I found this in my drafts and I don’t remember what I was doing with it so - here, have some SWTOR OCs xD Vague descriptions/roles under cut.

Caspian Serapis: Jedi Knight, Alliance Commander, my Main Boy. Logical, defiant, often exhausted, he just wants to spend the rest of his life cocooned in Scourge’s arms. Khel Sutek: Sith Warrior, Empire’s Hand, my Second Main Boy. Calm, calculating, dutiful. He’s trying to forge a better, progressive Empire with his boyfriend Quinn. Ibis: Smuggler, bringer of chaos, they just want to cause as much confusion as possible and then sit back with popcorn. Damaskh: Imperial Agent (Cipher Twelve). Half Zeltron, half Sith Pureblood, enjoys flying in the face of both stereotypes. Entirely detached and incredibly dangerous, especially when he gets bored. Deska: A former slave of the Empire who now works for Khel as a combination of household servant and bodyguard. Pragmatic, outspoken, enjoys antagonising Quinn during her off hours. Darius Serapis: Republic Trooper. Caspian’s older brother. Hard-spoken, uncompromising, unflinchingly loyal to the Republic. A favourite officer among the lower ranks for his dedication to those under his command. Maahes: Former Sith battle prodigy turned Jedi Master. He defected several decades ago and now is a well-respected if somewhat maverick Jedi with a soft spot for instructing groups of apprentices. Caspian’s former mentor. Triss Lyrra: Bounty Hunter. Small and scrappy and constantly underestimated (I just thought a Miraluka sniper would be funny okay). Vanirr Khel-su: Jedi Consular. Calm and level-headed and devoted to to the teachings of the Jedi - possibly too devoted, he can get a little preachy. Aati: Mute slave sent to Korriban for training as a Sith. They rebelled and escaped and now make their home in the Sith tombs. Dangerously powerful in the Force, but they mostly want to just be left alone with their k’lor’slug and tukata friends.

has been brewing in my head for a little while, but i'm imagining race swapped riptide au where jay and chip are tritons and gillion's a human

gillion is a human and i'm not fully settled on what he looks like but i imagine he's got quite thick and curly dark hair. and freckles. he must have freckles. and maybe pretzel's a bird and apple is instead the frogtopus. so gill would be from the navy of this universe, a sort of apprentice who's shadowing the admirals or something. he's still the chosen one, but has more emphasis on aster this time. the navy have taken him in (forcibly) to try and create an unstoppable warrior. but in a peace meeting with the undersea (he isn't really supposed to be there) gillion attacks one of the leaders - the son of the elder - and gets himself banished from navy soil. somehow he ends up sinking into the sea (don't ask me how, this is a half-baked au) and gets 'picked up' by the big chipper, with chip and jay

picked up is in quotation marks because can you really be picked up by a shipwreck?

chip is a triton, sorta light turquoise skin with seaweed green hair, he's not really based off a specific type of fish, just a generic triton type design. he used to be part of a shoal known as the black roses, a group of various aquatic humanoids that lived under the protection of the leviathan they knew as captain rose (in this au we're following griff @/apple-the-bluebird's idea that leviathans can transform into humanoids, cause it makes it easier for me). until, however, a tragedy struck in the eastern sea and, well no one really knows what happened but the black roses and captain rose haven't been seen since. he swam with reuben price (whose design i think should be like an eel triton) until that went south and he decided to settle in an abandoned shipwreck that he dubbed the big chipper

jay is a triton/water genasi mix, with her mother being a triton and her father being a genasi, so she ends up with dark blue skin and more elven ears, her hair's suuuper long and it's white but seems to glow almost orange in dim light. she's also very tall. big fish lady. she's the granddaughter of the one and only elder, so has a lot of pressure on her, but after her sister's death she chooses to work in her mother's undersea equivalent of a tavern (not much changes here). chip, swimming out every so often from his shipwreck to gather supplies, bumps into her and convinces her to hide out with him and she for whatever reason agrees (suspects someone under the wing of an old leviathan may have killed her sister)

and then they find this just regular looking human guy who clearly needs help and they get him a way to breathe underwater and he decides to just stay with them

extra notes that i'm just adding on the end:

