moon landing anniversary
Tumblr media
Fifty four years ago, the first human footprint was left in the powdery dust of the moon.  For the first time in history, humanity had not just left their own world behind but had set foot on a completely new surface.  For as long as humanity had been humanity, they had looked up at the moon and know it for the brightest light in their night sky, their one ever changing, consistent companion.  Now, finally, man had managed to reach back across that darkness and touch that familiar face.  The moon landing was the culmination of not just a decade and a half of a space race between two world powers, it was the realized dream of humanity back into the very early mists of time when ancestors that weren’t even entirely what we’d call humans today looked up into the night sky and fell in love with the pale light that fell down over them.  The sun gives us light and warmth and life but the moon is what humanity has hung their dreams, their wishes, their magic and their romance on.
It has always been something we have hung our superstitions on too.
Superstitions are a part of humanity.  And when we went to the moon - we brought them with us.
Instead of talking about goddesses and harvests and animals and omens, I thought, today, on the anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon, we’d talk about the superstitions that they took with them on that flight and the ones some astronauts still honor today in the space station that orbits between us and the moon and that may one day, hopefully soon, see us back on the moon and then even further.  Sailors have a reputation for being superstitious.  When you cast out into the great Deep, you can’t help but feel that you are very small and the world around and, more importantly under you, is very, very wide and very, very deep.  On land you can sooth yourself into believing that man has tamed nature.  There’s no such comforting lie when you are out of sight of land.  What are astronauts but sailors of the stars?  A ‘star traveler’.  And the space between here and the moon is a much longer and deeper horizon than any sailor on the water ever watched fade behind him.
Let’s start with the light stuff.  I was surprised by how much food factors into space launch tradition.  Not sprinkling corn meal or salt in circles to keep away evil spirits but eating food.  An astronaut’s breakfast the day of the launch?  Scrambled eggs and steak if you’re American.  If it worked for John Glenn and Alan Shepherd, it should work for every astronaut after, right?  Cosmonauts however get a champagne breakfast, because Russians know how to send someone off in style.  NASA has a cake delivered with the mission’s emblem on it.  No one cuts or eats the cake though.  Damaging the launch’s symbol would be bad luck.  When America first wanted to launch probes to photograph the surface of the moon in the early 1960s with the Ranger missions, every mission failed until the seventh one.  A seventh launch attempt that just happened to have everyone sharing the can of peanuts one of the engineers had brought into the room.  It’s been peanuts at ground control ever since.  After the rocket launch, everyone on the ground gets a meal of beans and cornbread, the meal that the original control crew had after the first successful launch.  And lets not forget the bagels and donuts ground crew gets after the shuttle orbiter gets successfully delivered to the launch pad.  Bagels and donuts are round; the shuttle is round.  Obviously.
In Russia, people would lay coins on the railroad track the shuttle would arrive via.  The flattened coins were not only a completely cool way to memorialize the event but were also considered lucky.  Cosmonauts were not allowed to lay coins on the tracks though.  It was considered unlucky for them to see the shuttle arriving.  Instead they were given haircuts during the shuttle’s arrival, as much a tradition as ward against bad luck.
In fact, you’ve probably already noticed that a lot of these seem to be tradition as much as superstition.  At its core though, what is a great deal of superstition but at some point someone did something and got the result they were hoping for and thought ‘if its not broke, don’t fix it’, carrying on with the habit until everyone forgot why it was a habit in the first place?
For instance, cosmonauts sign Yuri Gagarin’s guestbook in his old office and, in some traditions, ask his permission to fly.  They also leave red carnations in his honor on the Memorial Wall.  And, like Yuri, they too pee on the right rear tire of the bus taking them to the launch pad.  Ladies don’t have to but some of them bring a jar of pee to contribute.
Both astronauts and cosmonauts bring a talisman with them into the shuttle.  Its for good luck, but it also is the first indication to the people inside the shuttle that they’ve left Earth as it starts to float once they’ve cleared the tug of gravity.  Stuffed animals are popular for this purpose.
