29. How many books do you have on your 'to-be-read' list?
199 lmao...i have a slightly smaller to-read list for this year that focuses on just books i own physical copies of but haven't read yet. that one is 35 books rn...
32. Name your favorite author(s).
hmmm ok gonna try to make this list like. authors who i've read multiple works from & enjoyed as opposed to just really liking one novel or series so. hannah moskowitz for sure. also victor hugo and mervyn peake...kurt vonnegut...neil gaiman...have also read & enjoyed multiple works by han kang, ursula k. leguin, octavia butler, and gabriel garcia marquez but i feel less familiar w them so...not sure if i'd confidently call them favorites...have also read a lot from v.e. schwab but not sure if she'd quite make the favorites list either bc there's wider variance in how much i like her works...
for nonfiction donna j. haraway, judith butler, leslie feinberg, bell hooks, audre lorde, angela y. davis, andrea long chu, gloria anzaldua, and lee edelman
for poetry louise gluck, e.e. cummings, natalie diaz, franny choi, and richard siken
43. Title of a book you own that's in the worst physical condition you have. Explain what happened to it. Post a picture if you want.
not by my bookshelves rn so can't take a pic but pretty sure it's animorphs book #6 the capture which i found at a used bookstore & half the cover is like...ripped + falling apart. i buy animorphs books pretty much anytime i find them in a used bookstore tho regardless of condition so <3

hi kes :] if you wanted to do more book asks —20, 32, 39?
hi claire MWAH!!
20. Where and how do you find new books to read?
Man good question. These days mostly from friends mentioning them and direct recommendations or, like, authors who I've been meaning to read for a while and eventually decide to choose a book from. I also will do hanging out at a bookstore I like and taking pictures of new stuff they have in that seems interesting and saving them to get from the library later. And also when I need a new audiobook I often will just choose a topic and scroll through all of Libby's options until I find something of a tolerable length with interesting vibes
32. Name your favorite author(s).
Hanif Abdurraqib, Terry Pratchett, Gabe Habash, Tamsyn Muir, Hannah Moskowitz, Tom Stoppard, probably many others that I'm forgetting. Lately I've been doing much less loving authors than I used to and a lot more focusing on just individual works
39. Do you read reviews before picking up a book?
Basically never. If I hear about an interesting review I'll read it on its own sometimes, and that can influence my likelihood of reading whatever it is, and I'll often ask the collective if anyone's read something and has any idea if I'll like it, but I don't like...check Goodreads reviews or whatever. Due to most of those people are bad at reading books and having opinions. And also I only really pay attention to recs/nonrecs from people who actually know what I like

Every time I see people talking about representation and #OwnVoices online, I think about the time Hannah Moskowitz’ Not Otherwise Specified was on an #OwnVoices Black authors Instagram ad
And I messaged the page and was like “respectfully, I like her books, but she’s not Black” and they were like “oh, thanks someone just gave us a list and she was on it”

Author’s note
There are some things you need to know before you read this one-shot.
This one-shot isn’t set in a particular season, but the characters are in their senior year at West Valley High School, with the exception of Robby, who is working on getting his G.E.D., and Hawk has a blue mohawk.
Whether or not West Valley High School has a drama club is unknown, but it does in this one-shot.
Robby and Tory left Cobra Kai and joined Daniel and Johnny’s combined dojo. They are friends with Miguel, Sam, Hawk, Moon, Demetri, and Yasmine.
Miguel is dating Sam. Robby is dating Tory. Hawk is dating Moon. Demetri is dating Yasmine.
Nina Hale and her boyfriend, Jason Gilbert, were seniors at West Valley High School. They were friends with Miguel, Sam, Robby, Tory, Hawk, Moon, Demetri, and Yasmine.
Nina and Jason didn’t do karate. They were members of the drama club at West Valley High. They joined the club in sophomore year. They started dating a few weeks after joining the club.
The drama club was putting on a production of Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical.
The musical was set in 19th-century London, but because some members of the cast didn’t know how to do British accents, the director had told everyone to speak in their normal voices. The song Bring on the Men had to be replaced with the song Good 'N' Evil, as Principal Lopez considered Bring on the Men to be too risqué for a high school production. Most of the budget went to the music, the sets, and the lighting, so the costume designer didn’t have money for corsets.
Jason was playing Henry Jekyll and his alter ego, Edward Hyde. Nina was playing Lucy Harris. The other students who had auditioned for the musical were playing the rest of the characters.
