Performance - Chapter 11 (Part 20)
Writer: Akira
Season: Spring
Characters: Hokuto, Wataru
Translation Directory
It's known as a tragedy, and yet, I can't agree with that assessment.
Tumblr media
Location: Inside a Train
Tumblr media
Wataru: In actuality... I've never once come across one, a person who declares "I want to be like Hibiki Wataru!"
Which is to say, I am indeed still half-baked.
Hokuto: That's because you're out of the norm... No-one can even dream of being like you.
The more I come to know you, the more I feel that distance, too.
Wataru: Eh~ even though I'm close enough for you to touch? Please do your best, Hokuto-kun!
When I first saw you, I was a bit inspired.
"Aah, he's imitating my hairstyle," I thought... "Perhaps he wants to become like me."
Remembering the previous conversation, I held an interest in you...
Your mother must have predicted that, and tied your hair in a braid.
That's why I said she's discerning.
Her preparation is flawless, she knows all about a performer's weak points. Because if you're faced with someone imitating you, there's no way you could be unhappy.
Though, with just a few minutes of talking to you, I could tell you had no interest in me at all...
You only think of yourself, don't you?
Hokuto: Should I not? I don't have time to think about other things right now, and aren't I the one who thinks of myself the most?
There's no-one who thinks of me, of Hidaka Hokuto, so... I'm the one who has to consider me, to produce me.
Wataru: Right. That's the natural and correct answer, people don't really think about others often.
Though I personally don't have much interest in myself~ that seems to be rather unusual.
I'm always thinking about the characters in works of art, and the people surrounding them.
"Hibiki Wataru" is the means by which, the point of contact for interacting with those kinds of lovely things.
Hokuto: You're pretty distorted, aren't you... Are all "geniuses" like that?
Wataru: What do you think? Geniuses, no, all people are slightly different from each other.
You can't analyse all of humanity on an individual level using inflexible interpretations or common consensus.
That's why. You, who is captivated by such things, is rather laughable.
Hokuto: Hmph... I feel like I'm being made fun of by a clown.
Wataru: What a fitting phrase! Ahaha, chatting like this is fun...☆
Hokuto: Isn't this is strangely conceptual for a "chat"?
Wataru: Perhaps it is, by common consensus' standards! You're still restraining yourself, is your braid a chain or something, Hokuto-kun?
Be more flexible!
Relatedly... I just so happen to have tickets for a play being held at a theatre near the next stop!
Would you care to join me?
It's a rather intriguing stage, quite avant-garde... perhaps your sense of values will change upon seeing it!
Hokuto: I refuse. School is starting soon, I shouldn't skip.
Wataru: Isn't it fine every now and then? Let's be bad boys together~♪
Even if you do as your parents say like a good boy, it's not like you'll be rewarded for it, will you?
Hokuto: Don't interpret me like a character from a story.
Wataru: Apologies, it's an unconscious habit! This is troubling though, I didn't imagine you'd refuse.
Even after I went through all the trouble of moving you onto a different train without waking you?
Hokuto: So you're the reason I'm going to be late for school? I thought it was strange for me to sleep past my stop.
Wataru: Apologies, I just love tricks like that!
When faced with unexpected developments, humans always reveal some sort of interesting reaction without fail!
Getting mad, losing their cool, being bewildered, speaking unfavorably of me...
They confront me without hiding their true face behind a mask, or at least, they don't ignore me.
Hokuto: Did your parents not care about you as a kid?
Well, whatever. I already studied the contents of today's lessons last night, so it won't be a huge problem if I don't attend.
Even if I'm not there, I doubt anyone would notice.
I'll accompany you, President. But only for today - it'll be a problem if I'm constantly getting kidnapped to places I don't know.
Wataru: "Kidnapped" makes it sound scandalous... But I'm glad, let's have fun watching a play together.
Both acting and viewing are lonely when done by yourself. Let's snack on popcorn and excitedly discuss our thoughts with each other.
Japan has strict theatre manners, but plays have been that sort of event since time immemorial. Like in Shakespeare's time.
Hokuto: Don't speak like you were there for it, President.
Wataru: I've been doing my research you know, Shakespeare's a classic after all.
As is the play we're going to see today, "Romeo and Juliet"♪
It's known as a tragedy, and yet, I can't agree with that assessment.
Hokuto: ? Isn't it a standard tragedy?
Wataru: If you think about it using the common rules of this fleeting world, yes. But they were surely united after death, no?
One committed suicide, the other committed murder, so they certainly both fell into hell together.
However, "wherever you are is Heaven"... is what's conveyed in the play.
Because they went so far as to repeat such a sentiment over and over, time after time, the ending is not a tragedy.
Death is not the end, nor is it hopelessness. It is proof that they were finally together.
It's a connection, a blessing. That is how I interpreted the story's meaning.
If it's not true, then... Ah, God, Shakespeare, for what purpose did you document the suffering of this man and woman?
To sneer at these pitiful two, or else, to feel self-satisfied in your pity for them?
No - "Romeo and Juliet" is a congratulatory address for the two being united for eternity!

@bloodymoonxvampire : Ship bias! At least one for each character! Or as many as you'd like, anyhow. xoxo
Tumblr media
I'm gonna assume you mean one of each of my Enstars muses, because if it was for each of my muses we'd be here all night and you'd be killing me lmao
Anywaaaay let's see. Imma try to talk about not so popular ships for each because I do enjoy their more popular ships a lot.
But we already run into trouble with Arashi because honeeestly none of my ships for her go that out there, but I guess the most out there is with HiMERU? It's not like they've interacted much in canon aside from the standard roommate interactions, but I do think they'd be able to support each other. They're both people that struggle with their identities, albeit for very different reasons— and Arashi seems like someone that would be more understanding than others when she were to find out about HiMERU's secret.
Koga! Baby Koga! Again, haven't had the opportunity to explore much out there, but I suppose Jun, as they haven't interacted in canon at all— there was one time they almost did but Koga was out of his dorm so Jun got greeted by Tatsumi. They seem like they'd really bond over their love for their dogs. Just this awkward teenage romance with way too much excitement once they get going.
Makoto's actually an easy one— Because Kat made me ship him with Mika! Their little gacha story (Decadance) has Makoto supporting Mika every step of the way as he starts his journey as an actor, because Makoto himself knows what it's like to be in Mika's shoes. I just think they'd be such a sweet couple.
Rinne... I don't know if any Rinne ship is too out there because of the way he is lmao. But I suppose since I'm answering you, I'll go with Rinne and Rei. Though they barely interact directly in canon, the whole similarity of Rinne and ore!Rei can't be ignored. I'm sure Rei sees his past self a bit when he looks at Rinne, buuut he helps people in a different way. Instead of being that reliable senpai that everyone comes to when in trouble, Rinne is the guy that everyone dreads because he helps others by making himself the one to take the blame. And of course, the idea of those two going out drinking together lives in my mind rent free.
Wataru and Nagisa! Two long haired babes with different ways of living. Wataru is a free soul, doing whatever he pleases, while Nagisa is used to being directed on what to do. They could both benefit from each other's point of view— and oh, poor Ibara having to deal with Nagisa rebelling. Wataru, on the other hand, would learn to be a biiit more grounded.

Haikyuu Hugs pt 4:
FUKURODANI
Bokuto Koutarou:
THE ONE YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR
THE BEST HUGGER IN THE ENTIRE SERIES
THE BIG MAN HIMSELF
He is the absolute KING of hugs, let me tell you
If you want hugs, he's got you, 900%
All you have to do is hold out your arms and your face will be buried in his chest before you can say Hoot
When he wants hugs he'll stare at you and blink a bunch to get your attention
Or sometimes he'll pout at you, or rest his head on you until you notice
Before we get into the pillow qualities of this man though, let's discuss his hug technique
The kind of man who you can go to when you’re scared, and he’ll wrap you up and whisper reassurances and loving words to you because he is whipped
He can pull off ANY SORT OF HUG
Lying down? Head on chest or thighs, you can fall asleep as he plays with your hair or wraps his arms around you
Sitting down? You can sit on his lap, or drape yourself over his shoulders, or he'll drape over yours!
Standing? He'll hug you straight on, facing you, arms at your waist. He'll hug you from behind, a protective weight at your back, resting his chin on your head.
He has a habit of squeezing you to him, arms round your shoulder blades
His arms are SO BIG and he's SO BEEFY and PLEASE getting hugged to his massive, warm chest is a DREAM COME TRUE
The CUDDLE MASTER
And finally, my magnum opus, the ultimate Bokuto hug:
If you see each other after a while, he'll run to you, especially if you run to him, he'll squeeze you to his chest and hoist you into the air with a joyous laugh, spinning the both of you around before slowing, holding you close as he sways you, humming softly in your ear
Ah that felt good to get off my chest man do I long to hug this man~
Washio Tatsuki:
Tall + Intimidating looking + Strong, silent type? You know this man gives good hugs
Very warm, very safe, like a tower with the insides of a fluffy blanket
Honestly? He’s pretty quiet, not too into loud and exuberant hugging or whispered conversations, but he is so good for comfort cuddles
Anytime you need sheltering from the world, or you’re just tired and stressed, you can go to him and he’ll hug you when you relax, sleep, or vent to him
He’s an incredible listener, he loves to lie on the sofa with you on his chest as you talk about anything
He’ll stroke your cheek or hair, or rub circles on your back with a soft smile
I actually think that, once you’ve been friends or in a relationship for a while, that he’d get a little clingy, once you’re close
He seems to have this stony, blunt, stern face that he shows the world, and that is who he is, but he also really cares for you and he wants to make sure you’re ok, and he will approach you for hugs if he can sense that something is up
Sometimes he’ll hug you to him and he’ll muse quietly over some things he needs to do, or something he’s working on; only short sentences but that’s all he needs to convey his meaning, lulling you to sleep with the low rumble of his chest
Once you fall asleep he’ll press a kiss to the top of your head and whisper ‘I love you’
Sarukui Yamato:
When I tell you that there is SO LITTLE on this man’s personality-
Anyway, I am taking the very very little we see of him and running with it so-
~ahem~
He really loves giving you little kisses while hugging you!
There you’ll both be, standing around, and before you know it he’s got you pressed to his chest, dotting your cheeks, nose and brow with tiny kisses, short, sweet and loving
He does longer kisses too! He’ll press a kiss to your lips mid-embrace, holding it for a little just so you can feel how much he loves you
He’ll do the same if you’re cuddling while laying down, just kiss your face or hands without pulling away for a while
His favourite thing to do is rest his face against your neck or collarbone, letting his lips linger against your skin, not fully kissing it but feeling it, loving the contact between you
He trusts you with his problems, and will sometimes come to you when stressed or annoyed, and vent to you a little while your fingers run through his hair, a feeling that he finds incredibly reassuring
He’s also a fiddler, he’ll fiddle with your hair or clothes or fingers while cuddling, or he’ll paint patterns on your arms with his fingers, twisting fabric into whorls as you cuddle
Akaashi Keiji:
Ah~ another beautiful character! There are far too many of these in this show, it’ll be the death of us all
Regardless - I think Akaashi began a little more uncomfortable with physical contact! He didn’t jump straight into the hug life, but stepped in gradually, yet once he became comfortable oh you’ve unleashed a monster
Akaashi prefers to be calm, collected and polite around others, so it is with you that he unwinds the most
He absolutely adores laying with his head in your lap, letting you play with his curls as he gestures emphatically towards the ceiling while describing his day and how the team is doing
He’s a sway hugger too, he’ll rock you gently from side to side as you embrace, one hand firm at your back or waist
He has a habit of making little sarcastic comments while you hug too, things about what his teammates or other schools have been up to
He gets a little touchy at points, brushing his hands past your arms or shoulders while you work, or using you as a head rest - casual contact for the win here
Considering his habit to overthink, he’ll seek you out whenever his thoughts begin running too wildly
At his point he’ll curl up in a blanket with his head on your chest, talking out his thoughts as you whisper to him - he finds your presence to be the most calming thing in the world
He likes to kiss your hands too, before embracing you - he has this little thing he’ll do
He’ll offer you his hand, and when you take it he’ll press a kiss to your fingers, or the back of your hand, before sweeping you towards him and wrapping you in a hug
He then begins laughing, and he has the most enchanting giggles - they range from quiet to full on snorting, but all of them are some of the beautiful laughter you’ve ever heard
Konoha Akinori:
In all honesty, Konoha is really hard to characterise - I have like... two routes I could go down and I can’t choose... So I’m going to throw in elements of both! Enjoy!