Before launch in the States though, while waiting to enter the shuttle, the astronauts and the tech crew play cards until the commander of the mission has the losing hand.  This lets him leave his bad luck behind with his cards.  While the crew is playing cards, the launch crew fills the tanks with fuel for the launch and writes a woman’s name in the frost that forms during the process, a superstition picked up from their Russian counterparts.
In 1980, this tradition was left out during a satellite launch and 47 ground crew were killed in an accident.
Baikonur, Kazakhstan, leased by the Russians for their space program, has an Avenue of Heroes where a tree has been planted for every launch.  The successful ones - and the ones that weren’t. Every cosmonaut walks the route past the trees before launch.
Russia will not launch missions on October 24.  A disaster in 1960 was followed by another in 1963 on that date and it was permanently scratched from the calendar after that.
The Apollo 13 mission has put due to the taint already associated with that number for most Americans, though it did have a happier ending.  Incidentally, the vest worn by mission controller Gene Kranz during that mission is on display at the National Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.  His wife sewed him a new vest for every single mission he was involved in.  The Apollo 13 vest was white.
Lastly, every mission after the ill-fated Challenger explosion has seen a bouquet of flowers delivered to mission control.  One rose for every astronaut on the flight and a single white one to remember the ones that have been lost.

"On 11 April 1970, Apollo 13 launched right on schedule at 13:13 military time. How ironic, all those 13s! What is not generally appreciated about Apollo 13, however, is that the crew came nearest to dying during their launch, not as a result of their in-flight accident.
'Houston, we’ve had a problem,' Lovell reported.
I was at Mission Control with the Apollo 13 wives when Jim uttered his masterpiece of understatement. Initially the crew thought that the loud bang might be a meteoroid hitting the lunar module. But it was far worse.
Tumblr media
The flight of Apollo 13 in its entirety lasted for 145 hours. About 90 of those came after the accident. I was awake and either in meetings or in the lunar module simulator for about 120 of them. It’s hard to believe all the work it took to achieve the crew’s safe return. That work was done in Mission Control, in the simulators at the Cape and in Houston, and all over the Manned Spacecraft Center.
Tumblr media
Like all the rest, I was delighted to see Jim, Jack, and Fred get back alive, because when I was watching the second oxygen tank leak, I thought for sure we had lost them."

With Alan Scott’s first solo book since 1949 now officially announced, I thought it was about time to finally put together a reading guide to all his appearances as a gay man in DC’s main continuity. If you’ve missed the beginning of Alan’s journey and you’ve got a couple questions that need to be answered, or you merely want to refresh your memory and celebrate this momentous occasion, this is the place for you!
VITAL
Green Lantern 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular (2020) #1 -  a rehash of Alan’s origin from All-American Comics (1939) #16 with added details, now establishing Jimmy Henton as his lover and confirming Alan’s sexuality as well the gaycoding of his original appearances from so many decades past.
Infinite Frontier (2021) #0 - Alan comes out as gay to his children in a tearful confession regarding his past fears, his marriages, and the eighty years he’s spent in the closet.
DC Pride (2021) #1 - Alan meets Todd and his boyfriend Damon Matthews for lunch and a long overdue honest discussion -- featuring flashbacks to Alan and Jimmy’s first meeting and the subsequent train crash, as well as a newfound understanding between Alan and Todd and what it had meant for Alan to see Todd as an out gay man.
THE DCU AT LARGE/ONGOING
Infinite Frontier (2021) #1-6 - picking up immediately after the aforementioned IF #0 and DC Pride, the series sees Alan and Todd working together to solve Jennie’s mysterious disappearance and the destruction of the JSA’s HQ. Alan’s sexuality is referenced throughout the book, and the complicated father-son relationship between him and Todd is further explored.
Dark Crisis (2022) #1-6 - Alan is a main character in the series, dealing with themes of legacy and the official return of the JSA.
Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green (2022) #1 - the one-shot sees Alan coming back to his magical roots, and features him as the key to defeating the Great Darkness with his children’s help. Notable for featuring four generations of DC’s mainstay LGBT characters (Alan, John Constantine, Todd Rice, and Jon Kent).
The New Golden Age (2022) #1 - this one-shot sets up the Justice Society of America (2022) ongoing series and the Stargirl: The Lost Children (2022) six-issue miniseries, it’s also the first story set in the 1940s to feature Alan after his coming out and it officially confirms that Doiby Dickles was aware and accepting of his sexuality.
Justice Society of America (2022) - current ongoing series, Alan is a main character.
UPCOMING
DC Pride (2023) #1 - the one-shot will feature a team-up between Alan and Apollo & Midnighter in the story entitled ‘Anniversary’. Out May 30th 2023!
DC Pride: Through The Years (2023) #1 - the one-shot serves as the starting point for Alan’s upcoming series. Out June 13th 2023!
Alan Scott: The Green Lantern (2023) #1-6 - the six-issue miniseries is a ‘year one’ type story, exploring Alan’s rarely-seen coming of age and his life as a gay man in the 1940s. Out October 3rd 2023!

Hi Rose!
In your list of 5 topics you could speak for an hour on with no preparation, one stands out to me as quite different from the rest…
Apollo 11
How did that fascination start? What about the Apollo 11 mission interests you most? Any fun facts I may not know? (I will warn you that I have spent family vacations the past three years at various air and space museums lol)
*stretches, flexes fingers*
KAT. What a great ask. And yes, my love of the Apollo 11 mission - and the entire space race in general - is probably a little at odds with most of my special interests. I'm also very aware of the inherent problems in the space program, as Gil Scott Heron so beautifully articulated at the time in 'Whitey On The Moon'. But it absolutely fascinates me. Warning: nerding out incoming.
I was always aware of little things about the race for space - I share a birthday with poor Laika's ill-fated launch, so all the 'on this day' stuff I devoured as a kid on my birthday involved a poor little Russian dog going off into space and not returning. Definitely not traumatising or weird. (I have a Laika brooch and fridge magnet, though, as a little nod to this.) And I saw Apollo 13 in cinemas, and was always fascinated by the aesthetic of the program.
With the fiftieth anniversary of the Moon landing in 2019 the BBC launched an utterly brilliant podcast series called Thirteen Minutes to the Moon, which had me hooked. (They did a sequel about Apollo 13, too - highly recommended). I found the narrative fascinating and compelling - not a straightforward tale of heroism and American triumph, nor of absolute loathing of their Soviet cosmonaut rivals and colleagues. (A favourite Apollo 11 detail is that Armstrong and Aldrin left a commemorative medal on the surface of the moon for Yuri Gagarin, first man in space, and Vladimir Komarov, another Soviet space pioneer who died tragically young. Hardly the actions of hardcore Cold Warriors...)
After that I read everything I could lay my hands on about the mission and the space program in general. Michael Collins's extraordinary memoir Carrying the Fire confirmed him as my absolute favourite astronaut: erudite, a Francophile, utterly hilarious (he had a tendency to use slang terms like "that cat" and "baby" casually in his communications during the mission) and with a really insightful understanding of his colleagues. He also designed the initial concept for their mission badge - notably refusing the inclusion of their names, as this would have erased the contribution of so many others, and insisting on the olive branch in the eagle's claws as a sign of peace and goodwill for all mankind.
I also adore Andrew Chaikin's A Man on the Moon, which covers the entirety of the Apollo missions. The Smithsonian/Air and Space Museum (of which Collins was the first director!) also made available countless digitised and scanned items linked to the missions, including these natty purses in the shape of the command module from Apollo 11 that were gifted to the wives of the crew. (Yes, I want one.)