Anyone from the Valley could watch the musical, as long as they purchased a ticket. Tickets could be purchased on West Valley High’s website and at various stores in the Valley.
On the opening night of the musical, Miguel, Sam, Robby, Tory, Hawk, Moon, Demetri, and Yasmine walked into the auditorium at West Valley High and found their assigned seats.
Miguel, Sam, Robby, Tory, Hawk, Moon, Demetri, and Yasmine were in the fourth row.
The director of the musical appeared on the stage. She was the drama teacher at West Valley High. She ran the drama club.
“Good evening, everyone. Welcome to the opening night of Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical. Thank you for being here. Enjoy the show!”
The audience applauded.
The director walked off the stage.
The lights in the auditorium turned off. The curtains opened. A white spotlight turned on, and the show began.
A few minutes after the show began, the white spotlight turned off, the curtains closed, and the lights in the auditorium turned on. The director appeared on the stage and told the audience that there would be a 15-minute intermission. The audience gathered in the lobby.
The intermission ended. The audience returned to their seats. The lights in the auditorium turned off. The curtains opened. A white spotlight turned on.
A balcony was in the middle of the stage. Behind the balcony, there was a piece of plywood that was painted and positioned so as to give the appearance of buildings and a street. A window was positioned in front of the wall.
Jason appeared on the stage. "Dearest Lucy…"
Jason was 6 feet tall. He had fair skin and blue eyes. His short, straight brown hair was slicked back and parted to the left. He was clean-shaven. His body was slender but muscular. He was wearing an unbuttoned knee-length black coat, a black vest with a single button in the front, a black necktie, a white dress shirt tucked into black dress pants, and black dress shoes with black laces.
Nina looked at Jason before looking at the floor.
Nina was 5 foot 4. She had fair skin, blue eyes, and a slim build. Her blonde hair reached her chest. It was parted in the middle and styled in barrel curls. She was wearing ankle-length black leather boots that laced up in the front and had low heels and a red dress with a black lace overlay, a sweetheart neckline that turned into off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a floor-length skirt. The neckline showed a hint of cleavage. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft brown eyeshadow. Her lips were strawberry red.
“For a moment, I thought you were someone else." Nina said, slightly panicked.
"For a moment, it almost was." Jason made his way to the middle of the stage. "I have some rather sad news, Lucy." He looked at Nina and started to walk towards her. "I have to go away for a while. A friend and I have a little dispute to settle." He looked at the floor and continued to walk. She crossed her arms and looked at the audience. "Are you glad to see me go?"
Nina shook her head and dropped her arms so they were by her side. "No."
Jason shook his head in a way that made him appear quite unsettling. Miguel, Sam, Robby, Tory, Hawk, Moon, Demetri, and Yasmine could feel chills running up their spines. “You're lying to me."
Jason picked up a piece of hair that had been on Nina’s shoulder. "I can always tell when you're lying."
"When will you be back?" Nina asked, looking at Jason out of the corner of her eye. He played with the piece of hair and laughed bitterly.
Jason moved to the other side of Nina. "There is no knowing."
"But God help you if you're not waiting for me when I return," Jason sing-songed.
Nina looked at the floor. Jason moved her hair to the side of her neck, and she looked at him slightly. His hands moved up her body to touch her shoulder.
Music started playing.
Nina began to sing.
"I feel your fingers
Cold on my shoulder
Your chilling touch
As it runs down my spine."
Jason’s hands moved up and down the top of Nina’s arms. She looked straight ahead before turning to face him.
"Watching your eyes
As they invade my soul."
Jason’s hands moved down Nina’s arms.
"Forbidden pleasures
I'm afraid to make mine."
Jason’s lips ghosted over Nina’s neck, and his hands held hers tightly, bringing her right one up to her shoulder.
"At the touch of your hand
At the sound of your voice…"
Jason let go of Nina. Her fingers lightly touched his arm.
"At the moment your eyes meet mine…"
Jason moved Nina’s hair from her shoulder so it was resting on her back instead.
"I am out of my mind
I am out of control
Full of feelings I can't define."
Jason wrapped his arms around Nina’s waist, holding her tightly.
"It's a sin with no name," Jason sang.
"Like a hand in a flame," Nina sang.
"And our senses proclaim it's a dangerous game," Jason and Nina sang.
