He's invited to their engagement party. Levi doesn't know if it's a cruel joke or a horrible misunderstanding. Quite frankly, he's not sure what's worse. He decides not to go either way. He doesn't think his heart can take it. And he doubts he'd be a welcomed guest there anyway.
But then Moblit visits their office. He doesn't come to Hange, doesn't bring flowers or other gifts. No, he goes straight to him.
"Can we talk, Levi?" he pocks his head inside, smiling slightly. The smile is painfully awkward, and yet endlessly sincere. What a fucking sweetheart, Levi thinks bitterly. So different from him. Perhaps, that's why Hange chose him in the end.
"What do you want?" he grunts, staring at his computer screen and trying to appear busier than he actually is. But Moblit either doesn't get the hint, or doesn't care. Wearing that same damn smile, he walks further into Levi's office and sits down on a chair that stands by his desk.
"It's about the engagement party," he gets straight to the point, almost leaving Levi breathless. The audacity... And he thought the other man was a sweetheart. "You're the only one who didn't give an answer..."
Levi hopes Moblit doesn't ask for his reason. Calling Hange's fiance a fucking moron would probably destroy what little relationship they still have.
"I know your history with Hange isn't the simplest one..." the smile falters for a second, but doesn't leave Moblit's face completely. "But she still holds you in high regard. She would want you to be there for her."
What an insolent fucking bastard. Wants him to be there? Wants to have his heart ripped out, more likely. Levi doesn't believe Hange is that cruel.
But if what Moblit tells him is true... If Hange really wants him to come, then he simply has no choice. He always had trouble with saying no to her, after all.
He makes this hard decision surprisingly easy.
"I'll be there, don't worry," he tells Moblit.
The man beams. He reaches out and catches Levi's hand, shaking it heartily. "Thank you so much," he says. "It'll mean so much to Hange, and I just want to make her happy, you know?"
More than you'll ever know, Levi thinks.
But, truth be told, he doesn't understand Moblit. If he was in his place - and there was a time where he almost was - he would never invite Hange's assholish ex to their engagement party, he'd rather kick his ass, and hard. But, perhaps, that's the difference between them, the difference that made Hange choose Moblit over him. Moblit places her happiness well above his own. And Levi can't thank him enough for that.
He can try, though.
"Thank you as well," he murmurs, and for a moment, Moblit's eyes fill with confusion. But then that second passes, and he seems to understand him, and his gaze softens, as he gives Levi a small nod.
"See you soon," he says, and leaves Levi's office.
He stares at the closed door for another minute, trying to understand what had possessed him to agree to it. To willingly go and celebrate Hange's engagement to another man... Something is definitely wrong with him.
That's called torturing yourself, a malicious voice in his head whispers.
Levi's intent to agree.
***
He realizes what a mistake he made pretty quickly. Two seconds after entering the café Moblit had rented out for the occasion, to be exact.
He walks in, sees Hange and Moblit in a middle of a room, dancing, while everyone cheers on them, and wants to walk out immediately.
The song choice is awful as well. He always hated Walk the Moon.
He's still by the door, and, maybe, if he leaves now, no one would notice. He almost turns back but then-
Then he remembers.
She would want you to be there for her
With a deep sigh that gets lost in a loud beat of music, he walks inside. He moves as discreetly as possible, avoiding everyone's curious eyes, as he tries to find a seat in the deepest, darkest corner of the café.
He finds it, fortunately. And, surprisingly, someone is already occupying it. His eyes widen, as he recognizes Petra. Soft-spoken and sweet, she can't exactly be called a life of the party. Yet for her to be hiding in the corner... It's a little bit strange, Levi can't deny it.
His thoughts about Petra are chased away when a new song comes in.
Oh, her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they're not shinin'
God, if there is someone he hates more than Walk the Moon, it's Bruno Mars. The song is fitting though, he can't deny.
She is perfect just the way she is.
He turns away from Petra and heads for the bar.
He orders vodka on the rocks for himself, and - because he can be a gentleman sometimes - he also asks for a cocktail that is so sugary it can probably give one cavities for Petra.
When he sits next to her, handing her a drink, Petra smiles and thanks him. A faint blush colors her cheeks too, but Levi ignores it, churning it up to the poor lighting of the room. He ignores Petra's attempt at conversation as well, gladly he has all the reason to - the music is too loud to hear anything else. For once, Levi is thankful for that.
Petra keeps glancing at him, though, and the red on her face gets more prominent, and with a deep sigh Levi turns to her.
Petra is pretty, incredibly so. Only a blind wouldn't see it. Only a blind wouldn't see her obvious crush on him as well. Petra is sweet and pretty, maybe, he should talk to her. Maybe, it'd ease some of his heartbreak. Not all of it, obviously. Only one person can do it. The person who is still twirling around with the man who is not him.
His hand is almost reaching to her, his fingers are almost at her forearm, when a fucking photo montage begins.
Set to A Thousand Years.
He curses and bolts out of his place. Even he is not masochistic enough to watch hundreds of photos with the love of his fucking life in the arms of another man.
He walks outside and takes a deep breath. His tense muscles relaxe instantly when the sounds of music and laughter and delighted cheering fades away. He leans against the bricked wall and directs his gaze up to the sky. Stars aren't visible yet, the wind is slightly too harsh to be standing in just jacket and shirt and he forgot his cigarette pack, but Levi chases those complaints away.
He's almost content and he intends to stay this way, but then-
The door opens, and Levi turns to it with a scowl, thinking that it's Petra who decided to follow him. He realizes his mistake immediately, and his breath hitches, when he is met with those brown deep eyes.
Fuck.
He swiftly tears his gaze away, suddenly extremely aware of his heartbeat.
"Sorry!" Hange chuckles, the sound too hollow to be genuine. Out of the corner of his eyes, Levi sees her running a hand through her hair, messing it up even more. "I didn't wish to-"
"You didn't," he breathes out. He closes his eyes for a second, mustering all of his courage, and then looks up at her. "The street is wide enough to fit both of us. Stop being an idiot, four-eyes."
The nickname slips easily from his lips. It is only after he said it, only after he sees the shaken expression on Hange's face that realizes he hasn't called her that ever since their breakup.
He doesn't acknowledge his mistake. Bringing it up now means opening another can of worms he's not sure he can get through. Having Hange so close to him is already hard enough.
"Why aren't you inside?" he asks, attempting to sound nonchalant and not getting even close to achieving it. "A fience shouldn't skip her own engagement party. Especially when the photo montage is on..."
"Oh please," Hange huffs. "I stared so much at these photos while we selected them, I am getting sick just by looking at them. Besides," she pouts. "Moblit didn't let me share our private photos."
In spite of himself, Levi chuckles. "Are you saying photos like that exist?"
Hange snickers too. "Oh god, of course, they do not. I think Moblit would have a heart attack should I even offer to take a photo like that."
"So you're saying your fiancé is boring?"
Hange scoffs, and elbows him in a side. "I'm saying he's orderly."
"Same thing," Levi shrugs, and Hange laughs.
His treacherous heart skips a beat. Something warm spreads through him, as he listens to Hange's laughter. It grows warmer and spreads further, until it feels like he's enveloped by a sunlight - he's content, relaxed and happy. Hange always had such an effect on him.
She was the only who ever did.
"Thanks for coming," she tells him, after her laughter subdues. "I know it's probably awkward..."
"It's fine," he shakes his head.
"It's good to see you, Levi," a smile plays on her lips, the sweet and soft one that Levi always thought was reserved exclusively for him. He wonders if that is still true.
"It's good to see you too," he murmurs. "I'm glad you're happy, Hange," he adds, looking at her. There is a stray lock of hair right next to her nose, and he gently pushes it away, tucking it behind her ear. "If you need anything, know that I'm here for you. I always will be."
He turns away and leaves after that, before he does something stupid like confess his undying love.
That's probably the last thing Hange wants to hear anyway.
He walks inside the cafe and returns to Petra's side. He looks at her, the words "want to ditch that shitty party?" almost at the tip of his tongue. But then Hange walks back in and their eyes meet across the room. She lifts her lips in a smile and tentatively raises her hand, waving at him. Levi nods, fighting back a smile of his own. His eyes still soften, though.
The hand he had outstretched towards Petra falls limply to his side.
Maybe, she'd help him forget, maybe, she'd ease some - not all, obviously - of his heartache.
