THAT'S IT! This is a Janet Drake Defense Post
As may be obvious, I spend a lot of time reading fanfic. And there's this trend that drives me nuts, and it's villainizing Janet Drake.
I'm not gonna say she's an A+ mother. She's not. She chose her career and adventures over spending time with her child much of the time. But fandom portrays her as some rich pompous ice queen, which is never shown.
Janet Drake mostly appears in the story Tim's introduced, and in the story she dies.
So, let's start from the top: Haly's Circus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This event is the only time we see her really interacting with Tim before her death, but it shows that at least when he was young, she was an active part of his life. She was worried about bringing Tim because it might scare him. And then rightfully scolds her husband for being sexist because Jack Drake actually IS a jerk.
Tumblr media
...I don't like the art in this comic. Or that the writer doesn't know how kids speak.
But Janet is being supportive of Tim's clear interest in Dick's performance.
And then tragedy strikes and she acts like, y'know, a mother.
Tumblr media
Her priority is getting her son and herself out of there.
Also worth noting that the Drakes sent a copy of that final photo of the Graysons TO Dick, which is how he has it at all. If both of them were stuck up pricks, would they even bother sending a photo to a grieving child performer they hardly know? I can't imagine Jack really bothering, but I don't see why Janet wouldn't.
And then, by the time she's dying, we know that Tim's parents have been away for a very long time, he never knows where they are, but they've communicated enough that he knows that they've been fighting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're passive aggressive to say the least. This marriage is clearly not working anymore.
EDIT CUZ I REMEMBERED A THING:
It's worth noting that this is a time before smartphones. This comic was released in 1990, which was when pre-paid mobile phones had just started existing. Coverage isn't universal NOW, so back then it was even less, and Jack and Janet are archeologists (or archeologist adjacent?) so they're going to be in less developed and populated areas most of the time. It's unlikely they'd have consistent access to a functional phone that could call the states to talk to Tim regularly.
This isn't to defend their absence, because fuck that, but it's to give it some context. I don't think they were trying to ignore or abandon Tim. Communication was just not readily available and Janet seems to get wrapped up in work...and Jack's an asshole.
Also for note, Janet is probably the one sending Tim postcards in the first place. It being signed "Mom and Dad" is what makes me think that. Jack would have put himself first if he wrote it, it woulda said "Dad and Mom". That's admittedly pure speculation, BUT IT FITS SOOOOOO
My thought is if this were made modern, Janet would be sending extremely scattered texts and Tim would get next to nothing from Jack unless Janet prompted him.
END EDIT
(Fair warning, this story is a few levels of Yikes, but I'm gonna stay on topic)
Bad guy Obeah Man does...something? to the pilot, and they crash, and he has a group of people kidnap the Drakes and their assistant Jeremy.
Tumblr media
Danger really puts some things in perspective, for Janet, at least. And that continues for her. Jack is a bit delusional and in denial, thinking he has any control of the situation.
They are tied up and filmed for ransom, their assistant killed right in front of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jack just keeps raging, but Janet is having regrets. Notice how she doesn't cry until Tim is brought up. Could be nothing, could be something.
And then she dies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her only other major appearance is when Tim is having a fever dream from the Clench and everything is kind of okay for a minute.
Tumblr media
Tim very clearly loves his mom. And we may not get a lot of characterization for her, but she's not cold or callous like people write her constantly.
And now, we finally have a little more about her as of Batman 134.
I haven't really been keeping up since the Gotham War stuff because What The Fuck Was That My Guy, but I recently saw this specific comic.
The multiverse is fucked up again, some way some how, and Bruce is lost (again) and Tim has to get him back (again). This time, Tim is going in after him. But he doesn't end up going straight to Bruce.
He goes to see an alt of his mom.
Tumblr media
Tim missed her so much that he ended up going to her before Bruce.
And her immediate reaction is to run up and hug him. Does that look like a mother who doesn't love her son?
Tumblr media
"Do you have anyone to take care of you?"
"I don't know how this happened, this miracle...but I just know, in my heart of hearts, it was to show me...that every version of my son is a good one."
Tell me again that this woman is heartless and didn't want her son, I fucking dare you.
Tumblr media
And we get more meaning to the name "Robin" and a little crumb about Tim's grandmother. As a treat.
This is all to say, please stop writing Janet Drake as a cold, heartless bitch.
Small final note though: Jack Drake is, in fact, a shitty person and a shitty father. He does still love Tim and Tim loves him AND THAT IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE, but the relationship is a mess. If either parent is actively abusive, it's 1000% Jack "smashed a TV because my son wasn't listening to me and threatened Bruce Wayne at gunpoint" Drake. Probably part of why the marriage was falling apart.
Anyway, yeah, let's retire the "Jack and Janet Drake are Bad Parents" tag and replace it with "Jack Drake is a Bad Parent" and "Janet Drake's C+ Parenting" or something.

Hi! I reread On a Slow Night, and at the beginning, darling and Johnny had an argument, I was wondering if the guys and darling had any other fights? If they did, what were they about and how serious were they? How often do arguments happen between them? How fast (or long) does it take for arguments to get resolved and how do they usually make up? Do they think that those arguments and the resolutions of those fights make their relationship stronger? Or do they feel the opposite? How do they individually feel or think about any fights they have?
Sorry if that's too many questions, I just love reading your thoughts about those three 😅
Hi! I'm always happy to talk about these three, and I expanded on some of your questions below, sort of. I don't want to elaborate on it too much or too specifically because in the upcoming arc of the story... a lot of the flashbacks are more tenuous times of the relationship (take that for what you will) and I don't want to spoil anything. 🖤
They fight. It would be impossible not to. There are too many variables regarding their relationship for it to not happen.
Johnny and Darling fight more quickly, easily, than any other combination. Sometimes they misunderstand one another, or someone takes something to heart, or someone is out of patience and snaps. They rub against each really explosively sometimes, and things can just... catch fire like that, you know? Johnny and Simon fight the least, because they're so just in sync, in tune, and spend so much of their time together. They also spend so much time in very stressful situations, so it puts a lot of things in perspective. Petty bullshit matters less, because even if Simon gets irritated with Johnny over something he did or said, or vice verse, is it life or death? Is it worth speaking to your partner in anger, knowing it may the last words he ever hears? No. Simon and Darling's fights are probably the worst. They have more of a dom/sub relationship, more so than Simon and Johnny or Johnny and Darling, that the arguments cut deep. Those fights seriously wound Darling, and they hurt everyone in the house, not just those two, because Johnny always feel caught in the middle. Darling may be a bit of a mess, but she's not past pushing and prodding and being stubborn (as we know) when she wants to be.
They all stand staunchly on the side of 'what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger' and they believe that of their arguments too. They try to never, ever go to bed angry with one another, always working to resolve whatever is going on the best they can. They're all able to move on, together. Even when communication isn't at it's best, they really do try to make sure they get it all out, if that makes sense.
Obviously, we know everything isn't perfect. If it was, Chapter 1 would have never happened and we wouldn't have a story. But the outright fights are not what has gotten us here in the first place, I think that's important to note.
They all have a fight, that sticks out in their mind. That haunts them. Simon's is coming up in Chapter 11ish? In a flashback. And then Johnny and Darling's are both after that.
Also I will add that the marriage debacle when Darling left the flat and Simon screamed FUCK in the flat, that was pretty bad. Rare occasion where he fought with Johnny.
Thank you so much for this question! I love any opportunity to talk about my characters like this, and I hope even those this was pretty vague, it helps answer some of your Qs!

