itachi had brought this on himself with his meddling. If he hadn’t said anything, the only person who would have been affected was Aki-sensei and her nasty attitude.
Aki-sensei was watching him with her sharp gaze. “Honestly, Iruka, sometimes I wonder why you even bother coming to class at all,” she snapped, “if all you’re going to do is make trouble, you might as well not be here.”
Iruka agreed, in a general sense. He didn’t want to be in Aki-sensei’s classroom any more than she wanted him there. But he wanted to become a ninja, a great ninja, like his parents, and that meant he had to graduate from Ninja Academy, even if it meant putting up with mean people like Aki-sensei. “Yes, sensei,” was all he said, reaching under his desk and minding his own chakra, making sure to keep it well away from the ‘gum’, peeling the sticky substance away from the desk to reveal the small tag he’d altered that morning. Then, with a smirk, he turned to face the front of the classroom, and shouted, “Hey, Itachi! Catch!” and pushed a tiny bit of his chakra into the tag as he threw it at Itachi’s head. The tag exploded before it reached the kid, really almost as it left Iruka’s hand, but it was the thought that counted, Iruka decided. The odorous smoke trailed across the room, covering mostly Iruka and Aki-sensei, but also quickly filling the entire classroom with a horrible stench.
Despite the urge to gag, Iruka had to admit the tag had worked well. Next time, he’d have to figure out a detonation timer, or distance trigger for it. It worked basically the same as a regular exploding tag, but with less concussive force and more smell, so he was fairly confident he could get it to work. He grinned, even as Aki-sensei grabbed his shoulder and shook him hard, scolding him about whatever. He wasn’t listening. Instead, as their classroom was being evacuated, amidst the coughing, choking, and streaming eyes, Iruka caught Itachi’s cool, dark gaze, and winked at him. The Uchiha looked away. Heh. Score 1: Umino Iruka.
Iruka’s detention after school to air out the classroom and scrub it top-to-bottom was worth it, he decided. Maybe next time Itachi would think twice before selling him out.
…he did not.
~~*~~
In the weeks that followed, Iruka discovered a few new facts about Uchiha Itachi.
Fact one: Itachi was a rules guy.
He didn’t particularly care what the retaliation would be, if he saw Iruka breaking a rule, he would say something and it would suck. Iruka was usually able to get away with a few pranks here and there just because Aki-sensei couldn’t prove it was him, but with Itachi’s eagle-eyes following him everywhere, it seemed like he was getting detentions nonstop. At this point, Aki-sensei had taken to making Iruka stand in the corner of the classroom and stare at the wall for a few hours after every prank. Then she had the audacity to get mad when Iruka would come in the next day without his homework! He was an older kid in the orphanage, he had chores to do, and he was spending detention staring at a wall! Maybe if she let him do his homework instead of standing around doing nothing, he’d actually be able to finish it! Not that he bothered saying as much - she would have just accused him of making excuses.
Another fact about Uchiha Itachi: He was a genius.
It was more than just how good at everything in school he was, he was also good at catching Iruka when Iruka was trying to pull a prank. He was better at that than his teachers, even! In a way, Itachi reminded Iruka of the ANBU around Hokage Tower, able to somehow spot every trap he was setting up and avoiding every piece of it as if it was nothing. Itachi seemed capable of effortlessly noticing, dismantling, and alerting the adults whenever Iruka tried to pull something, and he took it as a personal challenge. Iruka stopped caring so much about pranking Aki-sensei, who at this point had taken to ignoring him all over again. Instead, he started trying to get Itachi.
A lot of the classic pranks didn’t pan out, and Itachi just reported him to Aki-sensei, who had him stand in a corner until after dinnertime, which usually meant he’d get back to the orphanage late and have nothing to eat and still an hour or two of chores before lights-out. So after a few failed attempts, Iruka moved on from that, but he didn’t give up on the idea. As much as it sucked to go without dinner for a night here and there, he had Itachi’s attention, and he felt like maybe this was a prime way to practice his ANBU traps without alerting any actual ANBU to his early attempts. As he took his time coming up with new pranks, part of Iruka even wondered if Itachi might be enjoying himself, too. It was hard to tell.
This tied into fact three about Uchiha Itachi: He reacted to basically everything in a calm, methodical, mild manner.
Since he never seemed to respond to anything, his lack of reaction to the pranks seemed fairly normal to Iruka. Itachi never seemed especially surprised or angry, and he only really smiled when he was talking about his baby brother, Sasuke. But Iruka thought that maybe Itachi enjoyed the challenge of spotting his pranks, of reporting him to Aki-sensei, almost as much as Iruka enjoyed trying to think up new ways to get him. If he didn’t, then why would he keep doing it? Surely it was easier to just let Iruka do what he wanted.
Things continued on in this way for about a month. Iruka would set a trap, Itachi would spot it and report him to Aki-sensei, Aki-sensei would make him stand in the corner, and Iruka wouldn’t turn in his homework the next day. It became almost routine, until Aki-sensei told the class they would be doing a group homework project. Instantly, everyone started trying to grab their friends and pair up - but Aki-sensei cut them off, saying that everyone would be drawing names from a bag, instead. Starting at the front of the room, she had the students pass the bag to the student beside them, writing down the student pairs on the blackboard as they went.
At least, that’s what she did until Itachi fished out the name of his partner and read it aloud. “Umino Iruka.”
Whispers danced across the classroom. A few of the more dedicated students in the front rows whispered variations on “ouch,” and “tough break!” and “glad I’m not you!” to Itachi, who, as usual, didn’t seem to react at all.
Pressing his lips together to keep from yelling at the other kids about how he was glad he wasn’t them, Iruka clenched his fists. He knew he wasn’t a good student. He knew nobody wanted to be paired up with him when it had to do with studying. He knew that. But it still hurt to hear them say it.
Aki-sensei, meanwhile, was standing at the blackboard, her chalk hovering over the spot where she should have been writing Iruka’s name next to Itachi’s, verifying them as homework partners for the project. Instead, she was frowning. “I don’t normally do this,” she said, “But, if you’d like, Itachi, you can pick a different partner.”