The final thing that hooked me? Todd Douglas Miller's beautiful, powerful Apollo 11 documentary, with a score by Matt Morton that is still on my go-to writing soundtracks list. I can't recommend it enough if you haven't seen it. It's an extraordinary piece of work, one that blends the humanity of the people involved with the epic scale of what was being undertaken.
And I think that's what appeals or interests me about it: the risks, the fears, the hopes, the criticisms, the sense of a world waiting and watching to see how this would play out. And that's why I've got a full Saturn V rocket Lego model on top of one of my bookshelves and a Lunar Lander set waiting to be built...
Thank you so much for asking - and apologies for all this nerding out! (I'm guessing you've seen For All Mankind on Apple + - if not, it's a great counterfactual telling of the story.)

In the Dark of the Night
Summary: From the world of Multitudes (can mostly be read as a standalone smutfest though). Clint and Buck can’t remember the last time they had some time alone, so decide to go camping for a night and get away from the pressures of parenthood. The usual sexytimes ensue.
Prompts fulfilled: ‘Bigger is Better in Bed’ – Multifandom Flash (Beehive); ‘Skinny Dipping’ and ‘Camping’ – Marvel Rare Pair Round 3; ’27. Outdoor Event’ – Flufftober; ‘Sex Toys’ – Build a Bucky Bingo; ’13. Restraints’ – Whumpcember.
CW: All the sex. Only a shade short of PWP. Check it out on AO3 here or below the cut with the cards!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“This is harder than I remember,” Clint grumbled, fighting with a metal pole, his brow furrowed in frustration. I couldn’t help but grin, reclined with my feet up on a cooler, sipping at a bottle of beer. ‘Are you sure you don’t want any help?’ I offered again when his eyes were pointed toward me, the bottle between my knees to sign one-handed. We were both still adjusting somewhat to the realities of living without our aids that made us seem ‘normal’ to the wider society – but we were both also happier without them. Clint’s headaches were all but none-existent, and the pain in my shoulder was significantly reduced without the constant muscle engagement. We were both less grumpy, better fathers and husbands than we’d ever envisioned ourselves being. But, coming up to the third anniversary of our first date, we’d realised it’d been a very long time since we’d had any time just the two of us. With two kids under three and five (six, in Clint’s case) other partners to keep amused, there just weren’t enough hours in the day – not to mention our residual Avenger duties, and taking the kids to the compound to keep the team happy. But here we were, in the middle of the National Park – no more than an hour away from home, just in case – with a tent, a cooler full of beers… And a bag I’d kept from Clint’s eyes, packed with things to make our evening more entertaining. “Do you think they’re doing okay?” he mused as he finally maneuvered the poles into place, frowning minutely. I stood to wrap my arm around his waist, my chin finding his shoulder. ‘They’re absolutely fine, honey. I promise. And we can be there in less than an hour if we’re needed – hell, I’m pretty sure if it was an actual emergency, Steven would be hunting us down.’ His head tipped back with a soft sigh, leaning into the curve of my neck. “I know, I know. I just… I haven’t spent a night away from the kids since they were born. It feels weird not to have Artemis climbing something she shouldn’t, or Apollo wanting an extra story before bed…” I smiled fondly, nuzzling into his hair. I couldn’t deny that I was preoccupied with the same thoughts – but if I too let myself dissolve into worry, we’d end up leaving before the tent was ever erected. ‘Well, the Spiders and Steve will take good care of them. They love those two crazy kids as much as we do, sweetheart. Everything is gonna be okay.’ With another sigh, he nodded, turning to wrap his arms around my neck. “I know you’re right. It’s just weird being away from them, you know?” My lips found his softly, reassuringly, hand at the base of his spine to pull him closer, occupied by holding him and forcing him to lipread. “I know. But I plan to keep you plenty occupied, don’t you worry.’ “Oh?” He grinned broadly, pressing gentle kisses along my jaw and eliciting a quiet purr. “Mhm. Can’t remember the last time we weren’t in earshot of the kids, too…” My fingers tightened, digging gently into his waist to hold him more firmly against me, and he whimpered gently in response. “Intending to have your way with me, Sergeant Barnes?” he breathed, whining when I pulled his hair to expose his throat to my teeth and tongue. “Always, Hawkeye,” I murmured, nipping gentle bruises into the soft skin over his pulse before shifting away, leaving him panting lightly. “But I think you have a tent to finish assembling first.”
