Okay big brain energy time: Fatal Flaws edition

(I should be writing an essay so please shout at me for not doing that but also read this and tell me your thoughts first)

What if the demigod's fatal flaws were things they would never be able to achieve? I don't mean like a demigods fatal flaw is that they will never achieve their life goal. I mean like their fatal flaw is a flaw because they never have it.

Let me break this down:

Percy's fatal flaw is loyalty which means in canon that he is loyal to a fault. But what if his fatal flaw is loyalty and that means he isn't loyal to anyone? How would that play out?

Percy who sides with Luke because he sees the power, not because he owes Luke for helping him at camp? Percy who falls into Tartarus with Annabeth because he loves her, not because he is loyal? Percy who kills Bob instead of befriending him in tartarus because he has no loyalty towards the Titan that saved his life? Percy who doesn't go with Hazel and Frank on the quest to Alaska because they saved his life and they asked him but because he has nothing better to do while he waits for Annabeth to find him? Percy who bloodbends despite Annabeth's fear because sometimes love is not enough to stop you? Percy who sides with power of friendship because he gains more that way? Percy who accepts being one of the Seven because he loves his friends, not because he feels it is his duty? Percy who does not warn strangers of the dangers he sees coming because what does he owe them? Percy who accepts godhood because it is new and exciting and he doesnt believe anyone needs him as a mortal? Percy Jackson cannot be loyal to anyone. His values align with his mood not his character. Percy who has no allegiance to any one side because he bases his decisions on what will serve him best. One day friendship is not enough. He must make the decision between himself and others. Many people do not make it out of that deal alive.

Annabeth Chase doesn't have pride in anything or anyone. She is brutal in a way that suggests she will never be satisfied. She is her mother in so many regards. Annabeth who doesn't want to hear the sirens, she wants to join them? Annabeth who doesn't want to rebuild Olympus, what for they never did anything for her? Annabeth who will criticize the gods for everything they should be and is unafraid to watch her death because of it? Annabeth who does not congratulate her friends on their achievements because it is expected? Annabeth who does not even acknowledge her own? Annabeth Chase is not prideful. She knows everyone's flaws and especially her own. She uses them to needle people. She has no pride. She has honesty. It will kill them all.

Nico di Angelo who cannot hold a grudge to save his life. Nico forgives and forgets and it is dangerous because the world is not so easily persuaded? Nico says it doesn't matter that Percy didn't return Bianca safe and sound? Nico now lives with the trauma of losing his only family memeber and turns that blame on himself? Nico who does favors and gets nothing in return because he doesn't know how to ask for it and he cannot hold it against them to not suggest? Nico who gives and gives and gives until he is gone? Nico di Angelo cannot hold a grudge. So he gives himself up to the world who can and when he disappears into whispers of smoke it is done with harbored guilt and his own demise.

• SAINT SEIYA - HOW THE GOLD SAINT + SHION WOULD REACT TO THEIR CRUSH S/O BEING DRUNK AF ? • ( they may be drunk as well...)

PART 1

MU - ARIES GOLD SAINT :

- think it’s funny at first because he is not used to see you like this.

- is happy that you are having fun at the moment but secretly wants to see your face tomorrow when he or the other will tell you what you did and said.

- is not really annoyed by you, whatever the type of drunk you are because he thinks you’re cute in all of your state ( especially the Sad one because you’re often whining about you being single so he can comfort you by telling you cute things he would never said to you if you were not drunk )

- but becomes quickly concern about what you’re doing especially if you are becoming clumsy when you’re dancing or something. ( he doesn’t want you dead because you accidentally overturn Deathmask’s beer on the floor )

- if you feel sick, he is basically the one who is gonna help you by taking you outside so you can breath fresh air. And even if you’re at the edge of vomiting he’ll be there maybe with the help of Aldebaran or some other gold Saints but will never tell you about it because he doesn’t want you to be ashamed in front him.

- is basically the mama friend that doesn’t drunk that much to secretly keep an eye on you

- will never obligate you anything like « stop drunking, you should eat more, go to bed » because he knows you can handle yourself like the beautiful independent woman you are, he is just here in case of something dangerous could happen to you.

- is pissed when someone try to flirt with you.

- a lot of : I am here S/O don’t worry I’ll stay by your side.

ALDEBARAN- TAURUS GOLD SAINT :

- Like Mu he is a mama friend

- adorable and play along with you because usually you’re are both drunk.

- him being a gold Saint he is less touch by alcohol so he can keep an eye on you.

- glaring at everyone who would make you do dangerous thing. But will not stop you if you really wanna do it but trust me he’ll crush the other if you ended up hurt.