Iruka felt his stomach clench. If he’d like? Of course he’d like! No one wanted to be paired up with Iruka for homework, even Mizuki had scooted over to ask someone else to be his partner before Aki-sensei had brought out the name bag. Iruka stared down at his desk, willing his face to stay neutral, not to show emotion. It didn’t matter. He wasn’t going to work on this project anyway, so it didn’t matter that no one wanted him. They were right not to want him, it’s not like he wanted to work on this project with anyone anyway.
“No,” came Itachi’s soft, measured voice, “I’m fine with Iruka.”
Iruka hadn’t realized he’d been holding his breath until it escaped in a whoosh. His head jumped up and he stared at Itachi, baffled. Why would Itachi agree to work with him if he had another choice? If it hadn’t been Itachi, Iruka was pretty sure that Aki-sensei wouldn’t have offered, but she liked Itachi, and hated Iruka. She looked even more shocked than Iruka, still standing in front of the blackboard, chalk in hand, the space next to Itachi’s name still blank.
“You’re sure,” Aki-sensei said, reluctance clear from her tone of voice.
“I am,” Itachi answered, passing the bag of names to the student to his right. “My partner is Iruka.”
And despite the fact that Iruka couldn’t stand Itachi, he felt a small bloom of something warm in his chest. Itachi hadn’t tossed him aside, even though literally everyone else in the class wouldn’t work with him unless they were forced. But Itachi had not only not been forced to work with Iruka, he’d chosen to work with Iruka even when given the alternative - encouraged to take the alternative!
Iruka, who had up to this moment intended to do nothing on the project, found himself wondering if he could clear up some time after school to work with Itachi. He’d probably miss dinner again, the orphanage was pretty strict about mealtimes. But he wanted to do something to show Itachi that he was glad not to be tossed aside, for once. It felt nice. He knew, intellectually, that Itachi hadn’t specifically requested Iruka, but after two years of being avoided, ignored, and actively rejected by most of his classmates when it came to academics… well, he didn’t want to give Itachi a reason to reject him next time.
Slowly, painfully, Aki-sensei turned and wrote Iruka’s name on the board next to Itachi’s, making a face like she’d taken a big bite of raw lemon, rind and all. Iruka grinned. He’d show her. He and Itachi would make a great team.
~~*~~
“Hey! Itachi!” Iruka called, chasing him down after class let out. “Hey,” he puffed, slowing to a walk, moving more sedately than usual to account for Itachi’s shorter legs. “When do you want to start on that project?”
Itachi blinked, turning to look up at Iruka. “What do you mean?”
Iruka frowned. “The group project. The homework assignment. The one Aki-sensei assigned today?”
A hint of red dusted Itachi’s cheeks, and his eyes dropped away from Iruka’s to gaze ahead. “Oh. I’m sorry. I wasn’t planning on working with you at all.”
Iruka felt his chest clench sharply at the words, and he froze in place, his feet seeming rooted to the ground. “What?”
Itachi stopped too, turning to look at Iruka with a vaguely baffled expression. “You never do your homework,” he explained slowly, “and I’m perfectly capable of finishing the project on my own. You don’t need to do anything.”
Iruka felt his face growing hot. “Just because I don’t turn in my homework doesn’t mean I can’t do it!” he protested. “This is a group project! I can help!”
Turning, Itachi continued walking. “I have no way of knowing that based on your current record.” He waved a hand dismissively as he continued, “It’s fine, Iruka. I’ll take care of the project, and we’ll both get a good grade for once.”
Iruka gaped at his receding figure, unable to find words amidst the maelstrom of emotions clutching him. All he could do was stand there and watch as Itachi walked off, probably heading home to his mom and his dad and his brother and all of the other things that Iruka didn’t have that Itachi probably took for granted. He didn’t need Itachi’s help to get a good grade for once, he just needed time. Furious, Iruka spun on his heel, stomping toward the orphanage with so much force that his feet were hurting by the time he arrived.
He got there in time for dinner after all, only to find that he wasn’t hungry.
~~*~~
The next morning dawned bright and early, and Iruka was peeved. It was the weekend, and usually he used his free time to dream up a prank or two for the following week, gather supplies, and run a few preliminary tests to make sure everything worked out the way he expected. Instead, as he lay on his lumpy futon in a room too full of kids that nobody wanted, he grappled with the fact that he wanted to do his homework.
He wanted to do it. He wanted to prove to Itachi that he could do it, that just because he didn’t usually do his homework didn’t mean he couldn’t. He had a copy of the instructions, how hard could it be to just do it?
Several hours later, one bout of frustrated tears, an ink-filled water balloon and some angry shouting later, Iruka realized that homework was a lot harder to finish than he’d anticipated. It wasn’t his fault that he didn’t have any reference materials! He’d lost library permission for probably the rest of his life after using one of the library books in a prank that had gone vastly underappreciated, so he couldn’t look up any of the information he needed. And he didn’t have the money for notebooks, he always borrowed paper from Aki-sensei when they needed an extra sheet of paper, so he didn’t have any notes from class to look over, either. Even his prank supplies came by way of his sticky fingers, and he had a feeling that if he tried to steal reference books from the bookstore they might not like that, so much.
So, he’d cried a little, filled a water balloon with ink, snuck out, and dropped the ink bomb onto an unsuspecting passer-by on their way into Hokage Tower. Of course, the ANBU on duty weren’t entirely pleased, though one of them did tell the Chunin who’d been entering that he needed to be more aware of his surroundings, if someone like Iruka could surprise him like that. Iruka took a bit of offense at that - he was pretty good at hiding and catching people off guard, the ANBU were just even better at noticing things.
After the angry Chunin had marched off to wash the ink from his hair and the ANBU on Iruka’s left had finally let him stand up instead of holding him folded over at a 90-degree angle to ensure his apology appeared more or less sincere, Iruka turned to leave. He didn’t feel any better, and his homework still wasn’t even close to finished. He dug into his pocket, pulling out the assignment and glaring balefully at it. Maybe he could hide in the back of one of the bigger bookstores and try to read a few books before they kicked him out?
