"Are you sure ?" Asked Nami.
"Mh. I have to."
"We're going to miss you." Said Usopp.
"We better hear about you." Added Zoro.
"For once, I agree." Sanji said, lighting a cigarette.
You chuckled at their words and hugged them too, your hand patting their backs. You were going to miss them.
"You will. And I'll be back before you get to miss me. I'm close, I can feel it."
They smiled back at you, supporting your need to go a separate way for your dream.
"If you need us…" Nami began.
"Yeah, call us and the great captain Usopp will come to you !"
"Thank you, guys…" You smiled as you gave them a wave, before turning and walking away, leaving the kitchen.
Only one person remained.
Luffy.
He didn't understand why you had to go alone to find that damned "paradise".
You could find it together in the Grand Line ! But you had apparently already made up your mind.
"[Name], I'm sure we'll find it on the way ! Just like the All Blue for Sanji !"
"It isn't said it's in the Grand Line, Luffy."
"And ?"
"It means I have to roam all the seas to find it, but you, it's said it's in the Grand Line so you only have there to go !"
Luffy crosses his arms and frowns, clearly disagreeing but unable to come up with something.
"I still don't think it's a good idea."
"I'll come back when I find it."
"..." He stared at you, unsure. "You promise ?" His voice is softer, interest piqued.
"Yes. I promise, Luffy."
"Because if you don't, we'll come for you." He announced, still frowning.
"I know. I hope so."
He hummed, groaning, not wanting to let you go. You smiled sadly at him, ready to say your goodbyes and he quickly wrapped his arms around you to hug you.
"You better come back." He said quietly, a small smile on his face. "You'll always be a part of our crew."
You nodded, hugging him back, holding him as close as you could before parting. You tried your best not to cry, not really wanting to leave just yet. But you had to.
"Find it. Find that paradise."
"On it, Captain." You smiled in return, kissing his cheek on a whim before leaving the Merry, planning to stay in Logue Town for a few more days to continue your research.
Days had passed and your search continued. You had found a small boat and left Logue Town. You visited islands after islands to find your paradise and quickly days turned into weeks as you roamed the other seas. You couldn't stop thinking about your friends and Luffy, often seeing their bounty show up in the newspaper, always growing. It seemed like he made new friends along the way. Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brook.
-
Months had passed and you were now on the Grand Line, looking for Luffy.
You hadn't given up on your dream, you still knew that Paradise existed but now you knew where.
Why did pirates have to speak in riddles all the time and hide everything ? Couldn't they just say things ?
Luckily for you, you knew where to find Luffy. You've heard his brother was going to be executed and there was no way he wouldn't go there to try and save him. So you did the same, hoping you'd find him amongst all those marines and pirates.
You ran and ran, killing everyone that tried to stop you until you saw him, wearing a yellow shirt.
"Luffy !" You yelled running to him.
His eyes widened and a smile instantly appeared on his face. He kicked a few marines on the face as he ran to you, arms wide open, ready to welcome you in.
Within seconds you were reunited, lengths of arms wrapped around you, caging you against him as he laughed.
"What are you doing here ?! Did you find your paradise ? Are you coming back ?"
You laughed at his questions, he looked so happy to have found you.
"Yes, I found it now, it's by your side, Luffy."
He looked at you, slightly confused by your words.
"What ? I'm the paradise ?!" He smiled, laughing, not understanding.
"Yes, no. The crew is the paradise. You're my paradise, Luffy !" You cupped his cheeks and he grinned.
"So you're coming back ?"
"Yes !"
"Good ! Because I was growing impati-"
You cut him off by kissing him, unable to wait any longer, not caring if it was in the middle of a war with deadly enemies everywhere.
When you parted, Luffy giggled, smiling. Despite everything going on, Luffy was happy. He had you, and was going to save Ace.

Hmmmm, how can I explain it...
Zoro met Sanji as a shameless flirt, right? It's just that his first impression was of Sanji flirting with Nami. That's okay, he considers Sanji an absolute moron for allowing Nami to manipulate him, but to each their own.
The next woman Sanji meets (in front of Zoro) is Nojiko, Nami's sister. The curious thing is that in the anime, Sanji doesn't react to her until Usopp says she's Nami's sister. He's clearly fixated on Nami, which okay, none of Zoro's business and he would not pay attention to it in the middle of a real crisis.