But, apparently, he's not a complete asshole, because he can't do it - not to Petra, not to himself.
Not to Hange.
He lifts a glass to his lips and turns his gaze to the small stage. There Moblit is telling some story - either about their first kiss or their first date, Levi doesn't listen to him at all. Instead his eyes are focused on Hange - the faint blush on her cheeks, her glistening eyes, as she keeps laughing, laughing, laughing. Their gazes lock for a second, and her eyes turn just a little bit brighter.
At least one of them is happy. Levi revels in that.

Part 2 of my really long oddly specific levihan now family fic no one asked for
(part 1 is right here)
Context for this: I'll be using Sophie's (aka drinkyourfuckingmilk) levihan children ocs, but made a few tweaks (here's more info on Samson and Leelu here)
Their personalities are still the same (well, I might tone down their crackhead-ness just a bit) the only difference is their birthdays, and instead of being 1 year apart, they're a few minutes apart, and Samson is the oldest twin by 5 minutes XD.
So...this is going to be REALLY long so be prepared for that.
Ok enjoy!
- Levi came up with the name Sam but Hange thought it sounded basic, so she came up with Samson.
- Levi also came up with Leighla, and then Hange started calling her Leelu as a nickname.
- Samson was a pretty loud baby as Leelu was pretty quiet, however she does get aggressive.
- Leighla once almost slapped Levi in the face when she was hungry.
- Samson makes weird noises whenever Levi is around, and he look at him confused, which made Samson giggle.
- Hange and Levi switch nights to watch over the twins.
- I can imagine Levi singing them to sleep and it actually works.
- Sometimes, Hange would watch from the door.
- Hange would ramble on and on about her experiments to the twins, despite Levi telling her they're not going to get it since they're babies and to at least wait until they can talk.
- When they take the twins outside, Samson would look around the environment they're in, meanwhile Leighla sleeps.
- Hange's parents came to visit to see the twins and offered to babysit them since Levi and Hange looked like they haven't slept, so they let Hange's parents babysit them as they catch up on some sleep.
- Kuchel and Kenny visited at one point to see the twins as well, and Kenny almost dropped Samson bc Samson wanted to be tossed.
- Levi was pissed but held back bc his mom, Hange and the twins are there, however, he didn't let Kenny carry him for awhile.
- The twins took a liking to Erwin, Mike, Nanaba, Moblit, Nifa, Farlan and Isabel.
- Samson and Leighla would sometimes pull on Isabel's pigtails.
- They also pulled Mike's hair and Leighla would lightly slap his face. Levi was amused by this.
- They were surprisingly calm when Erwin and Farlan held them. The twins would just stare at them and then lay on their shoulder.
- Nanaba played peek-a-boo with them and they seem to enjoy it.
- Moblit was a bit hesitant holding the twins, but they took a liking to him bc they started giggling.
- Samson took a huge liking to Nifa.
- Levi didn't feel comfortable with the twins around the 104th squad until they could stand (at least) bc he's afraid either they'll break the twins or the twins will break them.
- Mikasa asked about meeting the twins when she was helping out at the tea shop and went home with Levi to see them.
- Mikasa let out a soft smile as the twins started babbling to her and tried to touch her hair.
- She would try to get them to say her name but failed every time.
- Both Samson and Leighla are pretty active babies. Once they were able to crawl, they would crawl all over the house to the point where Hange would chase after them (she had fun chasing them around though and would praise at how active they are).
- Levi definitely baby proofed the house (and the tea shop)
- Once Hange was able to go back to work, Levi would take the twin to the tea shop to watch over them. They would be in the playpen in his office.
- Petra, Olou, Eld, Gunther, and Eren played with them a lot and gave them a lot of attention.
- As they were nearing their first birthday, the twins learned how to walk (or waddle) .
-Levi would watch them from afar in strict dad mode (aka how he usually is) but later eased up a bit.
- He gave the 104th kids a VERY stern warning to behave (specifically warned Jean, Eren and Connie), be gentle with the twins and made sure that their hands are clean.
- Samson loved the attention he was getting, meanwhile Leighla felt a bit overwhelmed until Armin carried her, she started to feel at ease.
- They occasionally enjoy Connie's silly peek-a-boo face.
- Sasha ate their baby snacks "on accident."
- Jean and Eren would bicker who the twins likes more, but turns out they like Armin, and Mikasa the most.
- Sometimes Ymir and Historia will join the 104th squad and play with the twins.
- Marco sometimes like to watch them crawl around and they'd chill on his lap sometimes.
- One time, Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie came into the tea shop and at first, they were confused on what's going on until they saw everyone was playing with Samson and Leighla.
- Samson and Leighla saw Bertholdt and started making grabby hands towards him.
- Bertholdt was a bit nervous, but held them anyways.
- When Bertholdt tried to give them back, they would NOT let go.
- Leighla did not like Annie. She got pretty aggressive when Annie tried to hold her at one point.
- Samson would poke Leighla repeatedly on her face to get her reaction until one time he accidentally poked her eye. She started to cry out of pain and then punched Samson in the face and he started crying.
- You can imagine how that went for Levi and Hange.
- Leighla and Samson were playing with the 104th squad and Leighla wanted Armin to carry her so her first word was Armin.
- Mikasa totally wasn't salty about that.
- The whole squad was freaking out and Armin felt honored.
- Leighla felt proud of herself.
- Levi was about to tell everyone to keep it down, but when he heard Leighla say her first word, he felt so proud of his little girl. He didn't show it, but when he took her to his office to feed her, he softly smiled at her and basically had a little father-daughter bonding time.
- Hange basically twirled her around screaming how she can now talk and smothered her with affections.
- The family was walking in the park, with Hange carrying Samson and Levi carrying Leighla. Samson spotted a butterfly and pointed at it saying bug.
- Hange started squealing "that's my boy!" and then gave a huge lecture on butterflies.
- Even though Samson has no idea what the heck she's saying, he seemed interested.
- Levi sighed, but gave Samson a soft smile and a pat on the head.
Toddlers- 4 years old
- They would make a mess in the living room bc they like to throw pillows at each other.
- Levi obviously scolded them and taught them how to pick up after themselves and where to put their toys away. Remind you they were toddlers.
- At least they learned where to put their toys and didn't scatter them onto the floor.
- They LOVE listening to Hange ramblings, especially Samson.
- She made bedtime stories more interesting, the twins looks forward to that.
- Levi would cuddle them close and listens to Hange telling them bedtime stories.
- Leighla really likes fairy tale stories, I would say her favorite would be Cinderella.
-Idk why, but I feel like Samson would like Alice in Wonderland, actually, they both like Alice in Wonderland.
- Hange would tell them the Grimms brothers version of the fairy tale classics, and although they were fascinated by it, in the long run.....that wasn't a good idea.
- Levi told Hange she shouldn't do that, but ofc, she didn't listen (spoiler, he gave her the "I told you so" look after an incident later in the future)
- Things started getting really busy at the tea shop, so grandma Kuchel would watch over them and they LOVE her, she's so sweet. She would tell them Levi's childhood stories.
- Isabel once babysat them and it was pretty chaotic. They made a blanket fort with her and they would cuddle up watching a movie together, it was so cute.
- Levi wasn't really happy that he's gonna have to clean that up but it was cute and the twins are in one piece so he let it slide.
- Hange took a picture.
- The twins liked riding on Mike's shoulders bc he's so tall.
- Nanaba would sometimes chase them around (idk I thought it'd be cute)
- One time, Hange brought her kids to her work and they wandered off.
- Luckily, Moblit found them in the lab staring at Hange's guinea pigs, Sawney and Bean.
- Moblit took them out for a bit so they can hold them.
- Hange came barreling into the lab out of breath and panicking to Moblit that she can't find the kids, only to find them playing with Sawney and Bean and Moblit.
- Hange ended up rambling about Sawney and Bean to the kids and went into too much detail.
- Nifa saw them playing with Sawney and Bean and decided to join them.
- When they go to the tea shop, Levi would lecture them on what rules to follow, things like not running around, disturbing the staff, steal pastries and don't exit the tea shop.
- Sometimes staff would make them iced fruit teas and give them a cookie to snack on.
- Connie would teach them how to do pranks. He had them one time sprinkle salt into Jean's tea and uhhh Jean spit it in Eren's face which resulted in a fight.