- a lot of jokes, love to make you laugh

- will finish your drink if you’re playing an alcohol game and you can’t stand anymore

- lets you win an arm wrestling with him and says : I swear to Hades that I didn’t let you win s/o ! I PROMISE ! ( poor Hades )

- you being drunk you believed him.

- a lot of : you’re really cute being drunk s/o

SAGA - GEMINI GOLD SAINT :

- Well... I don’t really know who is taking care of who with this man

- didn’t want to drink at first ( because of Ares maybe, like you know he’ll loose control and strip lol. Classic )

- watching his Crush drinking with the other will kill his moral because he really wanna enjoy the night with them. But stay in his corner quiet and listening whatever they’re talking until the moment where his S/O crush threatens him to kick his ass if he stay here just eating peanuts. ( you’re really courageous by the way because fuck he can send you to another FUCKING DIMENTION DAMN )

- so everyone noticed him and made him drink something

- Kanon being Kanon provoked Saga by telling him that he is afraid of drinking because he cannot stand strong Alcohol.

- Saga getting pissed by his twin and drank 3 bottles of Whiskey.. and now he is drunk like completely drunk I mean DRUUUUUUUNK AF.

- s/o felling bad because HELL YEAH EVERYTHING IS BECAUSE OF YOU stay by Saga’s side the whole night listening to him apologizing to Aiolios again and again and again.

- also tried to end his life by jumping from a chair. ( Kanon basically said : DO A FLIP bro )

- is hugging his Crush while saying « Sorry Athena » and is extremely affectionate.

- no one is gonna tell him what happen last night because they’re happy that he spent a good night and feels better days by days

Anyway you two are complete chaos.

- Expect him to be drunk af with you. Like really.

- very touchy. like small kiss on the cheek and all because his Logic Is basically « SHE IS NOT GONNA REMEMBER A DAMN THING » but isn’t taking advantage of you don’t worry just small attention then he’ll never do again.

- will do it only if he knows that you’re ( even a little ) attracted to him.

- is pissed when you call him Saga like really and pouts for one hour before drinking again

- a lot of Challengens.

- want a kiss if he wins obviously.

- Always has an arm around your shoulders because he doesn’t want ANY GOLD SAINT TO FLIRT WITH YOU EVEN FOR JOKING BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT A JOKE TO HIM.

- you having to separate Saga and Kanon because FUCK they’re gonna kill each other.

- will Wake up in your room on the floor while you’re still sleeping on your couch and hardly remember the night.

- is more drunk than you and very aggressive toward everyone. Will even glare at you when you’re talking to the others gold Saints.

- will be pissed because HE WANTS YOU TO TALK TO HIM BUT HE IS ACTING LIKE A DICK THE WHOLE NIGHT.

- doesn’t noticed but is a blushing mess next to you

- « can I drink with you ? » « Of course you DumbAss is there a name on that DAMN CHAIR ?! »

- will take advantage of you being drunk to get to know you without mess up his image of the SCARY CANCER SAINT.

- will try to kill Aphrodite because he noticed that deathmask was actually romantically flirting with his Crush and told the others

Send Me a Character: Keith Kogane

im sorry i wrote too much probably i just…really like keith…

first impression: Space Nico di Angelo. basically a moody, angry, lonely outsider who didnt need anybody and was like an antihero. in general i thought he was gonna be like really angsty and sad cause thats what all the fanart of him seemed to be. this was also back when just season one was out, and i thought his whole story arc was about being an alien because, again, fanart.

impression now: still space nico di angelo?? i didnt expect he’d be so caring though, i loved that! like, keith is a loner, but its not cause he wants to be. people just keep abandoning him/getting abducted by aliens and he tries his damnest to keep people together every time he does find a new family. hes such a team player, he just?? loves his team so much?? hes the only one who signs up for that suicide mission, he fights zarkon solo for shiro, and even though it would kill him to lose the team he runs off so he doesnt put anyone else in danger and i just,,, have a lot of feelings about keith. and i really like how, even though hes touch averse, he still craves intimacy and you can especially see it in how open he is with the little touches between him and shiro. he’s also not an angry person i think, hes just been dealt all these bad hands. keith strikes me as someone who couldve been a quiet, but honestly easily content and mild mannered sort of person. he seems more gentle by nature, but you are what the world makes you i guess

favorite moment: the part in blade of marmora when he has the hallucination about seeing shiro–and shiro is literally right there watching. i went through all of season 2 the night it came out and by that point it was like 5 am and i had to stop and wonder if i had fallen asleep caus no way did someone just say shiro was the person keith “most desperately wants to see” i was so damn happy. it also made keith’s fear of losing shiro a lot more visceral, and honestly watching it for me is just painful. seeing shiro and red both lash out and ready to take down everyone in the base to save keith was also amazing. my favorite episode