The party after destroying Arlong Park? Whatever, it is a party, everyone is excited, blah blah blah. He has seen it all, doesn't even care when he's drunk and happy himself. Move on.
Zoro is not there to see Sanji with Carmen and when they meet Tashigi, they're running for their lives (and Tashigi tells Sanji to get a grip and leave her alone to fight Zoro, so it's funny). Btw, there's a whole filler arc that I won't mention here.
Then Vivi walks into their lives.
Sanji doesn't react that much to Ms. Wednesday at first. I think it's partially in Whiskey Peak when Zoro loses some respect for Sanji, since he was so busy flirting with 20 women to realize they were in a trap. When they're back in the Going Merry, Sanji quickly flirt with Ms. Wednesday (Vivi) and Ms. Sunday (Robin), but nothing serious.
When Sanji learns everything, there's a moment when he goes to tell Vivi that "I still have a chance to shine. Now that the sleeping prince is awake, your safety is guaranteed". Zoro looks annoyed in the background.
For me, that's the moment when Zoro decided to treat Sanji as a total moron. All the respect that he showed to Sanji in Arlong Park and later at Logue Town? Gone from the surface. There were now two women in the ship and Sanji was being insufferable with both of them. Sanji's obsession with women proved to be a weakness of his, one that Zoro wouldn't ignore.
Remember how in Whiskey Peak there's a whole silly part of Luffy and Zoro fighting to see who is the strongest one? And then how in Little Garden Zoro is the one who starts their rivalry?
Sanji is very polite and normal to Zoro when he tells him to pick some food while he's going for a walk. What does Zoro do? He says "It's okay, I will hunt something that you would never manage to catch". Did he do it to force Sanji to train? Did he mean the jab because he was irritated with how Sanji treated women and how it affected him in a fight? What even was the need to say that?
After that, they were never normal. Zoro would react to every dumb flirt from Sanji. It's like he made his mission to irritate Sanji as much as possible. In turn, Sanji would answer the banter with insults of his own. Point of no return lol.
I think Zoro knew exactly how good Sanji was, but it frustrated him that Sanji would allow women to manipulate him and walk over him just like that. He also hated the fact he wouldn't take women seriously— the base of Zoro as a character comes from the very dilemma that girls can't ever be as strong as men, it came from his childhood friend, the person that he carries both in his weapon and in his dream.
"Do you think a swordman should hurt a lady?" is a slap to Zoro's face and not in the right way even.
It makes you wonder, you know. If the story could ever explore what being a woman means and how Zoro and Sanji think of it, given their respective childhood traumas. If we'll ever see acknowledged the root of Zoro and Sanji's rivalry. If it wasn't for their view on how a man should treat a woman, how would they treat and react to each other?
Maybe that's why I'm obsessed with Zoro and Sanji's dynamic. It's fun to pick it apart.

Luffy is smarter than we think he is!
Luffy having better grasp of the situation than Kid when imprisoned in Udon and exploiting loopholes of the rules to get away with beating the shit of Warden Hippo, shows how much he understands! Many people still don’t realise how smart he actually is when he is not goofing!
Yes, Luffy hitting Kaido alone was reckless move, but Luffy spent one waking day in Wano and immediately understood the root cause of all misery was the symbol of power, under whose name people were doing unforgivable crimes! And that symbol needed to be taken out of equation for Wano’s population to live a decent life where clean food, water and air was a human right and not luxury! Kaido needed to be taken out with urgency for the optimal result!
Luffy hit Kaido with the sole purpose of eliminating him immediately. It’s not that he didn’t understand the plan, to him if the end goal of the elaborate plan was to defeat Kaido, why not do it from the beginning. Only issue was Luffy’s strength was not proportional to his anger!
But once put in Udon, finding Kid, his rival and peer who had been imprisoned longer than him, made Luffy understand that breaking out was not going to be easy. Hence when Kid was ready to pound Warden Hippo, Luffy stops him.
Luffy understands actions has consequences, he always has! Be it picking fight with Higuma the Bear in first chapter or Punching Saint Charlos in the Human Auction House, he understands his well meaning actions have dire repercussions; but he also understands that he has to accept responsibility about his decision— that what makes him much more complicated than goofball personality he has.