from me to you
vampire yang jungwon + human female reader. word count 2,3k. vampire au/fantasy au. warnings hurt/comfort, abandonment. &team's appearance. not proofread.
Tumblr media
«From me to you. A letter for Yang Jungwon.
I miss you, Won. I don't know where you are, I don't know why you left me, and I don't know if I honestly want to hold that knowledge in my soul until my ends arrive.
Because unlike you, I'm just a mortal spirit. I desire to spend the rest of my life with you but I understand that you don't yearn for the same as me, and even if it hurts my heart, I accept it, by cause of my respect for you and your freedom, since I had the chance to meet you I noticed how you are an untied person and that's what attracted me of you, and that's why I always knew how this would end, I tried to ignore it but… such a free nature being tied to someone? The end was evident.
I'm sorry, at this point I'm just rambling about everything I can, I have sent so many letters this year and no one got a response which makes me feel a bit unmotivated, because of that I chose to start using a diary and set all my thoughts in there! I don't want to wait anymore for an answer that will never come, for a lover that will never come. A diary is for me, I feel it can help me to heal and cure my inner self.
It's my time to go, this will be my last letter meaning that is a definitive farewell for me, forgetting is not an option and even if it was I would never choose it, because ¿why would I forget you? The only man I loved, you opened my eyes to a new world full of beautiful things and a different perspective, and I will always be grateful for that. I love you Jungwon, goodbye.»
The body of a man lay on the ground of a big lounge, surrounded by an immense amount of envelopes and letters, all opened, his friends standing near him encircling the space.
"She sent fifty-five letters, those are at least one letter a week" announced Jake, impressed by the situation.
"I feel bad… maybe we shouldn't have left" followed Sunoo with a hand on his chest, slightly caressing it.
"Maybe? She was heartbroken, and this letter was from a month ago so who knows how she is now" answered Sunghoon trying to be honest, but slightly being a bit rude at the end.
All the voices resounded in Yang's ears but he didn't seem to notice.
"Guys, this is not helpful for any of us" The conversation was interrupted by Heeseung, who seemed worried about his friend's state and how the others managed the situation.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think I could cause more problems than planned" apologized the leader of the pack of wolves.
"Don't apologize, K" a soft voice echoed over the rest, comforting his friend who seemed a bit conflicted. Jungwon left the cloud forming on his mind, bringing his feet back on the earth. "It was my fault, I managed the situation poorly" his hand reached his head, messing his hair with frustration that tried to hide behind a tiny smile.
"I think it's our time to leave," offered the second oldest of the opposite group, holding his comrade's shoulder.
"Are you okay with that, Jungwon?" kei asked.
The relationship between both groups was clearly out of the ordinary, vampires and werewolves forming an alliance, it could even be considered against nature, two categories who faced each other since the start of their lineage collaborating in search of a common good: peace, not only for vampires and werewolves but for the humans too, because ignoring the amount of suffering humans caused to their people, there were a few ones with a golden heart willing to help any creature just in behalf of the mere wish of assist the fellows, precisely like you.
"Yes" affirmed, accompanied by a nod, "I think it's time to rest, especially for all of you," said referring to the predators, "we don't need sleep hours, but you do. Especially after this long trip, the best is to go rest right away"
They assented, and the head of the wolves talked again. "We owe you a favor, search for us when you need it"
By the time all the werewolves crossed the entrance their presence became undetectable, fusing with the big trees that make up the forest and blending into the darkness. With that, the vampires dispersed in the house choosing to mind their own business, leaving their friend alone to have his time for himself.
"Are you going to be okay, Jungwon?" Jay asked, preoccupied with his confidant.
"Yes, don't worry, I have to fix the mess I created" sighed, his tone became serious showing his friend everything he needed to know: determination.
Between vampires and other magical species that knew him, Jungwon had a reputation of the solve problems in his group, one that tends to be a magnet for problems as pure vampires with a high range tend to get into problems easier than other vampires with a lower status, adding to the mix the uncommon union with a few werewolves, it gives the perfect recipe of a disaster. Because of this, a case where Jungwon committed a mistake was unusual, and now in a position where he had to resolve his own problems the logic that characterizes him is pushed into the background and his heart takes the lead.
«Since I had the chance to meet you I noticed how you are an untied person and that's what attracted me of you, and that's why I always knew how this would end, I tried to ignore it but… such a free nature being tied to someone? The end was evident.» The words materialize in his mind, recalling the letter he read just a few minutes ago. "She thought I abandoned her," thought, feeling his heart break like a crystal shattering on his chest.
He has to search for you, no matter the late hours or the poor lighting because of the recent night arrival, he had a mission before and achieved it sacrificing your union in the process, his mission now was to rectify his mistake, even if that doesn't bring you back to his arms like you were before, knowing that you're aware of the events that lead him to fade away and giving the most sincere apology was enough for his soul.
As if someone dropped a spell over him his body began moving by itself, heading to a small cabin near a lake that was pretty well-known to him. It was your house, probably one of the places where he keeps most happy memories, and where a lot of new emotions blossomed on his inside.
Since the start of his long-lived life, Jungwon had the opportunity to experience what love is, the love for his brothers, for his life, for his home, for his hobbies, and the nature around him amongst a lot of other things, but the feelings unfolding in his chest caused by you were a new experience, a ton of butterflies hovering on his stomach directing to his heart, a heart that hasn't beat in a long time but now felt warm and alive.
His journey ended with your portico in front of him, a lamppost lit up the entrance that was decorated with bindweed hanging over the top of it, flower pots beside the door; red carnations, crimson roses, and few aloes. Like a final touch, baby's breath surrounded the area. All of those plants were new, there was no way you could keep a plant alive, because as you said to him once: «I always forget to water my flowers! This is the third time I have killed a cactus, why do I have to be so reckless?».
Without noticing, tears started to fall from his eyes, on a familiar place that felt distant, with flora that didn't have to be there and memories from a faraway moment that now felt overwhelming, the young Jungwon got off the deep end, crying intensely while all sorts of emotions impact him, the remorse and fear, he should have told you, even if it was an emergency, how long would it have taken to inform you about the recent urgency? He just needed to tell you, but he didn't, and now he probably lost you forever, and that's such a long time for a vampire. Despite his recent thoughts about not needing your love again and only wanting to deliver his apologies in search of your wellness, his body quivered just thinking about it, the suffocating feeling of knowing that he could lose the person who showed him what is love, was eating what he had left of a soul.
But the situation had to be confronted, he was the one who chose to appear, if he had to talk to you with his face full of tears, reddish eyes, and his nose dripping then he would.
Three knocks on the door were enough to wake you up, and distrust invaded you while thinking "Who is knocking on my door at this time?" it was suspicious not to say the least, at first you decided to not open it, perhaps whoever was knocking your door in the middle of the night would choose to just go and come back in the morning, but when the second banging started it worried you, what if someone is in danger? There were sightings of wolves near your area, it could be someone at risk of being attacked and searching for help in the desolate house close to the forest. As a precaution you approached the front door with a sword in hand, maybe it was a bit exaggerated for the situation, but the elegant weapon had sentimental value being a gift from an old lover who yearned for your safety.
"Who's there?" you asked, raising your voice as a try to make your voice clearer for the person on the other side.
"I-I am Jungwon…" mumbled, his weak voice exposing the crying session he had just a few minutes before.
The answer petrified you, it was him, it was his voice, after a year of waiting patiently, after months of feeling heartbroken, and after a few weeks of giving up on ever seeing your significant other again, it happened, Jungwon came back. Without a doubt, you opened the door desperately searching for your once-lover, dropping the sword in the process.
When the entrance opened, both maintained an ecstatic stand, you wanted to jump into his arms, searching for the warmth and comfort only Yang can give you.
Taking the initiative the boy said "Hi, y/n…" while collecting the courage needed for the words he was planning to say. "I know that maybe it's not the best moment to come and that it's egoistic on my own to show up like this… but I couldn't wait anymore, not after all this time".
The words unfolded through your ears like soft petals falling out of a tree, it was enough for your tears to start sliding over your cheeks until they reached the end of your jaw, and a gasp came out of your mouth "Did you receive my letters?".
"I wasn't here to read them, but I've received all of them. I never knew you could write so good" A tiny smile showed up on his face, emphasizing his soft cheeks and shrinking his sharp eyes.
"I thought I was never going to see you again" cried with a weak voice, "Where were you?... Why did you disappear just like that?" the efforts of the boy in attempting to make a more agreeable space for the conversation worked, in spite of your questions each one more intense than the other one, your body language demonstrated comfort, especially for the way your eyes searched his and your distance reduced discreetly with a few steps made by you.
"I can explain everything, that doesn't mean you have to forgive me" Delicately his hands cupped your face, brushing your cheeks softly.
"Why wouldn't I forgive you?" you asked, a smile showing up on your face while your hands took his and caressed them, also maintaining the embrace on your cheeks.
The question confused Jungwon, who didn't manage to formulate a question before you talked again.
"Even if you truly leave, I forgive you, because that's what you decided although my heart may not take it well," said with a giggle "I already forgave you, there's no bone in my whole body that can be mad at you" the happiness you tried to demonstrate was overshadowed by crystalline years balling through your eyes. "I love you Won, and love hurts sometimes, I'm willing to experience that pain for you" Your testimony shocked the vampire, who felt touched by your words.
"I don't desire to hurt you, not anymore" And with that, helping himself with the grab he had on your face, Jungwon placed a kiss on your lips, after a long time of missing this kind of connection. A few seconds passed and the kiss got intense, the result of more than a year of dreaming with any dose of contact now unleashing, but sadly, you need to breathe. When the kiss broke, with irregular breathing spoke "Maybe we should talk inside… so I can explain everything, and you can talk to me about your new hobbies" referring to the new plants that formed part of the environment, "I'm interested in reading your diary entries if you let me"
All the pages you had the opportunity to fill talked about him, from top to bottom without wasting any minimal space, and because of that the petition made you feel a bit embarrassed, but you agreed intending to show more from you to him.

I'm sorry someone bombarded you with bitchy comments 😭. While my To Read list is lengthy and continually lengthier (actually I think something of yours with her is on it), I'd like to hear more about Ianneth-Fingon-Maedhros if you want to talk about them.
@polutrope
It wasn't really upsetting, just annoying and honestly a little bit funny. This guy left comments on all six chapters of By Love or at Least Free Will, every time I updated the story, just objecting to the entire premise of the story and ranting about how Elves have incorruptible pure souls and are immune to lust. I was sorely tempted to respond with this quote from "Laws & Customs Among the Eldar":
Even when in after days, as the histories reveal, many of the Eldar in Middle-earth became corrupted, and their hearts darkened by the shadow that lies upon Arda, seldom is any tale told of deeds of lust among them.
'Seldom' is not the same thing as 'never', and furthermore, I don't think lust is even a major theme of my story. It's more about conflicting obligations and unruly hearts.
In the end I deleted the comments without responding, because I have a personal policy of not engaging with people who are acting in bad faith. But I have to assume that this guy has no actual hobbies if he spends his time hate-reading entire stories instead of just...closing the window and moving on with his life. Maybe take up crochet, bro? Or volunteer at a soup kitchen? Watch a TV show that you like? Grow some tomatoes? Do something that will be more fulfilling than typing long screeds on AO3. I promise it will make you a happier person.
Anyway. On to the actual topic of your ask! As you've probably noticed, I am very fond of Russingon. However, I am also very fond of Fingon as Gil-galad's father. At first I balanced these two ideas by keeping my Russingon ideas and my Fingon-father-of-Gil-galad ideas in two separate universes, but then I started really fleshing out Gil-galad's mother, and it made me think some thoughts. To repeat something I said to @cuarthol in a comment on AO3:
...half the genesis of Ianneth was seeing so many stories (in multiple fandoms, not just Tolkien) where the woman is written out of a canon or semi-canon couple to make room for a popular M/M ship instead, without the female character being treated with any respect. I decided that the female perspective on that situation would be a nice change of pace and interesting to write.
I'm not trying to point fingers -- I'll readily admit that I have my male faves just like the next gal and that it's fun to make them kiss -- but the wives and girlfriends don't get a lot of love in fandom, do they? And it doesn't help that the legendarium in general tends to be a bit of a sausage fest. So I decided that Fingon would have a wife and be in love with Maedhros. But instead of focusing just on the forbidden love, I was going to focus on the wife's feelings, too.
Ianneth ("bridge-woman") is one of the Northern Sindar, from the community that lives around Lake Mithrim. She's the daughter of Annael (yes, that Annael), whom I've imagined to be one of the more influential leaders among the Northern Sindar, and particularly among the Elves of Mithrim.
Her betrothal to Fingon starts as a political arrangement. Fingolfin loves Fingon dearly, of course, but he's also been hinting for a while now that Fingon really needs to settle down and start having kids so that there will be a strong line of heirs should Fingolfin die. After all, Argon's dead, and Turgon and Aredhel abruptly fucked off to god-knows-where some three hundred years ago and haven't been seen nor heard from since. Your dad needs some grandsons, Fingon, and this also seems like a ripe opportunity to strengthen the Noldor's alliance with the Northern Sindar.
I don't think political marriage is unknown among the Elves of Beleriand. (For one example in the text, see Celegorm trying to marry Luthien to force Doriath into an alliance.) And the quote I drew the title of the aforementioned Fingon/Ianneth story from, also found in "Laws and Customs Among the Eldar," is:
The Eldar wedded only once in life, and for love or at the least by free will upon either part.
Free will could easily mean, "Are we in love? No. But I'll still marry you, for the good of our peoples, and I'll bring some of Dad's soldiers along with me." That sort of thing happened all the time among real-world nobility, so I see no reason why it can't happen among Elven nobility in Beleriand, too.
At any rate, Fingolfin arranges for Fingon to meet the daughters of some of the more powerful leaders of the Northern Sindar, and he's hint-hint-hinting that Fingon really needs to pick one of them to be his wife. Fingon, having been in love with Maedhros since they were young in Valinor, is not exactly keen on this plan. But he goes along with it anyway because he is a dutiful son, he knows that his father is right about needing to strengthen the line of succession, and he also knows that revealing his (quite taboo!) relationship with Maedhros to his father would probably break Fingolfin's heart.
It takes Fingon a while to decide who to court, but he picks Ianneth because he likes her sense of humor; she has the guts to gently tease him at their first meeting, which he finds quite charming. He doesn't think he can love anyone besides Maedhros, but he does look at Ianneth and think, "This is a woman I could grow to care for and whose companionship I think could enjoy."
The trouble begins when, over the course of their courtship, Fingon starts falling in love with Ianneth without falling out of love with Maedhros. And he doesn't know what to do about this. He can't call off the marriage, and he doesn't want to break things off with Maedhros, so he decides to just...keep the whole thing with Maedhros a secret and marry Ianneth anyway. It's not a good decision, but really, are there any options here that won't end with someone getting hurt? I don't think so.
So we have Ianneth, blissfully ignorant of her husband's infidelity (for now); Fingon, in love with two people at once and feeling horribly guilty about it, but unwilling to pick one partner over the other; and Maedhros, resigned to the situation but still hurting because Fingon is no longer his alone.
Maedhros' feelings are complicated by the fact that, once he meets her, he finds that likes Ianneth. It would be easier, he thinks, if he could write her off as just a political necessity for Fingon, but it turns out that she's charming and intelligent and kind, and he can understand why Fingon loves her. His feelings soften further once Ereiniel is born, because Fingon is so happy being a father, and he loves Fingon, so how can he begrudge him that? There's a line from "Famous Blue Raincoat" by Leonard Cohen that I always think of when I'm getting into Maedhros' head at this point:
And thanks for the trouble you took from [his] eyes. I thought it was there for good, so I never tried.
Things tick along about as smoothly as they can for thirteen years, until, in the aftermath of Fingolfin's death during the Dagor Bragollach, as Fingon prepares to send Ianneth and Ereiniel to the Falas for their safety, Ianneth learns his secret. This is understandably devastating for her, and leaves her wondering if Fingon ever really loved her as she loved him, or if his marriage to her was simply a politically expedient sham.
Add to that the fact that she leaves for the Falas less than ten hours after this revelation and spends most of that ten hours either crying or asleep, as she's too upset to really talk to Fingon about what she's discovered, and it leaves her with this horrible knowledge and all the worst thoughts that come from it gnawing at her nearly a full year until Fingon next comes to Eglarest -- time that she spends as the sole caregiver for her young daughter, among strangers in a foreign city, without her mother or her sister or any of her friends who might have theoretically been able to offer her some emotional support.
Theoretically is a key word there, though, because even if, say, her sister had come to Eglarest, Ianneth isn't sure she'd even be able to tell her. For one thing, she can't help feeling ashamed, because infidelity is very rare among Elves, and she can't help thinking that maybe she failed as a wife somehow, and if she'd done something different, Fingon wouldn't have strayed. Then there's the fact that he's the High King of the Noldor, and if this gets out it could cause a crisis in the Noldorin government and possibly tank the alliance between the House of Fingolfin and the Northern Sindar. Ianneth is a practical woman, and she's of the Northern Sindar -- the people who have been living practically on Morgoth's doorstep for centuries, with no Maia queen's magic girdle to protect them. Their alliance with the Noldor is vital, and she would never want to jeopardize it.
So Ianneth is just...completely alone with this pain. She has no one to turn to, no one who can comfort her. And that pain is central to her story, and a not insignificant part of Ereiniel's story, too.