idea for a story: i was doodling something for this earlier so–little mermaid-ish type au where the reason keith doesnt look galra is cause he made a deal with haggar to get his human form so he could go back to earth with the Champion

unpopular opinion: personally i dont think he’s romantically interested in lance. i also think he and lance would have actually been a lot closer by now if lance wasnt actively pushing him away, which is a shame. in season 2 especially you see the rivalry is more one sided and keith really is trying to make things work. not that i dislike lance for it or anything, but i think his issues with keith are about himself more than keith and as soon as he realizes that things will get a lot better for them both

favorite relationship: i feel like this doesnt even need to be said lmao but sheith definitely sheith. i felt like really conflicted about it at first though cause even when keith is first introduced and rushes in to save shiro i was feeling it but..uh…i was totally dead convinced shiro was a sleeper agent thatd betray everyone lmao. once i came around though i loved everything about their relationship. their history, the mission failure, keith’s time in the desert and the way his voice breaks when he speaks to shiro in that soft gentle tone, the way theyre always so honest and vulnerable with each other, the way shiro sees him as a leader, all the parallels thematically, its just,,, i really like their character development a lot alright

favorite headcannon: i firmly believe keith is a druid in all honesty and even if he isn’t id still insist caus it just makes too much sense to me lmao. i also really like trans keith and ace keith

Sol-

8. did they have pets as a child? as an adult? do they like animals?

Dani Solis, or just Sol to her coworkers, is a mechanic who never quite understood living things. she grew up in outer space and never really had the opportunity to have a pet, although the constant traveling meant she got to see a ridiculous variety of life. When she was a little girl, she would sometimes find a cockroach or other bug on the ship and catch it, keeping it and feeding it until it died. it was never a very satisfying experience, probably adding to her obsession with immortal machines.

35. whats their guilty pleasure? what is their totally unguilty pleasure?

I’d call Eric her guilty pleasure. they would have ended up together if I hadn’t killed him off mid-breakdown. Most people live on a planet, but she doesn’t have one, so to her any sort of truly meaningful human connection is dangerous and off-limits. but she loves him deeply, although it scares her. Unguilty, I’d say shes kind of a hoarder. her bunk is full of knick-knacks from every corner of the explored universe. she spends pretty much her entire salary on it tbh

19. whats their least favorite genres?

if this is about literature, she thinks fantasy is stupid. if it’s music, she loves rap and techno but has never really been able to tolerate slow guitar pieces about how beautiful planet life is. think space-age country.

Hernandez-

45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?

this is a big one for him. Captain Eric Hernandez is a trans man, so for a lot of his life yeah there was a massive difference. but after he transitioned, I would say the main difference would be that the people around him see him as cold, kind of scary. he’s not scary, he’s scared. he sees himself as small and weak, even after he straight up murdered his abuser and took his place as captain. His friends would say he is the strongest, bravest man they’ve ever known. They would be right.

5. Do they have any siblings? What’s their names? What is their relationship with them? Has their relationship changed since they were kids to adults?

He has two sisters and two brothers, I don’t know any of their names. He was very close with all of them and misses them every day. Since he ran away to avoid having to pretend to be a woman his whole life, and then murdered a guy, contacting any of them would have been massively dangerous. He couldn’t even tell any of them he was leaving because he wasn’t out to them. In the version of his story where he’s executed, they all get letters from Sol explaining everything. In the version where he lives, he sends the letters himself.

13. What is their least favorite food?

fish was never available to him as a kid, and he never acquired the taste.

Jericho-

3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory?

this isnt something i get to say about my ocs a lot, but he did. he had a lovely childhood. he grew up with a loving father in a huge, beautiful city where he was free to explore and learn to his hearts content. he has especially fond memories of wandering around the actual ground of the city where basically nobody ever goes, looking at bugs and mold and plants with his little junior scientist magnifying glass, looking them up on his computer-band. the worst ones were probably nights where his dad had to work and he was lonely in their apartment, bc those were the nights he wondered about his mom.

17. Do they like to take photos? What do they like to take photos of? Selfies? What do they do with their photos?

He’ll take photographs of cool specimen, but mostly he carries a journal and prefers to take notes. he takes notes on absolutely everything and has boxes and boxes of old notebooks in his closet at home.

24. What is their sleeping pattern like? Do they snore? What do they like to sleep on? A soft or hard mattress?

my boy jericho has very little trouble sleeping and is fine with the govt issues firm mattress. he is quiet and still and sleeps deeply.

Ok! switching universes! these characters are completely disconnected from those three.