shipwreck blows up because chip doesn't tell gill about the gunpowder he found below deck, or that the silly creatures he's playing with are sea lemurs that very much breathe fire. this causes them to keep travelling. the albatross is just what they call every shipwreck they stay in

the navy and the elders are completely switched, so it's the ferins that run the undersea (with grandma faye as the one and only elder) and the elders are known as the admirals

gill is very much still oblivious, just it's to undersea culture this time

the islands are different reefs/areas they travel through

shoals are like the equivalent of pirate crews. the elder and the ferins very much disapprove of them because they travel around generally causing trouble

caspian, edyn and finn are also land dwellers in this (everyone is completely race swapped, so any land humanoids are aquatic and vice versa). i imagine caspian's an elf though rather than a human

niklaus is a leviathan - this is important to me

Cruising Caspian’s Seas (not a spelling mistake)

So, I have been following an entertaining thread in one of my Goodreads groups. Someone asked, “Just for fun, if you could visit one setting of a Sci-Fi or Fantasy book for a day, which would you choose and why?”

There were some great suggestions, like the Shire, Wall, to visit the fair every nine years, Rivendell, Arrakis, San Francisco in the Star Trek universe and a lot more, that if I’m honest, I didn’t get and had to Google.

This reminded me of the FAQs I answered when I first set up my Goodreads author page…

Q: If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

A: Robin Tompkins That’s a tricky question. Most of the fictional places I engage with, tend to be great to read about but probably not the best places to actually visit. It’s a bit obvious of me but I would perhaps say Narnia? Not White Witch era Narnia though. Perhaps they are running Dawn Treader cruises now? Nice, comfy, all-inclusive ones, with a good buffet and a nice bar? I’d probably do that.

Which got me thinking about what that cruise would be like exactly…

In the Footsteps of the Dawn Treader

Cruising on either MS Cair Paravel or MS Queen Lucy, identical sister ships recently refurbished to the highest standards. Facilities include: two pools, sauna, spa, gym and fitness centre. Five restaurants, eight bars, movie theatre, planetarium and enclosed observation deck.

Itinerary:

Depart Cair Paravel docks on an early morning sailing into the Great Eastern Ocean.

The Lone Islands

Plenty of time to visit the bustling local markets and get a bite to eat at one of the many fine restaurants, or, if you prefer, the street food scene here is a lively one.

Optional Tour

Guided excursion to the Ducal Palace (former Governor’s residence) and a chance to hear about the darker side of the island’s history, with a visit to the Museum of Slavery. Entrance to both included.

Dragon Island

A small but lovely island with an interesting past. Simply relax on the beach or at one of the many cool beach bars. Local speciality is a cocktail made with fermented palm sap called a “Hot Dragon,” (two shots) or a “Warm Dragon,” (one shot).

Optional Tour

Locally guided tour to the Dragon’s Cave. Marvel at the life size animatronic dragon and see the actual dragon bones in the small museum. The museum shop is a great place to pick up souvenirs, they have dragon themed gifts to suit all budgets, from key rings and fridge magnets to gigantic and wonderfully cuddly plushies!

Deathwater Island

An unremarkable looking little island with quite the secret. Purchase one of the sweet little key ring sized teddy bears from the gift shop at the docks and follow our experienced guide up to “The Pool.” Please, Please, stay behind the line and listen to your guide at all times, it’s for your own safety. Watch, as the local custodian takes your teddies for a dip in the pool and returns them to you, now made from solid gold!

Duffer’s Island

The friendly locals will make you very welcome. There is plenty to see and do here and the restaurants are superb. However, you might want to be aware of this comment that we snipped from “Trip Advisor.”

“The Dufflepuds could not have been more welcoming. Lovely restaurant, decorated in the island style with curios everywhere and a great ambience. The food is to die for but don’t make my mistake, you have to remember the local’s mode of locomotion here people… Don’t order the soup, don’t order the soup or any, and I mean any, hot beverage… oh yes, and no red wine either, don’t go there, trust me.”

Optional Tour

Guided visit to the Magician’s Palace and two hour “introduction to simple spell casting” lesson with a registered second year apprentice magician.

The Dark Island

Unfortunately, due to new international maritime guidelines and certain well publicised incidents that you may be aware of, we no longer take parties ashore here. It is still a spectacular and mysterious site as we sail by though.