First of all, this guy is really fun and teasing and his hugs reflect this
Another sway hugger, but not gentle swaying, but happy swaying, almost like dancing, you can tell he’s happy as he swishes you around within his clasps, laughing all the while
He likes to flirt a little too as you hug, both hands at your hips and his words a breeze by the shell of your ear, words of affection and admiration for how wonderful you look today
He likes to be the big spoon, and will hug you from behind constantly - he loves to have you laying on him, or to rest his head on yours or your shoulder, humming a small tune
He actually enjoys giving you massages too! His fingers are long and dexterous, and dig perfectly into the knots that the muscles of your back form after a long day, moulding you into a relaxed puddle like a vat of kinetic sand
On the flip side, he harbours several insecurities over his supposed lack of outstanding talent, being the ‘jack of all trades’ and not having a specific ‘thing’
Some days this will hit him hard, and he’ll come to you - lay down his head and close his eyes
He knows you’ll feel his hurt - and nothing cheers him up like your reassurances that he is good enough and that every person with one talent needs an all rounder to back them up and that he’s more useful in the long run
It reassures him, and he smiles as he soaks up your warmth - knowing that he is master of one thing and it’s loving you
Anahori Shūichi:
He’s so sweet and excitable!
Such loving and enthusiastic hugs from him, because you are his whole world
He will squeeze you to his chest with the utmost abandon and give you little kisses all over your face
He does puppy eyes when he wants a hug
When you first became close, he was often a bit nervous to approach you if he wanted a hug
But over time he became more comfortable... and adorably clingy as a result
He’ll always back off if you’re not in the mood - but this man wants his cuddles
CHAIR CUDDLE KING!
Oh what’s a chair cuddle? Only his favourite hug in the world
The BEST hug you can give him is one where he sits in a chair (preferably a massive, squishy armchair) and you sit on his lap and let him cuddle you
Facing towards or away from him he loves it, just having his arms around your waist as you watch something together
He also loves to sit in your lap, if you’ll have him, either as a joke or sincerely
Just this man... he loves the cuddle
Woollen blanket levels of snuggleeeeeeeeeee
Please stroke his hair he loves it
Komi Haruki:
Another energetic boy (this poor team’s coach rip)
He loves you
Like really loves you
And he wants to tell you that over and over again!
While he hugs you he will definitely whisper sweet nothings into your ear and tell you he adores you
Cuddles all day, cuddles all night!
Will cuddle you in his sleep, like you’re laying in bed and you wake up in the middle of the night for whatever reason and he will be snuggling you so hard
One arm thrown over you and his nose at your neck and he’s so happy there that you’d feel really bad moving him
Also definitely headcanon he’s warm
Not open oven Bokuto warm but...
In a room with a log fire in the corner on a winter’s day warm
Very cozy and comforting, also very sweet with you
Will tell you about the funny parts of his day while hugging
Onaga Wataru:
He’s less enthusiastic than some of our previous boys for sure
But that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love you just as much
I’m feeling sappy tonight so honestly? You are his everything
But headcanon! I don’t think he’s the best exactly at speaking his emotions
Oh he cherishes you with everything he has but he’s relatively quiet and finds it hard to express all that sheer emotion with words
In his mind, letters don’t cut it - how can a mere human mouth fully express the depth of the heart’s devotion? His love is more than words it’s colours and feelings and everything he associates with you and he is not (in his mind) eloquent enough to tell you
But he wants to
So? Hugs
When he hugs you this man puts his all into it
His squeeze is the perfect tightness, not too weak, not too tight
When his arms wrap perfectly around your shoulders, he tries to push all of his feelings into the hug
He wants to transmit his love for you through the physical contact
Long hugger definitely, he can hold you for hours
Will DROP EVERYTHING to hug you if you ask - no matter how important, you are first
Sturdy hugs and frame as well, just a good hugger

since u love writing angst im gonna make u write FLUFF mawahahah... i would like a cute one shot with Bokuto being all nervous while confessing please!! hes so nervous and needs validation that he has to ask the readers best friend if she likes him back before doing so. make it long!!! heehe
confessions of a teenage captain
who: bokuto x f!reader
what: fluff, humor
plot: bokuto is a nervous mess when it comes to you. but he wants to be your nervous mess
wc: 1,735
a/n: this is so evil of u khgskjhfs but i think i did it right
{ hq sfw taglist — tell me if you want to be added or taken off: @yamxgucci }
Who is L/N Y/N? It depends on who you ask.
Akaashi would say you’re an underclassman that’s in his group chat for some reason.
Washio would say you’re that second year in his physics class.
And Bokuto? He would say everything possible at the same time he would say nothing at all. The poor guy has a hard time coming up with the words to say when describing you, resulting in a lot of circling around when describing how amazing and attractive and funny and cute and… You get the point.
Bokuto has a huge crush on you. It’s no secret to the third years of Fukurodani Academy’s volleyball club but even Akaashi has a theory that maybe his captain asked Wataru to secretly add you to the volleyball chat because of that. Mostly because when the group chat realized your existence, Bokuto was the first to correct Washio about what year you are, even though that really didn’t matter.
Or when someone — Yamato maybe — mentioned how you gave him chocolates all of a sudden one day, Bokuto was the one to pipe up and brag a little about how he helped you walk to class with a load of books to carry.
Akaashi always observed Bokuto’s behavior when it came to you, but he wasn’t expecting Bokuto to ask something like this.
“You want me to… Become Y/N’s best friend. So that you can know if she likes you back?”
Bokuto nods energetically.
“Really? And how exactly will that help me?”
“Help you? What do you mean? D-do you…” Horror sinks down in Bokuto’s features while he points an accusatory finger at his teammate. “Do you like Y/N too?!”
Akaashi blinks at him, waiting for Bokuto to realize.
“Well?!”
Is he… Is he just not gonna realize the obvious?
“Well it doesn’t matter — I’m gonna win her heart, not you.” Bokuto jabs his thumb into his chest triumphantly, trying to conceal how his nerves are twisting his stomach.
“Okay, we’ll see,” Akaashi answers simply.
After that, it was a competition for Bokuto to see who could woo you the best. Of course, this was a competition against himself, but he doesn’t need to know that. Akaashi thinks it’s better this way — it almost guarantees that Bokuto is successful if he’s trying that hard. And meanwhile, as month after month went by, Akaashi made it his duty to get close to you for the same reason. He wants to make sure Bokuto gets what he wants. The last thing he needs is for Bokuto to go through a tough rejection and have that affect his performance on the court negatively. And then the group chat would become incredibly awkward. There’s just way too many losses that come with Bokuto getting rejected by you and Akaashi isn’t going to risk it.
But you sort of liked that about him. Akaashi started talking to you more during lunch hours and in the group chat. It was sudden, but you didn’t mind. He invited you to games and practices, team study sessions, team food runs, and anything else that involved him and his friends. You loved it honestly, and he could tell. He could tell it was working to slowly integrate you into the friend group. Bokuto wasn’t going to do it, much too shy for whatever reason, so he had to take matters into his own hands.
“Psst, Akaashi!”
The dark-haired male turns over his shoulder, seeing Bokuto peaking his head out from around the corner of the school gym. One look and Akaashi recognizes the telltale signs of nervousness. He doesn’t blame him, but honestly, Bokuto’s overdoing it. Akaashi’s been working hard for months to get close to Y/N for him, so there’s no rhyme or reason for Bokuto to be this nervous: sweat building on his forehead, hair a mess from pulling on it, school uniform slightly out of place.
“Did you put your underwear on backward too?” he asks casually, approaching his friend.
Bokuto glares defensively at him, hiding behind the corner with him. “Quit it. I’m gonna confess to Y/N today. I told her to come to the gym before our practice starts.”
“Okay, good luck,” Akaashi tells him, patting his shoulder.
Bokuto gives him a quizzical look. Is he saying that because he thinks I’ll need it? Did he confess to her already?
“What?” Akaashi furrows his brows, studying his captain and thinking about every possible thought he could be having.
“What’d she say when you confessed? I saw how you’re bringing her around a lot more. Don’t know if you noticed but I’m the one she hangs out with when you bring her to team stuff. So no matter what she said, I’m the one she likes to be around.” He’s pinning Akaashi down with his glare, trying to establish the upper hand around here.
But rather than his underclassman being intimidated, he starts laughing.
“W-what’s so funny? Hey!” Bokuto’s face is turning pink from embarrassment and he grabs Akaashi by the collar. He doesn’t know what he’s going to do — if there’s even anything he can do.
“I didn’t confess to her, stupid,” he laughs out, holding onto Bokuto’s wrists. “I keep bringing her around so you can confess to her!”
Bokuto falters, his grip loosening and eyes blinking wide. Akaashi can see the gears turning and he watches as his friend gradually gets pinker and pinker. “W-w-what… You…” His eyes water dramatically and he takes Akaashi’s shoulders in his hands now, shaking the poor guy. “You would do that for me?!”
Akaashi nods while being shaken back and forth, finding himself laughing anyway. He appreciates this side of Bokuto — he’s glad it’s you bringing this out of him. “To be fair, I didn’t do anything to make her get close to you. That was all you, big guy.”
Bokuto stops moving the two of them, realization dawning on him. “You’re right.”
He steps away and begins pacing, going over his plans to confess to you. Akaashi watches him mumble to himself, just waiting for Bokuto to realize.
“Akaashi!” He stops suddenly, doubt encroaching on his features while he takes his friend’s shoulders again. “Does… Does Y/N like me?”
Bokuto trusts him with his life, thus why he knows Akaashi of all people would have the answer. Even as Akaashi hesitates and looks past Bokuto rather than making eye contact, he still trusts him. He has to — he has nothing else to go on and his earlier schpiel was just him bluffing.
Akaashi’s answer is so certain, though, there’s no way Bokuto would be wrong to believe his words. “Yes — she likes you a lot, actually,” he says, finally locking eyes with his friend again.
“Are you sure? You mean it? How do you know?”
Akaashi holds his breath, trying desperately hard to not spill all of your secrets. He’s still your best friend, after all. “Yes, I’m sure. She told me.”
“When?” Bokuto urges, his hands tightening just a little.
“Just now,” he answers, looking away from Bokuto again.
Bokuto’s heart is pounding. The look on Akaashi’s face… it’s far from that of a guilty liar. No… No, no, no, no, no…
Whipping around, Bokuto sees you. And you see him, a slideshow of horror and embarrassment phasing across his face.
“Y-Y-Y-Y/N! Uhh, hey! Can I talk to you?” he stumbles out.
You open your mouth to answer, but already he’s pulled a small box out of his pocket and shoving it in your face. And then his speech starts with a nervous yet brave face.
“I really like you, Y/N! I’ve had feelings for you since early on in the school year and I really want to be more than friends with you. I know you may view me as a friend but-”
You glance between him and Akaashi, about to interrupt Bokuto to soothe his nerves when Akaashi shakes his head. As if to cut you off, he draws a line across his neck with his fingers repeatedly. He knows Bokuto practiced this — he needs to get it out even if it’s pointless to sing to the choir.
“-I know I can make you happier if you were my girlfriend. Happier than anyone else.” He takes your hand in his shaking one, placing the small heart-shaped cardboard box in it. “I-I promise,” he says much quieter now. “Please tell me you feel the same. I won’t bother you anymore if you don’t, though.”
His heart is racing. Absolutely sprinting and trying to leap out of his mouth and onto the ground between the two of you. All of his senses are on high as he stares at you with owl-like eyes, looking at you for an answer he’s hoping for.
An answer you already signaled to Akaashi just a few moments ago when Bokuto asked.
An answer you’ve been working up the courage to say yourself.
“Boku,” you start softly, making Bokuto flinch. “I’d be happy to be your girlfriend.”
Like the hyper-energetic and simply happy high school boy he is, Bokuto’s face breaks out into a grin accompanied by a victory cry. You’re laughing when he picks you up in a bone-crushing hug and spins you around. The two of you — god he loves the sound of that — are a spewing fire hydrant of happy, causing Akaashi to smile and the other team members to curiously turn around to corner due to all the commotion.
“What’s going on here?” Washio whispers to Akaashi.
Akaashi leans over to his teammate’s ear. “Bokuto confessed to Y/N and she accepted his feelings.”
“The second year?” Washio’s alarmed tone reaches the two love birds in the midst of their silly celebrating.
“Washio, one of these days you’ll have learn more about Y/N. You won’t be uninformed about my girlfriend ever again — not on my watch!” he states proudly, holding your hand while you hold his gift in your other hand.
At this point, the whole team has gradually crowded around, all of them understanding what Bokuto’s words mean.
They’ll never hear the end of Bokuto and Y/N’s love story. No, they’ll hear an over-exaggerated version and they’ll add to it themselves as the months go by, boosting his confidence little by little until he finally has the courage to give you a different tiny box made of velvet.

Birthday Wish
Note: In honor of Obito’s birthday on February 10th, a small drabble. I’d like to think this takes place in the unmentioned time-skip between S&S 23 and 24. So right before Kannabi drama.
Inspired by some of the ASMR I’ve been listening to for studying/relaxing purposes. The song I recommend for this small thing is an ending from Mermaid Melody, my childhood anime. I’ll just link the piano version here since otherwise, listening to the actual song is going to make the ace in me go into an embarrassed fit from how the composers decided to put kiss noises into an otherwise cute song. Aah. If you want to still hear the original song, then don’t say I didn’t warn you. It is from an early 2000s shoujo anime.