Nikola Tchaikova-

40. Do they like energy drinks? Coffee? Sugary food? Or can they naturally stay awake and alert?

I’m not sure she’s ever even tried it. Nikola is a full blown alcoholic and anything that makes her feel more alert is probably not something she’s gonna enjoy. Her natural senses and awareness are absolutely through the roof, so it’s not something she really needs at all. She does like sweets though. Back when she had her family, her and her close companions use to sneak away sometimes and go out to the city for milkshakes and music, and those are probably her fondest memories.

43. Are they religious? What do they think of religion? What do they think of religious people? What do they think of non religious people?

When she was a very young girl she might have worshipped the christian/jewish/muslim god, or at least attempted to. For a young shifter where she grew up, life was rough, and she would have had a hard time finding the meaning in it all. but later in life, after the war, the major religion worshipped shifters and obviously that was ridiculous to her, so she kind of looks down on the whole thing. She might still be a little envious of the purpose and comfort that the worshippers get and that is missing so much from her life, but one of the main gods in their pantheon is based on her kid brother’s best friend. its hard to take that seriously. (the idea is that there were 5 original all powerful shifters who made the real world ones. this is wrong. shifters were a science experiment gotten out of control, and Nikola knows that.)

50. If they could only take one bag of stuff somewhere with them: what would they pack? What do they consider their essentials?

She would pack her knife, which her long dead brother gave her about 1500 years ago. she would take the pendant she wears, which was symbolic of the leadership position she used to hold before the people she was leading were all killed. She has a photo collection that she says never looks at out of fear of the light ruining them. Her best friend made her some copies, but she doesn’t look at those either. I think it hurts her to see the faces of the people she misses. She has a small bag of things tucked into the back of her closet that she never, ever touches or looks at. After the massacre that took her family, Angelo (the only survivor, her best friend) went through the carnage and collected the possessions of their friends. Nikola helped him bury them, but she couldn’t stand to take their things. he gave them to her afterwards, and she’s only every managed to take them out and look at them when she’s so drunk she knows she won’t remember the next day. But she would never leave them behind.

Nix-

9. Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals?

Domenico “Nix” Tchaikova is Nikola’s son, so half-shifter. Shifters are, by necessity, a bit closer to nature than the rest of us, and even though he has almost no actual form changing abilities animals have always seemed to like him a bit more than his friends. He’s always assumed that it’s because of his prosthetic leg, that they realize he couldn’t chase them if he wanted to, but animals know things, and they can sense that he’s not quite the same as the other humans.

22. What are their favorite insults to use? What do they insult people for? Or do they prefer to bitch behind someone’s back?

Nix would never insult someone behind their back- he has a temper, and if you piss him off he’s gonna confront you on the spot. His insults tend not to be physical. he might call you ugly if hes real mad, but hes much more likely to call you a coward or an idiot. He gets hit a lot for this.

29. What do they do when they find out someone else’s fear? Do they tease them? Or get very over protective?

No, he’d never tease someone for being genuinely afraid. He knows fear too well to try and use it against people. If somebody he cared about was afraid of something, he would plant his tiny self between them and whatever it was no matter what. hes used to being seen as small and weak and incapable, and its resulted in a stupidly brave boy who gets himself into trouble a lot because he doesnt know when to back down.

Scott-

3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory?

My boy!!! This is another one of Nikola’s children, one of the triplets. if you just read her thing, you can probably guess that she wouldn’t be a very good mother. Angelo, his father, was always loving and supportive, but both of his parents were just sad people who weren’t really prepared to raise three children. They grew up in the century before the war broke out, in a political climate that feared and hated them, among countless news stories of people like them being murdered and hunted. but Nikola still managed to give them a reasonably normal childhood. She found a place to settle down, near enough to a city that they could socialize and explore but far enough away they they grew up in the woods and could explore their natural abilities without being hunted down by hate groups.

He has a lot of good memories! pretty much all of them are him doing dumb shit with his siblings. they used to use their shifting to break into concerts or fly up to the roofs of tall buildings.

As for bad ones. definitely most of his bad memories are on Nikola’s head. He was the shifter equivalent of about eight years old when he saw her kill somebody for the first time. she didn’t know he was there, but im not sure if knowing would have changed anything. she’s been on a very long, very complicated vengeance quest since before he was born. She had tracked somebody down, and he watched while she slowly cornered him. You could practically smell the terror coming off the man as she drew her blade, moving towards him as she spoke. He had never heard her talk about the deaths of her family before, and as she told her prey all about how she had come home to find her kid brother on the floor with his throat slit open, there was something in her voice that he would never forget for the rest of his life. then he watched his mother put a knife through the bottom of the man’s jaw into his brain. he saw the light go out of his eyes, and he saw the absolute emptiness in his mother’s when she turned around. He ran as fast as he could back to his siblings and cried, but never told them what he saw.