So. Um. @fluffsoo
I have once again demonstrated that I do not know how to use this app and accidentally deleted your ask while trying to edit my answer in my drafts.
I apologize.
BUT. I am here to quench your thirst for a Porter analysis because DAMN I've been meaning to write this for a while.
Cut for length!
So I really like Porter. He's ambiguous, but without it being too pretentious, and I am OBSESSED with the implications about William that he's been raising. I'll definitely talk about the latter thing more at a later date, but in this post, I want to focus on his ambiguity; namely, his history in regards to the audios he's mentioned in and what that did/does for his character.
Let's break down this man's character introduction. First, we get that post-credits-esk scene with Sam, where it's first revealed that Porter and Vincent had a fight. Because of this, in his first audio (a BA lol), a lot of people were wary about him -- especially given that the scene was similar to what Ivan had described when he kidnapped Baby 2.0. This, if it was deliberate on Erik's part, is absolutely genius.
Looking first at the Sam text message scene, when we hear that this new character had a fight with Vincent, the first character on the channel, it immediately casts doubt on the new character's, well, character. It's a "devil that you know" type situation; because the listener is more familiar with Vincent, they are more likely to side with him against this unknown guy. Having Sam deliver this news is such a good choice as well. It's a third-party perspective -- his reaction isn't charged with a personal experience, leaving a world of possibilities about what this "Porter" could be like.
The seed of doubt only begins to grow further when the listener is actually introduced to Porter. As I said before, the beginning of the BA is very similar to the situation that led to Baby 2.0's kidnapping. We were already wary, and now this man has parallels to one of the most intense characters on the channel? It paints him in a bad light before he even does anything to merit it. And then what does he do? Absolutely nothing.
Well, I mean, he definitely did something in that BA if you know what I mean, but he doesn't do anything bad. In fact, he's rather charming and even cares for Treasure after the fact. Like, imagine having an amazing hook-up in the woods, and then the other person takes you to this crazy fancy house to wash up, and then they trust you enough to not wipe your memory even when that's the protocol for situations like this (well, as far as we know, but I won't get into that). He does nothing that indicates that he's a terrible person, and yet...
He fought with Vincent, and according to Sam, it was pretty bad. That's the thing, though, at that point, the only accounts we had about Vincent's backstory were from Vincent himself. There's an inherent bias there, and that bias had been transferred to the listener as well, to the point where the second it's revealed that someone fought Vincent, the first reaction is that this other person is the bad one. So, we go into Porter's audio with Treasure with that mindset and leave feeling.. confused.
This? This is the guy who grappled with Vincent until they nearly killed each other? Sure, he's enigmatic and raising a few questions, but he doesn't seem dangerous. At least, that was my first reaction. And I think that an introduction like this suits his character as we know it now perfectly.
Porter has continued to be a wild card. He seems so carefree and "go-with-the-flow," and yet he's bound in his loyalty to William. Every question he answers only brings up more, and he never really makes the bigger picture clearer than before. Some things he does intentionally, serving some kind of goal, while others (like telling Vincent that he was inviting Treasure) are just for shits and giggles. Because of this, it is near impossible to tell for sure if what he's doing or saying is important or not. It's like the evolution of the "villan or good guy?" question from his first introduction.
ALSO that villan question? Due to what has been revealed about Porter, the "villan or good guy?" conundrum has shifted off of him and onto William. The answer for Porter, at least at this point, isn't a villain or a good guy. He's a servant to William. So, that begs the question: Is William really a good person?
I'm gonna stop it there before this gets too long. In all honesty, a lot of my Porter thoughts are less "analysis" and more "theories" because there aren't many audios to analyze. I would be more than happy to theory-craft at a later date, though. There are SO many connections I could draw to past audios based on information we have now it's insane.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed my ramblings! And sorry again about accidentally deleting the ask! I'll get to the rest of them throughout the week (I am so pumped to do the one about Sunshine you have no idea). This was a really nice de-stress after finals :D

Hello! Anon from before! Comment you say comment you get! I was positively swiped out from the ground with the whole fic, but this chapter? *Chefs kiss* The plot twist with Moon knowing language better than we thought is a really nice touch, I plan on rereading the fic with this new perspective in mind! I didn't really thought about the fact that Sun could use English much better. I just thought their skills are different there but nope. Moon is just a little drama queen. I love that you included "healthy relationship" beetwen Moon and Y/n, when they found out he can talk they were slightly irritated by it and expressed that but almost imidiatly (now they are sure he will understand complicated sentences) explains the situation and what they are feeling. Because ladies and gentlemen communication is the key 👏 👏 👏 Moon expressing himself with his thoughts about reader seeing him as a dumb animal or trying to tame him is also a nice touch that isn't really used in other fics I've read, If some alien thing appeared near my house and started trying to teach me to speak or to do some tricks I would be also offended. The no bullshit attitude is mu h needed fuck the little misunderstandings let's talk openly like a good couple fishman.
I also love the fact that even that y/n now can communicate with Moon and wants to get to know him they are still pretty cautious. As they explained its not easy to overcome first impressions especially when there have been their lives on the plate(in their eyes). I would love to see them warming up to each other! Which is already happening and I think it's so so cute they are both trying really hard to make it work.
The romance is just pure gold. I was squeaking with the whole bracelet thing. My man Moon got send to his namesake I'm sure he was seeing his kids with y/n get away to fish college at this moment keke. It's very cute that y/n regifted something as precious as shell to him. I am assuming the shell that he made himself and spend lots of time on is some courting proposal. So him getting something crafted with equal effort by his Brat will give him ideas. Good. We want more. I think you are great at creating tension and writing some really cute fluffy moments, as well as the more intimate ones. I love how you write y/n her personality, and reasoning. You created a great character that despite some strong character its still pretty easy to put yourself in their shoes.
The fact that Moon noticed marks after webbing on y/n hands is also interesting. I wonder what he thinks right now and what will he do with that information. Also I am hoping he didn't misunderstood that Sun was the one to rip them out. Coz when he asked of the reason they are gone we just started blabbering about the yellow mermaid and that they didn't really mean it .
I'm very curious about Sun and Moon relationship, for sure it's not bad as Moon said himself ,, he is mine,, ,,my Sun". It's intriguing what they are to each other. I feel bad for the guy he a little lonely boy with too much energy that gets into your personal bubble but he means well. I hope we will get to meet him officaly soon and that Moon after learning about our meeting will put some information about his human friend into his Sun so he will know better than to almost drown them hahah.
I really enjoyed the way you pictured Glamrocks and I was shocked when you said you are not very skilled in writing them. The dialogues for each of them works really well and you kept their personalities just perfect in my eyes. I was mesmerised how smoothly I went through this chapter and how many emotions it got from me. The dynamic in the team is great and they just appeared and with small nudges and small talks from you we can already tell or at least predict so much about them.
Of course we can't forget about Vanessa, she would never let us forget. But what amazes me is how you were able to create such a mixed feelings towards this character in me. I am a first person to throw someone into the jerk category fast but with her I keep changing my mind. She is very well written, annoying but you can sometimes see a little bit of the other side. There is clearly something wrong with her, with her hallucinations and paranoia. Also the fear of mer might play the role here with the big bad trap boi. As much as I want to showe her head into a grinder every second she appears I also get amused, such an interesting character. And this is all thanks to you those types are very hard to write. It only shows how big of a talent you posses.
I very much enjoy the relationship beetwen y/n and Bon Bon. Little siblings that bicker with each other all the time but when one of them shows up with dead man in the middle of the night they will help them dug the grave hahaha The personality you gave him is astonishing and enduring. I didn't read a lot about Bon Bon but know your version of him is my headcanon and lives rent free in my head haha. The little soft moments with reader that ends up in jesting are really heart-warming.
I am also very curious about Monty. Can he communicate with mers? I have a feeling some yellow fella got pretty excited that there is some possible friend nearby. Ahh I love Sun so much I want to cuddle him. All he wants is snuggles but all he gets is struggles.
The length of the chapter is a blessing I needed some good stuff to relax into and let my mind flow which you were able to provide so thank you. I mean it with my heart when I say you are very talented. This fic is well organised, with a good balance of all aspects that keeps you entertained. From the beginning I didn't skip any paragraph (which I admit is my sinful behaviour where something in the fic bores me ) and even rereaded to whole thing in the matter of days. I couldn't keep myself away trying to find something I might have missed amd relived the events once again. I love your version of the boys, the Moon being the first to open up and fall for reader is a nice change (where in most fics he is the one more cautious). I fell in love with him and his behaviour a big teasing, lovesick softy. It must have shocked him when reader's antena went missing haha.
Your addictions at the end of the chapters are so cute and bring me so much joy. I love your little ,,memes" and that sometimes it gives us the glimpse of others perspective. I can't recall which but some of your jokes from previous chapters got me laughing so hard. And stayed in my head that at the random moment hours later I would start chuckling. So thank you for that. Thank you for creating this fic and keeping working on it. I can say it's one of my favourites and we are only on the 10 chapter! This chapter was a blast that i will have to reread soon. Can't wait to see more of your great ideas. Keep up the good work and don't forget you are amazing ❤❤❤

this has to be the most rewarding and thoughtful message i have ever received aaaauuuuu😭💗💗💗 i don't even know what to say!! i keep rereading over and over. you've taken note of a bunch of stuff i was rly hoping people would appreciate. the glamrocks especially, i worked so hard on their dialogue and flow, and the other side to Vanessa beyond the antagonism! i think every time i feel down or hesitant about my writing, i'll revisit this lovely comment, thank you thank you thank you!✨🌈❤️