- Levi broke it up and was furious at Connie and the twins.
- He made Connie and the twins apologize and clean up the spill.
- He gave them a really strict lecture when they got home and uh, lets just say that was the first time they've seen Levi genuinely mad and it scared them a bit.
- Their punishment is to clean that they have to do house chores and help out with the tea cafe, they can't be with the 104th squad for a week.
- Hange bursted out laughing when she heard what they did, but stopped when she saw Levi wasn't happy.
- She could tell Levi had a stressful day, so she snuggled against him to comfort him.
- She saw the twins peaking from behind the entrance of the living room and called out to them to join them.
- They hesitantly went to into the living room and sat on the floor next to Hange.
- "What's wrong kiddos? Come here, don't be shy, it's just us."
- Samson and Leighla both squished each other on the left side of the couch and kinda hiding behind Hange.
- Hange picked up what's happening and brought the kids closer to them and gave them a pep talk.
- "Kids, I know you feel scared and guilty, but you know, even if you guys messed up, your dad and I still love you very much ok? And it's ok to make mistakes, it happens to the best of us, even you're perfectionist of a dad messes up sometimes, especially when we first got together but that's another story for when you kids are older. Anyways, the importance of making mistakes is that we make them so we learn from them and grow as people. And in the lab, we make mistakes or errors, but we don't give up, we learn from those errors and study past errors in order to find a way to thoroughly run an experiment and come to an accurate conclusion, there's this one experiment-"
"Hange, I think they get the point."
"Right, so in short, it's good you feel sorry for what you did, and it shows you genuinely care, but even though there will be times where we're going to have to be tough on you, we'll always love you ok?"
- Samson and Leighla apologized for their earlier actions and Levi apologized for yelling at them, and cue the sweet family bonding time on the couch.
This got way too long so part 3

Scavenger Hunts
Words: 1971
ao3 link Summary:  Ivor, Harper, Jack, and Nurm have been given scavenger hunt lists by Petra and Jesse, but why? Notes: LOOK I KNOW IT'S PAST 12 AM BUT IT'S TECHNICALLY 10 PM PACIFIC TIME. I HAD WORK. Anyways, enjoy!
“You know, I’m starting to get tired of this wild fox chase.” Jack groaned as he fumbled with the piece of paper that would lead him to a “secret prize, in three weeks (which was, of course, today) only” as stated by Petra in her correspondence a few weeks prior. Nurm hummed lazily in response as he continued to mark locations on his map, unaffected by the stress of figuring out the answers to the clues to the scavenger hunt Petra had created for the two. Jack sighed, “I know, I know, but it’s been months since the last time we’ve seen her, Nurmie. I’m just- I don’t know. I know I shouldn’t be worried about her, but you how I am. I miss her, we haven’t gotten to see her all day because of this stupid scavenger hunt, and I have no clue when’s the next time she’ll be in town, an-” Nurm grumbled at Jack, indicating that he needed to just calm down for a second. Jack sighed once again to calm down his nerves. He might’ve been overreacting a bit.
Jack glanced at the pumpkin and enderpearl he had already gathered. “I just don’t see the point of this. Petra’s never done anything like this before. Why today? Do you think they found something while they were out adventuring and wanted to create hype to impress us?” Jack paused, then smiled fondly at the thought. “Doesn’t she know we’re already proud of her?”
Nurm hummed in agreement, Of course she does. She might just want to shake things up, although I will say that today-, Nurm trailed off. Jack stared at his husband for a moment, waiting for him to continue, but when he went back to studying his map of Beacontown, Jack realized he had no intention of picking up where he left off. Was today special?
=========================================================================
“Ivor, seriously? You haven’t seen Jesse in months and you’re going to go dressed like you robbed a zombie villager?” Haper asked a very, very frantic Ivor who was currently wearing nothing but a (well-loved) bathrobe and hopping on one leg as he struggled to put on his shoe.
Ivor finished putting on his shoe and glanced down to his attire. “What? Both of you have already seen me in my underwear! I don’t think my bathrobe’s going to kill them considering how everything… and everyone… that’s already tried has failed. Including me. Twice.”
“Still. We have to go into town to do this… scavenger hunt? What’s that all about?” Harper asked, pulling a quill out from behind her ear in preparation, studying the list in front of her. “What the heck is a ‘block of a cheated deal?’ Does that mean anything to you?” she asked as she scrunched her face in confusion.
Ivor hummed in concentration as he collected his potions (you could never be too careful) as he mulled over the question. He planted a quick peck on Harper’s cheek as he began to walk towards the door. “I think I have an idea of what that means,” he stated with a wink as he made his way out the door, ready to solve the puzzle he had been presented.
“But you apparently still have no idea how to dress. Change into something decent if you’re going to been perceived by strangers, love,” Harper punctuated with a face palm, failing to hide the smile creeping on her lips.
=========================================================================
“Looks like we’ve got most of the items, Nurmie. I hate to say it, but I think I’m actually pretty good at this. Looks like my adventurer’s intuition still runs in my veins. That or I’m still plain awesome,” Jack boasted as they made their back to Jack and Nurm’s Adventure Emporium to have a quick break and focus on the last item on the list, items in hand. “Although… I still don’t know what we’re supposed to do with all of these things.” Jack glanced over each item: an enderpearl, a stack of snowballs, a few baked potatoes, a sponge, a couple of pieces of zombie flesh, and a pumpkin. He hoped the quantities didn’t matter too much, because he lost all of his enderpearls when his shop was ransacked during Romeo’s reign in Beacontown and the price of a stack was not cheap.
Nurm rolled his eyes at his husband’s gloating. Jack playfully nudged the cartographer in the arm and scoffed in fake offense. Jack continued to walk and study the items he was currently carrying until he realized that the villager’s footsteps had ceased. Jack turned his head to look at Nurm with confusion at the random stop, until Nurm spoke. Jack, is that…? The villager gestured in front of them and tilted his head. Jack followed his gaze to find… Ivor and Harper outside the Adventure Emporium. What were they doing here?
=========================================================================
“Ivor! Harper! Hey!” someone shouted to the couple. The two spun around to find… Jack and Nurm! Perfect timing! The retired adventurer jogged up to the two and shook their hands in greeting.
“Jack, it’s been forever!” Ivor exclaimed. “How’s Petra? I know she and Jesse are supposed to be in town today.”
Jack sighed and shook his head. “We haven’t seen her at all today. She gave us this list of items that we’ve had to find, but we’re confused on what the last one means. How’s Jesse?” “I’m afraid we’re in a similar situation ourselves,” Harper stated plainly. “We’re almost done, though. It’s weird, all of these items are so… seemingly unrelated. Do you think they have any connection?” She nodded down at her own items: a block of redstone, an assortment of stained glass, an iron axe, a block of lapis, a few fireworks, and some soul sand. “We had to solve a bunch of crazy riddles to find the items we were looking for.”
“Sounds exactly like we were doing,” Jack stated as he showed the other couple his own items. “Did Jesse put you up to this?”
Ivor studied the items in Jack’s hands for a moment and then flicked his eyes up to meet Jack’s. “Yes, that’s correct. I’m assuming Petra did the same to you?”
“Correct you are, my friend.” Jack answered. He put the items back in his inventory before gesturing to the two of them and then to the building. “I see that you’re standing outside our shop. Is there something you need?” he inquired.
Harper spoke up. “There is, actually. I’m not well-versed in anything non-mesa related, and Ivor thinks the final clue has something to do with adventuring. Do you know what item the clue ‘the big finale let you soar’ is hinting at?”
Jack grinned. “I think I have an idea.”
=========================================================================
“I appreciate your help very much, Jack,” Harper thanked the retired adventurer as he handed her the second-to-last item on her and Ivor’s list: the elytra Jesse used to fly to the tower from the Admin episode.
“It's no problem. Now if only Petra could tell us what our last clue means. Nurm and I have been trying for the past few hours to crack it, to no avail,” Jack admitted with a defeated tone.
“What is it? We might be able to help. Actually, we've been scratching our darn heads at our own final clue. I don't have the slightest idea what ‘where it all began’ could be in reference to.”
“Ours is similar. ‘The first unhelping hand?’”