It was still half-light by the time we’d made camp, so we decided to head down toward the lake, the cooler hanging between the two of us. “I wish I had both hands so I could sign,” I grumbled, making him roll his eyes good-naturedly. “If I had my hearing aids, you wouldn’t have to,” he pointed out. “But they’re at the bottom of a very deep lake, and your arm is only for emergencies these days. And we’re both better for it… Right?” he added, a minute frown flickering across his face. “Right,” I agreed readily. I didn’t regret my choice most of the time, but moments when I couldn’t sign to my husband were endlessly frustrating, even now. “I’d far rather lipread on occasion than either of us suffer.” He leant over to kiss me lightly, and I grinned, eyes flicking to the side automatically at the shimmer of dying sunlight on water reflected on his face. “I’d far rather see you wet and naked than fully dressed right now, Barton.” With a soft laugh, he left the cooler on the sand, heading toward the water as he worked on his clothes. The sight of the exposed skin of his back spurred me into action, jerking eagerly at my belt and kicking off my shoes haphazardly as I stumbled forward. By the time I’d caught up to him, he’d already shed his jeans, and turned to me with his thumbs hooked into the waistband of his boxers. “Care to do the honours?” No sooner had he spoken than I was on my knees, tugging hungrily at the material. Polycules and toddlers didn’t leave us much time for the simple pleasures in life, and I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been able to take my time with him – sex these days was typically quick and dirty, often stolen in a layby after running an errand or with one eye on a monitor to make sure the kids were okay. It’d been some time since we’d been truly intimate, and even longer still since we’d done so just the two of us. I certainly can’t remember the last time I did this, I noted, trailing the very tip of my tongue over his length slowly, one hand tanging in my hair to ground himself as he let out a low groan. “I can’t remember the last time you did this,” he breathed, making me smile as I took him between my lips patiently, revelling in the feeling of him getting harder on my tongue. “Fuck, I forgot how goddamn good you are, James…” With a soft purr, I bobbed my head slowly, sucking pre-come from his tip before drawing away and making him whimper. “Now, now…” I murmured, standing to kiss him deeply and feeling him tremble at the taste of himself on my lips. “We have all night, my love. I intend to take my sweet time with you.” His hands fumbled as he unbuttoned my jeans, sliding my shirt over my head as I kicked them free, his fingertips trailing the ragged scar at my shoulder and eliciting a shiver. “What if I don’t want to wait?” he whined, palm pressing against my half-hard cock through my boxers, making me hiss through clenched teeth. “A needy boy, aren’t you?” I chuckled, smirking when he nodded desperately. “At least let us get back to the tent, honey. I doubt any of our partners will be amused at having to pick us up from a police station for indecent exposure.” Clint met my eye, grinning, and we snorted in unison. “Yeah, okay – Ashe would probably get a kick out of it.” Our most deviant Spider would almost certainly be delighted by having to fetch us after being caught fucking on the beach – if anything, they’d simply be sad they missed the show. With a light-hearted sigh, Clint stepped back, placated by the promise of a long night to come, waving a hand as his feet found the water.