Still. Go on and enjoy.
Kei’s here because @langwrites/Lang’s been a grounding rock when bad bad midterms punched me in the face to the point of being incoherent to Leo. So there. She’s a friend I can’t stop being grateful for.
This takes place on the same couch shown in this oneshot.
--------------------------------------
Tap tap.
Obito slowly opened his eyes with a groan, the fuzzy feeling in his right ear having faded for cool air. What touched his shoulder?
“Obi,” Tomo-chan’s voice echoed softly above his head and he shifted, barely registering the gentle chiding in her words. If he didn’t know any better, it sounded like she had just finished singing. Still, she tapped his shoulder again. Tap tap. “I can’t work on your other ear if you just lie there half-asleep.”
“Fiiiiine,” he mumbled, rolling over to face the other way. It took a moment to realize that his nose was mere centimeters away from Tomo-chan’s stomach and he felt his heart skip a beat. When did the air smell sweet? Was it the laundry detergent from her skirt? “I-Is this good?”
“Aye.” There was a thoughtful hum above his head, signalling that Tomo-chan was smiling. “Actually, wait. Give me a moment.” A hand was touching the back of his head now, rustling his hair and Obito stayed as still as possible as Tomo-chan proceeded to gently nudge him towards lying on her knees. It only took a second for Tomo-chan to let go. He then heard a small, “There we go,” before the bamboo stick was gently poking around in his left ear. “Just tell me if it hurts, Obi.”
“Sureeee…” Obito tried not to yawn, but he never thought he’d see the day ear cleaning could be relaxing. Then again, this was Tomo-chan. She somehow made things lighter, brighter, all of that sunshine stuff. It was really hard to refuse her when she came up to him with the sparkly eyes about trying something new for his 13th birthday.
Scritch, scritch, scritch, the stick went.
Huh. Now that he thought about it…
“Tomo-chan?”
“Muu?”
“Who taught you this stuff?” Obito held back the urge to shift, closing his eyes and exhaling in content as soon as the fluffy cotton puff started swabbing at the outer lobe of his left ear. “I don’t think Rin did…” He peeked out from under his eyelids to look at his only other teammate in close vicinity and Kei glanced up from her book with a crooked smirk. “Kei?”
“Don’t look at me,” she said innocently, shrugging her shoulders. “This was all Tomo’s idea.”
“Yes and no, actually.” A nervous giggle echoed above his ear and Obito blinked to see Tomo-chan’s short hair bob in the air as she breathed, inclining her head to look down at him. “I had the idea, sure, but Mama taught me everything. I don’t know where she learned how to do it, but she was really good at it. I think I’m alright, but if I mess up—”
“You’re fine, Tomo,” Kei interrupted, a snicker in her voice. “It looks like Obito’s going to melt any second now.”
“I-I’m not!”
The fuzzy ball of cotton prodded at the inside of his ear in a soft brushing gesture and Obito paused. Then again…
“Hee hee.” Tomo-chan giggled, her other hand gently stroking the top of his hair as she continued cleaning whatever was in there. “As long as you’re enjoying the ear cleaning, Obi, then my job’s good.”
Obito was tempted to roll his eyes, but opted to close them instead, choosing to ignore Kei’s nearby snickering. Tomo-chan seemed happy too, so he wasn’t going to complain. He could take a nap like this. Maybe.
Scritch, scritch, scritch, the ear cleaner added.
“…Neh, Obi?”
Obito blinked the sleep away from his eyes for the second time, considering his options before slowly shifting from his place in Tomo-chan’s lap to look up at her. It took some effort to deftly avoid the ear cleaner in her hand. “What is it, Tomo-chan?”
Tomo-chan blinked, a surprised pink covering her nose before she puffed her colored cheeks in protest. “You didn’t have to move over to see my face, Obi. There’s nothing here and I was still in the middle of getting something.”
“Heh, sorry,” Obito grinned anyways. She was close enough for him to hear her breathing. “Still, what’s up?”
Obito did not miss how Kei slowly closed her book to pay attention.
Tomo-chan blinked slowly at him, the flush on her cheeks fading for a thoughtful look. “Mm, how to put this?” She closed her eyes and laughed softly. “I was just thinking, ‘What would Obi want for his next birthday?’ Since this is the best I can give right now, this year.”
Obito glanced at Kei from his vantage point on Tomo-chan’s lap. Kei gave him a single look back, shrugging this time in her usual “You handle this” way.
Well then.
Obito closed his eyes, put a hand to his heart, and went with his gut.
“I’d just like to be with everyone forever.”
As small as it was, Tomo-chan flinched. “…Fweh?”
“It’s because the war’s still going on, y’know? And I know I like being in Konoha, with Sensei, with Kushina-san, with Rin-chan, with Kei, with Hayate, with Miyako-san and Wataru-san, with Hikari-bachan and Judai-jichan, with everyone here — hell!” Obito barked a laugh. “I can tolerate Kakashi!”
Tomo-chan had gone completely silent.
Obito had no clue if he had messed up or just scared her with his honesty, but he went on anyways, reaching over with his other arm to pat her head. At least, pat her head as much as he could considering he was still laying in her lap.
“But hey.” A smile tugged at his lips. “I know that for my next birthday, I just want to be here with you again, Tomo-chan.”
He was not expecting something wet to fall into his hair.
“Tomo?” Kei already sounded alert as soon as Obito blinked his eyes open and Tomo-chan was shaking her head.
“I-I’m okay, I’m okay, I’m okay,” she squeaked, her free hand covering her eyes as her shoulders shook. “I-I just, I just,” there was a little hitch in her voice that otherwise wasn’t there before. “I wasn’t expecting that.” Tomo-chan then pulled her hand away, revealing warm blue eyes rimmed with a little red. “Y-You really mean that, Obi?”
Oh.
He immediately sat up on the couch, ignoring any urge to sleep to instead wrap an arm around her in a hug. There was no mistaking the shock, the unspoken hurt in those blue eyes. A friend needed comfort, now. “Of course I do!”
Kei had joined into the hug too with an arm around them both, book left back on the couch cushions. “We all know about Obito’s Chronic Hero Syndrome, Tomo,” she said soothingly, reaching up to pat Tomo-chan’s hair. “But you don’t have anything to worry about. I’ll keep him in line.”
“Oi. I’m not chopped liver, Kei!”
Kei stuck her tongue out at him over Tomo-chan’s head.
Tomo-chan meanwhile glanced between the both of them before letting out a small, teary laugh. “I-I hope so. I really really hope so.” Her arms wound around them both as she smiled. “I’d like to be with everyone forever too.”
Kei didn’t say anything after that, merely opting to gently bonk the crown of Tomo-chan’s hair with her chin.
Obito hugged Tomo-chan harder after that instead, asking the question to drive off the small bit of desperation leaking into his voice. “Do you still want to finish the ear cleaning, Tomo-chan? Just to distract you?”
“I-I’d like that.” There was a pause. “There’s no luck in me asking if you two could forget that I was about to cry, huh?”
“Nope.”
Kei bonked Tomo-chan’s head with her chin again. “Nada. Deal with it.”
Tomo-chan laughed, sounding a bit more like her happy sparkly self again. “Dorks.”
Obito held back a sigh. “We’re your dorks, Tomo-chan. We’ll always be.”
That was how it was going to be. That’s how it’s supposed to be. Obito wanted it to stay that way.
Nothing pained him more than to see one of his precious people close to crying on his birthday.
Never again.
The war had to end sooner or later. Else he’d throw hands.

Brothers Conflict - Passion Pink Prologue part 3 + more
PLEASE TELL ME WHICH ROUTE I SHOULD FOLLOW FIRST
Is Fuuto alright? Because I surprisingly lowkey like him, even though many seem to hate him (I can definitely see where this is coming from). So would you please be kind enough and let me know which route I should follow first?
*Notes*
I have finally, and I cannot stress this enough, finally been able to translate. Though I read somewhere that there is a translation of BroCon already and I got a bit disheartened. Anyways, let me know if I should keep translating like this. So, in this part a lot of things happened. First and foremost, WE GOT OUT OF THE PROLOGUE. We also got to make choices, and I chose Tsubaki ( I tried all the options but Tsubaki’s reaction was the most rewarding, so I went along with that). There was also the schedule mode, so if you have any activities to suggest please do so. I’m not sure how this will work but I imagine that it will be more or less similar to the Dandelion activity system? Let’s hope for the best. Now, proceed!
Kaname
[ Well, it’s whatever about Yuu-chan. More importantly, won’t you just once call me “Big Brother” ? ] Ayame
[ Eh? Uhm… B-Big brother…? ]
Kaname
[ Ah, that truly was somewhat nice. ]
Tsubaki
[ Eh, wait a sec, do you think that’s fair Kana!? Me too! I also want to call me “Big Brother”-! ]
Azusa
[ Aah, Tsubaki finds little sister characters moe, so… ]
Ayame
[ …He finds little sister characters moe… WHAT!? ]
Tsubaki
[ Why don’t you call Azusa too? “Big Brother”, like that-♪  Come on★ ]
Kaname
[ No, lil’ sis will only call me like that! ]
Ayame
[ Eh…? Eh…?? ]
Juri
[ What’s wrong with these brothers… Well then, Chii. What are you going to do? ]
Juri
[ I’m sure they’ll keep begging you till you say it. ]
Ayame
[ I… ]
/Choice being made here/ (1) Say it to Kaname (2) Say it to Tsubaki < -- (3) Say it to Azusa
Ayame
[ B-Big Brother!]
Tsubaki
[ …Wha! So cute-!! That’s bad ★Now, I can feel the tension rising up! Hey- Hey-, would you say it again? ]
Ayame
[ I- I can’t…! ]
Tsubaki
[ Eeh, why not-!? ]
Ukyo
[ *sigh* Problematic  from the very first day, these children are. I’m sorry. ]
Ayame
[ No, being able to meet my brothers, it makes me absolutely delighted. ]
Tsubaki
[ Is that true? Then say “Big brother” for me once more★ Please! ]
Kaname
[ It’s just as Tsuba-chan said! Come on! ]
Ayame
[ ( Uhm, did I just say something unnecessary, I wonder…?  ) ]
Ayame
[ ( After this, I’ll end up having to say “Big Brother” a lot more but… ) ]
Ayame
[ ( the warmth of my new family reached my heart ) ]
Ayame
[ May 22nd… ]
Ayame
[ ( Meeting my new brothers for the very first time was a day I’d never forget. ) ]
//May 23rd//
Juri
[ *yawn* Is it alright to go to the living room this early in the morning? ]
Ayame
[ I guess. The key is hidden under the flower pot next to the entrance so that I can enter freely. ]
Juri
[ Under the flower pot…  Really!?  Hey, wait. ]
Juri
[ Is it okay to have security this poor nowadays!? Does this family have no knowledge of crime prevention!? ]
Ayame
[ I was also surprised by that. ]
Juri
[ Impossible. Supposing that something happens to you Chii, what are you going to do? We absolutely have to get Kenko Security… ]
Ayame
[ Now now, the elevator requires a special key and so do the auto-locks, so it’s okay. ]
Ayame
[ …And, huh? It seems to be unlocked. ]
Juri
[ It must be that one of these brothers gets up really early. ]
Juri
[ By the way, Chii. What do you need to do there? ]
Ayame
[ I was thinking of preparing the breakfast. I can at least do this much… ]
Tumblr media
Kaname
[ Huh? Lil’ sis, good morning ]
Subaru
[ …Mornin’.]
Ayame
[ Good morning. Both of you are up early. ]
Kaname
[ Yeah, we went for a run. Suba-chan never loses his morning run. I, on the other hand, just went along for some company. ]
Ayame
[ ( I wouldn’t say that Kaname seems like the healthy type, but surprisingly he keeps fit. ) ]
Kaname
[ Ah, just now, you thought that this was surprising, didn’t you? ]
Ayame
[ Eh…!? T-that’s not…! ]
Kaname
[ Haha! You’re so easy to read lil’ sis~. By the way, why are you up this early? ]
Ayame
[ I… Thought I’d make some breakfast but… ]
Kaname
[ Eeh. A woman in an apron, that would be quite the sight~! ]
Ayame
[ W-wait Kaname, that’s… ]
Ayame
[ ( Huh? ) ]
Subaru
[ … ]
Ayame
[ ( Just now, Subaru’s eyes met mine,  but… It seems like he, looked away? Indeed, Subaru’s the silent type... ) ]
Kaname
[ I’m looking forward to your breakfast. ]
Ayame
[ Yes. Well then, I’m off to the kitchen... ]
Ayame
[ Huh? There seems to be someone in the kitchen…? ]
Tumblr media
Ukyo
[ Good morning, Ayame-chan. ]
Ayame
[ Good morning. Ukyo, you’re up early. ]
Ukyo
[ I am the one preparing the meals. Would you mind helping a bit today? ]
Ayame
[ You do? I’d like to help but I hope I won’t cause any trouble. ]
Ukyo
[ With so many people to feed, your assistance would be of great help. ]
Ukyo
[ Well then…, is it okay if I leave the miso soup to you? ]
Ayame
[ Miso soup? Got it. ]
Ayame
[ ( I started chopping the miso soup ingredients... ) ]
Ayame
[ ( Then for the soup stock ) ]
Ukyo
[ Just now, what did you use for the soup stock? ]
Ayame
[ Eh? The soup stock? I used a pack from there, but… ]
Ukyo
[ Does it contain dried bonito flakes and such…? ]
Ayame
[ Dried bonito flakes…? ]
Ukyo
[ Ah… Pay me no mind. ]
Ayame
[ Eh…? ]
Ayame
[ ( Perhaps, Ukyo likes to add dried bonito flakes in his soup? I, have never done this before… ) ]
Ayame
[ Kya…!? ]
Ayame
[ ( Just now, it felt as if something brushed my hair…? ) ]
Tumblr media
???
