for the ask ship game: drastoria, jeddy and romione

romione: i feel like i shouldnt even talk and let the books do the talking for me. the slowburn was ferocious. the relationship building ate every other hp couple up. with each installation the verse puts out that includes them in it they’re even more in love. it makes me want to rip my hair out that so much romione content is sidelined for other ships and only exist as a side pairing to other ships. ron is so clearly the only one who makes sense for hermione and vice versa hermione to ron. i have never seen a good argument from a romione anti about why they shouldn’t be together or how they would not work out realistically. i can chalk every argument up to classism, a critique of ron’s portrayal in the movies, or a misunderstanding of character flaws that are exacerbated by PUBERTY and the general emotional instability of an average teenager. you look me in the eye and tell me you have never tweaked out when you were teenager. you look me in the eye and tell me that having magic wouldnt make that worse. i’ve actually already made an essay-long post about romione so lets not even get me started on it LOL

drastoria: i’ve already screamed about my reasons here.

jeddy: jeddy is hard because teddy and james sirius are mostly fanon so it’s difficult to ascertain whether they would make sense or not based on personality. we basically know nothing about teddy’s personality and get a handful of lines from james in the cursed child. they seem both to have a rebellious side— james opting to disobey his parents to have a good laugh and the rita skeeter article written about teddy at the quidditch world cup final (which could have been complete slander knowing skeeter) but from what little we do know— teddy is very close with the potter family (lily basically calls him family), presumably since he was born or at least very young since they consider each other family. teddy is also six years older than james. going off that alone, if teddy was around when james was very young, or even when he was born, then no, jeddy doesn’t make sense. it would be a bit creepy, no? fanonly, i’m 50/50– i’ve read some pretty shit jeddy fics but it comes with the territory of liking scorbus so i have to suck it up 😭 but yeah, its a no from me.

“You sure you don’t mind me staying here?” Teddy asked, vaguely gesturing to the spare bedroom in James’ flat. “Not at all,” James reassured him. And it was true, in a sense. Because he really hadn’t minded Teddy staying with him. He just hadn’t been sure how it would work to live with the man he was painfully, secretly in love with. “You won’t feel weird bringing birds home with someone here?” Teddy laughed. It didn’t reach his eyes, but after he’d just broken up with Victoire James hadn’t expected it to. “I don’t really bring girls home,” James said, too honestly. “I – er, usually go to their place,” he lied. It was easier that way, saying he was off enjoying casual nights with random girls. It stopped people asking. Kept them from trying to set him up.

For 'flight', here's an excerpt from a Drarry fic

He’s not far out from London, but it’s far enough that he decides to activate the invisibility shield and put the car in flight mode. He’s glad now that he decided to brave the Weasleys’ shop to buy his car, instead of getting it at a Muggle dealership like he’d originally planned. If the car’s ability to fly gets the dog to a vet faster, it would definitely be worth the shame he felt going into their shop after being on the wrong side of the war.

And finally 'feather'. This is from a Prongsfoot WIP

“We can’t use the stairs,” James says, nodding to the window. “We’ll have to jump.” James decides not to linger on it for too long. He climbs into the windowsill and looks down at the drop. It’s far, especially with no broom between his legs. He pulls his wand out, grits his teeth and jumps. “Arresto Momentum,” he gasps, his body slowing to a stop inches from the ground. He turns and watches as Sirius jumps too, though he uses another spell that makes him drift like a feather all the way down. James makes a mental note to have Sirius teach him once this is all over.

Not sure what it means that not a single one of these excerpts actually has a bird, feather or anything like it.

What do you think of Teddy and James Sirius? I oscillate between adoring them as a couple (especially under Dad Harry’s umbrella) and seeing them as strictly brothers. I don’t know.

Who would pair best with Teddy?

I adore them all and want to see them loved and happy!

I’m doing it as long as I’m asked! I love them together actually. Harry becomes Teddy’s godfather at 17. He’s a traumatised teenager, he’s not parenting anyone if we follow the canon timeline and Andromeda is alive (Harry’s role would only change then imo). Teddy’s off to Hogwarts when James is 4 either way. Also, not to he an epilogue apologiser but James Sirius says in it that Teddy would be family if he married Victoire. Okay this part is hornets nest, you get my point!

Anyways, I read them as pretty similar in that they both have that family trait mischieveness. They’d genuinely have so much together, James would grativate toward Teddy. Teddy has a bit of Remus’ restraint in him though and unlike James he’s touched by the trauma of war. Teddy would be a bit more grounding to James’ boastful recklessness.