“Hey kid,” said one of the ANBU who had made him apologize to the ink-covered Chunin, “What’cha got there?” The other ANBU elbowed them in the side and hissed something, but it was too low for Iruka to hear.
“...homework,” Iruka answered the first ANBU, ignoring the second. “But I can’t go to the library, and I don’t have any books or paper at the orphanage.”
“What about your textbook?” the ANBU asked, cocking their head to the side in a manner that implied genuine curiosity.
“When I’m in class I just borrow one of the classroom books, but after I… uh…” Iruka shuffled his feet awkwardly. “Anyway, I’m not allowed to take the textbook out of the classrooms anymore.”
The second ANBU snorted at this, and the first ANBU turned to look at them with what Iruka imagined was a withering stare, although the mask did somewhat disrupt the effect. After a moment, the first ANBU turned back to Iruka. “Lemme see what you’ve got to work on,” said the ANBU, extending a hand. They unrolled the assignment, straightening up a little as they read. “Oh, well, you’re in luck, kiddo. This is a group project, so you can probably just share materials with your partner.”
Iruka wanted to sink into the ground. He swallowed hard, willing himself to lift his eyes to meet the dark space behind the bright white ANBU mask. “My partner doesn’t want to work with me,” he said, his face heating as he explained. “He said that, since I never turn in my homework, he’ll just do it all himself. But I don’t want him to do all the work! I can do it! I just wish he’d given me a chance…” Iruka said, trailing off. He swallowed hard, feeling a prickling at his eyes. Oh no, no, he was not going to cry in front of these ANBU.
“Hmm,” said the ANBU, considering the scroll. “I bet if you asked Sandaime-sama, he might let you use some of his reference books.”
Now it was the second ANBU’s turn to stare pointedly at the first. The first ANBU did not seem affected whatsoever by this reaction.
Iruka blinked, considering the suggestion. Usually, he only visited the third Hokage when he was invited over for tea, about once a month. He’d never considered asking for anything else, or stopping by when it wasn’t their monthly tea time. “You think he would let me do my homework up there?” Iruka asked, pointing to Hokage Tower.
The ANBU nodded slowly. “What do you say we head on up together and find out?”
“This is ridiculous,” the second ANBU protested, “I’m sure the Hokage is-”
“Deeply invested in the education of our new generation of shinobi, yes, I agree,” the first ANBU interrupted sharply. “It can’t hurt to ask.”
The second ANBU sighed, and returned to their post at the door. “Fine. You go on up. But for the record? I think this is-”
“Thank you for your opinion,” the first ANBU interrupted again, one hand on Iruka’s shoulder as he guided him through the door. “I’ll be back out shortly.”
The second ANBU huffed, but said nothing more.
Iruka and the ANBU walked in silence for a few moments before Iruka felt compelled to say, “You didn’t have to interrupt ANBU-san back there. I know nobody wants me around.” He forced a grin even as his stomach twisted uncomfortably. He glanced up at the ANBU, whose grip on his shoulder had tightened incrementally at the words. “I’m a nuisance. Everybody says it, it’s no secret.”
“You’re a kid,” the ANBU replied, their grip loosening slightly as they continued walking, “All kids are nuisances at one time or another. Nothing to worry about.”
Iruka had a feeling most people would disagree with that assessment, but he liked the thought that maybe it was okay to be a nuisance, at least sometimes. He’d never felt that way before, or at least, no one had ever bothered to say as much to him. “Do you really think the Hokage will let me use his books to finish my homework?”
“I don’t know,” the ANBU said honestly, “but it’s worth asking.”
Iruka nodded, and the two of them continued down the corridor in comfortable silence.
~~*~~
As it turned out, the Hokage was not only willing to let Iruka use his books, he also told him that if he ever needed reference materials, he should go to the Sarutobi residence and request access to the clan library.
“You’re welcome to use those resources any time you need them,” the Hokage told him seriously, “...so long as you don’t draw funny moustaches on all of the pictures in the scrolls,” he added with a twinkle of amusement in his eyes.
Iruka agreed, face heating as he realized the Hokage had heard about how Iruka had ended up with a probably-lifetime ban from the community library. After the two of them looked over Iruka’s assignment together, the Hokage sent him off to the Sarutobi residence with a list of four or five references to find and bring back. “We’ll work together,” he said. “I’ll do my paperwork, and you can do your homework. When we’re done, we can have lunch together.”
Accustomed to a five-finger-discount lunch on the typical weekend, Iruka brightened considerably at the idea of a hot meal. “Great! Thanks!”
“If you wouldn’t mind accompanying Iruka to the Sarutobi compound, ANBU-san?” the Hokage asked, turning to raise an eyebrow in the direction of the ANBU that had brought Iruka up to his office.
The ANBU bowed. “Yes sir.”
Iruka grinned as he followed the ANBU back down the stairs and across the village towards the Sarutobi compound, clenching his fist tight around the assignment. He’d show Itachi! He’d walk into the Academy on Monday with the best homework assignment of the whole class!
~~*~~
When Monday rolled around, Iruka strolled into the classroom like he owned it. Grinning wide, he walked right up to Aki-sensei’s desk and set his assignment beside the small pile of assignments that several other students had dropped off on their way into class.
Aki-sensei glanced down, her nose wrinkling slightly as she looked at Iruka’s submission. “What is this?” she asked, lifting her eyes to stare at Iruka with suspicion.
“My homework,” Iruka replied belligerently.
“But Itachi already submitted your homework,” Aki-sensei said, glancing at the dark-haired, dark-eyed boy who was in his usual front row seat, staring at them like Iruka had grown a second head overnight.
“He submitted his version,” Iruka clarified with a grin, feeling almost excited. “This is my version.”
Now Aki-sensei looked downright worried as she picked up his assignment using only the very tips of her fingers. “Is that so?” she sneered. “So if I open this, it will contain your research project, and not, say, a stink bomb?”