"A darker dream that has no ending." Jason let go of Nina. "That's so unreal, you believe that it's true." He gripped her arm, and she looked at him as she followed him across the stage. She stopped on the other side of the stage, and he walked up a few of the steps on the staircase. "A dance of death out of a mystery tale. The frightened princess doesn't know what to do." He cornered her on the stairs, looking at her harshly. She looked at the floor, slightly panicked.
"Will the ghosts go away?" Jason sang, burying his head in the crook of Nina's neck.
"No!" Nina sang. She sounded scared.
"Will she will them to stay?" Jason sang.
"No!" Nina sang. She sounded scared.
"Either way, there's no way to win," Jason sang.
Nina stumbled away from Jason.
"All I know is I'm lost, and I'm counting the cost. My emotions are in a spin. I don't know who's to blame." Nina walked up the stairs to the balcony, looking behind her to see Jason following her.
"It's a crime and a shame," Jason sang.
"But it's true all the same," Nina sang.
Nina walked backwards across the balcony. Jason caught up with her.
"It's a dangerous game," Jason and Nina sang.
Jason and Nina hit a high note. "No one speaks."
Jason grabbed Nina’s arm and pulled her in front of him.
Jason and Nina hit a high note. "Not one word."
Jason and Nina hit a high note. "All the words are in our eyes."
Jason held Nina tightly.
Jason and Nina hit a high note. "Silence speaks."
Jason and Nina hit a high note. "Loud and clear."
Nina walked away from Jason slightly.
Jason and Nina hit a high note. "All the words we don't want to hear!"
Jason and Nina looked at each other before facing the audience.
"At the touch of your hand…"
Jason grabbed Nina’s hand and put it on his neck.
"At the sound of your voice…"
Nina’s hand slowly moved down Jason’s body.
"At the moment your eyes meet mine…"
Jason and Nina turned to face each other. Her hands cupped his cheeks as she walked further along the balcony.
"I am losing my mind
I am losing control
Fighting feelings I can't define."
Nina let go of Jason and walked away, looking at the floor, slightly panicked.
"It's a sin with no name," Nina sang.
Jason slowly followed Nina.
"No remorse, and no shame. Fire, fury, and flame," Jason sang.
Nina hit a high note. "'Cause the Devil's to blame!"
Jason and Nina hit a high note. "And the angels proclaim…"
Jason was standing behind Nina. She was facing away from him. He grabbed her waist and turned her around. They took a deep breath before singing the final line. "It's a dangerous game."
Nina moved backwards slightly. Jason's hand went to the back of her neck and pulled her into a kiss. She pulled away a few seconds later. They walked off of the stage. Once they were backstage, they could hear the audience cheering.
Tory looked at Robby and whispered, “They’re really good.”
Because she was the newest member of Robby’s friend group, this was Tory’s first time watching something performed by the drama club.
Robby nodded in agreement. “Yeah,” he whispered.
A few minutes passed.
The stage was empty.
Jason stood on the side of the stage, a white spotlight shining down on him as he looked at the floor.
Jason was wearing a brown vest with a single button in the front, a white dress shirt tucked into brown dress pants, and brown dress shoes with brown laces.
Music started playing.
Jason began to sing.
"It's over now
I know inside
No one will ever know the sorry tale of Edward Hyde and those who died
No one must ever know
They'd only see the tragedy
They'd not see my intent
The shadow of Hyde's evil would forever kill the good that I had meant
Am I a good man?
Am I a mad man?
It's such a fine line between a good man and a..."
A red light appeared in the middle of the stage, and Jason walked towards it, the white spotlight following him.
Jason hunched forward, a shadow appearing behind him. There was a transparent curtain between him and the audience.
"Do you really think that I would ever let you go?" Jason sang.
Jason hit a high note. "Do you think I'll ever set you free?"
"If you do, I'm sad to say it simply isn't so," Jason sang before quickly turning right.
Jason hit a high note. "You will never get away from me!"
The white spotlight reappeared, and Jason stood up straight.
"All that you are is a face in the mirror. I close my eyes, and you disappear," Jason sang.
The light turned red, and Jason hunched forward, a shadow appearing behind him.
"I'm what you face when you face in the mirror. As long as you live, I will still be here," Jason sang.
The white spotlight reappeared, and Jason stood up straight.
"All that you are is the end of a nightmare. All that you are is a dying scream," Jason sang.
Jason hit a high note. "After tonight, I shall end this demon dream."