Ivor crossed his arms and closed his eyes in thought, lightly tapping his foot and humming. Nurm did the same, and slightly bit his lip. Harper chose to unconsciously chew on her quill, resulting in her gagging slightly when she got a mouthful of feather instead of the wood of her normal pencil and blushing, hoping no one else saw her do it. Jack opted to spread both lists and all items out on a nearby table and study them intently.
After a few minutes of silence, Nurm chirped and all eyes fell on him. Jack listened intently to what he had to say. Jack, think about our adventure all those months ago and look at the items we've gotten so far. Do you see a coincidence?
Jack glanced at the items and the lists. “Yeah... yeah! The sponge for the Sea Temple, the snowballs for the Icy Palace of Doom, the zombie flesh for the Sunshine institute, I think the pumpkin is for the golems everywhere, the enderpearl for the giant enderman, and the potatoes for that stupid password! Ugh, I cannot believe it took me this long to realize what they had in common. Harper, Ivor, are your items similar?”
Ivor dashed over to the table “Why yes! Of course! How could I have been so blind? These items line up perfectly with the many adventure I had with Jesse! Could this mean...?” Everyone watches Ivor study he and Harper’s list in anticipation. “I think I know what ‘where it all began’ is! The ender dragon egg! Without that, I would have never created the Witherstorm, and Jesse would've never saved the world and I would’ve never gone on those many adventures!”
“And I would still be in Crown Mesa, trying to avoid being chipped,” Harper commented with a sad tone in her voice.
Ivor nodded. “And I would’ve never…” he trailed off, eyes finding the floor the most interesting place to look at at the moment.
Jack gave an acknowledging grunt and closed his eyes “In that case, do you think that ‘unhelping hand’ could be the Ad- Romeo’s gauntlet Jesse found that made them and Petra seek us out in the first place?” Nurm nodded in agreement. Jack opened his eyes and grinned. “Well, I think we all know where those two items are.”
Everyone looked between each other and then spoke in unison. “The Order Hall.”
=========================================================================
“What happened to all the darn lights in this place? I thought this place was supposed to be ninety-percent windows? I’m not going crazy, right?... right?” Harper asked as the group walked inside the Order Hall, treading carefully in the unusual darkness that was only broken by the light cast through the open door.
“It’s been a while since we’ve been here, Harper. Radar was left in charge after Jesse took off too seek out adventure with Petra and that llama. Maybe the man just has… peculiar taste. I did build my lab inside the Farlands myself, you know,” Ivor commented.
The group continued to trudge quietly through the Order Hall, careful not to trip over anything or anyone. After a few steps, the group heard a click, and Ivor, Harper, and Jack each drew their swords they carried for protection. Jack spoke up in a whisper “Quickly, get behind me” and the rest followed the instruction as best they could.
Everyone tensed, their breaths held, frantically glancing around the room, searching for any signs of life. It felt like an eternity, but only a few seconds after the click, the sounds of retracting pistons could be heard all around the four. Jack shuffled, preparing himself for any potential attacks, survival instincts kicking in action, ready to do what it took to protect his friends and husband, he-
The pistons finished retracting, leaving the Order Hall basked in the evening sky’s light. All four members of the group blinked at the brightness, adjusting their eyes. Once they could see again, their sight was filled with a few things: Jesse holding the ender dragon’s egg, Petra holding the Sea Temple gauntlet, a giant table full of food between the two New Order members, and Lluna in an (admittedly adorable) chef hat behind the table. Ivor, Harper, Jack, and Nurm stood in stunned confusion, until Petra and Jesse broke the silence with giant grins on their faces.
“Happy Father’s Day!”

From the hug prompts: a sleepy hug, for any character you choose, please :)
You inspired an entire story, thank you!! I’m excited about this. Posted on AO3 here, if you’re interested! Basically: Kirkwall's burned, and Hawke has to lead their friends through the Marches with the Chantry and Starkhaven's army on their tail. It's two long, hard weeks to get to Fenris' contacts in Wycombe, and the physical exhaustion and terror may not be the hardest challenge ahead of them. There is so much they have all hidden from each other, and it is past the time to talk it out.
The trek to Wycombe was exhausting. Isabela’s ship had been run aground and commandeered by templars associated with the Starkhaven army. They had to bundle Anders and Merrill out in coffins, conveniently left empty. Varric had thought it was hilarious. Anders was less amused. The first inn they stopped at wouldn’t take elves, either, and Hawke had to be talked out of making a scene. “Enough,” Merrill says, exhausted. “Let’s just get to the woods. We can take turns keeping watch.” Hawke eyes their friends. Fenris and Isabela are half-carrying Anders, who took a Smite and a slash from a templar’s sword. Aveline’s hair is singed from getting in the way of Bethany’s fireblast, and Varric has been muttering to himself the entire time. Out of all of them, he is the one who should have remained in Kirkwall. Aveline would follow Hawke to the ends of the earth, and has, but Varric has no skin in this game. Except these are his friends. These are their friends. “Fine,” Hawke says. “But what’ll be there? Half the mages in Kirkwall, and half the templars too. It’s not going to be an easy night.” “It’s never easy,” Fenris says. “We need to get moving. There’s a cave the Underground uses that’s too far. Hopefully it’s not too full.” Hawke is too tired to be annoyed. They stride on ahead, hands on both their daggers, while Varric covers them from the back. They should not be angry Fenris knows more about Anders and his Underground than them. They should not be angry their two best friends kept them well out of their riskiest enterprise--planning a revolution to free the slaves of Thedas. They understand they wanted to protect them, after Leandra was killed. They know that, intellectually. But they’re upset, they almost feel betrayed. They knew Anders was planning something, and they had guessed it was huge. They weren’t an idiot, they knew what sela petrae could do. But they had thought he would tell them about the Underground before Fenris. For the love of the Maker, they had a sister in the Circle! They had spent their whole life hunted, because of the Chantry’s hatred of mages. Anders could have trusted them. He should have. Aveline says, “You’re upset.” Hawke says testily, “Is it so obvious? Kirkwall’s on fire, we’re on the run, and Anders might be dying. And I don’t think a dragon lady is going to drop out of the sky and save us this time.” Aveline touches their arm. “We made it through Lothering, Hawke. We survived the Deep Roads. The Qunari. It’s not going to end here.” She releases a shaky breath. “Maker’s breath, I won’t let it end here. Not until I can pummel Fenris for not telling me.” “Ah,” Hawke says. “I’ll join in.” “I can hear you,” Fenris drones from the background. They trip off the main road and into the woods now, and it is safer to talk about what they have just survived. “It was all need-to-know, and you didn’t need to know. Once we found out Meredith requested the Rite of Annulment, we had to act quickly.” “Yeah,” Varric says, “but you didn’t have to blow up the fucking city.” “Oh yes,” Fenris says. “I should’ve just let them kill Bethany and Anders, and continue to enslave the Tranquil.” “I’m not saying that!” Varric snaps. “Yes, you are,” Bethany mutters. “Can we not fight right now?” Isabela says. “Like, can we wait til Anders isn’t bleeding to death on me at least, before we all turn on each other?” “No one’s fighting,” Aveline says reproachfully. “Everyone is,” Bethany says darkly. “You’re not helping,” Aveline says. Hawke says, “Andraste’s ass, everyone. Chill.” This is not as bad as their mother blaming them for Carver’s death right over his body, Bethany staring wide-eyed while Aveline buries her own husband. They have been through worse. Still, it’s not a walk in the Viscount’s Garden. “Fenris, you’re the only one who knows where this cave is. I’ll take Anders. Bela, you cover him. Merrill, help me out here.”  