Billy’s little “No…?” after Neil berates him with “You’re afraid you’re gonna get hurt, is that it?” …like, he was terrified but if he said “yes,” he was even more afraid of what would happen next. Billy has never been allowed to show any kind of weakness even though it’s normal for kids to be afraid of things. He spent his life scared of everything, but having to pretend that he wasn’t. Someone should have told him a long time ago that it was okay. I am wrapping baby billy in a blanket and telling him it’s okay.
I had legitimately zero interest in watching the new Fallout series until I came across a gifset and was like, "wait wait wait hold up...is that...Walton Goggins? Uncle Baby Billy himself? *checks wikipedia* Okay, I might actually have to watch this show now
The Righteous Gemstones, Ep. 3x04 – I Have Not Come to Bring Peace, But a Sword
This episode kind of lost me a bit. Part of it is because I feel like some things don’t make sense, maybe, and the other is because some of it’s been done before.
May-May and the cousins are invited to sit with the family at church. Later, they go with the family to dinner. Peter shows up and acts like he's apologizing to his boys. Eli tells Peter to leave, and Peter challenges him. Peter really should have considered that half the family would probably be armed. Anyway, he leaves. And, at this point, everyone pretty much has their own story.
Judy is getting messages from Stephen, which she tries to ignore. When that doesn’t work, he starts to stalk BJ. And, uh yeah, Stephen is a complete Sociopath. But, long story short, BJ finds out that something happened during the tour.
Keefe is asked to run the Parent and Teen outing, which doesn’t go well. Well, it doesn’t go well because the guy from the sex shop recognizes him. And Keefe isn’t so good with words. So, instead of explaining to the parents that he bought the stuff in order to burn it and get it away from people, he uh…let’s just say people don’t want him as Assistant Youth Pastor anymore. So, for the good of the church, Kelvin tells Keefe that Keefe will be working with the Refugee section of the church from now on. However, Keefe feels he needs to distance himself from Kelvin and decides to move out. The thing is, this is very much a variation of the plot from the first season (except instead of kicking Keefe out, Keefe is moving out) and we really don’t need to do this again.
Meanwhile, Jesse is going through quite a few things. He’s inducted into The Cap and Pistol, but he clearly isn’t the right fit and gets punished on his first day. Baby Billy tries to get Jesse to get him into the club, but Jesse doesn’t. Billy says Jesse’s problem is that he’s trying to run the Church like Eli, but he can’t be like Eli because he doesn’t have a star by his side like Eli did. But Billy can fix that. Turns out Billy had a hologram created of Aimee-Leigh, so they can "resurrect" her. I’m not sure how to feel about where this is going. I can maybe see some people in the family being rich enough for that tech, but not Baby Billy. Anyway, Jesse goes home and finds his middle son having sex with her girlfriend. In the living room and, uh yeah, no one needed to see that.
Finally, Eli and May-May are starting to reconnect. And it seems like the cousins are happy to be living with Eli, even to the point they’re doing yard work (or so they say), and trying to make amends with their mother. That is until they steal a tons of ammonium nitrate from the Eli’s compound and give it to Peter. Now, I hope that we’ll find out that sometime between the dinner and this scene, that Peter got in contact with the cousins again and threatened them into doing his dirty work. Otherwise, I’ve got questions.
Billy was a quiet little baby, I just know that MF was born barely crying silent, he scared doctors with how quiet he was.
It's baby Billy hours for me, I just know he was a cute baby.
Yeah 100% and he was definitely also one of those really serious faced babies. Resting death glare from day one. Nancy would have got him a role in a Gerber commercial but they only really give those to babies that smile.
He's giving Wednesday Adam's face in every childhood photo.
Happy Mother's Day
from baby Billy & his horrible mother.
Sure, she's a sweet old lady NOW but she emotionally tortured Billy for years while she covertly tortured Sandinistas for Reagan's CIA.
↓ 🚨DECLASSIFIED: TRIPLE THREAT DID IRAN-CONTRA🚨 ↓
Oliver North was just the fall guy. Starting 1981, Triple Threat personally couriered US weapons to Iran around an arms embargo to sell to Ruhollah Khomeini, delivered with a smile and a medley of songs from The Music Man.
Reassigned to the administration's other pet project in Honduras, she was tasked with unifying branches of the Contras to overthrow the leftist Santinista government of Nicaragua.
"Human Rights Violations SCHUMAN Rights Violation! Nothing is too extreme in defense of American righteousness!"
Ignominiously dropped from superhero rosters for being pregnant in the mid-'70s, she was suddenly reactivated in 1981 as an off-the-books agent for international enforcement.
She had volunteered and raised money for Reagan, having been charmed by him years earlier when he chaired the Screen Actors Guild and been governor of California. She wept openly at his Morning in America campaign ads, that theatrical emotionalism and invoking of American exceptionalism hit her in the sweet spot.
Rose Whalen: "Communists are worse than rock & roll and jazz cigarettes."
Her strong conservative values (she bought into every Satanic Panic) and unquestioning, simplistic belief in "truth, justice, the American way" made her a natural choice for squelching revolutions and taking out communists. She could still high-kick and karate jazz hands with the best of them in a physical fight (Threat #1). Her acting skills made her a natural spy and emotional manipulator (Threat #2). And what a set of pipes (TRIPLE THREAT)!
Billy, only a kindergartner at the time, not even aware of his mother's previous career as superhero Triple Threat. He was told had to move to the suburbs of Washington DC for "mom's new job" for the government.
She always brought him back a souvenir from her "work trips," painting the path of her government-sponsored bloodbath in the from of snow-globes, stuffed animals and souvenir spoons.
HELLO TUMBLR I have officially finished Season 1 of The Righteous Gemstones! The finale felt surprisingly...wholesome? Overall I like how it ended, and it was nice to see the major storylines wrapped up. Some other random thoughts:
-Judy's confession, what in the HECK o_O
-Keefe's...outfit. (another "o_O")
-Aunt Tiffany's voice is so annoying! But her artwork was really cute!
-Not enough Baby Billy this time. His scenes were still great though, and I kind of liked that stylish new shirt.
-I love the music in this show! Eeee!
It'll probably be a little while before I start the next season, since I prefer spacing out my shows...but I'm definitely looking forward to it!!