Hence Luffy stops Kid from beating Hippo in public, because he knows that they don’t have the keys to their shackles; they are weak and injured! Gaining strength and endurance patiently is better option!
If there is no proof of crime or witness to the crime— did the crime happen? Kid understood it and when other guards try to scare them with death penalty; Kid asks for proof!
Well this is something I have been claiming since age of 11, ever since I saw Smoker Vs Luffy in Logue Town on television some eighteen years back! Yeah I am that old fan of One Piece. After watching Wano Arc animated on screen my belief is proven accurate again; Luffy is smarter than we think he is!
Smoker was right, Luffy is way smarter than he lets people believe.

I'm thinking about reworking the redbomb lovestory in order to have a somehow coherent timeline, and let the original fanfiction living its live separately 🤔
Spitballing :
Buggy and Reddie actually met way before Reddie met the strawhats. Probably in a bar.
Drinking shenanigans & pathetic flirt, she tells him to fuck off and he fell in love
Their relationship go upward and downward like in the original fanfiction, same events but with a different context
In Logue Town arc kids are already like 10 years old
Strawhats meet Red in a bar and get along well with her a little after the Loguetown events. Nobody connect the dots. They don't click she's buggy's girl (not wife yet)
Their road cross often and they kinda become friends but everyone is too stupid to click
... Until the strawhats meet the kids for the first time
"your boys have.... Bright red noses.... And your girl have.... Blue hair" "Yeah just like their father's"
"their father.... Their father's......"
Tumblr media
"FOR FUCK SAKE YOU'RE WITH BUGGY?!!!!"
Buggy getting badly scolded by his girl for bullying these cute little anarchist brats a few moments later
Still including a chapter where buggy screw up really hard and put the kids in dangerous situation. Reddie and the kids join the strawhat for a moment and make solid bonds.
Reunion and wedding officiated by Luffy like in the shitty webcomic back in time because it's too funny
Strawhats are still like cousins for Redbomb family
Timeline of the AU would be like: 5 years between Loguetown and Impel down/ Marineford, and a time skip of 3 years not two

Now that opla season two is semi-confimed and the script has been written,
I'm trying to fit myself into the producer's shoes and map out the contents for the future seasons, especially season 2.
.
Season 2
* Steven Maeda was regretting that they couldn't incorporate Loguetown. I see it as no looking back. Straw hats won't visit there. Smoker and Dragon may interact in an entirely different scenario at Logue town (chasing after Buggy and Alvida?) and Zoro may get his swords elsewhere. Smoker decides to chase after this new Pirate crew. Tashigi may appear as a background role, she'll be left at Logue town and take charge in Smoker's absence.
* We're not visiting Laboon's stomach. Crocus will be chilling outside. Luffy will rile up Laboon and paint the jolly roger. Less than 15 minutes before location changes.
* Whiskey peak will be completely adapted. The producers know the appeal of zoro More importantly, shooting indoors is cost effective. I think this is where Vivi is introduced, the rest of the story remains the same.
* Igaram will die. The eternal pose to Arabasta could be directly passed from him (or plan B, written below)
* Little Garden is either skipped or completely rewritten. The giants aren't there, maybe they already left for Elbaf (or worse, killed offscreen by Baroque works agents). As a wild card, Gaimon story could be merged, where he shares the tale of the giants. Maybe the giant goldfish makes it in for the Usopp gag. Nami will be bitten by a mystery bug and will immediately fall sick.
If we're lucky, Mr. 3's wax house stays. Maybe Sanji will be the one who beats Mr. 3 directly and secures the eternal pose to Arabasta.
* Drum island to cure Nami. I'm not sure what they'll do with Chopper but I assume they'll use prosthetics, Chopper will stay in Heavy Point for the most time. The will of D scene is kept. Wapol is significantly watered down but I think he'll make it in.
* 1-1.5 for the Arabasta lore (the Yuba visit plotline could be adjusted to merge with Katorea/Rain dinners), 2 episodes for everyone's fights and the Civil war plotline. Smoker is heavily included, maybe Ace stays till the end to help them out.