It would be James who would pine over and tempt Teddy while he feels conflicted about their age difference & family dynamics. I love it especially when they’re apart for a bit and Teddy sees James again all grown up and hot, promptly loses his shit and the dynamics reversed now because James tried so hard to get over his crush okay??

“Jamie! Did you get them? Did you get them? Please tell me you got them!” Teddy asks, chocolate brown eyes wide and bright and with an irrepressible smile that insistently tugs at the corners of his mouth.

He twirls out of the living room, spilling into the corridor of their shared flat, bouncing on his toes, playfully shaking his shoulders to an internal beat as his hair goes from turquoise to bubblegum pink and sunflower yellow, then back to turquoise. The cycle repeats several times as though stuck on a loop.

Even though James is fighting with three big bags of shopping and barely manages to get through the door without nearly dropping at least one, he can’t deny that Teddy’s excitement is infectious. So much so that his heart starts to race, feeling all fluttery inside his expanding chest. Granted, being head over heels in love may also be the reason for that particular reaction, which really isn’t a bad thing.

James bites down on a grin, shakes his head, and lets Teddy take one of the shopping bags while he kicks the front door shut.

“I did,” he calls after Teddy, who rushes into their kitchen, still bouncing with intense excitement.

The paper bag with a kilo of fresh organic blackberries—it took three trips to three separate farmer’s markets to find them—sits right on top of the bag Teddy’s currently depositing on the kitchen table. James already knows he’ll be the one doing all of the unpacking. There’s no way Teddy has enough self-restraint to resist the sweet taste of perfectly juicy and plump, soft blackberries. He’s obsessed, and James takes great pleasure in indulging his boyfriend.

They are sitting beside each other in a secluded corner of the library when it finally happens. Scorpius isn’t entirely sure what exactly leads to it.

Mainly because his mind is a little hazy afterwards, but also because they’ve been doing so much prep work for the upcoming final Transfiguration exam that seven years’ worth of spells floats around in his head, making a mess of everything.

What Scorpius does know is that it happens right after Al leans close to point out something in the third chapter of Thane’s Metamorphose Laws.

He’s so close then, and there’s only an inch between them, and Scorpius simply can’t resist the temptation any longer. He doesn’t think, doesn’t consider what it might do to their friendship; he just leans in and presses a lingering kiss to Al’s cheek.

When Harry stirs, slowly rolling onto his back, the sun’s already high in the sky, sending her warm rays through a small gap in the bedroom curtains. Harry blinks, letting sleepiness fade naturally, and reaching out, he pulls his glasses off his nightstand and presses them onto his face. His eyes take a moment to adjust, and once he can see clearly, he waves his hand, lazily casting a Tempus charm.

The clock hovering above the bed tells him it’s eleven-thirty-five in the morning. It takes Harry a deep breath to digest that information, and when he does, he jumps out of bed, dashing for the bathroom.

“Fuck!”

“Oh, look who finally graces us with his consciousness,” Draco’s mocking drawl stops Harry halfway and swirling around; Harry glowers darkly, narrowing his eyes to threaten bloody murder.

It doesn’t have any effect. Draco merely laughs at him, then crosses his arms over his chest and leans against the bedroom door frame.

“I called in sick on your behalf,” he says.

Harry frowns.

“I’m not sick.”

Draco nods.

“That you’re not. But you’re overworked and in desperate need of a break. And since you don’t look after yourself, I’m going to do it for you. Congratulations, you’re off for the next two weeks.”

Harry is an inch away from hyperventilating.

“Two weeks?” he screeches. “The Wilcox case!”

Draco looks bored.

“Irrelevant. For you, anyway. Weasley’s handling it. All you’ll be doing is sleeping in, eating good food and having a great deal of sex.”

Harry arches an eyebrow.

“A great deal of sex, eh?”

Draco smirks.

“Yes, and we’re starting now.”

Harry can’t help but huff a laugh.

“Oh?”

Draco pushes away from the door frame and walks toward him. He looks positively devilish and ready to pounce.

“Shower sex,” he says, and Harry finds that he has no objections to that even if Draco tricked him into this holiday.