My Response to Watcher's Apology
Yesterday, Watcher released an apology video regarding their decision to move all their content to a new streaming service which most people cant afford even at 6 dollars a month. And personally speaking, I was pretty satisfied with it. I couldnt see them scrapping the streaming service idea entirely because its definetly too late in the game to do that, but they comprise on certian, like having episodes come out on Watcher the service, releasing onto Youtube much later, and having Patreon backers use the service for free (which I didnt know was not a thing for Patreon backers initially which is kind of alarming). I'd say overall, they did a good job with their apology. At least in my opinion. Im pretty sure others might look at it differently or maybe Im probably for forgiving people for who do bad things and thus more likely to be at the receiving end of a toxic friendship/relationship in the future......
I will say though, this whole situation has made going to back their old content (from Watcher and Buzzfeed) a lot more awkward. Its one of those things where a creator you like does something bad and watching content made before they did the bad thing wrong, and you cant separate the art from the artist because you liked their content for them mostly. Its kind of like when I rewatched old Achievement Hunter stuff right when the Ryan Haywood drama happened. Granted, what Watcher did was far tamer than that scenario. But its still bad, and portrays the guys in a negative light. Some people I've seen who've covered this, from Sensative Society to Jacksfilms (who released a parody of their apology literally within a couple of hours of the upload which I wont ever find not funny) have portrayed them as greedy for this move, and as someone who could view this from the perspective of an outsider, I can understand that. But like I had mentioned in my original post, I sympathized with why they felt like Youtube wasnt for them, but (like I said) this was the worst solution to that quandary they could've made. Speaking of commentators, I've also been avoiding that type of content just because how negatively effected by this whole drama. The fact this happened right around the time I was on a Buzzfeed Unsolved binge didn't help. This whole thing has made me so upset that I've just been avoiding sort of content revolving Watcher or Buzzfeed Unsolved period. I dont really know what else to say here, this whole thing sucks and I wish it never happened.
However, I think this is a feeling that will change, as time goes by and people move on from this drama. I think that Watcher will be able to bounce after this whole thing dies down, especially because this is not as bad as Ryan Bergara diddling a kid or Shane Madej........idk awakening into his demon form or something. But, I think this will be something that will haunt them going forward pretty much since the bad things you do online will stay online......forever

Just a thought, but like you should totally talk about how much you love irateshipping.
I lvoe it so much you guys my thoughts are sometimes easy to figure out and sometimes they're just kind of a blurry static field of warmth but i'll try my best.
As a side note, this got. Uh. Long. So it's under a cut now.
Okay so the first thing I adore about it is that it can really easily switch between a kind of funny domestic dynamic with two teenagers who don't know how to make emotions work and also can be “fucked up traumatized dudes try to kill each other with a gun.” That part is great for me.
Second of all, I talk a lot about like mariks perspective on the whole thing but I don’t know if I talk about Joey's perspective on the whole thing where like... Marik is objectively everything he hates. He's controlling, he's wealthy, he's narcissistic, he's like kaiba if kaiba was somehow worse and had nicer hair <- whoa who said that? Yet he still possesses a kind of inherent charm that ends up pulling you in closer and sort of forces Joey to have some kind of feeling about him, whether that be hatred or love or just "Wow! What a Freak".
I like to picture (read: there's no canon evidence for it, but a man can fantasize) that there's kind of a... weird attraction to Marik, especially with the brainwashing in a "i don't have to think anymore" way. Like, uh how do I explain this; Joey is used to having to work all the time to support himself and his family.
He goes for 7 straight hours at school doing work he doesn't understand with teachers that hate him, around friends that love him (and he loves back!) but always seem to overshadow him and, at least in canon, don't seem to quite 'get' the situation he's in at home, plus, you know, Yugi + Atem always overshadowing with the one big hobby he has. Then he goes back home, gets yelled at by his dad and has to play tip-toe around him (or, at least, I'd assume so), then hauls ass out to go work until 9:00, buy cheap dinner, then collapses and wakes up at 6:30 the next morning to go work again before going to school again. He's burning out 24/7. First man to ever desperately need a workers union for the simple act of existing.
But then Marik comes along with the Ghouls, and gets to say, you don't need to think anymore. You don't have to worry anymore. All the decisions are made for you. And it's never explicitly stated (probably because it would be a lie lmao) but in Joey's head this also has a connotation of you're finally safe. And you know what? To Joey, that's kind of blissful. No thinking. No more worrying. Just sort of... existing.
Of course, he hates it too, obviously. It's sickening to feel yourself be puppeted like that, out of your own control, forced to fight the people you love, etc. So we can't be having that. But there is still a certain bond thats formed by having someone inside your mind, and it goes both ways; not only is Joey dealing with the feeling of having all his brains pried open and picked apart like stir-fry, but Marik also now knows everything that happens in Joey's head. What's that even like??? Does it make him feel bad for Joey? Is he attracted to it? Does it just make him think Joey is stupid? Does he feel a sense of responsibility to maybe try and fix some of those problems when he becomes a Good Person? Is he now like the Expert on how Joey's brain works and has to decide how to use (or abuse) that knowledge?
Post-Battle City, I think they have a very awkward relationship. In canon they seem friendly, but imo thats kind of a cover-up for the awkwardness, because what else are they supposed to say to each other? "Hey, again, guy who brainwashed me and saw the innermost depths of my mind!" "I told you I don't do that anymore :(" type stuff. If you put them in a room alone, it'd just be like. An hour straight of pure silence, occasionally interrupted by asking where the bathroom is and conversations that go like "well uh how's life been?" "Not great." "ah. okay. cool. Cool."
At least imo Joey doesn't actually realize what he has are romantic feelings. In his mind, this weird sweatiness he feels and inability to put Marik out of his mind is probably a side effect of brainwashing or something. Marik does though. Marik is pretty much permanently looking at Joey like he wants to eat him alive or, perhaps more scandalously in his mind, hold his hand.
Also... This is a different conversation but I think marik is like - Jealous? Approving? Something like that- of joey. Not in a “I want to be an impoverished delinquent bad boy who breaks the rules” way but more in a “see, this is what I Should Have Been. The loyal son that sticks by his father no matter what.” And in one hand he doesn’t particularly care for Joeys father (finds him classless and unappreciative) and, on a surface level, recognizes that their situations are very Very different, but the jealousy remains. Like. That should be me trying up there.
Because both Marik and Joey have the same specific form of daddy issues where they wholeheartedly believe that they are the problem here, so if they just go the Right Chance they could fix everything with their parents and could live happily ever after. So they end up in an endless feedback loop of (nodding) "yes, he's doing the right thing by trying to make it up to his dad" and don't get why their friends are all like "please go talk to like. Someone else about this. Anyone."
I do think they have potential to actually help each other out with this type of stuff as they mature and are able to also recognize the affect that it has on the other ("You go deer-in-the-headlights whenever you're around open fire"/"you start cringing uncontrollably whenever someone throws anything at you") but also Not Right Now! right now they're not even talking to each other.
Anyways. Yeah. God. I'm in love with them in case you couldn't tell. I don't even know if this makes sense to anyone else other than me but I'm having fun and thats what matters mostly
Also yeah sometimes its that marik just wants to date a stupid jock and hes so real for that. Let marik have a good boyfriend and psychologically torment joey more 2k24 campaign.
Anyways enjoy a Collection (of scenes where they are in the same panel)(*devours my rarepair scraps*)

Eggman’s Motivations and Clarifications
This might be something everyone already knows in the Sonic Frontiers fandom but can we just talk about the implications of the Egg Memos where Eggman talks about Maria?
“All that love for someone already gone when I was right there!”
Not only does this seem to imply that Eggman grew up in a family that had been holding onto Maria’s loss but he felt jealous of the love that everyone had for her.
When you consider Eggman’s goals of wanting to rule over everything and to have everyone know his name- it could imply that Eggman was (probably unintentionally) emotionally neglected because everyone was so focused on Maria and her loss.
And when he starts to open up to the idea of fatherhood to Sage and even comparing her to Maria it’s almost like he’s trying to seek out that connection he never had while also fulfilling a relationship he never received growing up.
Then there’s Sonic Adventure 2 where it’s revealed that Eggman looked up to Gerald who was either in prison or already dead by this point. Considering Eggman sees Gerald as the only other person who could understand his love of machines and technology (even though Gerald is a criminal or already dead at this point) might give the theory that Eggman’s home life wasn’t great if he saw Gerald as his hero.
So we have Robotnik as a child not understanding the impact grief can have on people and taking their mourning process personally (as of they’re talking about her specifically to ignore him) but you also have parents or family members that had been holding onto their grief for so long that they’re neglecting their child. Just a bad situation for everyone involved.
It’s no wonder that when Eggman started to open up to seeing Sage as his child that he’d begin to wonder about Maria’s impact on his life. Because now he can understand their loss and put himself in their position. If Sage is anything like Maria then he can understand why his family held onto their grief for so long… and unfortunately he later experiences the same loss when Sage sacrifices herself to save him.
It’s interesting to think about. One sentence gives more to why Eggman is a villain than anything in the games. Of course he wants power and to take over the world but we never really got to see why that is the case.
This game with that one sentence shows that Eggman is a complicated guy who was born into a family still mourning the loss of another child and because of those circumstances he felt like no one appreciated him and felt like he was under the shadow of Maria’s legacy. But if he took over the world… if he made the EggmanLand theme park… everyone will know his name! Everyone will see his accomplishments! No one will ever ignore him again!
And yet… when he met Sage his perspective of how is family treated him shifts. He is at least contemplating his growing attachment to Sage with the love his family had for Maria. And right when he was starting to really accept Sage as a daughter and gain a familial connection he may have not known he wanted… she dies. And he is alone once again.
Now he is desperate to have what he didn’t know he needed. Did you see that manic grin Eggman had when he brought Sage back in the final cutscene? How relieved he sounded, almost close to crying, when he said, “That’s my girl…” He now knows what he’s been missing- a real connection with someone he can call family and now that he brought Sage back there’s nothing anyone can do to take that away again. Now when he takes over the world it will be for her sake. Father and daughter together to rule over the world for all time and to have fun in EggmanLand whenever they want!
Sonic Frontiers gave Eggman a backstory, a clarification on his motivations, and some actual consistent nuance to his character all from one sentence hidden in a fishing mini-game.
I love it so much!