Iruka scowled. “No, there’s no stink bomb.”
“Some kind of dead animal?” Aki-sensei prodded.
How uncreative! As if Iruka would do something so obvious. “Of course not,” he scoffed, insulted by the very idea.
“Of course not,” Aki-sensei repeated, her eyes narrowed. She didn’t seem particularly convinced. “What did you do to this?” she finally demanded. “Where’s the punchline?”
“There is no punchline,” Iruka said, the sick feeling crawling back into his stomach as more and more students were walking into class, dropping their assignments on the desk, and heading to their seats. What was the big deal with his homework? Why did she have such a problem with it?
“Right,” Aki-sensei scoffed. “Well, I suppose, if there’s no prank, then you won’t mind if I do this,” she said, crushing the paper between her palms before throwing it into the wastepaper bin.
“No!” Iruka cried, taking an involuntary step forward.
“Iruka,” Aki-sensei said sharply, “This was a group project. I will only accept one submission for the assignment. Did you really think I would take yours over Itachi’s?”
Iruka felt like he’d been hollowed out from the inside as he shook his head weakly. Of course not. Nothing he did would ever measure up to Itachi. Why had he even tried?
“Take your seat, Iruka,” Aki-sensei said sharply, “You’re holding up the class.”
Numbly, Iruka shuffled to the back of the classroom, sinking into his chair and staring ahead without really seeing anything. He didn’t fall asleep, but by the time classes were finished for the day he still hadn’t managed to focus long enough to recall a single thing from Aki-sensei’s lecture.
He moved like he was in a fog, slipping his worn school bag over his shoulder and shuffling out the door, barely able to remember to keep putting one foot in front of the other. What was the point? Why should he try at all, if it wasn’t even going to make a difference in the end?
He kept trudging his way across town, and was nearly back to the orphanage when he heard someone calling his name.
“Iruka! Iruka!”
He turned, expecting maybe Mizuki, or Anko, or one of the other orphans who stayed in the orphanage and just wanted some company as they headed in together. Instead, he saw Itachi jogging towards him, holding a crumpled piece of paper. Iruka’s heart sank. Perfect. The last person he wanted to see after today. Why was he here? What was he doing with an old paper, and why was he chasing after Iruka, waving it around like a flag?
“What do you want?” Iruka demanded, hating that he was losing to a kid half his age, half his size, and twice as good as him at literally everything.
“I wanted to apologize,” Itachi answered, not even a little winded from his run. Showoff.
“Apologize for what?” Iruka asked, frowning a little. For being so perfect at everything?
“I underestimated you, Umino Iruka,” Itachi said, his little face drawn into a look so serious that it just ended up looking cute. For a moment, Iruka almost forgot how much he couldn’t stand the kid.
“...how so?” Iruka finally asked, sticking his hands into his pockets and staring down at this nuisance of a kid. Well. Nuisance to Iruka, anyway. He wasn’t surprised that he’d been underestimated, that was pretty much his entire life story at this point.
“This is really good work,” Itachi explained, still with that adorable serious look on his face. He extended the crumpled paper in Iruka’s direction, at which point Iruka finally realized that it wasn’t any old crumpled paper.
It was Iruka’s homework paper. The one he’d slaved over for hours. The one he’d spent almost the entire weekend in the Hokage’s office working on. The homework that Aki-sensei had crumpled up and thrown out without even bothering to look at it. “Give me that!” he snapped, his fingers closing around the paper, tugging it out of Itachi’s grasp.
The kid let it go without a fuss. “It’s really excellent work,” he said. “If you submitted work like that every day, you could probably be near the top of the class.”
“If I had time to submit work like that, maybe,” Iruka snapped back. “Some of us don’t have that luxury.” he jerked his head in the direction of the orphanage. “I have to go feed some kids and clean the bathrooms now, so…”
Itachi tilted his head, a confused look crossing his features. “You feed kids? Are they your siblings?”
Iruka laughed at that. “Nah, but they don’t have anyone else to feed them,” he answered, thinking of little Nanako with the big brown eyes and frizzy black hair who hated vegetables, of Haru, who should be able to eat on his own now but still made a huge mess when he did, and even … Naruto … the living embodiment of his parents’ killer. It was awkward, sometimes, being that close to the vessel of a monster, but he was still a kid. It was weird, but Iruka didn’t mind it, not the way some people did.
“Oh,” Itachi looked surprised. “I feed my brother, sometimes. When mom and dad aren’t home.”
Iruka considered Itachi. “Sasuke, right? Your little brother?”
An actual smile bloomed across Itachi’s face at that. “Yeah,” he said. “Sasuke.”
“Cool,” Iruka said awkwardly, crumpling the homework assignment back into a ball and shoving it into his pocket. “Well, I’m going to go… feed. Kids.”
“Okay,” Itachi said, nodding. “Oh, and Iruka?” he added, just before Iruka turned to walk away.
“Yeah?” Iruka asked, feeling his shoulders stiffen almost involuntarily. “What?”
“Next time we have a group project…” Itachi’s gaze wandered, resting on the orphanage, the trees, the sky, anything but Iruka, “Maybe we could work together?”
Iruka felt something inside him melt at that, the tension he’d been carrying all day finally loosening as he felt a small smile tug at the corners of his mouth. “Sure,” he said cautiously. “Thanks.”
Itachi nodded once to acknowledge he’d heard before turning around and gliding away, most likely heading for the Uchiha compound.
Iruka watched him go, not quite sure how to feel. Relieved that Itachi had acknowledged his effort? Frustrated that he hadn’t trusted him to do the work in the first place? Annoyed that Itachi was the one who got to decide whether or not they’d work together on a group project in the future? With a sigh, he decided it wasn’t worth worrying about. He had bathrooms to clean and toddlers to feed. Whatever else was going on in his life, he could worry about it later.