Anders is not really conscious. Hawke hefts him onto one shoulder, and Merrill takes his other arm, and together they drag him through the undergrowth. He’s muttering to himself, and it doesn’t sound like Common. “Do you think Justice has taken over?” Hawke mutters to Merrill, hoping Varric can’t hear them. “I think he’s put himself in a healing sleep,” Merrill says. “Tricky, that. I wonder who taught him. I didn’t think Andrastians trusted the Fade enough.” A ghost of a smile crosses Hawke’s face. “You haven’t answered my question.” Merrill looks at them from the corner of her eye but keeps levering Anders forward. It’s hard work, moving him. They ought to have kept him in the coffin, easier to transport that way. Hawke laughs to themself. And if he dies, they could’ve burned and buried him right there. The grieving could come later, like it did with Carver. They reach a mossy cliff-face. Fenris is looking up, frowning. Hawke and the rest catch up. Carefully, they put Anders down. Aveline changes his bandages, glowering at the state of his wound. Clouds are gathering ahead and the night is coming dark and fast. They haven’t enough food, either. Hawke puts their head in their hands for a second, trying to calm themself down. They’ve spent their whole life being chased. This is nothing new. Merrill puts her arm around them silently, and they listen to Fenris, Bethany, and Varric quarrel. “We use these caves to smuggle escaped slaves from Tevinter,” Fenris says stiffly. “I trust this network with my life. They have saved my life.” “Yeah, well, Feynriel said that about Samson, and look where he ended up,” Varric says. “Blondie needs medical attention. He needs rest. What makes you think these people won’t just sell him out? Just because they were good to you doesn’t mean they’ll protect the rest of us, too.” “Varric,” Bethany says, “you don’t know a thing about Samson and Feynriel, so please. Please. The less you know about the mage underground, the better. It’s safer for us that way. But trust us. We’re not walking into an ambush, I promise. But we can’t tell you more than that. I’ll go first up the cliff if that makes you feel better.” “That doesn’t, Sunshine,” Varric sighs. He rubs the bridge of his nose, as if he has a headache coming. He probably does. Hawke doesn’t blame him. “Fine. But I can’t believe you kept this secret from me. Broody, I thought you hated mages.” Fenris says, “I’ve been sleeping with Anders since the riot at the docks, Varric.” Isabela calls over, “Doesn’t mean you like him!” Fenris gives Hawke such a look of exasperated despair that they laugh. They shake Merrill off and take charge, because clearly no one else is going to, and as they quibble Anders continues to bleed, and they are not sure what Justice will do next. “How do we get up there?” Hawke says. “I’m assuming it’s up the cliff. I don’t think Merrill can levitate us all up. Do we have enough rope to climb it?” It’s Isabela who scales the cliff like she’s been doing it all her life, knotting a harness up and throwing it down to carefully pull everyone up. They load Anders onto Aveline’s back and tie him to her. Varric freezes halfway up, afraid of heights, but Isabela and Fenris just yank him straight in, and he screams so loudly the birds fly from the trees. “Well,” Bethany says, “so much for being discreet.” “We carried them out in coffins, Bethany,” Hawke says. “And then Merrill jumped out and dragged Anders up, still breathing, and then pranced down the street. We are incapable of being discreet. We have never been discreet. Even in Lothering, people thought we were weird.” “I blended in, thanks very much,” Bethany bickers. “Anyway, you go up. I’ll spot you. Please.” Hawke opens their mouth to protest but Bethany glares, and they back down. “All my life, you’ve tried your best to protect me. Let me have your back this time. Please.” It is difficult to say no to her, so Hawke trusts in her magic, and climbs up. Of course Bethany has their back. They clamber up the rock, shaking with exhaustion. Varric wasn’t irrational to scream. The rope burns their hands, the moss makes their feet slip, and the stone itself is cold. They drag themself over the final foot, and Isabela helps hoist them up. “Bethany, hurry up!” they call back down. She looks small, from all the way up here, and she’s never been one for running outdoors, not like Carver was. Bethany huffs, grabs the rope, and marches herself up, less winded than Hawke themself. “Fast enough for you?” Bethany asks. Hawke just smiles back, relieved. They hug her and Bethany rests her head on their shoulder. Kirkwall was supposed to be the end of it all, but at least they have each other. Isabela gives them a moment before taking them deeper in the cave. It’s well-provisioned, and even painted, in a distinctly elvhen style. Representatives of a mad wolf flank the mouth of the cave. Hawke reaches out to touch it, but Isabela shakes her head. They head in, wondering. Some of the depictions are maps, another is of the constellations, and a few are just name: ƛήτω, Ϝα⍴ɑνɩα, and then an alphabet they didn’t recognized. Hawke points to it. “What’s that?” “Sindarin,” Merrill says shortly. “The oldest language on this land. I can’t read it, Clan Sabrae is from what you call Antiva. Fenris would know better than me.” In the back, Aveline and Fenris have taken out the blankets and constructed almost a pillowfort for Anders. Varric is rummaging through various jars, sniffing at them suspiciously. They’ve changed Anders’ bandages and are setting up for the night. Hawke is gripped by a fierce rush of love. They’ve survived worse. They’ve found shelter for the night, and food, and medicine. They will get through the night, and perhaps that means they can get through the day as well. “How many caves are there like this?” Varric says, peering into a terracotta jar painted green. “Is this all Dalish? Or do the mages use them too?” “It’s the underground,” Fenris says quietly, fingers on Ander’s neck. He is checking his pulse. Merrill witches up some fairylight, and the scene grows positively cozy. “Everyone who needs them uses them. Varric, don’t ask me anymore. You don’t want to know.” “You keep saying that,” Hawke says, “but we really want to. We’re your friends, Fenris. After everything we’ve all been through together, some transparency would be--decent.” Anders shifts suddenly. He cries out. Fenris focuses in, and Aveline turns over and shakes her head at Hawke. They let out a short, angry burst of air out of their nose, like a horse, and exchange a glance with Varric. “Let’s just get some sleep,” Aveline says. “It’s a fortnight of walking before we get to Wycombe. We need to preserve our energy.” Hawke backs down, and they set up camp. Fenris sits by Anders’ bedroll, holding his hand now. That is yet another thing the two would never talk about--Hawke knows they killed a guard and had to hide out for awhile, and it has something to do with the riot at the docks last year, but Merrill advised them not to pry. Hawke leans against the cave wall and closes their eyes. Bethany wouldn’t write about how bad things were in the Circle, Aveline wouldn’t talk about how bad things were getting in the guards, and Varric kept dodging talking about Bartrand and their parents. They’re tired of the silences. They all know each other too well, to ignore this. Varric sits down heavily next to them. His face is gray with exhaustion. Hawke, half-asleep, wraps him in a hug. Varric sighs into their embrace. Everyone is silent. Even Isabela is quiet. They drift off to sleep, holding onto their friend, and when they wake up in the pale morning, Varric is still at their side, Bethany drooling on their shoulder, and Isabela is using their legs like a pillow. They smile slightly. They have made it through the night, and now the morning seems possible.

Remember the sothis paralogue? Can you do that for the Child!Byleth AU

Tales of the Red Canyon (FE: Three Houses Short Fic)
Child!Byleth Professor AU
Sothis and Byleth travel back to the Red Canyon due to some loose ends the two have with the location, and Dimitri, Claude, and Edelgard, alongside their classmates, follow them...
-----
Sothis stood from her throne, pacing back and forth desperately trying to recall the name of the canyon they fought the bandits at.
Desperate to remember, she called Byleth’s name and summoned him to her throne. Although he was asleep physically, he still seemed extremely drowsy in his head.
“Ah, there you are child!”
“Ugh, what is it...?”
He rubbed his eye as she reached for her head in annoyance.
“This is frustrating me to no end! Do you recall the canyon where you first fought with the children?”
“...Zanado?”
“Ah, yes, Zanado!”
“What about it, Sothis?”
“Well, that place brought back fragments of my memory! I cannot help but wonder why. I feel we must return to find the answer there!”
“I see...Well, considering tomorrow is a freeday and it’s only a day’s trip, I suppose that’ll be fine.”
“Good! We shall leave in the morning then!”
Byleth nodded, and he disappeared from Sothis’s throne room.
The next morning, Byleth woke up early in the morning and headed out the gates, carrying the Sword of the Creator with him.
As he left, Dimitri slowly stepped from behind a pillar and watched him walk off to who knew where.
(Dimitri) “...I’m assuming you’re curious as well, Claude?”
Claude stepped out of a dark corner and stood besides Dimitri.
(Claude) “Yup. Not like the little teach just to walk off anywhere without saying something. What do you think, Edelgard?”
Edelgard walked behind them crossing her arms and furrowing her brow.
(Edelgard) “It is quite odd, indeed. I suggest we tell the others and pursue.”
(Claude) “I’ll keep an eye on Teach then. Go get the guys.”
Edelgard and Dimitri nodded, running to the dorms while Claude slowly tailed Byleth.
Much Later...
(Sothis) “It’s...all coming back to me. These structures...Oh, but it’s as if my memories are clouded. The most important places obscured...”