The next time the light turned red, Jason looked like he was dragged back into a hunching position as the shadow appeared behind him.
"This is not a dream, my friend, and it will never end!" Jason sang.
Jason hit a high note. "This one is the nightmare that goes on!"
Jason quickly turned the other way.
"Hyde is here to stay, no matter what you may pretend," Jason sang.
Jason hit a high note. "And he'll flourish long after you're gone!"
The white spotlight reappeared, and Jason stood up straight.
"Soon, you will die, and my memory will hide you. You cannot choose but to lose control," Jason sang.
The light turned red, and Jason hunched forward, a shadow appearing behind him.
"You can't control me! I live deep inside you! Each day, you'll feel me devour your soul!" Jason sang.
The white spotlight reappeared, and Jason stood up straight.
"I don't need to survive, like you need me. I'll become whole as you dance with death," Jason sang.
Jason hit a high note. "And I'll rejoice as you breathe your final breath!"
The light turned red, and Jason hunched forward, a shadow appearing behind him.
Jason hit a high note. "I'll live inside you forever!"
The white spotlight reappeared, and Jason stood up straight.
"No!" Jason screamed.
The light turned red, and Jason hunched forward, a shadow appearing behind him.
Jason hit a high note. "With Satan himself by my side!"
The white spotlight reappeared, and Jason stood up straight.
"Noooo!" Jason screamed. His hand reached up desperately, like he was trying to hold on to the good side of him, but it was no use. He was literally dragged back down, and the shadow was now looming over him and the audience.
Jason hit a high note. "And I know that now and forever, they'll never be able to separate Jekyll from Hyde!"
Jason was standing up straight again. His hand was in his hair.
"Can't you see it's over now? It's time to die!" Jason yelled desperately, looking around him.
"No, not I! Only you!" Jason yelled.
"If I die, you'll die too!" Jason yelled.
Jason was quickly hunched over again.
"You'll die in me. I'll be you!" Jason yelled.
"Damn you, Hyde! Leave me be!" Jason yelled, voice shaking. He was very good at expressing how desperate Jekyll was.
"Can't you see? You are me!" Jason yelled.
"Nooo!" Jason screamed. "Deep inside…"
"I am you! You are Hyde!" Jason yelled.
"No! Never!" Jason yelled desperately.
"Yes! Forever!" Jason yelled evilly.
"God damn you, Hyde! Take all your evil deeds, and rot in Hell!" Jason yelled angrily.
"I'll see you there, Jekyll," Jason sneered before standing up straight again. The light flashed white before going back to red, and then the shadow slowly appeared until the stage became enveloped in darkness.
The curtains closed, and the audience cheered.
Hawk looked at Demetri and whispered, “That was fucking awesome.”
After the curtain call, Miguel, Sam, Robby, Tory, Hawk, Moon, Demetri, and Yasmine met up with Nina and Jason in the lobby.
Nina and Jason had changed out of their costumes.
Moon smiled and pulled Nina and Jason into a hug. “Hey. Great job, you two!”
“Thanks.” Nina and Jason said.
Miguel smiled at Nina and Jason. “Hey. You were awesome.”
“Thanks.” Nina and Jason said.
Sam smiled at Nina and Jason. “Hey. You were really good.”
“Thanks.” Nina and Jason said.
Robby smiled at Nina and Jason. “Hey. You were awesome.”
“Thanks.” Nina and Jason said.
Tory smiled at Nina and Jason. “Hey. You did a great job.”
“Thanks.” Nina and Jason said.
Hawk smiled at Nina and Jason. “Hey. You were awesome.”
“Thanks.” Nina and Jason said.
Demetri smiled at Nina and Jason. “Hey. You did a great job.”
“Thanks.” Nina and Jason said.
Yasmine smiled at Nina and Jason. “Hey. You were really good.”
“Thanks.” Nina and Jason said.
“We’re going to go get some milkshakes. Do you want to join us?” Miguel asked Nina and Jason.
Nina and Jason nodded.
Nina and Jason followed Miguel, Sam, Robby, Tory, Hawk, Moon, Demetri, and Yasmine out of the school.