As he turned to face the orphanage, he frowned, considering the new homework Aki-Sensei had assigned today, crumpled up in his school bag. Maybe, after dinner, after his chores, he would head over to the Sarutobi library for an hour or two and see if he could at least get some of it finished by nightfall. Sure, it might be lights-out by the time he got back to the orphanage, but Iruka had gotten pretty good at sneaking past wards, and he was pretty sure he’d have no problem sneaking back into the orphanage after lights-out.
That decided, Iruka grinned and marched up the front steps of the orphanage. This time, it wasn’t a group project, so Aki-sensei would have to accept his assignment. He couldn’t wait to see the look on her face when he handed it in.

ROUND TWO
UMINO IRUKA vs SAI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reasons for submission under the cut
Iruka
he is kind-hearted and soft and has a big heart
he always has a watchful eyes over his students.
Sai
cute and funny
honestly just underrated imo
has an interesting character arc around learning how to understand and express emotions again after a childhood of being trained out of it
is definitely autistic and it makes me happy bc I am too <3
being able to bring the animals he draws to life is a cool ability
he did so much for men in crop tops culture
sweet boy
is a fool who does not know when to shut the fuck up

okay hope you are doing well and not going to crazy about your college trouble, honestly that whole situation is beyond effed up and i feel so bad for you :( anyway wanted to let you know i finished watching shippuden 2 weeks ago (was v emotional lol) and started boruto and it’s like okay honestly better than what i thought but it sucks to see nart and sasuke being such crappy fathers lol. any time there is a shred of kakashi i loose my shit. love that man. love that he hates boruto. would still do anything for him, and two him ;) -🥑
aaa im holdin up okay bb, it IS messed up but well yknow.. i had to make my peace w it >:(
oh you finished Shippuden!!! honestly i had to struggle a lot to get through a few of the last eps, i really did not like the introduction of that whole new arc w sasuke and then shikamaru w all these new characters at the end it was kinda annoying but lol naruto's wedding eps where everyone was fishing for gifts was kinda cute. It was the only small bit we got to see of hokage kakashi but i absolutely loved seeing him as hokage.i just felt like such a proud mama seeing him make it to where he did even w everything he had to endure along the way. He was exhausted the whole time poor bby but it was just so nice to hear him being called the rokudaime and vvvvv sexy and some of his interactions w iruka were just sgshagwj. so cute. And like the last ep where they both just stand there watching and talking like naruto's dads had me lowkey wailing. And OFC. The scene where Naruto asks iruka to fill in the role of his father. Ugh absolute pure beautiful precious unprecedented mwah moment. If there's one thing i learnt from the last eps it was that i fucking love iruka.
ANYWAY sgsgsj i god carried away lmao oh you watching boruto too, im glad it's not that bad damn most people despise it. Yeah Naruto and sasuke seem so discontent w life it's honestly fkn sad lol, also it's just really unsatisfying to watch our sunshine baby boy Naruto grow up to become an overworked boring bald man. the light's just gone from his eyes man it makes me sad like i want my little number one hyperactive knucklehead ninja back :( i can't help feeling like they'd both have been so much more happier if they hadn't gotten married or had kids at all lmao like i think Naruto got married at like 19 or smth??? And the rest of em followed after ig. And Naruto also def would've had more hair if he wasn't the fkn hokage but that's a whole other convo so ANYWAY. I've honestly watched only like a few eps of boruto w kakashi in it, the whole kakashi and gai travelling ones and yeah man, he's still fkn got it. He REALLY has no business looking that hot as an old man but he does and I'd still lay my body down on a cold hard floor as a carpet for him to step on and then trip him as he does so he falls on top of me and then we kiss and do things

here's a list of my fave naruto (not shippuden) characters so far (I've been spoilered for shippuden so my limited knowledge of them in shippuden influences this) in no particular order:
• KAKASHI (this man... do I need to say more?)
• NEJI (don't ask me why, he actually annoys me most of the time but I love him a lot)
• GAARA (one of those characters you like before you actually watch the show if yall know what I mean. I was so excited when he was introduced and was disappointed bc let's be real he is a terrifying dick at the beginning but after our precious bby naruto... an angel, protect at ALL costs)
• NARUTO (bc how could one not love this precious bean)
• ITACHI (basically spoilered myself his whole history bc I already knew fractions and I just couldn't wait 600 episodes)
• HAKU (I am still crying... but I'm okay... actually no, I'm not)
• SHIKAMARU (I have nothing to say about him, he's a great friend, a great ninja and just a fucking mood I currently find myself in constantly. I love him)
those are my top faves, now onto some others I also love a lot:
• KURENAI (the only female character I REALLY came to like bc sakura and ino are annoying and tenten... well... tenten)

• KIBA (he is a dick to naruto in the beginning but it gets better and who wouldn't want to... imma stop myself right there)
• CHOJI (he deserves happiness at all costs)
• IRUKA (he is such an important person to naruto and I feel like he doesn't have enough screen time and seems kinda underrated to me?)
• imma just count him in here as well bc the first time I saw a picture of him I was dazzled. I'm talking about MINATO (goood just look at him... so pretty... so powerful... so devoted... so... uuuggghhh I cannot wait)
• also gonna count in SAI which I haven't seen yet but I have the same feeling with him as I had with gaara

A few words on other characters...
• HINATA is cute and all and I actually enjoyed watching the filler episodes bc of her and narutos interactions but she's just... too much but I hope imma like her better in shippuden
• SHINO... just gives me the creeps... sorry...