I would be a happy man if I never stopped staring at him, I marvelled, watching the last of the twilight dapples fade from his still-damp flesh. I don’t know what I did to deserve him. “You’re staring,” he murmured without opening his eyes, one hand shifting to take a long sip of his beer. “I can’t help myself,” I replied honestly, rolling onto one side to survey him more thoroughly. “You’re breathtaking.” He was lay stretched out on a towel beside the campfire, the leaping shadows cast by the flames dancing over his tanned skin, coloured by the years spent on our farm and running around in fields, chasing child and dog alike. A light blush dusted his cheekbones, barely perceptible in the low light, and he offered me a lazy smile. “I don’t know how you keep your hands off me.” “Neither do I,” I agreed, moving to lay beside him, palm smoothing over his chest. His eyes closed automatically, a smile pulling at his lips as my fingertips brushed his abdomen. With a soft, happy sigh, I closed my fingers around his half-hard length, leaning closer to kiss him lightly. “I’ve missed this,” I admitted quietly. “I love our life, but…” He nodded, shifting closer to me, one hand tangling in my hair. “But sometimes you miss having a little more time to ourselves?” I nodded back, and he grinned, lips brushing mine. “We have two kids, sweetheart. I think every parent misses having more time to themselves – even when there’s a whole hoard of them to keep the kids entertained. There’s nothing wrong with that. And I’ve missed you too,” he added, shifting his hips infinitesimally closer, one eye opening to find mine. A low growl resounded in my chest, and I moved quickly, my hand finding his wrists and pinning them over his head to keep his body extended and still beneath me. He let out a soft whine of delight, neck straining to seek my lips with his, but I simply straddled his waist, letting my cock nudge against his teasingly. “My poor, neglected Hawk,” I murmured, tracing my lips along his jaw. “It’s been so long since you  had me all to yourself…” He nodded frantically, writhing beneath me and pushing himself closer, making me smirk. “You know, I’ll still never forget the very first time you fucked me – the day we announced Artie to the team, with the Spiders’ eyes on you as you realised just how good I felt wrapped around your cock…” He swallowed dryly, nodding again, his lips parted with need. “I- I didn’t expect- I didn’t think it would be so… That you would be so…” “Amazing? Incredible, flawless, irresistible… Tight?” I added, dropping my voice to a whisper and rutting my hips gently against his. “All of the above,” he gasped, back arching. “Please- God, it’s been so long. I need you, James.” His words fanned the flames burning in my abdomen, and I surrendered with a groan, claiming my mouth with his hungrily and rutting against him, lost in the sensation of his cock pressed against mine. “Want to fuck me, baby boy?” “God, yes,” he groaned, wriggling beneath me once more. “Please- Please, Buck- James, I-I need-” He didn’t get chance to finish his sentence as I shifted my hips, lining him up against my ass and grinning as his eyes grew wide. “Don’t you- Should we-”
My fingers released his wrists and found the small bag I’d packed, quickly pouring a copious amount of lubricant in my hand as his eyebrow raised in interest, neck straining to peer into my bag of tricks. I smirked, kissing him softly. “I’m a big boy, Clint…” My hand slicked over his length, eliciting a shiver, and I let his tip slide inside me slowly, revelling in his trembling, taut body, eyes blown wide as I took his cock patiently. “Mm- and so are you… God, I forgot just how big you are, Hawk…” His fingers found my hips, guiding me along his length, panting softly in pleasure. “I forgot how tight you are, James… Fuck, you feel incredible- I can’t believe how long it’s been since w-” I cut him off with a twitch of my hips, eliciting a sharp groan, his fingers clenching in pleasure as I rode him patiently. My hand moved automatically back to my bag, retrieving a length of rope and a rubber ring. Clint’s eyebrow raised, and I grinned as I tugged him upright, passing the rope around his torso and securing his wrists to his chest. “No touching,” I breathed, pushing him roughly back to the dirt and sliding his cock free, eliciting a whine of frustration, hips straining as