36. What are they good at? What hobbies do they like? Can they sing?

He can sing!!! he has a voice like an angel and he loves to use it. he plays about twenty instruments- hes had a long time to learn- and he always carries at least one on him. he can use weaponry and is good at it, but doesnt enjoy it.

27. What makes them sad? Do they cry regularly? Do they cry openly or hide it? What are they like they are sad?

He doesn’t cry often. He doesn’t care if his siblings see him cry- theyre all so close its like crying in private- but with other people he doesnt like it. He just gets quiet when he’s sad. He’s not the moodiest of his siblings(that title goes to Lynx) but they all inherited something from their parents that makes them quiet, serious people on the whole. He feels deeply and thinks about things. Hes bisexual. I know that doesn’t go here but its important. He cried after he slept with a man for the first time, not because he was upset with himself about the gay thing but because he’d let himself fall for a human. The boy’s name was Jacob, and he didn’t understand but tried to comfort him anyways because he cared about Scott. They dated for a while, but Scott couldn’t handle knowing he would age and die so quickly and broke it off. Jacob was 43 when he was killed in a bombing during the war. Funerals had stopped happening at that time, people unable to keep up with all the dead. But there were still graves, and Scott visited Jacob’s for years afterwards.

Hero-

34. What is their body type? How tall are they? Do they like their body?

She looks a lot like her mom. about 5′7, muscular, strong features. She got her dads eyes though, the only one of her siblings to have them. Scott and Lynx and Nix all have Nikki’s distinctive golden-ringed brown. She likes her body fine, its a good and strong body. she likes that shes not the shortest of her siblings(lynx is tied and nix is smaller) but other than that she doesnt really care.

18. What’s their favourite genre of: books, music, tv shows, films, video games and anything else

She was never much of a reader, and the only tv she ever got to see was when there was one on in a restaurant. She did enjoy films though, and her favorites were action. She got a certain something from Nikola that neither Scott or Lynx has, something kind of cold and fierce. Whatever it was that Scott saw in his mom’s eyes when she killed that man, exists in Hero too. Nix too, but less so. She would have liked video games a lot if she’d ever had the chance to really get into them.

6. What were they like at school? Did they enjoy it? Did they finish? What level of higher education did they reach? What subjects did they enjoy? Which did they hate?

She never went to school. Her father taught her to read and write, as well as everything he thought she needed to know about the world. She spent her childhood wandering with her siblings, and most things she needed to know she got from that. All three of them had been planning on going to college, but the war came before they got the chance. But I think if she’d gotten the chance she would have had an interest in something technical. Engineering or architecture maybe.

10. Do they like children? Do children like them? Do they have or want any children? What would they be like as a parent? Or as a godparent/babysitter/ect?

God I love Lynx. He would never, ever become a parent, but I think he would be a good one. Out of all of her children, Lynx inherited the most of Nikola’s sadness. In non dramatic terms she gave him her tendencies towards mental illness and its something hes struggled with his whole life. His siblings are a wonderful support system but he knows that any child of his would struggle like he has, and he has so many unhappy memories of Nikola’s misery that he would be too afraid. But children do like him, and he likes them. He’s a fun, playful person when he’s feeling good, and is absolutely delighted to discover he has a little brother. obviously hes got the same terror of losing him, but he has pushed those feelings tf down. he just wants to enjoy their relationship while he can. hes a wonderful, sweet, caring boy whos full of love and good times, but too scared of himself to ever be a parent.

26. How do they act when they’re happy? Do they sing? Dance? Hum? Or do they hide their emotions?

When he’s happy, everybody knows it. He is an absolute delight. he does dance, actually. when hes happy he does it more but also its just a thing hes good at and loves to do. humans who see it know theres something not quite natural about the way he moves, and hes beautiful to watch when hes using it to express joy. He has bright eyes and a smile that makes you feel like you are safe and loved and that everything in the entire world is gonna be ok.

44. What is their favorite season? Type of weather? Are they good in the cold or the heat? What weather do they complain in the most?