[ Orange… Very good. ]
Ayame
[ …!? U-uhm… And you are…? ]
Ukyo
[ Ah, I haven’t introduced you yet, have I. ]
Ukyo
[ He’s Subaru’s older brother, Louis. He got home late yesterday and thus he was not able to meet you with the others... ]
Ayame
[ Nice to meet you. I’m Ayame. ]
Louis
[ Yes. ]
Ayame [ ( Is he going to keep touching my hair…? ) ]
Ayame
[ U-uhm…? ]
Louis
[ Beautiful hair. It seems like it may frizz easily though. Let me tell you a good treatment another time. ]
Ayame
[ W-Wha…? ]
Louis
[ Ukyo, I’m hungry. ]
Ukyo
[ It will be ready in a while, so please wait in the living room. ]
Louis
[ Yeah, I’ll do that. ]
Ayame
[ Uhm… Louis is…? ]
Ukyo
[ Ah, pardon me. Louis is a hair stylist. Even outside of work, he’s always interested in people’s hair. ]
Ayame
[ Ah, I see. That makes sense. ]
Ayame
[ ( How should I put it, he seems like a “my pace” mysterious guy… ]
Ukyo
[ Ayame, it’s about time for everyone to wake up.  Let’s bring out the food to the table now. ]
Ayame
[ Yes. ]
Tsubaki
[ Let’s dig in! Ah, today’s miso soup is delicious! ]
Azusa
[ Indeed, it’s delicious. Kyo, did you make the miso soup differently? ]
Ukyo
[ …!! ]
Ayame
[ …!! ]
Tsubaki
[ Kyo, for some reason your face’s all frowned. Is something the matter? ]
Ukyo
[ …No. ]
Ayame
[ ( Stone me… Ukyo’s face! It’s grim!! What could be coming next… ) ]
Ayame
[ U-uhm, why don’t we turn on the TV. Ahaha! ]
Azusa
[ …? ]
Tumblr media
Ayame
[ …Ah, it’s Asakura Fuuto. ]
Ayame
[ ( On the screen was the popular idol Asakura Fuuto. ) ]
Ayame
[ ( Lately, the young idol has appeared in dramas, and many of my friends were his fans. ) ]
Tumblr media
Tsubaki
[ … That sure is a smile full of lies-. ]
Azusa
[ As always, his song is not that good. ]
Ayame
[ …? ]
Ayame
[ Considering the fact that you two share a similar line of work, that was rather harsh. ]
Tsubaki
[ Was it. ]
Wataru
[ But, his dancing is cool! ]
Ayame
[ Isn’t it? I also like Asakura’s dancing. ]
Wataru
[ Right, right? ]
Ayame
[ ( Wataru seems kinda happy. I wonder if he’s a fan of Asakura? ) ]
Iori
[ Now that I think about it, I think I haven’t seen him around in a while. ]
Iori
[ He’s on tour, if I’m not mistaken… ]
Kaname
[ Where is he now? In Hokkaido?? ]
Azusa
[ Perhaps he’ll bring me crab? Though sea urchins would be nice too… ]
Louis
[ Both. … Then, melon too. ]
Ayame
[ ( Eh…? Why did the suddenly start making such comments upon seeing Asakura Fuuto? ) ]
Ayame
[ Maybe… Everyone in this family is a fan of Asakura? ]
Kaname
[ Haha! Not in the slightest. ]
Iori
[ Huh? Could it be that no one has told her? ]
Ayame
[ Eh? About what? ]
Iori
[ Listen. Fuuto is the second youngest of us brothers… What I’m trying to say is that he’s your younger brother. ]
Ayame
[ Eh, EEEEH!? ]
Iori
[ Asakura is just a stage name. ]
Ayame
[ Ha, haha… Seriously, you guys. ]
Ayame
[ ( A celebrity being my brother… ) ]
Ayame
[ ( Now that I think about it, this is truly an incredible family I have joined in. ) ]
Ayame
[ ( Will I manage to fit in, I wonder…) ]
Ukyo
[ What is the matter? You haven’t eaten anything yet. ]
Ayame
[ N-no! That’s not the case, uhm… ]
Ukyo
[ …? ]
Ayame
[ I thought I had done a good job with the miso soup. …But... ]
Ayame
[ Ukyo. I had never known of a method using the dried bonito flakes. ]
Ayame
[ I hope you’ll be able to teach me again in the future, would that be alright? ]
Ukyo
[ Yeah, of course. That’s fine. …Though, know that my teaching is strict. ]
Ayame
[ I’ll do my best!]
Ayame
[ ( It’s only the first day, but I hope we can all get along as a family... ]
Ayame
[ ( …By the way, when he said “my teaching is strict”, it gave off a feeling I cannot identify... It might be a bit scary… ) ]
Ayame
[ *yawn* Well then, I guess that’s about it then? ]
Juri
[ I guess. The large furniture has all been moved. Now it’d be good to get the smaller things in order. ]
Ayame
[ In the end, this weekend concluded the acquaintanceships and tidying up. ]
Juri
[ That’s moving in for ya. ]
Ayame
[ You’re right. ]
Juri
[ Chii, don’t tell me, you’re still nervous? ]
Ayame
[ No, I’m fine now. Every acquaintance has been a real heart-throb. But I’m glad everyone is so kind. ]
Juri
[ Even on stage one, everyone seems to have a strong personality. ]
Ayame
[ Ahaha… You’ve got a point. To have so different kinds of brothers, I was really surprised. Eleven people, it’s really incredible. ]
Juri
[ What do you think? Are things going smoothly with them? ]
Ayame
[ I wonder…  ]
//Choice being made here// (1) I believe things are going smoothly < -- (2) Honestly, I’m uneasy
Ayame
[ It’s fine. I think everything’s going smoothly. ]
Juri
[ I see. Well that’s reassuring. ]
Ayame
[ I know it’s just the start, but I hope I can get along with all of them. ]
Juri
[ That’s good. You still have school tomorrow, right Chii? ]
Ayame
[ Yeah. ]
Juri
[ If that’s the case, you’d better prepare a schedule for tomorrow. ]
Ayame
[ Schedule? ]
Juri
[ That’s right. You can decide your weekday schedule for each week. ]
//Schedule mode opens//
Tumblr media
Juri
[ Every week on Sunday night you make your schedule. From the next day on, you’ll follow that schedule. ]
Juri
[ To set up the schedule, select a week day first. ]
Tumblr media
Juri
[ Then, you’ll choose what activity you want to do with whom. ]
Juri
[ You can either select an Asahina brother or family. For the family option, click on me. ]
Juri
[ You can also do things on your own if you select yourself, Chii. ]
Juri
[ First you decide “with whom” you want to hang out and then “what to do”. ]
Juri
[ Apart from the days off and when it’s an item you don’t possess, or if things are incomplete, so be cautious! ]
Juri
[ Also, once you have decided on a schedule, it’s not possible to re-enter, so I want you to be careful. ]
Juri
[ You can see the schedule you’ve decided on by checking out the calendar screen. ]
Juri
[ Whatever the status of the schedule, once you hit the “Set” button, the selection will be complete. ]
Juri
[ Again, you have your parameters too. First, “Family Love Meter”. ]
Juri
[ This is an indication of your relationship level with the Asahina brothers as your family. It will increase each time you choose something to do as a family. ]
Juri
[ …By the way, you can also see your relationship with a particular brother on the “Likeability Screen”. ]
Juri
[ Chii, I believe you know this already, but YOU’RE BECOMING WAY TOO CLOSE WITH THEM!!! ]
Juri
[ Let’s talk about something else. Next is, “Fatigue”. ]
Juri
[ This indicates when you, Chi, are tired. If it accumulates, you can’t do regular activities. At times like this, you can play a game alone as to relieve your stress. ]
Juri
[ Another thing is “Money”. ]
Juri
[ This is how much you have. ]
Juri
[ It will increase by working part-time. ]
Juri
[ If you’re short on money, you can’t buy presents like DVDs and other items, so be sure to remember it! ]
Juri
[ What do you think? Do you understand? ]
Ayame
[ You bet! Thank you, Juri! ]
Juri
[ Great, well then for tomorrow, will you wake up early or rest? Also for tomorrow, will you help Ukyo prepare breakfast again? ]
Ayame
[ Yeah, that was my intention. ]
Juri
[ Chii. Tomorrow morning I want to eat rice and natto. ]
Ayame
[ ( A squirrel that asks for rice and natto… ) ]
Ayame
[ Yeah, I can do that. Well then, good night, Juri. ]
Juri
[ Yeah, good night. ]

Red Data Girl: My Wish on the Night of the Shooting Stars (Week 23)
Red Data Girl: My Wish on the Night of the Shooting Stars By Noriko Ogiwara A Translation
Miss the last piece? Read it here!
Check out the RDG Translation twitter!
Help me pay for my next translation project on Ko-fi.
It’s nearly summer! There’s another twenty or so days left of school and then we’re done! I think we’re all ready for the vacation (students and teachers), but we still have some fun things to do before we say goodbye including a major class trip and the musical. It should be a good last few days!
RDG will be going back to a weekly posting schedule starting on June 23 and going through the end of August.
We will be finishing RDG early in September!
Last year, Noriko Ogiwara, the author, published a book of RDG short stories titled Ice Shoes, Glass Shoes. I bought this while I was in Japan last summer, and I do plan to translate it like I have the rest of the series. However, I’d like to start a new project after RDG 6 ends and then speckle those short stories in here and there as I go.
I’ll have more information on what that next project will be as we get closer to the end of RDG. I tend to post more detailed information about my translation on my RDG translation twitter. Click the link above and follow if you’d like to hear more.
Finally, happy 5 year anniversary to the RDG translation! I can’t believe it’s been this long!
Translation notes:
This is what a Heian era nobleman would wear.
This is an ascetic monk/mountain monk outfit.
Red Data Girl: My Wish on the Night of the Shooting Stars By Noriko Ogiwara Chapter 3: Winter Solstice Part 3 (1 of 2)
With Mayura’s help, Izumiko quickly decided on what she would wear to Saturday’s party.
Coming to the conclusion that buying something that could only be worn to a party would be a waste, they had decided to buy outfits they could wear on a normal day out and then accented them with corsages and jewelry. During the holiday season, any accessory shop was full to the brim with cute items. Izumiko and Mayura had gone from one to another, enjoying themselves, and buying things here and there.
But then, two days before the party, it was time to carry the decorations over to the space where the party would occur. Hoshino, the planning chief, declared their new outfits unnecessary.
“We placed a rental order with the same group we used for the festival, so we have professionals to help us set up and break down. Plus, we get ten costume rentals included in the price. We have the teachers’ permission to use those rentals, and we’re planning to have the student government wear them. Claus has dibs on the Santa Claus costume, but we have costumes for the rest of the members, too. This is my decision as planning chief.”
The only people looking at each other in surprise were the first years. The second years appeared to somehow already be aware of this decision. They all looked calm.
Angelica was also at the meeting that day. “I always planned to go to the party in costume, so I’ll be attending in my own outfit,” she said brightly. “My highly esteemed father brought me one.”
The first year student government members looked at each other again. It was becoming clearer that Angelica’s showy Warring States era costume from the festival had been a product of her father’s interest in anime. They were sure her next costume would be something amazing, too.
“Will we be able to… choose the costume we like?” Shimamoto asked the chief nervously.
“You can choose from what’s being ordered,” Hoshino replied sternly. “Choice number one is the Cinderella series. Choice two, the Little Red Riding Hood series. Choice three, animal costumes. That’s it.”
“What? Just those three?”
“During the school festival, we could only dress as kuroko, right? This time instead of just that, we’re all going to work at this party in the showiest costumes possible. It’s important that we make our guests feel welcome.”
