Coffin- why do you install lights and an emergency buzzer for the dead? If they panic while decomposing, is the buzzer there for you to calm and inform them about the natural process? I would also assume the vast majority of the dead you work with outside of David aren't as talkative...
βThey didnβt really have much of a conversation unlike David, they kind of just laid there and panic.β

what if even tho sy is just an assistant sometimes disciples ask him questions bc he's weirdly well read for some dude who just spawned in one day and he'll just Answer shit if it's innocent enough. how does x demon fight? where would you find y monster? and his little hyper fixation brain just rears its head. just a weirdly helpful little scrunkly
RIIIIIGHT RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT. to the disciples hes just this guy that their shizun keeps around that knows weird obscure facts. disciples go to him like hes their personal xianxia google. i think it would be REALLLLYY funny if when sy realized his position in the sect hed be like "oh god im failing these kids. they need moral support they need 3 meals a day they need to know what kind of plant they can use to ward off Six Legged Snow Panthers" or smth like that. im not sure hes in a good headspace to really figure out how to take care of kids actually

Hello! Very random and no worries if that's not your intention for the blog, but I love reading about your teacher experience and insights! Take this ask more so as encouragement to write more about it if you feel like it, because I'm going to start teaching soon (and yes, many people I've met have warned me about both its miracles and horrors lol) and it's really helpful to hear others' experiences :)
Thanks for the ask! Honestly I'm just a first year, so I don't have a tonnnn of advice to give. But here's a few general first year tips from one to a future another:
1 β No matter what, having a good department team is ESSENTIAL. You're going to be relying on them a lot your first year for help, advice, curriculum stuff, behavioral management stuff, etc. Talk to them, get to know them, have lunch with them, share issues/seek advice from them. You're going to encounter situations that your degree did not prepare you for (likely, in the first week lol. For me, it was Day 1) and having people around to help you judgement free is going to be crucial. I was super lucky that my department team and all the teachers from other departments that I work closely with are really amazing, easy to work with, etc.
2 β You're also going to want a good relationship with the "other" departments. The library staff, tech staff, sped department, guidance, janitors, etc. They're all lovely people, so don't be afraid to pop in to introduce yourself on the first week!
3 β Crazy things are going to happen. Like....all the time. Don't bring them home with you. As soon as you exit the doors, shake it off. All your students made it on the bus to their parents alive, so it's fine. Your job is done for the day. I've been going to the gym a lot right from school, and it's been really helpful to prevent myself from taking anything home with me so to speak.
4 β Document, document, document. Did something happen? Document it, email a copy to whoever's applicable: admin, guidance, sped, BCBA, etc. "Hello, just emailing a summary of what happened today" is not an uncommon email for me to send out. If an IEP isn't working, well at the next IEP meeting it shows they have 10 emails in the last month from you about little Timmy's hourly verbal threats and attempted physical violence to his classmates, so maybe the BCBA needs to do some data collection to adjust his BIP, or they need to give him a 1-1, or give him more resource intervention, etc.
5 β This isn't so much of advice, more like reassurance. The small moments when it clicks for a student and they get something, and then the confidence and excitement shows, it's really the best. That's probably why I've fallen so in love with working where I did. The other day, after weeks of struggling to help this student with Downs with his math, I tried a totally different approach based off a few example problems I saw in a math intervention workbook and hOLY HELL IT WORKED. It totally clicked for him, and the kid was so excited to do a problem out on the board for the class. It was amazing. Another student with an LD who I've been helping heavily school aced a quiz in one of her classes and legit ran into the room to show me. Cue me literally jumping out of my chair to high-five her, and her calling her parents to deliver the good news. Like, little things like that are really really special, and they're going to mean so much to you. And I hope you get to experience LOTS of them too!

childhood friends w aki and he punches out some guy who was rude to you and completely forgets about it as an adult. youβll be like remember when you hit (x) that was so cool when we were teenagers. and heβll be like ?? what the hell are you talking about. and yet he remembers the dumb stuff like taking a pen from your least favorite high school teacher or putting gum in the shoe of a girl who was mean to you - π
YES THIS... EXACTLY THIS....
you can't help but tease him about it a little, aki was so rude to everyone but you when you were kids and he wouldn't stand for anyone messing with you. if you were ranting to him about some kids in your class that kept making fun of you his first response would always be, "do you want me to beat them up for you? they'll leave you alone then." (you'd always say no, you know he's serious about it and you just don't want him to get in trouble).
now, when you ask aki about it he's always like, "huhhh... I wouldn't do something like that." but yes he definitely would. and he knows he probably did. he's just embarrassed to admit it.

do you have any tips for like... paneling? your lil comics, if i could call them that(?) with Dave are well made (to me at least) and I'd like to get into making comics! or if you know any resources that helped you. :') - sincerely, a beginner.
sorry to be answering this so late, wanted to try and give some kinda proper advice haha
so what i do is i just make my posts as long as possible so that it takes up like all of ppls dash, this means they are forced to look at it and engage with it!
no ok but for real, first off
this is just how i do things and by no means any sort of proper tutorial or anything,
most of this is prob kinda basic and intuitive stuff, but its good to be reminded of the basics and to notice why you might be doing said things intuitively so you can start doing it intentionally
so how i approach things is by picking a focus panel
whats the Punchline/Emotional pay off for the page/comic?
and then i try and build the rest around that
for actual Comics not every page is gonna have one of those ofcourse and thats fine
i tend to often have to many focus panels,,,, lmao(which is why my posts end up so long,,,,)
i try to group similar panels and make them smaller, it saves space, makes it so the attention goes to the more unique panels and makes things feel more sequential(or u can do like me and have too many similar panels and think, what if i just make it an animation, its just a few extra frames right,,,?<- clueless(i have done this twice now,,, the second is still a wip,,, ))
heres one of my posts deconstructed using all this, id do more of them but i dont wanna make this even longer asdsd, but i think its pretty obvious to pick up on once you know the formula lol
after that i think its mostly just clear composition and flow so things dont get confusing(like what panel(also applies to text) youre suppose to read next and such(thats easier with this cus its usually just individual panels and not full pages))
edit: oh and resources that helped me, i mostly just looked at other comics, paying attention to how the paneling was effecting the story and mood!
some comics ive looked at for paneling inspo are houseki no kuni, how they play with contrast and stuff, idk theyre all just very striking, i looked at ajin at some point as well for help with some action stuff, most action shonen are also great for that 2
so yeah, just find a comic scene that has the same vibe that youre trying to get and see how they did it, finding a few and comparing and contrasting what you feel works best
thats my thought process while doing stuff at least!
i hope this helps at least a bit haha