He loves any time of the year where it’s warm enough to wear skirts and loose, light shirts. The wintertime makes his depression worse, and a lot of years he and his siblings will head south to avoid it. but he loves warm breezes and cool nights by a fire, loves seeing the flowers in the spring and all the new baby animals. he isn’t at all a complainer, but when the weather is affecting him badly it’s easy to tell. he gets quiet, which is not something he is a lot.

genderfluid nico fic

because my lovely genderfluid girlfriend is not feeling too well and i will do anything for her

nico has always felt different. he remembers very distinctly believing as a child that he had been born a girl. his mother always corrected him, bianca always corrected him, but he had been entirely convinced that he was born a girl.

nico doesn’t tell anyone that. it’s an odd memory, something that he doesn’t care to share with another living being.

there are times, still, that nico believes he may be a girl. its such a heavy feeling, something that cannot be escaped. he remembers bianca’s look of confusion, her “why are you so strange?” and pushes it down again. it cannot be escaped, but he runs from it.

nico is a gay man. he is certain of that fact, has been certain for a long time, and it takes a cruel arrow to truly dig it home. he does not want this. not today of all days. percy jackson is gone and nico is so bitter about it that he disgusts even himself. percy jackson is in mortal danger, risking himself once again for the sake of others, and all nico can think is that annabeth got percy in tartarus, and nico had no one. to make matters worse, from the moment he woke up, he had dreams of being young again in italy, twirling in one of bianca’s skirts while she was away. he wonders when he’ll start being normal. when he’ll stop being like this.

he doesn’t tell jason about the skirt. but he tells him about liking men. not because he wanted to. nothing ever happens to nico because he wants it to.

fast forward to after the battle against gaea and things are happening to nico because he wants them to. and he hates it. will solace, who will slice you open as quickly as stitch you together, who can carry nico over his head easier than anything but cries when he gets a papercut, who smiles at nico and means it, who laughs sharp and sadistic at nico’s snarky remarks, who is secretly a hermit and not at all the perfect ball of sunshine nico thought he might be.... will solace is happening to nico di angelo.

nico is torn. he likes will. will is funny and a bit rude and surprisingly talented for all he says against himself. will makes those skeletal butterflies run amok throughout nico’s system. but even when nico does think maybe, maybe he could have a chance with will.... it comes back. the girl feelings.

he doesnt want to date a boy when he’s like this. so even though he can tell will is flirting with him, that boy is so obvious what is wrong with you every one can see you, nico can’t reciprocate. for as much as he wants to, this thing keeps holding him back

and then, suddenly, things get turned around. nico is waiting outside will’s cabin, here to walk with him to the infirmary because he promised that he’d volunteer today, there’s only three apollo kids left (the rest are, tragically, dead) so the infirmary is severely understaffed. and then it happens. will walks outside and will has...

“you have something on your chest” nico says rather foolishly. and will laughs. “yeah,” he says “that’s my chest. ive been kind of sore, so i figured i’d just go sports bra instead of binder today.” he laughs again, curse him. “once im wearing my scrubs they wont be as noticeable, but i prefer to change into them in the infirmary to keep them clean.”

so they walk to the infirmary, nico absolutely numb. he doesnt know what to say. why is will’s chest.... like that? he isnt sure how to ask. maybe will is like him? born one way, sometimes a different way. he wants to ask will but something much worse than butterflies clogs his throat, his stomach, his mind.

luckily, will seems to understand. “so, you seemed pretty shocked,” he is trying to keep his voice nonchalant and is very much failing to do so. “did you... not know?”

nico shakes his head.

“oh... i mean, i wear the flag all the time, so i kind of assumed... maybe that was wrong of me.” will stares at nico, slowing their pace down to a speed that will certainly make austin sigh at their lateness. he stops then, suddenly, and his eyes are wide when nico meets them. “oh, good lord, nico!” he grabs his own face with his hands. “you didnt know! you’re from, like, a billion years ago! oh, sweet jesus, nico, do you even know what transgender means?”

nico coughs. “ive never heard that word in my life.”

and will just about screams into his own hands. “i am so ridiculous!” he yells and the butterflies are back. nico isnt sure how to tell them they arent welcome. he’s not sure he wants to. will is surprisingly adorable when he gets like this... his emotions seem so strange and exaggerated, but nico knows he’s being honest. its.... cute. “i am! i am a ridiculous man!”

and he’s shaking his head, pulling nico by the hand suddenly to the bighouse. “i cannot believe no one showed you the awesome trans video me and clarisse made.” nico struggles to keep up with will’s pace now that he’s touching him. “it’s supposed to be shown with orientation, but we probably made it a little while after you showed up. and then you werent here for so long....” he keeps going on like this, talking about things nico doesnt really understand

but in nico’s good fortune, they make it to the big house quickly so will can sit him down to watch the video.

and it opens nico’s eyes to so much

“you mean thats normal?” he asks will excitedly, making will’s eyes go wide as saucer plates. “you mean im not just... a sexual deviant?”