Once Hoshino was finished speaking, Honoka spoke up, her voice serious as well. “Right. Obviously, Ichijo Takayanagi will be planning to talk himself up in one way or another while Izumiko does her best to not draw attention to herself. I think it would be good for Izumiko to choose an animal costume so that she can hide her braids. Everyone else will choose whatever showy costume they want, and do their best to make it hard for Takayanagi to stand out. President Murakami can’t make it on Saturday, but those are the instructions he’s left for us.”
Mayura appeared to automatically agree with the plan. “I get it. So that’s how we’re going to do it,” she murmured enthusiastically.
Manatsu raised a hand quickly. “I’ll choose an animal costume, too. I’ve always wanted to try one on.
“What costume are you going to choose, President Kisaragi?”
Once asked, Honoka puffed out her chest, and answered. “Isn’t it obvious? I’m going to be the prince from Cinderella. I wouldn’t give up that costume to anyone else.”
Knowing that she would have never chosen a princess costume, all eyes turned to Hayakawa who was looking visibly upset over this development. Clearly, he had been hoping for this costume as well.
On the day of the party, once everyone was changed into the costumes they had rented and got a chance to see what everyone else was wearing, it was plain to see that Honoka’s prince costume was far more impressive than anyone had expected. The whole Cinderella series had an early eighteenth century Rococo look to it. The prince costume was comprised of a tailcoat embroidered in gold and silver thread, a frilly shirt, shoes complete with ribbons, and a curly, white wig. No one had ever seen such a formally dressed prince costume before this.
The second-year bespectacled duo had chosen to dress as the prince’s attendants and were wearing something similar to Honoka with black hats tilted far back on their heads. They would walk around carrying a glass shoe, looking for a girl who might be able to fit into it.
It had been decided that Izumiko would wear a reindeer costume. It would go well with Claus’s Santa suit, thus keeping the spotlight off of her.
In a spare room, Izumiko slowly tried to pull the brown costume on over a t-shirt and light pants. Seeing as she was so petite, the pants attached to the bodysuit were far too long, but not so oversized that she wouldn’t be able to walk in it.
“This is the first time I’ve worn an animal costume…”
“Generally, I’d say there aren’t many people who have.” Mayura laughed as she closed the fastener at the back of Izumiko’s costume. She was wearing a kerchief over her hair with a patched blouse that matched a well-worn skirt and apron. There was soot on her face as well. For the second half of the party though, she would change into a Rococo princess dress, which would make her the flashiest person in the room.
“The chairman will probably be on the party floor today, so Sagara and I will make contact with him and try to figure out what the adults here have planned,” Mayura informed Izumiko. “You, on the other hand, should stay as far away from the chairman and the other adults as possible.”
“Right.”
The reindeer head was overly large, and looked as silly on Izumiko as it would have on a child. As a result, there was something charming about the way the antlers and muzzle rested over her head and face. Unfortunately, however, the mask’s big, round eyes were at the height of her forehead, and the only way she could see out was through the mask’s mouth. The opening there had netting stretched across it, creating a small window. That made Izumiko’s line of sight narrow, and when the head shifted even slightly, Izumiko lost her view. All in all, it was difficult for her to see the world beyond the inside of the reindeer head.
The polyurethane crafted head might have been a pain to wear, but at least it wasn’t heavy. Still, it was difficult to move in seeing as she couldn’t see her feet very well. What was more, as she didn’t know how tall she was in the reindeer head and kept bumping into this and that as she made her way out of the empty room. The whole getup was much harder to manage than she had thought it would be. Mayura held her hand all the way to the auditorium where the party was being held.
And so, when they arrived in the hall, they were surprised to see someone in a wolf costume, not unlike Izumiko’s, jumping around excitedly. Obviously, it was Manatsu, but Izumiko still couldn’t believe he could move around like that.
Mayura was also amazed by her brother.
“What’s up with you bouncing around like that? Is it really that fun to wear an animal costume?”
“Nah. That’s not why I’m so happy,” the wolf with its tongue sticking out said in Manatsu’s voice. He pointed towards something with a gloved hand. “If you look at Little Red Riding Hood, you’ll know why the wolf is so excited.”
They turned their heads to see a cute girl wearing a bright red cloak and holding a basket. She was standing nearby, surrounded by second year students. It was Wataru Shimamoto, grinning from ear to ear from all the praise he was getting.
Staring at the very cute Red Riding hood, it sounded very much as if Mayura muttered under her breath, “Oh no. He’s going to get way more attention than me.”
There was someone dressed as an old witch in a black cloak standing next to Shimamoto. It was Rena Akinokawa in the outfit, which only made Shimamoto seem that much more innocent in his own costume.
“The student government went all the way with this. Do you think it’ll be enough that Takayanagi will give up on standing out?”
Manatsu answered his sister’s question, his voice uninterested. “You don’t need to worry about that. Look over there.”
Izumiko reached up and moved the reindeer head with her hand so that she could look in the direction he had indicated. Ichijo Takayanagi had just walked through the entrance to the hall. Indeed, she could see why there was no need for them to worry about him tonight. Takayanagi’s costume was a Heian era noble’s outfit. The overshirt he wore with hakama pants was dark blue and the shirt underneath was red and white. To complete the look, he wore a tall, black, narrow hat on his head. The whole ensemble made Takayanagi’s small frame larger than it normally appeared.
…He went way too far…
Izumiko and Mayura were left speechless as they watched Takayanagi approach. The costume didn’t make any sense in the context of a Christmas party, but it certainly matched the wearer.
“Thank you for dropping your barrier today,” Takayanagi said in his Heian attire. He stared straight at Izumiko in her reindeer costume. “I knew as soon as it disappeared this morning. I made a new shikigami. Isn’t that great?”
“…Ah, sure.” Izumiko emphasized her words with a careful nod of the reindeer head. First thing that morning, she had recited the charm Miyuki had taught her. However, as she hadn’t sensed anything change, this was the first time since then that she knew for sure that it had worked.
Right… There are going to be shikigami around today, and I’m going to have to deal with them.
“Don’t use your shikigami for anything so big that you make trouble for the people around you,” Izumiko said, intending to sound firm, but Takayanagi was unfazed.
“I can’t really guarantee that. No matter what you might tell me, I’m the one in charge today.”
Mayura, standing there in her housekeeper’s costume complete with a long broom, scowled. “If Izumiko says to do something, you do it,” she broke in. “You’re just a diviner who uses minions to do your bidding. If you do what you want to do, we’ll kick you out of here.”
Takayanagi ignored Mayura. He turned back to Izumiko and continued on in the same tone as before. “Izumiko, you should be more receptive towards shikigami. We diviners are well versed in using spirits. You should know more about what we do just in case you ever want to join us. True cooperation cannot be achieved where there is no understanding, wouldn’t you agree?”
“I’m guessing you want me to say that from here on out, I’ll let you use shikigami anytime you want on campus?” Izumiko responded cautiously.
“I’m acting as the top of the school’s public face because of your own strategies, aren’t I? Being who I am, I want to know a little more about you seeing as you’ve hidden yourself away from the public eye all this time. That way, I can be useful to you on my own terms even when you do not lift the seal on my abilities. While you might have sworn that you will not release the bonds you have placed on me, might it be correct that we’ll never fully come to a true understanding of each other as long as we are held within this arrangement?”
What he’s saying is true… Izumiko thought.
No one wanted to be controlled, Izumiko considered vaguely to herself. With that said though, she seemed to be fine being the one controlling someone else. She hadn’t thought about it that way until now, and it made her inwardly cringe.
“That’s true, but… Takayanagi, is there any way that I can convince you to stop using shikigami for good?”
“Using shikigami is the foundation of diviner’s magic. That’s something you’re unwilling to accept, isn’t it? However, like the Soudas, you can’t say that you feel uncomfortable dealing with the spirits of the dead. You’re working with one right now, aren’t you?”
Again, Izumiko couldn’t help but think over the words Takayanagi had said so confidently.
“Izumiko, don’t listen to him,” Mayura said sharply. She had not been tempted to rethink her opinions. “He was born talking garbage.”
Miyuki’s voice was suddenly audible from the side of their small gathering. “That’s so true. Save all those fancy words you’re trying to confuse Izumiko with for after this party. You should know that whatever you say, it’s not going to work anyway.”
Izumiko hadn’t seen Miyuki in the auditorium before now, but it seemed as if he had been close enough to hear the conversation that was going on. She turned the reindeer head to look at him and her eyes instantly went wide.
“Sagara… that costume…”
“It’s just a costume.”
“But it’s…”
“I said, it’s just a costume.”
Miyuki’s appearance was shocking enough to rival Takayanagi’s Heian outfit. He was dressed in full ascetic monk garb, complete with a wide shouldered traditional vest adorned with soft, pom pom looking decorations worn over hakama pants. There were cloth wrist coverings on his arms and straw sandals on his feet. He was wearing a stiff looking hat on his head and a braided cord wrapped around his waist held a small leather pelt in place against his back that would have been useful if he had needed to sit down on wet or dirty ground. And of course, he was holding a staff in his hands.
This was the first time even Izumiko had seen Miyuki dressed in full ascetic monk attire. However, she had absolutely no clue why he had gone to such lengths.
“But that’s not the costume the student government rented,” Izumiko said.
Miyuki answered in a strained voice. “One of the other students grabbed mine before I could get to it and the only costume left was Cinderella’s sister. I wasn’t crazy about either of them, but between the two, this seemed like the better choice.”
“Those are some interesting choices…”
Mayura looked as if she were about to say something, but she held her tongue with Takayanagi there with them.
Shimamoto, standing a bit apart from them, had something to say though.
“Oh man, too bad, Sagara!” he called over. “So I’m really the only guy dressed as a girl here?”
“Shut up. You can’t complain about something while everyone’s complimenting you on it,” Miyuki retorted.
He looked towards Takayanagi next. “I don’t think Izumiko’s power and your magic really have much in common, but if you’re saying you want to work together, we can probably come up with some sort of compromise or agreement. From here on, we need focus on figuring out more about how the goddess works.”
Tayakanagagi took in Miyuki’s outfit with interest, just like everyone else.
“Are you saying that as the ascetic monk’s representative, Sagara?”
“Probably not. Who are the people who are coming to see the World Heritage Candidate student today? Are they parents of exchange students?”
Takayanagi’s tone relaxed at Miyuki’s question. “It’s not necessarily going to be all foreigners. There could be some Japanese inspectors too. Either way, they’ll be people who know a lot about World Heritage.”
“Can they see shikigami?”
“Maybe. Maybe not. People’s understanding of shikigami most likely varies from place to place. A Japanese inspector would be more likely to know the same things we do because they’re Japanese.” Takayanagi readjusted his hat with a hand and then continued. “That’s the case with anything based in history. I don’t believe most average people in the world today can distinguish between diviners and ascetic monks. Therefore, I see nothing wrong with what I said before. It would be possible for Izumiko to join the diviners.”

send me a pairing and I’ll tell you who:
falls asleep on the couch: Wataru probably because being a fool takes a lot outta ya yanno??? And Natsume is just ‘fufufu yes good’, maybe plays with his hair a little its probably super cute.
makes friends with the neighbors: Both but maybe Natsume at first likes to mess with the neighbors until Wataru is like :I stop this dear, and Natsume is like UGH FINE...
is the adventurous eater: Probably both!!! Natsumeme likes to make new things and eat them once he knows it’s safe, and Wataru likes to point randomly on the menu and take whatever.
hogs the covers at night: Natsume, he curl, but this is remedied by Wataru snuggling him. They can share if they snuggle.
forgets to do the dishes: Neither, what are dishes, they’re both magic so no one ever sees their sink w/dishes in it...
tries to surprise their partner more often: Wataru and Natsume have a surprise off. It’s one week of just surprises. At the end of the day, Wataru gives in because Natsume’s magic is unique and different and wonderful and Wataru loves seeing it.
leaves dirty laundry on the floor: Natsume maybe he’s too busy with other things and Wataru likes to throw it on his head lmaooooo
stays up til 2 AM reading: Natsume, magic books and spells lmao... But Wataru is always mispronouncing things and Natsume ends up either upset or laughing at Wataru’s efforts
sings in the shower: Again, Rainbow Circus will Not Sing Itself, Natsume probably did it once but never again.
takes the selfies: Wataru, he has to make scrapbooks its cute

2017.04.20 Satomi Hakkenden Review!
Tumblr media
I got a chance to finally see YamaKen (Yamazaki Kento) in this flesh a few weeks back! To be honest, I went into this stage with low expectations, for some reason my brain expects a lot less from TV actors who attempt the stage rather than from actual stage actors... doesn’t make sense right? Anyway lets get to it!
Officla Website here Official Twitter here News/Press Coverage 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8* Video Coverage 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6* Individual Character Interviews
*Unfortunately all the press coverage was focused on YamaKen only so there aren’t really any pics or videos of our boys.
