In some ways I'm basically a stereotypical Reddit-style edgy atheist but one way I diverge from a lot of SRSEAs is that I don't think it's right to complain about Christians* using the bible to justify liberal political beliefs, as long as they're not preaching at non-Christians and as long as they understand that the bible (or any religious text) can't be the basis for actual laws. When someone says they support abortion or LGBT rights or whatever for biblical reasons, I sympathize with the urge to be like "umm the bible shouldn't have anything to do with it!", but the fact of the matter is that Christianity isn't going anywhere any time soon, and it's inevitably going to inform people's politics, and I'm simply not going to get mad at people for arriving at the same political beliefs as me via a different path than me.
*or people of any religion, but here in the US it's usually Christians

I could be wrong here but I feel like in the context of this post it should be extremely clear that my tags are directed not at Jews or any other non-Christians, but rather at Christians who are in turn addressing other Christians. I'm not Christian, I don't see any need to get Jesus involved either, but I also understand that it's not reasonable to expect Christians to pretend that their religious beliefs have no bearing on their sense of right and wrong, especially when they are talking to other people who share those beliefs. Same goes for any religion.

genuinely one of the saddest parts of this new era of the internet is how hard it is to rick roll someone now. with people's attention spans shortening so much, they wouldn't even get through the first few bait seconds before clicking off the video. like i saw a comment that ended with "btw i made all of this up" and the replies kept treating it so seriously because none of them finished the entire 4 sentence comment. and We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I (do I) A full commitment's what I'm thinking of You wouldn't get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

ugh there's a huge wave of scammers pretending to be gazans today
someone who doesn’t follow me came directly to my inbox to ask me to donate/share their gofundme to leave gaza, and like—i always assume this sort of inbox message to people who have popular posts/perceived high follower counts are scams. it’s despicable that people are capitalizing off of this.
if you’re not sure if something is a scam, donate to world central kitchen instead.

a reminder that “holy week/easter” is coming up this week.
good friday” is this friday and easter is the following sunday, so we are likely to see an uptick in antisemitism, particularly tropes around deicide and blood libel. if you see this, call it out.
if you are jewish, please look after yourself. avoid the internet if you can, engage in some self care, connect with your jewish community.
if you are not jewish, particularly if you are christian or raised christian or live in a dominantly christian society, you need to be aware of the history of antisemitism and antisemitic violence surrounding the easter season and the ways it manifests today. you should be actively working to uncover the antisemitism you have absorbed throughout your life and actively encouraging others to do the same.

Some things I think people are overlooking in the tiktok ban bill, because it's not just a tiktok ban:
It gives the US government the ability to ban *any* app, website, or company they believe to be "controlled" by an "adversarial power" which can change whenever they want
It allows the President and the Administrative branch almost unilateral power to designate *any* app, website, or company to be under the control of an "adversarial power" (and just think about how that can be used un the hands of, say, Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis)
They have to offer little to no evidence for this. For example, tiktok - a Singaporean-headquartered and ran company, partially owned by US interests, incorporated in the Cayman Islands, and whose userdata is stored Austin, TX - is apparently controlled by the Chinese government
It also gives the Federal Government the ability to investigate and shut down any provider who gives access to these banned websites or services, including VPN. They will have unilateral power to dismantle VPNs through outrageous fines what will essentially force them to not operate in the US
A lot of the Congressional Representatives who supported this bill have large donors and/or stock in US Tech companies like Meta, Google, or Palantier who would benefit from the downfall of tiktok or the ability to purchase it and monopolize the market
Those same tech companies which sell our data constantly anyway, including to "adversarial powers"
This is so much more than just a tiktok ban.