(Byleth) “Are you able to tell what kind of place this is, Sothis?”
(Sothis) “I...once called it home. But, I have no idea why. Perhaps it’s on the other side of this wall?”
(Byleth) “Hmph. All right then, let’s-”
GRAAAAAAGGGGHHH!
(Sothis) “Huh?! What was that awful noise?!”
(Byleth) “Beasts. From the sounds of it, it’s no ordinary one either.”
He pulled out his sword and turned around, seeing a massive creature coming from the entrance.
It was also then he heard footsteps behind him.
(Dimitri) “PROFESSOR!”
The Blue Lions, Black Eagles, and Golden Deer classes stood side by side, getting into formation with their weapons drawn.
(Byleth) “What the, what are you all doing here?!”
(Edelgard) “I’d like to ask the same, professor but I do not think we can afford much time to ask!”
(Claude) “Yeah, plenty of beasts are coming from where you entered. This oughtta be fun!”
As he saw the overwhelming odds, Byleth calmly asked Sothis inside his head,
Sothis, you got the info we needed, right?
(Sothis) “Y-Yes!”
Good.
(Byleth) “Everyone, listen up! I have a plan.”
Everyone turned to see their tiny professor with a calm face. Awaiting their next orders, everyone nodded.
(Byleth) “Now, first things first, no one abandons each other, got that?”
(Edelgard) “Of course!”
(Dimitri) “We’re going to have to fight together, right?”
(Byleth) “No, it involves using our legs!”
Everyone looked at him funny, but the fact his face didn’t move a muscle meant that he was serious. Patiently, they waited for him to continue.
(Claude) “Whatever it involves, we’ll be right behind you teach!”
Byleth took a deep breath as he calmly stepped in front of the classes, looking over all of them as the beasts drew closer.
He activated the whip and took out a massive pillar behind him, separating the view from the monsters coming at them and when it landed, Byleth shoved everyone he could in front of him backwards.
And then, his calm face erupted into pure panic.
“EVERYONE, WE GOTTA BOOK IT! GET MOVING, DAMN IT!”
At first everyone was confused from the shoving until they heard the pillar move behind them.
Then, Bernadetta was the one to shout common sense.
(Bernadetta) “WHAT ARE WE STILL DOING HERE? R-RUN!”
(Dorothea) “I-I’m with Bernie! GET THE BUTTS MOVING PEOPLE!”
(Petra) “I AM GO!”
(Ferdinand) “B-But I can’t prove my superi-”
(Hubert) “IF YOU HAVE TIME TO SHOUT IDIOTIC THINGS, THEN YOU HAVE TIME TO RUN!”
(Caspar) “I-I WANTED EXERCISE TODAY, BUT NOT LIKE THIS!”
(Linhardt) “I DIDN’T WANT TO EXERCISE AT ALL!”
(Mercedes) “B-Byleth?!”
(Annette) “MERCIE, GO!”
(Ashe) “Oh dear...!”
(Sylvain) “Are you serious?!”
(Felix) “I came here to fight, not ru-”
(Ingrid) “GET YOUR ASSES MOVING YOU TWO OR I SWEAR I’LL KILL YOU MYSELF!”
(Dedue) “Your highness, we must make haste!”
(Hilda) “WHY DIDN’T WE JUST CALL OUT THE PROFESSOR’S NAME BEFORE WE GOT HERE?!”
(Marianne) “P-Please stop shouting and run!”
(Raphael) “IGNATZ, HOP ON! WE GOTTA GET THE HECK OUTTA HERE!”
(Ignatz) “B-But...! Ugh, I can’t run that fast anyway, LET’S GO RAPHAEL!”
(Lysithea) “This is your greatest strategy!? RUN AWAY?!”
(Lorenz) “You may question his logic, but I for one completely agree with it!”
(Leonie) “LESS TALKING, MORE RUNNING?!”
(Dimitri) “B-Byleth?! U-UH! RIGHT, EVERYONE LET’S MOVE!”
(Edelgard) “What kind of sick joke is this?! He acted all calm and that’s the answer he provides?!”
(Claude) “In hindsight, I probably should’ve seen this coming when he said use our legs instead of fighting!”
(Byleth) “QUIT PISSING AROUND AND GO!”
The House leaders jumped at his aggressiveness, but agreed. All three houses ran in complete terror as a unified whole.
(Sothis) “WHAT KIND OF PLAN IS THIS, BYLETH?!”
A GOOD PLAN, NOW SHUT UP AND MAKE SURE EVERYONE’S SAFE! WE’RE GETTING THE HELL OUT OF THIS DEATH TRAP!
(Sothis) “W-Well...! Thank you for helping me with my memori-”
YEAH YEAH, NO PROBLEM! SHUT UP AND LET ME FOCUS!
Although she was in as much terror as Byleth she couldn’t help but smile a bit. He went through all this trouble for Sothis’s sake.
She’d have to remember to thank him when everyone wasn’t screaming in horror as colossal beasts chased them.

Coronation Part 1: New Year, New Mischief
Summary:
It's New Year's Day at the Tower and Fireteam Paralight, along with Cayde, are laughing over the events of the previous night. But when an excited Marcia drags them down to the Annex with seemingly no explanation, they can only wonder what in the name of the Traveller is going on?
Tumblr media
Next Part: Here
It’s been a little over two months since Fireteam Paralight took on the horrors of the Moon with Eris Morn and Marcia Wyverk, and things have seemed to have gotten crazier since. From killing the Undying Mind in multiple timelines to saving the legend known as Saint-14 (and a fan-boy moment from Adam), Paralight have had their hands full. And as the three of them know all too well, they’ll only get crazier from here. But nothing could prepare them for what was to happen… It was New Year’s day on Earth. Even on a cold morning like this one, the courtyard was still fairly busy with Guardians either returning from twilight patrols or heading out for morning ones, while some were just stumbling out to get fresh air while recovering from hangovers caused by the night before. Rae leaned against the Tower railing as she looked out over the City. Rae was never one for alcohol, so she was fully sober the whole night and had the pleasure of remembering all of the…interesting events that played out. Her thoughts were interrupted by a yawn as a sleepy Cayde strolled up beside her, leaning back against the railing. “Good morning.”  Rae smiled. “Mornin’” Cayde mumbled as he stretched his arms. “Told ya not to stay up so late.” Rae chuckled as she shook her head. “And miss the entertainment? No way!” Cayde chuckled as he recalled the events of last night’s New Years party. “Did I miss anything?” Rae asked as she stood up straight. “Don’t worry ‘bout it. From what I heard, Blaze had Firefly record the whole thing and put together a compilation vid.” Cayde reassured, “Though I kinda feel bad for the massive headache that-” Cayde cut himself off as he spotted a very proud-looking Blaze and a tired-looking Adam approach them. “Ah! And here comes the star of last night!” Cayde laughed. “Ugh…what happened last night?” Adam groaned; hand pressed against his forehead. “You haven’t told him yet?” Rae enquired, turning to Blaze. “Figured I’d wait until I was with you guys to show off the finished product.” Blaze grinned as Firefly popped up beside her. “I got all the best bits and put them into a little video for all to enjoy!” Firefly chirped. “Wait…best bits? Best bits of what?” Adam asked, giving everyone confused glances as Stormbringer hovered beside him. “I’m sorry, Adam.” Stormbringer apologised, “I tried to stop them, but they wouldn’t listen.” “Back up.” Adam held up his hands, “What the hell happened last night?” “Well…” Rae began, “After midnight, Saint wanted to challenge people to a drinking contest. And you decided it’d be a great idea to take him up on the offer. He was fine, but…we found out you’re a serious lightweight.” “Oh no…” Adam’s face went noticeably pale, “Please tell me I didn’t do anything dumb.” “If ya didn’t, I wouldn’t have this compilation!” Firefly replied as she began to show the video. It featured Adam giggling at nearly every little thing, marching around while singing in Swedish, going around and telling all the Titan’s that they’re his best friend, including Zavala, Sloane, Shaxx and Saint, and even a clip of him going around with Storm displaying a picture of Petra while Adam told the others to ‘look at his lovely girlfriend’ and how ‘he’s the luckiest Guardian this side of the solar system’. Blaze, Cayde and Rae just chuckled as they watched Adam’s face get redder and redder before the compilation finally ended. “I gotta say, Adam.” Rae began, “You’re quite the extrovert when you’re drunk.” “Please tell me you haven’t shown that video to anyone.” Adam begged. “Nah, I didn’t show anyone.” Blaze grinned as Firefly disappeared. “Thank the Traveller…” Adam breathed a sigh of relief. “But I did send a copy to Petra.” Blaze snickered before running off. “BLAZE, I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!!!” Adam yelled as he took off after the laughing Hunter. “I don’t