NON-SPOILER REVIEW Overall: This was A LOT better than I was expecting!! I enjoyed this so much! Also it was very highly produced and everyone did an amazing job! I enjoyed the story, absolutely loved the fighting choreography and fighting scenes, the characters were all interesting, the CGI and project mapping was awesome, the stage was very well put together and used, the costumes were gorgeous, ensemble were troupers, basically I underestimated this stage completely and I really, really enjoyed myself! I even liked Wada Masanari’s acting and character which never happens to me! xD
BUT (not related to the play itself) holy moly the audience were so rude! It was clear most were YamaKen fans because they were (I quote them) ‘bored’ and constantly fidgeting or falling asleep whenever he wasn’t on stage and he has like the least amount on stage even though he’s the main actor. (Major rant under the spoiler section, just jump to the ‘LEARN SOME MANNERS’ section if you want to read about it in detail--no spoilers in that section btw)
Rating: 8/10

CAST and CHARACTERS
Yamazaki Kento as Inuzuka Shino Aoki Tsunenori as Inuyama Dousetsu Tamaki Yuki as Inukawa Sousuke Wada Masanari as Inutako Bungo Nishime Shun as Inue Shinbei Matsushima Shouta as Inusa Kakeno Arai Atsushi as Inukai Genpachi Maruyama Atsushi as Inumura Daikaku Aono Kaede as Hajime Kuriyama Wataru as Samo Jirou Matsuda Kenji as Chudai Houshi Higa Manami as Tamazusa / Fusehime Shundou Mitsutoshi as Satomi Yoshizane Yaotani Maoto as Fusahachi Kawashima Ririka as Mei Yokoyama Kazutoshi as Okushirou +Ensemble
This cast is HUGE as you can tell xD
PreShow:
I thought it was super strange that we didn’t get any chirashi flyers/leaflets or anketto survey (the amount of Japanese I use now when I speak English is ridiculous, sorry!). Also when I walked in there were cameras everywhere so I was super lucky to once again end up at a show where I could possibly be on the DVD or at least have seen that version! xD
I had a ticket with a tokuten special extra which ended up being the poster - if ANYONE wants it then it’s your for 800yen xD (not including P&P).
STORY
This stage is based off a fantasy epic that is 106 volumes long and written by Kyokutei Bakin. It’s main plot is about 8 half-brothers who are descendants of dogs (hence why they all have ‘inu’ meaning ‘dog’ in their names) who are brought together through balls of power in order to save a princess and stop an evil power from rising.
Unfortunately, I don’t think any of it has been translated in English.
SPOILERS BELOW
Full Story
The first half of the play is about each of the eight guys unleashing and learning they have this power and then start to find each other, either intentionally or by coincidence. They also learn about a power that has taken YamaKen and TamaChan’s childhood friend and love interest ‘Mei’ who has been resurrected and possessed and turned her bad, so they naturally want to save her.
The second half is when they finally band together and attempt to infiltrate the enemy’s castle and reach the queen before she unleashes a nasty power (I think a dragon) onto the world, as well as save Mei.
**Major spoiler: Unfortunately they’re all killed and dead by the end of it through the different stages of the caste and the different levels of protection each part/area had except Shino/YamaKen.

Cast and Character Breakdown
About halfway through the play, I started to giggle to myself as I realised just how many of them are Tokusatsu actors! Which casting directing is a Toku fan(?!) and got all these awesome guys together xD Seriously Aoki, Matsushima, Nashime, Kuriyama, Maruyama, Arai, Matsuda freaking Kenji(!), ALL Toku actors!! xD
Tumblr media
Yamazaki Kento as Inuzuka Shino
YamaKen’s voice surprised me. I don’t remember it ever being THAT low but when he first started talking, I couldn’t help but giggle because I thought he was putting it on! But as the show continued it became apparent that his voice is just that deep and I do not remember it ever being that deep >.<
YamaKen had a lot less stage time than I was anticipating, especially because he’s the main character and all(!), but at the same time I can understand why he had such little time on stage considering his main forte IS TV and Movies, and he doesn’t have as much stage experience as EVERYONE else on that damn stage xD (well except Nishime, I think this was his first stage outside of the Kamen Rider stage greetings and things.) *researches* Yeah YamaKen has only ever done the first run and then this run of Hakkenden ever, that’s his entire stage experience.
I think he did a very good job though! This is one of the few times of late where he’s really been able to prove he can actually act and not just ‘gets the job because of his face’ kind of thing. I’ve always believed he can act but as of late (as I said) he’s only being hired because he’s popular and because of his looks - come on, he practically mastered the whole Koukou Romance role about 8 movies ago(!)...
THIS stage right here is the kind of shit I want him to go back to! This is the kind of job I want him to take and shine in! I WANT him to do completely different stuff again like he did 6, 7 years ago! This is where he shines and proves his acting skills and he did great! I felt for his character, I really understood how he character was, he really showed his character’s personality perfectly. Also that outfit was so cool with the massive blood splatter across and everything! THIS IS THE YAMAKEN I REMEMBER AND LOVE! Y’all feel me on this right?! xD
Tumblr media
YamaKen slipped during one of the flight scenes but he very smoothly just rolled around and got himself straight back up ^_^
One scene I really enjoyed with YamaKen was when YamaKen and Matsushima met for the first time and Matsushima is in girl’s wear and is singing in a high voice and being all playful -- it was very pretty. In part two they meet again and this time because Matsushima’s in normal boys wear, YamaKen doesn’t realise at first who it is and Matsushima has to act a little for YamaKen to remember. In fact ALL the YamaKen x Matsushima scenes I really enjoyed!
YamaKen’s final scene was really great too! It was of course sad but seeing him trying to hold on to life and fight with everything he had and then all the 8 brothers coming together one last time was so cool! You could feel the pain YamaKen’s character was going through too!
OOOOHHH! And the almost kiss scene too!!! So the evil queen towards the end approaches YamaKen, thinking he’s given up on life and decided to take her side, she gets REAL close to him and almost kisses him and naturally he’s like ‘don’t be so stupid’ and strikes her! Such a sexy but good scene! I could hear YamaKen fans’ hearts break during that possible almost kiss scene but I just thought it was totally juicy xD
Main point: I am happy with his performance and this is what I want from him in the future! Please stop taking ‘only because of your face’ jobs.
Tumblr media
Aoki Tsunenori as Inuyama Dousetsu
My first two notes about him are literally: his hair us flawless. AND: Aoki is just flawless whatever. xD
Do I really need to say anymore? But I shall anyway!
Aoki is just impressive whatever he does and he always so flawlessly (okay three shots) adapts to any role he’s given. It was so easy to believe that his characters are real. His character in this was also very interesting.
Seeing his character start on the bad side and then slowly turn to the good side because of a misunderstanding and then ends up fighting his father (from my memory, I don’t think he learns til AFTER he’s given the final deadly strike that it’s his father) . And THEN the even bigger twist when his father has been resurrected and being controlled by the evil and therefore in order for everyone to get to the next stage of the castle, he has to fight and kill his father again and seeing his heartbreak this time around! Oh my poor heart....
I really liked his costume too, it was very monk-like, rustic and simple and I’m pretty sure he was barefoot and for the entire play - although I was a little concerned he’d get splinters or something... And that flawlessly beautifully long hair xD
I can’t really explain it well but something about how Aoki performs, it always feels so natural and real and flows very well and it’s like being sprinkled with fairydust. Whatever he does, it’s enchanting but also with the familiarity feel to it. Does anyone understand what I mean?!
Tumblr media
Tamaki Yuki as Inukawa Sousuke
TAMACHAN!!! <3 << I think I’m the only one who calls him this xD
I didn’t even need to see him, as soon as he spoke I recognised his voice straight away xD
Let’s get the opening out of the way first: I was a little annoyed and upset when Tamaki’s character was killed within the first 10 minutes or so of the stage! I was like “IS THAT ALL?! IS THAT ALL I’M GETTING OF MY BEAUTIFUL TOKIENTA?!” but luckily he’s resurrected pretty much straight away and given one of those balls of power and such. He got a lot more than just those 10 minutes on stage -- phew!!
Although I DID enjoy that the opening scene was YamaKen and TamaChan fighting. I also really liked the fact they were brothers. Their dynamic was very interesting. The brotherly love and hate between them too was great. I especially loved their last big scene together! It was heartbreaking but also awesome!
Tamaki’s fighting was so good! I really enjoyed seeing him fight and his choreography!
Tumblr media
Wada Masanari as Inutako Bungo
Wada Masanari still bores me. I just feel he’s been a bit too typecast and always get/plays the same type of character; unemotional, constant resting bitch face, very serious and focused on one mission and that was this character too.
HOWEVER, thinking back, one of his scenes does stand out to me still. His character has two younger siblings and unfortunately they get completely slaughtered and seeing Wada play an emotionally broken and heartbroken older brother as he picks up his dead little sister and just cries with his siblings in his arms, it really struck a cord with me, and for the first time I actually saw his character rather than thinking ‘oh look it’s Wada on stage’. It was a very emotional scene and definitely hit the feels.
I also like that he fought with axes too. Reminded me of Gimli from LOTR xD but we didn’t get to see enough of him being badass unlike the others.
*I apologise to Wada fans if I’ve hurt you with this opinion of him but I can’t help it.
**If you have any recommendations for where Wada’s acting really stands out then I’m open to suggestions and will watch them! ^_^
Tumblr media
Nishime Shun as Inue Shinbei
He is TOO adorable!! While Ghost was a trainwreck, I’ve always thought he was adorable and cute and it was great to see him finally shine and show us what he can do (lets not mention Ghost again shall we) and this was his first major work after Ghost too I think - I don’t know how big his roles were in the two doramas he did.
I really, really loved his character! FIRST(!) his costume is absolutely adorable and beautiful and it was my favourite out of all the costumes.
Tumblr media
He was very playful and one of those characters who only showed up when it was completely necessary so he was playing a much mature character than (possibly) himself.
As previously mentioned, his role is small BUT I think it left a HUGE impression on everyone including myself.
I have a note that says: his entrance was so cool and so good! It was towards the end of part one when YamaKen and co were surrounded and being beaten and Nishime just jumps in to save them all ^_^ He was being so smug that he could fight everyone so easily.
But his death was heartbreaking! He got slashed to crap and was just constantly saying ‘痛くないよ・It doesn’t even hurt. It doesn’t hurt.’ and then he dies.... our poor baby! =‘[
Tumblr media
Matsushima Shouta as Inusa Kakeno
I really liked his entrance! His entrance was him coming out of the right side doors in girls clothing and did this beautiful dance while singing in a very high voice, that strangely worked and his voice did not break. It sounded and looked really good, but also kinda laughable because of how well he pulled it all off! I am all for seeing Matsushima like this! He always does unique characters, just like his character in Drive xD Then his character, in the same scene, proceeds to steal YamaKen’s sword and then hides in the shadows with it as YamaKen is left in a situation where he might need to fight.
But then in part two he’s in normal warrior wear (which confuses YamaKen’s character xD) and turns out he’s this badass archery militant guy!
Unfortunately he too didn’t get nearly as much stage time as he deserved. On top of that, he was the ONLY one who had an off stage battle which really annoyed me! We see him on stage going ‘okay I’ll hold the entrance with my archers’ and then the next scene he’s in, he comes on stage covered in arrows and dies... we saw EVERYONE else’s last battle and death but we didn’t see his and that annoyed me somewhat.
Matsushima’s character is a very playful character and has this slightly dark streak to him, it’s a good character. They’re ALL good characters okay! xD
Tumblr media
Arai Atsushi as Inukai Genpachi
Arai fans are going to hate me. He just doesn’t enter my conscious line of sight ever! I’ve seen him on stage at least three times (Yuhiden, Judo Shounen and this) and each time, I can’t even tell you what he did or who he was. I just don’t get or notice any presence from him at all. He’s just forgettable for me.
BUT I do remember he has a scene with Wada’s little sister who puts a flower in his hair and he keeps it in the entire time; that’s a cute moment. I’d say his character is pretty much the same as his Yuhiden character but don’t take my word on that. But other than that, I do not remember him in this. Sorry Arai fans!
Tumblr media
Maruyama Atsushi as Inumura Daikaku
We got ourselves an Okita Souj here: he coughs up blood for most of the show and is a very weak guy because of his illness and because he’s dying. BUT he’s totally sweet as he spends his time tending to the sick and looking after them <3 Maruyama keeps getting these types of role recently. Sorry that’s all I have to say about him....
Tumblr media
Aono Kaede as Hajime
She was great! I loved how she first played this cute innocent girl and then as soon as she’s resurrected and taken to the dark side (haha SW reference) she gets badass and sexy. Even in one scene, she strips while talking to YamaKen as she reveals to him that she’s not the Hajime he knows anymore. Also she has an onstage kiss with Higa Manami in the beginning, which is how Higa’s character possess and takes control of her, to which I was like ‘OH YEAH!’ - my brain is a pervy weird thing okay.