* The scene of Vivi's farewell and Robin's recruitment wraps up the season.
Future seasons
* As for season 3 which could be the final season, they may try to end on a high note and move to Enies Lobby instead of Skypiea. Considering actor's ages and other limitations, I don't think it's unlikely.
* There would be an original extended plot at Jaya to prove the existence of a Sky island via Montblanc Cricket and his excavated golds. But that's it. Maybe Cricket also found the skypiea poneglyph somewhere in the forest that fell from the sky long time ago. Bellamy could be the arc villain and the one to attack Cricket, Luffy beats him and Cricket shares some of his Gold as a gratitude.
* Long Ring Long Land stays to let the crew bond with Robin (Matt Owens said he likes this arc).
* if we're LUCKIER and get to season 4, Thriller bark subplot would only be a single episode and heavily focused on Brook's joining. Zoro scene stays, Moriah might be fodderized by Kuma the same way Krieg was this season.
*Shabondy arc another episode, Amazon Lily one episode, Impel Down two episodes. Marineford is cut short and simplified.
I can't extend my imagination past pre timeskip lol but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Tashigi is little, cute "katana maniaka" who is hated by a community for no reason
Well, in most of a time when I started read One Piece, I didn´t care of OP Community. With my own pace I read manga chapter by chapter and successfully avoided most of the spoilers before I reached ongoing (and dropped it now I don´t care so much about spoilers and start read manga again in that point where I stopped five years ago - and Wano is done :D ) To the point, I was horrified how many people hate Tashigi so much. She always was one of my favourite characters and I ship her with Zoro. Ok, in two cases I am able to understand why she is not popular character: 1, ZoRobin shippers- understand to their feelings, they root for their favourite couple and I feel their "pain". Still get it, it´s part of the fandom to prefer one ship to another one. 2, she is weaker fighter than the others- ok, I have some arguments (I will explain later), but I get it. Some fans have to compare everyone with everyone who holds a sword and yeah, Tashi-chan is really weaker than Zoro or Mihawk. What I don´t get it, why people hate her so much. Be honest, it seems to me that hating Tashigi is an act of misogyny. I'm not exaggerating. Tashigi is a perfect sample how it´s hard to be significant female figure in two almost 100% male domains. In OP universe there is not so much swordswomen and there is not so much higher ranked marines. In many stories there is a narrative if we see female characters among the men and she is "the best however she is a woman" and in many stories it´s explain like "be woman is something worse, but she is great"). Personally, I don´t prefer this type of narrative and gladly Tashigi is not that case.
Assuming for "for non-existent misogyny"
Ppl critisize her for assuming Zoro for nothing. However we knows that his reason why he didn´t want to fight with her it´s kinda different than she thought. But be honest, women don´t assume the men for misogyny without reason. Who knows Tashigi´s experience with discrimination because she is female? Marine´s bases are not space of understanding and tolerence overrun by unicorns. Most of her superiors are men and also most of her subordinates are men. From my own experience I know some women who are in leadership positions and every single of them has experience that they struggled with some dump male subordinate who didn´t respect them because "they are just women". She had to make many times more efforts because of her gendre so that the people around her began to respect her. To become a petty officesand later a captain. And maybe when she fought with the pirates, she was used to that they insulted and underestimated her. We don´t know. Probably, she just expected the same interection from Zoro.
Tashigi is "crybaby"
The others critisize her for her "overeacting" and that she´s weak and crybaby. It´s typical insult for women. Crying is human biological process through which, for example, sadness or frustration is expressed (for all of a people). And I seriously debt when Zoro has his defeated moment with Mihawk and cried and screamed, nobody said "oh, he is too weak, emotional crybaby". No, he is so cool, cause he is able to express human emotions and for female audince he´s more se*ier than before. For girls crying is "shame and typical female reaction", for boys it is "a courageous act in which they show their humanity". Tashigi also show her humanity. In Logue Town, in Alabasta, also in Punk Hazard Arc. She felt frustrated, helpless, betrayed by her own perception of justice. That´s the reason why she cried.