“HA!” will covers his mouth quickly. hearing that had shocked a laugh out of him, but there wasn’t any kind of humor in his face. “no, i mean... i wouldnt know about that part” here, he does giggle, and it touches his eyes, scrunches them in that adorable way that nico just hates. “but i mean... the stuff in the video? no, that doesnt make you a sexual deviant.”

and nico exhales, feels like he’s been punched in the gut. “i thought there was something wrong with me!” nico laughs. “there still might be!”

will snorts, replies, “i doubt that very much. so.. what are you thinking? are you a girl? maybe nonbinary?”

nico shakes his head, exhilarated. “no, no, what’s the... the one where it changes?”

“oh!” will gasps, smiling. “genderfluid! what are you now, do you think? would you like me to call you something different?”

but nico is already shaking his head. “no, im a boy today. but sometimes.... very rarely, i get... feelings. girl feelings. i ignore them but...”

nico is surprised to look up and see will’s face so soft. “you don’t have to ignore them anymore, nico. you’re safe here, i mean, look at me!” and he gestures to his chest. “where in the world can a guy like me feel safe going out like this knowing that everyone will respect me as a man?” he shakes his head, as if in wonder. “people will embrace this nico, i promise you. if you embrace it, then so will they. and believe me, it hurts to run from this.”

and nico knows that well. “will you...” he starts. he swallows hard, clenches his teeth. the words are hard to get out of his throat, but a single whisper escapes. “will you help me?”

will grins, and nico thinks distantly that a smile like that could replace all of the stars in the sky easily. “i would even if you didn’t want me to.”

nico laughs, a sound that surprises even himself. “good,” he sighs, good humor coloring the still bitter tone. “because i don’t.”

but he thinks maybe it will all be okay anyways

uhhh Jacuzzi, Carnea, Fermet

Jacuzzi: One of the first favorites. I have plenty to say about him, but on the other hand I feel like I’ve said plenty about him already so its starting to sound repetitive.

Why I like them: He’s so damn brave. He’s one of the few mortals in the cast without any skill in fighting or otherwise superhuman ability, but he never hestitates to rush in when somebody needs help. He’s afraid and he knows he’s afraid, but he pushes past it anyway.

Why I don’t: I swear, sometimes it feels like this kid is trying to get himself killed. Just because you CAN be killed doesnt mean you SHOULD be.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): The Delinquents That Turn Up In The High Class Neighborhood Are The Same As Always. Jacuzzi being kind and brave and selfless, PLUS heartbreaking backstory, PLUS him fainting dead away at the mention of THE RAYUL TRAYSAH. Its totally my favorite episode.

Favorite season/movie/arc: Honestly, the Flying Pussyfoot arc is still his grandest moment so far.

Favorite line: I HAVE A GUN IN MY HEART

Favorite outfit: Does this child own a change of clothes?

OTP: Nice, obviously.

Brotp: Chane, I love that they’re fast friends.

Head Canon: Jacuzzi really wishes he could play an instrument, but he’s never been able to afford an instrument or lessons. One day, Isaac and Miria procure an entire piano from who-knows-where and they all spend a few nights figuring out a couple of basic songs.

Unpopular opinion: He should just stop. Someone lock him inside so that he can’t fling himself into danger again.

A wish: I wish that he was immortal. I really do, I can’t stand the thought of him growing old and dying.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Don’t kill him. Just.

5 words to best describe them: Nervous, brave, smart, fumbling, reckless

My nickname for them: The Jellybean. Ever since Placido called him that, it’s been all I can call him.Carnea: Still a pretty new character, and even when she showed up she didn’t get to do too much. I’ll say what I can, but I haven’t done too much thinking about her as of yet.

Why I like them: She’s strong-willed

Why I don’t: She’s kind of used as a trophy to Bobby, for turning into a decent human being. It didn’t seem like she had a lot of agency in that pairing-up.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): The scene where it’s revealed that she’s Angelo’s boss.

Favorite season/movie: So far she’s only been in 2002

Favorite line: “Everything’s the same, no matter where you go”.

Favorite outfit: Again, only one outfit

OTP: Listen, I know Narita is setting us up for Carnea/Bobby, but I really don’t feel like theres any chemistry between them at all. tbh theres not anyone i would ship her with until she gets more development and agency.

Brotp: I think that she and Illness would get along.

Head Canon: She is really freaked out by immortality until she befriends one of the old gangsters at Alveare.

Unpopular opinion: When I was reading the story, she seemed like kind of a boring character. I can tell she could be a great character if they gave her some room to act, but until then she felt flat.

A wish: I’ve said it before, but I really wish she was given a little more autonomy. She was written to be a bit of a character who gets tossed around and told what to do by the people who know better, I wish she got more opportunity to show her strengths and take charge of something.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Don’t let the Bobby relationship happen without seemingly any autonomy from her. Let us see inside her head, let us see them become friends first before forcing them together.