know who to feel bad for – Adam or Blaze.” Cayde chuckled “She asked for it, in fairness.” Rae shook her head, “Anyway, we should get to our posts before Zavala has our heads.” “Guardians. It does not matter that your head is practically exploding. Get out there and fight the Darkness. War. Poetry. Knitting.” Rae laughed at Cayde’s Zavala impression before suddenly stopping and covering her mouth. “What?” Cayde asked, confused. “As ‘amusing’ as your impressions are, Cayde, it’s time you got back to your post.” Cayde froze up upon hearing the familiar voice of the Titan Vanguard behind him. “A-aha! Right! See ya, Zavala!” Cayde grabbed Rae’s arm as he took off towards the Hanger, leaving Zavala shaking his head before heading to his own post. ——————————————————————— “Happy New Year, Amanda!” Rae greeted as she and Cayde entered the Hanger, Colonel fluttering over to Cayde before nestling in his arms. “Mornin’, you two. Happy New Year!” Amanda called from under the Sparrow she was working on. “Good morning, comrades.” Rae heard Saint call as he descended the steps of his ship. “Morning, Saint. All good after last night?” “Ha! Last night’s contest was child’s play. Although, I cannot say the same for Adam. How is he?” “He has two headaches.” Cayde replied, setting Colonel down on the ground before following Rae to Saint’s ship. “Two?” Saint asked, confused. “Yeah. One’s in his head an the other he’s chasing around the Tower.” “Ah yes! The little Hunter that was filming. Blaze, yes? Which reminds me, what is the name of the Hunter with the little mark under her eye? Black hair, scars on the cheek.” “You mean Marcia?” Rae asked. “Yes, that’s it. I saw her looking about the hanger earlier.” Saint replied, “She seemed excited about something.” “Uh oh…” Rae began, “When Marcia gets excited over something, that thing’s usually not something good.” “There you are!” Rae and Cayde jumped upon hearing Marcia’s voice echo through the hanger. Marcia rushed over to them from the hanger entrance with a beaming grin on her face, “You two. With me. Annex. Now!”, grabbed their arms and began dragging them away. “Okay, this is happening then!” Cayde exclaimed. “See ya, Saint!” Rae called as they were dragged out of the hanger. “Is it always like this here?” Saint asked. “Yup. Pretty much.” Amanda replied. ——————————————————————— “Hurry it up!” Marcia dragged Cayde and Rae down into the Annex. “Can you at least tell us what you’re up to?” Rae asked. “Nope. Not now. Not here. Too many ears. It’s bad enough I need Vanguard help for this, but I need as much help as possible.” Marcia replied, before shooting a glare at Cayde, “Plus, a certain someone still owes me for their stunt a few months back.” Marcia dragged them into Drifter’s room in the Annex where he was there with Adam and Blaze – the latter having a noticeable bruise on her forehead. “He caught ya?” Rae asked. “He caught me.” Blaze replied, “Worth it, though.” Rae rolled her eyes playfully as Marcia finally let go of her and Cayde. “So mind telling us what you’re up to now?” Adam asked. “She didn’t tell you guys either?” Cayde asked as he watched Marcia rush about the back of the room. “Nope.” Blaze shrugged, “We asked Drifter, but he hasn’t a clue either.” “All I know is that she’s been running ‘bout the solar system ‘investigating’, as she puts it, since you got back from the Moon.” Drifter replied, tossing a coin into the air, “When she got back last night, she began rushin’ about the Tower saying stuff like ‘I got it!’ and ‘How’d I not think of this?’” A small crash was heard from the corner of the room followed by a small “Ow!” from Marcia. “Hey, be careful back there, yeah? I like my mess where it is.” Drifter called behind him. “Sorry!” Marcia called back as she emerged from the corner with a rolled-up map, “Okay, so ya’ll know how I’ve been getting those power surges, yeah?” she began, “Well, I didn't get the answers I was looking for on the Moon. But I think I know where to take the next step...and I'm gonna need some good ol' Paralight backup!" Marcia unravelled the map, “This look familiar?” “Is that…the Dreadnaught?” Rae asked. “Is that one of my maps?” Cayde added. “It’s a COPY of one of your maps…that I stole…and then put back…so it’s technically borrowed. But that ain’t the point!” Marcia replied, “After we got back from the Moon, I came to the conclusion that while it wasn’t the Pyramid that was causing the surges, it was definitely the Darkness or something similar. So I travelled to different patrol zones to see if I could see if anywhere provoked a similar reaction. I got nothing, until I arrived on Titan. My surges began to act up again and that got me thinking ‘Okay, so it’s not the Hive…so does it have something to do with the orbit around Saturn?’. Then I looked up and noticed that I could see Saturn from there…and a certain ship still hanging out in its rings. That’s when I had a serious ‘Duh!’ moment. It’s the Dreadnaught! The ship of the Taken King himself! In fairness, I should’ve figured it out from the start.” “So what do you need us for?” Adam asked. “I wanna get up there and find answers.” Marcia began, “But I can’t go up there alone. It’s Taken central, for Light’s sake, and it’s still teeming with Hive and some Cabal stragglers. There’s no way I can take ‘em all on my own, even if I didn’t have unstable power surges to worry about. So I need some capable hands to watch my six. Drifter’s already offered to tag along, but I knew I’d need more on board. So I figured ‘Hey! I’m on good terms with Paralight! And Cayde owes me. So why not?’. So what do ya say?” “Yeah, no.” Rae replied as she turned to walk away. “That’s the spiri- wait, what!?” Marcia exclaimed as she darted in front of Rae, “Why not?!” “The Vanguard have prohibited patrols on the Dreadnaught since the Red War. And I’m not getting my Fireteam in trouble nor am I putting them in danger because you want to go on a suicide mission.” Rae replied sternly, “Besides, what are we getting out of it? I’m not putting my friends at risk if there’s no outcome for us.” Marcia sighed before her expression turned serious, “Okay. I’m going to tell you something, but it’s to remain in this room at all costs until this mission is over, yeah?” “I’m listening.” Rae raised an eyebrow. “I…have a hunch of what I might find up there. It’ll be one of two things. I don’t wanna say what outcome A is in case it turns out to be outcome B, which is I become fully Taken or lose all control of my powers or something. If outcome A happens, though, it could be a major turning point in this war. If outcome B happens…I need people I know can put me down if I lose myself…people I can trust. Which is why I need you to help me with this. Please.” Rae stared at Marcia for a moment. Marcia had a stern and serious expression on her face, but Rae could see in her eyes that it was masking the fear and desperation she felt inside. Rae turned to Cayde and the rest of her Fireteam. “We’re in if you are, Sunrae.” Cayde spoke. Rae sighed in defeat as she turned back to Marcia, “Alright. We’re in.” Marcia’s face lit up as she grinned, “Hell to the yeah! Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! Get prepped up and meet me back here at 8am sharp tomorrow. We got a ship to storm!” Marcia darted out of the room while whooping in excitement. Rae sighed, "What did we get ourselves into...?" To Be Continued…

Warnings: not actual spoilers (that's a warning), tension, makeout, language
A/N: first of, I feel like I should make this clear again THIS DOES NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS BUT IT IS BASED ON A PART OF A SCENE OF THE MOVIE. Also, DAMN I enjoyed writing this. Also, it soothed the pain caused by the movie (thanks Nicole Kidman, you lovely human being, for destroying my heart). Anyway, enjoy <3.

I lay down on the sofa, giving Chris a brief glance to check on him. A while ago, I could have just asked him since all the party noise would have covered our voices, but it all had gotten really quiet.
People had slowly left, and in the house there were just a few people left. Silas, sitting on the armchair; Petra and that other girl, checking their messed up makeup in the mirror; Toby, playing some random video game; Chris, sat right behind Toby, and Arturo, who was coming my way in the moment.