Tashigi is weak
Tashigi is different type of swords(wo)man. If we could look at it that way, there is a group of swordsmen -swordsmen´s comunity whose "members" are divided between pirates, marines and the other groups in OP Universe. Like in almost every pirate crew there is one member who is familiar with some type of swords. These swordsmen and swordswomen are belong to different crews, everyone has different mindset, different goals in their lifes, different personality. And Tashigi is also different than the others. Most of the swordsmen wants to be better and better fighters, want to reach their names into the heavens (ehm, ehm) and be more and more skilled in fight how it would be possible. And for most of them see swords just as tool for reaching their dreams. Tashigi is focusing on these "tools". She is sword geek with high sense of justice, sometimes out of the reality. She wants better world where all of the famous swords are in hands of good people and serve to good of mankind. I don´t get the fans who still compare every single character with Mihawk or Zoro. They throw away Tashigi over the board just because she is weaker than Zoro. Ehm, Idk but it´s the point of the story. Zoro made a promise to become the greatest swordsman in the world and his goal is defeat Mihawk. We saw him in every chapter/episode how he´s becoming stronger and strogner and slowly reaching his name into the heaven. We don´t see Tashigi every single day (or decade) but she is in different position. She is not pirate in the crew somewhere middle of Grand Line and she doesn´t have to face to great dangers every single day. She is captain, most of the time probably she spends in headquarters or on the marine ship where she plans and gives orders to the marines. Of course, she is also in action but with reference to the above it is as it is. And she is not bad.
She is just annoying. Poor Zoro.
For Zoro Tashigi is one of the few people in the universe who: - is not Zoro´s enemy however she is not member of Strawhats crew -and she is swordswoman and she is not rival at the same time - he avoids her in fight by his own decision (in most of cases, he just follows Luffy decision to unite with the others), but Tashigi is not little child or unarmed citizen. Kuina who is gone is big issue of Zoro´s mind and Tashigi´s appearence doesn´t make it easier but in Punk Hazard arc is significant, that Zoro already moved from the statement "Tashigi makes troubles because she is similar to Kuina" to "Tashigi makes troubles". If we miss the interactions between Zoro and female crew members, there are not many female characters with whom Zoro would interact as much as Tashigi. And, you can think that Tashigi sucks but Zoro chose to be in her company voluntarily (depends of the situation where they are stuck together). He could decide for different ways how to interact with her, but in half of the shared moments he is kind to her. In Logue town he listen her chattering about the swords like no anyone else (and it was useful), he was willing to help her, when she was attacked by two pirates in Logue Town and he handed her a glasses when she fell while the others laughed at her. In Punk Hazard, he could left her because she is Marine after all, but he didn´t. Their talks are also awkard. Of course, it doesn´t mean that they will end up together as husband and wife with bunch of children but it was Zoro´s decision to let Tashigi into his life (somehow). According to me, Zoro sees Tashigi as someone who is brave, kind, protective to those in need with strong sense of justice and great geek into a swords in the cutest way as it is possible. It´s probably hard to talk with her, because she stubborn but he never underestimated her as a swordwoman, but he knows that she has different limits than him and that´s the reason why he is ready protects her when it is needed.

Thank you for the honesty of the 5% on the cat pole, you've been spared with a read more 🙏🏼
Now for the other 95%, here's my AU on One Piece where half the characters are cats.
My favourite hobby over the last 2 years has been making AU's for stories I like where the characters are cats either in a Modern world cat cafe or their own world, and with my One Piece phase coming back into full swing let me tell you I am having a blast making this cat version of One Piece.
And an additional rule for this AU, if something here doesn't seem logical for cats to do just don't think about it too much. It's like how Zoro can be human but lift 10x his weight, just don't think about it and have fun.
Here are the main story points and history so far:
- The Strawcat Pirates are a group of cats that live and travel on a pirate ship belonging to Captain Merry. In this AU, Merry is a human and the Captain of a pirate crew, and each of her crewmates is a personified version of a different part of the og ship.
- Cats in this world were worshipped immensely and even seen as Gods in old times in this world (like real life tbh), and at some point around the time of the WG coming into power these beliefs died down.
- Gol D.Roger is a big cat, who was the 'pet' of the most wealthy, famed and powerful pirate crew of the time. To set an example and to lure out the crew members by using him as bait, they set up a public execution for him (unknown to them, this big cat was actually the captain of that crew).