I LOVED her outfit in part two! It was sexy and like black leather and she did a great time with the fighting scenes. Although her choreography was a LOT slower compared to the boys; it might’ve been the actress’ own lack of stamina and strength, but it was noticeable how much of a slower pace her fight scenes were BUT I still enjoyed them. She fought like a badass xD
Tumblr media
I understand that some people might be annoyed and think ‘oh this is sexism! and misogyny, and of course they make the girl strip and act sexy and wear scanty clothing’ etc. BUT I personally do not mind it at all - boys or girls - and I enjoyed it okay. As long as they’re a badass and a good character which she definitely was! BUT I understand why some people might see this negatively.
Tumblr media
Kuriyama Wataru as Samo Jirou
Kuriyama, just like Aoki, had hair that was absolutely fabulous! It was so fluffy and nice(!) and long too! They both suited it, although it didn’t look much different to what Aoki usually has xD it was especially fabulous when they fought and it swished around and everything xD
Kuriyama was part of the bad guy side (and so was Aoki originally) so you saw him pop up in random places trying to fight the other guys. I feel it was a safe character for him to play; there was nothing majorly challenging for him I don’t think... it was a simple enough character for him to do and he did it while looking fabulous!
Unfortunately I do not remember what happened to him in the end but he too died xD I think he was ontop of a rock and him and his rival (Aoki?) killed each other at the same time. But don’t take my word for that.
Tumblr media
Matsuda Kenji as Chudai Houshi
I did not realise until AFTER the play that it was Matsuda freaking Kenji on stage! No wonder he looked so familiar! And no wonder I enjoyed his performance! He’s a freaking badass in ALL the Toku’s he does, and I always love his characters! I wish I’d realised and known before I watched this because then I would’ve been more pumped about him and his character and would’ve spent more time on him. BUT having said that I really enjoyed his character anyway! I love how he comes in and seems mysterious and helps guide all the boys and explains what happened in the past and then to be confronted by his son and to fight his son to the death. And THEN for him to be resurrected and possessed and turned evil,!! That really broke our hearts to see Aoki having to fight his father again =[ and the way Aoki laid his father to rest the first time around too! <3 So even without knowing who it was at the time, I still ended up enjoying his performance and character which shows he’s a damn fine actor -- they all are!! xD
Higa Manami as Tamazusa / Fusehime
I don’t have much to say but I really enjoyed her performance as she got more dragon-like and more deranged and more cracked and less human. Also, she looked fabulous. All her evilness was great! I especially love that final scene with her and YamaKen <3 when she was so close to kissing him and bringing him to the dark side but BAM he’s like ‘you think I’m that stupid?’ and attacks! It’s so good! I loved her entrance too where she’s brought in by humans carrying her on a palanquin; I was super impressed that they had no problems or accidents as they carried her on stage, lower her, relifted it up with her on and carried her off stage xD
Yaotani Maoto as Fusahachi and Kawashima Ririka as Mei
These two had a short time on stage but they were adorable! They played two roles! They technically open and close the entire stage as young YamaKen/Shino and Aono/Hajime planting a tree <3 They also play Wada’s younger siblings. They did a great job in the short time they had ^_^
The Ensemble were great and there were a lot of them and they had a lot of work to do. They were also good at covering the flaws and such of the others, or picking up items or clothing that accidentally came out and stuff xD
And I think I’ve finally finished me segment on the actors! Phew! That only took like 4 days >.<
AESTHETICS
For some reason in my notes here, I have: These seats = NOT comfortable. But I don’t remember this at all >.< oh well! But apparently Bunkyo Shibik Hall does not have comfortable chairs xD so there’s your future reference! ^_^
The stage was amazing. They had these huge lumps of set pieces that so smoothly moved around the stage and everything and they looked very well built and were impressive! Especially when ensemble would move the set pieces around AS the actors fought ontop of them! That was super cool ^_^
The lighting and project mapping was really cool too! I like how they had this little cardboard circle that would come down and they’d use PM on that to show the power balls and the dragons eye and such! Also towards the end when the dragon’s egg was cracking open and they used the stairs to show the cracking which was awesome!
The fighting and choreography...need I saw more about this? It was so amazing and I enjoyed all the fight scenes and everyone was badass and did a great job! It’s detailed more below but due to the audience being so rude, I couldn’t get completely into it which is a shame because I wanted to be completely into the fighting and the sad scenes. But seriously, they were all fighting in such a badass way and the choreography is amazing!
LEARN SOME MANNERS
And now for me to get my rant out...
Seriously the audience! They were the rudest I’ve ever experienced! It was clear that 80-90% of the crowd were YamaKen fans because that’s all they had him as their phone wallpapers xD BUT you could also tell most probably had never been to the theatre before, nor were part of the ‘Katana Girl’ group (which is where the problem mainly comes from) because holy moly they were rude as hell(!) YamaKen seriously has the shortest amount of time on stage even though he’s the main character and whenever he wasn’t on stage, pretty much everyone around me was either fidgetting or fall sleeping or being like ‘this is boring’ -_- it was a freaking amazing play if you actually went for the whole cast and the story and everything(!!!) ugh they seriously made me angry. One girl was completely out of it by about 30minutes into the first half, during the intermission she went and never came back...I kinda wish the rest of them had done that. Ugh seriously, I’ve never been surrounded by such a poorly behaved audience in my life and it made me feel bad for the other actors. So I made sure I clapped EXTRA high and hard for everyone EXCEPT YamaKen.
Don’t get me wrong, I love YamaKen, I’ve been following that boys career since he was 16 years old but now he’s too mainstream in that the (Japanese) fans are so ridiculous now that I just don’t want to support him. Can we go back to YamaKen when he had more free range to do none mainstream stuff like hackers and hikikomoris?! *cries*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seeing him get and do THIS role was a godsend because it was finally something different and something that I feel suits him much more than what he’s done recently, but he’s so over-popularised and over-saturated right now that I can’t watch most of his recent stuff because it’s ALL the same. And the damn fans too these days... anyway...
I saw one girl with a KuroMyu bag which meant that she was a Tamaki fan and that made me happy BUT made me realise that we stage actor fans were the ridiculous minority, which shouldn’t be happening when you have actors like TamaChan, Aoki and Wada on the same effing stage! I felt SO bad for the other actors thanks to 90% of the audience being complete dicks. I mean it was expected and I did expect some YamaKen bias ridiculousness but I definitely wasn’t expecting the audience attitude to be that rude and inconsiderate.
Another friend of mine also went to this stage (for Wada) and without me even mentioning my opinion or anything, she ALSO mentioned how rude the audience was and how YamaKen bias it was, and that she also heard people go ‘oh this is so boring’, like seriously which play were you watching?!?!?! because it was VERY good!!! e and my friend loved it! But then again we always go to the theatre and we also watch these kind of things.
Unfortunately due to the poorly mannered audience, I couldn’t get completely into the stage, and I so desperately wanted to cry during the second half of the play because it’s just heartbreak everywhere! However, due to all those distractions, I just couldn’t. =[ I’ll wait until the DVD to cry my heart out properly to these actors and characters.
Ugh...rage and rant over.
GOODS
The pamphlet pics are super nice! But I found it strange that they weren’t doing bromide sets. I would’ve liked pretty much bromide sets of everyone, BUT then again it would’ve meant I spent more money which is probably for the best that they didn’t have any xD but yes it was strange for them not to have bromides but I guess the production is above that of 2.5 even though they hired Tokusatsu actors galore xD
---
And that is my long-ass review! I cannot believe I’ve spent a good week writing this.... but it’s finally done! now I’m one less review down! Hopefully the others will come out quicker xD
Hope you enjoyed!! ^_^

We Kiss The Dusk Goodnight
this is an A/B/O au fanfic
because I have a Problem, here it the abo/omegaverse fic literally no one asked for but I’m in too deep now to stop. I really don’t know where this came from okay. JUST TAKE IT. and don’t kick me out of the fandom pls
warnings for language, some implied sexual content, and age gap. and actual smut eventually. I’M GETTING THERE OKAY.
We Kiss The Dusk Goodnight (Bulge/Bruce/Manabu)
The next morning, over a third cup of coffee, Bruce delivered an ultimatum.
“We have to figure out who the hell it is,” he muttered into a mug, “Before they send half the station into a rut.”
Or, the omegaverse AU no one asked for.
you can also read the first chapter here on AO3!
He knew from the moment that Bruce slammed into him in the dark hallway that something was different. It wasn’t as though their relationship was new, or that meeting like this for a tryst was uncommon, but there was something heavier in the air between them. But what it was escaped Bulge, and it became harder to focus once he had a handful of Bruce’s hair and a mouthful of tongue. Trying to think about what may have changed took a backseat to getting their clothes on the floor of his quarters, and was suddenly irrelevant when Bruce started snarling possessively at him. Pack dynamics be damned; fucking with another alpha was an experience that never ceased to deliver. Or maybe he was just getting old, and any little thing would seem extra thrilling now.
"Come on,“ was the near desperate whine as Bulge fumbled with the lube, "It’s been too fuckin’ long.”
He never would have described Bruce as wanton. Pushy, yes. A little needy, maybe, once in a while when some kid off their suppressants happened to walk by headquarters. Able to act downright devious when the mood struck him. And yet he’d never quiet seen him like this, bucking back, giving in, but also making Bulge work for every inch. And you know, he found he liked it. Gender and sexuality historians already had a field day with the SDF and the tight knit platoons that were both packs and most certainly not packs– they would have loved to have a look at a captain and his first officer falling in like this.
It wasn’t as though relationships of, ah, mutual benefits, didn’t happen. But those were usually throw away things, one night stands or scheduled with heat cycles, with attraction but not necessarily affection. Not the unwavering loyalty and connections that being soldiers-in-arms created. The SDF turned a blind eye to most incidents like this, as the higher ups (and by extension, the enigmatic supreme commander) didn’t care what they did as long as they got their jobs done. Ironic that a military organization had some of the most lax and open views on matters.
"Damn,“ he swore, every sense on high alert, "Someone must be presenting.”
"Fucking cadets,“ Bruce growled, his nails digging into Bulge’s shoulders, "They let them in way too young.”
It’s an empty complaint, because the age and timing of presenting could never really be guaranteed. Every time science and society thought they had it figured out, a new batch of outliners skewed the data again, proving that biology and evolution did whatever they damn well pleased. And that people don’t always like to fit into the molds the world set out for them. Strict roles were all but obsolete in this day and age, relics of times long past, even if some conventions died hard. Like the fact that most of those who ended up in combat units just happened to be alphas. Betas were most common after that, with omegas and the rest of the spectrum coming in last.
The next morning, over a third cup of coffee, Bruce delivered an ultimatum.
"We have to figure out who the hell it is,“ he muttered into a mug, "Before they send half the station into a rut.”
Bulge agreed wholeheartedly, because the wheel universe stopped for no one, bodies going haywire or otherwise. “They may not even realize what’s happening.”
"Fucking kids.“ Bruce repeated his sentiment from the night before. Bulge couldn’t admonish him, not when he knew it actually came from a place of concern. Someone could get hurt while in the wild throws of base desires. Scuffles might break out between unbonded parties, causing a headache for all involved and a HR nightmare. Most people could exercise discretion. Most, but not all. Bulge ran a hand over his face.
It was going to be a long day.
One long day turned into another, and then another, and they still couldn’t figure out who was running headlong into heat. Being in such close proximity to so many people meant that most went scent blind, and the prevalent use of suppressants dampened pheromones in general. Bulge hoped it was just someone who had missed a dose or two, or maybe some visiting family member, but something told him that it wouldn’t be that simple. If only for the fact that it came and went with such regularity that it had to be someone on SDF shifts. But without invading each person’s personal boundaries, it was impossible to pinpoint who. Performance in the Sirius platoon was already suffering; it was hard enough to rein his own short temper in, much less keeping Bruce in line and Manabu from butting heads with him. Louis was pointedly uninterested in the whole affair, and David did his best to diffuse situations, but everyone was on edge.
"No, the other console Yūki, get it together–”
"I have it together!“ Manabu snapped back, "Stop distracting me!”
"Stop it, both of you,“ It honestly felt more like babysitting than leading a platoon through drills, "Get a hold of yourselves.”
Bruce huffed and Manabu went back to sulking, even brushing off Louis’ reassurances. The sooner they found whoever was the source of this, the better. For all of their sakes.
"That’s enough for today.“ He sighed, even though it was early for them to be stopping. There was no point in continuing however when everyone was so wound up; He swore he caught David murmuring a prayer of thanks. At this rate, it was Sirius that would be having the first casualties, especially with the way Bruce kept fixating on Manabu-
Oh lord. Manabu.
If there were any merciful deities left in the cosmos, then please let him be wrong. Please don’t let it be the wide eyed and enthusiastic son of Wataru, too fresh and young and inexperienced to be dealing with such matters.