best they could to bury himself back inside me. With a soft, soothing hush, I slid the ring along his length, revelling in his whimper of revelation. “James-” I leant forward as I took him once more, kissing him gently and smothering the whine on his lips. “Easy, sweet boy… I don’t want you finishing too quickly, do I? I’ve waited a very long time for this…” My hips twitched, and he gasped quietly, head tipping back in his trussed-up pleasure and frustration. “Fuck- G-Good idea, I… I don’t think I’d-” My hand wrapped around my own pulsing cock as I shifted more quickly, letting out a quiet groan of pleasure. “Fuck, Clint, I forget how good you make me feel…” My back arched as I made the most of his vulnerability, knees clamped to his hips as I worked myself eagerly atop him, already growing ragged and frantic as his tip brushed the vulnerable bundle of nerves when I buried him inside me. “Too good- Christ, I don’t know how long I can-” “Please, James,” Clint rasped, hips twitching desperately, his eyes alight with pleasure when I cut myself off with a desperate whine. “Please- I want you to come for me. Please, sweetheart.” His eagerness and hunger for my ecstasy spurred me along, my fingers tightening around myself as my muscles trembled desperately. “Clint- fuck, I-I-” The words faded into a groan of euphoria as I clenched around him, every inch of my body taut and shaking as I found my climax. He moaned happily as my seed painted his chest, fingers flexing with need, his hips moving as best they could to guide me through my orgasm with sweet care. My body was still quivering and weak as I untied his hands – but he knew the drill well enough, knew that my fatigued form wasn’t a signal for him to stop, but merely to take control and use me like the worn-out sex toy I loved to be. My cheek met the dirt as he pinned me, hands on my hips as he pulled me roughly against him. My own seed was still dripping from his chest as he buried himself inside me, slickening my skin and trailing over my ass. “That’s it, James – keep that ass nice and high for me, that’s a good boy…” I whined under my breath as one hand tangled in my hair, jerking me back against him. “Think I’ll need this ring a little longer if I don’t want to fill you up just yet…”
“We have all night,” I noted, turning my head so he could read my lips, the words coming intermittent and panted as he pounded against me mercilessly. “Pl-plenty of time to recover, t-to go a-ah!-again- fuck, yes, just- just like that, Clint, please!” My cock was filling again already, and his hand shifted to grasp my stiffening length, jerking me in time with his eager thrusts. “I can tell how much you’ve missed me, baby – so desperate for me to spent all evening buried in this tight ass, hm?” I nodded desperately, enamoured by the low, filthy chuckle the motion elicited. “Don’t you worry, my sweet boy; I’ll make sure you’re good and satisfied before we head home.” He pulled out briefly, making me whine as I pressed back, feeling empty and lost – but his tip quickly slid back inside me, bottoming out fully without the ring wrapped around him and causing my fingers to dig into the dirt desperately. “This is what you’ve been waiting for, hm? So needy, so eager for me to fill you up?” I nodded again, rutting back as he slammed into me with bruising force, his hand clenched around me. “Fuck- James- I can’t, I’m-” “Please,” I whimpered, joyous tears pricking my eyes as he unmade me. “Please, Clint. Fill me up. Use me. I’m yours.” His cry was almost feral as he emptied himself inside me, hips never slowing until I spilled yet again, lost in the sensation of his hot seed being fucked further into me and leaking around his cock as he groaned contentedly. “Fuck- That’s it. That’s it. I’ve got you, sweetheart.”
I lay with my head on his chest in the dirt, still panting softly, the both of us naked, slick with sweat and sticky with our seed as he caressed my hair gently. ‘I’ve missed this,’ I signed, my movements muted and tired, but no less happy, and he kissed my forehead  with a hum. “It’s nice to get away every now and then,” he agreed, holding me a little tighter. “…Though the swim now seems a little redundant, huh?” I grinned as I raised my head, leaning forward to brush my lips to his lightly. “I’d say let’s go again, but I’m sure we’re going to get plenty more filthy before the night is over.”