• SAKURA is SO ANNOYING MOST OF THE TIME IT GETS BETTER WHEN SHE HAS TO FIGHT DURING THE CHUNIN EXAMS IN THE WOODS BUT OH GAWD I did find her to be useless like the memes say. and when sasuke leaves konoha... I never cringed so hard during my almost 21 years on this planet and I fucking MEAN it... that was... hard to watch... couldn't take it, ugh
• INO same as sakura, probably didn't like them because of their crush on sasuke and their fight they had over him. gets a little better towards the end but am not a fan of her yet. very pretty and very pretty flower shop tho, I approve
• hated KANKURO at first bc obviously, TEMARI is cool and all, better than sakura and ino tbh, also instant ship with shikamaru, they're perfect together
• MIGHT GUY... one word: obnoxious, he's cool, comical relief, wouldn't want to miss him in the story
• ASUMA is great too, him and kurenai? lovely, perfection, the couple we all wanna see

the characters I absolutely HATE:
• SASUKE

I COULD WRITE A WHOLE BOOK
NO
A WHOLE TRILOGY WITH SEVERAL SEQUELS
ABOUT WHY I HATE SASUKE WITH A BURNING PASSION
but I won't now
ahem

• KABUTO
SO FUCKING ANNOYING I HATE HIM HE IS A DICK I WISH HE WOULD SHUT UP HE CAN DIE IDC I NEVER WANT TO SEE HIM AGAIN
his glasses are cute tho
as for the other characters I didn't mention like idk shizune... they're cool

Fic recs!!
Hi everyone!
So for awhile I’ve been looking around for good fics of my fave pairings and after some serious searching I found and compiled a list of my own personal favorite fics. I don’t have all the pairings I love but I put the ones that have been on my mind lately and will likely add more later! I hope you enjoy, please let me know what you think!
Bakugou x Kirishima: Completed Fics
slow it down (go easy on me) – newamsterdam
· Alright I’m like slightly biased because I love ALL of their work. I’m not kidding, they haven’t written anything that I haven’t probably sobbed over. I love their work so much it makes me feel SO MUCH.
· Anyways it’s basically a future/ time travel fic done REALLY well like it has one of the softest lines in all of history in it I think and one of my favorite quotes ever which I’ll put in the tags so there are no spoilers.
but i’ve got an angry heart – newamsterdam
· basically an angry boi falling in love with a happy go lucky boy but in an AU with really deep topics that make you think, I really loved this story because I’ve been on both sides of struggling with anger problems and struggling to deal with someone with anger problems. I think it’s done very well.
 2 AM Knows All Secrets – Unbreakable_Red_Riot
· Pretty much super cute story about Bakugou having nightmares and Kirishima being the Best Bro TM. I like how the character are portrayed and how the relationship develops so naturally.
The Lost Continent – cattchi, paglykos
· Alright yall, this one made me cry because it’s just really, really good. Like a PIRATE AU. Fantastic.  Like the world building is amazing, the story itself is spectacular, but what got me is the relationship that develops so naturally and sweetly between these two. Like I had no idea what to baby at the ending. Not because it’s sad but because it’s so good.
 good to you – Authoress
· this is another author that I LOVE. I always enjoy reading their work.
· I really like this story because it was actually one of the first Kiribaku stories I read, and it was so wholesome I smiled the whole time. Basically it takes place right after the Bakugou Rescue
·  https://archiveofourown.org/works/6904558
yes, you say you’d like to – Authoress
· another amazing work that had me smiling the whole way. It’s just a fun “omg I like them and I know they like me so wtf” story
· https://archiveofourown.org/works/10660773
parted, and never parted – Authoress
· this is probably my FAVORITE fic by them. I love the fantasy/god/goddess au so much and it’s done so beautifully. Honesty, I cry every time I read it. If you like fantasy and true love, this is your story.
Tonight, We’re the Sea – idratherhaveyou
·  A quaint Oceanside love story AU? Sign me up. I always love fics that explore a more mature side to Kirishima and Bakugou while putting a twist on their conventional stories. Like we know kirishima has a heart of gold but does his own family know that? We know that Bakugou feels robbed but this is such an interesting take. Plus!! Artist!Bakugo AU.
Things soft and precious – gloop
· I like this story a lot because it’s from Mitsuki’s perspective and I think it’s just really really sweet.
  Todoroki x Midoriya: Completed Fics
*Note: for personal reasons, I don’t read a whole lot of Todoroki x Midoriya even though I LOVE them. I love artwork and fics of them but I can’t read them a whole lot, but I figured I would give the one fic I’ve read and Loved a shout out.
 Burn and Breathe – PitViperofDoom
· Soulmate/Soulmark AU. Listen. I love soulmate au’s, I’m trash for them, but this is on a whole other level. I love this story because I love how the story is told and how the soulmate/mark is done so well. I also have to say this is easily my favorite characterization of Midoriya. I think it’s the most true to his character and still do.
  Sasuke x Naruto: Completed Fics
 Flesh and Bone – dawnstruck
· Ouch, talk about pain but an amazing story. I didn’t know what to expect whenever I first read this fic but I was actually pleasantly surprised. The arranged marriage AU is hard to fit into the pairing, but it’s done really, really well and I think it’s actually really sweet.
Baby Animals, Weddings, and Other Things Not Normally Associated with Uchiha Sasuke – prettypriestess
· This is probably my favorite sasunaru fic ever. It’s so happy and cute and I feel like the characters are actually truly in character. It always makes me feel good which is really rare for a SNS fic I feel like (or maybe I just struggle with finding good ones?)
 Kakashi x Iruka: Completed Fics
In Bond and Blood – thehoyden
· Dads, marriage because they have to? Or marriage because they secretly super-secret want to? I love this story. It’s a very feel good, wholesome fic.
How to File Form 39-B – thehoyden
· CUTE. So cute. I love silly Iruka
· https://archiveofourown.org/works/46222
 Possibility – megyal
· Fake dating trope? I’m in. I love when my boys accidentally fall in love.
 Touchstone- paxnirvana
· This is probably one of my favorite Kakairu stories, both of my boys are portrayed and written so well, I loved every moment of it and the concept behind it too like it’s very original and well thought out.
·      https://archiveofourown.org/works/123110
 Fireflies – KobutoriRisu
· Now THIS, this is my all-time favorite Kakairu story. I’m a sucker for stories where people fall in love young but this story spins it in a different way I wasn’t expecting and was so happily surprised by. I treasure this story because after reading a few bad sasunaru fics and kakairu fics I was really disappointed and doubted I would find any good stories every again (everything that’s been listed here is exempt from this of course) but then I stumbled across this beauty and idk it just really made me emotional. I highly recommend it.