very random sentimental post but since it’s supernatural day and whatever I figured it was owed or something. its 3am so this may not be very well said also.
cw brief mention of suicide/suicidal ideation
supernatural is not a show that can be cased as objectively good or objectively bad. it has high rises and concrete-crack falls as a result. It’s a show. I don’t have to elaborate on that, you guys know what I’m saying. but when it’s good, it’s good, and sometimes it’s so good that it can unfortunately impact your life in a positive way forever, which is what I wanna talk about here m. I began watching spn in 2014 when I was ten years old. my brother used to watch it and suggested it to me when I was like 8-9 since we both shared an interest in scary things. my parents had recently divorced and I was recently experiencing the first and biggest uprooting of my life as I knew it (as an autistic person I am not very good with changes — unless I’m made aware of them and given time to adjust on every level, which was not the case for the divorce).
I was in a new house, a new neighborhood and in public school for the first time ever (formerly cyber schooled until 4th grade). I was maladjusting to say the least, and needed something to escape into. that one show my brother suggested to me happened to be it, and it worked. spn kept me grounded. I watched it on the bus, after school, after me and my sister were tucked into bed, etc. It was my everything. i didn’t realize it until recently that it had become a special interest. and i was never fully suicidal, but I had ideations or at least considerations of it in the vaguest sense that my 10yo brain had of it. but watching sam and dean struggle through the absolute worst and to hear dean say they’d always keep fighting, that was something I could live for. knowing that they could brave situations m far worse than my situation, even fictional, meant the world to me.
It gave me hope that I could get through it. alongside that, I was raised Christian and always questioned the logic of it all (autism jumpscare). while not exactly traumatized by religion or raised strictly with it, I still have a complicated relationship with it to this day (and a special interest in theology now so yay me). basically, spn helped me realize that I was agnostic. the way its main heroes were so deeply flawed enough to become villains and still come back, the (imo) unique perspective in which angels were corrupt and demons could be good guys, all of that allowed me to see past the rigid binary Christianity often perpetuates and discover such a rich and interesting perspective for a story. Moral grayness is not something that’s very well defined in media as of late I feel, but I’ll stop there before I start somewhere else.
overall it’s just been a series that’s been there. it’s a special interest. It’s opened up my life in so many little ways. my other interests, my favorite music, and a handful of my own original stories and characters are deeply inspired by it. I’ve met so many friends and even a partner through it. I started it when I was 10, in 2014. I’m 19 now and the year is 2023. I’ll be turning 20 in February. it’ll have been almost a decade of having supernatural in my life, for better and for worse, and for all its high rises and concrete cracking falls, I’m glad to have it. As I’m glad to have everything that it wound up giving me.
thanks supernatural for ruining my life 🫶🫶

Miscellaneous post-s5 Sopranos thoughts
This is just a selection of the stuff I wrote in my journal this season.
Adriana La Cerva suffered more than Jesus.
One of my favorite things to think about in any TV show is character parallels, and The Sopranos is fantastic on that front, yet for all the time I’ve spent thinking about which Sopranos characters parallel each other, somehow it took five whole seasons for me to notice what now seems like one of the most obvious pairs: Silvio and Melfi! They’re both Tony’s confidants and his two main advisers. Melfi is kind of his emotional consigliere, and Silvio is his…business therapist? What I’m trying to say is that they complement each other in their roles in Tony’s life, and that was (finally) extremely clear in “All Due Respect.” Despite looking at Tony from such different perspectives, they give him essentially the same advice about the Tony B. situation. They both conclude that Tony S. is using noble rhetoric of love and loyalty to mask what’s really motivating him. For Silvio, that motivation is “pride” and “a problem with authority,” and for Melfi, it’s “guilt and shame” (I suspect they’re both right to some degree, though I also think they’re both being unfair by implying that noble motives and selfish ones are mutually exclusive—come on, guys, he contains multitudes!) but they agree that to make the right decision, Tony needs to be honest with himself.
Another interesting parallel: in “Long Term Parking,” Christopher essentially does to Adriana the same thing he’s mad at Tony for doing to him. He “gave [Tony S.] pieces of [his] soul,” yet Tony S. favors the loose cannon Tony B. over him. Well, Adriana gave Christopher pretty much her entire soul, yet Christopher chooses the ungrateful Tony S. over her. The difference, of course, is that Tony S.’s choice (pre-“All Due Respect”) only costs Christopher his position, while Chris’s choice costs Adriana her life. And Adriana died knowing that Christopher had chosen Tony over her, his ride-or-die. With an emphasis on the “die,” I guess. At least Pussy had some comfort in his final moments. Adriana had none.
In “Sentimental Education,” Carmela’s relationship with Wegler failed because she tried to treat it as a transactional arrangement (well, and also because he was a pretentious misogynist). In “Long Term Parking,” it’s a transaction that brings Carmela and Tony back together. I’ve seen some people paint her relationship with Wegler as pure conniving on her part, but I don’t think that’s fair. It’s clearly how she’s used to relationships working.
In that same episode, I was SO proud of Carmela for starting to wake up to the absurdity of some of the things the Catholic church has taught her.
I’m glad Carmela and Tony are back together if only because it was so painful to see how utterly alone she was during the separation. The suffocating feeling I got from watching her try to escape her awful husband’s clutches while also being vilified by her son was reminiscent of the feeling I got watching Breaking Bad, except worse, because Walter Jr. was never as vicious to Skyler as Anthony Jr. is to Carmela.
I’m generally a Meadow apologist, but she had some unbearable moments this season, especially in “Unidentified Black Males.” The drama with Finn was frustrating (and to be fair, Finn could probably have handled it better, too, but Meadow was worse), but the worst part, IMO, was what she said to Carmela: “Haven't you thought beyond being dependent on a man?” Girl that is LITERALLY WHAT SHE’S TRYING TO DO NOW. Going back to the topic of Carmela’s isolation, it’s maddening that both her “progressive” daughter and her not-even-pretending-to-be-progressive husband essentially blame her for not being able to take care of herself, while also refusing to give her credit for trying to finally carve out an independent existence.
On that topic, this season continues the theme of what I call the obstacle of expectations: the fact that change is far harder when it seems that no one around you believes that you can change. (Which is not to say that this skepticism is always unearned.) Carmela tries to have a relationship with a normal guy, but concludes that “because [she] was married to a man like Tony, [her] motives will always be called into question.” Tony greatly impresses Melfi by not hooking up with Adriana (side note, it was really sweet how proud Melfi was of him), but he’s widely believed to have done so nonetheless, so he concludes, “I might as well have fucked her.” Then he says a sarcastic “thanks” to Melfi, the one person who consistently believes in his ability to change even after all he’s put her through, as if she’s the problem. Christopher literally says that “Tony don’t believe a person can change” and is therefore holding his past as an addict against him; in the following episode, when the Tonys are making jokes at his expense, Chris, in a moment of genuinely impressive maturity, says, “Sobriety's hard enough without having to get mocked for it.” All of Janice’s work in anger management is undone in a matter of seconds by her brother deliberately trying to undo it. Tony B. justifiably complains about the stigma of being an ex-con, although he’s a complicated case because he backslides into criminality at a moment when no one is being prejudiced towards him.
On that note, I never quite felt like I got Tony B. as a character. For example, I couldn’t really make sense of why he backslid so dramatically in “Sentimental Education.” I enjoyed him nonetheless, although a large part of that is surely due to the fact that it’s basically impossible not to enjoy Steve Buscemi.
This post is getting enormous so I won’t go into detail about this, but the stories people tell—about themselves and about others, to themselves and to others—stood out as a huge theme this season. Excellent! Very Black Sails!
“The Test Dream” was so much fun. More shows should do episodes that let them bring back legions of dead characters.
Have I mentioned how much I love Melfi? No I haven’t because it’s beyond the capacity of human language to express. This season she was in 62% of the episodes (8/13). Next season she’s in 71% of the episodes (15/21), which is an improvement. I think she should be in a million percent of the episodes, but I’m also grateful that she’s ever been on my screen for even a single second.

can we....can we hear a little bit more about Sig? 👀
CAN you! absolutely!
first of all, it has to be said, i was not thinking about the fact that loki's mythological wife's name is sigyn when i named this guy sig, i just did what i did for all of my asgardian OCs and looked through a list of norse names until i spotted one that felt like it fit. also my childhood crush on sig from the jak and daxter games may have had something to do with it shh
ANYWAY. sig is my obligatory "regular asgardian citizen" viewpoint that we don't really get if we're always focusing on thor, loki, val, or heimdall. any of the asgardians are many times stronger than the average human, but he doesn't have magic like thor and loki do, and he doesn't have centuries of training like val does. he DOES have centuries of smithing behind him, so like, he's not a twig, but until ragnarok he'd never really seen any serious battles, and he'd certainly never killed anyone - that marauder he killed with loki's sword was the first. he's gonna get through that with minimal angst though, because asgardians have different perspectives when it comes to killing in battle, and also because he's got his daughter to worry about, so there's bigger fish to fry. like, this man will try to 1-v-1 against the collector if given the opportunity and if his daughter's in danger. asgardians are brave idiots and he is no exception, and also, after ragnarok, runa is literally all he has left
so like, sig is a dad above all else. he's a nurturing kind of person, he's really good at talking to people and kind of coaxing them out of their shells (hence his first interaction with bruce) and he's sort of taken it upon himself to look after runa's friends, since their parents didn't make it through ragnarok. he's not the only person caring for runa's friends, since asgard has sort of by necessity become more of a communal situation where there's a lot of childless parents and parentless children, but he's always keeping an eye out for them (when he's not light-years away being dragged on an adventure to save his daughter from an infinity stone and a bunch of bounty hunters and a superpowerful megalomaniac, anyway)
as far as his relationship with the revengers: he sort of implicitly trusts thor, because that's asgard's golden boy and everyone is sort of in agreement that they'd all be dead if thor hadn't shown up in a blaze of lightning and fought hela off while they escaped. he VERY implicitly trusts heimdall, and honestly no one on that ship doesn't after he kept them all safe during hela's attacks. he's a little starstruck about val but manages to be cool about it, and he loves that there's an honest-to-god valkyrie on the ship with them, because it certainly makes their precarious situation feel a bit safer. bruce, he's immediately bonded with and now considers a friend. and loki... okay so it helps if you know that my headcanon is that all the asgardians knew or at least suspected that it was loki posing as odin that entire time, they just didn't care because there were no wars going on and he wasn't actually doing a bad job as odin, so they just sort of... let him get away with it?
so, you're sig. your planet's been destroyed, you're grieving your wife and your home and the rest of your family, you're trying to keep your daughter safe, but now she's been possessed(?) by an infinity stone and the only person who can probably help her is the guy you'd only heard stories about before, who was impersonating the king for a few years and also might have committed some treason at some point, you don't really know the details. but now he's teleporting you and your daughter across the cosmos, and he's definitely saved you and your daughter more than a few times even if he's being kind of standoffish about it, and also he might be suffering from a little infinity stone possession of his own, but shit, you don't know how any of this works, he's the magic guy, but also it's a little concerning that the guy who's supposed to be helping you with your daughter's infinity stone problem also kind of looks like he's got a foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, and his eyes and his veins keep glowing blue which, i mean, that can't be a good sign, can it?
fast forward way past the events of the revengers to avoid spoilers, but i like to imagine that eventually, the little mini-oneshot i posted on tumblr happens (you'll find it under my "revengers: the show" tag if you haven't already seen it) where runa seeks out loki years later and demands to learn magic because the whole infinity stone situation sparked an interest in it, and she wants to know how to do all that stuff he does, and THAT would be the "meticulously crafted 100K of slow burning build up" that i was referring to earlier, where loki's teaching her magic and sig's, like, VERY reluctantly allowing this to happen. because like, yeah, he and loki are cool now, but he's seen how out-of-control magic can get, he's seen how reckless loki in particular can be, and this is his daughter. loki is on thin ice forever as long as runa's involved.
but yeah, that's sig. and you may have seen me mention this before, but i've fancasted him as dev patel from the beginning. it just feels right, and that's who i'm picturing when i'm writing his scenes :)