Title: The Love Song of Ivy K. Harlowe
Author: Hannah Moskowitz
Series or standalone: standalone
Publication year: 2021
Genres: fiction, contemporary, LGBT+, romance, mental health
Blurb: Ivy K. Harlowe is a lot of things - she’s Andie’s best friend, she’s the centre of attention, and she is, without fail, the hottest girl in the room anytime, anyplace. She has freckles and dimples and bright green eyes, and with someone else’s energy, she’d be adorable...but there is nothing cute about Ivy. She is ice and hot metal and electricity. She is the girl who every lesbian wants, but she has never been with the same person twice. She’s one-of-a-kind but also predictable, so Andie will always be Andie, her best friend, never Andie, her girlfriend...then she meets Dot, and Ivy does something even Andie would never have guessed: she sees Dot another day, and another, and another. Now Andie’s world is slowly going up in smoke, and no matter what she does, the flames grow higher. She lit that match without knowing who or what it would burn. Ivy K. Harlowe is a lot of things...but falling in love wasn’t supposed to be one of them, unless it was with Andie.

Amazon Screwed Over a Queer Book
Hannah Moskowitz, author of some of my absolute favorite books such as Salt (siblings who hunt sea monsters together stay together!), Gena/Finn (queer girls in fandom spaces!), and Sick Kids In Love (chronically ill teens get a happy ending romance!) wrote a new book. It’s called Sugar Summer and she describes it as her lesbian Dirty Dancing book.
Tumblr media
She’s self-publishing it on Amazon because it doesn’t have a traditional publisher behind it. It’s been listed on Amazon for a while for pre-order.
Then, this morning, I and every other person who had pre-ordered it got an email from Amazon saying the book was not going to be published and our orders had been canceled and refunded.
Hannah Moskowitz had not cancelled the book. Amazon fucked up, took down the listing, and robbed her of all the pre-order sales it had gained in the middle of a pandemic in which authors are struggling to stay afloat.
She got in touch with Amazon and got it re-listed, but Amazon probably won’t do anything else to fix the mistake. People have to manually re-buy it themselves, and those who don’t know the cancellation was a mistake might not do so.
So, if you had the book pre-ordered? You can still get your Lesbian Dirty Dancing! It’s out now! Support the author!
If you had never heard of the book? Look up Sugar Summer! You might want to read this ownvoices queer summer romance!

Hi I would love some book recommendations!!! (unless u were being sarcastic and I didn’t pick up on that lol) I’m a big fan of fantasy but I don’t like sci-fi and my favourite authors are Diana Wynne Jones, Terry Pratchett and Seanan McGuire. I actually read (and loved!!) the Queen’s Thief series bc of this blog lol
I was doing a bit of a joking tone where it was meant to read like I was giggling coyly and curling my hair around one finger but I was completely serious about making reclists!  Also I’m super glad I was able to get yet another person to read the QT books.
It sounds like you like books that play with fantasy tropes and have interesting settings!  Here are some books I think you might enjoy:
Shadows by Robin McKinley.  This book really reads like a lost DWJ novel, and in fact if I remember correctly, it’s dedicated to her!  In the world of this book, there’s Oldworld (where they do magic) and Newworld (where magic is banned).  Maggie lives in Newworld and she suspects that her new stepdad, who’s from Oldworld, is still doing magic because there are these mysterious shadows following him that no one else can see.
In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan.  Absolutely hilarious book, makes me cackle every time I read it.  It’s about a boy named Elliot who finds out he’s one of the special kids who can cross the border into a magical fantasy world.  Elliot is a huge nerd who is super aware of genre conventions and he asks all kinds of uncomfortable questions.
The Kingston Cycle by C.L. Polk, first book is Witchmark.  The worldbuilding in this series is really cool because it has some similarities to Edwardian England but clearly pulls from the author’s imagination as well.  The main character has a type of magic that means that he’s doomed to become a magic battery for his sister, so he runs away and goes into hiding.
The Founders Trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennett, first one is Foundryside.  This one miiight not appeal to you because while it is fantasy, it does have some scifi flavor--magic is treated kind of like a programming language.  Sancia is one of the best thieves in town due to her unusual ability to know a great deal of information about any object she touches, but she only has this ability because of gruesome medical experimentation that was done without her consent.  She finds a talking key on one of her Theft Missions.
The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin, first one is The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.  I think these have some themes in common with the QT books.  Lots of complicated politics, people having close relationships with their Very Real And Present gods, also some uhhhhhh Charged power dynamics a la certain relationships in QT.