Naruto Characters in Hogwarts House (Part 2)
Kushina: Gryffindor
HarryPotter Wiki:  “Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry.”
Kushiha (To Kyuubi):  “Neither of us has any luck, do we? You keep the world at bay...but I keep you at bay.”
Kushina (To Minato): “He's our son. Which is exactly why, I don't want him to bear such a heavy burden! Why?..Why the Reaper Death Seal?! There's no need for you to die...just so I can meet the grown-up Naruto in a short amount of time...! I rather for you to have stayed with Naruto and watched him grow up! So why does Naruto have to be sacrificed...for the Biju balance, for the country, and for the village...?! Why do you have to sacrifice yourself for my sake?”
Tumblr media
Minato: Slytherin
HarryPotter Wiki: “Slytherin house values ambition, cunning and resourcefulness.”
Minato (To Kyuubi): “Saying your going to rip me to shreds isn't going to make me come closer to you.”
Minato (To Naruto): “To be a ninja is to confront hatred.”
Minato (To Naruto): “Trying to save the things we love breeds war. As long as love exists, there will be hatred, and ninjas will be continue being used by that hatred. As long as the ninja system exists, the hatred will create another creature like Pain.”
Tumblr media
Jiraiya: Gryffindor
Note: Holy Man, could this guy be more Gryffindor??
HarryPotter Wiki:  “Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry.”
Jiraiya: “The true measure of a shinobi is not how he lives but how he dies. It's not what they do in life, but what they did before dying that proves their worth...”
Jiraiya: “The most important thing of a shinobi to have is the spirit and the guts to never give up.”
Jiraiya: “ I believe that someday the day will come when people truly understand one another!”
Tumblr media
Tsunade: Gryffindor
HarryPotter Wiki:  “Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry.”
Tsunade: “There are times when death is hard to accept. But if you don't get over it, there's no future. “
Tsunade: “If Naruto and the fate of Konoha fall because of me... I'll take full responsibility!”
Tsunade: “I won! And it's the grand prize, to boot! This is the worst possible omen.”
Tumblr media
Kakashi: Slytherin
HarryPotter Wiki: “Slytherin house values ambition, cunning and resourcefulness.”
Kakashi: “You can cry later, Choji. If you can still move...tell Tsunade...about Pain's powers. You have to figure out a way to fight him. Save your surprise for later. You have to tell her about Pain. Run! Don't let Choza's sacrifice have been for nothing!”
Kakashi: “Look. It takes a lot to get me worked up, but this time my boiling point is as low as it's ever been. The Copy Ninja Kakashi, the man who copied one thousand techniques, is about to go on a rampage!”
Kakashi: “What do you mean... I'm not of any use any more as far as he's concerned.”
Tumblr media
Iruka: Hufflepuff
Note: Yeah, I changed one of Iruka’s quotes to say ‘son’ instead of ‘little brother,’ but come on. Dad Iruka, we all know its true.
HarryPotter Wiki: “Hufflepuff values hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play.”
Iruka (To Naruto): "Stop acting like a baby! You want to know what I really think of you?! I think you're one of my most precious students… and… you're like a son to me.”
Iruka (To Naruto): "When one person dies… he disappears… Along with his past, current lifestyle, and his future. Many people die in missions and wars. They die easily and in surprisingly simple ways. Hatake was one of them. Those who die have goals and dreams. But everyone has something as important as those. Parents, siblings, friends, lovers… People who are important to you. They trust and help each other. The bond between the people important to you ever since birth… And the string that binds them becomes thicker and stronger as time goes by. It's beyond reason. Those bound to you by that string will do that. Because it's important…”

SNS Month -- Secret Santa Event
Secret Santa for @gaby-irr
Merry Christmas!!
"Never Forgotten"
A deep sigh left the blonde as he shut his front door behind him and leaned against it tiredly. The day had been long and eventful, as Naruto had spent the majority of it jogging through the snowy winterland of Konoha, making sure to greet everyone he passed by on his way to each of his friends' houses. He visited them all and spent as much time as he could, hoping to bring a bit of happiness and warmth to their Christmases. He would leave them with a joyful smile and a friendly wave before skipping off to the next person. All in all, it had been a successful day.
But the always-smiling, always supportive Naruto was now exhausted. He'd spent every ounce of positive energy he had on others--something which he did not regret, but what he was left with at the end of it all was a deep fatigue, and a weight lying heavy upon his chest. It was a feeling he knew all too well...Loneliness.
Though he'd spent his entire day around others and it had overall been a positive experience, he was still incredibly lonely. Even Sakura, who'd been the last person Naruto had visited--he'd done this on purpose in order to spend extra time with her--noticed and felt it. She was lonely, too. This Christmas had indeed been beautiful and cheery. They had gotten lots of snow, which all throughout the day had gently drifted down from the clouds and coated the many trees and buildings which littered the vast expanse of the ever-growing Leaf Village. Friends and family alike had all come together once more to celebrate and spend time together. But alas, someone was still missing. Someone very special to Sakura, and even more special to Naruto himself.
Sasuke.
He was away on a long journey of self-discovery after being set free from the Konoha prison and pardoned of his crimes. A trip for an honorable cause, Naruto could not deny. But regardless, all day--nearly every second that he wasn't speaking or being spoken to--Sasuke Uchiha had been the only one on his mind. The soft, sad question repeated constantly: 'Perhaps, will I see him today?' He chanted it to himself like a mantra as his strong legs carried him on his way, his arms spread out behind him like wings. He'd buried his sad feelings deep inside, afraid of spreading them to his friends. He couldn't do that--not on such a special day as this. He would keep the day sacred and pure for the sake of his dear friends.
So as soon as he was home, in the safe confinement of those four walls, his shoulders drooped low and his eyes closed. His heart followed suit as it sank to the floor, reality surrounding him like a chilling aura. No, he would not be seeing Sasuke today. He'd held out hope all day, but it was late into the evening now. There was very little chance of him showing up at this point.