🔨 - Very few actually. For me it's more along the lines of "I'm putting this in my story no matter how contrived it is". Riot Kings is sci-fi and has no real reason to resort to using a whip to hurt someone, but I've still hit 2/3 whumpees with that one (I'm coming for you next, Jin)

🎬 - Melchior (and all of Riot Kings) started with page one (funny how that happens lol). I drew it completely on a whim after reading one of @the-three-whumpeteers 's prompts about heroes stumbling on a villain in a cell. Mercury wasn't a concept yet, didn't know it was going to be mostly set on a spaceship, didn't even have Nabi's name (or know that she'd have psychic powers). The initial plan was to leave it as a one-off page, but then the ideas kept coming so I was like "oh, okay, I guess I'll do three pages and end with him being rescued", but then I got more ideas. So yeah, here we are 😅

my favourite HP Ship is James Sirius/Teddy Lupin (which anyone reading my AO3 account, under iamisaac, will discover fairly quickly), though I’ve dabbled in a whole heap of other ones.

Favourite thing about BBC Merlin is the relationship between Arthur and Merlin. It is just so well done, that perfect push-pull of emotions and banter, frustration, and love.

I suppose this could have been prompted by the recent post where I said I was writing jeddy for the first time since 2020 but yes I do still write them, and I'm currently, very slowly, editing stupid deep. Something happened that made me stop writing jeddy for a while cuz it really demolished my confidence, but I think about them all the time tbh, and the fics I write for them are some of my favorite examples of my own writing, so I'm eager to write them again. Cindle!!!! Lucky you, this came in twice. 😎 You know what that means! Yes, you're right: Danni taking every opportunity to just keep talking! 🤣 So since I already answered Scorbus, I shall think of another nextgen ship to chat at you about! I sort of waffled between James Sirius/Scorpius and James Sirius/Teddy, but I have to go Jeddy! It's the nextgen ship I've shipped the longest! (So yeah, I ship it!)

1.) What made you ship it?

I have no clue. Actually that's a lie, I have a small clue. My fic The Best Kept Secrets I first envisioned years ago. The original version was Snarry, Jeddy, and Scorbus. My main priority was Snarry, but I had goals for showing how James and Albus were impacted by the truth of Harry and Snape's relationship. The rewrite features Albus/OFC, but I kept the Jeddy!

Why I originally chose James Sirius/Teddy, I can't recall. Scorbus seemed the safe, obvious choice for Albus. Maybe it was the same for Jeddy. Just me needing someone to hook James up with and Teddy was it. But the more I wrote it, even the original version, the more convinced I became. For reasons I'll answer in the next question!

2.) What are your favorite things about the ship?

Cute baby age gap!! 🥹 Also the pseudo-incestuous nature of it. Teddy being James' godbrother, them more or less growing up together. I love the fanon idea of James sort of hero-worshipping Teddy and having a mega crush on him from practically birth, whereas to Teddy it's weird and awkward.

I don't generally jive with friends to lovers, but their specific connection is so interesting. This is one of few ships I ship with no real adversarial nature to it. They have a generally good relationship, almost brotherly in ways; Teddy feeling responsible for James, and almost brotherly while James has puppy love for Teddy.

I imagine them as both being playful, with James being a bit more mischievous and Teddy quite sweet. There is the added level of not only "ruining the friendship" but "ruining the family." Teddy's fears of losing Harry if he and James breakup. His worries about James being too young, too immature, etcetera. While Teddy is the only thing James was ever sure of and serious about. Idk, it does things to me. 🥰

3.) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Not that I can think of!

OHOHO my dear anon, you'll definitely be getting some hints at Louis and Roxy's future love interests VERY soon~ There's going to be at LEAST one chapter in Teddy's POV, I think after their confession is what I was planning. It's sort of a way to split the story between now and the future (not the far future mind you, more like a couple months. Think of it as a Special Episode between seasons). For sure Caleb is still around, and he definitely had something to do with those Muggle's dying, not to mention how obsessed he is with James. I swear this fic is turning into a whole thing. That wasn't my plan but I'm having too much fun writing to stop, hope readers don't mind >w< heehee. I'm not sure how much of the parents we'll see, but who knows! We might! As for the romance? Oh yeah. I have one specific cheesy ass scene I am desperate to write, and that one scene is the whole reason Jeddy is going to be confirmed in this fic, because I am DESPERATE to write it. SO, that being said, we will definitely be seeing lots of unnecessarily fluffy romantic shit from those two fools. I'm so excited. Just a few more chapters >W< thank you for the ask!
