“The pretty but nonetheless mediocre substitute in the picture you saw, my dear? Or the marvelous creature I’m wearing in this very moment?”

A scaled head raises from Eneas’ shoulder in curious interest as if its serpentine owner would follow the conversation attentively.

“His name is Arcus and he is ..., well, close to what people in some universes tend to call a white lipped python. He accompanies me through the surges of time and space. Ah, this is overly impassioned, is it not? We found each other when we both were barely more than children on a long-entwined journey, not even aware of the voyage just yet.

Oh, do not worry about his age, he and I, we share a bond too strong to be torn apart by the passing of years.”

Or centuries. The addition seems to only echo through your mind. Eneas’ lips stay motionless in a slight charming smile, until he continues a moment later:

“He is not poisonous and ...”

A slight glow emerges in his eyes.

“It seems, he would like to get to know you.”

In a casual gesture, he puts out his arm to allow Arcus to travel from his body to yours. A split tongue takes in your scent while the snake seems … longer than a moment ago?

“You must forgive him; he is curious and loves to make new acquaintances. Do not let his shenanigans scare you, he likes to change his colors and seize when he gets excited. Old habits die hard and I may have encouraged him a little too much – fascinated by those abilities myself. It is a rare and limited form of shapeshifting. Highly intriguing, don’t you think?”

Layers of Development This sports hall (Sportcentrum Arcus in Wijchen, NL) appeals to me because of its pattern of greens. Each level is more dark green, which is a nice analogy to the development of plants: starting small and frail, in time growing higher and full of leaves. The leaves of the tree in front just started sprouting and will hopefully follow the same pattern of growth throughout this year. Architectural design by Bureau Bos in The Netherlands. An appropriate name in relation to the theme of growth, as bos is Dutch for forest. by Paul Brouns