omg wow. the new chapter wow WOW. WHERE DO I START OMG. jsjdjdjsjs i absolutely want to reread this chapter again after this bc omg the BUILDUP WAS SO INCREDIBLE WOW SO MUCH HAPPENED THIS CHAPTER I HAVE NO WORDS SERIOISLY OMGGGGG
the talk with ichirou and our boy ff is so funny in sm ways holy shiet and i loVED that it was feom ichirous perspective like ff is one incredibly hot mess but only we (and ff and nicky and gs know that of course) but literally everyone else including head of the mafia (or yakuza?) think he is the most competent incredible and coolest person to ever exist like ajdjhdjsjjs
and omg neil <3 we love to see neil eating and being surrounded by the love and family he deserves <3 and im really loving aaron in this fic like ik he was an asshole in the books but u can also sorta understand it and i love how ur portraying him just like idk how to explain it but yas <3 i feel like hes always so overlooked and forgotten so im really glad that he has his moments here (esp love it when hes bickering w the other monsters so it feels so real i luv it)
grandma smith is a gem as always and i find her and kevins relationship so hilarious and cute
the mix of povs was so cool i loved it, the way it flowed & the suspense!!!! so good omg. esp when it finally jumped to ff at the end LMAO GETTING THE REAL INFO!!!!!!!! damn smithy did so well especially him thinking he was talking to the police!!!! like sm could have gone wrong & his thoughts at the end PLS SO FUNNY!! no smithy ur not racist <3 but omg pls hes so cute i love him so so much
i cant wait for the next chapter thank u so much for writing this ahsjdjsjja
Real tears at this comment! This was such a nice thing to wake up to!!!!!!
I keep thinking that when I get around to properly writing this in not draft form (looking at you earlier chapters) I'm going to write some scenes from other character's POV (Grandma's whole 48 hours with the monsters from her POV and FF's POV as he talks to the nice FBI agent Iruma Matsumoto). Writing from Neil's POV inbetween helped me a lot in keeping this chapter from being too heavy. (Also snuck in a bit of the Neil & FF friendship)
Ichirou's POV and like turning the shit that FF WOULD SAY into stuff that Ichirou could misinterpret took me sooo long it's why the chapter came out so much later than I wanted it to (that and I spent most of my weekend building that link tree for the AUs)
Lol I just said this in a conversation I was having on here but YOU READ THAT ONE POST ABOUT NEIL'S GLOW-UP FROM THE BEGINNING OF HIS FRESHMAN YEAR AND YOU NEVER RECOVER. He's still too skinny!
Aaron is one of my favorite characters who does not get used enough IMO. Like he's fucking funny! Yeah he's kind of an asshole Neil's freshman year but like he's a STUDENT ATHLETE in PRE-MED dealing with THE MAFIA. Also I really love writing the Monsters as just like...normal guys. Like it's not all overwrought conversations sometimes it's "No Kevin, putting vanilla protein powder in chicken stock is not 'Like Chicken and Waffles' it's a CRIME."
I do feel bad about how GS is just constantly like dogging him but in a voice that makes him preen but like to be fair.... vanilla protein powder into her sweet grandson's soup.
FF is always worried about the most important things when faced with a situation. Like 'At least it's a beautiful day I can cloud watch as Captain Neil and Andrew murder me.' , 'I hope there's a bathroom in this torture chamber' , 'Oh gross he didn't wash his hands before he left the bathroom to go murder Captain Neil', and 'Oh no I WAS racist and RUDE. Why the fuck didn't I ask for his name BEFORE I had that conversation. GS raised you better!'