Happy 95th anniversary to NASA astronaut James Lovell In 1962, US Naval aviator James Lovell was selected in NASA astronaut group 2 “The Next Nine” and flew onboard Gemini VII, Gemini XII, Apollo 8 and Apollo 13. Note he wore his personal Rolex GMT-master 1675 aviator wrist watch on an Oyster bracelet in this June 1967 photo with US President Lyndon B. Johnson. Anno 2023, James Lovell remains the second oldest living Apollo-era astronaut, just 11 days younger than colleague Frank Fred Borman. (Photo: AP/NASA)

Launch Announcement
When I laid out my goals for 2023 in January this year, I mentioned how I had ambitions to make a feature film called Empty Pages. It would be an anthropomorphized version of Laika and the Sputnik 2 mission, showing her fate as the first animal to ever go into orbit with tragic results. I picture it being an animated adult drama, influenced by movies like When the Wind Blows, Apollo 13, Titanic, and the Plague Dogs. I’ve been quietly planning and preparing it for well over a year at this point. I had to research historical details, learn how to make a screenplay, constantly revise the writing, design the characters, get feedback from friends, etc. With today being the anniversary of the real Sputnik 2 launch, it’s only fitting that things go public now.
The first phase of work is just about done. A new draft of the screenplay is in progress, and I’m feeling confident that it’ll be a good foundation to build upon. So the next phase of work, which I’m calling Project Star Dog, will have four main parts to it:
1.) Storyboarding the entire script from front to back, and editing the stills together into a full-length demo reel for the movie.
2.) Hiring a cast of freelance voice actors to dub over the storyboards and create guide tracks for all the main characters’ dialogue.
3.) Composing a full soundtrack for the storyboards, potentially with professional music software if I can afford it.
4.) Adding basic sound design, foley, and audio mixing to the storyboard reel as the finishing touches.
On top of all this, there’s also character model sheets to make, environments and props to design, concept art to draw, and trying to get the word out. The voice actors will be by far the costliest part, and so far I’ve been saving up my own money to afford them when the time is right. I’ve set up new social media accounts to help promote the project and share updates on it as I go. If my current plans work out, I hope to have this storyboard reel finished by the end of 2024. I’ll most likely post it to YouTube once it’s ready. What will happen then? At this stage it’s too early to tell, and I’ll be honest and say I’m not sure where it could go from there. But until then, getting a full storyboard reel is the priority, so that’s what I’m putting everything I have into.
Although I picture most of this being a solo project for now, I’m more than open to collaborating with other artists and creators to help speed things up. If you think you have something to offer the project, send an email or DM me at any of the links listed below. I don’t have a ton of money to spare, but I’m willing to work out payment agreements for anything that could help artistically. Even just following one of the accounts or sharing things around would be an enormous help for getting this campaign as far as it can go.
Online indie animation is currently in a renaissance. Things Helluva Boss, Lackadaisy, Murder Drones, Digital Circus, etc. are paving the way for a new era of the medium. Combine that with the long-overdue victories won by the WGA strikes this year, and the future feels brighter than ever for the scene. I want to try throwing my hat in the ring with a story I hope will connect with people, and emotionally resonate with them. The process of getting there will be hard and time consuming, but at this point, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

NASA 50th Anniversary Documentary, hosted by Neil Armstrong (2008)
(Features era-appropriate popular music interspersed with the footage, giving us cool moments like the STS-1 launch set to Van Halen’s “Jump”, the Hubble Space Telescope with “The Power”, and, very appropriately, “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” for Apollo 13.)

Anyway, you know that post about how we should celebrate the anniversary of the moon landing? Well, I'm doing it.
I'm drinking out of this commemorative cup:
Tumblr media
which is so cool, I love it. Apparently they just made these and these were a cheap collectible one could get at, like, gas stations. Wild! I also have the one for Apollo 13. I found this one at an antique shop for a reasonable number of dollars.
Also, I'm doing another theme week, who doesn't love a theme week, that's right it's Space Week. I tried to get like a good mix of space themed sci-fi and like actual science space films, so we'll see.
The Last Starfighter (1984)

Oh no, the opening credits are so swashbuckling. I'm guessing this will land between "excruciatingly tacky, but probably in a way I like" and "likely to make me cry over something dumb".