The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch, first one is also Rivers of London unless you’re in the US where it’s Midnight Riot.  This is specifically if you like the October Daye series, and I do have some reservations about reccing it because it is about Magic Cops and as you may know, ACAB.  Police brutality is somewhat addressed, partially b/c the main character is biracial (Black mother, white father) but... ehhh.  That being said, they are really enjoyable & quick urban fantasy set in London if you can turn Politics Brain off.  Peter Grant is a totally normal policeman who accidentally ends up with a ghost being his #1 witness for a murder.  Things escalate.
A History of Glitter and Blood by Hannah Moskowitz.  This is also kind of an October Daye-based rec with maybe a little Wayward Children thrown in.  It’s about a group of teenage faeries who are the only faeries who stay in a city when other groups invade.  It’s about surviving during war, trauma, who gets to tell their story, etc.  It gets pretty Heavy.
The Secret Country trilogy by Pamela Dean, first book is also called The Secret Country.  This is a super underrated portal fantasy series that I jokingly refer to as “Narnia but better and with literature instead of christianity”.  A group of kids find that the made-up fantasy world that their imaginary games were set in is real and they can go there.  Actually dives into some of the issues with suddenly showing up in a fantasy world when you’re from our world and has a practical, satisfying ending in my opinion.
The Flora trilogy by Ysabeau S. Wilce, first one is Flora Segunda.  This is recced for if you liked the Tiffany Aching books--they are more MG/YA, for sure.  The worldbuilding is really interesting and influenced by Spain and South America.  (Your mileage may very on how well this is handled, I think I need to do a re-read with an eye on that.)  The main character is a very strong-willed young girl.  These books kinda end on a cliffhanger that I don’t think is going to get resolved.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison.  Lots of fun politics like in QT, with the bonus of elves and goblins and stuff!  Maya definitely has some Irene or Helen vibes, in that he is not expected to ever become the heir to the throne until everyone else dies, which of course happens.  He’s a total outsider who has to scramble to figure out who to trust and how to handle the fact that he is now the emperor.  Gets pretty dark in places but has a wonderful, upbeat core.
The Heroine Complex series by Sarah Kuhn, first one is also called Heroine Complex.  These might skirt a little close to scifi but seeing as they’re about demons I’d still call them fantasy.  They’re set in San Francisco, where portals opened years ago and spat out demons, also giving some people magical powers.  Evie is the assistant and best friend of the most popular superhero in San Francisco, but she has powers too.

odd multiples of 13?
13. Your favorite romance novel?
I am trying to answer differently for all of these but if I wasn't the answer would be Teeth Hannah Moskowitz again <3 For a different answer, I don't know if it fully counts, but The Realm of Possibility by David Levithan is my best friend in the whole world
39. A book featuring your favorite character?
This is an insane question. My singular favorite character? My one (1) favorite character? Let me direct you to a fun little server called Crop,
In actuality I think I'll go with Nimona maybe :] I don't think Nimona's my favorite character of all time but the others are books/authors I've already answered with and then, like, Kelsier my best friend Kelsier but he's not my favorite for his actual character he's my favorite for his narrative function so. Nimona works :]
65. A book that scared the crap out of you?
G-d I remember being absolutely terrified at some points in The Tale of Despereaux. I don't really get scared at books anymore but when he's down in the dungeons of whatever...
91. The shortest book you've read?
I have no idea how to answer this. Do graphic novels count? Do short stories? Novellas? Picture books I read as a child? Hello? Maybe Binti by Nnedi Okorafor? I think it counts as a full novel and also is definitely very short
117. Your favorite anthology?
Persistence: All Ways Butch and Femme, edited by Ivan E Coyote and Zena Sharman my BELOVED

Do you have a fic you've written that you both are so proud of but also hate to look at to long? I can't be the only one right?
oh god, anon, I actually clutched my chest like I was wearing a string of pearls when I read this.
yes. yes I do. no, you are not the only one.
me being a dramatic bitch below the cut if you want deets:
I wrote a fic a few years ago for a book called Teeth by Hannah Moskowitz, and, while I consider that to be one of my better short works (but only if you read it RIGHT after the book), I wrote it in first person. not third, like I always do and almost always have done (we won't talk about my Homestuck phase).
first.
myself? I never read or write first person fic. ever. why did I think it was a good idea to write that in first person as my first plunge??? I loathe the day I did that, and wish desperately I had written it in third person like I usually do. yes, I was trying to write like the author. and I cringe each time I look at it now.