The Island of the Star

There is a wealth of information available at the visitor centre here and in the “Sleeping Lords” Museum. Star spotters though need to be cautious, as Ramandu and his lovely daughter understandably, do not like people turning up unannounced at their gates. There are however, a number of lovely items that they have been gracious enough to trap a little starlight in, available in the gift shop. These range from earrings and necklaces, through to tiny bottles of starlight and snow globes. Proceeds from the sale of these items benefit local charities.

Merpeople Fiesta

At the edge of the “Sweet Seas” we anchor up. Your ship will hold a spectacular gala party with fireworks and dancing. It’s Merpeople themed, and costumes are available in our onboard shop. For that authentic touch, why not barter with the actual Merpeople who will swim out to the ship in the afternoon? They love to trade for their hand made trinkets, sustainably made from coral and shells.

Only the Brave

If you are brave enough, the ship’s launch can take a small party out onto the Lily Sea to get a better look at the Reepicheep memorial and the Great Wave. The really intrepid can take out a two-man kayak with one of our expert guides and get even closer. Please note that the line of lion headed buoys marks the international Aslan Line and your guide cannot take you beyond that point in line with maritime law. Please be aware that places are limited on this excursion, it’s first come first served, so register early.

A Fond Farewell?

For those on the Short Package, we sadly must say farewell. You will portal back via picture/wardrobe to your original joining point. *

The party is not over yet for those clients who opted for the Full Package. Your ship will now return to Narnia Cair Paravel Docks via a limited stop reverse of the outward route. There will be more days at sea but that is all the more time to enjoy the wonderful facilities and “me time” available on your lavishly appointed cruise ship.

Here be Sea Serpents

You may have noticed on your maps an area near Deathwater Island marked “Here be Sea Serpents.” The reverse route will take in this enigmatic ocean area and if you are lucky and we usually are (management cannot guarantee sightings) you will be able to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. For your own safety, we recommend viewing from the enclosed observation deck, where our resident serpent expert will be on hand to answer all of your questions.

Cair Paravel and Sadly we Must Say Goodbye

Upon docking at our final destination, we include a tour of the castle and a farewell luncheon in the main hall. After which we say goodbye as you portal home via picture/wardrobe to your original joining point, * your mind brimming with happy memories. See you next year?

*Please note some clients may need to change at the “Wood Between the Worlds” interchange before travelling on to your original joining point. Royal Narnia Lines representatives will be on hand to safely guide you through the process.

Oh hey it’s time for some cheesiness with Caspian and Raelynn ♥♥♥ I love these two so much and how much they love and build each other up

The sand beneath them was still barely warm from the summer’s sun, shifting with Raelynn as she turned onto her side within Caspian’s arm. He adjusted with her, pulling her in while Raelynn wrapped herself around him so they could be as close as possible with their clothes still on.

She smiled at the rumble of laughter as he looked at her, quirking an eyebrow and asking, “Comfortable, lass?”

“Hm, I’m not quite sure.” Raelynn mused, trying to not grin too broadly at the roll of his eyes as she continued, “I’m still not convinced we couldn’t watch the shower from the comfort of our own bed.”

He scoffed, “Aye, if we were aiming to miss it all. Skies are clear as could be out ‘ere on the beach, not a cloud or building in sight. The lull o’ the waves against the sands. It’s perfect, or, well, almost perfect. It’d be even better on a ship with clear waters fer stretches around, when it turns to a mirror o’ the skies.”

Settling on top of his shoulder, Raelynn watched his profile with unrestrained tenderness, letting the sound of his voice wash over her and settle into her bones. “That sounds lovely, Cas.”

“It is,” he agreed, fingers absentmindedly playing along her exposed side and sending comforting tingles up her spine. “We would-” Caspian stopped, bitterness flitting across his face before he could stop it.