"look what I found" he shook the pack of beers on his right hand, a mischievous grin on his face.
"reinforcements" I extended my hand for him to give me one. "nice, I needed it" I opened the one he gave me and took a sip.
When Arturo made a hesitant attempt to sit besides me, I moved my leg for him to have more room. "looking gorgeous today, Y/n" he said, half cuddling me.
Arturo was kind of pinning over me, I knew it. I sometimes, if I was in a playful mood, would lead him on. He knew I 'was with Chris' —even though we weren't actually together—, so there was nothing else apart from teasing and light flirting.
Chris, however, to pretend, most of the times would play the jealous boyfriend card, but right now he was distracted.
There was someone who was noticing it, though. Silas had his eyes on us, and, if I only had noticed it before, I would have stopped.
But I hadn't.
I jumped at the loud thud that sounded right besides me. When I turned to it, I saw a small gun on the floor.
"Arturo" Silas called the boy besides him. He tilted his head to the gun with a sick smile on his face. "let's see if your time has come?"
The room, now silent, was filled with anxiety and tension.
I tried playing it cool, but the fear in my eyes gave me away. I knew I was being too obvious when Chris decided to intervene.
"fuck it, Arturo" he said carelessly, not looking at anyone, but at the joint he had just rolled. "don't do it" he added, lighting up the joint before giving it a puff.
"it's none of your business Chris" Chris replied at Silas' statement with a gesture of indifference while he let out the smoke. "C'mon Arturo, grow a pair. Don't wanna play?"
I knew things were about to get worse than expected when Arturo got up and grabbed the gun from the floor.
"there he goes" Silas commented, letting out a dark chuckle. "c'mon, come here and look at me in the eye."
I stole a glance at Chris, who was subtly staring at me with almost unnoticeable nervousness in his eyes.
"Wait" all of them turned to me. "he doesn't wanna do it." before Silas could protest, I gave him a knowing smirk "doesn't have what it takes"
"sweetheart, it's done" Silas made himself more comfortable before looking at Arturo again. "someone gotta play now, so go ahead"
I wasn't going to allow that to happen.
"I wanna play." I stated, standing up. "and I definitely got what it takes" I made my way to then, noticing how Chris' breath hitched, making him swallow the smoke and causing him to cough. "c'mon give me the gun"
Arturo gave me the gun, not before looking at Silas for approval. "Okay sweetheart" the man sitting before me let out a chuckle. "same rules. Gun against your head and eyes on me"
"Silas, c'mon" Petra, who had stayed silent until then, spoke with a trembling voice. "don't- babe, let's drop it."
"Nope, babydoll" the man replied. "c'mon Y/n, make the roulette spin, will you?" it took me a second, but I managed to made the cylinder spin without looking at it. "atta girl."
"baby, quit it" I heard Chris voice, but I didn't really listen to it. "leave it, c'mon" I took a deep, shaky breath, and, when I felt my eyes watering, I pulled the trigger. "Y/n!"
Nothing happened.
I exhaled, tossing the gun to the floor and shutting my eyes. "Y/n, sweetheart, you're nuts." Silas started to laugh, giving me a surprised look. "it was loaded. You can't let people tell you what to do like that" everyone started to chuckle lightly too.
"it has three bullets inside" I turned to Chris, who was holding the gun with the cylinder open. "holy fuck" he managed to feign a laugh and I exited the room, feeling my whole body shaking.
"Chris, go get your crazy girl" Silas said, not able to stop laughing. "go and fuck, she'll calm down!"
I heard heavy steps behind me before a large hand grabbed my forearm, dragging me into a dark room. "what were you thinking" Chris hissed, shutting the door. "what the fucking hell, Y/n?"
"he-" I chewed my lip harsh enough to draw blood, while my back rested against the wall. "there was three bullets, you said it yourself. I knew there was a trick."
"so what?!" he hit the wall besides me, taking a shaky breath "it was damn obvious there was a fucking trick. That's not a reason for you to play the Russian fucking Roulette"
"what if he had killed himself?" I asked, hugging myself in a vain attempt to refrain my goosebumps.
"better him than you"
"Silas gave him the gun because of me. 'cause he was flirting with me" I explained "I didn't want his death in my conscience" I replied, gripping my forearms.
"yeah? Well I didn't want a bullet in your fucking skull and I almost got it" he bit back, choking on the last few words. "do something like that again and you're out"
"you can't fucking do that" I stated. "we're undercover, you can't make me leave."
"fuckin' bet, baby" he growled, trying to pass by me and open the door. He couldn't, though since I put myself between him and the door. "move your ass out of my way, Y/n"
"you really wanted one of the criminals we're chasing to get killed?"
"I swear to fucking God Y/n-"
"Tell me" I shoved him back for him to get away from the door "that you wouldn't have done something like that if you thought it was the right thing to do" when he, instead of replying, growled under his breath with his eyes on the ceiling, I repeated, "fuckin' tell me you wouldn't-"
We heard the door's lock clicking open and I panicked, afraid someone might have heard us.
"fuck"
I took a glance at the door, which was being opened.
"shit" When I turned to Chris again, I barely had time to process that he, with his hands gripping my hips, was backing me against the wall before hurriedly crashing his lips against mines.
"Hey guys- Okay" Toby stood there, holding onto the door frame, for a long minute, watching us making out. "they're fine!" he yelled, turning back to the room where everyone was. "I think they're gonna fuck!- sorry for the interruption, I'll give you some... Privacy"
With that, the door closed again and we were left alone in the dark. It was only when we were sure we were safe, that Chris let go of me.
We stood close to each other, breathing heavily. From my current angle, the moonlight made the tears in his face gleam.
Those tears that I didn't even know were there. Those tears that kept running down his cheeks nonstop.
"what are you fucking looking..."
He went silent when my arms wrapped around him, gripping the back of his jacket with both of my hands.
"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry" I whispered. "but I don't regret it. It was the right thing to do. Arturo didn't deserve that shit, you know it"
"you didn't either" he circled my hips, pulling me flush against him, like I was going to banish. "Goddammit, Y/n. You didn't either" he muffled a brief sob by burying his face deep into the crook of my neck. "God fucking damnit."
"nothing happened, Chris" I mumbled in a shaky breath, bringing him impossibly closer to me. "I'm fine"
"you scared the shit out of me" he muttered under his breath, letting himself rest against me. "I was so fucking terrified-"
"we're alright" I whispered, pulling away to wipe his tears.
After a beat of silence, he leaned on me an planted a tender, careful kiss on my lips. And it was easy to tell that this one wasn't feigned. This one had Chris' actual feelings on it.
"what was that?" I muttered, slightly confused.
"two weeks deep into this and you already put your life on the line three times" he explained with his jaw clenched. "I'll better come clean 'bout my feelings before you do something stupid and get yourself killed." I nodded, not really knowing what to say. "you... Don't have to- we can just keep pretending, it's fine with me" he cleared his throat, fidgeting with the hem of my jacket. "but, just in case, I needed you to know"
I nodded again without letting any word escape my lips. He waited for an answer that didn't come, and after a few seconds, he cleared his throat again and walked to the bed.
I frowned at him sitting on it. "we should wait a bit." he explained "they think we're fucking so-"
"it's gonna make it more complicated" I blurted out, half wining because, damn, I wanted to be with him. To actually be with him.
"why?" he questioned, resting his elbows over his thighs. "because we'll get too attached? Because we'll get hurt if something happens to the other?"
Those questions made me angry because they were, in fact, the reasons I was going to give him. Now that he had said them out loud, I realized they were stupid reasons.
We were already too attached to each other. We would get hurt anyway if something happened to one another.
"Y/n, I need you to say something"
I walked to him, sat on his lap, and caressed both of his cheeks with my hands. "Okay. Let's do this" I replied, pulling him into a kiss that was, by no means, meant to be rough, but ended up being it.
"Listen" he pulled away for an instant to take off his jacket and mine. "don't you fucking dare to play the Russian Roulette ever again."
"Okay" I pulled the tee off my body and tossed it to the floor. "I won't"
"promise you won't do anything stupid" he demanded, leaning to kiss my jaw, just to pull away to throw his shirt besides mine.
"I promise"
"Good" he cupped my cheeks, bringing me closer to kiss my lips. "cause I'm not sure if I'll be able to stay undercover if something happens to your reckless ass"