I still haven't finished reading the Huedhaut yandere fic but i demand a happy ending where Huedhaut is punished and Reader and Krioff get in a relationship. I NEED IT! You don't know what you have done.
Yandere Huedhaut II~ The Protector
Synopsis: Not long after returning to Huedhaut, your long-time crush, Krioff, finally comes to save you and vows to protect you from any more danger you might be threatened with.
🩸Yandere Masterlist🩸 Female goldfish! Warnings: just a few verbal threats thrown here and there A/n: For a Huedhaut fic, y’all surely turned this into a Krioff fic really quickly. As a matter of fact, this is mostly his perspective. I had no choice. You said “reader and Krioff get into a relationship” and my brain agreed with you in full force. 😚 (I will be adding this to the AO3 as well~)
–Word Count: 4,504–
Krioff was honestly tired of all the drama going on in the Heavens—on Earth too, he couldn't deny. But it was all primarily surrounding Dui. Krioff didn't think Dui was such a bad guy, he just made a few wrong turns in life, not too different from Krioff himself.
But what started as Dui being charged for killing a human, turned out to be nothing other than Dui being framed. But by who? No one found out until you came forward with that information. To make matters more complicated, it turned out the human wasn't even killed by a god. Everything that happened was just a series of freak accidents that you were caught in the middle of thanks to a certain god’s meddling.
Walking through the punishment's hall deep in thought, Krioff couldn't help but pause as he heard his name uttered in a nearby room. He was certain he was being gossiped about again, but he was surprised to hear otherwise… The gossip was actually about you.
“But, (Name) actually liked him… She would have been better off. At least he never would have hurt her like Huedhaut did!”
“That's true, but Huedhaut knew that too. That's why he made (Name) scared of his flames.”
“But Krioff’s flames are nothing like that mess that happened on Earth!” There was a tense pause. “Okay… Maybe they are. But he's more careful than that. Especially with what happened with his sister…”
“Yeah. At least (Name) was able to prove your innocence, though. That was pretty clever of her! It's still too bad she had to pick Huedhaut when Krioff would have- Huh? Krioff?”
The conversation halted there as Krioff found himself the center of attention, the two gods peering out of the room and at Krioff. He sighed, wishing he could have heard more of the situation. Instead, he crossed his arms, trying to appear disinterested as he said, “What? I don't want you dragging me into your shenanigans. I could hear you saying my name from a mile away.”
Dui glanced timidly away from Krioff as he asked, “You heard all that…?”
Krioff watched them, firmly demanding, “Tell me what you were saying about (Name).” He wanted to know what they were saying about him, of course. But hearing your and Huedhaut’s names in the same conversation gave Krioff a bad feeling.
Ichthys hesitantly added, “Well…” He paused for a brief moment before asking, “Are you sure you don’t know anything about how (Name) feels?”
Krioff frowned. “I overheard you two talking. How long has this been going on?”
Dui’s eyes furrowed in confusion. “Partheno told us she was with Karno. So… I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Now that things are getting settled, I think (Name) is going to be fine.” Or maybe that was just optimism speaking. After all, a lot did happen in such a short period of time.
Krioff frowned, and bluntly replied, “That wasn’t my question.” He glanced away, as if a flustered feeling was finally starting to stir in his heart. “How long has (Name)… liked me?” If he had known beforehand… maybe he could have played the role of your knight in shining armor… and not Karno. It was probably too late to do anything, but it wasn’t too late to check up on you.
Dui and Ichthys glanced at each other, feigning innocence before finally getting the motivation to answer Krioff’s question, in the hopes that he might reach out to you. Ichthys answered, “(Name) admitted to liking you before she was ever with Huedhaut. I mean… they were friends, but,” he faltered, “It might’ve saved some time if we’d just told you before…”
Krioff’s brows furrowed in frustration, but it wasn’t because of those two. He was stuck not understanding something. If Huedhaut was the reason for all of this trouble… then why was he still on Earth where you were? Suffice to say, he wasn’t satisfied with the situation.
Dui’s eyes lit up in excitement. “Are you going to go see her? Tell her we said hi!”
Leaning closer, Ichthys added, “And don’t forget to not tell her we snitched! Dui made a promise.”
Krioff shook his head as he walked down the hall, but he agreed nonetheless. “Yeah… whatever.” He had more important things on his mind. Besides, how significant was it where this information came from? What mattered was that Krioff could help you better now. Well… that is if you still wanted his help.
***
The mansion seemed devoid of anyone who knew where you were. You couldn’t have gone home, you didn’t have one. But Dui and Ichthys said you were with Karno, but Karno also wasn’t on Earth to answer his questions just yet. To make matters worse, he could feel his hand heating up as he ended up running into Huedhaut. He didn’t want to ask this god anything… but he was worried about you, and you were more important than any grudge.
“Huedhaut,” he called the god of Aquarius’ name, and while Huedhaut stopped to listen, he didn’t immediately say anything. Krioff was the first to speak in an almost accusing tone, “Where’s (Name)?”
“If that’s why you’re here,” Huedhaut answered slowly, “You’d best return to the Heavens. I’m not in the mood to be entertaining her trauma today.”
Krioff’s eyes narrowed. He knew exactly what Huedhaut was implying… “Where is she?” Surely the only kind of trauma you could have harbored came from Huedhaut himself. So, what was this? A threat?
Huedhaut angled his head, only infuriating Krioff with his haughtiness as he claimed, “(Name) has been traumatized enough by fire. She surely doesn’t need a hot-head like you to run her progress.”
Krioff would ruin your progress? But what kind of progress could you have made with Huedhaut? This didn’t sound good. Glaring harshly at the other god, Krioff finally made the decision to turn and leave. He didn’t need to make a scene. He really had no idea what Huedhaut was talking about, and he was here to help you, not cause you more stress.
But he wasn’t leaving. He couldn’t abandon you again, not when he knew you likely needed help. Rather, he went straight to Leon with an unforgiving glare. “Why did you let Huedhaut take (Name)?”
Leon was rather surprised at the way Krioff was suddenly addressing him, as if this whole thing was his doing. “(Name) went back to Huedhaut herself. That goldfish is just as simple-minded as that oddball goddess was—it’s no wonder Huedhaut was able to manipulate them the way he has.”
Krioff’s brows furrowed in frustration. “And you’re okay with that? You’re okay with your subordinate harming the goldfish that your job is to grant wishes?”
“I’m not,” Leon argued. He might have seemed laid back and relaxed about the entire thing. But truthfully, he was waiting for you to either go to him or make your wishes to be saved, but he got neither of those things. It was all starting to make him look like he was complacent with the behavior of the Wishes Department.
“Then let's do something about it.” Both gods’ gazes flickered to the door of the living room where Karno had just entered, overhearing their conversation. Karno was just thankful someone outside the Wishes Department was demanding action. This meant that you had more support behind you. “We’ve waited long enough, Leo.”
Leon sighed, it was bad enough he was getting ordered around by some lackey from minister ponytail’s department… but now Karno was getting on him for not handling the situation soon enough. But they were both right, and Leon could internally acknowledge that much. At least Leon would look like a hero by taking action now.
Getting to his feet, he finally agreed, “You’re right, my reliable vice minister. But to make sure this doesn’t get any messier than it already is, we’re taking Huedhaut to the Heavens to address his punishment.” He tiredly sighed before reluctantly adding, “We’ll see about getting that kitchen scale involved… Well, let’s go.”
***
The entire situation was baffling, to say the least, when you didn’t seem to understand why Karno and Leon came to take Huedhaut to the Heavens for a punishment. You didn’t seem to comprehend that Huedhaut had done anything wrong at all. Despite how shocked they all seemed to be, Leon immediately blamed Huedhaut for this as well, demanding answers. “Why can’t (Name) remember what you did?”
“But Huedhaut didn’t do anything,” you quietly defended him, making the three opposing gods warily glance over you.
Before anyone could shoot another question or glare his way, Huedhaut simply explained, “She doesn’t remember because she wished it so.” Gesturing to the other end of the room near his bookshelves, there was a glass ball—the very same glass ball that held all of your nightmares. “Ordinarily, I’d have wanted her to keep her memories… and learn from her mistakes. But surely you understand what a soft spot I have for the wishes of my beloved…”
Before Krioff could angrily storm forward and take Huedhaut by the collar of his shirt, Karno immediately stepped forward, trying to mediate the situation as he stood between the volatile gods. “That’s enough,” he commanded. “Huedhaut, you’ll be returning to the Heavens with Leon. I’ll watch (Name).”
Huedhaut knew exactly what was going to happen once he left with Leon… They were going to return her memories to her. But what’s to stop this all from happening again? After all, even when you knew Huedhaut was the reason for your pain, you still ended up going back to him, pleading for things to return to the way they used to be.
The stars in your eyes belonged to him… there was nothing that could keep the two of you apart. So, Huedhuat was confident when he surrendered the glass ball to Karno and allowed himself to be led away by Leon. Though, he didn’t fail to meet your eyes with the promise of a lover, “I’ll return, (Name). There’s no need for you to make that face. Don’t worry… I’ll come back to you.” He offered you a smile.
For the moment, Krioff maintained his silence. He knew that if he were to speak, he’d likely just scare you more than you already were. You were confused, and you had no idea what was going on as far as Huedhuat was concerned.
There was the matter of discussing your memories… Karno would handle that, more than likely, but Krioff first requested, “I want to talk with (Name) before we return her memories… if that’s okay.”
Karno pursed his lips before he nodded. “Of course. Huedhaut isn’t going to be allowed back on Earth, so we can take our time easing her memories back to her. Just… try to be gentle with her; we don’t know how much of her memory is warped.”
Krioff nodded in understanding. This was the reason he wished to speak with you first. He wanted to know if you still remembered your feelings for him… or if those had been completely wiped out by Huedhaut as well.
However, sitting across from you in the living room, things were painfully awkward. There was a lot he wanted to discuss with you—he was desperate to make you feel better—but these things had to be done slowly, for your sake. Collecting his thoughts, Krioff finally broke the silence surrounding the two of you, “You don’t have your memories… But, I gotta ask,” he paused. “Do you still have feelings for me? Or Huedhaut?”
You were clearly taken off guard, refusing to lift your gaze to meet Krioff’s. But, you quietly admitted, “I… did have feelings for you when I first started coming to the mansion often. But, you were such a solitary god, and you were so focused on your work. I felt like it was just a childish crush, so I never said anything. Still, I know I’ve been through a lot, but you don’t have to worry. Ever since Hue took me in, I’ve been happy with him.”
“Except you haven't,” Krioff uncharacteristically snapped, and he winced at how he took his emotions out on you. He knew it wasn’t your fault, he was just pissed with that deceptive wishes god. “He took your memories of what happened. You at least remember what happened with Dui and the others… But Dui was framed. You don’t remember that, do you?”
For your sake, Karno warned, “Let’s not overwhelm her.”
“Those memories will overwhelm her,” he pointed out, suddenly staring at you as if trying to gauge your feelings. You seemed like you were struggling to recall this information that he was telling you. But at least if you had a heads-up, you wouldn’t be as shocked when it finally came back to you. Decidedly, Krioff commented, “After all she did for Dui… She doesn’t deserve this. I’ll handle it.”
“Dui…” Your timid voice met their ears as you hesitantly asked, “Dui didn’t kill my best friend?”
Both gods returned their gazes to you, Krioff reassured, “We’ll give you your memories back, so you can understand what we’re talking about and make a decision for yourself. You don’t have to be manipulated by gods anymore; I won’t allow it, regardless of what decision Leon makes.” He gazed at you with genuine kindness, but in his eyes, you could see how protective he was. He was truly offended by what Huedhaut had seemingly done to you. He continued, “You’re the bravest goldfish I’ve ever known… to stand up to a god like you did. So, personally, I feel like you’re ready. But this is up to you. Are you ready to get your memories back?”
You were scared of the truth… After all, you didn’t want to see Huedhaut as the bad guy, and that’s exactly what they were making him out to be. Still, you couldn’t live on like this with pieces of your memories gone. How else were you supposed to understand why Huedhaut was taken away in the first place? Inhaling deeply, you mentally prepared yourself as you agreed. “Alright… I’m ready.” Your gaze flickered between them. “I’m ready to get my memories back.”
Seeing your bravery masking your uncertainty, Karno offered an encouraging smile, proud of how strong you were. Though, just in case you had any reservations, he offered a warning, “You might pass out for a few minutes, but we’ll be here for you when you wake up. So, please, try not to panic. You’re safe with us.”
Krioff’s eyes were glued to you in concern as Karno snapped his fingers, overwhelming you with the sudden influx of information. Both gods knew it would be a lot for you, but they underestimated what might come out of your mouth once you had the memories you wished to get rid of.
You were pretty desperate to clear your name from them as you explained why your situation was the way it was, “I- I didn’t have a choice,” you stuttered. “It was like he haunted my thoughts… I was so scared that if I didn’t give in, someone else would get hurt.” Your eyes welled with panicked tears as you shouted accusingly at them, “I don’t want anyone else to get hurt because of me! Why… Why did you have to interfere?! Everything was fine…”
“Your heart is kind enough to bleed for everyone…” Karno sorrowfully commented about the situation, “but you neglect yourself in the process. (Name), you need to put yourself first right now. Huedhaut isn’t here to influence anything you do. You need to do what’s best for you.”
“And even if he ever does come back,” Krioff said threateningly, “I’m not letting him near you. I’ll protect you… I’ll protect everyone for you.” He knew you were still scared for the other gods more than you were scared for yourself. This was just one of the reasons his heart ached for you. You were such a selfless human for these gods. But if Krioff could promise to protect you and your friends, then did things have a chance of getting better for you?
You were confused by what he meant by that at first. It took you a moment… but he seemed to share feelings for you… the same feelings you had for him once upon a time… and he had your heart racing with his unshakable promises. “I- I want to stay with you, Krioff,” you whimpered to him. He was offering you his love and his protection and you greedily wanted them.
You couldn’t help but wonder if he had felt this way all this time… With the abundance of feelings in your chest, you couldn’t help but tear up.
Huedhaut was doing this to you all this time, leaving you feeling like you had no place to go and no one to turn to… but Krioff was there. He had been there this whole time. You needed only to reach out to him.
He didn’t know how much you needed him, but now he did, he was not letting you go any time soon. His heart felt warm that you genuinely wanted… needed him. “It’s okay, you’re okay. I’m here for you now.” You had a place to go and someone to turn to. You didn’t need to think that Huedhaut was your only option anymore. “No god will ever hurt you again as long as I’m around.” You had no reason to let him scare you.
“Krioff…” You whispered his name quietly, your voice cracking.
He gazed at you earnestly. There was clearly some fear in your eyes and Krioff knew exactly what it was from as his right hand came up to caress your cheek with his right hand. It was warm… His presence was comforting despite the way he awkwardly promised, “I’ll always protect you… whether it's from my flames or another god. I’ll protect you from anything that makes you uncomfortable.” He was nervous to suddenly have the responsibility of making sure you were okay. But despite that inward fear, it was something he was determined to work on with you. He would do everything he could for you.
***
Before you knew it, days had passed since you had last seen Huedhaut, not that you really minded. After all, you weren’t sure if you’d ever really be ready to see him again.
However, after all these days of thinking and adjusting to your life with Krioff, you had started to consider that maybe Huedhaut was just lost without Clotho… and he took it out on you. Maybe he wasn’t inherently a library monster there to torment you. After all, his love was genuine, wasn’t it? He had done horrible things… for love. He was probably in pain from losing the one person he actually gave up half of his stars for. So, perhaps he was… just a soul trapped in books, wasn’t he? You couldn’t blame him for that, could you?
There was a lot to consider regarding everything that happened to you, and luckily you had caring gods beside you to help you handle all of your emotional baggage.
One day, however, while Krioff was at work, you were faced with another harsh awakening when you ran into Huedhaut in the hall. All of your assumptions were quickly proven wrong when you were met with the blank, unnerving expression on his face as he sneered, “So, you did end up choosing Krioff instead of me. Do you think I gave up everything for you, to be betrayed like this? The audacity of a goldfish is a truly astounding thing. To think you would dare turn your back on a god who loves you more than anything in the universe… You’re so clever, I thought you would have known better. Though I suppose wisdom and intelligence are two different concepts. Still, I thought you’d know better than to go with Krioff.”
“Krioff never manipulated me,” you suddenly argued, surprising him that you had the courage to begin insulting him directly to his face. Though, his expression relayed to you that he simply didn’t care for your whining. “You manipulated me into loving you! My love for Krioff is pure and not built off of my fear and anxiety of the world! I love Krioff because of who he is!”
“Yes,” Huedhaut hissed, refuting your argument, “But Krioff never took care of you. Krioff never stopped to care. Where was he to comfort you after your friend’s death? Where was he when I was protecting you from those flames? Where was he to shelter you when you couldn’t afford your home? I did everything for you; not Krioff!”
It was beginning to be obvious that he was starting to lose his patience with you. This only caused your confusion to grow at an overwhelming rate. Your argument was much weaker this time. “But Krioff-”
“Krioff is the god of destruction,” he interrupted you without mercy. “What can he protect? You’re better off with me. Did I ever mistreat you or hurt you? Did I ever not provide for you? I granted your every wish. And this is how you repay me? You turn your back on me for this? If you thought what happened with Dui was the worst I could conjure, you’re mistaken. I may have forgiven you once, but you’ll regret betraying me.”
You flinched as he suddenly approached you. But, before he could touch your forehead to glimpse into your future once again, Krioff arrived in time to stop him. His arms wrapped protectively around you as flames erupted before you, spreading upward to keep Huedhaut from getting any closer. This momentarily shielded you from Huedhaut for a brief moment; and this was what made you realize that Krioff’s flames were unreservedly there to protect you, not hurt you.
Looking between the two enraged gods, you were scared that they were actually going to break out into a fight because of you. Though, it didn’t seem as though they were going to get that far just yet, when Krioff hissed, “Threaten her again, and I’ll take care of what’s left of those stars in your eyes myself…” Your eyes widened as you watched Krioff unabashedly threaten Huedhaut with no restraint. Despite his harshness, Krioff was soft when he glanced back at you and ushered, “(Name)... go back inside now. I’ll take care of this.”
Of course, you were hesitant to leave his side. You didn’t doubt that he was a strong god, but Huedhaut was a god too, and even if Krioff was strong enough to handle him in a fight, you didn’t want to take the chance of Krioff getting hurt. There was no doubt in your mind that Huedhaut wouldn’t show mercy to a god like Krioff. Inwardly, you prayed for some kind of miracle. “But Krioff…” You quietly uttered, wanting to protect him, but you knew you knew you had no power here.
Fortunately, perhaps thanks to your desperation, gods from the Heavens suddenly showed up as if answering your prayer. One of them frantically shouted, “Lord Krioff! We apologize! He slipped past us!”
Krioff wasn’t pleased with their excuses, but he also didn’t exactly know Huedhaut’s situation. His response would probably vary depending on what they were assigned to do with Huedhaut. Bluntly, Krioff demanded, “Explain.”
“W- Well…” The god faltered under Krioff’s unforgiving glare, as most gods would do under the scrutiny of the god of destruction. “Lord Huedhaut is under what you could consider ‘house arrest’ as his punishment. He was supposed to be doing Wishes work in the Heavens and working to repent for his crimes, but he wasn’t supposed to leave the Heavens.” Their eyes flickered to you before flickering back to the volatile aries god. “We’ll inform Lord Leon and ensure this doesn’t happen again. We’re terribly sorry, Lord Krioff and… miss… reincarnated goddess.” They clearly weren’t sure how to address you, so they settled with that.
However, their apologies and promises weren’t enough to quell Krioff’s fury as he threatened, “It better not! (Name) was almost hurt thanks to your negligence! I won’t be so forgiving a second time…!” That last warning went to both the guards and Huedhaut. Huedhaut was just fortunate someone showed up to save his ass; and those gods were too terrified of a pissed off Krioff to fail a second time.
Krioff watched as Huedhaut was led back into the mansion to be taken back to the Heavens, but he also noticed how shaken up you looked. Without hesitation, he took you back to his room with him, intent on making you feel better after this misadventure of yours.
It was quiet as you sat beside one another on the edge of his bed and he finally asked, “How’re you feeling?”
“I’m… okay,” you hesitantly admitted, “I guess I’m just a little thrown off by the whole thing. I’m really glad you were there. He… said horrible things. Like, he’s going to do something horrible to you; something worse than what he did to Dui!”
He grabbed your hands, making you fall silent as he reassured, “That’s not going to happen. It doesn’t matter who he goes to. I might not have a useful power like Zyglavis’ shadow to watch over you… or one like Dui’s to reassure you when I’m not able to be by your side right away… But Huedhaut can’t do anything else, regardless of what threats he comes up with to scare you. You know Karno won’t let him get away with this… even if Leon doesn’t do anything for Huedhaut’s actions.”
He was sure of that much, he had confidence in his voice, enough to make you believe him. After all, he promised to protect you, and so far, he was standing by his promise. You held on tightly to Krioff who only held you closer in response, his warm hand caressing your back, comforting you. He stayed like that for as long as you wanted. Which, you were honestly hoping he would never let you go as you quietly admitted to him, “I… I really love you, Krioff.”A gentle smile crossed Krioff’s face. “You’re the bravest goldfish I’ve ever met… standing up to gods the way that you do.” He couldn’t help but huff in amusement despite how proud he was of you. “Don’t ever lose that strength; don’t ever surrender it to another god. As long as I’m beside you, you’ll never have anything to fear…” He paused. “But, all the same, if you are ever feeling scared or uncertain, rely on me. I want to be your strength, I want to help you feel safe and certain of yourself. I’ll be here for as long as you need me to support you. But I’ll be here… even when you don’t need me for support. Because I’ll be here to love you, forever.”