And so it was with a heavy heart that Naruto removed his shoes and his scarf, discarding each article on the floor in an exasperated manner. Alone at last, all pretenses had been dropped. He was not happy, and he no longer needed to pretend he was. He shuffled into the main room, towards the bed he'd tucked away in the corner. As he reached it, he promptly flung himself upon it. He buried his face into his pillow and finally allowed the tears which had been held in all day to spill over and fall free onto the fabric. A tiny sob bubbled up from him, his shoulders trembling in its wake. Another, and soon he was bawling like a baby, clutching the sheets with fervor as his broken, disappointed heart collapsed within his chest. All he'd wanted; all he'd wished for this Christmas was to see Sasuke again, even if only for a moment. He missed him terribly, and as thoughts of holding him tightly in his arms beside a warm fire filled his mind, another tremor of sadness ran though him, his weeping only increasing.
"Teme...," he coughed in between violent sobs, ignoring the streams of tears and thick snot running down his cheeks and lips. He lifted himself up for a moment to catch his breath, though he did not cease in his crying. "Damnit."
He'd almost been too engulfed in his sorrows to notice the light tapping that sounded against his window. But despite being otherwise occupied, the sudden noise jolted the blonde back into reality, even going as far as eliciting the smallest squeak of surprise. His eyes wide, he flung his head up at the window and gaped apprehensively at it. He noticed nothing at first, and narrowed his eyes at the pane in disbelief. He couldn't have just imagined it--it had startled him, after all. He focused on the cold, condensation-coated glass a moment longer and waited for the noise again.
Tap, tap, tap.
Naruto's torso shot up this time, and he leaned in close to stare right out the window for the source of the tapping. Perched on the outer sill was a brown hawk, oggling the blonde from outside with his wary, golden eyes. Naruto recognized it almost immediately and his heart leaped out of his chest with joy. He grappled for the window and thrust it open, waiting for the bird to hop onto the inner sill. As it did, he reached for its leg, which he'd noticed had something attached to it, and removed said object with shaky, fumbling fingers. The bird clicked his beak at him in warning, but Naruto paid him no mind as he hastily took the folded paper from him and began to unfurl it. Having served his purpose, the bird took to flight and left through the window to return to his master.
Naruto, alone again, stared at the fully-opened page in his hand. His heart was pounding as his eyes screened each character with desperate longing. He would not be disappointed.
'Don't cry like that. It makes you look ugly. Look, I'm sorry I couldn't make it today. I know it sucks, but I can't travel that fast, Dobe. I'm somewhere far away, and I need to stay there for now.
But don't worry, I haven't forgotten you. How could I? Even when I'm long gone, you're always on my mind. It's kind of annoying, to be honest.
Anyways, I brought you a present. It's nothing special, but I hope you like it anyways. Stay safe and be good--don't do anything stupid. Seriously.
I'm watching you, Usuratonkachi.
--Sasuke'
Now it was happy tears that fell from the boy's crystal blue eyes as he read and re-read Sasuke's words. He could practically hear him speaking them as if he were in the room. Even the insults felt so familiar and sweet to him...anything Sasuke said would be treasured in Naruto's heart for eternity. He was filled with relief and joy as he slowly realized that he hadn't been forgotten, and that even though he didn't get to see Sasuke with his own eyes, he'd at the very least been given a sign from him that he was still thinking of him.
It still felt raw, but his sadness had for the most part subsided as he finally glanced down at the sealing formula which had been placed below Sasuke's words. "Oh," he said to himself, and placed the sheet of paper down on the bed. Holding his fingers up in the sign for Tiger, he then pressed his hand down upon the seal and muttered, "Release!"
In a flash and a puff of smoke, a hard object appeared under Naruto's hand, lifting it up some as it took up the space beneath it. The blonde peered down at it curiously, lifting his hand away to reveal what it was. It appeared to be a book--the cover was black with yellow text and a strangely drawn man with spiky hair and glasses. The words read, 'Genin-Level Justu For Dummies.'
The blonde boy's eyes flashed with a burning anger at the blatant insult as he let out a shriek of disbelief. "Ehh?!" He ran over the title again, staring at it furiously as his blood slowly heated to a boil.
"You...bastard," he seethed, flinging the cover open; refusing to look at it a second longer. "Sure, I'm still a Genin and all, but I'm studying to become a Jounin! And besides, I know the basic jutsu already, you little--"
'Naruto--
Caught you with the title, didn't I? You know, this book would have been pretty useful to you not too long ago. But now you've studied and learned a thing or two, so good job.'
Naruto let out a growl as he read the writing on the inside of the front cover, his anger slightly quelled for the moment.
'But this is something different. Something...sort of special. Eh, who am I kidding. It's just a collection of memories from my journey so far. All the places I've been and things I've seen. I don't know...maybe if you read it...it'll be like you were there with me the whole time...?
Whatever. It's stupid.
Merry Christmas.'
A broad smile had replaced the earlier gaze of fury. The gift Naruto held in his hands was something compiled and sent by Sasuke himself...something just for him. A glimpse into the life he was leading away from the other. Having only been in Naruto's possession for a total of three and a half minutes, it was already the most precious item he had...second only to Iruka Sensei's headband. It was perfect. At last, Naruto could answer many of the burning questions within him about Sasuke's whereabouts. What he was doing. The things that filled him constantly and only left him heavy and sad--and as always, lonely. Now, he could recount everything Sasuke had done so far, and catch up to him. It was everything he'd ever wanted. Well...almost everything.
"Sasuke," Naruto sighed softly as he turned over the first page, his head slowly shaking side to side. "Thank you." Before he began to read, he closed his eyes and sent his best wishes to him...his closest friend; the love of his life. "Please be safe," he whispered out loud as his heart began to swell with emotion. "Merry Christmas, Sasuke."
Then, he took a breath and opened his blue eyes once more, settling them upon the page and reading each word with care. He would hold every single one in his heart forever.