5 words to best describe them: Caring, nervous, brave, lonely, quiet

My nickname for them: I don’t have one yet for her. Fermet: ugh

Why I like them: Look, I know you expect me to leave this one blank, but I can appreciate that he’s an amazingly good villain. He’s absolutely horrible, but he’s a wonderfully chillingly villainous kind of horrible.

Why I don’t: We don’t need an essay here. What he did to Czes was enough and then it somehow got worse.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): The reveal at the end of 2002 was so amazingly terrible

Favorite season/movie: Thats the only one ive read so far where he actually shows up in person.

Favorite line: When he leaves Czes and says something like “I’ll see you again soon.” God, that made my blood boil, but what an amazing villain line.

Favorite outfit: All I know about him is that ruffle-shirt that we see in the anime

Head Canon: I have literally no clue how he actually survived getting devoured by like three different people, but I think he might have created clones of himself re:Dez and theyve been devouring different pieces of the hivemind. That’s my working headcanon so far.

Unpopular opinion: Nothing is more unpopular than Fermet.

A wish: That it ended with Czes devouring him. Also that he made his grand reappearance back when Felix could have ripped him into pieces.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Don’t let him lay another finger on Czes.

TRANS SOLANGELO….. this is my lifeblood and i thank you. sorry this is so late though!! ill try to get better about that haha…

- nico has never met anyone else like him. when he was very young, he told maria and bianca about how he felt, always seemed confused when people called him a girl, and would respectfully correct them, saying “no sir, im the man of the house!” because hades rarely found the time to be with them.

- hades was the one to convince bianca and maria that what nico is is normal. through out all the ages, he’d seen many people like him, and he relayed a few of the words that you could call nico to the three, then just to nico, alone, “you are my son”. it makes nico happy. this is the first time he hears it, but not the last.

- later on in life, nico forgets he isnt alone in being transgender. he forgets he isnt alone in all things. his father presents him with the correct materials to bind once he reaches that age, but nico never takes off the binder even though he knows it isnt safe, and he doesnt care either. he figures he’ll keep passing, and if he dies, very few people will notice, and likely no one would miss him terribly. he has no responsibilities with bianca gone. he has no one to live for, but he lives anyways, not caring if or when death comes.

- things only get worse when he starts realizing he likes men. if he were a REAL man, he tells himself, then he’d like women. wouldnt he? he remembers all the stories of the gods taking male lovers, he turns them over in his head, he knows that men loving men is as old as rhyme, but he cant help it. dysphoria grips him strongly, as it always seems to.

- when he shows up in will’s infirmary, will is shocked at the state of nico’s body. he says so, out loud, “i am shocked at the state of your body” and nico’s entire body tenses and he’s terrified of what comes next, but will says instead “even i remember to take this thing off sometimes! you have to let them BREATHE, di angelo, dont you know what kind of injury you can get? what kind of SICKNESS? how are you not dead yet?”

- nico and will talk during those three days in the infirmary, mostly will yelling at him and trying to convince him that binder safety is important “its just… those things.” “yes and your ribs and lungs and everything else! you can get so sick from this, nico!” “…oh” but they talk about other things like will’s starry-eyed love for star trek. nico offers up some things about mythomagic and will is happy to hear about it. nico isnt used to the attention. it feels… strange.

- will is brave and nice and kind of slow figuring things out but ultimately clever. he has a terrible bedside manner and is a dangerously efficient healer, would probably operate on a man who’s awake and staring him in the eye if he knew it would save his life. nico respects him. nico feels skeletal butterflies in his stomach and chest and tells himself “just respect” but he knows its a lie. will has pretty golden curls and his blue eyes get so wide with his big, charming smile when he talks about doctor mccoy and mr spock and the starship enterprise. nico thinks he could hear about star trek every day of the week. he knows hes got it bad

- when nico is dispatched from the infirmary, he’s almost reluctant to leave. before he leaves, he impulsively asks will if he’d like to hang out again sometime. will smiles at the invite and jokes “like a date?” and without thinking, nico says “yes.” they stare at eachother in silence while will blinks, processing. then he says “oh…. well then yes!” and hes smiling and his cheeks are pink and cute and nico smiles a bit too, triumphantly. they plan to go on a date soon, very soon, and nico leaves the infirmary feeling like he’s just won the lottery. better than the lottery. a chance with will solace (who may or may not be doing a dance in the infirmary while his siblings watch in confusion at the fact that HE is going out with THE handsome, incredible, mysterious, hilarious, dorky nico di angelo. what a guy!!! what an absolute catch! way to go solace!)