Her heart clenched, understanding all too well the taste of bitter memories. When he didn’t continue, she thought hard, trying to dredge up the skeletons of lost memories without ripping herself open. “In my village, we would sneak out at night to watch the southern lights play over the fjord. The best views were always found on the beach, and on the gentlest nights we could see them in the skies and on the water. But it was often so cold we could only stay out for a few minutes before scurrying back to the hearth fire, at least until I was able to conjure fire.” Raelynn could just barely remember the feel of the freezing cold wind on her face, making her eyes water and huddle into her furs and shiver next to her twin. Their mother’s frown as Mama Magnhild built the dying fire back up and pushed the freezing twins towards the warmth. The faint taste of warm honey and mint “tea” as their mother brushed through their tangled hair and carefully rebraided every plait by the midnight fire. She stopped the memories before she could dwell on the emptiness of the hearth after her mother’s and mama’s passing.

Caspian’s hand moved from her side to her arm, giving a comforting squeeze and helping to draw her from her memories. “A good memory, by the sounds of it.”

“Definitely one of the better ones,” Raelynn joked, settling into the quiet and warmth. Her hand crept under his open vest and spread over his chest, the steady thump of his heart anchoring her to this time and place. “Maybe one day we’ll be able to watch a meteor shower from the sea. I think I’d like that.”

“I think you would too,” he turned his head to look at her, inches from his face. “’N mayhaps we could visit your ol’ village and watch the southern lights.”

She grinned at him, “I’d like that. And I could show you all the secrets on the island that only the locals know about.”

“An adventure?” His eyes gleamed and he carefully sat up, pulling her along so they looked across the dark ocean. “You should know I’m always ready to sail for an adventure.”

“Where else would we go on this grand adventure?” She shook some of the sand from her hair and clothes, watching Caspian’s mind begin to whirl at the possibilities.

He leaned back on a hand to run the other through his beard, “Anywhere we’d want to! There’s so much of the world to see… The salt flats o’ Nevivon are too obvious, absolute tourist trap that is, same with the grand capital o’ Prakra. But there are hidden gems in each. We would just have to find them!”

“Sounds an awful lot like a treasure hunt, Mr. Ex-Pirate.” Raelynn teased at him, but his growing excitement was infectious, and she wondered just what the rest of the world looked like. What could she learn from such places?

“Only the grandest kind o’ treasure hunt in all o’ existence!” He hopped to his feet, beginning to pace, “O’ course, it will take a while to be able to afford it, but I’m sure between the two o’ us we could figure it out. Maybe start off with the northern jungles? There’s a river that has these beautiful fish that shimmer like opals, and the waterfall has a cave that legends say was carved out by two magicians looking for a secret well to the center o’ the earth.”

Raelynn didn’t think she could smile any bigger as he continued on, listing wonder after wonder that he wanted to take her to. Getting to her feet, she dusted off more sand as he started pointing out directions, glancing up at the stars to make sure he was correct, and growing more and more animated.

Then suddenly his arms were around her thighs and he was lifting her into the air with a yelp, his smile brighter than the stars as he exclaimed, “I want to show them all to you! Every last nook and cranny until we are full on all life has for us!”

Laughing, Raelynn cupped his face in her hands, “I like this excited side of you.”

“Well, I’m better when I’m with you, so you better get used to it, lass.” He grinned, “Cause as long as you’re with me, I know we can take on the world.”

She bent down to kiss him, loving how his arms tightened slightly as she did. Pulling back, she looked up to the stars to see the meteor shower had begun. “Let’s start our adventure right now, love.”

He looked past her to the sky, watching the lights skip across the dark. “Aye, and here’s to many more to come.”

From @thursdaysshepard - the prompt was for Julian and my apprentice Yvenne, in a royalty au, and the inspiring word was ‘bubbles’! If you like this and want to see more of my writing, I have an account on AO3 here. I’m also still open for commissions!

The Masquerade had always been the most enchanting thing about coming to Vesuvia, Julian thought, but the blue-haired woman who drifted through the parted crowds in the Ocean Room soon stole both that title and any other coherent thought he might have held in his mind. The bubbles that rose through the air glistened like diamonds, each one containing a perfect portrait of the Countess with her azure locks plaited under a floral diadem of silver, and her eyes glistened like emeralds mounted in freckled alabaster skin. He wished he could snatch one out of the air and keep it to remember how spellbound he had been by the sight of her; this desire was popped sharply like the bubbles around him as the Countess extended her hand and asked him to dance, a knowing smile painted on perfect pink lips.