Why I’ve been gone? (:
Hi! Hello, I hope everyone is having a good summer and such. This is kinda an update? On my life and such bc I feel bad going ghost all the time.. lol. This is going to be a bit of a rant about some personal issues and stuff, so if you feel like you’re not mentally ready or something to get into other people’s problems, I understand so well and please don’t read, but I hope you have a nice day (; anyway, let me get into it.. cause a lot of stuff happened for me I think, and honestly I don’t know where else to get it out than here lol. So I hope this kinda puts into perspective why I go ghost so much.
So… I sorta just, had a bit of a breakdown and I didn’t show up to any of my exams. And yk, of course I got kicked out of school. I don’t even really mind that much because I REALLY didn’t want to go there anymore lol, but my family was so disappointed. And I had to tell them I just dropped out because they would literally disown me if I said I got kicked out 🤨 so that’s just been, pretty stressful living with all my own lies lol. And it’s totally my own fault too 💀
Anyways, I also just last month got diagnosed with autism and adhd and I kinda did have lt suspicions but it’s just.. it’s a lot honestly, because even though it doesn’t really change anything I feel like I have to live with a diagnosis. I don’t know, but I’m glad I at least got a good explanation for why I do some silly and goofy things sometimes 😀
The last thing I don’t want to get into too much.. because it’s still kinda fresh I suppose? But I really need to get it off my chest soooo 🧍🏻‍♀️But, I got bullied like A LOT in eight grade, very fun yk it really gave me some silly ass self esteem issues but it is what it is. Anyways, two of my really good friends bullied me too then, or at least I felt like they were part of it. But that’s just from my perspective, I kinda got over it because they’re my oldest friends and I feel like stuff went back to normal (a lot of time has passed I’m obviously not in eighth grade no I’m eighteen 😸) but, idk it’s still kinda just a not so nice memory. And I feel like we all apologized to each other and it’s fine and all.. but then I was joking a lot about it because that’s what you do when you don’t wanna process something yk. And they got really really mad at me and said that they never bullied me and that I gaslight them into thinking they did and whatever. And I feel so fucking bad because first off I didn’t even know I did that? I don’t feel like I’m doing that? But uhhh.. idk, maybe I am really tone deaf or something. But the point is that they said I keep playing victim and they did nothing wrong, and I CANNOT handle confrontation so I just apologized a lot? Because I feel terrible? But also.. it felt like I just apologized for getting bullied which like, it has even taken me SO MUCH to admit that I did get bullied. The whole situation just left a sour taste in my mouth cause they were being weirdly defensive and I just.. idk it just suck balls man. After all that, I kinda decided to cut them off. Maybe I am the bad guy here and I’m so fucking sorry, but still, I just don’t think that what they said and did was right either. It sucks losing your oldest friends, it really does. But I’m very lucky to have really kind and supportive friends still, people that really value me and thinks that my thoughts and opinions are valid lol. Idk,,, I’ve just been thinking about this a lot haha 🥸
That was kinda a summary for what I’ve been doing over the summer,,, thank you if you read it, I’m really not asking for pity or anything I just really really really needed to get this off my chest. Because I don’t really confide in ppl bc I’m awkward lmfao.
Anyways, I’ve gotten SO MANY kind messages on how I’m doing and such and I’m so fucking grateful 🥹🥹🥹 thank you so much you guys??? That’s also a part of why I wanted to share this with you, just so yk what’s up. I’ll get started slowly on working on requests again, I’ve gotten so many wonderful requests and I’m actually really excited to write again, cause it’s kinda my passion yk. Thank you so much to anyone who read this! And anyone who supports my works!! I’ll hopefully post again soon and see you then 😁
Love, Author <33

Time to crack into Torment Peak. And I think I know how.
As an aside, I've been ruminating on some of the stuff Resh'al and the Oracle said. Oracle mentioned being one of three Seers. I asked if the Elder Mist was also one but didn't get a response. Either way, I'm pretty sure the other one is Yoyo.
After all, Teaks did say that Yoyo's a seer. So it makes sense that she'd be one of the Three Seers. Three Seers, Three Sisters... wonder what else she's a Three of. I mean, she is the mystical embodiment of centrism itself, so she's well-suited to being the middleman to all kinds of spectrums.
Also, the Elder Mist said that sometimes great evils are sealed away behind those time locks. The Dweller of Torment is the great evil that the Docarri said we imprisoned in Torment Peak. So someone did know this Dweller was here.
We should assume that any kind of "great evil imprisoned behind time locks" situation is a Dweller. That. I guess. We just forgot about? Or Moraine assumed that having them imprisoned like that qualified for "Good enough" status when he was saying that the Dweller of Woe is the last.
Either way, the Dweller of Woe being the last Dweller is clearly an exaggerated claim. Either Moraine lied to us or someone lied to him. There was a lie of unclear origin that accompanied us to Wraith Island.

So, I had a thought that we could shine the crystal on top of Antsudlo down onto that prism in front of the giant to open the door. Basically the Solstice light puzzle thing but on a macro scale.
But it doesn't look like it. Clearly, this smaller puzzle is the way to open the door. Nuts to that plan.
Interesting to note that, in constract to the typical solar/lunar mix that most of these locks come with, both locks are closed solely by solar magic.
Torment Peak seems to have a preference for you, Zale, the way Mooncradle is clearly biased towards me.
Tumblr media
Door's open. Point of no return. Either we kill it here or we've set it free.
Tumblr media
Well that's horrifying.
No mistaking it. This is Fleshmancer shit.
Tumblr media
You know you're in the shit when you find an ancient magical lock inside the ancient magical lock.
The door outside said "DO NOT OPEN".
This one says "NO, FOR REAL, WHY ARE YOU OPENING!?"
Tumblr media
So far, this isn't so bad. Torment minions are even more of a pushover than Strife minions inexplicably were. Woe minions are still the toughest of the lot, no question. But Torment guys vaporize if you so much as look at them funny.
We should not assume that this means the Dweller itself will be a pushover. After all, Strife's the toughest of the lot and their minions went down to a stiff breeze, so Dweller strength and minion strength are demonstrably not proportional.
The biggest threat here is presumably the psychic assault. But since we all took our Fuck Outta My Head Juice (and we swiped an extra vial for Teaks), it's a straight shot to Violence City. Population: Your Ass.

What the atmospheric roller coaster is this?
Tumblr media
Uh. Hi? How is your anus today? Is it safe from Torment?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How...
...long ago was that?
What the hell is happening right now? Is this the Dweller of Torment fucking with our heads? Juice or no juice, I'm not sure we can trust the reality of what's in front of us.
...though I wonder. A lone Solar warrior? I wonder if he was the one who set up the barrier out front. It makes sense that the seal would use only Solar magic if his partner wasn't with him or was dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Guys. Seriously. My hackles are raised right now. Yours should be too. Something is terribly not right about this situation. Us, Bugraves and Erlina, and Moraine have been the only Solstice Warriors for at least a decade. Whatever happened to their mom happened decades ago, maybe even centuries.
This reeks of a trap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's horrifying in a way I can't even process emotionally.

If this is some kind of divine spirit than "entwined forever in the grasp of a Dweller" is not substantively different from "destroyed". From our perspective, we'd never know the difference.
In a sense, it's possible for the Gorilla Matriarch to be here and to have been harvested. Or, more precisely, it's possible that she is currently being harvested over a long period of time? This is all god shit. We don't know everything about how it works.
So maybe these baby gorillas are not a trap, then? Maybe they're just. Like. God babies, and they have a really long life cycle? I don't know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We probably couldn't. We're deep inside a mountain. Remember when we couldn't handle the Dweller of Woe because not enough light from the eclipse was seeping into the building? Garl had to go bomb open the roof and bathe us in eclipse light before the Dweller became manageable. Moral of the story: The eclipse doesn't matter if its light can't reach us.
We're deep beneath a mountain. We've got the fancy amulet and the fancy juice from Resh'al to make this possible for us. But from a standard Solstice Warrior perspective? How would we ever get eclipse light down here?
From a tactical perspective, so deep underground that no light from the sky could ever penetrate it is the best place for a Dweller to be. Unless Torment wants to come up to the surface for some rousing fisticuffs, this sort of stalemate is the best we could have done.
The question isn't, "How could we let this happen?" The question is, "What more could we have done?"
Tumblr media
Yes, Garl, you can write that check. We've got the special handicaps so we can do the thing that can't be done. I feel good about our ability to cash that one.