- Haki in this world also sometimes has the ability to allow cats to communicate with humans in various ways. Mostly in a telepathic sense. Gol D. Roger had this ability, and in his final speech he used it to make sure the people could hear his last words alongside the cats. Believing a devil fruit was being used, the marines were ordered to go forth with the execution instead of keeping the animal as bait, since keeping him alive was becoming dangerous.
- The cats that gathered by the execution stand where the first to race away en masse, understanding Rogers final words immediately. The people didn't move at first, unsure where what they heard came from and if they really heard it. After the first few people started dashing to the ships upon realisation and not risking losing this chance to being skeptical, the rest of the crowd followed and the golden age of piracy began.
- Because of the incident at Logue Town, and based on some old history in this world, a lot of pirates believe that cats are the key to finding where the One Piece is buried. So, a lot of pirates searching for the great treasure will have a few determined cats on board in order to aid their search. Some pirates believe any cat will do, but the pirates that do the best know it takes a determined cat with a great passion for Adventure.
- While a lot of pirates are sailing in search of the One Piece, it's mostly cats that make up the most determined of the searchers. So finding a few cats for your ship isn't as hard, but it can be tricky to convince them to join since its the cat that chooses the ship/crew that it wants to aid them in their own journey.
- The Pirate cats and Pirate people are co-dependant on eachother. The cats wanting to sail as pirates to find the One Piece/accomplish their dreams but being unable to do a lot of ship maintenance and sailing because of their cat bodies, the people wanting to find the One Piece/explore the grandline but needing the luck and mysterious qualities that Cats uniquely have in this world to aid them on their journey.
So that's the history. Not every character in this AU will be a cat either. Most main characters will be cats and all of the strawhats will be cats, but I'm mainly deciding the species based on:
1) What I think would fit with the new changes for this version of One Piece
2) What I find funny
I'm gonna make a post each on the arcs and how they go in the catverse, so far the next post is gonna be on the Romance Dawn trio so it'll be about them from the start up until just before Syrup village. Let's see how many arcs I can get through.

So I made a post about the weighting the One Piece live action would place on certain arcs, knowing at one point they do the feet-on-the-barrel moment, which is as they go up Reverse Mountain..
However after reviewing the cast on IMDb and doing some investigating, the show is meant to end just after the Arlong arc. Which means they do the feet-on-the-barrel moment much sooner.
So no Logue Town or iconic scene where Buggy nearly chops Luffy’s head off. Also I heard there are meant to be 10 scripts but they changed to 8 episodes so idk how many eps there will be. I’m operating on 8 episodes. It would be fun if they bait and switched and did 10 eps with Logue Town inclusive but idk
So here’s a new version of the episode weighting, after looking at how many eps each actor is involved
EP 1:
Luffy’s classic intro, meets Koby, defeats Alvida
Introduced to Zoro, meet antagonist Ax Hand Morgan and Helmeppo
EP 2:
Nami introduced, helps to defeat Ax Hand Morgan
Also get introduced to Buggy and defeat in the same episode (since he’s only got 1 ep???)
EP 3:
Introduction to Usopp, also get backstory on Nami
Meet Kuro, possibly have plot twist here where he’s revealed to be the bad guy
EP 4:
Defeat Kuro, Introduction to Sanji and start of the Baratie arc
Get back story on Sanji/meet Genzo
End with Nami stealing the Going Merry
EP 5:
Don Krieg arrives and he and Luffy do battle
Nami meets back with Arlong
EP 6:
Mihawk-Zoro fight????? Either this ep or the previous episode bc we gotta leave Baratie but Zeff only has 2 episode credits
On their way to meet Nami
More Arlong stuff, we see Nami’s debt, maybe meet Nojiko bc she also only has 2 episode credits
Gang arrives and encounter Arlong
EP 7:
Nami back story, Belle-Mere introduction
Nami finally asks for help, Luffy does The Thing. You know the Thing.
Start of big Arlong battle
EP 8:
Conclusion of Arlong Park arc
Foot on the barrel moment as they become a true pirate crew.