Bulge had always assumed Manabu was an alpha, like the rest of them. Like his father and brother before him. It would have made perfect sense from multiple standpoints, and regardless, he might be reckless and naive, but he wasn’t stupid. Not stupid enough to go off medications in an environment like this.
     "Manabu, a moment.”
"What?“ Came the annoyed reply, though he quickly corrected himself, "What is it, captain?”
There was no easy way to start this conversation, especially with Bruce giving them a sideways glance as the rest of Sirius platoon disembarked. Sometimes his first mate did have some tact and stayed silent, leaving Bulge alone with a nervously fidgeting Manabu.
"Manabu,“ he began anew, "I need you to be completely honest with me.”
     "About what?“
     "Tell me you’re on suppressants.”
Manabu went bright red, hands curled at his sides as though he was resisting the urge to cover his face. “W-who told you?”
"No one. Everyone on the base can smell you, Manabu. You have been taking them, haven’t you?“
At that he did cover his face and sink into the nearest chair. Bulge felt a protective urge swell up in him, caught somewhere between concerned captain and alpha instincts.
     "Manabu, it’s alright-”
"But it’s not,“ he sounded so utterly miserable, "It’s not okay and I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
"Nothing is wrong with you.“ Frankly, Bulge was alarmed that he would think there was. Who on earth had lead him to believe that? Then he remembered Tabito, the tiny mining planet, full of nice people. Traditional people. Stubborn people. God damn it to hell. "Manabu, look at me.”
It took several long minutes, but finally those brown eyes peeked out from behind his fingers. He looked so small in that moment, so unsure and shaken. Bulge wanted to reach out to him but knew it was a dangerous idea. Even a simple touch could have catastrophic results.
"There’s nothing wrong with you,“ he repeated instead, "It’s normal.”
"But I’ve been on the stupid pills for forever!“
     "Sometimes they stop working.”
"Are you serious,“ Manabu groaned, "Oh my god, just kill me. Better yet, let Bruce kill me. That’ll make him happy.”
If only he knew about the way the first officer sometimes looked at him. Because of course Bulge noticed, and couldn’t fault him for it when the traitorous thoughts had passed through his own mind. But this was Manabu, fierce and compassionate and utterly oblivious. “Can you, ah, take care of it on your own? Or should I find someone to help?”
Manabu returned to being covered in flush and made a strangled sound. What he would have given in that moment to have Wataru back, just for this awkward conversation. Bulge wasn’t cut out for family life, much less pack duties, an certainly not prepared to give a pep talk on someone’s first heat.
“I can do it, I’ll be fine,” And then softer, “Probably.”
"You’ve got to be kidding me.“
"Bruce,” he grumbled back, “Give him a break. It’s not his fault.”
"I know it’s not.“ And yet his first officer was pacing in the break room, agitated and probably ready to pick a fight with the next man who looked at him wrong. Which is exactly why Bulge had decided it was better to stick close to him. "Of all the people, why did it have to be him?”
Fate was a cruel thing like that. It didn’t much care for the wants and needs of the individuals subject to it’s whims. Yet he couldn’t have agreed more.
"It’ll be fine.“ He said, even though he was unconvinced of that. Manabu had said he would be okay, but the young man’s track record on things was less than stellar. Just how many times had he disobeyed a direct order or accidentally gotten himself into trouble? ”…probably.“
     "This is insane.”
"There’s not much we can do about it, save removing him from active duty.“
     "Have you?”
"Yes,“ he nodded, "I’ve put in for the whole platoon, actually.”
That stopped Bruce, who looked back at him in confusion. “Why?”
"Because none of us are in any state to fight.“ And, he doesn’t say, there was no way he would be leaving Manabu alone at the base. Not a chance in hell.
"Stupid kid.” Bruce said without heat. He was worried. He’d never admit it, especially not to Manabu himself, but Bruce worries after him. Sure, he shrouded it in snark and biting words, kept him at arms length to spare himself any future pain. But he did care. Just in a roundabout way.
He felt the unease acutely. The outdated, nagging animal part of his subconscious wanted him to go out and fawn over the omega, stay close, so close, to him and make sure he was alright. Which was unnecessary, and oppressive; Manabu was his own person. And, he could only hope, not too proud to ask for help if he needed it. Then again, he was notoriously stubborn.
Maggie from Spica poked her head into the room. “Excuse me sir, but there’s a… situation.”
Bulge felt his stomach hit the floor and keep going. It hadn’t even been more than a few hours. Bruce swore, and had dashed out the door before he could move.
"I’m going to kill him,“ Bruce spat once Bulge had caught up with him, "And then he’ll never be a pain in my ass ever again.”
If the spike in pheromones was distracting before, now it was downright overwhelming. Sticky sweet and alluring, enough to make his teeth itch. Tinged with a hint of panic and desperation. He remembered Manabu’s panic attack from one of their first missions, remembered the way that he could crumble so easily under too much stress, even if he came back from each fall that much stronger. He was alone somewhere in these halls, lost and scared, and Schwanhelt Bulge was going to find him.
It took every measure of restraint he had in his being to not rush the members of Vega platoon and then to keep Bruce from doing the same. They were all in a circle, ringing a huddled mass in front of the vending machines, who he could see shaking from ten paces back. Bulge gathered up what little calm he could before speaking.
"Murase,“ he began evenly, "What is going on here?”
The leader of Vega turned his scarred face to them, lips curled in a snarl. “You haven’t kept your pup on a tight enough leash.”
If he was seeing red, then Bruce had to be absolutely livid. Bulge didn’t normally buy into the stereotypes of alphas beings hot-headed and temperamental, but there was no denying the tension crackling between the two groups of men. Vega actually had less alphas than Sirius, but that didn’t stop their two betas from being just as aggressive as their peers. He could appreciate the no nonsense, tough as nails approach to their platoon; what he didn’t appreciate was them hassling one of Sirius’ youngest members. Especially one who at the moment was so vulnerable.
"Why do you keep this whelp around, anyway?“ Murase grabbed Manabu’s arm in an attempt to haul him upright, "He’s fuckin’ useless-”
"Unhand him.“ Bulge growled, enough alpha tone sneaking in to make even Bruce flinch beside him, "This is none of your damn business.”
He sneered, but let go of Manabu, who crumpled onto the floor once more. In an instant Bruce was between the Vega men and him, radiating an aura of bloodlust. Bulge had no doubt it would come to blows if the veteran SDF members didn’t back down. Yet after several agonizing minutes, they did just that, with Murase shaking his head as he lead them away.
"You should keep a better eye on that pup.“ Was Murase’s parting shot, and Bulge stared them all down until they had gone round a corner, then out of sight. A soft whimper brought him back to the moment.
"Good god,” He crouched beside Manabu, who was still curled in upon himself, shuddering all the while, “Manabu?”
His head shot up, brown hair tousled, eyes wide with naked fear. Bulge’s reaction was automatic, as he reached forward and gathered the smaller man into his arms, where he clung to Bulge like a lifeline. He was nearly soaked though with sweat and it was hard to tell if his trembling was from being cornered by Vega platoon or something else entirely. Manabu let out a soft sob.
"I’m s-sorry, I’m sorry,“ he hiccuped over and over again, hands wound tight into the fabric of Bulge’s coat, "I’m s-so sorry, I’m-”
It was pure torture, being wrapped up in him like that, when he smelled so enticing and his skin felt so hot. Yet it was alarming, because Manabu’s distress became his own, putting his mind into danger mode. It was so confusing too, to have to choose between the feeling of wanting to bundle him up and keep him safe, or throw pretenses out the window and fuck him silly right there.
No, the second one was most certainly not an option, not without Manabu’s explicit consent. The idea that Bulge had even considered it for a moment was insane. But as Bruce had said, this whole situation was insane.
"It’s alright, I’ve got you,“ were the words he managed to get out while his heart tried to hammer it’s way through his chest, "You don’t have anything to apologize for.”
No, it was Bulge that should be apologizing. He should have never left Manabu unprotected. So what if they weren’t a real pack; he was still the ranking officer, the highest alpha in their group. He had a duty to them all to keep them safe and cared for. It didn’t matter if it was on the battlefield or not.
"Captain,“ Bruce hissed, "What should we do?”
A good question. A very valid question. “Go to his room and get all of his bedding, then meet me at my quarters.”
Bruce took off without any further prompting, leaving him with a wreck of an omega to somehow get back to his own room. Bulge shifted Manabu so he could cradle him bridal style, and tried not to think about how sore he was going to be afterwords. Manabu may have been shorter and slighter than his father and brother, and done growing at just past twenty, but he was heavier than he looked. Especially when he became dead weight in Bulge’s arms. The only thing working in his favor was the death grip Manabu had on his shoulders.
"I’ve got you.“ He said again, knowing that repetition of reassurances was one of the few comforts he could give at this point. Manabu stayed deathly quiet.
His captain’s quarters would be the safest place for the boy at the moment. It had extra security measures, was further away from the general dorming area, and most importantly, had space to breath. Not that the accommodations for regular officers were lacking, but there was extra square footage came along with his captain’s bars. It wasn’t a luxury Bulge often got to take advantage of, considering how often they were off world or completing missions, but he was glad for it. Now they just had to get there.
More than one head turned when he stormed down the halls with Manabu in hand, but none of them had enough of a death wish to stop him or ask questions. There was no use trying to hide what was happening; anyone with eyes and a nose could tell. Besides, sudden heats or failed suppressants were bound to happen from time to time, and only the most petty or immature would hold it against someone. He made a mental note to ask Yuki later if she could find a different medication, or some other resources for Manabu. Certainly her expansive medical database would have something that could help. In the meantime, Bulge was resigned to his fate as a stand-in pack leader.
     "What were you doing outside of your room?” He wondered aloud, not expecting the silent and shivering Manabu to answer. But after a sharp intake of breath, he did;
"I just wanted a drink,“ Manabu mumbled into his neck, "I’m sorry.”
"It’s alright,“ he tried to think of something, anything other than the hot body pressed against him, "I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
A heady, impulsive promise, but it felt right. It felt like proverbial stars aligning and Fate taking the helm, and he let it happen. Consequences could wait until a later date, maybe when they were all more clear headed and fully aware of the repercussions. But not right now. Manabu let out a soft sound and buried his head into his shoulder.
Finally they made it to his door, where an agitated Bruce carrying sheets and blankets was already waiting. He knew the code to get in, Bulge had shared it with him years ago, but it seemed he still waited for permission even after all this time. A nice gesture, but unnecessary given their history. (Yet, this was also not the only hangup Bruce had, his relationship with relationships being rocky at best. Bulge had been there for most of them and knew it was hard to come out unscathed, and not to mention his own lovers lost.) Still Bruce was the one to punch the password in, and the first to enter, heading straight for the bed as he’d already figured out the plan. Bulge’s bed wasn’t terribly large, but it still dwarfed the tiny bunks given to new recruits, and therefore was perfect for nesting. Even if Manabu didn’t understand it completely, having a place to nest would undoubtedly help. He tried not to think about the implications of having an omega in heat in his bed, even if their options were limited. Destiny Station might have protected heat rooms, he wasn’t sure, and in any case he felt better by having Manabu where he could keep an eye on him.
“You have to let go, Manabu,” Bulge sighed to him when he continued to cling tight, “You’ll be safe here.”
“Don’t want to,” Manabu murmured back, “You smell nice.”
“Nope, that’s it,” Bruce said through gritted teeth, beginning to physically pry Manabu off of him, “You’re not allowed to make more of a fool of yourself than you already have.”
Manabu made little unhappy sounds, but they got him onto the bed. His eyes were glassy, pupils blown wide, sweat sticking stray hairs to his face. Bulge had heard that the worst part of being an omega was the loss of autonomy— of becoming a slave to whim and instinct, left in a state that they were often taken advantage of in days of old. (And, as much he loathed to admit it, it still happened on backwater planets where society liked to backslid into unconscionable habits.) The amount of power he could wield over Manabu right then was ridiculous; and worst of all Manabu would let him do whatever he wanted. Whatever either of them wanted, actually.
Which was why Bulge was focusing on getting Manabu’s boots and coat off before hiding him under the sheets. Then he was going to take a bath in a tub of ice and try not to die.
"Would you hold still?“ Bruce snapped at the younger officer, who was being very wiggly, trying to snuggle up to Bruce while he peeled off his SDF jacket, "Are they always like this?”
"Yes,“ Bulge replied a little too quickly, remembering Catalina and the one time his off duty night happened to coincidence with her heat cycle, "Don’t be too hard on him. He doesn’t realize what he’s doing.”
At least the abject terror that had engulfed Manabu before was gone. Small things to be thankful for in a trying time. Fear was now being overtaken by desire, filling the room with heavy want, and he needed to get out before he went mad from it all.
"I’m going to go get Yuki.“
"But I’m fine now!” Manabu protested, and Bruce threw a blanket over him so that his next round of complaints were muffled.
"Stay with him, I’ll be right back.“
Bruce sighed as he pushed more bedding on top of Manabu. "Yes, sir.”