May I make a request? Can you please draw Daddy & Carol Masterson please? ( hoping they'll show up in the live action, cause Oda did like him plus he be a great addition in Logue town arc)
Ah sorry, I think it’s important to say I don’t do requests. Drawing for myself isn’t so easy these days so I feel lucky when I can. So drawing on request from others just isn’t in my energy and time reserves. I also don’t do commissions for a similar reason.

Finished the One Piece Live Action and overall I'd give it an 8/10. Most of the actors are great at portraying their roles, and despite a few small (and two not so small) criticisms I had with the show, overall it still felt like One Piece, albeit a different version of it.
I sincerely hope they do a season two, despite my criticisms. I think they could easily do the Alabasta arc, even in just eight episodes, though I'd hope for more.
Logue Town
Reverse Mountain / Crocus / Laboon
Whiskey Peak
& 5. Skip Little Garden and go straight to Drum Island
6. , 7., & 8. Alabasta
Would be so awesome if they did that.
Spoilers below where I go in-depth about my criticisms, mainly for my own benefit.
Starting with the biggest criticism I had, I think it was genuinely a mistake for them to cut the Don Krieg fight because of how it really makes both Sanji deciding to join the crew, and Nami's iconic "Luffy, help me" scene kind of fall flat.
It messes up Sanji joining the crew because, without it there's really no reason for Sanji to even consider joining his crew. At that point, Luffy was just this random wannabe pirate captain who had been forced into becoming a dishwasher for the Baratie, and whose crew consisted of a half-dead swordsman, a liar, and a thief who betrayed them. Not to mention, said-wannabe pirate captain just had his ass handed to him and was looking to presumably get his ass handed to him again by the same guy while presumably going after a woman who stated clearly that she wanted nothing to do with them anymore. What about that screams: "Ah yes, I should quit my sure thing of a life and job to go hangout with these all-powerful, super intelligent, upstanding people!"
It also just sort of lessens the Nami moment later on because at that point she has no reason to even hope Luffy can beat Arlong, and literally every reason to believe he can't given that she'd literally just seen him lose to Arlong at the Baratie. Instead of it being an inspiration of hope at her lowest point, it became this pathetic last-ditch effort to beg for help from someone who she has every reason to believe can't help her.
This isn't to say that scene wasn't done well, for what it's worth. I thought Nami did a good job of recreating the scene pretty well honestly. It was just the setup to that moment that I had an issue with.
Beyond that, I had an issue with Sanji overall, but this is again connected to the fact that they cut the Don Krieg fight. Honestly, while I thought the Syrup Village was easily more enjoyable in live action than it was in the anime, I really wish they'd cut that arc down to just one episode and given Baratie the time it deserved to be what it needed to be. I know they had a lot to cram into just 8 episodes, but I really don't think they did the best of jobs deciding what was worth keeping and what was worth tossing.
Of course, I have to assume this was mainly due to budget and effects, hence why they also decided to cut out easily the best character in Arlong Park (probably hard to depict an 6-armed octopusman), Hatchan, who I would argue is far more important as a comedic relief character than one might expect, but I digress. His role in Arlong Park really helps relieve some of the tension, reminding everyone that this is supposed to be a goofy pirate show and not always some ultra serious, depressing drama series.
Other than all that, the show was great I thought. You really have to open your mind a bit and not be such a stickler to the source material, as I often find myself being. I really hope they do a season two though. I can see it being somewhat feasible for them to do an Alabasta Saga next. 1 ep for Logue Town, 1 for Reverse Mountain/Crocus, 1 for Whiskey Peak, skip Little Garden since ultimately it's not super important and just have Nami get sick some other way, 2 eps for Drum Island, and then I think Alabasta itself probably deserves 3 episodes so we can maybe see at least a couple of the fights.
I'd love to see Zoro solo the Millions, and especially his fight against Mr. 1 since I think that's a pivotal power-scaling moment for him when he cuts steel for the first time. Of course, you can't have Alabasta without Bon Clay, so seeing him and Sanji fight would be good. And then obviously, Luffy vs. Crocodile. I'm not sure where Nami, Usopp and Chopper would fit in, since I'm trying to think of how you'd keep this budget-friendly, and having them all fight their actual opponents I think would just be too much (especially Usopp & Chopper vs. Ms. Merry Christmas & Mr. 4).
